Thesis Introduction Writing:

Here is where we will assist you as you outline your full study, providing some context for the issue and describing the problem you’ve identified, the specific purpose of your study, the research questions you propose to answer through your data collection, and the overall study design.

We can ensure that your introduction includes citations of both recent and seminal studies in your discipline that justify your specific approach in your research.

Literature Review:

Often the most time-consuming element of thesis writing is developing a thorough literature review –and if your university requires a 2-3 chapter literature review including 100-200 sources (as is often the case for our thesis writing clients in the UK and other Commonwealth countries), this is especially the case! That being said, the literature review is critical to the success of your thesis, as this section will reinforce the existence of a current gap in research that your study will address. This section will also outline the theoretical or conceptual framework for your approach, and if you are a novice researchers, we can absolutely draw on our expertise across a wide range of disciplines to help you identify the best theory or theories to guide your inquiry.

Methodology: Research, Structure, and Detailed Explanation of Methods

We can help you provide a detailed explanation of your research design, including why the selection of a your specific quantitative or qualitative research approach is best to investigate your particular research questions and hypotheses (if appropriate). As with the previous sections, this chapter will incorporate references to established researchers and research methods to prove the credibility of your specific methodology. We’ll be sure that this work includes any and all relevant information regarding your data collection instruments and explain and justify your sampling strategy for your participants, your proposed data collection methods, and your specific testing plan and/or qualitative analysis protocol.

In finalizing your methodology, we’ll be sure you address all ethical considerations and potential limitations (such as your assumptions as a researcher, and the validity and reliability of your data) in full.

Thesis Data Analysis and Results:

Since many thesis projects include primary and/or secondary data analysis, we’ve become familiar with a wide variety of government databases, school-based data, standardized test data, medical data, financial reports, in addition to virtually every type of qualitative data such as interviews, focus groups, primary historical documents, and speeches, among many others. Regardless of your specific dataset or data collection instrument, we can import and clean (if necessary) your data, prior to completing whatever qualitative or statistical analysis you might require. We’re experts in quite sophisticated statistical analysis (including path analysis and SEM), as well as in-depth qualitative analysis protocols often required for exploratory or larger-scale research projects, so we’re well-equipped to assist with virtually any data analysis and results discussion. As part of our comprehensive assistance to draft your results, we can incorporate tables and figures, as appropriate, to provide clear visual illustrations of each of your key findings. At the end of this process, we would be able to provide you with all the files generated by the coding, as SPSS, NVivo, and/or pdf files, as appropriate.

Discussion and Conclusion:

Based on the findings outlined in the results section, we can help you draft a full discussion and conclusions section , providing critical analysis of your findings to highlight their significance for implementation and future research on your topic, both for the population and/or region represented by your dataset or participants, and with discussion of how the findings intersect with more general research in the field. Essentially, your results will guide the organization of this section’s discussion of the broader landscape of your research. By incorporating significant discussion of current scholarship in the field, this section will, in the process, confirm the importance of your results. Finally, this section would describe any limitations that emerged from your research and make recommendations for continued research, before summarizing the thesis in full.

Final Thesis Editing (MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard, and more):

Once your thesis is completed, we can help conduct a thorough edit of the work following any major editing standard including APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, and Turabian. We would ensure that your document is ready to submit based on a comprehensive review for grammar, sentence structure, overall formatting (both for your selected editing standard and your university’s requirements ), references, citations, preliminaries, and appendices.

Defense Preparation and Coaching:

We see ourselves as teachers and would love to assist you so that you’re ready to present your work confidently to your review board. For a better idea of how we approach this assistance, please visit our dissertation defense page .

For all of our thesis writing clients, we offer free initial personal consultations to gain an in-depth understanding of your university’s requirements and your personal goals for your thesis. This level of personal attention ensures that you receive approval as efficiently as possible. This is part of our overall approach to provide you with customized assistance based on your needs. Many of our clients who come to us for thesis help have a completed thesis and need help revising the work based on specifically requested revisions. In these cases, we carefully review the changes being requested, discuss them with you, and develop a plan to optimally and completely address each and every change your advisor may have requested. We also cover any additional revisions in our thesis help so that you can be sure that your work will be 100% approved.

