Teachers' Day Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

Teachers' Day Essay - A teacher is a person who mentors and inspires others, whether young or elderly. They have the duty to inculcate values, morality, and ethics in others to raise awareness and broaden people's perspectives. Here are some sample essays on teachers day.

100 Words Essay On Teachers' Day

In the past, a teacher was referred to as a "Guru" . A guru is someone who illuminates the lives of tens of thousands of disciples. Guru translates to "a dispeller of darkness" in Sanskrit. Guru is therefore given the utmost respect and importance in Indian tradition.

A teacher's direction makes learning fun and fruitful for the student. As dutiful learners, we must all warmly welcome them and express our gratitude for their selfless contribution to educating people throughout life and influencing various students' lives. The annual celebration of Teacher's Day on September 5th gives us an excellent opportunity to spend time with teachers and express our gratitude.

Teachers' Day Essay - 100, 200, 500 Words

200 Words Essay On Teachers' Day

Teachers' contributions and efforts are always appreciated. Teacher's Day aims to recognise the contributions made by teachers. In India, we commemorate teachers' day on Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday . Radhakrishnan was a man of many admirable traits. Teachers teach young people and students how to be leaders and they cultivate young people's discipline, preparing them for the future. Teachers are perhaps the most crucial character in a student's life.

Teachers’ Day

Every year on September 5th, India celebrates Teacher's Day to recognise the contributions that teachers have made to our education, community, and nation. September 5th is designated as Teacher's Day for a good cause. He was known for being a scholar, diplomat, the President of India, and above all else, a teacher. He had a solid commitment to education. When he first became president of India in 1962, some students asked him to let them celebrate his birthday on September 5th. He suggested I celebrate Teachers' Day as a symbol of my dedication to the teaching profession rather than my birthday on September 5th. After he made the statement, teachers' day was observed on September 5th across India.

500 Words Essay On Teachers' Day

The word "teacher" in India refers to more than just a profession. With a teacher, there is an intense emotion. If we look at ancient India, we can see how essential gurus (teachers) were in influencing the views of their followers.

Role Of Teacher In Life

Make learning enjoyable: Along with educating, their primary responsibility is to get kids ready for a better future. Instead of presenting concepts in in-depth, technical lectures, they make their classes engaging and enjoyable.

Connecting to actual events: The children's closest friends are good teachers. By relating various subjects to actual events, they facilitate learning. Using real-world examples, they show how even the most complex subjects can be understood and how doing so would benefit the future.

Motivate Learners: Teachers help pupils develop since they frequently look to them for approval. Compliments like "come on," "good job," "well done," and "keep it up" go a long way in motivating children. These appropriate remarks have great value in their lives. They always inspire us to attain our greatest accomplishments in addition to teaching us. They support us, cheer us on, and boost our confidence whenever we fail so that we may keep trying until we achieve. They constantly show us the ideal course for our lives. They consistently go above and beyond to assist pupils.

Alter the course of your life: It is true what is claimed that "excellent instructors hold the future growth of a nation in their hands". The quality of the education we receive from our teachers determines who we become in life. Children's minds are given data and information to examine the scenario. The most critical skill we acquire from teachers is the ability to analyse what is essential. They fashion an exquisite statue out of an unformed stone. They increase our understanding and promote the proper transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.

Monitor Progress & Set Performance Objectives: The best teachers always succeed in pointing out to their students how far they have come since the beginning. Establishing short-term goals, encouraging improvement, and maintaining self-evaluation keeps track of the kids' every move and is a confidence builder. Teachers support students by providing them with clear objectives that are doable. For pupils, they design challenging assignments that aid them in resolving problematic situations in life.

My Teachers’ Day Celebration

The 5th of September is designated as Teacher's Day each year to commemorate the birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan , a legendary educator in his day. A small celebration for our teachers was held on this occasion in our school. At seven in the morning, teachers' day activities began. The school captain gave a brief statement to introduce the event and discuss the significance of teachers and their role in building nations. The ceremony was opened by lighting a candle in front of Maa Saraswati's statue , representing wisdom and peace. The first performance by the sixth-grade children began at precisely 9:00 a.m.

Sujana ma'am taught me English for the first time. She is very knowledgeable and kind and is also my favourite teacher. I played the role of Sujana ma'am in the annual tradition of students dressing up as their favourite teachers for the day. I hold all teachers in the highest regard.

Radhakrishnan loved teaching and was a great teacher. During his tenure as the president, one of his students asked for his permission to celebrate his birthday on a national level.

Dr Radhakrishnan suggested that instead of his birthday, he would be happier if 5th September could be celebrated as Teachers’ day to pay respect to teachers all over the country. He also held office as the second president of India from 1962 to 1967. During his tenure as the president, one of his students asked for his permission to celebrate his birthday on a national level. Dr Radhakrishnan suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday, he would be happier if the 5th of September could be celebrated as Teachers’ day to pay respect to teachers all over the country.

