With the rapid growth of economy, fires occur frequently in various dangerous places. According to the investigation, in the ancient tragic fire cases, the number of intelligent mobile fire-fighting equipment is very small, and ordinary fire extinguishers and fire-fighting trains can't put out the fire in time and quickly. As a kind of robot, intelligent fire-fighting robot plays an increasingly important role in fire-fighting and rescue. In this paper, the design of fire robot is studied. Intelligent fire-fighting robot is mainly composed of fire-fighting movement system, fire-fighting water spray system, fire-fighting control system and other components. All parts cooperate with each other and work together to complete the fire-fighting task.

This paper aims to provide details of recently developed firefighting robots and their applications.

Design/methodology/approach

Following a short introduction, this paper, firstly, gives details of a selection of recently launched terrestrial firefighting robots. It then discusses the role of drones and describes some recent developments and applications. Finally, conclusions are drawn.

The last five years have seen the commercialisation of a growing number of terrestrial firefighting robots, which are remotely controlled, all-terrain vehicles that support fire crews operating in hazardous environments. They are equipped with imaging and other sensors, which provide firefighters with enhanced situation awareness and hazard warnings. Drones are being developed to fight fires in high-rise buildings. Some feature on-board fire extinguishing materials, whereas others can elevate a fire hose to the site of the fire. Drones equipped with advanced imaging devices are being used increasingly by firefighters to enhance situation awareness and assist in dealing with wildfires. Technologies are being developed that aim to increase the flight duration and payload capacity of firefighting drones.

Originality/value

Firefighting is a recent robotic application, and this paper provides an insight into this by considering a range of products and developments.

Fire accidents are a very common man-made or technological phenomenon now and lead to mass casualties and damage to property and wealth. It is not only that poses a threat to living beings, toxic gases and fumes emitted when materials burn can cause harm to the respiratory systems of people nearby. Since fire accidents cannot be stopped altogether, the most that can be done is to prevent them or even if they occur, to put them out as early as possible. Early detection of fire using alarms and notifications can make people aware of any fire breakout in their surroundings and help in the prevention of a potentially major catastrophe. This project is aimed to create a robot that can extinguish the fire with ease. This proposed project is expected to produce a small but very powerful and versatile robot. It detects fire in the disaster-prone area. The project will be designed with the help of a Raspberry Pi. Using IoT and a Wi-Fi module, we can control our robot manually using mobile phones. A camera mounted on the body of the robot helps the user see the surroundings of the robot via a live feed, and the Raspberry Pi reflects the current status of the robot. Once the robot detects the fire, the owner is notified on their device using a short message service (SMS). Depending on the severity of the fire, the fire department is also notified, so that appropriate actions may be taken to prevent any disasters. Fire and smoke can be detected using thermal sensors and an ionization smoke detector that can be installed in the enclosed environment where the robot is deployed. The fire detection robot overcomes the problem of colliding with an obstacle by sensing its path with the help of an ultrasonic sensor that measures the distance between the robot and the object. On reaching its destination, the robot sprays water on the fire to put it out. Being insulated by acrylic sheets helps prevent any damage to the robot because of the fire.

A fire outbreak is a hazardous act that leads to numerous consequences. Detecting a fire at an early stage and extinguishing it can aid in prevention of various accident. Till now we rely on human resource. This often leads to risking the life of that person. Therefore, fire security becomes an important aspect to save human lives. In this paper a fire extinguishing robot has been proposed and designed which detects the fire location and extinguish fire by using sprinkler on triggering the pump. This robot uses three flame sensors for accurate fire detection. This proposed model of Fire Extinguishing Robot using Arduino used to detect presence of fire and extinguishing it automatically without any human interference. It contains gear motors and motor driver to control the movement of robot when it detects any presence of fire and will automatically start the water pump to extinguish that fire breakout. This model robot has a water ejector which is capable of ejecting water at the fire breakout place. The water ejector pipe can be move towards the required direction using servo motor .The whole operation is controlled by an Arduino UNO micro controller.

This advanced firefighting robotic system independently detects and extinguishes fire. In the age of technology, the world is slowly turning towards the automated system and self-travelling vehicles, fire fighters are constantly at a risk of losing their life. Even though there are a lot of precautions taken for Fire accidents, these natural/man-made disasters do occur now and then. In the event of a fire breakout, to rescue people and to put out the fire we are forced to use human resources which are not safe. With the advancement of technology especially in Robotics it is very much possible to replace humans with robots for fighting the fire. This would improve the efficiency of firefighters and would also prevent them from risking human lives Fire spreads rapidly if it is not controlled. In case of a gas leakage there even may be an explosion. So, in order to overcome this issue, safe guard live of our hero, our system comes to the rescue. This firefighting robotic system is powered by Arduino Uno development board it consists of the ultra-sonic sensor mounted on a servo motor for obstacles detection and free path navigation, it is also equipped with the fire sensor or flame sensor for detecting and approaching fire it also makes use of water tank and spray mechanism for extinguishing the fire. Water spraying nozzle is mounted on servo motor to cover maximum area. Water is pumped from the main water tank to the water nozzle with the help of a pump. This water pump needs driver circuit as it consumes a lot of current, much more than the controller provides.

Recently a survey is conducted on fire accidents and it says that so many people lost their lives in this pandemic situation. To prevent these incidents is also a tougher job for a human because the human tendency is more in making mistakes. If any little mistake is done it causes a huge loss to the people and property also. In computers there is no chance in doing mistakes. Based on this situation we want to build an Arduino based firefighting robot. When there is a fire accident happens in tenth floor building, it is not possible for a fire engine to put out the fire and there is a less possibilities to use a fire extinguisher for a human. The robot is useful to put out the fire where there is no way for a man to move. It detects the fire by a flame sensor and move towards the fire when the robot reaches the fire the robot halts and motor is activated then it sprinkles the water on it and put out the fire. This is the whole point of our project.

Fire hazards are a common phenomenon in developing countries like India causing loss of lives and property every year. Fire emergencies occur where either a human cannot reach on time or location of fire is hazardous and life threatening for humans to approach and douse the fire. The Design and development of a Fire Fighting Robot will provide an impactful solution for society and help save lives. The solution uses Flame sensors to detect the fire hazard, Microcontroller to analyse data from sensors and decide the right course of managing the fire hazard. After analysing it uses WIFI module as a communicating device to alert a human being in charge of the control by raising an alarm through activation of the LED. The user activates the Fire extinguisher robot using the Blynk application to spray water with the help of a pump onto the fire guided by servo motor to synchronize the direction of water output.

Fire detection and Extinguisher Robot is a Hardware based model used to extinguish the fire during fire accidents. It works in two modes autonomous mode and manual mode. In manual mode, the robot can be operated by use of remote control and live streaming camera. In autonomous mode, Robot has been developed which features to move in the direction with respect to the fire intensity. The flame sensing capability of the robot is varied by the flame sensor, above which the robot starts responding to the fire. The temperature sensor provides a backup to the flame sensor if needed in vast circumstances. The most added advantage of this Robot is that it turns ON automatically as it detects the fire around its surroundings, using flame sensor and tries to extinguish by moving in the direction with respect to the fire. The Robot shield is coated with aluminium boards that are capable of withstanding very high temperatures. The Robot finds its applications in Rescue operations during fire accidents, where the possibility for servicemen to enter the fire-prone areas is very less and also during wars to perform rescue functions.
