  • Erich C. Dierdorff

management in daily life essay

Your productivity hinges on these three skills.

There is certainly no shortage of advice — books and blogs, hacks and apps — all created to boost time management with a bevy of ready-to-apply tools. Yet, the frustrating reality for individuals trying to improve their time management is that tools alone won’t work. You have to develop your time management skills in three key areas: awareness, arrangement, and adaptation. The author offers evidence-based tactics to improve in all three areas.

Project creep, slipping deadlines, and a to-do list that seems to get longer each day — these experiences are all too common in both life and work. With the New Year’s resolution season upon us, many people are boldly trying to fulfill goals to “manage time better,” “be more productive,” and “focus on what matters.” Development goals like these are indeed important to career success. Look no further than large-scale surveys that routinely find time management skills among the most desired workforce skills, but at the same time among the rarest skills to find.

Essay on Time Management (1)

“Time isn’t the main thing, it’s the only thing”- Mile Davis.

Time management is a prestigious topic for budding subconscious minds. It is one of the most crucial skills that you must inculcate from early on. This skill has vital importance when you move into a professional setting. It is extremely important to manage time efficiently as not managing time can create many problems in your day-to-day life. It is also a common essay topic in the school curriculum and various academic and competitive exams like IELTS , TOEFL , SAT , UPSC , etc. This blog brings you samples of essays on time management with tips & tricks on how to write an essay.

Essay on Time Management in 200 words

Time stops for none and is equal for all. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day but some people make better use of time than others. This is one of the most important reasons some people are experts in what they do. Therefore, time management plays a vital role in both personal as well as professional lives.

Time management is basically an effort made consciously to spend a certain amount of time performing a task efficiently. Furthermore, it is estimated that to have better results, one needs to do productive work. Thus, productivity is the key focus here. Moreover, maintaining a careful balance between professional life, social life, and any other hobbies or activities is a great example of efficient time management.

Time management is also crucial for students from an academic perspective as students require to cover many subjects. Thus, efficiently managing time is an important skill in everyone’s life.  Around the world, there are two views for time management – linear time view and multi-active time view. The linear time view is predominant in America, Germany and England, and it aims at completing one task at a time. Whereas a multi-active view aims at completing a number at once and is predominant in India and Spain. Nevertheless, time management is one of the important traits of a successful individual, students are advised to follow whichever is convenient for them.

Essay on Time Management in 300 Words

Time Management is a key skill for job opportunities as employers recruit candidates who have this efficient skill. Thus, it is advised to initiate inculcating this vital skill as soon as possible. In the academic setting, time management plays a vital role and helps in the accomplishment of tasks efficiently and effectively.

Time management is the process of planning and performing pre-scheduled activities with the aim of increasing productivity, effectiveness and efficiency. Different cultures hold different views on Time Management. However, a multi-active time view and a linear time view are the two predominant views. In a linear time view, the aim is set to complete one particular task at a time whereas, in a multi-active view, the focus is on completing a greater number of tasks at once. Emphasis is given on productivity and effectiveness, but students are free to choose their own view of time management.

Time management is crucial as it is helpful in setting a timeline for achieving a particular goal. Moreover, it also increases the efficiency of the tasks at hand. It becomes necessary for working professionals as they need to balance their personal and professional life. Thus, they do not have time to dwell on each and every detail in every task. In such cases, a multi-active view is one of the helpful methods. Time management works best when a goal or target is set. For instance, a student becomes far more effective at learning when they decide to assign 2 hours for learning a particular concept. This is effectively a method of benchmarking progress. So, every time the activity is performed, one can measure themselves and improve upon various aspects of their tasks. The clear conclusion is that time management is a crucial skill for students and working professionals. Thus, everyone must practise time management to improve productivity and efficiency of tasks.

management in daily life essay

Time Management in Everyday Life Research Paper

Time management is of the essence when it comes to completing everyday tasks and assignments. It has an effect on various things, such as work, home and even health. In order to work on time management one must improve on procrastination. Procrastination is pivotal in coping with anxiety and other stress that is an inevitable part of our day to day lives. Time management is the most important aspect in our lives and the sooner we realize this, the better.

The most successful people carry this off with ease but the people who fail to follow this never become successful. This paper will throw light upon important aspects of time management and how it can make any person who follows it extensively a very successful person.

Managers and other people who hold important positions know how crucial time management is? People who while away time can never realize the importance of time. Time management should be imbibed in the youth at a very early stage so that they don’t while away the time as they grow up.

If we become successful in doing so, the world would surely become more progressive than ever before. Time and tide wait for none and this is a very old saying but at the very same time it is extremely important to realize and absorb the essence of the same. An aircraft can crash if the pilot delays an important action even by a micro second, the damage this causes is usually beyond repair and the same largely outlines the importance of time. This has to be taken into consideration and a plan of action must be adopted by everyone.

Making productive use of time can have instant results; a person working at a lower position in an office can make tremendous progress if that employee makes good use of the time available. The example of a plane and the pilot is a very classic example that proves the worth of time. The top level managers find 24 hours very less because they work their hearts out and they get so involved in their job that they forget about all the other less important things.

There is a lot to learn from all those people who make the most of the 24 hours in the day. People have lost their ability to learn from other people and the will power of the people is also constantly decreasing, all these factors make it really difficult to ensure that people learn from other successful people.