Short Essay on Teachers’ Day in 400 Words

Teachers’ day, as the name suggests, is a day to celebrate the teachers in our life and shower them with love and gratitude for all that they have done and still do for us. In India, teachers’ day is celebrated every year on the 5th of September to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first vice-president and second president, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Dr S. Radhakrishnan was an Indian philosopher, teacher and statesman who served as India’s first vice-president from 1952 to 1962.

He also held office as the second president of India from 1962 to 1967. During his tenure as the president, one of his students and friends asked for his permission to celebrate his birthday on a national level. Dr Radhakrishnan suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday, he would be happier if the 5th of September could be celebrated as Teachers’ day to pay respect to teachers all over the country.

Since then, teachers’ day has been celebrated every year by students all over the nation, to express their love and gratitude for their dear teachers. If children are the future of a country, teachers are the people who shape the future of the country as they guide the children to become better human beings.

Our parents who taught us how to eat, talk, walk and run, our kindergarten teachers who helped us grasp the first alphabets of our life, our school teachers and college professors as well as our dance, drawing, singing mentors – every single one of them have played a role in shaping our lives and making us better and stronger human beings. All our teachers deserve to be shown respect, love and gratitude. Teachers’ day gives us the opportunity to do the same.

On teachers’ day, students decorate their classrooms, organise games, singing and dance performances for their teachers and give them gifts as tokens of gratitude. They also visit their tuition and coaching centres to celebrate the day with their tutors and mentors.

The students who have already passed out from schools and colleges, make it a point to visit their old teachers and bring them sweets and gifts. In many schools and colleges, senior students dress up as their teachers, take classes for junior students and let the teachers rest and enjoy the day. They also arrange delicious food and treats for the teachers. It is a fun-filled day for all teachers and students.

In this lesson today, I have discussed the topic through three individual sets of essays coving different word limits. Besides, I have adopted a very simplistic approach to writing these essays for a better understanding of all kinds of students. But if you still have any doubts regarding this session, mention that in the comment section below. I will try my best to resolve them as soon as possible. Teachers’ Day in the United States is not just a day; it is a celebration of the heart, soul, and essence of education. It is a day dedicated to acknowledging the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the futures of their students and, by extension, the future of the nation. Historical Context and Significance

The origin of Teachers’ Day in the United States dates back to 1953 when Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. This advocacy underscored the importance of recognizing the valuable contributions teachers make to society. Over the years, the celebration has evolved, and today, it is observed for an entire week, known as Teacher Appreciation Week. This expansion signifies a growing acknowledgment of the extensive contributions teachers make beyond the classroom.

The Role of Teachers in Education

Teachers are the cornerstone of education. They are not just educators; they are mentors, guides, and sometimes even friends who inspire curiosity, drive ambition, and instill a love for learning. They play a multifaceted role in shaping the intellectual and ethical foundations of their students. Through their dedication, teachers nurture the talents of the youth, preparing them to face the challenges of the future and to contribute positively to society.

Shaping Lives and Futures

By fostering a sense of community within the classroom, they teach students the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and understanding, laying the foundation for a cohesive society.

Challenges Faced by Teachers

Despite their critical role, teachers often face numerous challenges. These include limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and the need to adapt to diverse learning needs and backgrounds. The increasing demands for accountability and high-stakes testing add to the pressure, requiring teachers to continually update their skills and methodologies.

Furthermore, the shift to remote learning during the pandemic highlighted the flexibility and resilience of teachers. Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to express appreciation for the tireless efforts of educators. Schools and communities celebrate this day in various ways, from hosting special events and ceremonies to presenting gifts and tokens of appreciation. However, recognition should extend beyond a single day. Supporting teachers through adequate funding, professional development opportunities, and creating a supportive work environment is crucial.

a. Trust and Respect: – A strong teacher-student relationship is built on trust and mutual respect, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

Many countries of the world celebrate World Teachers’ Day also called International Teachers’ Day on 5th October, after the day was established by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1994.

The day commemorates the 1966 signing of UNESCO/ILO (International Labor Organization) recommendations on the status of teachers. The recommendations are standard guidelines to address the status and concern of teachers from around the world.

Significance of Teachers’ Day

Teachers play a significant role in spreading knowledge and building society. Some do exceptional work in a specific field or subject while others are excellent teachers and are loved by their students.

Many teachers have played a significant role in the development of a particular subject. To state a few examples – Friedrich Froebel, a German educator, an educational reformer who introduced Kindergarten in the 19th century.

Another inspirational teacher was Anne Sullivan from America who was a teacher by profession. She taught Helen Keller, and highly impaired girl and helped her graduate as Bachelor of Arts and also as the first deaf-blind person to achieve that feat.