Let’s keep it a secret…

In this first video, we’ll talk about a key characteristic of all well-designed research, which is alignment. [does some funny little voice while enunciating the individual syllables of “a-lign-ment” while gesturing in a left-to-right line to set the stage for the visual presentation of alignment that is to come] Whether you are a beginning researcher, conducting your earliest research projects for your master’s or doctoral degrees, or a seasoned researcher conducting studies for publication, achieving alignment in your study is super important. It’s an area that we find our clients need lots of help with when doing their dissertations. So, I’ll be talking with you today about alignment to provide you with a clear and more concrete understanding of what alignment means, as well as with an understanding of how to achieve alignment in your study and why this is so important.

Creating alignment is a key part of developing your topic, and if you’re still looking to more fully develop your own topic, we can provide help with your dissertation focus and other elements for you. Check out our video on topic development for more!

Alignment is an essential characteristic of a well-designed study, and yet it can be quite difficult to achieve for novice researchers. In fact, we often provide dissertation help to clients who are struggling to align their studies. And, we commonly find that alignment issues are truly the root problem that reviewers often mislabel as editing issues at the dissertation prospectus, concept paper, or proposal stage.

So before you focus your efforts on APA editing needlessly, let’s talk first about how to achieve alignment in your study, starting with what alignment means. When your study is appropriately aligned, this means that all of the core pieces of your research plan follow logically from the problem that you have constructed from your review of the research literature. Following your problem statement, you must craft the subsequent pieces of your research plan so that they all match one another in terms of the language that you use to discuss variables or phenomena of interest, and the plans you construct for collecting and analyzing your data. As I mentioned previously, we often find that master’s and doctoral candidates, as novice researchers, need some dissertation help when different pieces of their studies don’t quite fit together as well as they should. When we provide this form of dissertation consulting, here are the areas that we ensure are aligned:

The key features of the study that must be aligned are the problem statement, the purpose statement, the research questions, the theoretical framework, the method and design, the data collection and analysis procedures, and the significance of the study.

You might visualize these different key pieces of your study as boxcars on a train that must all be linked together for your study to function successfully as a process for gaining new insights or understanding of your topic.

If any of these cars are not linked to the car preceding it, then clearly your study will be a nonfunctional collection of segments that don’t work well with one another. In other words, the train falls apart and never gets to its destination! We don’t want that, do we? To clarify how these different segments of your study fit together, let’s move on to discuss each of these in more detail.

The problem statement is essentially the centerpiece of your study, or the engine that drives the train forward. Although this statement is usually fairly brief, at about 350 words or so, the information contained within the statement defines the direction the entire study will follow.

Your problem statement must define the exact nature of the problem as derived through a thorough review of all current research in the peer-reviewed literature related to your topic. The problem statement must also describe the research gap, which refers to a specific topic that has not been studied sufficiently and requires further examination through research.

As an example, your problem statement might revolve around high school students who engage in aggressive behaviors at school in spite of the presence of a schoolwide positive behavior support program. Maybe there have been several quantitative studies that document the overall positive effects of this type of schoolwide program on student challenging behavior, but the researchers who conducted these studies found that in spite of widespread improvements in behavior in response to such programs, many students continue to exhibit aggressive behavior, leaving us to ask: Why is this? Why is it that certain kids keep fighting and yelling at school, even under a behavior support program that has been so helpful to so many other students?

The lack of understanding of continued aggressive behavior by some students within schools that use schoolwide positive behavior supports would be the gap that these researchers argue must be better understood if we are to effectively address aggressive behavior across all students.

