కరోనా వైరస్‌, లాక్‌డౌన్‌ కారణంగా థియేటర్లు తెరిచే పరిస్థితి లేకపోవడంతో చాలా సినిమాలు ఓటీటీ వేదికగా సందడి చేస్తున్నాయి. రాబోయే రోజుల్లో మరికొన్ని చిత్రాలు సైతం అలరించనున్నాయి. మరోవైపు ఇతర భాషల్లో విడుదలైన విజయవంతమైన చిత్రాలను తెలుగులో డబ్‌ చేసి విడుదల చేస్తున్నాయి ఓటీటీ సంస్థలు. అలా విడుదలైన చిత్రాల్లో ‘జల్లికట్టు’ ఒకటి. మలయాళంలో ఘన విజయం సాధించిన ఈ చిత్రం ‘ఆహా’ ఓటీటీ వేదికగా విడుదలైంది. అనేక అంతర్జాతీయ చలనచిత్రోత్సవాల్లో ప్రదర్శితమై విమర్శకులను సైతం మెప్పించిన ‘జల్లికట్టు’ ఎలా ఉంది? అంగామలై డైరీస్‌ వంటి చిత్రాన్ని తెరకెక్కించి అందరి ప్రశంసలు అందుకున్న జోస్‌ పెల్లిస్సరీ ఈ సినిమాను ఎలా తెరకెక్కించాడు?

కథేంటంటే: అనంతపురం జిల్లా భైరవకొండ ప్రాంతంలో విన్సెంట్‌ ( చెంబన్‌ వినోద్‌), తన సహాయకుడు ఆంటోని(ఆంటోని వర్ఘీస్‌)తో కలిసి బీఫ్‌ అమ్ముతుంటాడు. ఆ ప్రాంతంలో విన్సెంట్‌ అమ్మే బీఫ్‌కు ఎంతో పేరుంది. ఎప్పటిలాగే ఒకరోజు తెల్లవారుజామున ఓ అడవి దున్నను నరకడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్న క్రమంలో అది తప్పించుకుని ఊరి మీద పడుతుంది. ఎదురుపడిన వాళ్లను కుమ్ముకుంటూ, అడ్డు వచ్చిన వాటిని తొక్కుతుంటూ వెళ్తుంది. దీంతో ఊళ్లోని వారందరూ ఆ అడవి దున్నను పట్టుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తుంటారు. తుపాకీ వాడకంలో చేయి తిరిగిన కుట్టచన్‌ (సబూమన్‌)ను పిలిపిస్తారు. దీంతో గుంపులుగా విడిపోయి అందరూ ఆ దున్నను బంధించడానికి సిద్ధమవుతారు. మరి ఊరి వాళ్లంతా కలిసి ఆ అడవి దున్నను బంధించారా? లేక హతమార్చారా? ఈ క్రమంలో ఎవరికి ఎలాంటి ఆపద ఎదురైంది? తెలియాలంటే ‘జల్లికట్టు’ చూడాల్సిందే!

ఎలా ఉందంటే: కథగా తీసుకుంటే చాలా చిన్న లైన్‌. కానీ, దర్శకుడు పెల్లిస్సరీ దీన్నొక విజువల్‌ వండర్‌గా తీర్చిదిద్దాడు. సినిమా ప్రారంభమైన కొద్ది సేపటికే అసలు కథేంటో ప్రేక్షకుడికి తెలిసిపోతుంది. అయితే, తప్పించుకున్న దున్నపోతును ఎలా పట్టుకుంటారన్న ఉత్కంఠే సినిమాను ముందుకు నడిపిస్తుంది. ఈ విషయంలో దర్శకుడు నూటికి నూరుపాళ్లు సఫలమయ్యాడు. చావు నుంచి తప్పించుకున్న అడవి జంతువు ప్రాణ భయంతో ఎలాంటి విధ్వంసం సృష్టిస్తోందో నిజ జీవితంలోనూ మనం చాలా సంఘటనలు చూశాం. అవన్నీ వెండితెరపై చూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు దర్శకుడు. విన్సెంట్‌ బృందం ఒకవైపు, కుట్టచన్‌ బృందం మరోవైపు, ఆ ఊళ్లోని యువకులందరూ ఇంకొక బృందంగా విడిపోయి ఆ దున్నపోతును పట్టుకునే ప్రయత్నం ఆసాంతం ప్రేక్షకుడికి ఉత్కంఠ కలిగిస్తుంది.

ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ ఆ దున్నపోతును పట్టుకోవడం ద్వారా తమను తాము హీరోలుగా చూపించుకోవాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తుంటారు. ఈ క్రమంలో వాళ్లు ప్రవర్తించే తీరు, మనిషికి మృగానికీ తేడాలేదనిపిస్తుంది. నిజంగా ఒక దున్నపోతు కోసం మనుషుల ప్రవర్తన ఈ రకంగా మారుతుందా? అంటే చెప్పలేం. నేటి ఆధునిక మానవుడిలోనూ ఆదిమమానవుడు బతికే ఉన్నాడన్న దాన్ని చూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు దర్శకుడు. ఆ రోజుల్లో వేట విషయంలో మనుషుల మధ్య ఆధిపత్య పోరు ఎలా ఉండేదనేది చరిత్ర పుస్తకాల్లో మనం చదివాం. అదే నేటికీ మనుషుల్లో జీవించి ఉందనే విషయాన్ని చెప్పే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు దర్శకుడు. ఇతరుల మెప్పు పొందడానికి ఆ దున్నపోతును తాము పట్టుకున్నట్లు చెప్పుకొనేందుకు ఆంటోని, కుట్టచన్‌ తీసుకునే నిర్ణయాలు ఆ ఊరివాళ్ల జీవితాలపై ప్రభావం చూపుతాయి. అయితే, సీరియస్‌గా సాగుతున్న కథ మధ్యలో వచ్చే కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలు నవ్వు పంచినా, కాస్త ఇబ్బంది అనిపిస్తాయి. చివరిలో అందరూ కలిసి ఆ దున్నపోతును పట్టుకున్నా, ఊహించని ట్విస్ట్‌ ఒకటి ఇచ్చాడు దర్శకుడు. అదేంటో తెలియాలంటే తెరపై చూడాలి.

ఎవరెలా చేశారంటే:  ఆంటోనీ, విన్సెంట్‌, కుట్టచన్‌లుగా కనిపించే ఆంటోనీ వర్గీస్‌, చెంబన్‌ వినోద్‌ జోస్‌, సబుమన్‌ అబ్దుసమద్‌లు తెరపై వారి పాత్రల్లో ఒదిగిపోయారు. పలమనేరు కుర్రాళ్లం అంటూ ఒక యువకుల గుంపు చేసే హడావిడి సరదాగా ఉంటుంది. ఇ క ఈ సినిమా గురించి ప్రధానంగా చెప్పకోవాల్సింది సాంకేతిక వర్గం పనితీరు. మరీ ముఖ్యంగా సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ, నేపథ్య సంగీతం. ఈ రెండూ సినిమాను మరో స్థాయికి తీసుకెళ్లాయి. ప్రతి సన్నివేశం, దానికి అనుగుణంగా వచ్చే సంగీతం ప్రేక్షకుడిలో ఉత్కంఠను కలిగిస్తుంది. ఒక డిఫరెంట్‌ టేకింగ్‌, సంగీతంతో సినిమా మొదలవుతుంది. ఇలాంటి సినిమాలకు సినిమాటోగ్రాఫర్‌గా పనిచేయాలంటే ఎంతో ఓపిక అవసరం. గిరీష్‌ గంగాధరన్‌ ఎంత ఓపికతో పనిచేశారో తెరపై మనకు కనిపిస్తుంది. సినిమా మొత్తం ఒక రోజులో జరిగే కథ కావడంతో, ఎన్నో జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకోవాలి. మరీ ముఖ్యంగా రాత్రివేళ దున్నపోతు కోసం సాగించే వేటను తీర్చిదిద్దిన విధానం, బావిలో పడిన దాన్ని పైకి తీసే సమయంలో లైటింగ్‌ ఎఫెక్ట్‌లు, ఊరి యువకులంతా మూడు బృందాలుగా విడిపోయే సన్నివేశం హైలైట్‌ అని చెప్పొచ్చు.