To conclude it is very fair to say that the people should not at any cost while away their time because lost time will never be back. Successful people should make it a point to take some time off from their busy schedule and tell the other not so successful people about the importance of time and this is how the society can progress as a unit. The problem here is the selfish attitude of the people, the successful people who make the most of the 24 hours in a day want to be more successful and they don’t want to devote any time for the less successful people. All this has to change in order to ensure that the society grows as a team with all the members of the team backing each and every member.

The Benefits of Good Time Management

As someone who has struggled with time management in the past, I can attest to the many advantages and benefits of practicing effective time management. By learning to manage time wisely, I have seen improvements in my productivity, stress levels, and overall work-life balance.

One major benefit of good time management is increased productivity. When you prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and plan your time effectively, you can accomplish more in less time. This leaves you with more free time to pursue other interests or simply relax and recharge.

Another benefit of effective time management is reduced stress. When you have a clear understanding of your priorities and a plan for achieving them, you feel less overwhelmed and more in control of your workload. This can lead to decreased levels of stress and anxiety.

Finally, good time management can improve your work-life balance. By managing time effectively, you can ensure that you have time for work, leisure, and personal relationships. This can help you lead a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Overall, the benefits of practicing good time management are numerous and significant. By taking the time to develop your time management skills, you can achieve greater success and happiness both in your personal and professional life.

Key Time Management Skills

Effective time management requires several key skills, each of which plays a critical role in maximizing productivity and achieving personal and professional goals. Here are some of the most important skills to develop:

These skills are closely related and often overlap. For example, effective prioritization requires goal-setting and planning, while successful delegation requires trust-building and communication skills. Developing these skills is crucial for anyone looking to improve their time management abilities and achieve greater success in their personal and professional lives.

Creating a Time Management System

Techniques for Effective Time Management

Managing your time effectively can be a daunting task, but with the right techniques, it can be done. Here are some practical tips and techniques for managing your time effectively:

  • Create to-do lists: Writing down your tasks for the day on a to-do list can help you stay organized and focused. Start with the most important tasks and work your way down.
  • Use time-blocking: Time-blocking involves scheduling specific amounts of time for each task on your to-do list. This can help you stay disciplined and avoid distractions.
  • Utilize technology tools: There are numerous tools available to help you manage your time, such as productivity apps, scheduling software, and time-tracking tools. Find the ones that work best for you.
  • Avoid procrastination: Procrastination can be a major time-waster. Try breaking tasks into smaller, more manageable steps to make them less overwhelming.

By using these techniques, you can become more productive and efficient with your time. Remember, effective time management is a key component of success in both your academic and personal life.

Strategies to Overcome Time Management Challenges

Managing my time effectively can be a challenge, especially when distractions arise. Overcoming such challenges may seem daunting, yet it is achievable. Here are some strategies I use to overcome common time management challenges:

Setting Boundaries

One of the most significant challenges I face is being pulled in too many directions at once. To overcome this, I have learned to prioritize my tasks based on importance and urgency. I set boundaries to ensure that I am not interrupted during essential tasks, such as turning off notifications on my phone, closing unnecessary tabs on my computer, and communicating my needs to colleagues.

Practicing Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful technique that helps me stay focused and productive. It involves paying attention to the present moment, increasing awareness of my thoughts and feelings, and reducing stress levels. I practice mindfulness through meditation, deep breathing exercises, and taking short breaks throughout the day to clear my mind.

Seeking Support

It is essential to recognize when I need help and communicate this to others. I seek support from colleagues or family members when necessary, allowing me to delegate tasks to free up more time. I also reach out to mentors or coaches for advice and guidance on time management strategies.

By implementing these strategies, I have been able to overcome time management challenges and achieve my goals effectively.

Strategies for Effective Time Management in HR

The Importance of Prioritization

When it comes to effective time management, one of the most crucial skills to develop is prioritization. By prioritizing the tasks on your to-do list, you can ensure that you’re making the most of your time and focusing on the things that matter most.

To prioritize effectively, it’s important to consider several factors, including the urgency of each task, its level of importance, and how it aligns with your personal goals. When you’re clear on these factors, you can create a system for prioritizing your tasks that works for you.

For example, you may choose to tackle high-priority items first thing in the morning when you’re most alert and focused. Or, you may group similar tasks together to streamline your workflow. The key is to experiment with different approaches and find the one that helps you manage your time most effectively.

Effective prioritization can have a significant impact on your productivity and success. By focusing on the tasks that matter most, you can avoid wasting time on low-priority items that don’t move the needle. You’ll also feel more accomplished and motivated as you make progress on your most important goals.

Effective Goal Setting for Time Management

Setting clear and achievable goals is crucial for managing time effectively. As I mentioned earlier, without goals, we tend to waste time, and we lack a sense of direction and purpose in our daily lives. Therefore, I would like to share with you some tips on how to set SMART goals:

  • Specific: Define your goals in specific terms. Avoid vague and generic statements.
  • Measurable: Make sure your goals are measurable. Determine how you will track progress and measure success.
  • Attainable: Ensure your goals are realistic and achievable. Don’t set yourself up for failure by aiming too high or too low.
  • Relevant: Align your goals with your priorities and values. Make sure they are relevant to your life and aspirations.
  • Time-bound: Set a deadline for achieving your goals. This will help you stay focused and motivated.

