An Introduction

Football is a game that requires strength, loads of fitness and cleverness to be played. It is a game of 90 minutes. There are two teams. Each team can have a maximum of 11 players and a minimum of 7 players. There are two goalposts. The goalkeepers from each of the teams prevent the ball from entering the goal area. The other players try to zigzag their way ahead by kicking the ball. They try to pass the opponents to score a goal. It is a highly intense game with excitement, emotion, blood, and sweat.

The History of Football

In the ancient days, football was not made of leather. In some places, people blew up pigs’ bladders to make footballs. In the Mesoamerican culture, football was played with a rock. It denoted the Sun God. The unfortunate thing was, the losing team’s captain was sacrificed to God. This element of violence and barbarism in football continued even when the early signs of modern football started emerging in England.

As the world moved in the 19th century, this game got separated into two forms. In one form, there was the provision to carry the ball with hands and in the other, handling the ball was forbidden except for the goalkeeper. During this time, the rules of the game were set and the violence associated with it was largely reduced.

Why Do So Many People Love Playing Football?

Football, unlike cricket, has no moment of dullness. There is excitement till the last second of the 90-minute game. The joy of passing the ball from the jungle of opponents, and the joy of smashing the ball to the goal is priceless. As the player is moving forward with the ball, there is always that danger of getting the ball snatched away by the opponent. Then there are expert players like Messi or Beckham who magically make the ball take a curve-turn all the while in the air.

There are also heated exchanges among the players. The players take the competition very seriously. No football fan can ever forget the head-butt of Zidane or the attitude of Ronaldo. At the same time, one can also never forget the moment of the Croatian President hugging the players of the country who sadly lost the World Cup Final in 2018. The emotions run high.

Football in India

India is known for cricket. As a result, football gets less attention here. The Bengalis are the forerunners in the football world in India. The All India Football Federation is doing all it can to promote football in the country. Apart from the traditional Santosh Trophy, in India, there are two football leagues - I-League and the Super League.

Gradually, football is gaining traction in India. In fact, India is gradually getting recognized in the international football world. The 2017 U-17 Football World cup was held in India. This is the first time that a major FIFA event took place in the country. There are many football players like Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, and more who are relevant in the psyche of the Indians.

Football is a game where people have to give their hundred percent. There is no pretension. It is not just a game of tactics and strength, but also a game of emotions.

Short Essay On Football

Football is one of the most renowned games in India. It is a widely played game in the world and it consists of a team of around 11 people. It is played both nationally and internationally. The word football has arrived from two words: foot and ball, where the players run and kick the ball with their feet towards the net on either side. It is a fun game that is very amazing to watch and also to play.

It is also known as soccer in South Africa, Australia, and North America. A very popular football tournament which is played internationally is the FIFA world cup, which is played once every 4 years. Various countries participate in this tournament.

Football is not only a physical game but also a great mental exercise which not only relieves a lot of stress but also helps improve a lot of skills like concentration, aim, tolerance and also football develops a sense of team spirit. All in all, it is a great game that enhances your skills and also refreshes your mind.

At first, it was only played in England but now it is played worldwide. It is an outdoor game and is played on big open rectangular grounds. Also, football players are the most highly paid sportsmen. Because of the excitement and thrill included in a football game, it is a famous and worldwide played game.

Lastly , playing football needs serious body fitness. The players have to run and remain active until the last moment of the game. They have to chase the ball and the opponent players to intercept; they have to protect their goals each and every second. Essay On Football

Football comes under the family of sports. Football is known to involve team spirit, unity and sportsmanship. It requires its players to have seamless strength, build and fitness. Football is a 90-minute game. The game of football consists of 2 teams containing 11 members each. The objective of each team in football is to score a goal by kicking the football into the opponent's goalpost. Here are a few sample essays on the topic ‘football’.

100 Words Essay On Football

200 words essay on football, 500 words essay on football.

Essay On Football

Football is played by 11 players on both sides in order to put the ball into the opposing goal. To play the game, players can use any part of their body except their arms or hands. Only the goalkeeper is permitted to use his hands to touch the ball. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence, and his sole responsibility is to prevent the ball from entering the net.

The team is made up of three parts: attack, midfield, and defence. The game is a test of stamina, skill, and, most importantly, teamwork. The goal is to score as many goals as possible within the duration of 90 minutes. The team with the maximum number of goals at the end of regulation time wins.