Now, following from this problem and research gap is the purpose of the study, or the purpose statement. The purpose is a very concise statement that basically says, “This is what I’m trying to do here in this study, and here’s how I’m going to do it.” In order to achieve alignment, the purpose must match what has been stated in the problem statement, which is accomplished through use of the same language to describe your variables or phenomena of interest. The purpose statement must also specify the method and design and must use language that “fits” this approach.

Using the example of the problem and research gap from above, an appropriate purpose statement might be: “The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore middle school teachers’ perspectives on underlying causes of continued aggressive behavior in students within schools that use schoolwide positive behavior supports.”

Let’s have a look at the key pieces of this purpose statement.

So, we have a qualitative case study, the word “explore,” middle school teachers’ perspectives, continued aggressive behavior in students, and schools that use schoolwide positive behavior supports. So, those are all the key pieces of the purpose statement.

What you’ll notice here is that this purpose statement specifies an intent to examine the very same problem that is described in the problem statement. This is essential for achieving alignment.

Also, the qualitative method is aligned with the problem because we are seeking to understand a phenomenon that is somewhat rare, and that might require perspectives of those who have witnessed this problem first-hand to understand fully. Note also the use of the word “explore” in the purpose statement. This is a deliberate choice of words as qualitative studies are largely exploratory, and aimed at using such exploration to better understand complex processes.

The link from the problem to the purpose is essential to establishing an aligned study. We often find that doctoral candidates need some assistance with their dissertations here as the phrasing used in the purpose statement must be extremely concise and yet precisely aligned with each key concept, variable, or phenomenon as presented in the problem statement.

This is something that many of our clients struggle with, and if you are also finding yourself struggling to align your problem and purpose, give us a call or send an email to see how we can help you out with this major step in crafting your dissertation. No matter where you attend, we can definitely help you out with alignment.

But, we have particularly extensive experience with all of the major online universities, and are very familiar with their formats, review processes, and the types of alignment problems that often arise for individuals at these universities. And, if we help you with establishing alignment in your dissertation, we’ll provide unlimited revisions to our work with no extra charge as needed to obtain approval of your work.

Next in the alignment chain are the research questions, which must align with your purpose in terms of the variables or phenomena of interest that you plan to study. You must also use phrasing in these questions that is consistent with the method and design for your study. In the working example I have been using, an appropriate research question might be, “How do middle school teachers working in schools that implement schoolwide positive behavior supports perceive the causes for continued aggression in students in their schools?” Note that this question maintains consistent focus on the perceptions of middle school teachers, that the question specifies that schoolwide positive behavior supports are in place, and continues with the focus on causes for continued aggression in some students.

Next is the theoretical framework, which must be appropriate for guiding inquiry and developing research questions that suitably address your problem. It must also fit your study in terms of its applicability for interpreting or explaining the ultimate findings or results of the analysis. In the current example, it would be important to pick a theory that is relevant to student behavior and the causes for different types of behavior. So, picking a theory like Observational Learning Theory or Ecological Systems Theory would work, as these are theories that explain human behavior in terms of different types of social and environmental influences.

Aligning the theoretical framework to the purpose statement and RQs can also be a bit tricky for new researchers. Choosing a useful TF requires seeing how the different variables or phenomena of interest in your study might interact with regard to your specific RQs or outcomes of interest; this can sometimes require piecing together existing knowledge on your topic and making a reasonable guess as to the theory or combination of theories that might ultimately be helpful in explaining your findings. Sometimes this process can be quite confusing, especially when you are examining RQs that are unique or groundbreaking. In this case, you might find that you need help reworking this part of your dissertation to identify the most fitting theory or combination of theories to frame your study and interpret its findings.

Moving forward, the method and design must be appropriate for examining the specific problem articulated, and for generating knowledge that will truly shed light on the problem as described. As I mentioned previously, the qualitative method would be appropriately aligned to this study because of your aim of exploring a poorly understood phenomenon, which is the continued aggression in certain students in spite of schoolwide positive behavior supports.

