The 7 Best PowerPoint Clickers on the Market (2024 Review)

Written by co-founder Kasper Langmann , Microsoft Office Specialist.

Want to step up your presentation game? A smart and reliable PowerPoint clicker is all you need🎯

It is a small wireless remote that fits in your hand. Use it to move between different slides. Pause or restart, laser point, and control what your audience gets to see.

The right PowerPoint clicker can turn you into a presentation wizard🧙🏼‍♂️

But with so many of them on the market, how do you find the right one? Below, I’ve listed the seven absolute best PowerPoint clickers on the market.

⚠️Spoiler Alert⚠️

My top pick is the Logitech R800 .

It stands out as one of the most advanced clickers with very well-thought-out features. Such as a small LCD to help you track the time gone into presenting. Set a timer on it or monitor the battery level of your clicker🔋

However, these might not make the most important features for your needs. To find the best of the best for yourself, continue reading.

A quick note of how we test each clicker

Each clicker on this list is best in at least one crucial aspect. Be it the battery or the laser light, or something else.

To pull this list together, we have evaluated each presenter on a total of 5 parameters 💪

Laser Pointer, Battery, Control Range, Compatibility, User Friendliness.

So, in the review below, we will score each of these parameters for every clicker. Based on these, you can find the clicker that best suits your needs.

PowerPoint Clickers Reviewed

1: Logitech R800 (Best Overall)

2: Kensington Wireless Presenter K33272WW (Best Basic)

3: Kensington K72426AMA (Best Cursor Control)

4: Logitech R500 (Easiest to Use)

5: Amerteer Wireless Presenter (Best on Budget)

6: Amerteer Finger Ring Presenter (Best Ring Presenter)

7: NINJAABXY Wireless Clicker (Best Ergonomic Design)

This list was last updated on January 4th, 2023.

1. Logitech R800 (Best Overall)

The Logitech R800 is the perfect choice for professionals who can’t stand anything less than perfection.

The best highlight of this presenter? An excellent battery life. It works on two AAA batteries that will give you a 20-hour lifetime in laser light mode😍

And in simple presentation mode, the battery life goes up to 1050 hours. No meeting lasts longer than that.

Plus, the LCD screen allows users to track the battery life. So you are well informed about the battery life, and there’s no guessing game.

Specifications in the version we reviewed

  • Laser Light: Green laser light
  • Connectivity: Plug-and-play USB Receiver
  • Battery: 2 AAA batteries
  • Control Range: 100 Feet (30 meters)
  • Special feature: LCD Display with track of time and battery

Score on review parameters

  • Laser Pointer: Green laser light is a big plus as it never fails (not even in well-lit rooms).
  • Battery Type: Two replaceable AAA batteries give you an excellent battery life of 20 to 1050 hours.
  • Control Range: A 100-feet control range. This means you can roam around your conference room (and even in a nearby garden) freely. The clicker will still work. And if you get a little too away, the reception indicator will beep to bring you back in the control range.
  • User Friendliness: Plug and play means just connecting the USB receiver to any Windows PC, and that’s it. No complicated setups. When done, unplug the USB receiver and store it inside the actual clicker.
  • LCD Screen: Here’s an additional feature that we would love to highlight. The LCD on top of the presenter allows you to track the time, the battery, and wireless reception. Get silent or vibration alerts when the battery goes low.
  • Value-for-Money: For $78 and all these modern features, we won’t call it exorbitant. But yes, slightly overpriced.

Overall Spreadsheeto Rating: 💚💚💚💚💚💚 (6/6)

This, in my view, is the best choice for professionals. With live information on the LCD screen, there’s no chance of running out of battery or range.

2. Kensington Wireless Presenter K33272WW (Best Basic)

If you need a basic PowerPoint clicker that’s reliable and easy to use, look no further. This wireless presenter from Kensington will take care of it all.

With a four-intuitive-button design, it is very user-friendly. You need not wrap your head around a complicated design with lots of buttons and unnecessary functions😏

It’s simple, very durable, and ergonomically built to fit your hands.

It offers AES 28-bit encryption (also adopted by the US Govt. as the encryption standard). This makes it safe and secure against any hacking attempts.

  • Laser Light: Red
  • Battery : External battery
  • Control Range: 65 Feet
  • Special feature: AES 128-bit encryption (secure wireless technology)
  • Price : $38
  • Laser Pointer: A red pointer laser light is great for a basic presenter.
  • Battery Type: Replaceable battery goes a long way.
  • Control Range: A Plug-and-play 2.4GHz and 65 feet control range are pretty good even if you have a large-sized auditorium to address.
  • User Friendliness: An intuitive design of four buttons to move between slides, hide the screen and use the laser light makes it very user-friendly.
  • Value-for-Money: If you’re focused on reliability and longevity – a basic design for $38 might bring great value for you. But considering the only very basic features offered by it, we don’t score it great in this aspect.

Overall Spreadsheeto Rating: 💚💚💚💚💚🤍 (5/6)

Although the Kensington K33272WW provides an internal compartment for storing the USB receiver, it’s inside the battery cover. You might find it difficult to detach the battery cover to store the USB receiver every time. Other clicker models have a more convenient style for USB receiver storage.

3. Kensington K72426AMA (Best Cursor Control)

Which is the second best PowerPoint clicker on this list? The Kensington K72426AMA.

Why? The list of reasons is a little long✌

But the best part is the joystick in it that gives you cursor control. This PowerPoint clicker from Kensington is almost a portable mouse.

Other clickers would allow you to move between slides, but what if you want to click something on the slide (like a hyperlink)? Would you rush back to your PC to use the mouse? That’s no longer needed.

Use this clicker to launch any file or click anywhere with its joystick.

Wireless presenter with bright green laser pointer and cursor control for presentations.

  • Laser Light: Green laser
  • Connectivity : Plug-and-play USB / MicroSD Card
  • Control Range: 150 Feet (50 meters)
  • Compatibility : Windows & Mac OS X (Keynote and PowerPoint)
  • Special feature: Cursor control mode (Joystick helps using it as a mouse)
  • Price : $45
  • Laser Pointer: Green laser light which is 10X brighter than ordinary red laser pointers. Also, if you think red is a little too harsh to use on-screen, go green.
  • Battery Type: Replaceable battery.
  • Control Range: Excellent control range of 150 feet. That’s the best control range we have seen in all the presenters reviewed until now.
  • User Friendliness: Simple design with four intuitive buttons. Specially designed contours to facilitate holding for long hours.
  • Value-for-Money: Excellent features for a reasonable price of $45. Great value for money.
Kensington offers similar models in two opalescent colors – pearl white and rose gold. Both of them are real eye candies. If you want an aesthetic look with great functionality, check out Kensington K75771WW (Pearl White) and K757720WW (Rose Gold).

4. Logitech R500 (Easiest to Use)

Minimalism, but with some sass! If that’s your demand, the Logitech R500 is meant for you.

The R500 is a hassle-free, reliable presenter. It comes with three big buttons that are intuitively designed so you can confidently navigate between slides without having to look down⚡

Affordable, easy-to-use wireless presenter with laser pointer and presentation mode.

  • Laser Light: Red laser
  • Connectivity : Plug-and-play USB / Bluetooth
  • Compatibility : Windows, Android, MacOS, Linux. Presentation software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, iWork, Google Slides, Prezi, etc.)
  • Battery : AAA battery (runs for 12 months)
  • Control Range: 65 Feet (20 meters)
  • Special feature: Pairing with the Logitech Presentation App
  • Price : $76
  • Laser Pointer: Bright red laser light
  • Battery Type: Replaceable AAA battery runs for 12 months. Also includes a power saving mode to save battery under low battery conditions.
  • Control Range: Move away freely for up to a 20 feet control range.
  • User Friendliness: The rubber texture and textured buttons make using this presentation remote control easier. It will fit in your palm snugly. Excellent user-friendliness.
  • Connectivity : If you’re buying R500, must take note of this feature. Unlike all other clickers, the R500 can also be connected via a Bluetooth connection in addition to a USB receiver.
  • Value-for-Money: R500 offers great features but, for $76, it’s a little over-priced.
If you want to navigate confidently, easily, and freely between slides of your daily presentations – I believe R500 to be one of the best fits for you. It is compatible with almost all operating systems.

5. Amerteer Wireless Presenter (Best on Budget)

Got hyperlinks in your slides that you want to launch during the presentation?

Ordinary presenters won’t help you with this situation – you need the Amerteer Wireless Presenter . It’s slim like a pen and lightweight like a feather🖊

If you need an excellent presenter but are on a tight budget – you’ll not find an option better than this.

