Short and Long Essays on Save Tiger

Tiger is the most charismatic and ferocious wild cat and the national animal of India.  Tiger symbolises India’s wildlife wealth. It is considered as the national animal because of its grace, strength, agility and enormous power. Also, India is the land of the largest number of tigers in the world and consists of 50% of the world’s tiger population. Yet this creature is the most slaughtered one in the country and is on the verge of becoming extinct. In 1970, the alarm was raised and hunting of tigers was made illegal. Many programs and initiatives were taken for the protection of the tiger population living in the wild.

Essay On Tigers 200 Words

In India, from the era of kings and princes, hunting tigers had been a popular source of entertaining sport, which continued during the British rule. The royal families and elites hunted tigers for several reasons; they were killed for the beautiful skin, which was used for making clothes, rugs, etc; for its multitude of medicinal properties and for other selfish interests. There was and there is a huge demand for tiger parts and products in the market outside India’s border, which is providing an added threat to the tiger’s very existence.

It is also perceived that large development projects like mining, thermal and hydroelectric dams are also affecting the tiger’s habitat as many forests have been destroyed to facilitate such projects.

Why Save Tigers?

As a large predator, tigers play a pivotal role in maintaining the equilibrium of the ecosystem. Tigers being the top predators, they are at the apex of the food cycle. They along with other predators keep a check on the herbivore animals, thus helping in maintaining the right balance of animals in the forest. This cycle can prevent deforestation. One tiger can protect several acres of forest in this way. In this way, the tigers and other animals will continue to get their natural habitat.

Essay On Tigers 500 Words

The very first thing anyone should do is to spread awareness among people regarding the matter of preserving the tigers. One can create and increase attention to “Preserve Tigers” by spreading adverts, leaflets, by the use of the Internet, by social media, by creating websites, etc. Public attention is crucial for such matters.

Protecting the jungles by all means necessary is the next most important phase in order to preserve the population of the tigers. The awareness that was spread earlier will come in handy as people will begin to join the cause on their own. Planting new trees in the areas around the forest is also a great idea.

Raise the voice against the projects that can seriously impact the already decreasing tiger population. The big corporations will eventually have to come down if a voice strong enough was created. Raising the issue and concerns regarding the tiger population with the government can also be helpful.

Project Tiger

Tiger Conservation has become the most crucial project for India and other countries for numerous reasons.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi initiated a conservation program called ‘Project Tiger’ in 1973 in Jim Corbett Park, Uttarakhand to save the tigers from becoming endangered.

The aim of this project was to create a safe and ideal environmental condition for the survival and growth of tigers and their prey.

The project started with nine tiger reserves and today there are 50 reserves across the country. Nagarjuna Sagar is the largest tiger reserve in India.

Over the years, this project has been able to identify and eliminate the factors responsible for the decline of the tiger population in the country and successfully saved tigers to a large extent.  Other than conservation, the aim of Project Tiger is to aid and facilitate the breeding of tigers within a safe environment and transport them to other forests so that their population can be scaled up.

Problems of Project Tiger

The Tiger Project was very successful in its endeavor and the population of the tigers increased up to 3500 tigers in the year 1990 from 1200 tigers in 1973. However, due to illegal poaching, the number drastically dropped. The project was not able to keep pace with the rapid changes and development.

In 2006, the National Tiger Conservation Authority resumed the responsibility of implementation of Project Tiger to protect the endangered tigers. Many other NGOs have supported this government project by implementing many conservation activities to protect tiger habitats, mitigate tiger-human conflict, tackle wildlife crime, monitor tiger population, raise awareness and improve the livelihood of people living near the tiger reserves.

Many social campaigns were launched to create awareness about the alarming state of tigers in the country. Well-known celebrities became the face of these campaigns to attract the public for this national cause.

Tiger is an iconic species and yet it is slowly getting extinct. There could be possibilities that our future generation never gets to see tigers in real life but only in pictures. So it is important that citizens of India become aware of this and take all preventive measures to save this species.

The short and long versions of the essay on Save Tiger in English will help you understand the important points to be included. Learn from these samples and compile essays on this topic on your own.

FAQs on Save Tiger Essay

Why should we save tigers?