Football's first rules and regulations were written down in England in the late 1800s. The game has evolved since then. To keep up with the game, the playing style became much more complex, and more rules were added. Football is now one of the most-watched sports on the planet. The modern game of football is made up of attackers, who lead the entire team, and midfielders, who form the team's core and serve as the link between the forwards and defenders. Defenders defend against opposition attacks and protect the goal. Different formations, strategies, tactics, and techniques emerged over time, making the game more fun and interesting.

It is the coach's or the manager's responsibility to manage the entire squad. The coach may make three substitutions during a 90-minute game divided into two halves. A total of four referees oversee the entire event, including one referee, two linesmen, and a fourth official. It is the responsibility of the referees to ensure that the game runs smoothly, and the referee's decision is the final word in any case. Football is popular all over the world because of the zeal with which its players play the game. It is not an easy task to play football for a total of 90 minutes. It takes a lot of stamina as well as world-class ball control and mastery.

Professional footballers are extremely dedicated athletes who start playing football as a child and are scouted by big clubs that train them in world-class facilities. To perform on the world stage, the players must master the ball and have a brilliant footballing mind. These are not easy skills to master and necessitate years of dedication and practice.

Football Players | Pele, Maradona, Johan Cryuff, and Ronaldinho are some of the greatest footballers of all time. The current football era is dominated by two all-time greats, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. There are many heated debates about who is better, but one thing is certain: both are professional athletes with great desire and discipline.

FIFA World Cup | The FIFA World Cup, which takes place every four years, is the most important international tournament. The final event is attended by 32 countries who qualify for it. Only one team is crowned World Champion at the end of the competition. France won the World Cup in 2018 under the direction of Coach Didier Deschamps. As of 2022, the FIFA world cup was held in Qatar and the final match was won by Argentina. The four qualifying teams for the finals of FIFA 2022 were Argentina, Croatia, France and Morocco.

Popular Teams | Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, AC Milan, and many other clubs are among the best in the world. Spain, England, France, Italy, and Germany are the top five footballing nations, as determined by the popularity of their leagues, and their respective leagues are La Liga, Premier League, France Ligue 1, Serie A, and Bundesliga.

Story Of Christiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo who is sometimes also referred to as the greatest of all time revealed that his mother wanted to abort him because of poverty, his father's alcoholism, and having too many children already, but her doctor refused. Ronaldo grew up in a low-income family. He went on to become the club's first player to play for the under-16, under-17, and under-18 teams, and first teams, all in the same season. It takes a lot of stamina as well as world-class ball control and mastery. A good game sense is also required to perform well on the pitch.

Football requires a high level of physical fitness. The players must run and stay active until the end of the game. They must chase the ball and intercept opposing players at all times; they must defend their goals at all times. Head balls, chest passes, rabonas, and scissor kicks are all artistic techniques. To play the game, players can use any part of their body except their arms or hands. Only the goalkeeper is permitted to use his hands to touch the ball. The goalkeeper is the last line of defence, and his sole responsibility is to prevent the ball from entering the net. Professional football requires a great deal of dedication and discipline. Talented players are scouted when they are young, and they are trained in academies for several years before being scouted by bigger clubs based on their performance.

Who hasn’t played football? It is such a popular game, that almost everyone knows about it.

We all must’ve had played a game of football during our school days, fighting with each other over every penalty.

Not just our childhood and school days , we still might just go out for a game, in our formal clothes during lunch breaks if we get the chance.

We never get enough, because it is that type of game. But do we know the basics of the game? Do we know each and every player’s role, the fouls, the do’s and don’ts?

Table of Contents

A brief history

The oldest recorded form of football was a sport in ancient China , called Cuju. Cuju literally means kick ball . It was played during major celebrations of the empire.

It was played between two teams, each trying to put the ball between the others hoop. There were many forms of games played in Europe that resembled football, but involved more violence and use of hands.

Football is a recreational sport, played using a spherical ball. There are two teams, each containing 11 players. So in all, there are 22 players on the field including the two goalkeepers.

The match is won by the team that has the maximum number of goals, which is scored by putting the ball, called the football, into the opposing team’s goal.

In the event of an even score, extra time is awarded. If even then, the match is even, it is declared a draw. If the match is important, i.e. if it is a final or a semi final, then the winner is decided by a penalty shootout.

