Continuing Education PPT: Definition, Importance and Implementation

Continuing Education PPT: Definition, Importance and Implementation Free Download: Continuing education (just like similarly education withinside the United Kingdom and Ireland) is an all-encompassing time period inside a vast listing of post-secondary gaining knowledge of sports and programs. The time period is used particularly withinside the United States and Canada.

Recognized styles of post-secondary gaining knowledge of sports in the area include: diploma credit score guides with the aid of using non-conventional students, non-diploma profession training, university remediation, team of workers training, and formal private enrichment guides (each on-campus and online). General persevering with training is just like person training, as a minimum in being meant for person learners, particularly the ones past conventional undergraduate university or college age.

Build more impactful Powerpoint presentations

In today's professional landscape, PowerPoint presentations can be effective platforms for sharing information and garnering audience interest and support. At the same time, a poorly designed PowerPoint slideshow can quickly turn an audience away. By focusing on how to apply basic design principles to slideshow creation, this course will help learners use Microsoft's PowerPoint 365 software to build visually engaging slideshow presentations. Learners will consider how to select images and photographs for use in slides, the importance of arrangement and placement of images, the use of tools like Shapes and SmartArt, methods for presenting data, and the selection of colors and fonts that increase the readability of content.

Students have 90 days from the day they are granted access to complete this course. Please note: Access to this course will be granted as soon as possible but may take up to 1 business day

CME Presentation Tips

Use these Essentia Health Continuing Medical Education Presentation Tips based on education and communication best practices and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ requirements to plan and facilitate effective presentations.

Know Your Audience

Who are they? Why are they here? What keeps them up at night? How can you help solve their problem? What do you want them to do differently after your presentation?

“They didn’t come to your presentation to see you. They came to find out what you can do for them. Success means giving them a reason for taking their time, providing content that resonates, and ensuring it’s clear what they are to do.” - Nancy Duarte

Presentation Recommendations

  • Start the presentation by engaging learners with a story about your experience(s) with the topic, sharing a specific case, relaying interesting statistics, or asking a question to get them thinking about their own experiences. Adults learn best when convinced of the need for knowing the information.
  • Inform learners of objectives. Include the learning objectives on a slide at the beginning of the presentation. Tell learners what they will know or be able to do with the knowledge acquired during the presentation.
  • Present the content, including examples. Adults will learn more effectively when new knowledge, skills, attitudes and values are presented in the context of their application to real life situations. Lectures should be relevant to what learners need to cope with in their daily practice. Use the Session Planning Form to plan the content of the presentation.
  • Summarize the main points of the presentation. This is your “take home message” for learners. In addition, asking your learners to do something with the information will help them retain it longer.

Presentation Slides - Formatting Basics

Background color.

A white or light-colored slide background with black or dark-colored text is recommended due to the nature of the majority of our meeting rooms. A simple background is best! Use a consistent background throughout the presentation.

Use easy to read font like Arial or Calibri. Use consistent size font throughout the presentation. 32+ point font for titles, 24+ point font for text, and 12+ point fonts for citations.

Words per Slide

Remember that PowerPoint is a presentation, not documentation. Text is a reference that should include essential facts and information. Too much text on a slide detracts from the spoken message since it is difficult to listen, read and understand at the same time.

Use copyright-free pictures, graphics, images, videos as well as charts, graphs or other visual displays of data. Include a caption that states the importance of the graphic.

Essentia Health employees can utilize ClinicalKey, Clinical Key for Nursing, UpToDate, and VisualDx, all available on the Library Services home page from The Source.

Cite author, source and date on every slide where a quote, practice recommendation, data, table or image is used that was not created by you. If the material is copyrighted, you will need to secure permission to use it prior to your presentation.

List all citations in a final reference slide, with full reference information: author(s), date, title, source, publisher, volume, and page number.