ప్రశాంత్‌ పిళ్లై అందించిన సంగీతం సినిమాకు బలం. శ్వాసం తీసుకోవడం, గడియారం చప్పుడు, ఇలా చిన్న చిన్న శబ్దాలు కూడా మనల్ని కథలో నిమగ్నమయ్యేలా చేస్తాయి. దీపూ జోసెఫ్‌ ఎడిటింగ్‌ బాగుంది. కథకు ఏ సరకు అవసరమో దాన్ని మాత్రమే తీసుకున్నారు. అంగామలై డైరీస్‌ (తెలుగులో విశ్వక్‌సేన్‌ నటించిన ‘ఫలక్‌నుమా దాస్‌’) తెరకెక్కించిన జోస్‌ పెల్లిస్సరీ నుంచి సినిమా వస్తుందంటే ఆ సినిమా చూసిన ప్రతి ఒక్కరిలోనూ ఆసక్తి ఉంటుంది. అందుకు తగినట్టుగానే ఒక విభిన్న కథను ఎంచుకున్నాడు దర్శకుడు. ప్రతి ఫ్రేమ్‌ను ఉత్కంఠగా తీర్చిదిద్దాడు. అయితే, కథ మధ్యలో వచ్చే ఉప కథలు కాస్త ఇబ్బందిగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ఉత్కంఠతో సాగే కథకు కాస్త స్పీడ్‌ బ్రేకర్లుగా అనిపిస్తాయి. ‘జల్లికట్టు’ ఆట తమిళనాడులో బాగా ప్రాచుర్యం పొందింది. ఆ పేరునే తన సినిమాకు పెట్టుకున్నాడు దర్శకుడు. అయితే, టైటిల్‌కు కథకు పెద్దగా సంబంధం ఉండదు. ఈ సినిమా ద్వారా తానేమీ సందేశాన్ని ఇవ్వటం లేదని ఒక సందర్భంలో పెల్లిస్సరీ చెప్పుకొచ్చాడు. కానీ, నేటి ఆధునిక మనిషిలోనూ ఆదిమమానవుడి ప్రవర్తన దాగి ఉంటుందని, కొన్ని ప్రత్యేక సందర్భాల్లో అది బయటపడుతుందని ‘జల్లికట్టు’లో చూపించాడు.

So, continuing the series of reviewing movies and shows during the lockdown period, our today’s pick is the Telugu dubbed version of the critically acclaimed Jallikattu. The film is available on AHA and let’s see how it is.

The film is based in the forest town of Kerala. Vincent(Chemban Vinod) is a butcher who sells beef in this town. Everyone loves meat and even though they are poor, the villagers manage to buy meat from Vincent on a daily basis. But one fine day, the buffalo which Vincent readies to slaughter escapes somehow and creates a lot of trouble. The rest of the story is as to how various groups in the village try to nab this buffalo and become a hero.

What’s Good

The basic premise of the film is pretty good. How the sport and ancient tradition of Jallikattu are based in a small village and made a story out of it is pretty good. The performances are natural and the best thing about the film is the location.

The real forest locations and rooted politics of the village look good. The subplots of various people trying to nab the buffalo have been established well. There is one scene where the buffalo attacks a bank and goes haywire. This scene has solid thrills and lifts the film. Also, the gripping background score elevates the proceedings well.

The start-up to the main story and how the plot is unleashed looks good. Even though the film is experimental, it has decent thrills. The camera work is stunning and the production design is amazing.

What’s Bad

After having a solid start, the film slows down a bit as many subplots are showcased. Even though they look good, they distract the proceedings a bit. Also, there are many characters in the film and they are not introduced well which leads to a bit of confusion for the normal audience.

After a point, the story does not move and the villagers just keep searching for the buffalo. So many such scenes are showcased way too much in the film which is a letdown. The climax is also rushed and not explained well raising doubts. Also, the scene where the villagers nab the buffalo has also been exaggerated a bit. Final Verdict :

On the whole, Jallikattu is a film that has a very unique and interesting premise. The realistic nature of the film and rustic performances are basic highlights. The film has a crisp runtime and is gripping for the most part. This is not a regular film and is based in a small town. If you ignore the repetitive scenes and slightly exaggerated climax, this film ends as a passable watch this weekend.

Jallikattu Telugu Web Series: What's Behind

Kollywood webseries Pettaikaali which was released last year in Tamil is now streaming on Aha OTT as Jallikattu from 28 April 2023. The series is generating interest among movie lovers as Vetri Maaran is the showrunner for the webseries. Let us find out what Jallikattu offered to movie lovers.

Jallikattu Web Series (2023): Story Review

Jallikattu story is all about the fight for prestige and honor between two villages, one dominated by the landlords and one by the shepherds. The people of Tamarakulam and Mullavudu villages bordering Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh nudge a grudge against each other for decades. Selvasekharam (Vela Ramamurthy) of Tamarakulam has a bull and his bull is the most dreaded and he takes pride as no one can tame her. Similarly, Pandu (Kalaiyaran), nephew of Muthaiah (Kishore), is renowned across the villages for his bravery in taming bulls.

Muthaiah asks Pandu to use his bravery by getting a police job but his dream is to win the Jalli Kattu at the national level. His aspirations however result in shocking twists. To find out more about it and what is the connection between Thenmozli (Sheela Rajkumar), Veerasekhar (Bala Haasan), and Parthiban (Antony) from the rest of the story.