The tiger is a large predator, which plays a significant role in the health and diversity of the ecosystem. Tigers are at the top of the food chain, maintaining the balance between the prey and herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed. Hence why keep the herbivorous animals in check and prevent deforestation in nature. With the help of this cycle, a single tiger can protect a whole acre of forest from the deforestation that happens due to the overgrazing by the herbivores. In this way, the tiger knowingly or unknowingly preserves the natural habitats for many other animals and also their own habitats.

When was Project Tiger launched and by whom?

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi launched the Project Tiger in 1973 in Jim Corbett Park, Uttarakhand. The program was launched in order to save the tiger population from becoming endangered.

The conservation of tigers from becoming endangered or worse from going extinct was a serious project for many countries and especially for the country of India as India harbours a great population of tigers and also the biggest species of tigers are also present in India by the name of Bangali Tigers.

Protecting the species of the tigers is a moral and ethical duty of the state of India and also the people living in the nation.

What is the aim of Project Tiger?

The Project Tiger aimed at creating a safe and ideal environmental condition for the survival and growth of tigers and their prey. The project started with making a total of 9 such safe and ideal places called tiger reserves. Nowadays, one can find a full of 50 tiger reserves. Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh is said to be the largest tiger reserve present in India.

The project tiger also works and has been able to identify and eliminate various threats that can lead to a decline in the population of the tigers in the reserves and also outside the reserves, like capturing and punishing hunters and poachers who kill tigers to sell their bodyparts in the international black market.

Mention two reasons why tigers are facing a genuine threat of extinction?

The two reasons for the extinction of tigers are encroaching on the natural habitat of the tigers for the development of industries and the poaching of tigers for their body parts, as there is a huge demand in the international market.

From the era of the kings and princes, Hunting tigers have been a popular source of entertainment sports. Rich and Elite people all around the world to this date demand the beautiful skin of tigers, for making of various materials, not just the clothes, which gives them incentives for the poachers and hunters to kill the tigers. Habitat destruction is due to other human activities like the construction of dams and many other Infrastructure projects run by humans.

A short paragraph on saving tigers will spread awareness about the importance of tigers in maintaining balance in the ecosystem. Here is a sample paragraph for kids to write a perfect paragraph on the topic.

The existence of the most fascinating and fierce cat family member is in danger. The number of tigers in India is gradually decreasing with passing time. Tiger is an endangered species that can soon be extinct if not taken care of. Since we know that tigers are at the top of the food chain, there will be a certain imbalance without tigers. Men are constantly cutting down forests for the progress of humankind, which is threatening the existence and survival of the tigers. But, the leading cause of extinction is poaching, as their body parts are in huge demand on the black market. Project Tiger was launched in the year 1973 by the Indian government to save and protect the tigers. We celebrate International Tiger Day on 29th July every year to spread awareness about protecting tigers.

Here is a sample essay for class 1, 2 and 3 kids to help them write a short essay on saving tigers. This will give them an overall idea about constructing such essays and keep them informed about the topic.

The tiger is declared as the national animal of India. Tigers play an integral role in the diversification of the ecosystem. Yet, in the past century, their population has drastically decreased by more than 90 percent. Historically, hunting down tigers was part of sports and was considered bravery, and tiger skin used to be displayed in old palaces to prove one’s bravery. The main reason behind extinction is hunting tigers down for their skin, which is in great demand in international and black markets. The extinction of tigers can lead to an unprotected ecosystem which will hamper the food chain. This reason is compelling enough to save tigers from going extinct. The Indian government launched a project to save the tiger by restoring safe environments for the tigers. Currently, we have around 2,967 tigers in India. Hopefully, this project and others will increase the existing number of tigers. We celebrate International Tiger Day on 29th July every year to spread awareness about protecting tigers.

Children need to learn to write an extended essay for class 3 on saving tigers to have a deeper understanding of the topic. Knowing more about saving tigers will also help them become responsible citizens. Therefore, here is a sample long essay that can guide children to write essays on this topic.

Tigers are the largest members of the cat family. They are known for their speed, fierceness, orange and black striped skin, and undoubtedly unforgiving nature against prey. There is a threat looming on their existence as tiger populations and habitats have decreased due to poaching, deforestation, and other human activities. The tiger is the national animal of India, and we must spread awareness regarding its existence. Therefore, we celebrate International Tiger Day on 29th July every year to spread awareness about protecting tigers.

