To create a workbook on Wobo, you’ll first need to set up an account .
To do so, go to woboapp.com , and on the top-right corner of the homepage, there’s a Start free trial option.
When you click on it, it leads you to the sign-up page. You can sign-up using your email or one of the SSO options.
If you choose to go forward with your email, you’ll see the page as shown below.
After filling in the details, click on the Sign Up button, and it’ll take you to another page to start the 14-day free trial. The good thing is that it doesn’t require you to add your credit card details for the trial.
You’ll then see Wobo’s dashboard and can start creating your workbook.
2. Select a Workbook Template or Build Your Own
To create a new workbook, find + New workbook in the dashboard and click on it. This will lead you to the workbook template library.
You can create an interactive Wobo workbook in three ways:
- Use a template.
- Build your own workbook.
- Request a custom workbook.
From the left panel, you can visualize templates from the following categories:
- Blank Templates
- Business Coaching
- Corporate Training
- Self-improvement
You can first preview a theme by clicking on the Preview button, and if it works for you, you can select it and add the workbook name.
The theme will then open in the visual workbook builder . From there, you can edit the style and add different elements.
However, if you can’t find a suitable template, you can choose the build your own option. In this case, the visual builder will show a blank page where you’ll design everything from scratch.
With the third option, instead, you can request a custom workbook from Wobo’s in-house design team.
They’ll ask you to fill out a form regarding design requirements and the services you need.
Their team will connect with you and provide the quote through email.
3. Create a Workbook in Visual Builder
Once you’ve chosen a template—or decided to build your own—you’ll access the visual builder, which presents a clean and intuitive interface.
While the menu options are on the left panel, you’ll see a real-time preview of the workbook on the right side.
Using the Global Styles menu option, you can do some workbook-level customization, including:
- Adding a logo
- Choosing the page color
- Defining the text font and color
- Button styling
- Link styling
- Table styling
The other menu option is Modules , where you’ll see the list of modules added to the workbook and the different types of content that you put into it.
Below these two menu options, you have the Workbook Cover Page option, which allows you to create the cover page of your workbook using specific settings, including:
- Upload a cover image
- Choose logo size and positioning
- Add a title and description and do their formatting
Now, it’s time to design your first module.
To start, click on + Add Module button.
The new module is then added to the left panel, and any real-time changes will appear on the right.
Click on + Add Section under the new module.
Then, a dialog box will open with different question types, exercises, and elements you can add to the workbook.
Select a section from the dialog box and click on + Add .
The section is reflected in the workbook, and you can edit it from the left panel.
Here’s an example.
For instance, let’s imagine that you want to add some text to your workbook module. For that, you’ll have to select the Text Field section and click on + Add . When the text field appears on the right, you can input the title and description from the left panel.
Similarly, when you add a Radio Buttons section, the option to add title, description, and choices will appear on the left panel.
Go back to modules and add multiple sections in a similar way. All sections will appear under the module’s name.
You can then reorder the sections by simply dragging and dropping.
After adding all the sections, place a Workbook Download Link from the sections list. We recommend placing it at the bottom of the workbook.
Once you’re done with the editing and you’re pleased with the result, you can share it with your students.
4. Share the Workbook
The final step is sharing the workbook with your students.
To do this, click on the Share button in the top right corner of the visual workbook editor, which will open a popup window.
Here, you’ll have to add a student group name. If you’re creating the workbook for cohort-based groups, turn on the toggle and choose a start and end date.
To provide access to the workbook forever, keep the toggle off and click on Save . The workbook will be published only once you’ve completed this step.
Then, the invite window will appear, and you can select how to invite your students. You can choose between the two options: Invite by email or Install Thinkific .
Wobo has a direct integration with Thinkific . So, if you use Thinkific for your online courses, you can use Wobo workbooks directly inside your lessons.
If you use another course platform or just teach live classes via Google Meet or Zoom, you can invite students via email.
5. Additional Settings
Wobo offers some valuable settings that we’d like to mention here. To access these, click on Settings from the drop-down menu in the top-right corner.
Then, go to Workbook Settings → Protecting your IP.
Here, you can add the student’s name and email as a watermark and create a custom watermark text. Moreover, the Disable Text Copying option prevents students from copying the workbook’s content.
Additionally, PDF Settings allows you to choose the page’s dimensions, and there’s an option to add page numbers to your workbook.