In a penalty shootout, 5 players of each team are pitted against the goalkeepers of the opposing team, and at expected to score the goal.

There are substitutes in both teams that are replaced mid play by the manager, or in the event that a player is injured. Each team has a manager who manages the various aspects of the side.

He has a myriad of responsibilities. They include managing player contracts, negotiating match fee, transferring players from other teams during the transfer season.

He analyses player capabilities, gives them positions in the team formation. He scouts for new talent for the team’s future, and manages their training.

The players in the modern versions of the game are divided into classes. There are strikers, defenders and mid fielders.

The strikers stay ahead in the team formation and are responsible for scoring goals and looking for chances to do the some.

The defenders are the players responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring goals and maintain the flank.

The midfielders are given the responsibility of dispossession the opponent of the ball and creating chances for a counter strike.

The goalkeepers have one of the most important duties in the team. He or she is the last line of defence of the team against an opponent attack.

A goal keeper stands guard in front of the goal and stops the ball from entering it. He or she also has the key role during penalties.

The goalkeeper is the only player allowed to hold the ball with his or her hands. The other players are forbidden to do so, except during a throw off or throw in.

Each team has a captain, whose only official duty is to take part in the coin toss before the game or the penalties.

If a player hurts another player or performs a maneuver that is against the rules, he commits a foul and maybe given a yellow card. Two yellow cards and you are out of the game.

Spirit of the football game

Football has become a major sport in today’s world. People religiously follow their beloved teams. They travel miles to watch their team play.

The football players are regarded as idols and Gods by the fans. This spirit is welcoming, but sometimes things do get out of hand.

History has seen fight resulting between the fans of rival teams, often causing havoc and chaos.

The players are often seen deliberately hurting fellow players to prevent a goal or a goal scoring opportunity, though this does not apply to all the players.

Key Points to Remember When Writing an Essay on ‘My Favourite Game’ for Lower Primary Classes

10 lines on ‘my favourite game is cricket’, essay on ‘my favourite game is kabaddi’, essay on ‘my favourite game is hockey’.

  • Essay On ‘My Favourite is Game is Ludo’

Essay on ‘My Favourite Game is Volleyball’

Short essay on ‘my favourite game is carrom’, essay on ‘my favorite sport is football’, long essay on ‘my favourite game is badminton’, what will your child learn by writing an essay on ‘my favourite game’.

If there’s one thing all children absolutely love, it is playing games. Be it an outdoor sport or an indoor game, children love their playtime. It is the time of day when they take a break from school, homework and other chores at home to have a good time. They get together with their friends and siblings, and enjoy activities that they all like. ‘My Favourite Game’ is an exciting topic for an essay for children of lower primary classes. They will be full of ideas for what to include in the composition. Organising these ideas and presenting them in words will improve their writing skills. When writing about sports, children will be expected to touch upon various aspects of it. Here are some samples which will guide children of classes 1, 2 & 3 to write about some popular sports.

‘My Favourite Game’ is a moderately challenging topic for children. They need to remember certain facts about the game of their choice and express why it is their favourite. Here are some essential tips:

  • When writing about a game, start by talking about the game’s popularity.
  • Write about the different aspects of that game that makes it your personal favourite.
  • Talk about how often you play the game.
  • Mention how it is a part of your school life.
  • Dive into details of the game only in a longer essay.

Cricket is a popular game in India, making it a topic that is easy for a short essay for children. Here is how to write a short 10-line essay on cricket for class 1.

  • Cricket is the most popular and loved sport in the country.
  • I enjoy watching cricket with my family and playing the game with my friends.
  • People in my country are very passionate about cricket and watch the matches with a lot of enthusiasm.
  • I play cricket with my friends at home and at school.
  • I am a good batsman and fielder, and my friends have the same opinion.
  • In cricket, there are 11 players on each team. Each team has a batsman, a bowler, a wicket-keeper and many fielders.
  • At the beginning, there is a coin toss. The winner chooses to bat or bowl.
  • My favourite cricket players are Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.
  • Everybody is interested in cricket scores during an important match.
  • Seeing cricket on TV is fun but going to a stadium is the most fun you can have as a cricket fan.

