  • समस्या की पहचान करें – कल्पना कीजिए कि आप काम पर हैं। कोई व्यक्ति, संभावित रूप से आपका मैनेजर, आपको गलत डेटा की समस्या के बारे में बताता है। फिर पहली चीज जो आप करेंगे वह है समस्या की पहचान करना। समस्या क्या है? क्या पूरे विभाग में गलत डेटा प्रसारित किया गया है।
  • इसके पीछे के कारण को समझें – फिर समस्या की पहचान करने के बाद आप इस परिदृश्य के पीछे के कारण को समझने की कोशिश करेंगे। इसके पीछे क्या कारण है? आपको पता चला कि सॉफ़्टवेयर में कोई समस्या है।
  • रिसर्च और डेटा एकत्र करें – जैसा कि आपने पाया है कि समस्या सॉफ्टवेयर में है, तो आप इस विषय पर अधिक रिसर्च करेंगे। इस मुद्दे पर रिसर्च और डेटा एकत्र करने के बाद आपको पता चला कि सॉफ्टवेयर पिछले वर्ष और चालू वर्ष के डेटा को एक साथ मिला रहा है।
  • डेटा व्यवस्थित करें – इसके बाद, आपको सॉफ़्टवेयर में संशोधन करना होगा और डेटा को उसके संबंधित वर्ष के अनुसार सही ढंग से व्यवस्थित करने का प्रयास करना होगा।

समस्या समाधान कौशल (Problem Solving Skills) क्या हैं?

एक ऐसा कौशल जब व्यक्ति अपनी व दुसरो की परेशानियों (problems) का हल ढूढ़ने का गुण रखता हों l इसका अर्थ यह हुआ की व्यक्ति आ रही परेशानियों का हल बड़ी जल्दी और आसानी से कर लेता है l और ऐसे उपायों को अपनाता है जिससे उसे आ रही दिक्कतों का सामना करने में एक शक्ति मिले l सामान्य तौर पर देखा जाए तो हमें अपनी जीवन मे ऐसे कई बार ऐसी परेशानी और दिक्कतों से गुजरना पड़ता है जब हम अकेले होते है और हमारे सुझाव देने वाले व्यक्ति हमसे हमारी बचकाने हरकतो की कोई उमीद नहीं करते इस जगह हमें अपने स्वयं के निर्णय खुद लेना पड़ता हैं  और आगे बढ़ना (move forward) होता है l

अब यहाँ देखा जाए तो दूसरी ओर ध्यान दे तो एक कर्मचारी, एक पुलिसकर्मी, अधिकारी आदि को भी इस स्किल की जरूरत होतीं हैं क्योंकि वहा बड़े स्तर पर उच्च विचार व समाधान की जरूरत होती है और ऐसे अनेकों परिस्थिति (situations) आती है जब हमें अपने कौशल की जरूरत दिखानी होतीं है वैसे देखा जाए तो कुछ व्यक्तियों मे यह गुण जन्मजात दिखाई देता है वजह ये होतीं की हमे अपने परिवार के अंदर ऐसे लोग जरुर मिलते है जो अपनी तेज बुद्धि से प्रभावित करते है और बच्चे  अपने माता पिता को हमेशा कॉपी करते देखे गए है और कुछ अपने माता पिता के गुण प्राप्त कर लेते हैं l 

Problem Solving Skills मे कौन-कौन से कौशल सामिल होते है ? 

इसके विभिन्न टाइप को इस प्रकार समझा जा सकता हैं जो नीचे दिए गए तालिकाओं में हैं l

  • बातचीत ( communication ) 

प्रायः देखा गया है की कुछ परिस्थिति ऐसी भी होतीं है जहाँ बातचित के माध्यम से भी समस्या का हल निकला जाता है l देखा गया है की बड़े बड़े कंपनियाँ ऐसे कर्मचारी वर्ग की तलाश मे रहती है जिनका communication skills मजबूत हो ताकि आने वाले क्लाइंट या कस्टमर से अच्छी प्रकार से बातचित करने में सक्षम हो l कई बार ऐसी स्थिति आ जाती है जहाँ समस्याओं को बहस के माध्यम से भी सुलझाया जा सकता है l उदाहरण हम कोर्ट मे वकीलों का भी ले सकते है जहाँ वे अपनी skills का प्रयोग बहुत ही खूबसूरत ढंग से करते हैं l

  • निर्णय निर्माण (Decision making )