Jallikattu Web Series: Artists Review

All the actors came up with natural and realistic performances. They resembled the villagers in their makeup and the dialogue delivery looked extremely original. Kishore lived in the role of Muthaiah and he impressed with his dialogue delivery and presence on the screen. Kalaiyarasan took viewers with his expressions and emotions, and screen presence into the story. He showed variations when it came to showing bravery, and courage while taming a bull and then showed the other side while talking with his lady love or his uncle.

Sheela Rajkumar, Bala Haasan, and standup comedian Paathiban made their presence felt on the screen with their performances. The performances of the entire cast added value to the webseries.

Jallikattu Web Series: Technicians Review

The story of Jalli Kattu penned by Rajkumar and presided by Vetri Maaran has the shades of Vetri Maaran genre. The story spoke about the villagers or people going to any extent for their honor and prestige and the differences between haves and have-nots, rich and poor, oppressors and the oppressed.

Rajkumar added the Jallikattu backdrop to the village and rural story and it generated interest among movie lovers. The webseries is narrated in 8 episodes and Rajkumar took his own sweet time keeping in view Vetri Maaran's style. The pace is slow and tests the patience of the viewers. The story, Screenplay, and direction follow Vetri Maaran's format and there is nothing new.

Those who are familiar with Vetri Maaran's style of taking find it nothing new and even for others, the slow pace doesn't excite them. There are a few twists and turns here and there but one needs patience to enjoy them. The Jalli Kattu culture is highlighted and the entire series is loaded with Tamil nativity and flavor. Those who come from TN-AP border districts will enjoy the series.

The cinematography captured the village atmosphere quite naturally in an appealing and beautiful manner. The bullfights and Jalli Kattu atmosphere is recreated on the screen giving an original feel giving a delightful treat to movie lovers. Background music elevated the scenes and made a good impact in increasing the intensity levels. Dialogues of Vetri Maaran and Rajkumar are thought-provoking and powerful. Dialogues talking about courage, taming the leader, and haves and have not, etc made an impact. Editing left a lot to be desired. There are many lags and this slowed the pace of the film. Production values are decent.

Altogether, Jallikattu's story is a typical Vetri Maaran product and offers nothing new. People will be reminded of his earlier films like Asuran, Karnan and others. Those who love realistic stories and narration will love it and others will find it tedious. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 1.5 rating for Jallikattu Web Series .

A rampaging buffalo transforms men into beasts in India’s Oscar submission from Lijo Jose Pellissery.

In a small village in tropical Kerala in the south of India, civilized society breaks down after a buffalo gets loose and the villagers mindlessly join in the hunt. Veteran director Lijo Jose Pellissery returns to the theme of mob violence he handled so well in the 2017 Angamaly Diaries , which pitted local gangs against each other with tragi-comic flair. There’s nothing funny about the darkly symbolic tale Jallikattu , adapted from a short story by S. Hareesh, which builds dangerous primal instincts into a crescendo of violence, in imagery recalling Indian horror films. The symbolism may be a bit heavy-handed for offshore viewers, though in India the film has won multiple prizes and has been picked as India’s Academy Award hopeful in the International Feature category .

In a disquieting intro, this Christian town of hot-tempered macho men is depicted as a fevered pack of glutinous carnivores who obsess over their next meal of meat. That includes pork and beef, two products that are frowned upon or even banned in Hindu and Muslim India. Here instead huge shanks of hoofed red meat dangle provocatively on hooks in the open-air butcher shop of surly Kalan Varkey (Chemban Vinod Jose). When a big bull buffalo decides to escape that fate and runs rampaging over cultivated fields, the men of the village are hot at the chase, lusting to kill it.

The Bottom Line Amorphous violence explodes in a darkly unsettling tale.

It’s all quite a disorganized hodge-podge, with the muscular searcher Antony (Antony Varghese, a Pellissery regular) particularly determined to capture it. To be on the safe side, the butcher calls in the ruthless ex-con Kuttachan (Sabumon Abdusamad), who hates Antony’s guts. Clearly a showdown is in sight, and the final scenes of a frenzied mob out for carnage snowball into a nauseating climax.

Twice winner of the best director award at the International Film Festival of India, Pellissery is a leading indie filmmaker with a wide popular and critical following, known for his bold filmmaking and getting the most out of south India settings. But while the location work is colorful and vivid, the characters are not. It’s fair to say that the little village nestled in forestland is far more memorable than its residents, who are barely individualized beyond their roles as the butcher, the priest, the wife-slapper, the ornery out-of-towner.