A workbook is a different kind of book than almost any other. You’ll need to take special care when designing yours to align with your course goals, provide a balance of text and graphics, and incorporate interactive elements. All of which need to be packaged in a professional-looking book.
The first step is to look at your course curriculum. Most likely, you’ll want to organize your coursebook in the same way. Start with lesson one, move to lesson two, and so on. As you review your coursework, look for content ideas or graphics you can use for your workbook.
Because you want your students to use the workbook, you need to make it simple to digest. Use graphics to break up large blocks of text and include ample exercises or simple questions to reinforce the lessons.
Finally, because you’ve got space in a book that you won’t have in a classroom (virtual or in-person), you should look for supplemental information that will help your students. That might be a case study, prompts to keep the lesson going, or reference lists for further reading.
To recap, you should aim to include the following content in your workbook:
- Sections that follow your lesson plan
- Graphics, charts, and images that reinforce your lessons
- Interactive elements like questions or prompts
- Supplemental learning material such as reference lists
After you’ve amassed the content you’ll use for your workbook, it’s time to put it together and create a book.
Creating Your Workbook
Because workbooks will include a variety of content, you’re going to want an advanced page layout program to help you. I strongly recommend Adobe InDesign or Affinity Publisher. You can learn more about both of those here:

If you’re not into designing pages (which is fair, these programs have a fairly steep learning curve), you can find skilled professionals who can design your pages for very reasonable costs.
To create a new blank workbook, you should start with a template that defines your margins and gutter . Luckily, Lulu has all the templates you need to get started in InDesign, Word, or any other page layout tool. If you’re planning to design your own workbook, I strongly recommend starting with one of our templates and carefully reading the Book Creation Guide (which is included when you download a template).
From there, consider different layouts you can template. For example, if you’re ending each lesson with a recap and a short quiz, make templates for those pages. Now you can recycle that template for each chapter.
Workbook Printing Options
Your students will be using the workbook, so you need to balance cost and quality. To get the best value, you should utilize standard paper (usually 60#) and standard inks (generally Black & White).
Both options are the most cost-effective choices and provide the best experience for writing in the workbook. The heavier, coated paper will smudge if you write on the pages and premium inks will create pages heavy with the ink coverage.
Finally, you’ll need to pick the right binding options. Textbooks have historically been hardcover books with casewrap covers. You could go that route, particularly if you’ve created a longer workbook for your course.
The other popular option is coil binding. This allows your book to lay flat, making it easier for your students to use the workbook. I recommend using our pricing calculator to compare the options you have for your workbook.

Using Your Workbook To Market Your Online Course
Yes, of course, you didn’t create a workbook to help market your class. But there’s no reason you can’t still use it as an enticement to draw in students!
Publishing a book is a big boost for your credibility and authority. Lean on that when you’re promoting your classes. Be sure prospective students know that the course includes a workbook. Maybe even make the workbook available for sale on its own for students who don’t have the time or funds to take the class, but still want to learn the material.
Look for ways to use and repurpose the workbook to reach more students and expand your network. That might include packing the workbook into a registration packet for new students or offering it for sale on your website. You could also pull out the first chapter or section and offer it as a free PDF download to entice potential students to sign up!
While classes are repeatable, they take time and effort to prepare and teach. Your workbooks give those students something tangible to take away from your course, ideally helping them remember and reference your lessons for years to come.

can i get an inside cover printed? Also, what if I have some color pages while others are black and white? Finally, if there is a bleed on the edge, why do I need a half inch margin on the doc? It doesn’t make sense to me and is causing a layout problem with my page numbers.
Hi Alexia, We offer inside cover printing for our Comic Book and Magazine products. All our other books will print just on the outside of the cover. If you need any color printing, you’ll need to select Standard or Premium Color. We don’t have the capabilities to print both color and black & white pages for the same book. The page margin is a suggestion, you can add content to the margin area. You just need to be aware that, with all book printing, there is likely to be some slight variance in the trimming. That might result in your page numbers or other content in the margins printing closer to the edge than you want or intended.