Kabaddi is a regional sport that has existed for many generations in India. It is a physically demanding game played by seven players on each team. In the game, two teams stand opposite each other. A player from one team enters the opponent’s court while continuously saying “kabbadi”. If he touches one of the players and returns to his side, his team wins a point. The opposite team tries to stop him from going back till he runs out of breath and stops saying kabaddi. If they manage to stop him, he loses. I am very good at Kabaddi because I can run very fast before anyone can catch me. I am also able to hold my breath for a very long time. Kabaddi is my favourite because it is a challenging game and one has to be very strong and fast to win at it.

Hockey is my favourite game because it is challenging and also a lot of fun at the same time. It is the national game of India and is also played throughout the world. In the game, there are 11 players on each team. The teams have to chase a ball with their hockey sticks and score a goal. Along with playing hockey, I also love watching it on television. Although it is a national sport, hockey is not very common in the country. The popularity needs to increase, and more people should take up the game in schools and colleges.

Essay On ‘My Favourite is Game is Ludo’

Ludo is a popular board game among all children. I play it with my family and friends on weekends when we meet. Ludo is my favourite because I can play the game anytime and anywhere. The game is also available on mobile phones, but I like playing it on the gameboard when I am home. It requires at least two players and a maximum of four. In ludo, each player gets four tokens to play. The players roll the dice turn by turn and move ahead on the board accordingly. The first player who takes all his tokens to the finishing point wins. I also have a magnetic board and tokens for playing the game while travelling to a holiday destination. I like playing ludo with new people and making new friends.

I enjoy playing all ball games, but volleyball is my favourite of them all. The game has two teams standing on opposite sides of a court with a net in between. The first team serves the ball, and the opposite team returns it by hitting the ball with their wrist. If the ball reaches out of the court boundary or touches the net, the team that hits the ball loses. The game requires you to stay focused all the time, as even a small lapse of judgment can cost you the winning point. Unlike other games where you can take your eyes off the ball, you cannot do the same in volleyball until you have gained or lost a point. I like volleyball because it is all about strong team coordination. Everybody has to cooperate and work together to win.

Carrom is one of the best board games there is! It is a two-player game, but I love playing it alone too. I enjoy it because it requires strength, accuracy and swiftness while striking every move. The game is fun but challenging because it requires precise moves with an understanding of force and direction of the strike. It took me many months to learn how to shoot the striker properly and hit the tokens on the board. It takes a lot of time to become good at the game as we need a lot of practice to excel in it.

My favourite game is football. It is a popularly played sport throughout the world! The best teams from every country make it to the world cup, and people across the globe watch it with interest. I love football because there is a sense of freedom in playing the game. It is physically demanding as we have to run around the field to score a goal and simultaneously defend our side of the goal post. I play football every day in school with my classmates. I also play football with other children in my neighbourhood. It is a great way to make friends as you learn to play as a team.

Many of us dream of becoming great footballers someday. I always work on my skills because my coach says we can make it to the state or national level championships if we play well. Football is just as much about strategy and teamwork as it is about physical endurance. We also need great discipline and team cohesion to become a great football team.

When writing a long essay, students have to plan what they are about to write. For writing about a sport, they will need to give a few details about the game and why they like it in the rest of the essay. Here is a sample essay on badminton for students of class 3:

Badminton is a popular sport throughout the world. Many people worldwide watch it on TV, and many play it as a leisure sport. My interest in badminton started when I visited the sports centre in our locality. I was hooked on the sport soon after my first game. Unlike many other games that I play, I find that badminton is fun and challenging at the same time. The game requires two players. We need great stamina to move around the court to serve and return the shuttlecock by hitting it with the racket.

Badminton can be played by anyone as long as they love games. There are a few rules for playing the game in a competition or championship. You can choose to relax some of the rules and play just for fun as per your own plan.

Badminton is a game that gives a full-body workout. You will have to constantly move around the court in the direction of the shuttlecock and hit it using your racket with the required force. Throughout the game, you exercise your legs, torso and upper body.

I am known as the best badminton player in my school because I practise in the evening every day. I have participated in many events at the regional and national levels, and won several championships. In recent years, badminton has also become popular in video games. My love for the sport makes me play that too, however, I prefer to play the sport on an actual court with a real opponent. The thrill of hitting the shuttlecock high into the air and running around to chase it is unmatched in a video game.

When writing an essay on their favourite game, your child will learn how to express themselves coherently in the written word. Writing about sports involves explaining the rules of a game, its unique rules, and several other aspects. Students will gather thorough knowledge about their favourite sport to write this essay. They will also improve their general knowledge while memorising facts like famous players of the sport.

