Bilingual Laboratory Assistant I - HEART Lab

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a Bilingual Limited Part Time Lab Assistant I to work with the Researchers in the H.E.A.R.T (Health Equity and Access Research and Treatment) Laboratory.

Major duties include laboratory research support and task are as follows:

  • Assist with conducting qualitative interviews in English and Spanish. 
  • Enter and manage research data. 
  • Assist with organizing and storing data. 
  • Assist with other general lab tasks. 
  • Assist with recruitment and enrollment of participants in research study. 

Job Qualifications

  • Spanish speaking abilities required.
  •  Ability to coordinate data collection and data entry for research studies.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and congenially with all staff, faculty, students, patients and the public at all times.
  • Skill at prioritizing assignments and ability to work concurrently on several projects.
  • Ability to function effectively with several interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks with minimal direction.
  • High level ability in the use of a PC using all Windows applications.
  • Skill in maintaining organized filing systems.
  • Skill in editing reports, correspondence, manuals, etc., for grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in the strictest sense.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate timekeeping.
  • High school diploma required, BA preferred.

Position Summary

As part of the CUIMC Well-Being and Health Promotion team, a department of CUIMC Student Health on Haven, the Health Promotion Specialist works with the Well-Being and Health Promotion team to create innovative research-based and student-centered opportunities that facilitate the personal and professional well-being of CUIMC students. CUIMC is a diverse campus of graduate health sciences students from nine schools and programs: medicine, dental medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, human nutrition, public health, genetic counseling, and the biomedical sciences. The Health Promotion Specialist develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates a variety of health promotion programs and initiatives based on sound theory- and evidenced-informed practice with a focus on enhancing inclusion and student engagement.

Responsibilities

  • At the direction of the Director and Assistant Director, Well-Being and Health Promotion, develop, coordinate, and evaluate health promotion programming and initiatives to support student well-being with particular focus on inclusion and student engagement.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate health communication initiatives including Student Health on Haven web content, weekly e-newsletter, social media, and other technologies.
  • Write and submit periodic and annual reports on program progress and outcomes, including developing proposals for enhancements or changes as appropriate.
  • Oversee the interprofessional Student Well-Being Collective, working with and training students, faculty, and staff from all schools and programs to facilitate CUIMC-wide implementation of well-being initiatives. Partner with student organizations and other student representatives on peer-developed well-being initiatives.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with constituencies on campus, including but not limited to administrators, faculty and staff at the various Schools and Programs, Student Health on Haven, Student and Campus Services, Facilities Management, and student organizations.
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate interactive trainings and programs for student groups and university staff on a variety of health-related topics.
  • Assist with coordination, dissemination, and reporting of population-based assessments of health status, needs, and assets of students, and environmental assessments of campus community health needs and resources.
  • Develop proposals for policy, programs, and other interventions, and contribute to the development of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries about health information and services from students, staff, and faculty, referring, when appropriate, to campus services or community organizations.
  • Serve on committees and task forces as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience in Public Health, Health Education, Health Communication, or closely related field; master’s degree preferred. And at least 3 years of experience in college health promotion, health communication, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of health promotion theory and evidence-informed practice, and ability to translate and apply that theory with a university population.
  • Sound understanding of graduate students' development concerns, health needs and interests, and ability to design health promotion initiatives and campaigns that reflect the social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of students.
  • Excellent and demonstrated public speaking; group facilitation; writing, editing, and communication skills are required.
  • Experience in program development, marketing, and evaluation.
  • CHES or CPH certified or eligible (with intent to become certified) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must be detail-oriented, communicate effectively, possess strong organizational and follow-up skills, and have demonstrated ability to work in both independent and team-based environments
  • Knowledgeable in health content areas relevant to graduate university students, including but not limited to substance use, mental health literacy, sexuality and gender identity, professional development, and equity.
  • Some evening and weekend hours required.
  • Strong computer skills required, including PC literacy in Windows environment, high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint and Teams, Zoom, and ability to learn technology quickly.
  • Proficiency with social media, marketing, and content management systems strongly preferred, including Instagram, Mailchimp, Airtable, Qualtrics, and graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative, and Microsoft Publisher)

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. Aid in developing a systematic methodology for assessing the false-positive and false-negative rates of counter-UAV radar systems against avian wildlife.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze large Radar data sets and deploy machine learning algorithms to classify multiple objects.
  • Customize API to fit application needs.
  • Collect ground truth for analysis of false positive and false negative classifications - (Essential)

  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
  • Strong python programming skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • UND student pursuing a computer science degree with sophomore standing.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Occupational Summary: 

The Wu Lab in the Department of Orthopaedics at Duke University is looking to hire an individual to perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting standardized assays,laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations in support of researchin the fields of bone and musculoskeletal research, such as bio-specimen processing, micro-CT analysis of mouse tissue molecular biology, tissue culture, tissue sectioning, histology, mouse colony management, murine surgical procedures, in vivo imaging. 

Work Performed: 

· Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical or biological tests and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data in support of research oriented activities; 

· Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results. 

· Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the particular equipment as required. 

· Process murine bio-specimens such as blood and tissue and purification of different cell types, DNA, RNA,and proteins from bio-specimens, maintaining detailed documentation and inventory. 

· Set up instruments,material and apparatus and operate standard laboratory equipment required for specific tests. 

· Maintain cell culture lines,including preparation of culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions. 

· Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques. 

· Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies and equipment for performance of duties; clean and maintain standard laboratory equipment. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Responsibilities*

 The duties and expectations of this position are to focus on using the techniques learned to improve the performance of organic light emitting devices. Particularly, They will develop technologies for achieving very high intensity, efficient and reliable blue organic light emitting diodes, and developing new polariton device architectures to greatly increase excited state diffusion lengths. They will continue to assist in maintaining the laboratory facilities, will encourage a group culture of cooperation and emphasize laboratory safety. They will work with students and help in the supervision of their projects, and is responsible for driving their own, independent research projects.