6 Ways to Add Value to Your Online Course with Stand-Out Workbook Content

Workbooks are the get-it-done complement to your core lessons
Workbooks are a supplement to the lessons in your online courses. Done well, they give your students the reference materials and guides they need to complete lessons well.
When you’re deciding on whether to include a workbook and what to put into it, always make sure you’re giving true value. Do not include a workbook because you think you should. Do it because your students will be able to better execute on their own work with this workbook content.
Six types of content that you can put into a workbook follow.
1. Detail key lesson takeaways.
Your course lessons will teach important concepts and practices your students need to understand. These lessons might include background, examples, and how-tos on those key concepts.
Providing a lesson “takeaway summary” gives your students an easy way to review what’s especially important about what you’ve just presented.
Two ways to present key takeaways are:
- In a list of key points. Optionally add one or two sentences to elaborate on each. This approach is good for a lesson that is comprised of multiple points or steps.
- As a longer written summary (like a short magazine piece) with a pullquote or key example box. This is good for when there are one or two overarching concepts being covered in-depth within the lesson. You’re not putting everything in here. Rather, it’s a summary of the key concepts.
2. Provide a checklist of action items.
When there are several elements or steps or ingredients your students need to prepare, you can include them in a checklist.
This works when students don’t need an in-depth how-to, but, rather, a reminder of the actions to be taken. Presentation is as a simple list with checkboxes. You might add one or two sentences to elaborate on each item.
AN EXAMPLE: Here’s a checklist from the eCourse Blueprint workbook. It accompanies a lesson that presents a 6-step process for created detailed lesson content and scripts. The actual lesson goes into more detail than this checklist. This checklist works as a handy guide for students to use while actually doing this work.
3. Supply step-by-step how-tos for work to be done.
This is the checklist expanded. Here you'll have more detailed how-tos for each step. You might also include illustrations or “call-out” notes.
AN EXAMPLE: The example I’m showing here comes from my Scrapbook Coach course. Each video lesson showed the creation of a scrapbook page. To go with that video are guides that review the steps. I took screenshots from key milestones in the process and added numbered steps to the work. The actual lesson goes into more detail than this checklist. This checklist works as a handy guide for students to use while actually doing this work. After watching the video, a student could then refer to the quick guide to recall the steps.
4. Enrich conceptual lessons with nitty-gritty details and case studies
With big courses (several modules with multiple lessons in every module), the scope of the work to be done can be quite extensive.
You could take an approach in which you provide upper level, conceptual instruction in the lesson–and then point your students to step-by-step how-tos in the workbook. This could be an especially apt approach when different students will take different routes, and, thus, not all content applies to everyone.
Another approach would be to use your workbook to provide detailed examples and case studies that supplement your lessons.
5. Provide a decision-making framework
If your students need to choose a tool or an artistic ingredient or a technique or a way forward in a coached situation, you can break down the choices for them and create a decision-making tool they can rely on to move forward.
Present key features or aspects to evaluate. Include pros, cons, and best usage situations. Perhaps pricing or rules or best combos. It depends on what they are considering / choosing / deciding on in order to move forward.
You might present this in a grid or list or decision tree–whatever form makes the most sense.

6. Give students work prompts that help them figure out what they need to do.
Map out the work your students need to do for the lesson they’ve just completed. Then, in the workbook, provide prompts and journaling or notes areas that get them thinking through this work.
Much of the work I’m teaching my students at Teach What You Do requires thinking through a detailed set of evaluations and decisions. Prompted guides are useful for this.
For example:
- If you’re going to price your course, you’ll need to work through understanding value offered, competitor pricing, the offer stack, your own budget and more. The lesson covers this and the workbook prompts journaling and decisions.
- To brand your course, you’ll make choices that require thinking through multiple aspects: brand personality, colors, fonts, and imagery. The lesson teaches this and the workbook prompts it.
That's it. You've now seen 6 types of content you can include in your teaching workbooks:

Be careful to avoid workbooks that don't offer value or that generate extra work that's not really needed.

Donny brusca.
Donny Brusca founded CourseWorkBooks in 2010.
He has retired from teaching and school administration after about 30 years of employment, mostly on the high school and college levels. He has a B.S. in mathematics and M.A. in computer and information science from Brooklyn College (CUNY) and a post-graduate P.D. in educational administration and supervision from St. John’s University.
His college-level instructional experiences include Brooklyn College, Pace University, and Touro College Graduate School of Technology. His high school teaching experiences include public, charter, Catholic, and Jewish schools.
His administrative experiences include serving as the Student Data Systems Manager at a charter management organization and high school and as the Academic Dean and Mathematics Chairperson at a Manhattan business college. For several years, he was responsible for student scheduling in a high school of about 1000 students.
He has taught courses in basic mathematics, logic, algebra, geometry, probability, discrete structures, computer programming, web design, data structures, switching theory, computer architecture, and application software. He has taught all three Regents level mathematics courses and AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science Principles.
He owned and operated a successful part-time disc jockey business (Sound Sensation), performing personally at nearly 1000 weddings and private events over a 12 year span.
He has managed and coached high school baseball teams, after playing for over 40 years in organized baseball and softball leagues. He currently works part time as a baseball umpire.
He lives in Staten Island, NY, with his wife, Camille, and their cats.
