Here you’ll find all our Year 5 maths worksheets, and Year 5 maths tests that are suitable for use during classroom lessons and as homework.

  • What to expect from our Year 5 Maths worksheets

These KS2 maths worksheets cover every part of the Year 5 primary maths curriculum, to help your children practise and gain confidence in their understanding ahead of Year 6 and the KS2 SATs . Their focus is on retrieval practice – going over topics that children should already have covered and helping them strengthen their knowledge and understanding.

Most of our worksheets come in pdf format, and all of them are printable. But if you’re running out of printer ink, they can be viewed online too.

Every Year 5 maths test or worksheet comes with its own answer sheet, and guidance from the National Curriculum is included wherever it might be needed (for example, if there might be more than one correct answer for a question). Some worksheets also include model answers to help children break down the best way to solve a problem.

Note: The National Curriculum does not specify any place value teaching for Year 5. However this is often a good time to begin revising the topic (among others) in preparation for the KS2 SATs. Have a look at these place value worksheets as part of your revision.

Similarly, addition and subtraction work is largely an extension of what was covered in previous years. Take a look at our collection of addition and subtraction worksheets for practice materials for these topics.

Year 5 Maths Worksheets for converting units: Worked Examples

In previous years, children will have looked at converting units (for example centimetres to metres), however in Year 5, this is a unit of its own. Year 5 Maths Test: All topics

As a child gets closer to Year 6 and the Key Stage 2 SATs, it’s important they get used to the timings and styles of questions they might face. Our Year 5 maths tests includes two assessments – one arithmetic paper and one reasoning paper – with SATS style questions created by our curriculum experts, answers and a mark scheme with detailed explanations of how to solve each question.

Both papers should take about one hour to complete, and cover every part of the curriculum, from place value to geometry and 3d shapes. This makes them useful for checking children’s overall understanding of the maths they’ve learned in Year 5, as well as providing them with exam practice.

Year 5 Maths Test: Times Tables

While Year 5 children are past the newly introduced multiplication tables check, knowing your times tables is a key part of many other maths topics they will learn. So it’s always worth keeping up with practice, and these quick worksheets help a child see exactly which ones they know by heart, and which they struggle with.

They can also be used as an oral and mental starter to a lesson to get brains working!

One of the best ways to use these sheets is to get children to work in pairs, discussing the questions as they work through them.

The questions have been designed to practise a range of maths skills from number to geometry and measurement facts, including using time and money.

The quizzes are in order of difficulty with the questions getting slightly harder in each quiz.

Our Year 5 Mental Math Worksheets contain a wide range of different questions and math skills.

year 5 homework pdf

Year 5 Worksheets

Let’s teach! Primary provides a collection of Year 5 worksheets for HASS, science, health and more. These interactive worksheets accompany each curriculum-aligned lesson as downloadable files, meaning they can be completed digitally, or printed and passed out to students.

year 5 homework pdf

Let’s teach! Primary (LTP) is a curriculum-aligned digital teaching tool that provides learning content for Years 1 to 6. All content is written to the Australian Curriculum and mapped to both the Victorian and Western Australian Curriculums, as well as the NSW syllabus.

Each learning area is organised into four separate units, with each unit containing lessons and worksheets that are intended to be taught over a term. This structure provides teachers with a flexible program that can be followed prescriptively or adapted.

Lesson plans are included for every Year 5 lesson and work to support teachers in their preparation and delivery of curriculum-aligned learning content. Teaching strategies are suggested at the start of each lesson plan, and differentiation points are provided to allow for easy adaptation to meet classroom needs.

Each lesson uses interactive page sliders which allows teachers to deliver the most engaging content possible, helping students make deeper connections with the learning outcomes while they explore the integrated links, videos, maps and more.

To ensure the completion of the entire teaching process, Let’s teach! Primary provides downloadable worksheets that students can use to consolidate their learning and deepen their understanding with real-world context.

To recap, all you have to do is:

  • choose your learning area
  • follow the step-by-step lesson plan
  • present the student pages and share the worksheets

Let’s teach! Primary  provides full curriculum coverage of every included learning area, with our online presence allowing the platform to be an ever-evolving mapping tool.

1. Preparing Statistics  for Weather Prediction

Statistics allows us to analyze data and draw meaningful conclusions. Collect weather data for your city for the past five years. Analyze trends like average temperature or rainfall using statistical tools (for example, spreadsheets) and create a model to predict future weather patterns.