  • Connectivity : Plug-and-play USB Receiver
  • Battery : AAA battery
  • Special feature: Supports hyperlinks
  • Control Range: 39 Feet (12 meters)
  • Price : $12

Laser Pointer: Powerful red laser light. Battery Type: This doesn’t include a battery. You’d have to insert an AAA battery. We don’t appreciate this part much. Control Range: Allows a control range of 39 feet. User Friendliness: Very easy to use. Has a hyperlink button that’ll navigate you through all the hyperlinks on the screen with one press. Double-clicking the same button will launch the selected hyperlink. Additionally, it has a very slim design that looks just like a pen. Value-for-Money: For $12 only, it’s literally like buying a bag of chips (pringles, let’s say). For this price, the value for money on this product is just too good.

This one’s a good choice – and the price tag makes it even better.

6. Amerteer Finger Ring Presenter (Best Ring Presenter)

Let us now move on from simple remote control-shaped designs. Need something different?

Something as compact as a finger ring? Let me introduce you to the Amerteer Finger Ring Presenter 💍

A non-slip rubber-based ring clicker that fits around your finger – no falling off, no need to hold it throughout the presentation. Wear it on and navigate through slides with ease and grace.

  • Connectivity: Plug-and-Play USB Receiver
  • Compatibility : Windows, Android, MacOS, Linux. Presentation apps (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, iWork, Google Slides, Prezi, etc.)
  • Battery : Built-in rechargeable Li-polymer battery
  • Special feature: Rubberized slip-resistant ring made to fit the size of a finger
  • Price : $18.99

Laser Pointer: Red laser light to point out any area you like. Battery Type: No need to replace batteries. Has a rechargeable Li-polymer battery that can be recharged through the USB port. Switch it off when out of use to save power. A charging time of 1 to 1.5 hours allows you a playing time of up to 7 to 10 days. Very seamless. Control Range: Offers a fine control range of up to 12 meters. User Friendliness: An anti-slip rubberized ring that fits around your finger – no worries about dropping it or constantly gripping it. To use all the buttons, you only need your thumb. This makes it very easy to use and carry. Value-for-Money: For $19 only, it’s dirt cheap. Superb value for money.

Don’t want to be hand-bound while you present? That’s one big reason why you need this Ring presenter. Fixes in your finger so you can freely bring your hands to action and animate them just as you like.

7. NINJAABXY Wireless Clicker (Best Ergonomic)

The NINJAABXY Wireless presenter is more of a basic presenter. But, why we like it the most is because of its ergonomic design and value for money💸

It is made using environment-friendly ABS plastics. Plus, it features an ergonomic design that supports long holding hours. And when not in use, slide it into your pocket, and it will unnoticeably fit in.

  • Compatibility : Windows, Android, MacOS, Linux, MacBook, Chromebook, etc.
  • Control Range: 50 Feet (15 meters)
  • Special feature: Laser range of 300 feet
  • Price : $13.99

Laser Pointer: Red laser light that extends across 300 feet. Battery Type: Replaceable battery. Control Range: Access up to 50 feet. User Friendliness: Just plug and play the USB receiver in your computer/laptop – no software and no setup formalities. The ergonomic design and button placement make it very user-friendly. Value-for-Money: It comes for $14 only and offers all the basic features of a presenter. We find it to be of great value for the price tag it shows up.

  • Insert Batteries: Open the clicker’s battery compartment and insert the required batteries.

To do this, ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your computer, put the clicker in pairing mode (usually by holding down a specific button), and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process.

How do I use a remote clicker in PowerPoint?

Using a remote clicker in PowerPoint is a simple and effective way to control your next presentation. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use a remote clicker in PowerPoint:

  • Connect the Clicker: Ensure your clicker is turned on and the USB receiver (or Bluetooth connection if it’s a Bluetooth clicker) is correctly connected to your computer.
  • Start the Presentation: Open your PowerPoint presentation on your computer.

  • Advance Slides: During your speech, click the forward (or next) button on the clicker to move to the next slide. The slide should also change on your computer screen.

Is green or red laser better for presentation?

Both green and red laser pointers can be practical, but each has its advantages and considerations:

Green Laser Pointers:

  • Visibility: Green lasers are generally more visible to the human eye than red ones, especially in brightly lit rooms or when projecting on screens with high ambient light.
  • Long Range: Green lasers tend to have a more extended range than red lasers, making them suitable for larger venues and auditoriums.
  • Professional Look: Green lasers often appear more vibrant and professional, which can enhance the presenter’s image.

Red Laser Pointers:

  • Cost-Effective: Red lasers are more common and often affordable than green ones.
  • Suitable for Small Rooms: Red lasers can be as effective as green ones in smaller meeting rooms or classrooms with lower ambient light.
  • Eye Safety: Some green lasers may have a higher power output, which can concern eye safety. Conversely, red lasers are generally considered safer and are often used with lower power ratings.

Regardless of the color, always ensure the laser pointer you choose is within safe power levels and handle it responsibly to avoid any potential hazards.

  • Click on the “Transitions” tab in the top menu.
  • In the “Timing” group, you can specify the “After” time under “Advance Slide.” This will determine how long the slide will remain on the screen before advancing to the next one.

Guide to the Best Wireless Presenters (Presentation Remotes) for 2023

Photo of author

In both the corporate and educational world, giving presentations is an important part of life. Anything that can help your presentation go smoothly can have a positive effect on your career. Luckily, there’s plenty of technology out there that can help you out in this area. Digital projectors are clearer and easier to see than the models we had available only a few short years ago, and most can now integrate with remote controllers.

Your typical remote controller is nothing more than a button that allows you to advance to the next slide. But there are a few models out there that offer much more control than this. You can start and stop multimedia, go back to a previous slide, or even use a laser pointer to draw attention to specific parts of your presentation. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at the three best presentation remotes on the market.

Canon PR10-G Wireless Presentation Remote

Whether you’re looking for the latest photo gear, a high-quality printer, or powerful business technology, Canon is an excellent choice. They’ve been manufacturing presentation remotes for quite some time now, but the PR10-G is the latest in modern presentation technology.

Canon PR10-G

The Canon PR10-G Wireless Presentation Remote is easy to hold in the hand, but built to withstand a lot of use and abuse. It’s made from injection molded plastic, tastefully designed with a lightly textured pattern that makes it both resistant to scratches and easy to hold. Right where your thumb rests are the easy to push buttons. They use rubber dome actuators that provide a firmer press but won’t wear out with time. At the top you’ve got a handy LCD display. This screen can be used for a variety of reasons. Most people will use it for timing your presentations.

I’m sure we all know how important this is. When rehearsing, it’s easy to set a timeline and stick to it. But once you get in front of people, you find that you’re either spending too much time on one topic, or rushing through the presentation quicker than you expected. With the timer, you’ll be able to find out where you are at with just a quick glance at the face of the display. You can also use the timer to keep track of where you are at in your presentation if you’ve integrated it with video or audio media.

Canon PR10-G

Perhaps the most important feature of any wireless presenter is the control layout. This is one of the many areas where the Canon model really excels. At the top, you’ve got the large button that turns the laser pointer on or off. A partial press will keep the light on as long as it’s held down. But if you depress it all the way, the laser will stay on until pressed a second time.

Below that you’ve got the typical forward and backwards buttons. Below each of those, there are two unique buttons you might not have seen before. The first is the “expand” button. This can be used with both PowerPoint or Keynote to blow up an image, video, or diagram to full size. Press it again to return to the standard size. On the right, you’ve got the start / stop button that can trigger playback of multimedia.

Canon PR10-G

Compatibility

The Canon PR10-G is designed to work straight out of the box with Apple’s Keynote or Microsoft’s PowerPoint. You won’t need to go through any complicated setup procedure, just unpack it and start using it.

The biggest issue with compatibility is range. Presentation remotes often have to choose between standard Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi direct. Bluetooth is the most compatible of all standards, but suffers from short range. Wi-Fi direct works only with modern devices, but supports a longer range. Canon found a creative solution for this problem. Their remote comes bundled with a high-powered Bluetooth transceiver that plugs into the USB port on any Mac or Windows computer. This allows them to use a higher-powered setting that isn’t supported by all devices. The end result is a huge 100-foot range, allowing the remote to be used in even the largest presentation rooms.

Even without drivers, the presentation remote can be used with any Windows computer from Vista SP2 and up. This means that Windows 7, 8, and 10 all work out of the box. Mac OS 10.5 and up are supported, meaning that the remote will work with any Intel based Mac released in the last 11 years.

Canon PR10-G

The stand out feature of this remote is the powerful green laser. This laser pointer might look a little different from the standard red ones, but it’s up to 8 times brighter than the red wavelength. This means that even in the brightest most well-illuminated room, you’ll have no problem drawing attention to the most important parts of your presentation.