  • खोज करना (Research)  

कुछ व्यक्तियों की प्रवृति चीजों को ढूंढ कर तथा उसमे छुपे रहस्यों को जानकर संतुष्टि मिलती हैं l यही परिस्थिति उसे जब अपनी किसी समस्या का समाधान करने के लिए बोला जाए तो खोज जैसी विधि को अपनाएगा और ऐसे तथ्य को सामने लाने की कोशिश करेगा ताकि उसे स्वयं को खुशी मिले l

  • विश्लेषण करना (Analysis ) 

कई बार समस्या को देखने मात्र से ही उसका हल नहीं निकला जा सकता l समस्या इतनी गहरी होतीं हैं की हमें उसमे छुपे राज को ढूँढना और समाधान करना शामिल होता हैं l एक अध्यापक अपने शिष्यों के खराब परिणाम आने पर आ रही परेशानियों को ढुंढता है फिर बच्चों की शिक्षा विधि मे बदलाव लाकर उसे आगे की शिक्षा करवाता हैं l

  • स्वतंत्र निर्णय (Independent thinking) 

यह विधि सबसे  बढ़िया मानी गयी हैं l कई बार परिस्थिति ऐसी आ जाती है जब हम उसे समय पर छोड़ देते है ताकि समय के साथ कुछ-कुछ चीजें बदल जाती है उन्हें कुछ पल के लिए छोड़ दिया जाए तो समाधान अपने आप निकल जाता है l उदाहरण के रूप में समझे तो हम पायेंगे की एक फेक्ट्री के मजदूरों को कुछ समय के लिए छोड़ दिया जाता है ताकि वो अपना adjustment  करने में सक्षम हो जाए l कुछ दिनों बाद हमें पता लगेगा की मजदूर वर्ग बनाई गयी समय सारणी को फॉलो कर रहे हैं l

  • सबके साथ मिलकर काम करना ( teamwork)

प्रॉब्लम सॉल्विंग स्किल (problem solution skills) में teamwork को शामिल किया गया है कभी कभी कुछ ऐसी प्रॉब्लम होती है जिन्हे अकेले सुलझा पाना मुश्किल होता है या इसमें ज्यादा समय निकल जाता है लेकिन ऐसे में अगर सब मिलकर उस प्रॉब्लम पर काम करे तो उसको जल्दी ठीक किया जा सकता है उदहारण के  तौर पर मान लो आपकी कंपनी में किसी काम में  कुछ प्रॉब्लम हुई है ऐसे में अगर पूरी team मिलकर चले तो उसको एक निश्चित समय में ठीक किया जा सकता है।

Critical thinking is a term that gets thrown around a lot. You've probably heard it used often throughout the years whether it was in school, at work, or in everyday conversation. But when you stop to think about it, what exactly is critical thinking and how do you do it ?

Simply put, critical thinking is the act of deliberately analyzing information so that you can make better judgements and decisions . It involves using things like logic, reasoning, and creativity, to draw conclusions and generally understand things better.

This may sound like a pretty broad definition, and that's because critical thinking is a broad skill that can be applied to so many different situations. You can use it to prepare for a job interview, manage your time better, make decisions about purchasing things, and so much more.

As humans, we are constantly thinking . It's something we can't turn off. But not all of it is critical thinking. No one thinks critically 100% of the time... that would be pretty exhausting! Instead, it's an intentional process , something that we consciously use when we're presented with difficult problems or important decisions.

Improving your critical thinking

In order to become a better critical thinker, it's important to ask questions when you're presented with a problem or decision, before jumping to any conclusions. You can start with simple ones like What do I currently know? and How do I know this? These can help to give you a better idea of what you're working with and, in some cases, simplify more complex issues.

Let's take a look at how we can use critical thinking to evaluate online information . Say a friend of yours posts a news article on social media and you're drawn to its headline. If you were to use your everyday automatic thinking, you might accept it as fact and move on. But if you were thinking critically, you would first analyze the available information and ask some questions :

  • What's the source of this article?
  • Is the headline potentially misleading?
  • What are my friend's general beliefs?
  • Do their beliefs inform why they might have shared this?

After analyzing all of this information, you can draw a conclusion about whether or not you think the article is trustworthy.

Over the years, the education system has been moving away from the system of rote and other conventional teaching and learning parameters.

They are aligning their curriculums to the changing scenario which is becoming more tech-driven and demands a fusion of critical skills, life skills, values, and domain expertise. There's no set formula for success.