Since playing games is a fun activity for children, they will enjoy writing this essay as they combine their knowledge, feelings and writing skills to compose an excellent essay.

Essay on Football 500 Words in English

Below we have provided an Essay on Football in English, suitable for class 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.

There is a long list of outdoor games. However, among all those outdoor games, the most played game is football. This is an extremely famous game played not only in India but all over the world. Playing football is highly beneficial for health. It involves several exercises, which make people healthy, energetic, quick, and active. That is the reason why people love playing football. Being a physical game, it is played using legs and head. The goalkeeper is the only person who is allowed to catch the ball with his hands. As the name suggests, football is played by striking the ball with the foot.

History of Football

Football has a very long and striking history. Football, soccer, and rugby are believed to have originated from the ancient Greek game of harpastum. The most famous story tells that the game was developed in England in the 12th century. There was no distinction between football and rugby for a very long time. It was played in a very rough and brutal manner in which teams have to kick the ball past the goal line to score. In London, a meeting was held in which it was decided to divide the game into two parts: football and rugby. Earlier, only men played it; later, women were also involved.

How to Play Football Game?

It is an exciting game played between two teams. Each team consists of 11 players, out of which one is a goalkeeper. There is a referee to control the game and make sure that everyone plays fair. Two-goal posts are there at each end of the ground. The main focus is to score more goals than the opponent team in 90 minutes. The match is split into two halves, each of 45 minutes. There is half a time of 15 minutes. The sides are changed after the interval.

In the beginning, the ball is kept on the center of the ground. The game begins when the referee whistles. Players of each team try to pass the ball through the opposite goal post without touching the ball with their hands. They can pass the ball by using their legs and heads only. The goalkeeper is the only person who is allowed to catch the ball with his hands. To gain a point, the ball must go into the opponent’s goal. More goals scoring team wins the game.

From LSU to Oregon, historic commitments dot the 2025 college football recruiting class

Believe it or not, but bryce underwood could be the first no. 1 recruit to sign with lsu.

getty-brian-kelly-lsu.jpg

On Wednesday, 247Sports released an update to the Top247 rankings for the class of 202 5, serving as the last update before the most important data point in the evaluation process: senior seasons. The combination of an escalating NIL landscape and shakeups in conference realignment has led to nearly a half dozen schools claiming their highest-rated commits ever, per 247Sports, as we approach the 2024 season.

While this update is the most comprehensive look at the rising senior class to this point, it should be noted that there will still be plenty of moves made in the three updates before rankings become finalized after the second National Signing Period in early February of 2025. For example at this stage of the evaluation process last cycle, defensive end Deshawn Warner was a three-star with an 87 grade before entering the Top247 at No. 173 in October and finishing as the Kansas Jayhawks ' highest-ranked signee of all time, finishing at No. 67 after a stellar senior campaign and an impressive showing at the All-American Bowl.

Here is a look at six committed prospects who currently hold the No. 1 spot on their respective schools' all-time commit list according to 247Sports.

LSU QB commit Bryce Underwood

No. 1 overall in top247.

It might be hard to believe, but if current No. 1 overall player Bryce Underwood can hold off a charge from Ohio State quarterback commit Tavien St. Clair and others, the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder would become the first No. 1 prospect to sign with the Bayou powerhouse. Underwood has a stellar 40-2 record as a starter over three years at Belleville High School in Michigan and can drive the football into tight coverage windows operating in a pro-style spread attack. Underwood's projectable physical tools and elite high school production are even more impressive when considering the future Tiger is only 16-years-old and will not turn 17 until the week before the first game of his senior season.

The Tigers have previously signed two No. 2 overall prospects per 247Sports' rankings in Leonard Fournette and Derek Stingley.

Oregon  WR commit Dakorien Moore

No. 5 overall in top247.

Green fireworks replaced the traditional red, white, and blue pyrotechnics in Duncanville, Texas this Fourth of July as the No. 1 wide receiver for the class of 2025 selected the Ducks over a heavy-hitting final group of Texas, Ohio State, and LSU. Moore is a freakshow athlete with wind-legal 10.4 100m dash speed and immense technical skill at the wide receiver position which manifested in a junior campaign that saw him total 71 receptions, 1,523 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns for back-to-back Texas 6A Division I state champions Duncanville.