Another great feature of canons presentation remote is the vibration feature. You can easily set notifications at various points throughout your presentations to help keep you on track. It will automatically vibrate one, five, or ten minutes before the end to remind you to wrap things up. You can also set the timer to vibrate at any other point, as needed.

Kensington Wireless Presenter

If the name rings a bell, it’s because Kensington is known primarily for their high-quality laptop security devices. The Kensington lock is generally accepted as being one of the locks on the market. Their remote presenter goes hand in hand with these locks, as you’ll often want to keep your notebook safe while you give your presentation.

Kensington Wireless Presenter

The incredibly compact Kensington Wireless Presenter is designed to be simple and easy to use. While it’s not the most attractive of the bunch, you might be surprised to learn that it’s actually very comfortable to hold in the hand. Its strong curves fit with the curves of your hand, meaning that you’re not going to get uncomfortable even when you’re using it for long periods of time. Aside from the four buttons on the face, there isn’t really a whole lot of extras on this presentation remote. But the one thing we did really like was the USB port on the bottom. This can be used to charge the remote, but also provides a handy storage space for the USB receiver when not in use.

Kensington Wireless Presenter

The control scheme with this remote is simple, but still highly effective. The two buttons that you’ll use the most, the forward and backward buttons, are located on either side of the main section. On the opposite orientation, you’ve got the play and stop buttons. The main difference between this button and some of the more advanced models is that each one serves a single purpose.

Kensington Wireless Presenter

For example, Canon combined the play and stop buttons. If your media is currently playing, then the button will stop it, and vice versa. But this can create confusion in presentations where there are multiple media types, or if you change slides without stopping the previous media. To avoid any awkward mistakes, many presenters will prefer this simple control scheme.

Kensington Wireless Presenter

The Kensington Wireless Presenter decided to go for a high bandwidth method of communication to offer solid range without dropouts. Running on the 2.4 Ghz frequency, it requires that a USB dongle be used with your computer. This transceiver can be used with Windows 7, 8, and 10 PCs. It can also work with OSX systems from 10.6 and up. It works with Microsoft PowerPoint out of the box, but the drivers allow you to map the buttons to the keyboard. With a few quick clicks, you can set it up to control any presentation software you like.

Logitech R800 Professional Presenter

We’ve reviewed Logitech’s accessories many times before, and not once have we come across one that disappoints us. While their professional wireless presenter is much larger than some, the impressive range of included features makes this presenter just as powerful as it is large.

Logitech Professional Presenter R800

The Logitech R800 Professional Presenter is ergonomically designed to be comfortable to hold in the hand, and keeps all of your most important features easily accessible from the face. But aside from the standard controls, you’ve got access to a powerful LCD display on the face that performs much of the same features as the Canon model. It can help you keep track of how long you’ve bene presenting for, how long you’ve spent on a particular slide, or show you a countdown to a specific time.

Logitech Professional Presenter R800

The controls are quite similar to those on the Canon. You’ve got the forward and backward buttons for navigating between slides, the full screen button for expanding visual aids, and the play button to start and stop embedded media. But the unique feature on this remote is the programmable button located just below the display. You can configure this button to set any particular element you like, giving you a little more control over your presentation.

Logitech Professional Presenter R800

This wireless remote presenter is compatible with a wide range of Windows PCs, starting from Windows 7 and going up to the latest release of Windows 10. It uses the same wireless technology as the Cannon, requiring a dongle but giving you up to 100 ft (30 meters) of range.

Logitech Professional Presenter R800

The Logitech R800 Professional Presenter has a couple of features we’ve seen before, but are happy to see included. It’s got the timed vibration feature, which we found to be a little easier to use than the Canon model. The timer is set from the included features, and gives you a ton of control over how and when the timer goes off. You can set different types of vibrations for different alarms. For example, short pulses can signify an impending time limit, or long ones can remind you to move on to the next slide.

Another great feature of this remote is the same high powered green laser pointer we liked so much. Once you use such a bright pointer it’s unlikely that you’ll want to go back to the basic model.

Which Wireless Remote Presenter is Right for Me?

Not sure which one is right for your business? For most users, we’re recommend the Canon PR10-G . This remote is fully compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, and gives you plentiful controls and a powerful laser.

You might also want to consider the Logitech R800 Professional Presenter . This model adds a powerful timing system that lets you make the most of the built-in vibration feature.

Finally, there will be a few people who just need something simple for their presentations. In this case, you can’t go wrong with the Kensington Wireless Presenter . It’s affordable, easy to use, and reliable. If this is all you need, there is no sense is spending money on a high-end model.

2 thoughts on “Guide to the Best Wireless Presenters (Presentation Remotes) for 2023”

I am seeking a presenter which is compatible with Corel software on a PC running Windows 10. I will appreciate any comments or suggestions. Thank you.

Thank you for the great reviews. I am currently using a Kensington Presenter Pro that has been good for me for quite some time now. I like the size and the button layouts; the range is wonderful; and the green laser is plenty bright. That all said, the one thing that drives me mad is the clicking sounds of the buttons. How on earth did the design team feel this was okay. During a quiet part of a presentation when I’m not talking, but still advancing slides, this is completely distracting.

You did not happen to mention if any of these above have silent ‘soft touch’ buttons. I think the Canon might, but not sure. Can you please confirm which ones do and which ones don’t.

Thank you. Cheers! Kevin

Features To Consider

Choosing the right presentation clicker is crucial to ensure a smooth and seamless presentation experience. To make an informed decision, it is important to consider various features that can enhance your presentation. Here are the key features you should focus on:

The range of a presentation clicker refers to the distance at which it can accurately transmit signals to control your slides. A larger range gives you the freedom to move around the stage or the room without losing control. Look for a clicker with a long range, such as 100 feet or more, to eliminate any potential limitations.

Compatibility

Compatibility is another vital aspect to consider when selecting a presentation clicker. Ensure that the clicker you choose is compatible with the software you use for your presentations. Most clickers are designed to work seamlessly with popular presentation software like Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, or Google Slides. Additionally, check whether the clicker supports both Windows and Mac operating systems to prevent any compatibility issues.

Battery Life

Battery life is a crucial factor that can impact the longevity of your presentation. You don’t want your clicker to run out of power in the middle of an important presentation. Look for a clicker with a long battery life, preferably one that can last for several presentations without needing a recharge or battery replacement. Additionally, consider whether the clicker uses standard or rechargeable batteries, depending on your preference.

If you want to take your presentations to the next level, having a reliable presentation clicker is essential. There is no doubt that the best wireless presenters can help you spice up your presentation by improving your delivery and time management. There are however a few things that you need to keep in mind when looking for a wireless presenter remote, including:

  • Power: Most wireless presenters will either be rechargeable or use a battery. You need a clicker that makes good use of the battery power by automatically sleeping when not in use. Those that have LCD displays should make it easy to easily tell the battery levels even in the midst of a presentation.
  • Pointer: Think of how you are going to use your clicker. If you are mostly giving presentations in a classroom a red laser pointer might be adequate to point at whiteboards, but if you regularly host business meetings and share presentations on screen you need strong green pointer.
  • Range: What are your movement needs? If you typically give presentations in larger spaces and you like to move around, you need to go for clickers that have a good wireless control range.
  • Compatibility: Do not assume that all clickers are compatible with all operating systems. Make sure your preferred wireless remote presenter can work on your device. Check if it is a plug-and-play device, or if you will need to download software to use it.
  • Design: You need to keep this in mind when choosing your wireless presenter. How are the keys arranged? Are they easy to use? Does it have an ergonomic design that’s comfortable to hold?

What is a Presentation Remote

Presentation remotes are truly helpful gadgets for people who need to make presentations or reports quite often. This compact digital device allows you to switch the slides when you wish and, therefore, to control the time for each slide. Most wireless presentation remotes have a built-in laser pointer that helps you draw the attention of the audience to a certain important aspect. If you want to make a really successful presentation, no matter if it's at school, college, or at work, a USB presentation remote is a must-have device.

If you wish to use a versatile remote for controlling several digital devices at a time, read our review of the best TV remotes and get one of them.

What Features to Compare

The first thing you should pay attention to when making a choice of a wireless presentation remote is the design. Consider the shape and the size of the pointer as well as the material it's made of. You should use the device that you will be able to hold comfortably. If the material is slippery, you might even drop the device. Also, if the remote is too big for your palm, using it won't be convenient. Also, the best gadgets have a special storage place for a USB receiver. This way, you will never lose this tiny yet indispensable peripheral. If the model you choose has no receiver storage, make sure to check if it has a special case or a bag. The best wireless presentation remotes have light indicators, informing you about such important issues as the battery charge level and the signal strength. There's another highly important aspect we are going to draw your attention to - very often we prepare files for presentations and forget to copy them to a flash drive. Has this ever happened to you? Quite likely it has! And that's why the best presentation remotes have a receiver with a slot for microSD cards. Thanks to this important feature, you can copy all your presentation files to a memory card. That's particularly handy for busy people like teachers and professors.