By following these guidelines, you can create goals that are effective and meaningful. Remember, goals should be challenging but achievable, and they should inspire you to take action.

How My Task Timer Helps with Task Planning

Planning for Success

Planning is an essential part of effective time management. It involves organizing tasks and activities in a structured manner to optimize productivity. There are different planning approaches that can be used depending on individual preferences and working styles.

One common approach to planning is daily planning. This involves creating a to-do list or schedule for the day ahead. This helps in setting priorities and focusing on the most important tasks. A weekly planning approach can also be useful for individuals with a lot of responsibilities or a packed schedule. This approach involves creating a schedule or to-do list for the week ahead and breaking it down into smaller daily goals. For long-term planning, a monthly or yearly schedule can be created to help in achieving long-term goals.

Creating effective schedules and calendars requires attention to detail and realistic goal-setting. To optimize productivity, it is important to break down larger tasks into smaller, achievable goals. Including estimated timeframes for individual activities can also help in managing time effectively. Additionally, it’s important to review schedules periodically to ensure they remain relevant and adaptable to any changes that may arise.

Delegation and Time Management

Delegation is a crucial skill in time management. By assigning tasks to others, we can free up time to focus on our own priorities. However, effective delegation requires careful consideration and communication.

Firstly, it is important to identify tasks that can be delegated. These may be tasks that are time-consuming but do not require unique skills or knowledge. It is also important to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals that tasks will be assigned to.

When delegating tasks, it is important to communicate clearly and provide sufficient guidance. This includes setting clear expectations and deadlines, and providing any necessary resources or support. It is also important to build trust and allow individuals to take ownership of their assigned tasks.

Effective delegation can not only save time but can also foster a sense of teamwork and collaboration. By sharing responsibilities, we can work towards shared goals and achieve greater success.

Time Management Techniques for Goal-Oriented Individuals

Self-Discipline and Time Management

Self-discipline plays a critical role in effective time management, and it involves both self-control and motivation. It can be challenging to stick to a schedule, complete tasks on time, and avoid distractions, but developing healthy habits can help.

One of the best ways to improve self-discipline is to create a routine and stick to it. Consistency is key, so try to wake up and go to bed at the same time each day. This will help regulate your body’s natural clock and make it easier to stay on track.

Eliminating distractions is another effective way to boost self-discipline. Turn off your phone, block social media or email notifications, and designate a distraction-free workspace to help you concentrate on the task at hand.

Finally, it’s important to stay motivated and avoid burnout when managing time. Take breaks as needed, reward yourself for meeting goals, and remember why effective time management is so crucial for achieving success.

The Power of Time Awareness

As I’ve discussed throughout this essay , effective time management requires a conscious effort to prioritize tasks, set achievable goals, plan ahead, delegate responsibilities, and exercise self-discipline. However, without a fundamental awareness of time, these efforts may be in vain.

Time awareness is the ability to perceive time passing and understand how long tasks take to complete. It is easy to get lost in the moment and lose track of time, resulting in missed deadlines and increased stress. By developing time awareness, we can optimize productivity and achieve a better work-life balance.

Unfortunately, many of us engage in time-wasting behaviors that hinder our time awareness. For example, spending hours mindlessly scrolling through social media or taking on too many tasks at once can create a sense of time scarcity and perpetuate a cycle of inefficiency.

By recognizing these behaviors and actively working to improve our time awareness, we can make the most of our time and achieve greater success in both our personal and professional lives.

The Conclusion of the Time Management Essay in English

In conclusion, effective time management is crucial for achieving success in academic and personal life. It helps increase productivity, reduce stress, and achieve a better work-life balance. By implementing the techniques and strategies discussed in this essay, individuals can improve their time management skills and achieve their goals.

Remember to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance, set clear and achievable goals using the SMART framework, plan effectively using daily, weekly, and long-term planning approaches, delegate tasks as needed, and develop self-discipline and healthy habits. Becoming more aware of time and managing it consciously can also contribute to improved time management and productivity.

Don’t wait, start practicing effective time management today! With dedication and effort, anyone can learn and master these skills.

