Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement through Nurturing

National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC)

The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) is mandated to communicate Science and Technology to masses, stimulate scientific and technological temper and coordinate and orchestrate such efforts throughout the country.

Department of Science & Technology (DST) promotes new areas of S&T in the country and connects S&T sector to different Government horizontals and verticals, academia, R&D and industry. DST provides the largest extramural research and development support in the country to strengthen national S&T capacity and capability through a competitive mode to scientists cutting across institutions and disciplines. This strategically important function mutually reinforces outcomes of our country’s educational, scientific and industrial R&D initiatives and helps transform the S&T landscape of the country. The DST supports and encourages the whole gamut of S&T ecosystem from seeding and capacity building in the cutting-edge research areas; translational research; technology development and deployment; innovation and startup ecosystem; and international collaborations. This is achieved by supporting students, scientists, researchers in academic and R&D institutions across the country through fellowships, R&D projects, S&T infrastructure and other supports.

About e-PMS

e-PMS portal facilitates the Scientists and Researchers of the country to submit their Project Proposals for various Schemes of Department of Science and Technology. The portal also provides facility to track the status of the submitted Project Proposals. The process of submitting the Project Proposals along with the Schemes and formats are available. For security reasons, IP address of the applicant's computer is being recorded during the usage. If any Principal Investigator is found to have furnished incorrect or misleading information at any stage, the Project Proposal shall be rejected.

Start-up Research Grant (SRG) (Formerly known as ECR)

This scheme aims to assist researchers to initiate their research career in a new institution for pursuing exciting and innovative research in frontier areas of science and engineering.

Impacting Research Innovation and Technology (IMPRINT-IIC)

To promote and support translation of innovative ideas and knowledge in engineering derived from fundamental or applied research conducted in academic institutions under MHRD into pilot scale operation, field deployment or viable technology development within a short time frame.

Teachers Associateship For Research Excellence (TARE)

This scheme aims to facilitate mobility of faculty members working in a regular capacity in State Universities / Colleges and in private Academic Institutions

Distinguished Investigator Award Scheme (DIA)

Distinguished Investigator Award (SERB DIA) has been initiated to recognize and reward Principal Investigators of SERB projects who have performed remarkably well. The aim of the scheme is to reward good performance as well as to motivate ongoing PIs to perform exceedingly well.

International Travel Support (ITS)

International Travel Support (ITS) Scheme provides financial assistance to Indian researchers for presenting a research paper in an international scientific event (conference, seminar, workshop etc.) held abroad.

• Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship (OVDF)

Overseas Visiting Doctoral Fellowship (OVDF) Scheme is designed with a primary objective to offer opportunities for PhD students admitted in the Indian institutions for gaining exposure and training in overseas universities / institutions of repute and areas of importance to country for period up to 12 months (extendable up-to a maximum of six months on case-to-case basis, based on performance evaluation) during their doctoral research.

Visiting Advanced Joint Research Faculty Scheme (VAJRA)

VAJRA Faculty Scheme is to bring a strong international connect to the R&D ecosystem of India. The scheme offers adjunct / visiting faculty assignments to overseas scientists, faculty members and R&D professionals.

Core Research Grant (Formerly known as EMR)

Individual centric competitive mode of funding will be provided under the CRG, SERB supports potential scientists for undertaking reserach in frontier areas of S&T in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences & Mathematical Sciences

The Scheme for Funding High Risk - High Reward Research aims at supporting proposals that are conceptually new and risky, and if successful, expected to have a paradigm shifting influence on the S&T. This may be in terms of formulating new hypothesis, or scientific breakthroughs which aid in emergence of new technologies.

To identify motivated young researchers and provide them support for doing research in frontier areas of science and engineering. The fellows will work under a mentor, and it is hoped that this training will provide them a platform to develop as an independent researcher.

This scheme drives special programs to ensure enhanced participation of people from the marginalized sections of the society in the research and development field.

Financial Assistance for Seminar/Symposia

The primary focus of the scheme is to support events having strong orientation towards scientific research in the areas of basic sciences, engineering, technology, agriculture & medicines.

J C Bose National Fellowship

The fellowship is meant to recognize active scientists and engineers for their outstanding performance and contributions. The fellowships are scientist-specific and very selective.

The main objective of this scheme is to utilise expertise and potential of large number of eminent scientists in the country who remain active and deeply motivated to participate in S&T development activities even after their retirement.