The case study design is also aligned with this focus, because this design is great for building understanding of complex processes as they naturally occur in specific groups or settings. You can see how exploring teachers’ perceptions of the causes of aggression within certain schools would turn out to be a very complex study, which would be concerned with how the complexities of student behavior unfold on a daily basis within schools that use positive behavior supports. For these reasons, the qualitative case study design is nicely aligned with the overall study.

Also, keep in mind that we are unique among data analytics companies in that we also specialize in qualitative research and analysis, so if you are planning a qualitative study and are having problems with alignment, I am 100% sure that we can help you to resolve these problems.

To maintain alignment, your data collection procedures must be developed to obtain data of a type that is appropriate given the method and design. Similarly, the data analysis plan must be appropriate given the nature of the data, variables, research design.

For a qualitative case study design, you would want to use data collection approaches like interviews, observations, and review of relevant documents. You would want to draw up an analysis plan that identified common themes and facilitated triangulation across your different data sources. If you put together a data collection plan that used quantitative measures, this would result in misalignment, as the data you collected would be numerical rather than text-based.

Aligning your methods to your problem, purpose, and research questions is essential for ensuring that the results or findings you ultimately obtain truly address the problem that you have identified. Creating an aligned method requires not just attention to consistent phrasing related to your variables or phenomena of interest, but also a thorough understanding of statistical analysis or qualitative analysis. We often provide dissertation help to clients to develop thorough methods sections that are perfectly aligned with the overall aims of their studies.

We have extensive experience with all of the major online universities, and are very familiar with their formats, review processes, and the types of alignment problems that often arise for individuals at these universities. Also, we are the only academic consulting firm that specializes in qualitative research. If you are planning a qualitative study and are having problems with aligning the various components of your qualitative methodology, we can definitely help you out. Also, we provide unlimited revisions to our work with no extra charge as needed to obtain approval of your work.

Finally, the significance refers to the potentially positive outcomes of your study, if all goes well. To maintain alignment, your significance of the study section must logically flow from the problem, and cannot overreach the bounds of what is possible to accomplish given the potential findings of the study.

Given our running example, an aligned significance section would point out that gaining understanding of teachers’ perceptions of the causes for continued aggression in students within a schoolwide positive behavior support program might be helpful in effectively addressing challenging behavior in students whose behavior is resistant to change.

Ensuring that your proposed study is perfectly aligned is important for obtaining approval of your study. But, the reasons for seeking out dissertation help around alignment issues in your proposed study are really much more important than this. If you move forward with collecting your data in a proposed study that is not well aligned, you can run into some serious problems down the road.

To help explain the vital importance of alignment in your study, it will be helpful to ask: Why is it a problem if elements of my study are not aligned?

If your study is out of alignment, this means that one or more of these key pieces aren’t linked with the pieces around them.

There are some pretty serious consequences of moving forward with an improperly aligned study. For one, it could result in collecting data that do not address your problem, or that cannot actually answer your research questions. Also, this could result in conducting data analysis that results in unreliable, invalid, or untrustworthy findings. Lastly, a misaligned study could result in findings that cannot be soundly interpreted within the explanatory theoretical framework for the study.

These are clearly problems that no researcher wants to deal with, especially when you are just getting started. This is definitely where a dissertation consultant can come in handy, and if you would like some help with your dissertation proposal or prospectus to resolve alignment problems, give us a call or send an email — we’d love to help you out!

How to Write a Master's Thesis Proposal

How to Write a Master's Thesis Proposal

How to write a master’s thesis proposal is one of the most-asked questions by graduate students. A master's thesis proposal involves a copious amount of data collection, particular presentation ethics, and most importantly, it will become the roadmap to your full thesis. Remember, you must convince your committee that your idea is strong and unique, and that you have done enough legwork to begin with the first few drafts of your final thesis. Your proposal should serve as a foundational blueprint on which you will later build your entire project. To have the perfect thesis proposal, you need to have original ideas, solid information, and proper presentation. While it is a good idea to take assistance from thesis writing services , you still need to personally understand the elements that contribute to a master’s thesis proposal worthy of approval. How to decide the goals for your master's thesis.