Rick Warren says that in life, one has to set a purpose driven life where they are in charge of their actions (2012). It is from this perspective that I look at myself because I always want to live for something so that at some point when I sit down and look back, I see myself as an achiever. I always want to look within myself and have a reason to smile because of my achievements. Managing oneself well is paramount in every sphere of life. I understand that in life, nothing happens as an accident and therefore people need to properly manage their lives and use their time well in order to be successful. It is from this background that I have sought to integrate the four management functions into my life. These functions include planning, organizing, leading and controlling every aspect of my life. I have sought to use the management process in order to get the best out of life. I have always planned for everything that I do in life. there are those times that I do not do things as per plan but this happens in cases where I have no control over what happens to me. I have always set goals against which a gauge myself. I then look for ways of implementing that which I have planned in an effort to achieve that which I have set to do. Always all the time, I set goals which guide me and act as a reminder of the prize and therefore have got to work hard keeping my eyes on the prize. For instance, I have to work hard in my academics because I know it is the only way that I can make it in my dream career. This has prompted me to set goals which will enable me get good grades. I have always set aside time in the evenings with which to carry out my study outside of the classroom. I always visit the library in order to study and do my assignments. I always decide on the grade that I want to get at the end of the semester and therefore go about doing everything within my powers to achieve that. Secondly, I believe that I am a very organized person. I always have my set of priorities which I work towards achieving. I arrange my tasks in order of priority. For instance, I know that on Sunday mornings before doing anything I have to go to church and thereafter visit a children’s home that is located not very far from my house. It is after this that any other plans for the day can come in. this applies to the people in my life. I arrange these tasks and consult the people I know can help me accomplish them. I stretch out to seek help whenever I need it in order to accomplish that which I have set out to accomplish. I always want to lead by example. All my life I have wanted to be a good role model for people to emulate and look up to. I work hard at everything I do so as to do my family and me good. Whenever I get somebody stuck with a task that I believe I can help them do, I chip in when necessary. I have always been recommended to help out with children in my local church and fellow youths. It is at this point that I counsel them more especially when it comes to avoiding bad company that may ruin their morals. Drug abuse has been a major problem in our generation today and whenever I get a chance, I talk to my friends on the dangers of use of drugs. This way I believe I help others by telling them what is right and what is not. I am in charge of everything that I do because it takes proper planning and execution. This way I stay in control of my actions and this has always led me to succeed. The goals that I set to abide by act as a control measure because whenever I get out of track, they act as reminder of that which I have set to do. This may seem difficult to do but the truth is that once a person has guiding principles and goals; it becomes easy to work with them because this leads to absolute commitment. I monitor my performance all the time because I know that this does not only affect my purpose in life but also those people who look up to me as a good role model in society. I acquired these skills from my parents and siblings because they instilled them in me. I was always told to lead a purposeful life and I heeded the call. Even so, with all these attributes about myself, I believe that I am not a perfect person because I also err. I am always tempted to quit when I feel that things are getting tough. This happens more especially when I am trying to work within the goals. I get a lot of distractions but then, I choose to remain focused on my dreams and in order to achieve them and I am always left no choice but to abide by them. I believe that I need to improve on organizing myself because there are times when I fail to get it right with regard to my priorities.

What Is Everyday Leadership and Why Does It Matter?

How each and every one of us can lead in our jobs and communities..

When people think of leaders, they conjure images of presidents, CEOs, or upper-level managers. There is a belief that only leaders lead, and the rest of us follow. But that is simply not the case.

Leadership is really a process of helping to move a collective toward some goal or outcome (hopefully one that is shared by all members of the group). Our research has been focusing on how regular people, regardless of whether they have any formal leadership position or not, lead in everyday life. We labeled this “everyday leadership,” and we defined it as “an individual who, regardless of formal title or authority, influences others to achieve shared objectives for the good of the collective.”

What this means is that we all can engage in leadership activities at work, in the community, or at home. We assert that leadership is more about an activity that one engages in rather than possessing a formal role or title. Certainly, there are persons with leadership titles who don’t lead, and a great deal of leadership is done by people without any titles. Let’s look at some examples.

Greta Thunberg was a 15-year-old student in Sweden when she started advocating for environmental responsibility and action. She took action by sailing to North America to speak at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit, and through this act of everyday leadership, she has become a recognized representative of the environmental movement, named Time magazine’s “Person of the Year” and nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. The student survivors of the shooting at Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida, who spoke out and marched for gun control, are other examples of everyday leaders.

In my local community, one individual in an impoverished and crime -ridden neighborhood began a campaign to make the area safer, by starting a community garden in an empty lot, and by lobbying the city for increased street lighting. These efforts led to more citizens enjoying the outdoors and keeping crime away.

How can we engage in everyday leadership in our own communities and workplaces?

  • Initiate or take charge of some special project. Look around and see what needs to be done, and lead that effort. This applies to the workplace, the community, and at home.
  • Mentor, coach, or assist in someone else’s development. This is an activity most leaders engage in to develop their followers, but anyone can do this. Be a mentor to a coworker, or offer sage advice to a young person.
  • Speak up. As the saying goes, “see something, say something!” If something is amiss, don’t look the other way. Speak up so that others will know about the problem or situation so that collective action can be taken. A simple everyday leadership strategy is to vote regularly and attend community meetings to have your voice heard.
  • Volunteer. In the workplace, go above and beyond your job description to take on activities that promote your work team and/or the organization. In the community, get involved in solving some pressing social problem.

In today’s difficult and uncertain times, we share responsibility for taking action and solving social ills. We need everyday leadership—people from all walks of life, to speak up and act for the betterment of society.

“I get refreshed with the morning walk or a little exercise and then prepare myself for the study with utmost sincerity. It is against my principle to put off today’s work for tomorrow or to have any private tutor.”

Mili shares her simple life in this essay by describing everyday activities every student does, such as brushing her teeth and exercising. She mentions her classes and recess at 2 PM, where she and her friends eat snacks, play games, and chat. As a student, Mili has a busy six-day schedule but visits theaters after washing her uniforms on Sundays. You might also be interested in these essays about reflection .

2. Write an Essay on Your Daily Life  by Darshan Kadu

“Life is too precious to be idled away in lethargic existence and in useless ventures. My daily routine is jam-packed with actions and activities and keeps me and my mind busy all the time. The adventures of daily life make it interesting and an exciting journey.”