Next, you need to know what each wireless presentation remote can actually do. It's self-evident that slide switch is not the only option these devices can cope with. There are many other handy capabilities that will make your presentations really interesting and efficient. Many presentation remotes support a Mouse mode which allows you to control the cursor on the screen of your computer. This way you can pick the files you need, open them, as well as launch apps/videos or even click on hyperlinks. Very often the audience can't get major points of a presentation and that's why a laser pointer comes in handy too. How does it work? You just need to push the button and a laser pointer will appear on the screen, so you will be able to highlight the most important features. Many people think that the laser pointer glows red only, but this is wrong. Today, some wireless presentation remotes glow green - a green laser is brighter. Moreover, some devices feature violet or blue laser pointers but they aren't widespread yet. Finally, when you are done with the slides, you may need to switch the audience's attention from a large glowing screen to yourself. How to do it without losing time? The answer is simple - turn off the screen completely. That's why most presentation remotes have a Black Screen button that allows you to do it in the blink.

We've come to the final features that are worth you consideration. Since nearly all presentation remotes are wireless, you should know their operational range. If the computer is too far, the signal from the remote to the receiver won't be strong enough. No need to say, the range is important if you are going to make presentations in large premises. If it's just a small conference room in your office, the range won't be important. Also, don't forget to check which operating system a USB presentation remote is compatible with. Most of them are compatible with Windows (usually, all versions are supported, though Windows 10 might be a trouble for certain dongles), but if you make lots of presentations and, thus, need to use different kinds of computers, choose the remote compatible with Mac OS as well. Some devices can also work with Linux and Android-operated computers. In the end, check what power source every device uses. As usual, it's either a built-in battery or 1-2 AAA batteries. The batteries can be replaced quickly but if a remote has a built-in battery, it should be charged in advance.

Best Presentation Remotes

Kensington Expert Wireless Presenter

This red laser pointer also lets you control the cursor and easily go between slides.

The red laser is clear, even on bright projection screens. Cursor control joystick lets you get more interactive without sitting at the screen. Works up to 150 feet away from the USB-receiver. Includes a carrying case for taking on the go.

Some buyers report issues working with Mac OS.

Kensington Wireless Presenter w/Laser Pointer

Ergonomic feel and 60-foot range are great, but software compatibility can be lacking.

Feels great in the hand and is easy to use. A strong laser pointer and long battery life with easy-to-spot buttons, a simple interface, and a USB dongle with 60 feet of range. Great option for those who need something quick and intuitive.

Real picky about what presentation software it will work well with.

Logitech Spotlight Presentation Remote

A simple remote with an impressive range of features without a tedious setup and buttons.

The pointer highlights and magnifies on screen for great details. The cursor control is easy-to-use. Rumbling timer lets you know when you're hitting the end. Works with USB receiver or Bluetooth. Great for remote presentations and lectures.

Some buyers find charging port awkward and buttons cheap.

Logitech Wireless Presentation Remote

There's no learning curve when using this presentation remote thanks to its smart use of features.

This Logitech presenter remote comes with just five buttons so it's super easy to use. The bright red laser pointer is intuitive and allows users to see against most backgrounds from quite far away. Has a wireless range of up to 50 feet.

The laser pointer has failed for a few purchasers.

ELISWEEN Wireless Presenter Remote with Volume Control

Versatile and easy to use, the lack of software to learn makes this device a great choice.

You'll love the versatility of this 2-in-1 wireless remote with volume control. Freely switch between USB and type-C ports. Uses two AAA batteries. Easily advance slides, reduce video volume, highlight text with the red pointer, and more.

Buyers wish that it was rechargeable as you have to remember to bring replacement batteries.

Buying guide for best presentation remotes.

Updated March 2024

The digital revolution has left an indelible mark on the world of presentations. PowerPoint and similar software programs give us visual aids that become the focal points during lectures and conferences. Enter the presentation remote, a speaker’s solution to cutting the cord. With a presentation remote, a presenter is free to work the room instead of being cloistered behind a computer during key discussions.

Presentation remotes solve a logistic problem for speakers, especially in larger rooms and auditoriums. Wireless control is freeing, and with a laser pointer in hand, a presenter can speak from a distance while guiding the audience with a focal point. Whether you’re an educator or keynote speaker, investing in a presentation remote is a must. We examined the best presentation remotes to help you decide which one is on-point with your public speaking needs.

best presentation clicker 2023

Key considerations

Battery type.

Presentation remotes are powered by either alkaline or rechargeable batteries. A remote that takes alkaline batteries will likely require one to four AAA batteries.

Presentation remotes with rechargeable batteries power up quickly and hold a charge for several hours. Keep in mind that these batteries aren’t removable or docked to an external device. You simply plug in the cord into an available USB hub .

If you’re leaning toward a remote that requires alkaline batteries but want the perks of a rechargeable remote, you could split the difference and invest in rechargeable batteries . They cost more than alkaline ones, but the investment pays off long-term with fewer battery purchases.

Consider the spaces where you’ll deliver presentations. Some remotes have very limited ranges of between 30 and 50 feet. These are better suited for classrooms and small conference rooms. For auditoriums and halls with a lot of square footage to cover, consider a presentation remote with a range between 100 and 300 feet.

USB receiver size

The USB receiver comes in a variety of sizes. Some are only millimeters in width; others are the size of a regular thumb drive. Many presentation remotes are designed to have the receiver pop into the handheld device itself. It usually clicks into place, so it’s secure during storage. Other USB receivers are completely separate pieces, safely kept in a case with the remote after use.

Compatibility

Some presentation remotes are designed to be compatible only with specific devices and software. Others boast blanket compatibility, citing compatibility with the oldest and newest technology in the presentation space. The latter is an attractive feature if you’re a traveling speaker who can’t always predict what will be in the room when you arrive.

best presentation clicker 2023

Color doesn’t play a huge role in presentation remotes, although there are some models that go beyond the rudimentary black and gray. For the most part, they’re monochromatic with occasional color pops on buttons and logos. Color accents of silver, gray, and white are usually contrast colors to indicate where the buttons are and in some cases, what they do.

Laser pointer

The laser pointer is another standard feature. Unlike other buttons on the remote, this one has to stay pressed to beam in most models. This design element is also a safety feature, as lasers should be used with discretion; you wouldn’t want to accidentally shine it in someone’s eyes or in their line of vision. Laser colors are either red or green. While some say green is easier to see than red, laser color is a matter of preference.

The placement, design, and responsibilities of the buttons vary between models.

Some presentation remotes have a D-pad (directional pad), a recognizable four-way button seen on video game controllers and TV and DVD remotes. The D-pad will either be a single button that moves in different directions or a series of slightly spaced individual buttons. The left and right buttons most often control slide commands (for example, go back or move to the next slide). The up and down buttons take on different responsibilities depending on the model; they may control the blank screen command, scroll through a screen, or turn on the laser pointer.

Power switch

The power switch has the most thoughtful placement on presentation remotes. Since no one wants a presentation to come to a screeching halt with technical difficulties, it’s usually neatly tucked away in a place with the least amount of hand contact. For some models, it’s on the side; for others, it’s on the back.

Blank screen

The blank screen button varies quite a bit between models, but it generally remains in the same location. It’s either part of a D-pad setup or situated close to the D-pad as an independent button.

In some models, there is a separate button to initiate a connection between the remote and computer. Other models simply connect as soon as they’re turned on.

Presentation remote prices

Presentation remotes typically cost less than $100, so if it’s something you plan to use on a regular basis, the price is palatable.

On the low end, there are presentation remotes between $10 and $25. These tend to be made with lower-quality materials and components and may not be as reliable as their pricier counterparts. Between $25 and $90, you’ll find better-performing models with a focus on ergonomic design. Products in this range are also compatible with more devices and software. There are some presentation remotes over the $90 mark, and these integrate other technology into their design. For example, the remote may also serve as a mouse , or it might have programmable functions.

  • Remember your USB receiver. Once your presentation concludes, be sure to remove the USB receiver from the computer right away. Set a timer on your watch or phone as a reminder to take it before you leave the room.
  • Double-check your presentation. Make sure there are no issues between your presentation remote and your computer. Arrive early to the lecture hall or conference room to leave time for setup.
  • Keep your presentation remote in a case. If it didn’t come with a case, invest in a compact, padded one to keep the remote protected inside your bag or briefcase .
  • Clean your hands before use. Use your presentation remote with clean hands to keep dirt away from accumulating between buttons. Hand sanitizer can remove excess residue in a pinch if you don’t have time to wash your hands.
  • Keep spare batteries on hand . Be prepared with an extra set of batteries in your bag. While many people have spare phone chargers, sometimes it’s harder to locate batteries when you need them right away.

