Foundations of Information Technology prepares students to succeed in the workplace. Students begin by establishing an awareness of the roles essential to an organization's success, and then work to develop an understanding of professional communications and leadership skills. In doing so, students gain proficiency with word processing, email, and presentation management software. Students will also be able to demonstrate digital literacy through basic study of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, the Internet, web publishing, spreadsheets and database software.
This course allows students to explore careers in information technology and business while learning skills applicable to any professional setting. Through a series of hands-on activities, students will create, analyze, and critique reports, letters, project plans, presentations, and other professional communications. Students will learn what to expect in the field of Information Technology and begin exploring career options in the field. Regular engagement in active learning ensures students can continually refine the skills necessary to prepare them for work. In addition, students will evaluate the qualifications required for specific careers so they can identify opportunities that are of interest to them.
Foundations of Information Technology is a full-year introductory Career and Technical Education course applicable to programs of study in business, management, and administration; information technology; and other career clusters. This course is built to state and national standards. Students who successfully complete the course will be prepared to pursue the Microsoft® Office Specialist certifications in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access*, as well as IC3 certification.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) style is a numbered referencing system, and widely used in technical fields, particularly in computer science. 10 of the highest-paying IT jobs right now
If you’re looking for a well-paying, in-demand job that rewards problem-solving skills, a career in information technology might be a good fit for you. The field of IT encompasses computer systems, programming languages, software, data, information processing, and storage to create, secure, and exchange electronic data.
Even with recent layoffs in the tech sector, Gaurav Jetley, assistant professor of computer information systems in Colorado State University ’s College of Business, says not to worry.

“IT jobs are still in demand,” Jetley says. “We will see more jobs open up later this year, hopefully.”
And it appears to be true: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 377,500 job openings are projected each year, with a median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations of $104,420 in May 2023.
For those who are interested in pursuing IT jobs, here are 10 of the field’s top-paying roles.
10. Principal Software Engineer
Top-paying companies: Microsoft, USAA, MITRE
Description: Principal Software Engineers lead teams of engineers to create high-quality, scalable software to achieve an organization’s goals. This role develops and tests software; they are also responsible for reviewing code written by other engineers, identifying the right technology to meet an organization’s needs, and creating architecture for complex software systems.
Average base salary: $111,822, according to Indeed .

9. Information Security and Cybersecurity Engineers and Architects

Description: Information Security and Cybersecurity Engineers and Architects are IT professionals who work alongside developers to make sure that software, systems, applications, and networks are secure.

Microsoft teams up with Khan Academy to make the Khanmigo AI teaching assistant free
M icrosoft and non-profit educational organization Khan Academy have formed a partnership that will allow all K-12 educators in the US to access the pilot version of Khanmigo for Teachers at no cost. Khanmigo is an AI-powered teaching assistant that can help teachers find ways to make lessons more fun and engaging. it will also recommend assignments, display information on a student's performance so that teachers can assess their progress and provide resources educators can use to refresh their knowledge.
The tool can also quickly create lesson plans and suggest student groups for team activities. Khan Academy says Khanmigo can save teachers an average of five working hours every week. The service previously cost educators $4 a month, but Khan Academy has dropped those fees since its Microsoft partnership allows it to use the Azure OpenAI Service to power Khanmigo for free.
As part of their collaboration, Khan Academy will also help Microsoft train the company's Phi-3 small language models (SLMs) and develop its AI-powered math tutoring capabilities. The organization will give the company access to explanatory educational materials it can feed Phi-3, such as step-by-step guides on how to solve math problems. Khan Academy is hoping that SLMs like Phi-3, which can run locally on devices, will eventually be able to provide teaching help and tutoring for teachers and students in resource-strapped regions. Microsoft will also add more content from Khan Academy to Copilot and Teams for Education so that more people can access the organization's educational library.

In January 2024, CDC awarded $4.35 billion through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant ( OE22-2203: Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems ) to help U.S. health departments promote and protect health in their communities.
The total award includes $4.01 billion for health departments and $340 million for three national public health partners.

Funding was awarded to:
- One hundred seven (107) public health departments in all 50 states, Washington D.C., 8 territories/freely associated states, and 48 large localities (cities serving a population of 400,000 or more and counties serving a population of 2,000,000 or more based on the 2020 U.S. Census). Award amounts were based on a funding formula that included population size and community resilience. As of January 2024, a total of $4.01 billion for health departments [$3.685 billion in fiscal year (FY)23 and $325 million in FY24] has been awarded. Recipient-specific information is provided on the Health Department Profiles .
- Three national partners that support the work of the 107 funded health departments. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) , National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) , and Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) received a total of $340 million ($155 million in FY23 and $185 million in FY24) . These organizations provide training and technical assistance, evaluate the program, and facilitate coordination and communication across recipients and CDC.
Strategies and outcomes
The three strategies of this grant are Workforce, Foundational Capabilities, and Data Modernization. Recipients are expected to achieve several key outcomes by the end of the 5-year performance period (see image below). Ultimately, this grant will lead to accelerated prevention, preparedness, and response to emerging health threats. Improved outcomes in other public health areas are also anticipated.

- Data and evidence drive planning and implementation.
- Partnerships play a critical role in grant program success.
- Resources are directed to support diversity and health equity.