On school days, Kadu’s daily routine includes jogging, getting ready for school, and having breakfast with the whole family. After school and attending meetings, he usually plays with friends in the field. Kadu also mentions how he spends his holidays. He believes that even though he has a daily routine, it’s exciting and full of adventure.

“Ancient Egyptian’s daily life revolves around the Nile and the rich soil around it… daily lives of people have changed a lot since then.”

This essay shows how religion helped the Ancient Egyptians run their daily lives. The author discusses changes in festivals and the treatment of gods and royalty. To make an effective comparison, they use three examples: the importance of family, the Nile, and slavery.

The writer mentions that the Nile was essential in Ancient Egypt because it provided food to the people. Modern Egyptians no longer depend on the Nile river and its rich soil. As for working, people used to be enslaved by the rich and were forced to farm. Now, while farming is a work option, slavery doesn’t happen anymore. Early marriage is also forgotten, but the importance of family is still the same for all Egyptians.

“Sometimes I feel that I am really becoming a machine to have a strict time table. But I also believe that if we do everything on time, success will kiss us and we can lead a qualitative life.”

Subedi believes that people spend the day depending on their roles. Because he’s a student, he talks about how a typical school day goes for him, noting how he follows a strict schedule to do his homework, play with friends, and prepare for the next day.

Subedi mentions how Saturdays and holidays distract his daily routine and shares how he feels like a machine with the readers. However, he also says that he knows it’s necessary to have a successful life. You might also be interested in these essays about New Year .

5. Long Essay on Television In Our Daily Life by Prasanna

“There are channels that beam programs 24 hours a day. Whereas this may be a boon for the people who do not have much to do anyway, it becomes a source of great distraction for children for whom the priority should be their studies.”

Technology like television is essential today but can also be a distraction to many. Prasanna refers to television as the most common form of entertainment that provides information on what’s happening worldwide. However, some shows have mature or violent elements that have adverse effects, especially on children. Additionally, those who spend too much time watching television will miss the thrill and excitement of going out and meeting other people.

Life is too precious to be idled away in a dull existence. My daily routine is jam-packed with actions and activities and it keeps me and my mind busy. The adventures of everyday life make it an enjoyable and exciting journey. Here are some sample essays on my daily life:

100 Words Essay on My Daily Life (My Daily Routine Essay)

A student should follow an effective routine to achieve success. I’m a morning person. The calm and quiet early morning helps me to concentrate better. I have a daily routine that starts early at 5 am and ends with planning the next day's work at 10 pm. I wake up at five and study till 7. I eat my breakfast at 8 am and leave for school at 8:30. Revision in the morning helps me understand better in class.

My Daily Life Essay (My Daily Routine Essay)

I make sure my routine does not become monotonous, so after I reach home, I go and play outside with my friends. Dinner time is always family time. The day ends with a short walk on the terrace gazing at the stars. The routine keeps me active and productive all the time.

200 Words Essay on My Daily Life (My Daily Routine Essay)

“ We are what we repeatedly do ,” says my dad daily quoting Aristotle. According to him, following a daily routine consistently will help me achieve my goals. He says that by planning my day and following it, I can complete all my work on time, avoiding pressure and being more productive.

My Daily Routine

Every morning I wake up at 5 am to the sound of my brother’s alarm which wakes me up. Exercising in the morning keeps me energetic and active the entire day. The fresh aroma of roasted coffee beans from the kitchen indicates coffee time. Later, I diligently sit for my morning studies and revise the previous day's concepts.

By 8:00 am, I’m ready for school. My mother prepares a delicious breakfast which I eat while watching the daily news along with my brother. 8:30 am I leave for school on my bicycle. Halfway, my friends join me. After lunch, I prefer light walking and freshening up for the afternoon study session. Classes end by 3:30 pm. After school, I go to the playground with my basketball team, where we practise for 2 hours, and I reach home by 6 pm. I finish my homework before supper.

Before going to bed, I prepare for the next day at school. Weekends are more relaxed. Mornings are usually spent cycling with friends. Afternoons, I help my mother grocery shop and cook in the kitchen. In the evening, I visit my grandma and have dinner with her.

500 Words Essay on My Daily Life Essay (My Daily Routine Essay)

I spend the first hour of my day exercising with my brother. I love sunrises. Around 6 am, I take a pleasant walk in the park with my pet dog “Candy” enjoying the beautiful, heartwarming morning light.

After the walk, I freshen up and study for an hour. I start with the daily newspaper, followed by my curriculum subjects. At precisely 8 am, we all gather at the dining table to have our breakfast. By 8:45, everyone departs for their respective work. I will reach school in 15 minutes by bicycle. Classes begin at 9:30 and continue till 12:30 pm.

My Afternoon Routine

Lunch breaks are always fun. I share my lunch with all my friends. I, along with my friends, walk to the dining hall; on the way, I make sure to go through the school's bulletin board. We discuss sports, television serials, and games while having our lunch. Lunch breaks are when I meet my seniors, discuss my doubts, and ask for their suggestions.

Classes go on till 3:30 pm. The last hour of the day is dedicated to PTE or games. This is the time when I relax and have fun. We indulge ourselves in fun games like running, tennis, basketball etc.

My Evening Routine

By 4:30, on the way home, I like stopping by my favourite chaat shop and enjoying some delicacies there. After arriving home at 5:00, I relax for an hour, eat some snacks, and watch my favourite tv show. 6 - 7:30 I go out to play.