2. Weathering the Change

This includes a statistical analysis of rainfall, temperature, and crop yields in a rural indian community to assess the impact of weather changes on agricultural productivity. Visit a village near Delhi and collect data on various crops over the past few years from the farmers. Also, collect data about temperature variation and rain over the period for a particular crop. Try to find the effect of temperature and rain variations on various crops

3. Retrospective Rainfall Analysis

This involves predicting the precipitation rate in a particular region. Choose any week of your ongoing semester. Collect data for the past 10 – 15 years for the amount of rainfall received in Delhi during that week. Predict the amount of rainfall for the current year.

4. Balancing Inventory  with Math

This includes the mathematical approach you will be using to analyze sales data to optimize stock levels for profit. Visit a Kirana shop near your home and collect data regarding the sales of certain commodities over a month. Try to figure out the stock of a particular commodity which should be in the store in order to maximize the profit

5. The Math of Games

Probability is the likelihood of an event occurring. Game theory analyzes strategies in games with multiple players. Analyze the probability of winning a hand in Blackjack based on the dealt cards. Develop a strategy guide based on your probability analysis. Create a flow chart or a decision tree outlining optimal moves based on different scenarios in the game. Explore different strategies such as hit or stand, and see how they affect the odds of winning using probability calculations.

These project ideas are mostly influenced by the projects and assignments suggested by CBSE. So, teachers can include these ideas in the holiday homework to broaden the scope of mathematical exploration for their students.

  • USTR to modify China tariffs under Section 301 following four-year review

President Biden is directing the USTR to add or increase tariffs for certain products.

  • Insights ›

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) today released the four-year review of actions taken in the Section 301 investigation of China’s acts, policies, and practices related to technology transfer, intellectual property, and innovation. Read the USTR report (193 pages)

A related USTR release explains that the USTR recommended that products from China currently subject to Section 301 tariffs should remain. Additionally, in light of the increased burden on U.S. commerce, President Biden is directing the USTR to add or increase tariffs for certain products.

The report also makes recommendations for:

  • Establishing an exclusion process targeting machinery used in domestic manufacturing, including proposals for 19 exclusions for certain solar manufacturing equipment;
  • Allocating additional funds to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for greater enforcement of Section 301 actions
  •  Greater collaboration and cooperation between private companies and government authorities to combat state-sponsored technology theft
  • Continuing to assess approaches to support diversification of supply chains to enhance our own supply chain resilience

President Biden is also directing the USTR to establish an exclusion process for machinery used in domestic manufacturing and to prioritize exclusions for certain solar manufacturing equipment.

The White House issued a fact sheet identifying the following tariff rate increases:

  • From 0–7.5% to 25% in 2024 on certain steel and aluminum products under Section 301
  • From 25% to 50% by 2025 on semiconductors
  • From 25% to 100% in 2024 on electric vehicles under Section 301
  • From 7.5%% to 25% in 2024 on lithium-ion EV batteries, from 7.5% to 25% in 2026 on lithium-ion non-EV batteries, and from 7.5% to 25% in 2024 on battery parts
  • From zero to 25% in 2026 on natural graphite and permanent magnets, from zero to 25% in 2024 for certain other critical minerals
  • From 25% to 50% in 2024 on solar cells (whether or not assembled into modules)—read a related White House fact sheet (May 16, 2024) on solar manufacturing
  • From 0% to 25% in 2024 on ship-to-shore cranes
  • From 0% to 50% in 2024 on syringes and needles; from 0–7.5% to 25% in 2024 for certain personal protective equipment (PPE), including certain respirators and face masks; and from 7.5% to 25% in 2026 on rubber medical and surgical gloves
  • The USTR in May 2022 commenced the statutory four-year review process by notifying representatives of domestic industries that benefit from the tariff actions of the possible termination of those actions and of the opportunity for the representatives to request continuation.
  • The USTR in September 2022 announced that because requests for continuation were received, the tariff actions had not terminated and USTR would conduct a review of the tariff actions.
  • The USTR opened a docket on November 15, 2022, for interested persons to submit comments with respect to a number of considerations concerning the review. The USTR received nearly 1,500 comments.

2024 Preakness Stakes date and time: When is the race, how to watch, odds, horses and weather

Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness Stakes entrant Mystik Dan leaves the track after a workout ahead of the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes horse race at Pimlico Race Course, Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Baltimore. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez)

The 2024 Preakness Stakes (Saturday, May 18 on NBC/Peacock) will be the 149th running of the annual horse race in Baltimore. It’s the yearly second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown pursuit. Mystik Dan will be running in this year’s Preakness after some doubt that he would run in the race due to the short turn around between the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2024 Preakness Stakes.

What is the Preakness Stakes?