Other products we considered

Because so many models of presentation remotes share the same features — and even similar shapes and designs — we took a special look at some remotes outside the norm. The DinoFire Wireless Finger Ring USB PowerPoint Presentation Clicker breaks from the handheld tradition and wraps itself conveniently around your pointer finger. It’s rechargeable, taking only one hour to charge and lasting for seven days. Periods of low activity kick off its sleep mode, so this futuristic presentation remote-ring is a top battery-saving and space-saving option.

For time-conscious speakers, the Doosl Wireless Presenter Laser Pointer Green PowerPointer Clicker Remote LCD Display with Timer is essential. This model has a green LCD display that is programmable with vibrating alerts to help you keep time. It has a 300-foot wireless range thanks to a top-grade microchip, so it’s an ideal pick for speakers who like to move around in a large auditorium.

Q. My presentation has moving text and images on each slide. Can I control those features with my presentation remote? A. It depends less on the remote and more on how you design your presentation. For example, a plain PowerPoint presentation will move to the next slide with a single click. If your presentation has moving images or text, each one requires a single click to progress. After all interactive parts of the slide are completed, a final click transitions to the next slide.

Q. I’m left-handed. Are some remotes easier to use than others? A. Most of the presentation remotes on the market have axial symmetry, which means you can reach buttons just as easily holding it in the left hand as the right. For remotes with a side power switch, it’s usually located on the left lateral side. If you’re concerned about accidentally hitting it during use, opt for a remote with the switch on the back.

Q.  Because my presentation remote is wireless, do I need to worry about any other device interference? A. Sometimes there is interference or interruptions during use if your USB receiver is plugged into a computer with other wireless devices, like a wireless keyboard . You could disconnect them temporarily in settings or manually remove their USB receivers during your presentation.

Q. My presentation remote worked fine at home, but I can’t get it to work in this room/auditorium. Now what do I do? A. If there is someone technical in the room who can help, hopefully they can resolve the issue. If not, call for IT assistance. While you’re waiting for them to arrive, try the USB receiver in another computer. You can also try one in another room to determine whether the issue is the computer or the remote itself.

Important Presentation Skills for Workplace Success

  • What Are Presentation Skills?

Steps To Create a Presentation

Skills that help make an effective presentation, how to make your skills stand out.

xavierarnau / Getty Images

Whether you’re a high-level executive or an administrative assistant, developing your presentation skills is one key way to climb in an office-based job. Leaders make decisions based on information shared in presentation format, and hardly any business changes its mind without first seeing a persuasive presentation.

It is important for any office employee to know what steps go into creating an effective presentation and what presentation skills are most important to employers. Highlighting these skills will also help you stand out during your job search.

Key Takeaways

  • Presentation skills are what you need to know to be able to give an engaging, effective presentation.
  • The steps to creating a successful presentation are preparation, delivery, and follow-up.
  • Employers want to know you have the necessary skills to research, analyze, and create a presentation, plus the communication skills needed to deliver it and field questions afterward.
  • You can highlight your skills to employers through your resume, cover letter, and interview.

What Are Presentation Skills?

Presentation skills refer to all the qualities you need to create and deliver a clear and effective presentation. While what you say during a presentation matters, employers also value the ability to create supporting materials, such as slides.

Your prospective employer may want you to deliver briefings and reports to colleagues, conduct training sessions, present information to clients, or perform any number of other tasks that involve speaking before an audience.

Giving engaging and easy-to-understand talks is a major component of the strong  oral communication skills  that are a  job requirement  for many positions. Not all presentations take place in a formal meeting. Many presentation skills are relevant to one-on-one consults or sales calls.

Any presentation has three phases: preparation, delivery, and follow-up. All presentation skills fit into one of these three phases.

Preparation

Preparation involves research and building the presentation. Consider the audience you'll be presenting to and what most interests them. This may mean crafting the entire text (or at least writing notes) and creating any slides and other supporting audio/visual materials.

You will also have to make sure that the appropriate venue is available, properly set up beforehand, and ensure the projector (if you'll need one) works and connects with your laptop.

You'll also want to practice your presentation as many times as you need to to feel comfortable delivering it with ease and confidence within the time allotted for the presentation.

Skills related to preparation include conducting research related to your presentation topic, devising charts and graphs depicting your research findings, and learning about your audience to better tailor your presentation to their needs. You'll also need to create digital slides, using statistics, examples, and stories to illustrate your points and effectively to persuade the audience.

Preparing handouts or digital references is an added courtesy that will help the audience pay attention because they won't be preoccupied with note-taking.

Your delivery is the part of the presentation that the audience sees. A good delivery depends on careful preparation and confident presentation and requires its own distinctive  skill set .

Skills related to delivery include giving an attention-grabbing opening for a talk, providing a summary of what will be covered to introduce the presentation and provide context, and using  body language  and eye contact to convey energy and confidence.

Make sure you pause to emphasize key points, modulate your vocal tone for emphasis, and articulate your speech clearly and smoothly.

Don't be afraid of injecting humor or speaking with enthusiasm and animation—these techniques can help you in projecting confidence to your audience.

Summarize key points at the conclusion of the presentation, and be sure to have a plan for how you'll field any audience questions.

Presentation follow-up includes properly breaking down and storing any equipment, contacting any audience members with whom you agreed to communicate further, and soliciting, collecting, and analyzing feedback.

In some presentations, you may collect information from audience members—such as names and contact information or completed surveys—that you also must organize and store.

Skills related to follow-up include creating an evaluation form to solicit feedback from attendees, interpreting feedback from evaluations, and modifying the content and/or delivery for future presentations. Other follow-up skills include organizing a database of attendees for future presentations, interviewing key attendees to gain additional feedback, and emailing presentation slides to attendees.

To create and deliver the most effective presentation takes a variety of skills, which you can always work to improve.

You must be able to look honestly at your performance, assess the feedback you get, and figure out what you need to do to get better. That takes  analytical thinking .

More importantly, you need to have a firm grasp of the information you are about to communicate to others. You need to analyze your audience and be prepared to think quickly if asked questions that force you to demonstrate that you are fully aware of the material and its implications.

The kind of analytical skills you need to be an effective presenter include problem sensitivity, problem-solving , reporting and surveying, optimization, and predictive modeling. It also helps to be adept at strategic planning, integration, process management, and diagnostics. With these skills, you'll be better able to objectively analyze, evaluate, and act on your findings.

Organization

You do not want to be the person who spends half of their presentation time trying to find a cable to connect their laptop to the projector. Many things can and do go wrong just before a presentation unless you are  organized .

Presentation preparation also means keeping track of notes, information, and start/stop times. You will want to proofread and fine-tune all the materials you plan to use for the presentation to catch any mistakes. Make sure you time yourself when you rehearse so you know how long it will take to deliver the presentation.

A presentation that's finished in half the time allotted is as problematic as one that's too long-winded.

Some key organizational skills to work on include event planning, auditing, benchmarking, prioritization, and recordkeeping. Make sure your scheduling is on point and pay close attention to detail. Quick thinking is an important skill to have for when things inevitably go wrong.

Nonverbal Communication

When speaking to an audience, the way you present yourself can be just as important as how you present your information. You want to appear confident and engaging. You can do this through good posture, the use of hand gestures, and making eye contact with the audience.

Practice your  nonverbal communication  by filming yourself doing a practice presentation and observing your body language carefully. Your physical bearing and poise should convey a degree of comfort and confidence in front of an audience, while active listening , respect, and emotional intelligence will help you in facilitating group discussions.

Presentation Software

Microsoft PowerPoint is the dominant software used to create visual aids for presentations. Learn to use it well, including the special features outside of basic templates that can really bring a presentation to life. Even if someone else is preparing your slideshow for you, it will help to know how to use the software in case of last-minute changes.

Other software that is good to learn includes Microsoft Office, Apple Keynote, Google Slides, and Adobe Presenter.

Public Speaking

You need to appear comfortable and engaging when speaking before a live audience, even if you're not. This can take years of practice, and sometimes  public speaking  just isn't for certain people. An uncomfortable presenter is a challenge for everyone. Fortunately, public speaking skills can improve with practice . Some skills to work on include articulation, engagement, and memorization. You should be able to assess the needs of the audience and handle difficult questions. Controlling your performance anxiety will help you communicate more effectively.

Research is the first step in preparing most presentations and could range from a multi-year process to spending 20 minutes online, depending on context and subject matter. At the very least, you must be able to clearly frame research questions, identify appropriate information sources, and organize your results. Other useful skills include brainstorming, collaboration , comparative analysis, data interpretation, and deductive and inductive reasoning. Business intelligence is a skill that will help you evaluate what information you need to support the bottom line, while case analysis and causal relationships will help you parse and evaluate meaning.