Why Is There A Need To Save Tigers?

Tigers are unique animals that play an integral part in the diversity of our ecosystem. A healthy ecosystem supplies people and nature with food, fresh water, and health. Protecting wild tigers and their habitats can benefit numerous species and millions of people. As tigers prey on herbivores, the balance between the forest vegetation that they eat and the prey animals is perfectly maintained.

Causes of Decrease In Tiger Population

Tigers are one of the most important animals that are highly threatened on this planet. In ancient times, hunting a tiger was considered to be a very brave thing to do. Many old palaces now have pictures of tiger hunts and displays of tiger skin. As new laws against killing and hunting tigers were passed, instances of tiger hunting came down. In recent times, tigers have been brutally poached by black marketers and their agents for the tiger skin, which is quite in demand in the international market. This skin is used to make rugs, clothes, etc. Deforestation is also another reason for the sudden steep decrease of these cat species in recent years.

How We Can Save Tigers?

The Government of India launched a project to save the tigers and to restore safe environments for the tigers. This project was introduced in the Jim Corbett National park, which focuses on the preservation and increase in the number of tigers. Tigers are declared to be the national animal of India to mark the act of poaching as an unpatriotic and punishable offence. Even though laws are introduced, enforcing laws is essential, and this needs dedicated officers to look after the tigers. Moreover, we should be aware of contributing to saving tigers so that the balance of the ecosystem is maintained. Given below are some points that can help in saving tigers:

  • Stop deforestation as the jungle is the tiger’s natural habitat
  • Say no to poaching, as it is the main reason behind the decline in tigers
  • Don’t buy animal skin clothing to discourage poaching and illegal hunting

Children will learn about the importance of saving tigers. They will grow up to be responsible and aware citizens who will take the necessary steps to maintain the balance of the ecosystem. They will also be able to gather a lot of information about tigers, their importance in nature, and how to increase their number. This will help them develop a better perspective about the topic and make informed decisions in the future.

We need to educate our kids regarding such crucial topics so they can make better decisions regarding the environment and wildlife.

Tiger Conservation in India Essay | Save Tiger Essay

September 22, 2019 by Sandeep

500+ Words Essay on Tiger Conservation in India

The tiger isn’t simply a charismatic species or just another wild animal living in some far forest. The tiger could be a distinctive animal that plays a important role within the health and diversity of an ecosystem.

It is a prime predator that is at the apex of the food chain and keeps the population of untamed ungulates under control, thereby maintaining the balance between prey herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed.

Therefore, the presence of tigers within the forest is an indicator of the well being of the ecosystem. The extinction of this top predator is a sign that its ecosystem isn’t sufficiently protected, and neither would it exist for long thereafter.

So once a species goes extinct, it leaves behind a scar, that affects the whole ecosystem. Another reason why we want to save the tiger is that our forests are water catchment areas.

Therefore, it’s not just about saving a gorgeous animal. It is about making certain that we live a bit longer because the forests are known to produce ecological services like clean air, water, fertilisation, temperature regulation etc.

In India, one of the main tiger protection initiatives is called Project Tiger. This initiative was started in 1973 by Indira Gandhi and has, till today, established more than 25 tiger reserves throughout the country. In order to protect these animals ,these reserves have been established on reclaimed land, where human development and inhabitation is forbidden.

As a result of this programmed and its efforts, the population of Bengal Tigers had raised from about 200 in 1973 to a formidable 3500+ in 2007. Although poaching remains an enormous threat, and thousands of tigers are killed as a result, these conservation and protection efforts can’t be ignored. Sadly, though, about 60% of the tigers alive in the census of 2007 have been slaughtered at the hands of illegal hunters.

The main aim of Project Tiger has been to help and facilitate the breeding of tigers inside a secure environment and then transport these tigers further afield so that the worlds population can be upped.

WWF-India conducts regular environment education activities with local communities, stakeholders and the wider civil society to make them aware about the critical issues facing conservation, and the steps they can take to help.

These awareness programmed are targeted at school children and teachers in schools around tiger reserves as well as urban cities. Awareness programmed are organised for numerous responsible stakeholders in touristy, encouraging them to follow and promote environment and wildlife friendly practices around wildlife habitats. Local communities are engaged in programmed that discourage the looking of untamed animals.

