In this lesson you have learned to compose a piece of music using standard music notation.

05.04 Assignment Instructions

The assessment for lesson 05.04 is a music composition project. You will submit your own original music composition for guitar using standard music notation. Your grade will be based on the following guidelines (not on creativity).

  • Your composition should have eight measures of music.
  • Your composition should have a 4/4 time signature (written to the right of the first treble clef).
  • Each measure of music should use exactly four beats.
  • Your composition should use each of the following notes at least once.

  • Begin and end your composition with the open third string G.
  • Use each note value you have learned at least once (quarter note, half note, dotted half note, whole note).
  • Make sure to include a title and give yourself composer credit.