Verbal Communication

Public speaking is one form of  verbal communication , but you will need other forms to give a good presentation. Specifically, you must know how to answer questions. You should be able to understand questions asked by your audience (even if they're strange or poorly worded) and provide respectful, honest, and accurate answers without getting off-topic. Use active listening, focus, and empathy to understand your audience. Skills such as assertiveness, affirmation, and enunciation will help you restate and clarify your key points as it relates to their questions or concerns.

You may or may not need a written script, but you do need to pre-plan what you are going to say, in what order you will say it, and at what level of detail. If you can write a cohesive essay, you can plan a presentation.

Typical writing skills apply to your presentation just as they do to other forms of writing, including grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and proofreading. The ability to build outlines, take notes, and mark up documents will also be useful.

More Presentation Skills

In addition to the skills previously mentioned, there are other important skills that can apply to your presentation. The other skills you need will depend on what your presentation is about, your audience, and your intended results. Some of these additional skills include:

  • Summarizing
  • Providing anecdotes to illustrate a point
  • Designing handouts
  • Recognizing and countering objections
  • Posing probing questions to elicit more detail about specific issues
  • Awareness of ethnic, political, and religious diversity
  • Receiving criticism without defensiveness
  • Refraining from speaking too often or interrupting others
  • Anticipating the concerns of others
  • Product knowledge
  • SWOT analysis format
  • Supporting statements with evidence
  • Multilingual
  • Working with reviewers
  • Consistency
  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Developing a proposition statement
  • Creating and managing expectations

Include skills on your resume. If applicable, you might mention these words in your  resume summary  or  headline .

Highlight skills in your cover letter. Mention one or two specific presentation skills and give examples of instances when you demonstrated these traits in the workplace.

Show your presentation skills in job interviews. During the interview process, you may be asked to give a sample presentation. In this case, you will want to embody these skills during the presentation. For example, you will want to demonstrate your oral communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely throughout the presentation.

Knowing about the best presentation clickers is half of the information you need to purchase one. There are a few factors which you must bear in mind while choosing a suitable presentation remote. Below are some criteria that need to be considered when purchasing one.

How To Choose The Right Presentation Clicker?

The wireless control range offered by presentation remotes differ based on their model and make. When choosing a presentation clicker, it is crucial to gauge the room’s size in which the wireless presenter will be used. Some presenters usually have a connectivity range of 30 to 50 ft, while others have longer ranges of 100 to 300 ft.

  • Battery type

Presenter remotes rely on either AA or AAA batteries. Some require 2-batteries, while others are more power-efficient and require a single battery. Certain presenter remotes come with rechargeable batteries that last for prolonged periods on a single charge. In situations of continuous usage, you should purchase one with rechargeable batteries.

  • Compatibility

There are 2 factors to consider regarding wireless presentation remote compatibility – compatibility with the software and compatibility with the operating system. Most models are plug-and-play devices that require no added software installation. It is best to purchase one that requires no additional drivers.

  • Laser pointer

Almost all presenters are equipped with laser pointers. This is because it has become an indispensable part of a wireless presentation remote. When choosing a presenter remote, it is ideal to keep in mind the distance of the laser or beam.  The most common colors are green and red. While red remains to be a popular choice among consumers, green is a color that is noticeable on almost all colored slides.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will my presentation clicker work on a Mac and a TV?

While most are compatible with Windows and macOS, there are a few that may not work on macOS. Since a television screen is just a display output, if it is supported by the system software, it will run on a TV.

2. What color laser is best for a presentation pointer?

The two most popular colors are green and red. While red offers great visibility, a green laser pointer can be easier to see against some slides. This is why most professionals prefer using a remote clicker with a green laser pointer.

3. Isn’t it easier to download an app to my phone to control the presentation?

No, it isn’t. While it may seem like an easier and cost-saving alternative, it may not function as intended. Firstly, your phone will lack the tactile feel of dedicated buttons, and secondly, it may not function effectively when at a distance from the receiver.

4. Is it easy to control a presentation with a remote?

Yes, a presentation remote makes it easy to operate and control the slides in a presentation. In addition, using a remote doesn’t require you to ask for external help or stay near the laptop to change the slides.

5. Does a presentation remote need batteries?

Yes, most presentation remotes work on two AAA batteries, and some include a rechargeable battery for seamless operation.

6. Are laser pointers good for presentations?

Laser pointers help you point out important points on the slides during the presentation. This allows you to move around as you speak and helps the audience focus on that particular point you are talking about.

These days, Microsoft is all about enhancing your workflow with handy productivity-focused software and accessories, and its new Presenter+ remote embodies that philosophy very much so. I love gadgets are that designed for specific use cases, and while it’s certainly not the first of its kind, the Presenter+ is elegant, sleek, and easy to set up and use.

I've been using the Presenter+ for a little over two weeks to conduct presentations and enhance Teams meetings. Here's my review!

Microsoft Presenter+: Price & Availability

Microsoft Presenter+

The Microsoft Presenter+ is available directly from the Microsoft Store or Amazon and has a retail price of $80. Here are the specs of the product:

Microsoft Presenter+: Design

Microsoft Presenter+

The Presenter+ features a clean, elegant design that looks good on your desk and discreet in your hand. It's small, lightweight, and feels great to hold thanks to its premium smooth plastic enclosure. The buttons are tactile and easy to press and have a satisfying click to them.

The buttons themselves consist of a large circular mute button at the top, followed by two smaller left and right navigation buttons below it, a pill-shaped "presenting laser" button below those, and a large circular Teams button at the bottom. On the back are a power toggle and Bluetooth pair button.

The back of the remote is covered in a slightly grippy texture, which makes it slightly easier to hold and reduces its ability to slide around on your desk when not in the charging dock. There's also a small Microsoft logo on the back, just below an indented area to rest your finger in as you hold the device.

On the bottom is a USB-C port flanked by two silver prongs, used for charging with the included charging dock. The charging dock itself is a nice inclusion, connected to a USB-A cable that plugs into your computer to supply power. The USB-C port on the remote can also be used for charging.

Microsoft Presenter+: Features

Microsoft Presenter+

The Presenter+ includes several different features and modes, all designed to enhance your experience when presenting PowerPoint presentations or partaking in Teams meetings. We'll start with the presentation features, which unsurprisingly are a highlight for this remote.

This remote includes a built-in virtual laser function, which can be used to point at and highlight areas of a screen being used to present content. The virtual laser can be used anywhere, in any app by simply holding the laser button and pointing at your screen.

It uses a built-in gyroscope to track the location of the remote, and relatively accurately display the laser where you'd expect it to be. It works very similarly to how LG's Magic Remote works on its TVs, with the ability to point the remote at the screen and use it as a mouse.

The laser button, when paired with the navigation buttons above it, makes for an all-in-one solution for presenting PowerPoint slides on a stage, or even virtually in Microsoft Teams. The only frustrating thing about the laser pointer is that you can't actually click on things with it. Within Windows, you can use it to highlight things, but if you want to click OK on a prompt, you can't.

Microsoft Presenter+

The remote can also be used as a microphone toggle with the dedicated mute button along the top. This is great for scenarios where you might find yourself walking around a small office while in a meeting, with other colleagues interrupting you in person every so often.

Now, there's no microphone built-in to the remote, so you can't use it as an on-the-go toggle mic, but the mute button will act as a toggle for whatever mic is built-in to the device you have it connected to.

Lastly, the Presenter+ features a vibration motor for tactile signals, which buzz when a Teams meeting starts, you mute or unmute your mic, when the battery is low, and even when you raise and lower your hand. Yes, the remote also functions as a way of raising your hand virtually in Teams meetings. Pretty cool.

Microsoft Presenter+: Customization

Many of the functions and features of the Presenter+ remote can be configured, which means you can dial in how you want to use the remote to your personal taste. For example, you can choose to use the microphone button as a toggle, switching between muted and unmuted states with a click, or use it as a push-to-talk button, only unmuting the mic when the button is held down.

The laser feature can also be customized, including the ability to change the size and color of the laser pointer itself. You can also configure the sensitivity of the gyro, which is great if you find the remote isn't doing a good job of tracking the laser pointer on the screen out of the box.

You can even customize the strength of the tactility motor, increasing or decreasing its strength to suit your preference. You can also turn on and off which features present tactile signals, so if you didn't want it to vibrate when you mute or unmute your mic, you can turn that off.

All of these features can be customized using Microsoft's well-put-together Accessory Center app, which is automatically installed when you pair the remote to a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC for the first time. The app also includes the ability to "find my remote" by buzzing the vibration motor inside it if you ever lose it.