By 7:30 pm , I’m back to studying, finishing my homework, and revising the day's curriculum till 8:30. We have our supper by 9. Everyone updates about their daily happenings during supper. I watch television for some time after dinner and finally am off to bed by 10 pm. I end my day by offering my gratitude for everything.

My Favourite part of the day

The time I have my supper is the best part of my day. I enjoy it a lot. My father usually asks us about our day. He usually tells us stories from his office, cracks jokes, and sometimes asks us puzzling questions. The winner gets to choose the tv program to watch. Later, the entire family goes out for a short walk with Candy. It's the perfect way to end the day with love, warmth and togetherness.

My Daily Relaxing Recreation

Every passing moment is an opportunity. But sometimes, these deadlines and schedules work me up. Everyone should have a hobby to relax and unwind from their daily monotonous routine. So, I make sure to relax now and then with some hobbies. My mother and I love to bake. Baking helps us relax. I feel calm and composed after baking.

How Daily Stress Affects your Heart Health

This essay about the impact of stress on heart health explores how chronic stress triggers hormonal changes that adversely affect cardiovascular function. It highlights the direct consequences of prolonged stress, such as increased blood pressure and atherosclerosis, which elevate the risk of heart disease. Additionally, the essay discusses how stress influences lifestyle choices that can further harm heart health, like poor diet, smoking, and lack of exercise. It also touches on the role of chronic inflammation under stress, which contributes to the deterioration of arterial health. Solutions for managing stress, such as regular exercise, mindfulness practices, and maintaining strong social connections, are outlined as effective strategies to mitigate these risks. Overall, the essay emphasizes the importance of managing stress to protect heart health, suggesting practical ways to alleviate stress and its harmful impacts on the cardiovascular system.

How it works

It’s no secret that the fast pace of modern life often brings a fair share of stress. Whether it’s the hustle of meeting tight deadlines, managing household responsibilities, or navigating complex social relationships, stress seems to shadow much of our daily routines. What might not be so apparent, however, is the profound impact this stress can have on our heart health.

When we’re stressed, our body reacts by releasing hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones kick-start the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response, gearing us up for immediate action.

This natural survival mechanism can be lifesaving in acute situations, but when triggered too often—thanks to chronic stress—it can wear down our body, particularly our cardiovascular system.

Chronic stress leads to continuous high levels of cortisol and adrenaline, which are tough on the heart and arteries. Consistently high blood pressure from prolonged stress can damage the arterial walls, which may lead to heart disease. As these walls thicken and harden, conditions like atherosclerosis decrease arterial flexibility, dramatically increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Stress doesn’t just wreak havoc on our bodies directly. It also influences our lifestyle choices. For many, stress is a gateway to picking up or continuing unhealthy habits—smoking, reaching for a drink, or indulging in junk food. While these may offer temporary relief, they come with a host of health issues, including weight gain, higher cholesterol levels, and increased blood sugar levels, all of which stress the heart even more.

Furthermore, chronic stress affects the way our body handles inflammation, a leading player in heart disease. Under stress, inflammatory responses can go into overdrive, accelerating the buildup of plaque in our arteries. Moreover, the constant rush of stress hormones can make the heart pump faster and harder, which over time can change the heart muscle itself.

Thankfully, there are effective ways to mitigate the impact of stress on our heart. Exercise, for example, is a fantastic stress reliever. It not only helps control weight and reduce blood pressure but also triggers the release of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that act as mood lifters and painkillers.

Mindfulness practices like yoga, meditation, and deep-breathing exercises can also help calm the mind and reduce stress. These activities help shift the body from stress responses to relaxation responses, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and promoting overall heart health.

Social connections also play a crucial role in stress management. A robust social network can offer emotional support, reduce loneliness, and help manage stress more effectively. Keeping in touch with friends and family, participating in community activities, or even getting professional counseling can provide the support needed to manage stress.

To wrap it up, while stress is a natural part of life, managing it effectively is key to maintaining a healthy heart. By understanding how stress affects heart health and adopting strategies to cope, we can protect ourselves from the serious risks associated with heart disease. Taking active steps to reduce stress is not merely about feeling better—it’s about fostering a healthier, stronger heart.

Importance: Autistic youth who graduate with a high school diploma may experience challenges in acquiring functional skills for everyday independence. Few studies have focused on how their functional and self-management skills change during the transition to adulthood.

Objective: To examine cross-sectional differences and longitudinal changes in the functional and self-management skills of transition-age autistic youth.

Design: Exploratory longitudinal study (18-mo follow-up).

Setting: Community.

Participants: Autistic high school students who graduated with a high school diploma and their parents ( N = 50).

Outcomes and Measures: Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory–Computer Adaptive Test (ASD).

Results: Older youth (ages 18–20 yr) had significantly lower normative Social/Cognitive and Responsibility domain scores (i.e., self-management) than youth ages 14–17 yr. Approximately 2 yr later, youth in both age groups significantly improved in scaled scores on the Daily Activities and Responsibility domains.

Conclusions and Relevance: Autistic youth’s functional and self-management skills fell below those of nonautistic peers; however, these skills do change over time and are therefore appropriate targets for intervention.