The fellowship is meant for brilliant scientists and engineers from all over the world to take up scientific research positions in India, especially those scientists who want to return to India from abroad.

Ayurvedic Biology Programme

To promote high quality research which would lead to major contributions to scientific knowledge and which could have implications for improving the standards of health care. The investigative work will necessarily involve the full participation of scientists and Ayurvedic experts who would be part of established institutions of science, medicine, and Ayurveda in India.

Mathematical Research Impact-Centric Support (MATRICS)

Aimed to provide fixed grant support to active researchers with good credentials in Mathematical Sciences, Theoretical Sciences and Quantitative Social Sciences.

"SERB supports research in frontier areas of Science and Engineering. A regular faculty / researcher in an academic / research institution can seek research support to carry out his/her research. Board also gives special attention to young scientists below the age of 35 years (relaxable by 5 years in the case of SC/ST/OBC, woman and physically handicapped category) to undertake independent research in newly emerging and frontier areas of science and engineering."

One of the most notable developments in the S&T sector in the XI Plan has been the setting up of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) through an Act of Parliament, viz. the Science and Engineering Research Board Act, 2008. Promoting basic research in Science and Engineering and to provide financial assistance to persons engaged in such research, academic institutions, research and development laboratories, industrial concerns and other agencies for such research and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto are the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board.

Call for Proposals: Revitalizing STEM education to equip next generations with STEM Competency (Extended deadline: 12 May 2024)

The 15-month project aims to create innovative educational solutions, to increase institutional and professional capabilities, and share knowledge and best practices at both regional and global levels. The project will identify innovative proposals composed of STEM Research Activities and STEM Educational Activities presented by applicant teams. After 6 months of implementation, project teams will be invited to co-create and consolidate results to co-develop a STEM education knowledge hub and a regional inventory of STEM educational resources.

A supervisory board will select up to 5 promising proposals. Project proposals will need to consider national and local STEM educational landscapes and coordinate with relevant stakeholders. Selected teams will receive funding from the project of a total of up to 26,000 USD to implement their innovative STEM education projects within a 6-month period. 

The selected project teams will have the opportunity to share results, best practices, methodologies, and lessons learnt. The generated knowledge will then be scaled up within and across the region.

Each proposal will include both STEM Research Activities and STEM Educational Activities, whose implementation will be executed by project teams in close collaboration with UNESCO.

For STEM Research Activities , the research should focus on one of the following domains:

• Correlation between investments in STEM and educational outcomes
• Female participation in STEM education
• Flexible teaching and learning models and inclusive approaches
• Technologies development and application in STEM education in schools
• Effectiveness of the educational system to deliver STEM education
• National ecosystems and policies for STEM education

For STEM Educational Activities , the activities should relate to one of the following modalities:

• STEM teaching and learning activities for students
• Strengthening teacher development and inclusive STEM pedagogies

Educational agencies, universities, research agencies, independent experts, NGOs, and schools from UNESCO Member States in Europe  (with a priority focus on South-East Europe and the Mediterranean) are all eligible applicants. 

Interested applicants are requested to submit all documents to [email protected] by 12 May 2024 by 23:59 (CET). Applicants may direct questions related to the preparation of the application to the same email address.

Horizon Europe: New calls for proposals for 2024-2025

New funding opportunities in Horizon Europe in 2024-2025

The European Commission has published an updated version of the current main work program for Horizon Europe. It contains adapted and new information for the 2024 calls and already some new elements for 2025. Accordingly, the name of the document has also been changed to “Work Program 2023-2025”.

The work program section on the EU missions now contains new topics for 2024 for each mission as well as the New European Bauhaus and other cross-cutting activities.

In the work program sections on clusters 1-6, individual 2024 topics have been updated and a few new topics for 2024 have been added, such as the European Cultural Heritage Cloud (cluster 2) and Artificial Intelligence (cluster 4).

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) work program section contains adjusted call dates for 2024 and the planned call dates for 2025.

Dst-jsps joint call for proposals.

The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) conduct the India-Japan Cooperative Science Programme (IJCSP) to promote bilateral scientific collaboration between Indian and Japanese scientists.

Eligibility: The Indian applicants who are in any way involved in the implementation of two or more projects that were previously supported by the DST (International Group) and that are not expected to be completed by 31st March 2022 are not eligible to be a member of the research team. Indian and Japanese PIs must submit the same project proposal to the respective Authorities responsible for the implementation of the Executive Programme.