Microsoft Presenter+: Competition

Logitech R400 Clicker

There are countless clicker devices out there on the market that allow you to control a PowerPoint presentation, and some of them even have actual laser point pointers built in. Peripherals such as the Logitech Presenter R400 , which uses its own wireless receiver for functionality, can be had for just $32. But it doesn't come with any customization software or integration with Microsoft Teams.

There's also the DinoFire Wireless Presenter , which just like the Logitech, uses its own RF receiver for functionality, and a built-in level 2 laser. But again, no Microsoft Teams integration. And that's going to be the big differentiator between other clickers and the Microsoft Presenter+.

The Microsoft Presenter+ offers a virtual laser, in-depth Microsoft Teams integration, a wide array of customizable settings, and even a haptic motor. You're not going to find those things on other clickers on the market.

Microsoft Presenter+ Should you buy

Microsoft Presenter+

The Microsoft Presenter+ is an excellent peripheral, but only if you find yourself presenting PowerPoint presentations on a regular basis. For everyone else, I don't think it's a necessary investment, as it's pretty easy to navigate a PowerPoint slide without a dedicated accessory.

With that said, the Presenter+ is really only for the people who want or need to look professional on a stage or virtually. They won't want to be seen walking back to a laptop on the corner of the stage to advance to the next slide. They want to stay in their flow and present the next slide as they talk to their audience.

If that's you, then you simply can't go wrong with the Presenter+. The other integrations with Teams are a nice addition, such as raising the remote to raise your hand in the meeting and using the mic button as a toggle.

Microsoft Presenter+

The Microsoft Presenter+ is an excellent peripheral for public speakers or team members who find themselves on stage (in person or virtually) in front of a PowerPoint presentation on a regular basis.

Even standard PowerPoint alternatives have updated key features to make it easier than ever to collaborate and create presentations quickly, so you can spend more time prepping for your actual presentation.

If, like me, you've used Google Slides unquestioningly for years, it's a whole new world out there. The newest crop of online presentation tools go way beyond the classic slideshow experience, with new features to keep your audience's attention, streamline the creation process with AI, and turn slide decks into videos and interactive conversations.

I've been testing these apps for the past few years, and this time, I spent several days tinkering with 25 of the top presentation software solutions out there to bring you the best of the best.

Prezi for non-linear, conversational presentations

What makes the best presentation app?

How we evaluate and test apps.

Our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. Unless explicitly stated, we spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site—we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog .

When looking for the best presentation apps, I wanted utility players. After all, slideshows are used for just about everything, from pitch decks and product launches to class lectures and church sermons. With that in mind, here's what I was looking for:

Pre-built templates. The best presentation tools should have attractive, professional-looking templates to build presentations in a hurry.

Sharing and collaboration options. Whether you plan to share your webinar slides later, or you just want to collaborate with a coworker on a presentation, it should be easy to share files and collaborate in real-time.

Flexibility and customization options. Templates are great, but top presentation apps should enable you to customize just about everything—giving you the flexibility to build exactly what you need.

Affordability. Creating compelling presentations is important, but you shouldn't have to bust your budget to make it happen. With capable free tools on the market, affordability is a top consideration.

Standalone functionality. There's no reason to use multiple tools when one can do it all, so I didn't test any apps that require and work on top of another presentation app like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Familiar, deck-based interface. For our purposes here, I only tested software that uses slides, with the familiar deck-based editor you expect from a "presentation" tool (versus, for example, a video creation app).

While most apps now offer AI features in one way or another, it isn't a universal feature yet—and some apps' AI features leave a lot to be desired. For that reason, I opted not to make AI features a strict must-have for this year (though it probably will be a requirement next time I update the article). That means I've still included some apps that don't offer AI—if you opt for one of those, you can still easily get AI-generated images and text from a separate tool and copy them into your presentation app of choice.

Beyond that, I also looked for presentation apps that brought something unique to the table—features above and beyond what you can get for free from a legacy solution like PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Here's what my testing workflow looked like:

I went through any onboarding or guided tutorials.

I created a new deck, scanning through all available templates, noting how well-designed they were (and which were free versus paid).

I added new slides, deleted slides, edited text and images, and played around with other content types.

I changed presentation design settings, like color schemes and background images.

I reviewed and tested the sharing and collaboration options.

I tested out presenter view (when available).

After my first round of testing, I went back into the top performers to test any unique or niche features, like AI, brand settings, and interactive content. With that, these are the best presentation apps I found—each one really brings something different or radically easy to the table.

The best presentation software at a glance

The best free presentation software, canva (web, windows, mac, android, ios).

Canva, our pick for the best free presentation app

Canva pros:

Excellent free plan

Tons of amazing templates for all use cases

Feature-rich

Canva cons:

The AI tools aren't groundbreakingly useful

Canva offers one of the most robust free plans of all the presentation apps I tested. The app delays account creation until after you've created your first design, so you can get started building your presentation in seconds. Choose from an almost overwhelming number of beautiful templates (nearly all available for free), including those designed specifically for education or business use cases.

Anyone who's accidentally scrolled too far and been bumped to the next slide will appreciate Canva's editor interface, which eliminates that problem altogether with a smooth scroll that doesn't jump around. Choose from a handful of preset animations to add life to your presentations, or browse the library of audio and video files available to add. And Canva also has a number of options for sharing your presentation, including adding collaborators to your team, sharing directly to social media, and even via QR code.

Present directly from Canva, and let audience members submit their questions via Canva Live. Once you share a link to invite audience members to your presentation, they can send questions for you to answer. As the presenter, you'll see them pop up in your presenter view window, so you can keep the audience engaged and your presentation clear. Alternatively, record a presentation with a talking head bubble—you can even use an AI presenter here—to share remotely.

Canva has added a number of AI-powered tools , but I wasn't super impressed by them yet. The Magic Design tool, for example, isn't much more useful than the many pre-designed templates already available, while Magic Write is basically just white-labeled ChatGPT. These features will likely improve in time, but for now, you're better off starting from one of Canva's many great templates.

Canva pricing: Free plan available; paid plans start at $120/year for 1 user and include additional features like Brand Kit, premium templates and stock assets, and additional AI-powered design tools.

If you're looking for a capable free presentation tool with a more affordable upgrade, Zoho Show is worth a look. It's completely free for most features, offers a clean, intuitive editor, and includes a number of great templates. Plus, you can automate Zoho Show by connecting it with Zapier .

The best presentation app for AI-powered design

Beautiful.ai (web, mac, windows).

Beautiful.ai pros:

True AI design

No fussing around with alignment

Still allows for customization

Beautiful.ai cons:

No free plan

If you're like me, editing granular spacing issues is the absolute worst part of building a presentation. Beautiful.ai uses artificial intelligence to take a lot of the hassle and granular design requirements out of the presentation process, so you can focus on the content of a presentation without sacrificing professional design. If I needed to make presentations on a regular basis, this is the app I'd use.

Many apps have recently added AI design features, but Beautiful.ai has been doing it for years—and they've perfected the experience of AI design, ensuring the tool's reign as the most streamlined and user-friendly option for AI design.

The editor is a little different from most presentation apps, but it's still intuitive—and you'll start off with a quick two-minute tutorial. When creating a new slide, scroll through "inspiration slides" to find a layout you like; once you choose, the app will pull the layout and automatically adapt it to match the design of the rest of your presentation.

With 10 themes, several templated slides, over 40 fully-designed templates, and more than 20 different color palettes to choose from, Beautiful.ai strikes a perfect balance between automation and customization.

While Beautiful.ai doesn't offer a free plan, paid plans are reasonably priced and offer sharing and collaboration options that rival collab-focused apps like Google Slides. And speaking of Google, you can connect Beautiful.ai with Google Drive to save all your presentations there.

Note: I re-tested the generative AI feature (called DesignerBot) this year. It's great for adding individual slides to an existing presentation—automatically choosing the best layout and matching the design to the rest of the deck—but as with most other apps, it struggled to pull in relevant images.

Beautiful.ai pricing: Plans start at $12/month for unlimited slides, AI content generation, viewer analytics, and more. Upgrade to a Team plan for $40/user/month to get extra collaboration and workspace features and custom brand controls.

If you're a founder looking for an AI presentation tool for your pitch deck, Slidebean is a great Beautiful.ai alternative for startups. The app offers a number of templates; a unique, content-first outline editor; and a generative AI tool that builds a whole pitch deck based on your website. I didn't include it on the list mainly because of the price: the free plan is quite limited, and the paid all-access plan can only be billed annually.

The best presentation app for conversational presentations

Prezi (web, mac, windows, ios, android).

Prezi pros:

Doesn't restrict you to standard presentation structure

Lots of customization options

Prezi Video lets you display a presentation right over your webcam video

Prezi cons:

Steep learning curve

Struggling to squeeze information into a basic, linear presentation? Give Prezi a try. Unlike nearly all other presentation apps on the market, Prezi Present doesn't restrict the structure of your presentation to a straight line. The editor focuses on topics and subtopics and allows you to arrange them any way you want, so you can create a more conversational flow of information.