If you are pursuing a master’s or a PhD , you will be undertaking a major research paper or a thesis. Thus, writing a thesis proposal becomes inevitable. Your major objective for pursuing a master’s degree is to improve your knowledge in your field of study. When you start your degree, you delve deeper into different concepts in your discipline and try to search for answers to all kinds of questions. If you come across a question that no one can answer, you can select that question as your research thesis topic.

A master's thesis proposal will have multiple sections depending on your decided layout. These sections will continuously support your argument and try to convince the reader of your core argument. The structure will also help you arrange the various parts of the paper to have a greater impact on the readers. A paper should always begin with you giving a brief summary of the topic and how you have come across it. The introduction is particularly important because it will give the readers a brief idea about the topic of discussion and win their interest in the matter.

After the summary has been given, slowly you need to progress into the body of the thesis proposal which would explain your argument, research methodology, literary texts that have a relation to the topic, and the conclusion of your study. It would be similar to an essay or a literary review consisting of 3 or 4 parts. The bibliography will be placed at the end of the paper so that people can cross-check your sources.

Let's take a look at the sections most master's thesis proposals should cover. Please note that each university has its own guidelines for how to structure and what to include in a master’s thesis proposal. The outline we provide below is general, so please make sure to follow the exact guidelines provided by your school:

Restate your primary argument and give us a glimpse of what you will include in the main master\u2019s thesis. Leave the reader wanting more. Your research proposal should talk about what research chapters you are trying to undertake in your final thesis. You can also mention the proposed time in which you will complete these chapters.  ","label":"Conclusion and proposed chapters","title":"Conclusion and proposed chapters"}]" code="tab1" template="BlogArticle">

A thesis proposal needs to be convincing enough to get approval. If the information is not enough to satisfy the evaluation committee, it would require revision. Hence, you need to select and follow the right methodology to make your argument convincing. When a research proposal is presented, the reader will determine the validity of your argument by judging the strength of your evidence and conclusions. Therefore, even writige:ng a proposal will require extensive research on your part. You should start writing your thesis proposal by working through the following steps.

Interested in a summary of the points covered below? Check out this infographic:

Exploring your topic in detail

You need to delve deeper into your chosen topic to see if your idea is original. In the process of this exploration, you will find tons of materials that will be supportive of your argument. When choosing your research topic and the problem you want to explore, you should always consider your primary research interest (yes, the one which you had mentioned in your research interest statement during grad school applications) for a better master’s thesis. You have a high probability of performing better in an area that you have always liked as compared to any other research area or topic.

Reviewing the literature

You have to include all the sources from where you have formed your argument and mention them in the thesis proposal. If you neglect to mention important source texts, the reader may consider it to be plagiarism. Furthermore, you want to keep track of all your research because it will be easier to provide references if you know the exact source of each piece of information.

Finding opposing arguments for your study

You should also mention any texts that would counter your argument and try to disprove their claims in the thesis. Make sure to use evidence if you try to disprove the counterarguments you face.

Emphasizing the importance of your research

At the end of the thesis proposal, you need to convince the reader why your proposal is important to your chosen field of study, which would ultimately help you in getting your topic approved. Thus, it is essential to outline the importance of your research thoroughly.

Drafting your proposal

After doing proper research, you should go ahead and draft your proposal. Remember you will not get it right in just one draft, it will take at least 50 attempts to come up with a satisfactory proposal. You should proofread your draft several times and even have a fellow student review it for you before sending it further to your research supervisor.

Getting your proposal evaluated by your supervisor

After you have written sufficient drafts, you need to get your proposal evaluated by your research supervisor. This is necessary to meet the graduate research requirements. It will ensure the clarity and correctness of your proposal. For your supervisor to evaluate your proposal, you should complete the research methodology part along with sufficient proposed work.