Anyway, the cast soon merges together into a mob, and as the pace quickens, it’s hard to distinguish who is throwing themselves into free-for-alls or carrying torches through a nighttime forest. So the raw emotion is there, though some nuance and subtlety would have enriched the obvious if always timely takeaway that a mob turns us into primitive savages. While the actors struggle to emerge from the chorus, the one character everybody will be rooting for is the bull, a triumph of old-tech animatronics (think the shark in Jaws ) whose silicon-and-hair body with a stunt man inside is majestic and noble-looking in the midst of the depraved humans. A tip of the hat to production designer Gokul Das and his team.

Another standout credit is Renganaath Ravee’s startling sound design, a skin-crawling sampling of natural sounds, drumbeats and the like that underlie the action like a cave man’s heartbeat.

'జల్లికట్టు' సినిమా రివ్యూ

  ఓ అడవి దున్నను  పట్టుకోవటానికి ఊరు ఊరంతా కదిలి పరుగులు తీస్తే  ఎలా ఉంటుంది...అసలు ఎలా ఎక్కడైనా జరుగుతుందా...ఇవేమన్నా ఆది మానవుడు రోజులా...బరెసలు, కత్తులు వేసుకుని అడవి దున్న వెనకబడటానికి ...వినటానికే విచిత్రంగా ఉంది కదా..కానీ అలాంటి సందర్బంకి  ముందు,వెనక కరెక్ట్ గా  ఉంటే ఖచ్చితంగా అదంతా మన ఎదురుగానే జరుగుదతున్నట్లు ఉంటుంది. మన మెదుడుని కంట్రోలు లోకి తెచ్చుకుని కన్వీన్స్ చేస్తుంది.  ఇదిగో ఈ సినిమా అలాంటిదే. ఆ మధ్యన మళయాళంలో వచ్చిన  ఈ జల్లికట్టు.. సినిమాలోపాయింట్ అదే. రిలీజుకి ముందే అనేక ఇంటర్నేషనల్ మూవీ ఫెస్టివల్స్లో ప్రదర్శనకి సెలక్ట్ అయిందీ ఈ మలయాళం మూవీ.. టొరంటో ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ ఫిల్మ్‌ ఫెస్టివల్‌, బుసాన్‌ ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ ఫిల్మ్‌ ఫెస్టివల్స్‌లో ప్రదర్శితమై విమర్శకుల మెప్పు పొందింది. ఇంటర్నేషనల్‌ ఫిల్మ్‌ ఫెస్టివల్‌ ఆఫ్‌ ఇండియా వేడుకలో పెల్లిస్సరీ ఉత్తమ దర్శకుడిగా అవార్డు అందుకున్నారు.ఇప్పుడు తెలుగులో డబ్బింగ్ అయ్యి..ఆహాలో  కూడా వచ్చింది. ఏమిటి ఈ సినిమాలో గొప్పతనం..అసలు కథేంటి.. వంటి విషయాలు రివ్యూలో చూద్దాం. 

కేరళలోని ఓ అటవీ ప్రాంతం దగ్గరలో ఓ ఊరు. విన్సెంట్ (వినోద్) ఊరందరికీ బీఫ్ ని సరఫరా చేస్తూంటాడు. అతను తెచ్చి అమ్మే అడవి దున్న మాంసం అంటే అక్కడ వాళ్లకు పిచ్చి. ఓ రోజు ఎప్పటిలాగే విన్సెంట్ ...ఓ అడవి దున్న ని నరకటానికి సిద్దపడతాడు. అంతే అది ఒక్కసారిగా తప్పించుకుంటుంది. అక్కడ నుంచి అది ఊరుని తన పశు బలంతో వణికేలా చేస్తుంది. షాపులు కూల్చేస్తోంది. బ్యాంక్ లోకి వెళ్లి పర్నిచర్ నాశనం చేస్తుంది. అడవిలాంటి   ఊళ్ళోకి పారిపోయి పంట పొలాల్ని నాశనం చేస్తూ, అందర్నీ తన పదునైన కొమ్ములతో కుమ్మి వదులుతుంది.దాంతో   ఆ అడవి దున్నను పట్టుకుని చంపాని గ్రూప్ లుగా ఆ ఊరి జనం బయిలుదేరతారు. వారిలో పశు ప్రవృత్తి నిద్రలేస్తుంది. ఉచ్చం,నీచం అన్నది మర్చిపోయినట్లుగా రెచ్చిపోయి బిహేవ్ చేస్తారు. ఆ రాత్రంతా ఆ అడవి దున్న వేటలో ఆ ఊరు జనం తరిస్తారు. తెల్లారే లోగా దాన్ని పట్టుకోపోతే ..ఇక దాన్ని ఆపటం కష్టం అని వాళ్లందిరికీ తెలుసు. ఈ క్రమంలో ఆ రాత్రి, ఆ అడవిలో ..అడవి దున్న వేటలో అనేక సంఘనటలు జరుగుతాయి. అవేంటి..చివరకి అడవి దున్న ని వాళ్లు పట్టుకోగలిగారా...ఇందులో  పోలీస్ ల పాత్ర ఏమిటి..వంటి విషయాలు తెలియాలంటే సినిమా చూడాల్సిందే.     ఎలా ఉంది