Commercial Bias and Trade Names

Presentations must comply with Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) requirements for ensuring independence in CME activities. A commercial interest is defined as any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on patients. The ACCME does not consider providers of clinical service directly to patients to be commercial interests - unless the provider of clinical service is owned, or controlled by, an ACCME-defined commercial interest.

  • Content must promote improvements or quality in healthcare, not a specific product or commercial interest.
  • No advertisements, product promotion, corporate logo, trade name or product-group message of an ACCME-defined commercial interest.
  • Use generic names instead of trade names. If trade names are used, the presentation must include trade names from multiple companies, to create a balanced view.

Strategies for Increasing Learner Engagement

  • Keep your audience engaged by asking questions throughout the presentation. An audience response system is available in some locations.
  • Engage the remote audience participating via video-conference.
  • Handouts can be printed if you have important information to share that is difficult to depict on a slide.

If you have any questions or need assistance with presentation development/formatting, contact the CME Office at 218.786.4764 or [email protected]

Let’s Talk: Diet, Physical Activity and Cancer Survivorship

An interactive training simulation from the American Cancer Society for primary health care providers.

This simulation provides a safe and responsive learning environment for providers to practice effective communication techniques for discussing nutrition, physical activity, and obesity risk with cancer survivors. This training will allow providers to be more confident in engaging in these conversations, and in recommending strategies and techniques for maintaining a healthy weight and being active.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based clinical method for identifying and building motivation to make healthy choices and engage in healthy behaviors. MI skills help clinicians to: build healthy relationships, explore patients’ needs, values and preferences, respond with empathy, personalize and share information, collaborate on decisions, and empower patients to achieve their goals.

The simulation allows learners to enter a virtual environment and engage in role-play conversations with emotionally-responsive virtual humans. Through practice and receiving personalized feedback, users learn and assess their competency to lead similar conversations in real life.

Developing Caregiver Clinical Services: A Toolkit for Cancer Centers and Staff

Cancer caregiving can be intense and episodic, resulting in high levels of psychosocial distress. As a critical part of the health care team, caregivers deserve support that targets their emotional and mental health needs.

The primary focus of the Caregivers Clinic is to provide counseling from psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners to help caregivers navigate and cope with the complexities of providing care while also managing their own emotions. To this end, we have developed a toolkit to manualize the process of establishing a Caregivers Clinic.

The Caregivers Clinic Toolkit is a comprehensive set of tools and resources that oncology leaders, clinicians, and staff members can use to implement psychosocial services for family caregivers. It also addresses key areas of clinic development, including referral sources and triage processes, billing codes, and staffing.

CE Accountability • Educational accountability targets either the processes or results of education. • Desired goals are identified • Measures are identified for determining whether the goals are met • Criteria are defined to determine when measures demonstrate that goals have or have not been met

CE Accountability • Types of Accountability • System – educational system responsibilities for student results • Example: • Goal - increases in performance in state tests (i.e. BLET) for groups of students • Measurement – administration of BLET test • Criteria – benchmark of pass performance (i.e. 75%) • Rewards/sanctions – ability to maintain program, attract students

CE Accountability • Types of Accountability • Process – compliance with laws and regulations • Example: • Goal – applied CE fee waiver rules appropriately • Measurement – completion of internal audit (checklist) that identifies the requirements • Criteria – number of elements within internal audit checked • Rewards/sanctions – audit exceptions, financial penalties

CE Accountability • Types of Accountability • Individual – student, faculty and staff responsibility for student achievement • Example • Goal – student must pass a credential test to successfully exit course • Measurement – credential test covering relevant topics • Criteria – required passing score on test • Rewards/sanctions – access to credential

CE Accountability • Where is Continuing Education today? 1D SBCC 300.96 (c) – Continuing Education Program Management • Each college's local board of trustees must adopt a policy which requires the development and implementation of an internal audit plan. • Each college is required to publish, maintain and utilize an internal audit plan. • The college presidents shall periodically report to the board of trustees on the findings of the internal audit. • The internal plan must be submitted to the Department for compliance review.
