The study was conducted to explore the root causes and impacts of current traffic jams and suggest an appropriate strategy to wipe out this problem of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. A mixture of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies was considered for data collection and analysis. The study shown the causes of traffic congestion of Dhaka, namely, inefficacy and poor execution rate of current traffic code of practice, existence of too many regulatory authorities, violation of traffic rules, defective planning of city roads, excessive vehicles, illegal occupancy of roads and footpaths, want of communication set-up and logistic provision, inadequacy of traffic management team and shortage of public vehicles. The mega city, Dhaka cannot afford the burden of 14.54 million people on its 815.8 sq. kilometers of land. It is lengthy in south and northern directions while its width consisting of east and western directions is few kilometers only. Traffic congestion stands as the number one problem of Dhaka city and becomes the most intolerable one for the city dwellers. All most all city dwellers are directly allied with this problem. Besides, traffic congestion leads to other problems such as air pollution, noise pollution etc. Although several research have been conducted to deal with this problem, but still people are being adversely affected by it. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the hidden causes of traffic congestion of Dhaka city as well as to shed light its overall consequences. This study is based on the survey of 400 people who were directly associated with this problem. The researchers have also drawn information from the existing literature and various reports of the Government of Bangladesh to clarify the different causes of traffic congestion and its overall effects. The major finding of the study is that there are several factors liable for traffic congestion of Dhaka city and it has adverse effects on the different socioeconomic aspects, but still these issues are not emphasized considerably to minimize it.

Traffic congestion continues to be a major challenge in urban transportation planning for big cities despite several initiatives. One of these cities plagued by excessive traffic congestion is Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh with a population of more than 22.4 million. Any urban road intersection's traffic flow has always been a complicated, nonlinear process. One of the main contributors to metropolitan traffic congestion is the overuse of private cars and rickshaws, yet neither their effects nor potential solutions have been thoroughly studied. This study looked into the main difficulties with road travel in Bangladesh, and more specifically in Dhaka. The primary data for the study was collected from the websites and other relevant data sources, for example, the road and transportation website. Secondary data was collected from journal articles, the daily newspapers of Bangladesh and other online sources. The results suggest that the main causes of road transportation problems and traffic congestion are poor management, inadequate infrastructure, ignorance, negligence to follow the traffic rules, limited use of advanced technologies and limited resources. In order to minimize the traffic conditions within its limited resources, the country needs to initiate a number of alternative solutions, for example, traffic demand control, widening the roads, providing more public buses, Non-Motorized Traffic Limitation, Minimum Parking Spaces, Construction Flyovers, Subway and using the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) along with an efficient management system. Because we want to travel great distances without stopping, the current road network will save our country from paying huge loan installments and will enhance driving behavior. This would maintain resource efficiency and enhance Dhaka's transportation infrastructure.

The economic development of a country mostly depends on the good transportation system. Development of new transportation system involve huge amount of money and time. Most of the cases the invested money is irreversible. The developing country like Bangladesh the best approach is to improvement of existing facilities we have. Pabna, one of the rising cities in Bangladesh. As a result the population in Pabna increasing day by day, so as the traffic congestion. Traffic Mor is one of the major intersection in Pabna city. In overall context Traffic Mor road intersection plays an important role in existing traffic system of the city. Traffic Mor road intersection is tee type road intersection at level. Traffic flow of this intersection is mixed traffic flow and both way is two way. In this study an attempts are made to investigate the geometric elements, traffic congestion, and traffic control devices at Traffic Mor road intersection. Possible Causes & Solutions of Traffic Jam and Their Impact on the Economy of Dhaka City

Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, is the most densely populated city in the whole world. More than twelve million people live in Dhaka city. Day by day the number is increasing and most part of Dhaka is badly affected by huge traffic jam. Faulty traffic signaling systems, inadequate manpower, narrow road spaces and overtaking tendency of drivers create pro-longed traffic congestions. Due to traffic jam a substantial portion of working hours have to be left on streets which indirectly put adverse impact on economy. It causes serious air pollution and noise pollution and thus worsens the overall environmental condition. To reduce traffic jam, government can consider construction of roads through east-west connection of Dhaka city, construction of circular embankment-cum-road along the periphery of Dhaka city, grade separated road network system, bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, and Metro-Rail system. By reducing traffic jam, this city can play a very important role by ensuring healthy environment free from noise and pollution.

POSSIBLE CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS OF THE TRAFFIC JAM IN DHAKA, BANGLADESH

Traffic jams are the biggest problem of this magnitude in the world’s densely populated cities. A lot of research is being done all over the world, and it is important. I visit some of the most populous cities in the world, like Dhaka, Delhi, Jakarta, etc. I have researched some of the possible issues that seem relevant to me and have discussed them in detail in this research paper. Here, I have mentioned what causes traffic jams. Ways to reduce traffic jams. Powerful traffic law and traffic software system. Real-life solutions, etc. The methods I mentioned are for future research. It can solve traffic jams. In this research, I have mentioned the factors that cause traffic jams in Dhaka and how they can be solved. I have discussed special software that can develop the traffic system and free a densely populated city like Dhaka from traffic jams. It will help the economies of Dhaka and Bangladesh develop more.