నిజానికి ఇలాంటి స్టోరీ లైన్ తో సినిమా చేయటం కత్తి మీద సామే. అయితే దర్శకుడు దాన్ని అలవోకగా సాధించేసాడు. సినిమా ప్రారంభమైన కాసేపటికి మనం ఓ కొత్త ప్రపంచంలోకి అడుగు పెట్టి అనిపిస్తుంది. తెలియకుండానే మనం కూడా ఆ అడవి దున్న వేటలో భాగస్వాములం అయ్యిపోతాము. ఆదిమ మానవుల నాటి పశు ప్రవృత్తి మన జీన్స్ లో ఇంకా నిద్రాణమై ఉందని, అది అవకాసం వచ్చినప్పుడు బయిటకు వస్తుందని మనకు అర్దమవుతుంది. అందుకే ఓ రాత్రి జరిగే కథగా ఈ సినిమాని చెప్పినట్లు ఉన్నాడు దర్శకుడు. అలాగే కొంత కాల వ్యవధిలో జరిగే ఈ కథను తీర్చి దిద్దే ప్రయత్నం చేయటంలో టైమ్ లాక్ పడి,ఉత్సుకత పెరిగింది. టైమ్ అండ్ టెన్షన్ ఎలిమెంట్ కు ఈ సినిమాలో ప్రయారిటీ బాగా ఇచ్చారు. అదే సినిమాని నిలబెట్టింది. 

అయితే ఈ సినిమాని ఒకే ప్లాట్ గా చెప్తే బోర్ వస్తుందనుకున్నాడో ఏమో కానీ, సబ్ ప్లాట్స్ ని కలిపారు. కానీ అవి కథలో కలిసినట్లు అనిపించవు. తెల్లారి నిశ్చితార్గం అవ్వాల్సిన  ఓ అమ్మాయి అదే రాత్రి లేచిపోయే ప్రయత్నం చేయటం, నిశ్చితార్ధపు విందులో బీఫ్ మాంసం కూర తప్పనిసరిగా ఉండి తీరాలనే ఆ తండ్రి తాపత్రయం వంటివి కథలో కలిసినట్లు అనిపించవు. అలాగే సినిమా సెకండాఫ్ లో ఆగిపోయినట్లు అనిపిస్తుంది. ఎంతసేపు జనాలు అడవి దున్న కోసం పరుగులు పెట్టడమే తప్ప..కథలో పరుగు కాదు..అడుగు కూడా పడదు. 

దర్శకుడు నేర్పరితనం, మిగతా డిపార్టమెంట్స్

ఈ సినిమాలో ప్రత్యేకంగా చెప్పుకోవాల్సింది. దర్శకుడి విజువలైజేషన్. తన సినీ నేత్రంతో సీన్స్ ఊహించి మనను అక్కడకి తీసుకెళ్లి కూర్చోబెడతాడు. ఓ రకంగా ఎట్మాస్ఫియర్ కూడా ఈ సినిమాలో ఓ పాత్ర. అలాగే డిటేలింగ్ చాలా ఇంపార్టెన్స్ ఇవ్వటంతో మన మనస్సులో ఆ సీన్స్ ముద్ర వేసుకుంటాయి. క్యారక్టర్స్ మనకు పూర్తిగా పరిచయం చేయడు. వాళ్ల చేష్టలు..వాటి నుంచి పుట్టే సంఘటనలతో మనకు అర్దమయ్యేలా చేస్తాడు. దాంతో తెలియకుండానే ఆ  పాత్రలపై మనకు ఆసక్తి పెరిగిపోతుంది. అలాంటి మ్యాజిక్ లు  ఈసినిమాలో చాలా కనపిస్తాయి. అలాగే  ఈ సినిమాని మరో భుజంపై మోసింది..బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్. అలాంటి రీరికార్డింగ్, ఆర్ ఆర్ మనకు అరుదుగా కనిపిస్తాయి..సారీ వినిపిస్తాయి. అంటే దర్శకుడు టెక్నికల్ స్టాడర్డ్స్ ఏ స్దాయిలో ఊహించుకోవచ్చు. ఇక మిగతా డిపార్టమెంట్స్ విషయానికి వస్తే..సినిమాలో కెమెరా వర్క్ కష్టం స్పష్టంగా కనపడుతుంది. కొన్ని షాట్స్ ఎలా తీసారో అని ఆశ్చర్యం  వేస్తుంది.