Rather, there's a defined need for humans to be more creative, innovative, adaptive, agile, risk-taking, and have a problem-solving mindset.

In today's scenario, critical thinking and problem-solving skills have become more important because they open the human mind to multiple possibilities, solutions, and a mindset that is interdisciplinary in nature.

Therefore, many schools and educational institutions are deploying AI and immersive learning experiences via gaming, and AR-VR technologies to give a more realistic and hands-on learning experience to their students that hone these abilities and help them overcome any doubt or fear.

ADVANTAGES OF CRITICAL THINKING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING IN CURRICULUM

Ability to relate to the real world:  Instead of theoretical knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills encourage students to look at their immediate and extended environment through a spirit of questioning, curiosity, and learning. When the curriculum presents students with real-world problems, the learning is immense.

Confidence, agility & collaboration : Critical thinking and problem-solving skills boost self-belief and confidence as students examine, re-examine, and sometimes fail or succeed while attempting to do something.

They are able to understand where they may have gone wrong, attempt new approaches, ask their peers for feedback and even seek their opinion, work together as a team, and learn to face any challenge by responding to it.

Willingness to try new things: When problem-solving skills and critical thinking are encouraged by teachers, they set a robust foundation for young learners to experiment, think out of the box, and be more innovative and creative besides looking for new ways to upskill.

It's important to understand that merely introducing these skills into the curriculum is not enough. Schools and educational institutions must have upskilling workshops and conduct special training for teachers so as to ensure that they are skilled and familiarized with new teaching and learning techniques and new-age concepts that can be used in the classrooms via assignments and projects.

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are two of the most sought-after skills. Hence, schools should emphasise the upskilling of students as a part of the academic curriculum.

Exploring the 4 C’s of 21st Century Learning

Learning and Innovation Skills, or the 4 C’s of 21 st Century Learning include Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Creativity and Innovation, Communication, and Collaboration. If the 4 C’s sound familiar, it’s because they probably are. Most people learned many of these skills in school. So why are they called 21 st -Century Skills ? The answer is simple: they are the set of skills 21 st century employers consider the most important skills in prospective employees.

Economists, human resource directors, and business leaders have examined the 4 C’s for at least three decades. What skills, they ask, do major industries and professions need in an employee or professional? In other words, what skills can we teach students that are “future-proof” no matter how quickly the world changes?

Every five years, the World Economic Forum interviews human resource and business leaders to identify the most important skills needed in an employee. According to their 2020 Future of Jobs Report , the ten most vital core skills needed in the coming decade are:

  • Cognitive flexibility
  • Complex problem solving
  • Critical thinking
  • Judgment and decision making
  • Negotiation
  • People management
  • Coordinating with others
  • Service orientation
  • Emotional intelligence.

While the list of vital skills will vary depending on who you talk to, there is a clear common thread across the board: any list of “future-proof” skills is always represented by the four categories of the 4 C’s. In the 20 th century, career-specific skills reigned supreme in schools, universities, and professions. Today, however, students must learn skills to meet the changes of the new century and be the workforce of the future. As a result, educators must shift teaching methodologies to teach these learning and innovation skills.

The framework for 21st Century Learning

For many, however, modern teaching methodologies like the 4 C’s, collaborative learning, or project-based learning can sound like neglect of traditional curriculum . The reality is that no subject in the traditional curriculum is being replaced.

In fact, the 4 C’s are part of a larger educational framework whose foundation is the traditional curriculum: math, reading, writing, language arts, science, civics, history, languages, geography, and the arts. The 4 C’s were originally part of the Framework for 21 st Century Learning from the Partnership for 21 st -Century Skills. In this framework, the traditional curriculum is still the focus, and Learning and Innovation Skills, or the 4 C’s, are intended to be used to support it.

What are the 4 C’s?

While the 4 C’s may sound a bit vague, they are actually composites of real skills that are definable, measurable, and teachable.

Creativity and innovation

Creativity is a set of skills that enables learners to discover alternatives, brainstorm ideas, generate solutions, rethink existing paradigms, and create new knowledge. However, creativity involves more than just “thinking outside the box.” In the 21 st century, creativity is overwhelmingly a group process that requires openness to new and divergent ideas, the ability to formulate useful feedback, the recognition of the limits of new ideas and the value of old ideas, and the capacity to use failure as an opportunity. Group creativity skills are just as important, if not more so, as thinking outside the box.