It is these heroes of the society like Friedrich Froebel, Anne Sullivan, and others like them, those we honor and commemorate by celebrating Teachers’ Day.

Observation of Teachers’ Day is also significant as it honors the teachers and inspires them for putting more effort into the development of students and society. The day lets us remember the efforts our teachers make to build our careers, to shape our personalities, and to the development of the society as well as the nation.

The day also addresses the concerns of teachers and the problems faced by them. It draws the attention of the world leaders and administrators to address these issues faced by the teachers in the society so that they can serve it the same dedication as they have done for ages.

Teachers’ Day is an occasion to give back to our teachers in whatever way possible. Whether we felicitate them or address their concerns it sends a message to them that the society loves and cares for them, which plays a crucial role in boosting their morale and subsequent development of the society.

What Teachers Really Want for Teacher Appreciation Week

teachers day celebration essay 200 words

It’s that time of year again for social media posts, emails, and gifts thanking teachers for their hard work —and legions of teachers who still report feeling unappreciated. For years, writers have taken to Education Week’s opinion pages to mark the week with both heartfelt thanks and searching reflections on how to make that appreciation last far longer than five days.

In 2021, teachers of the year from seven states came together to write “ It’s Teacher Appreciation Week. Flowers? Mugs? We’re Looking for Something More ,” expressing their hopes for appreciative gestures that won’t wilt by the end of the week.

Their No. 1 ask? “Include teachers in education decisions.”

Taylor Swift performs as part of the "Eras Tour" at the Tokyo Dome on Feb. 7, 2024, in Tokyo.

Another former state teacher of the year came to a similar conclusion several years earlier, when 2014 Texas Teacher of the Year Monica Washington argued that messages of appreciation ring hollow when they aren’t accompanied by a seat at the decisionmaking table: “We are often told that we are ‘valued professionals’ who ‘change the lives of our students every day.’ But we are also micromanaged to immobility, not trusted to make the simplest decisions that affect students’ learning and well-being.”

Sharif El-Mekki has taken on a principal eye view of this conundrum in several recent essays. “What if we made Teacher Appreciation Week last all year?” he asked school leaders last spring , before laying out five actionable recommendations.

Several months later, the former principal kept the theme of teacher appreciation alive into the fall by offering “ The 4 Gifts Principals Should Give Teachers This Year (Hint: Not Another School Mug) .”

That’s not the only call to action opinion writers had for principals. Explaining her own approach in “ Why One Principal Is Asking Her Staff to Do Less ,” Indiana Principal Crystal Thorpe dialed in on the ABCs of school—academics, behavior, and culture—to slow down the runaway snowball of demands on teachers.

For some quick-hit ideas of how school leaders can back up those “thank you” emails with action, look no further than teacher and blogger Larry Ferlazzo’s three roundups of educators sharing the one thing principals can do to support their teachers:

  • 7 Ways Principals Can Support Teachers
  • Principals: Supporting Your Teachers Doesn’t Have to Be Such Hard Work
  • Advice for Principals: Empower Your Teachers

Part of appreciating teachers starts with respecting their profession as more than just a steppingstone to administration or some other career changes. That’s the message of “ Why I’m Happy Being ‘Just a Teacher,’ ” in which Amanda Myers works through her response to a recent dinner party guest who pushed for answers on her “next step” after teaching. The widespread assumption that every teacher is an administrator-in-waiting undermines the valuable types of leadership that teachers bring to the job they already have, she writes.

Gratitude doesn’t just come from outside the profession: Teachers are ready to appreciate each other as well. Just look at what these teachers and student-teachers had to say about the educators who inspired them:

teachers day celebration essay 200 words

Those words of affirmation are just in line with instructional coach Lisa Westman’s prescriptions in the 2017 opinion essay “ Teachers, Do We Appreciate One Another? ” To help her fellow educators join the mutual-appreciation party, Westman translates the popular love languages—gift giving, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, and physical connection—into work-appropriate gestures to make colleagues feel valued.

“Teachers most frequently say they feel unappreciated by society and administration,” she wrote. “And it is easy to look outward at factors we cannot control, we can’t make society appreciate us. But, when we look inward, we must ask, what part do we, teachers, play in creating a culture of appreciation?”

A decade into retirement, former English teacher Laurie Barnoski was still feeling the appreciation when she sat down to write a love letter to teaching back in 2018. After reconnecting with four former students—two of whom had gone on to become English teachers themselves—she was reminded of the long-tail influence of her job.

“By taking time to say thank you,” she wrote, “my students were telling me that my 32 years in the classroom meant something; my goal to have a positive impact on my students was complete. They gave me the greatest gift human beings can give one another: They told me that I mattered.”