Jallikattu movie review: An exhilarating ride

Jallikattu movie review: the film works as both real-time exploration of the human psyche as well as a parable, and we are left both laughing and gasping, as the animal seems to be one-up on the collective smarts of the humans..

A water buffalo is on the loose in a Kerala village, and there is, naturally, an uproar. Groups of men gather to go after the beast. The game is on, and we are let into trademark Lijo Jose Pellissery territory: a layered exposition of masculinity and toxicity, and a savage comment on how power structures keep both men and women captive, and bound to their roles.

The buffalo is a technological marvel. It looks fully real, as it goes crashing through the village roads, and the undergrowth. As the chase heats up and becomes more intense, Pellissery keeps taking moments to create real characters, who display wiles and bile, old animosities and new lustful connections, as we are led towards the question that the film wants to ask: is there any difference between humans and animals? Who is more humane?

That people are complicated is a truism. As is what you see sometimes is not what you get. Jallikattu works as both real-time exploration of the human psyche as well as a parable, and we are left both laughing and gasping, as the animal seems to be one-up on the collective smarts of the humans.

Many familiar faces from the director’s previous movies (Angamaly Diaries, Ee Ma Yau) are here: the good-looking Varghese, the impactful Jose, and many others. And like he did in his older ones, he manages to create both a carnival and a burlesque in this universe where absurdities pile up and up, leading to a climax, which feels just right even while overstating its case, just a tad.

Jallikattu is an exhilarating ride, which also makes you think. At the end of the day, as the cliche goes, is life all about a chase, as we search for grace?

'విడుదల పార్ట్ 1'తో వెట్రిమారన్ తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు వచ్చి రెండు వారాలు కూడా పూర్తి కాలేదు. ఇప్పుడు 'జల్లికట్టు' వెబ్ సిరీస్ (Jallikattu Web Series)తో వచ్చారు. అయితే, దీనికి ఆయన దర్శకుడు కాదు... నిర్మాత! 'ఆహా' కోసం రూపొందిన ఎక్స్‌క్లూజివ్ సిరీస్ ఇది. తమిళంలో గతేడాది అక్టోబర్ 21న విడుదల చేశారు. ఇప్పుడు తెలుగు అనువాదం విడుదలైంది. ఈ సిరీస్ ఎలా ఉందంటే?

కథ (Jallikattu Web Series Story) : తమిళనాడులో తామర కులానికి చెందిన ప్రజలకు, పశుసంపద జీవనాధారంగా బతుకున్న వ్యవసాయ కూలీల వర్గానికి తరాలుగా శత్రుత్వం ఉంది. అందువల్ల, జల్లికట్టులో తామర కులానికి చెందిన ఎద్దులను ఎవరూ పట్టుకోకూడదని వ్యవసాయ కూలీల పెద్దలు నిర్ణయిస్తారు. ఆ నిర్ణయాన్ని పక్కన పెట్టి మరీ ముత్తయ్య (కిశోర్) మేనల్లుడు పాండు (కలైయారసన్) తామర కులానికి చెందిన జమీందార్ సెల్వ శేఖరన్ (వేల రామమూర్తి) ఎద్దును పట్టుకుంటాడు. ఆ తర్వాత పాండి హత్యకు గురవుతాడు. 

పాండును చంపింది ఎవరు? ఆ తర్వాత కొన్ని రోజులకు మళ్ళీ తామర కులం జల్లికట్టులో దింపిన ఎద్దును పట్టుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నించిన స్టాండప్ కమెడియన్ పార్తీబన్ (ఆంటోనీ) ఎవరు? ప్రతి జల్లికట్టులో ఎవరికీ లొంగని ఎద్దు (వేట కాళీ) అతనికి ఎలా లొంగింది? అతనిపై ఆ ఎద్దును పెంచిన అమ్మాయి తేన్ మౌళి (షీలా రాజ్ కుమార్) అన్నయ్య మనుషులు హత్యా ప్రయత్నం చేసిన తర్వాత ఏమైంది? పేరు కోసం, పరువు కోసం రెండు వర్గాల మధ్య జరిగిన పోరులో సెల్వ శేఖరన్ కుమారుడి పాత్ర ఏమిటి? ఎవరెవరి ప్రాణాలు పోయాయి? చివరికి ఏమైంది? అనేది సిరీస్ చూసి తెలుసుకోవాలి.  