247Sports National Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks has said on multiple occasions that Moore plays the game with a "deserved swagger" which pairs nicely with Ducks' head coach Dan Lanning who is certainly recruiting with cigar-puffing swagger as Oregon appears to be trending with two additional top 10 prospects in Jonah Williams and DJ Pickett en route to a potentially historic recruiting haul.

New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux finished No. 6 overall in the 2019 recruiting cycle per 247Sports before starring with Oregon and becoming the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft .

Kansas State  TE commit Linkon Cure

No. 26 overall in top247.

There might not be a better feeling for diehard college football fans outside of winning games in the fall than earning a commitment from an in-state five-star prospect. Kansas State fans got exactly that on the first day of July when the No. 26 player in the country spurned Oregon, Texas A&M , and rival Kansas to put on the purple and white. Cure plays wide receiver at the prep level for Goodland High School in Kansas, but his estimated 6-foot-6, 220 pound billing makes the eventual transition to tight end a rather easy one to project. The five-star Kansan is extremely elusive for his size after the catch, and further displays his elite athletic profile with above-the-rim showstopping moments on the basketball court and three state title winning performances over the last two years in the 110m and 300m hurdles.

Kansas State starting quarterback Avery Johnson is the Wildcats' highest-rated signee in the modern recruiting era, finishing as the No. 85 overall prospect per 247Sports in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

SMU OT commit Dramodd Odoms

No. 57 overall in top247.

It didn't take long for Rhett Lashlee and SMU to find another No. 1 all-time commit after new five-star quarterback Keelon Russell (No. 10 overall ) flipped to Alabama in early June. The Mustangs' move to the ACC and deep NIL collective pockets have led to a potentially historic 2025 recruiting haul that currently ranks No. 20 in the country, highlighted by 247Sports' No. 57 overall player Dramodd Odoms. The No. 7 offensive tackle prospect in the country was verified this offseason hovering around 6-foot-6, 275 pounds and has showcased the desired athletic traits to stick at left tackle long-term over three years starting for Houston prospect factory Lamar High School, home to former Pro-Bowlers Brian Orakpo and Josh Gordon.

SMU starting quarterback Preston Stone is the Mustangs' highest-rated signee in the modern recruiting era, finishing as the No. 148 overall prospect per 247Sports in the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Texas State commits LB Ke'Von Carter , EDGE Niklas Fisher

Top-100 players in texas, 88 ratings.

Texas State head coach G.J. Kinne made a statement in his first game in charge of the Bobcats, taking Texas State to Waco and knocking off Baylor . Kinne and the Bobcats are following up on their record-setting 2023 season which saw them win the first bowl game in program history with a historic recruiting haul, headlined by two prospects who would be the highest-rated signees in program history. Front-seven defenders Ke'Von Carter and Niklas Fisher both have three-star 88 grades to their name and ooze developmental upside. Texas State's highest-rated signee sported an 86 rating, so the Bobcats are clearly recruiting at a higher level than ever before.

A product of San Antonio Wagner , Carter is a rangy linebacker with a decorated track and field profile, while Fisher is a well-put-together edge rusher who dominated Houston area 6A competition as a junior for Cypress Ranch. Texas State will be a popular dynasty selection in the upcoming EA Sports CFB 25 video game, and if Texas State can keep Kinne from taking a ride on the coaching carousel the Bobcats should be loaded with Power Four quality talent on both sides of the ball for years to come.

IU football reaches into Ohio for 3 commitments in 2 days

essay on football for class 1

  • Curt Cignetti's recruiting class has as many players from Ohio as it does Indiana so far.

BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football landed three verbal commitments for its 2025 signing class from Ohio players over a 36-hour span

It started with Winton Woods defensive back Seaonta Stewart picking the Hoosiers on Monday afternoon.

Princeton linebacker Paul Nelson and Findlay offensive lineman Baylor Wilkin followed suit on Tuesday. They announced their commitments within minutes of each other to give IU 21 verbal commitments in the class.

'IT IS HOME.' Lawrence North WR Davion Chandler flips commitment from Illinois to IU

MORE RECRUITING: It was a busy week for IU with a fresh batch of commitments

Stewart, who also took official visits to West Virginia and Purdue, was the highest-ranked player of the bunch. The 6-2, 180-pound defender is the fourth member of the class ranked among the top 750 players in the country (No. 686) per 247Sports composite rankings .