Plain-Language Summary: The findings of this study highlight the importance of focusing on the functional and self-management skills of autistic youth as part of their transition to adulthood. Occupational therapists can play a valuable role in helping autistic youth to achieve independence as adults by assessing their functional needs and strengths and by providing client-centered interventions.

essay on water management

Importance of Water Management

Water management impacts various aspects of our lives. As water is common, we do not think much of its management. But, if we ask the deprived people, they will know the importance of water management very well.

As we require drinking water, clean drinking water is a necessity. No human can survive without water. Further, we also need water management for cleaning and washing. For instance, we bathe, wash our clothes and utensils to maintain hygiene .

Further, agriculture requires water for growing the food that we eat every day. Thus, a good water supply becomes essential. Moreover, we also enjoy swimming, boating and other leisure activities in the water.

For instance, swimming pools and more. Thus, water needs to be managed so people can enjoy all this. Most importantly, water management ensures that our rivers and lakes do not contaminate. Thus, it helps maintain biodiversity.

Ways of Water Management

There are various ways available through which we can manage water. The major ways of water management include recycling and treating wastewater. When we treat wastewater , it becomes safe to be piped back to our homes.

Thus, we use it for drinking, washing and more. In addition, an irrigation system is a very good way of water management. It involves a good quality irrigation system which we can deploy for nourishing crops in drought-hit areas.

By managing these systems, we can ensure water does not go to waste and avoid unnecessarily depleting water supplies. Most importantly, conserving water is essential at every level.

Whether it is a big company or a small house, we all must practise water management. The big industries use gallons of water on a daily basis. At homes, we can conserve water by using it less.

Further, it also applies to our way of consumption of products. A large amount of water goes into the production of cars or a simple item like a shirt. Thus, we must not buy things unnecessarily but consciously.

It is also essential to care for natural supplies like lakes, rivers , seas and more. As you know, these ecosystems are home to a variety of organisms. Without its support, they will go extinct. Thus, water management becomes essential to ensure we are not polluting these resources.

It is also crucial to ensure that everyone gets access to enough water. Some parts of the world are completely deprived of clean water while some have it in abundance. This is unfair to those who do not get it which also causes many deaths. Thus, we need water management to avoid all this.

To the moms all alone on Mother's Day, I see you and you are enough.

management in daily life essay

Most of my 14 years of motherhood felt like Mother’s Day was spent alone, including some of the years I was married.

Every May, when the second Sunday in May comes around, I think of the women who are where I was in multiple places of my mother journey: scared, alone and envious of the moms with a supportive partner at home.

This year, I've written a letter to every single mother struggling to celebrate herself today, who feels inferior to the other families she sees.

When the flowers don't come, when there are no "thank yous," when there is no one posting our picture, I want us to remember where our gift truly lies.

To our kids, this is the life and this love is enough. So, we can raise our glass.

Dear, single mom on Mother's Day

Maybe you woke up a little early today to give yourself the gift of solitude. There is no one to tag in at the end of the day. It’s exhausting.

You might get a few minutes before feelings of inadequacy come flooding in. You are reminded of all the things you can't do, never seeing all that you have. You wonder how a single-parent home is affecting your kids, who will be down in a matter of moments.

Then, the day will begin just like any other day.

Maybe there were once flowers waiting for you. Maybe there were never flowers at all. You may find crumpled up Mother's Day art in your kids' backpack today, but they may not recognize that there should be anything to celebrate.

You will prepare every meal, answer every request, create every moment, wipe every tear and calm every fear. But your requests will be left unmet, your moments 60 seconds at a time, your tears wiped by your own hand and your fears, ever ponding.

Yet every day you show up and you do it, maybe with a little envy for the two-parent home down the street, because it's hard to be a full-time parent and a full-time provider. You can't possibly do either perfectly well.

If you're feeling discouraged today, seeing only your lack, look inside.

You are the creator of all the good that you see.

Tonight, when you tuck in your kids, witness your gifts.

There may have not been anything on the table this morning, you may have cleaned up the house and cooked every meal, but there is peace in the room. There is joy on their faces. There is a tangible love providing security like the blanket wrapped around their feet.

Your family is not inferior.

You are enough. Your kids know it, and some day someone else will too.

But it has to start with you.

My son was feeling left behind: What kids with autistic siblings want you to know.

Your married friend may be struggling, too

Single mothers should know that married mothers aren't necessarily better supported. Sure, they may have flowers, but just like you, they have learned how to water themselves.

There were Mother's Days when all I felt was hollow. There were flowers, photos, dinners and lots of hugs, but it obscured a darker reality. Presence doesn't equal support. Lonely doesn't equal alone.

Knowing my "enoughness" led me back into singleness and back to the mother I've always been. So, cherish where you are and never trade your peace for support. Recognize yourself and celebrate this day.

Last year, I bought myself a bouquet of wildflowers, and this year, I bought myself a few.

My gift is this home I've created and the peace I feel at night. Sure, it may be a little messy, but it is far from inferior.

When I release my kids into the world, they will take this love that they've been given and begin planting it in places of their own, definitely better than if they had grown up in our broken two-parent home.

Yet I know that you, like me, may have a desire to share your life with someone. Just make sure that they are a seer too, a seer of your worth and your "enoughness," on more than just this special day.

Century of statistical ecology reviewed

Crunching numbers isn't exactly how Neil Gilbert, a postdoctoral researcher at Michigan State University, envisioned a career in ecology.