విశ్లేషణ (Jallikattu Web Series Telugu Review) : జల్లికట్టు సంప్రదాయం గురించి తెలుగు ప్రజలకు కూడా అవగాహన ఉంది. రెండు వర్గాల మధ్య ఆ సంప్రదాయం ఎటువంటి వైరానికి దారి తీసింది? ప్రేమ ఎంత పని చేసింది? అగ్ర వర్ణాల చేతిలో కూలీలు ఏ విధంగా ప్రాణాలు కోల్పోయారు? అనే అంశాలను మేళవించి 'జల్లికట్టు' సిరీస్ తీశారు.

'జల్లికట్టు' కథ, కథనాలు వెట్రిమారన్ శైలిలో సాగాయి. ఆయన సినిమాల్లో మనకు కనిపించే అంశాలు ఇందులోనూ ఉన్నాయి. సాధారణంగా వెట్రిమారన్ సినిమాలు నిదానంగా సాగుతాయనే విమర్శ ఉంది. ఆయన నిర్మించిన సిరీస్ నెమ్మదిగా సాగింది. వెబ్ సిరీస్ కావడంతో దర్శకుడు రాజ్ కుమార్ మరింత నెమ్మదిగా తీశారు. పూర్తిగా తమిళ నేటివిటీతో సాగే సిరీస్ ఇది.

వెట్రిమారన్ దర్శకత్వం వహించిన 'అసురన్' (తెలుగులో 'నారప్ప'), 'కర్ణన్'లో కొన్ని సన్నివేశాలకు, ఈ వెబ్ సిరీస్ లో సన్నివేశాలకు చాలా సారూప్యతలు ఉన్నాయి.  ముఖ్యంగా క్యారెక్టరైజేషన్స్ విషయంలో! అగ్ర వర్ణాలకు ఎదురెళ్ళిన మేనల్లుడిని కాపాడుకోవడం కోసం కొండల్లోకి ముత్తయ్య తీసుకు వెళ్లడం 'నారప్ప'ను గుర్తు చేస్తుంది. అగ్ర వర్ణాల అహంకార పూరిత ధోరణి, అధికార దర్పం, పేరు ప్రతిష్ఠల కోసం చేసే పోరాటంలో బలహీన వర్గాల ప్రజలు ఏ విధంగా ఇబ్బందులు పడ్డారు? అనేది కథాంశం. స్లో పేస్ చాలా ఇబ్బంది పెడుతుంది. అయితే, 'జల్లికట్టు' నేపథ్యం ఈ కథకు కొత్త హంగులు, రంగులు అద్దింది. ఆర్టిస్టుల ఇంటెన్స్ యాక్టింగ్, టేకింగ్ కారణంగా సిరీస్ కొత్తగా కనబడుతుంది. ఎమోషన్స్ వర్కవుట్ అయ్యాయి. 

వయసులో తన కొడుకు కంటే చిన్నదైన మేనకోడలిని జమీందార్ బలవంతంగా పెళ్లి చేసుకోవడం కథకు అవసరం లేదేమో అనిపిస్తుంది. అయితే, ఆ అమ్మాయి ప్రేమించిన అబ్బాయి మరణం, దానికి వేట కాళీకి కనెక్ట్ చేసిన తీరు బావుంది. కొన్ని సీన్లు థ్రిల్ ఇస్తాయి. సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ, మ్యూజిక్ సిరీస్ థీమ్ రిఫ్లెక్ట్ చేసేలా ఉన్నాయి. 

నటీనటులు ఎలా చేశారు? : కిశోర్ మినహా తెలుగు ప్రేక్షకులకు తెలిసిన ఆర్టిస్టులు తక్కువ. ముత్తయ్య పాత్రలో కిశోర్ ఫెంటాస్టిక్ పెర్ఫార్మన్స్ ఇచ్చారు. పాండు పాత్రలో కలైయరసన్ నటించినట్టు లేదు... జీవించారు. తేన్ మౌళి పాత్రలో షీలా రాజశేఖర్ నటన బావుంది. మిగతా నటీనటులు పాత్రల పరిధి మేరకు నటించారు.