Since your supervisor will play a crucial role in your master's research thesis, you must choose a supervisor who can be your ultimate guide in writing your master's thesis. They will be your partner and support system during your study and will help you in eliminating obstacles to achieving your goal.

Choosing the ideal supervisor is a pretty daunting task. Here’s how you can go about the process:

The length of a master’s thesis proposal differs from university to university and depends on the discipline of research as well. Usually, you have to include all the above-mentioned sections, and the length is around 8 pages and can go up to 12-15 pages for subjects such as the liberal arts. Universities might also define the number of words in the guidelines for your master’s thesis proposal and you have to adhere to that word limit.

Are you debating between pursuing a Masters or a PhD? This video has details that can help you decide which is best for you:

How to Format a Research Thesis Proposal Correctly?

Now that you know how to write a thesis proposal, you must make it presentable. Although your school might give your specific instructions, you can keep in mind some of the general advice:

  • You can use some basic font like Times New Roman and keep the font size to 10 or 12 points.
  • The left margin should be 1.5 inches and all other margins should be 1 inch each.
  • You should follow double-spacing for your content.
  • The first line of paragraphs should be indented 0.5 inches and the paragraphs should be left or center aligned.

Tips to Write a Strong Master's Thesis Proposal

When you are writing your master’s thesis proposal, you should keep these tips in mind to write an excellent master’s thesis proposal with all the correct elements to get approval from the evaluating committee:

Select your research objectives wisely

You should be clear on what you wish to learn from your research. Your learning objectives should stem from your research interests. If you are unsure, refer to your grad school career goals statement to review what you wanted out of grad school in the first place. Then, choose your objectives around it.

Write a clear title

The title of your research proposal should be concise and written in a language that can be understood easily by others. The title should be able to give the reader an idea of your intended research and should be interesting.

Jot down your thoughts, arguments, and evidence

You should always start with a rough outline of your arguments because you will not miss any point in this way. Brainstorm what you want to include in the proposal and then expand those points to complete your proposal. You can decide the major headings with the help of the guidelines provided to you.

Focus on the feasibility and importance

You should consider whether your research is feasible with the available resources. Additionally, your proposal should clearly convey the significance of your research in your field.

Use simple language

Since the evaluation committee can have researchers from different subject areas, it is best to write your proposal in a simple language that is understandable by all.

Stick to the guidelines

Your university will be providing the guidelines for writing your research proposal. You should adhere to those guidelines strictly since your proposal will be primarily evaluated on the basis of those.

Have an impactful opening section

It is a no-brainer that the opening statement of your proposal should be powerful enough to grasp the attention of the readers and get them interested in your research topic. You should be able to convey your interest and enthusiasm in the introductory section.

Peer review prior to submission

Apart from working with your research supervisor, it is essential that you ask some classmates and friends to review your proposal. The comments and suggestions that they give will be valuable in helping you to make the language of your proposal clearer.

You have worked hard to get into grad school and even harder on searching your research topic. Thus, you must be careful while building your thesis proposal so that you have maximum chances of acceptance.

If you're curious how your graduate school education will differ from your undergraduate education, take a look at this video so you know what to expect:

Writing the perfect research proposal might be challenging, but keeping to the basics might make your task easier. In a nutshell, you need to be thorough in your study question. You should conduct sufficient research to gather all relevant materials required to support your argument. After collecting all data, make sure to present it systematically to give a clearer understanding and convince the evaluators to approve your proposal. Lastly, remember to submit your proposal well within the deadline set by your university. Your performance at grad school is essential, especially if you need a graduate degree to gain admission to med school and your thesis contributes to that performance. Thus, start with a suitable research problem, draft a strong proposal, and then begin with your thesis after your proposal is approved.

In your master’s thesis proposal, you should include your research topic and the problem statement being addressed in your research, along with a proposed solution. The proposal should explain the importance and limitations of your research.