With the structural flexibility, you still get all the same customization features you expect from top presentation software, including fully-editable templates. There's a learning curve if you're unfamiliar with non-linear presentations, but templates offer a great jumping-off point, and Prezi's editor does a good job of making the process more approachable.

Plus, Prezi comes with two other apps: Prezi Design and Prezi Video. Prezi Video helps you take remote presentations to a new level. You can record a video where the presentation elements are displayed right over your webcam feed. Record and save the video to share later, or connect with your video conferencing tool of choice (including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet) to present live.

Prezi's generative AI feature works ok, but it's more useful as a wireframe. When I asked it to create a presentation about the Stanley Cup Playoffs, for example, the resulting content read a lot like a student writing a term paper in the broadest strokes possible to avoid doing any actual research.

Prezi pricing: Free 14-day trial and a free plan that includes up to 5 visual projects; paid plans start at $7/month and include additional features like private presentations and Prezi Present.

The best presentation app for video presentations

Powtoon (web, ios, android).

Powtoon pros:

Timing automatically changes based on the content on the slide

Can toggle between slideshow and video

Can orient presentation as horizontal, vertical, or square

Powtoon cons:

Limited free plan

Powtoon makes it easy to create engaging videos by orienting the editor around a slide deck. Editing a Powtoon feels just like editing a presentation, but by the time you finish, you have a professional video.

You can edit your slides at any time, and when you hit play, a video plays through your deck—the feel is almost like an animated explainer video. Each slide includes the animations you choose and takes up as much time as is needed based on the content on the slide. Powtoon figures the timing automatically, and you can see in the bottom-right of the editor how much time is used on your current slide versus the total presentation. If you ever want to present as a slide deck, just toggle between Slideshow and Movie.

You'll likely need to subscribe to a paid plan to get the most out of Powtoon—like creating videos longer than three minutes, downloading them as MP4 files, and white-labeling your presentations—but doing so won't break the bank. Plus, you'll unlock tons of templates complete with animations and soundtracks.

One of my favorite Powtoon features is the ability to orient your video: you can choose horizontal orientation (like a normal presentation) or opt for vertical (for mobile) or square (for social media). When your presentation is ready, you can publish straight to YouTube, Wistia, Facebook Ads, and any number of other locations.

Powtoon pricing: Limited free plan available; paid plans start at $15/month and include white-labeling, priority support, additional storage, and more.

The best presentation app for collaborating with your team

Pitch (web, mac, windows, ios, android).

Pitch, our pick for the best presentation software for collaborating with your team

Pitch pros:

Google levels of collaboration

Assign slides to specific team members

Excellent generative AI feature

Pitch cons:

User interface is a little different than you're used to

Need to collaborate on presentations with your team? Pitch is a Google Slides alternative that gets the job done. As far as decks go, Pitch includes all the beautifully-designed templates, customizability, and ease of use you expect from a top-notch presentation tool. But the app really shines when you add your team.

The right-hand sidebar is all about project management and collaboration: you can set and update the status of your deck, assign entire presentations or individual slides to team members, plus comment or add notes. Save custom templates to make future presentations even easier and faster.

You can also invite collaborators from outside your company to work with you on individual decks. And if you opt for a paid plan, Pitch introduces workspace roles, shared private folders, and version history.

Pitch also offers one of the most impressive generative AI features on this list. It still struggles to pull in relevant images, but I found the AI-generated written content and design to be top-notch.

Pitch pricing: Free plan offers unlimited presentations, custom templates, and live video collaboration; paid plans start at $22/month for 2 users with additional workspace features, presentation analytics, and more.

The best presentation app for conversational AI

Gamma (web).

Gamma pros:

Creates fully fleshed-out presentations from a prompt

Conversational chatbot-like experience

Can still manually edit the presentation

Gamma cons:

Not as much granular customization

I tested a lot of apps claiming to use AI to up your presentation game, and Gamma's conversational AI features were head and shoulders above the crowd.

Simply give the app a topic—or upload an outline, notes, or any other document or article—approve the outline, and pick a theme. The app will take it from there and create a fully fleshed-out presentation. It's far from perfect, but Gamma produces a very useful jumping-off point. (Last year, it was by far the best, but this year, other apps are catching up.)

Here's the key: Gamma is much more geared toward the iterative, chatbot experience familiar to ChatGPT users. Click on the Edit with AI button at the top of the right-hand menu to open the chat, and you'll see suggested prompts—or you can type in your own requests for how Gamma should alter the presentation.

Once you've done all you can with prompts, simply close the chat box to manually add the finishing touches. While you do sacrifice some granular customizability in exchange for the AI features, you can still choose your visual theme, change slide layouts, format text, and add any images, videos, or even app and web content.

Gamma pricing: Free plan includes unlimited users, 400 AI deck credits, and basic view analytics; upgrade to the Plus plan for $8/user/month to get unlimited AI credits, remove Gamma branding, and more.

The best presentation app for audience engagement

Mentimeter (web).

Mentimeter, our pick for the best presentation software for audience engagement

Mentimeter pros:

Tons of audience engagement features

Simple for participants to interact

Mentimeter cons:

Less granular customizability

Bit of a learning curve

If you need to engage with an audience during your presentation, Mentimeter makes that easy. The app is designed around interactive elements like quizzes, surveys, Q&As, sliders, and more (even a Miro whiteboard!).

Each of these is included in a number of different, professional-looking templates, so you can build a fully interactive presentation super quickly.

When it's time to present, your audience members can scan the QR code with their phone cameras or type in the URL and access code to participate. There's one code per presentation (so they won't have to do this on every slide), which gives access to each slide as you move through the presentation.

There are two main drawbacks to this one, though. First, there's a bit of a learning curve and less familiar editing interface (but I found it pretty easy to learn with some practice). The other drawback is that you can't get as granular with the visual customization as you can with many other presentation tools.

Mentimeter pricing: Free plan includes 50 participants per month and 34 different slide types; upgrade to the Basic plan for $11.99/presenter/month to get unlimited participants and slide types, private presentations, and more.

The best presentation app for generative AI

Tome, our pick for the best presentation software for generative AI

Top-tier generative AI features

Simple, customizable templates

Intuitive doc-style editor

There's definitely a learning curve

Tome is one of the new additions to this list that I'm most excited about. If you're looking for generative AI that just genuinely works , it's definitely worth a look. The editor is a bit more stripped down than most presentation apps but intuitive nonetheless—it's almost a cross between your standard deck editor and a Notion-style doc.

To generate an AI deck, click Generate with AI in the top right, and either write your own prompt or choose from the example prompts that cover a handful of common use cases, like sales enablement and company pitches. Edit or approve the suggested outline, then generate the full presentation.

From there, you can edit each slide as a doc via the right-hand menu—without limits on how much information you can include. During the presentation, you simply size down any slides that take up more than the standard amount of space. It's super simple but somehow feels revolutionary in a presentation app.

Tome pricing: Free plan available for manual editing without AI; upgrade to the Professional plan for $16/user/month to use the generative AI and design tools, plus engagement analytics, branding tools, and more.

What about the old standbys?

You might notice a few major presentation players aren't on this list, including OGs Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, and Google Slides. These apps are perfectly adequate for creating basic presentations, and they're free if you have a Windows or Mac device or a Google account.

I didn't include them on the list because the presentation space has really developed in the last several years, and after testing them out, I found these behemoths haven't kept pace. If they weren't made by Microsoft/Apple/Google, I might not even be mentioning them. They're pretty basic tools, they're behind the curve when it comes to templates (both quantity and design), and they don't offer any uniquely valuable features like robust team collaboration, branding controls, video, and so on.

Some of these companies (think: Microsoft and Google) are openly working on some pretty impressive-sounding AI features, but they haven't really been focused on their respective presentation solutions just yet. Rest assured, I'm watching this space, and the next time we update this article, I'll re-test tools like Copilot for PowerPoint and Gemini for Google Slides to see what new features may be available.

In any case, if you're reading this, you're probably looking for an alternative that allows you to move away from one of the big 3, and as the presentation platforms featured above show, there's a ton to gain—in terms of features, usability, and more—when you do.

What about PowerPoint and Google Slides add-ons?

While I focused my testing on tools with full feature-sets—those that can serve as your sole presentation tool—there are a ton of add-on tools you can use atop big name tools like PowerPoint and Google Slides.

If you're looking to expand what you can do with PowerPoint or Google Slides, apps like Marq (formerly Lucidpress), Plus AI , Slidesgo , and Simplified can help you do things like access additional templates, save branded assets, and generate AI presentations from the app you're already using.