Improvement in Survey Techniques

It is not just the tiger numbers that have improved but the very method of estimating tigers has improved too over the decades. What brought a huge change in the estimation method of the tiger population was the disappearance of tigers from the Sariska Tiger Reserve in 2005.

This was the biggest crisis faced in the history of tiger conservation in India. The government responded by appointing a tiger task force that was mandated not only to look into causes of tiger disappearance from Sariska but also to look into the practice of tiger conservation in the country and give recommendations so that a Sariska-like situation does not arise anywhere else.

The Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 was amended in 2006 and a separate chapter on tiger was inserted, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau were created, methodology of tiger estimation was changed to more robust and scientific one using camera traps, core-buffer-corridor strategy was adopted, village rehabilitation on a voluntary basis with generous incentive was introduced and so on. All these actions paved the way for tiger recovery in India.

Factors that adversely affect the Tiger

The depletion of the tiger population in the country has been mainly due to shrinkage of tiger habitat, biotic interference in habitat, hunting of prey animals, poaching of tigers and poisoning. In a mass hunting tribal tradition in Odisha and West Bengal, and some parts of Chhattisgarh, for example, hunters wipe out any wild animal they encounter.

The big cat is also facing threat from the degradation of forest status outside protected areas/tiger reserves due to human pressure, livestock pressure, ecologically unsustainable land uses, fragmentation leading to loss of gene flow from source populations, loss of forest quality in terms of prey biomass, loss of reproduction due to disturbance on account of heavily used infrastructure like highways and lack of adequate protection in outside areas, insurgency, law and order problems.

How Endangered are Tigers

Conservation efforts in recent years mean that tiger numbers are on the increase, however they’re in no way out of the woods yet. Current tiger populations are extraordinarily tough to calculate as their home ground is so fragmented, however the cats are classified as endangered.

The conservation of tigers isn’t with regards to increasing their numbers as a lot of tigers need more habitat, that is changing into less and less obtainable daily. It is necessary that tiger populations stop dwindling, and habitat stops being lost.

Threats Tigers are Facing

Tigers face an associated degree of increased range of issues once it involves living within the regions they need antecedently thrived certain thousands of years.

  • Poaching – each single a part of the tiger is listed in illegal markets. It is employed in ancient Asian medication that has no healthful worth in any respect, creating the deaths of those animals for this purpose needless.
  • Habitat Loss – tigers have lost ninety three percent of their historical vary as their surround has been destroyed or degraded by human act.
  • Human-Wildlife Conflict – with smaller forests to hunt in, tigers are forced to kill farm animal and once they do the farmers usually retaliate and kill the large cat.

Some practical steps you can take to help save the tiger

Spread the word.

  • Spread the word far and wide that the tiger and its habitat are under threat and that they need our help. You can use social networking sites to open discussion and spread awareness.

Be a responsible tourist

  • The wilderness is to be experienced and not to be disturbed and contaminated. Follow the forest department pointers once visiting any space ( geographical area) , tiger reserve above all. As the saying goes ‘Don’t leave anything behind except foot steps, and don’t take anything except memories.

Voice your concerns with the policy makers

  • If you are really concerned and feel that more needs to be done for tiger conservation, then write polite letters to the decision makers – the Prime Minister, the Minister for Environment and Forests or even your local MP.

Help prevent wildlife trade

  • Say ‘NO’ to tiger trade by refusing to buy tiger parts and items prepared from tiger derivatives. If you recognize of any information on poaching or trade of illegal wildlife, inform the local law enforcement agencies. You can also contact TRAFFIC- an organization fighting the powerful poachers and pass on the knowledge to them.

Reducing pressure on natural resources

  • By reducing the use of products derived from forests, such as timber and paper.

As part of the ecosystem, all living beings have the right to survive. A force in the world can claim the life of a living creature, be it an animal, bird, or human being. Even mute animals have reasons and purposes to survive. So if they are uselessly harmed then humans have to protest against that. The wildlife must be saved through protection laws and creating specific spaces for them.