"I think it's a little funny that I'm doing this statistical ecology work because I was always OK at math, but never particularly enjoyed it," he explained. "As an undergrad, I thought, I'll be an ecologist -- that means that I can be outside, looking at birds, that sort of thing."

As it turns out," he chuckled, "ecology is a very quantitative discipline."

Now, working in the Zipkin Quantitative Ecology lab, Gilbert is the lead author on a new article in a special collection of the journal Ecology that reviews the past century of statistical ecology .

Statistical ecology, or the study of ecological systems using mathematical equations, probability and empirical data, has grown over the last century. As increasingly large datasets and complex questions took center stage in ecological research, new tools and approaches were needed to properly address them.

To better understand how statistical ecology changed over the last century, Gilbert and his fellow authors examined a selection of 36 highly cited papers on statistical ecology -- all published in Ecology since its inception in 1920.

The team's paper examines work on statistical models across a range of ecological scales from individuals to populations, communities, ecosystems and beyond. The team also reviewed publications providing practical guidance on applying models. Gilbert noted that because, "many practicing ecologists lack extensive quantitative training," such publications are key to shaping studies.

Ecology is an advantageous place for such papers, because it is one of, "the first internationally important journals in the field. It has played an outsized role in publishing important work," said lab leader Elise Zipkin, a Red Cedar Distinguished Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology.

"It has a reputation of publishing some of the most influential papers on the development and application of analytical techniques from the very beginning of modern ecological research."

The team found a persistent evolution of models and concepts in the field, especially over the past few decades, driven by refinements in techniques and exponential increases in computational power.

"Statistical ecology has exploded in the last 20 to 30 years because of advances in both data availability and the continued improvement of high-performance computing clusters," Gilbert explained.

Included among the 36 reviewed papers were a landmark 1945 study by Lee R. Dice on predicting the co-occurrence of species in space -- Ecology's most highly cited paper of all time -- and an influential 2002 paper led by Darryl MacKenzie on occupancy models. Ecologists use these models to identify the range and distribution of species in an environment.

Mackenzie's work on species detection and sampling, "played an outsized role in the study of species distributions," says Zipkin. MacKenzie's paper, which was cited more than 5,400 times, spawned various software packages that are now widely used by ecologists, she explained.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Rory McIlroy blasted yet another drive down the middle, this one finally coming to rest on the left side of the fifth fairway. As he headed off the tee box and toward the ball, a girl in the crowd shouted “I love you, Rory!”

Still adored, and still playing great, there was no better place than the golf course Thursday for one of the game’s most popular players, who was in the headlines for different reasons coming into this week’s PGA Championship.

“It’s always nice to be inside the ropes,” McIlroy said after shooting a 5-under 66 that had him tied for fifth, four shots behind Xander Schauffele, after the first round.

The 35-year-old McIlroy’s filing of divorce papers earlier in the week made for one of the more buzzy subplots in the leadup to the year’s second major. For the second straight day with a microphone in his face, he refused to talk about it.

“Happy to be here,” he said when pressed on whether the sanctuary inside the ropes means just a little more this week.

If all he wants to do is talk golf, well, there was plenty to talk about. Most of it was good on a calm, partly cloudy morning at the course where he won his last major in 2014.

Jon Rahm, of Spain, reacts to his tee shot on the 11th hole during the first round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at the Valhalla Golf Club, Thursday, May 16, 2024, in Louisville, Ky. (AP Photo/Jeff Roberson)

He opened on the back nine, and two holes — Nos. 18 and No. 1 after he made the turn — were perfect exhibits of how to keep a couple of bad shots from turning into round-ruiners.

On 18, the uphill par-5, he drove the ball into the front of the creek that runs down the right side of the fairway. There were course marshals all over the place but it took a few minutes for everyone to nail down exactly where the ball entered the hazard.

Problem solved, McIlroy hit a wedge back to the fairway and got up and down from 112 yards to save par.

Then, on No. 1, he hit his drive into a slope in the right rough, which has grown lush after two days of rain. With the ball above his feet in the thick grass, McIlroy’s approach hit the flag and dropped to 5 feet for an easy birdie. It put him at 2 under for the day.

“I could have easily bogeyed 18 and been back to even par, and then, that ball on 1 could have hit the flagstick and went anywhere and I could have made bogey from that,” McIlroy said. “Instead of potentially being 1-over par through 10, I’m 2 under. So it’s a three-shot difference. It’s a big swing.”

McIlroy also chipped in from the rough in front of the green on No. 6, then made birdie on the par-5 seventh after hitting his drive into the rough.

Walking off every tee box, he was hearing shouts of “Go Rory,” and “Let’s go, Ror!” and if there were any thoughts about the off-course news he made this week, none of it came flowing from the crowd at Valhalla.

McIlroy will head into Friday’s second round very much in the mix to win in his third straight start. Last weekend in Charlotte, he made it two in a row by reeling in none other than Schauffele, who started the final round with a one-shot lead over McIlroy and ended up losing to him by five.

There’s lots of time between the first round and Sunday. But after Day 1, the golf course felt like a pretty good place to be for McIlroy.

“I sort of felt like it was pretty scrappy for the most part,” he said. “I don’t really feel like I left many out there. I thought I got a lot out of my game today.”