The Preakness Stakes is the second race in the Triple Crown series and is running for the 149th time this year. A blanket of yellow flowers is draped on the winner each year and the weather vane at Pimlico is painted with the silk’s colors immediately after a winner is declared. The field is much smaller than the 20 horses that start the Kentucky Derby each year. This year, only eight horses will run in the Preakness. Only horses that are three years old are eligible to race in the Preakness Stakes, and it is open to both male and female horses. Swiss Skydiver, a filly, won the Preakness Stakes in 2020 and Rachel Alexandra won in 2009.

Everything you need to know about the horses running the Preakness on Saturday

When is the 2024 Preakness Stakes?

The 2024 Preakness Stakes will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

What horses are in the 2024 Preakness Stakes and their odds?

  • Mugatu – 20-1
  • Uncle Heavy – 7-1
  • Catching Freedom – 7-2
  • Muth – Scratched
  • Mystik Dan – 5-2
  • Seize the Grey – 8-1
  • Just Steel – 9-1
  • Tuscan Gold – 7-2
  • Imagination – 9-2

What time does the 2024 Preakness Stakes start?

The post-time for the Preakness Stakes is set for 7:01 p.m. ET.

How long is the Preakness Stakes?

The race is 1 3/16 miles long. Secretariat owns the Preakness Stakes record at 1:53, although he wasn’t credited with the record until a 2012 meeting of the Maryland Racing Commission. Smarty Jones owns the record for margin of victory with a 11 1/2 length victory in 2004. Trainer Bob Baffert has won the Preakness Stakes eight times, most recently in 2023.

Who won the 2023 Preakness Stakes?

In 2023, National Treasure won the Preakness Stakes by a head over Blazing Sevens. National Treasure was 4-1 on the morning line odds. Mage, the 2023 Kentucky Derby winner, finished third.

What is the weather forecast for the 2024 Preakness Stakes?

The forecast for Saturday calls for a high of 66 degrees and a low of 58 degrees. The bigger news is there’s an 80 percent chance of rain on Saturday throughout the day with an accumulation of around half an inch.

How can I watch and stream the 2024 Preakness Stakes?

Television coverage for the 2024 Preakness Stakes starts at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC. Preliminary coverage starts at 1:30 p.m. on CNBC. All coverage can also be streamed on Peacock.

Five long-standing traditions of the Kentucky Derby

Who is the favorite for the 2024 Preakness Stakes?

Mystik Dan is the 5-2 favorite for the 2024 Preakness Stakes. Muth, who is trained by Bob Baffert, was the morning line favorite when the post positions were drawn on Monday evening, but Muth scratched due to a high-fever.

Catching Freedom (6-1) and Imagination (6-1) have the second best odds.

What does morning line mean?

It is the first set of odds, released after the post positions were announced. Horse racing is parimutuel betting, meaning you can buy a ticket on the horse you want to win (or place or show, etc) but the odds are going to fluctuate up until the start of the race and eventually land on final odds as the horses go off, based on what everyone else is betting. In regular sports betting, you can buy a ticket at 5-to-1 odds and even if it’s down to 2-to-1 by the start of the game, your bet will pay out at 5-to-1. In horse racing, those 5-to-1 odds moving to 2-to-1 means you get stuck with those 2-to-1 odds like everyone else, no matter when the ticket was purchased (but, on the bright side, the odds can always go in the other direction, too).

What is the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes?

The Black-Eyed Susan Stakes is held on the Friday before the Preakness at Pimlico. It puts the best 3-year-old fillies against each other. The event is a Grade II race and offers $300,000 purse. It will stream starting at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday on Peacock.

How does betting on the Preakness Stakes work?

There are many different ways to bet on the Preakness Stakes, and it can be confusing to understand what an exacta, trifecta and superfecta are. It’s also confusing on how actually to place a bet on them.

The easiest way is to bet on the winner of the race. We explained all of the different types of horse racing bets here.

  • Climate change
  • Palaeoclimate

Including an exceptionally warm Northern Hemisphere (NH) summer 1 ,2 , 2023 has been reported as the hottest year on record 3-5 . Contextualizing recent anthropogenic warming against past natural variability is nontrivial, however, because the sparse 19 th century meteorological records tend to be too warm 6 . Here, we combine observed and reconstructed June-August (JJA) surface air temperatures to show that 2023 was the warmest NH extra-tropical summer over the past 2000 years exceeding the 95% confidence range of natural climate variability by more than half a degree Celsius. Comparison of the 2023 JJA warming against the coldest reconstructed summer in 536 CE reveals a maximum range of pre-Anthropocene-to-2023 temperatures of 3.93°C. Although 2023 is consistent with a greenhouse gases-induced warming trend 7 that is amplified by an unfolding El Niño event 8 , this extreme emphasizes the urgency to implement international agreements for carbon emission reduction.