Several campaigns like ‘’ save animals’’ are produced often to rescue wildlife from unnecessary hunting, skinning, and selling of animals. Excessive violence towards the animals will lead to the disbalance of the ecosystem. Thus wildlife sanctuaries, bird museums, reserve forests, and zoos are created for the preservation of animals.

As human beings, it is our responsibility to create a safe and secure place for all living beings on earth. We must remember that we share the earth with different parts of the ecosystem. The ecosystem includes flora and fauna; the fauna again has several animals and birds to survive on earth.

While humans are rational creatures, they also must keep their aggression against animals in check. They must remember one thing for sure- that they share the earth with everyone. Animals and birds are not provided with a more thoughtful system so that they can protect themselves. So often they are victims of hunting and poaching. They are sold at high rates and killed for human benefit.

Killing and selling animals have a huge demand in the local as well as the international markets. The tusks, skins, nails, teeth, and other parts of the animal body are used to manufacture different products for decoration. But while humans enjoy these products, we forget how we are affecting the ecosystem of the earth.

Even the loss of one animal can lead to severe imbalances in the food chain of the world. Thus saving animals is one of the primary duties of all human beings. If we pledge to care for them, then they can find a more secure place on earth. Saving the animals is our biggest virtue.

Nowadays several issues and problems on earth get covered by the media and campaigns. One of the most significant campaigns that often attracts our attention is the ‘’save animals’’ campaign, which is organized in several parts of the world. Now, why is it important to save the animals or what outcome will that bring if we save animals? Let us discuss this in greater detail.

When the earth was first created several life forms started occupying it. The world was soon populated by ye smallest as well as the largest creatures. While the microscopic organisms survived beyond our notice, huge animals like the dinosaurs and even the most intelligent animals such as humans both survived on earth at different periods of time.

So humans are equipped with the power to rescue all animals on the earth. It is one of the most important duties of humans to look after their fellow beings that they are surrounded. The campaigns conducted for the safety of animals are important which helps to spread awareness regarding them.

Animal safety is important as they build up our ecosystem and a little imbalance in their quantity can create a great problem in the life cycle of the earth. Often laws are made to deforest several acres of land and also to hunt a specific group of animals for human benefit. Recently a law has been published in Canada to hunt and kill several wolves for making some industries.

Almost immediately several campaigns were organized to protect the rights of the wild animals. Pledges were signed, petitions were written, and campaign walks were organized to save wildlife. So it becomes quite important for humans to consider the safety of the animals as well as themselves.

Animals are mostly terrified of hunting and poaching. Baby animals are targeted the most. They are hunted and often trapped for selling them to circus companies. Even these cubs are killed for their meat and skin, which have huge demands in the market. The skins, teeth, nails, hooves, tusks, and meat are sold for creating sophisticated things. Also, deforestation is a principal reason for the depletion of animals.

Hence what is the greatest duty is to reduce human aggression towards animals as they are all parts of the same nature we use. Like our blood relatives, these animals are related to us. So protecting them is our primary job. If animals are saved then we can create great harmony between ourselves and the world.

English Summary

Short Speech on Save Tiger in English for Students and Children

Good morning! Respected Principal, teachers and my dear companions, I stand before you to speak on the topic – Save Tiger . Perhaps the most beautiful of God’s creations are the birds and animals of the world. And among the most ferocious of these, is the proud tiger. This creature is also the national animal of India.

Tiger is a wild animal found in deep forests, wildlife centuries and now in zoos as well. They are helpful in maintaining the ecosystem as they are carnivorous in nature.

But it is really sad to say, that we are only left with few. Saving them is the only option left. Save tiger was an initiative taken by the government of India in 1973 to put a ban on illegal hunting and poaching of tigers.

As hunting of tigers was a favourite pastime for kings. Tigers started decreasing in number. The truth is that they are on the verge of extinction. They are also becoming less in number due to deforestation because people cut down trees to fulfil their needs but they often forget that they are destroying the habitat of many.

Saving them has become a matter of concern for many parts of the world. If the tigers go extinct the whole system will be disturbed. The need of the hour is that such beautiful and royal species should be preserved and protected if we don’t want to hear them in stories like dinosaurs.

We as students should also help the government in spreading awareness among people and also work towards protecting our environment. A proper check on tigers should be done in both forests and zoos by the government. Tigers are one of a kind, so please keep them in mind.