Critical thinking and problem solving

In the real world, problems do not have “right answers” conveniently printed at the back of the textbook. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving involves mastering skills that enable learners to define problems, pose questions, sort through information, evaluate evidence, weigh alternatives, consider different points of view, analyze arguments, understand complexity, and approach unfamiliar problems. Many of these skills have long been taught in the classroom in traditional courses like science, civics, history, and math, but the goal is to use them deliberately throughout the curriculum.

Communication

Communication is the set of skills that allows students to read, listen, interpret, speak, write, persuade, negotiate, argue, and master a large variety of media. Learning communication skills dates back centuries in subjects like reading, writing, oratory, and language arts. The difference, however, is that the 4 C’s put communication at the center of learning in all subjects, from language arts to algebra. A few ways to teach communication skills to students include encouraging activities that reinforce active listening, asking open-ended questions, fostering critical thinking and reflective learning opportunities, and modeling effective conversation skills when communicating with students.

Collaboration

In our complex and changing world, success requires that people work together . Most problems and projects in the 21 st century workplace are multifaceted and multidisciplinary, requiring a diverse set of skills, knowledge, and backgrounds to bring to completion. Collaboration is the set of skills that enable people to collectively set goals, allocate resources, fulfill group roles, plan, manage time, make group decisions, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and build teams. Unlike other aspects of the 4 C’s, collaboration is a relatively recent structural innovation in K-12 education. Widely adopted in the 1990’s, collaborative learning was originally intended to enhance learning outcomes in the traditional curriculum . The 4 C’s also focus on developing a defined set of interactional skills that not only increase learning, but are also necessary skills in today’s workplace. A few ways to encourage collaborative learning include incorporating games into lessons, creating a safe space for class discussion, encouraging storytelling and brainstorming, and amplifying all student voices.

The 4 C’s of 21st Century Learning are here to stay

For proof of concept of the crucial value of the 4 C’s, we need look no further than the last 12 months. As the COVID-19 pandemic raged across the country, teachers and learners worked to master distance learning in classrooms entirely managed through technology. When we reflect back, 2020 will likely be remembered as “the Year of Distance Learning.” Simply meeting the challenges posed by a year of remote and hybrid learning became a crash course in the 4 C’s for everyone, from students and teachers to administrators and IT personnel.

The 4 C’s are fundamental skills educators must teach as they transition from a “sage on the stage” to “guide on the side” style of teaching. They are the tools students use every day to meet the challenges of a changing classroom, even without the duress of a pandemic. They are an enduring skillset and are part of every student’s future.

Welcome to Strategy Skills episode 453, featuring an interview with the authors of Fair Shake: Women and the Fight to Build a Just Economy, Naomi Cahn, June Carbone, and Nancy Levit. This book explains that the system that governs our economy—a winner-take-all economy—is the root cause of these myriad problems. The WTA economy self-selects for aggressive, cutthroat business tactics, which creates a feedback loop that sidelines women. The authors, three legal scholars, call this feedback loop “the triple bind”: if women don’t compete on the same terms as men, they lose; if women do compete on the same terms as men, they’re punished more harshly for their sharp elbows or actual misdeeds; and when women see that they can’t win on the same terms as men, they take themselves out of the game (if they haven’t been pushed out already). With odds like these stacked against them, it’s no wonder women feel like, no matter how hard they work, they can’t get ahead.   Naomi Cahn is the Justice Anthony M. Kennedy Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia School of Law, as well as the Co-Director of the Family Law Center. Cahn is the author or editor of numerous books written for both academic and trade publishers, including Red Families v. Blue Families and Homeward Bound. In 2017, Cahn received the Harry Krause Lifetime Achievement in Family Law Award from the University of Illinois College of Law and in 2024 she was inducted into the Clayton Alumni Hall of Fame.    June Carbone is the Robina Chair of Law, Science and Technology at the University of Minnesota Law School. Previously she has served as the Edward A. Smith/Missouri Chair of Law, the Constitution and Society at the University of Missouri at Kansas City; and as the Associate Dean for Professional Development and Presidential Professor of Ethics and the Common Good at Santa Clara University School of Law. She has written From Partners to Parents and co-written Red Families v. Blue Families; Marriage Markets; and Family Law. She is a co-editor of the International Survey of Family Law.   Nancy Levit is the Associate Dean for Faculty and holds a Curator’s Professorship at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law.