I would like to thank all the coaches who recruited me ! ❤️ Hoosier nation let’s gooo! pic.twitter.com/eqQSCfXi1y — Seaonta “c3” Stewart Jr (@SeaontaStewart3) July 8, 2024

According to 247Sports, the three-star recruit had 19 scholarship offers including ones from Oklahoma, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Tennessee.

It continues a trend of IU's staff focusing on bulking up the team's secondary. While Stewart has positional flexibility — he's listed on recruiting services as an athlete — he's the fifth defensive back in the class.

Nelson had verbally committed to Cincinnati in June, but that decision came before he took an official visit to Bloomington. The defender attended Princeton High School that’s located less than 20 miles from the Bearcats’ campus in downtown Cincinnati.

The three-star defender had 16 scholarship offers including ones from Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and Michigan State. He was the No. 1,140 nationally ranked recruit and No. 113 linebacker in the 2025 class.

Wilkin was a three-star interior offensive lineman with a list of scholarship offers that got a lot longer in June. The Hoosiers offered him along with Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Western Kentucky and Navy over a span of 10 days.

All three players fall within the region new Indiana coach Curt Cignetti laid out when he took the job. The Hoosiers has as many verbal commitments from Ohio (four) as in-state prospects.

“I think most teams across the country, the plan is about the same,” Cignetti said back in December. “You've got to do a great job in your state and the border states, 4 1/2, 5-hour radius.”

Indiana has 12 commitments within a five-hour drive from Bloomington that includes two recruits from Tennessee, two from Illinois and one from Missouri, but the new staff has promised to venture out as far as necessary to land the right mix of talent.

“Wherever they are, we'll find them,” Cignetti said. “If we think they're a good fit and a good match, then we'll get them on campus.”

One Of The Nation's Top Athletes For The 2025 Class Receives Multiple Predictions To Land At Virginia Tech

Jackson caudell | jul 8, 2024.

2025 Athlete Micah Matthews

  • Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech might be on the verge of landing one of the nation's top athletes.

Today, four-star athlete Micah Matthews received multiple 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions to land with the Hokies. While the Crystal Ball Predictions are never a guarantee, it does give a good indication of where this recruitiment seems to headed.

I have joined @EvanGWatkins247 in placing a crystal ball pick for the #Hokies to land top in-state target, 4⭐️ dual-sport athlete Micah Matthews. Why? ⬇️ 🍨: https://t.co/dJxsCbsyYp pic.twitter.com/RJXMYLTFhZ — Kolby Crawford (@kolby_crawford) July 8, 2024

Matthews is rated as the No. 112 player in the entire country, the No. 4 athlete in the country, and the No. 5 player in the state of Virginia. He took an official visit to Virginia Tech in June. Other offers that Matthews holds are Utah, BYU, Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, NC State, and West Virginia, among others.

Here is a scouting report on Matthews courtesy of 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins:

"High major prospect in baseball and is currently rated the No. 54 high school player in the country by Baseball America and No. 43 by Draft Analyst. Will double sport in college and is an intriguing wide receiver prospect with size, speed and production. Had close to 1,500 yards receiving as a junior and 907 of those yards were after the catch. Big, strong kid with an athletic frame. Runs well, can get off press and is very good in 50-50 ball situations. Has excellent tracking skills which was no doubt helped by his baseball background. Has some suddenness to him, plays quick and shows off the top end speed to out run defenders who have the angle on him. Has some physicality to his game as well, fearless going over the middle, has strong hands and runs through defenders. Also a very good and willing blocker who puts guys on their backs. Not as polished as other receivers but the physical tools are obvious and it will be fun to watch his continued development as a two-sport guy."

Here are some stats and info on Matthews, courtesy of 247Sports analyst Gabe Brooks:

"A one time commit to South Carolina for baseball but backed off. Currently rated the No. 54 high school player in the country by Baseball AmericaIn 15 games of available data (per MaxPreps), Matthews finished his sophomore baseball season with a .400 batting average, 1 HR, and 10 RBI. Eight of his 18 hits went for extra bases. He struck out only 7 times and walked 13 times, posting a .550 OBP and an 1.194 OPS.

2023: Junior season, caught 86 balls for 1,476 yards and 16 TDs, 907 of those yards were picked up after the catch.2022: Finished sophomore football campaign with 63 receptions for 974 yards and 10 TDs on 15.4 yards per reception."