The length of a master’s thesis proposal is outlined by the university in the instructions for preparing your master’s thesis proposal.

The time taken to write a master’s thesis proposal depends upon the study which you are undertaking and your discipline of research. It will take a minimum time of three months. The ideal time can be around six months.

You should begin your master’s thesis proposal by writing an introduction to your research topic. You should state your topic clearly and provide some background. Keep notes and rough drafts of your proposal so you can always refer to them when you write the first real draft.

The basic sections that your master’s thesis proposal should cover are the problem statement, research methodology, proposed activities, importance, and the limitations of your research.

A master’s thesis proposal which clearly defines the problem in a straightforward and explains the research methodology in simple words is considered a good thesis proposal.

You can use any classic font for your master’s thesis proposal such as Times New Roman. If you are recommended a specific font in the proposal guidelines by your institution, it would be advisable to stick to that.

The ideal font size for your master’s thesis proposal will be 10 or 12 points.

Business/Management Dissertation & Theses

While the ideas we’ve presented above are a decent starting point for finding a business-related research topic, they are fairly generic and non-specific. So, it helps to look at actual dissertations and theses to see how this all comes together.

Below, we’ve included a selection of research projects from various management-related degree programs (e.g., MBAs, DBAs, etc.) to help refine your thinking. These are actual dissertations and theses, written as part of Master’s and PhD-level programs, so they can provide some useful insight as to what a research topic looks like in practice.

  • Sustaining Microbreweries Beyond 5 Years (Yanez, 2022)
  • Perceived Stakeholder and Stockholder Views: A Comparison Among Accounting Students, Non-Accounting Business Students And Non-Business Students (Shajan, 2020)

  • Science Data Sharing: Applying a Disruptive Technology Platform Business Model (Edwards, 2022)
  • Impact of Hurricanes on Small Construction Business and Their Recovery (Sahu, 2022)

Looking at these titles, you can probably pick up that the research topics here are quite specific and narrowly-focused , compared to the generic ones presented earlier. This is an important thing to keep in mind as you develop your own research topic. That is to say, to create a top-notch research topic, you must be precise and target a specific context with specific variables of interest . In other words, you need to identify a clear, well-justified research gap.

PA Master thesis mentoring programme

Are you writing your master thesis this spring? Would you like competent feedback and mentoring from a team of skilled management consultants?

PA Consulting Group offers a mentoring programme for bright students who would like guidance from a team of consultants that have one or more professional capabilities and/or deep industry knowledge. You can apply as an individual or as a group. The only thing needed is to have an exciting idea for your master thesis and a wish for being challenged to create the best result.

The programme runs throughout the Spring semester with a couple of events to support your thesis process besides the meetings with your mentors. We will aim to provide a mentor team consisting of a junior and a senior consultant. This ensures the best split between deep knowledge/capabilities and relatively recent experience with writing a master thesis project.

The mentors’ role will not substitute your formal supervisor, instead they will provide you with insights from ‘real life’, guide you in managing your project process and help you apply theoretical frameworks in a pragmatic manner. In addition to mentoring, you will also be introduced to some of PA’s professional training materials and methodologies that can help improve your structure and presentation skills.

The number and frequency of meetings between mentors and mentees are decided individually to ensure the best fit with each thesis process.

Qualifications

What pa consulting offers to you.

  • Access to leading experts with deep industry insights and a large network of specialised consultants.
  • Mentoring and guidance in your specific topic as well as guidance in presentation techniques and project management.
  • An insight into how consultants work and how to apply tools and methods to real life cases.

What we expect from you

  • You are enrolled in a master’s programme and plan to write your thesis regarding a topic that addresses one or several of PA’s capabilities or the industries where we operate.
  • You are interested in a career as a consultant.
  • You meet agreed deadlines and have a proactive spirit.
  • You already have ideas for your thesis project to discuss with a mentor.
  • You want to participate in the planned activities (2-3 events) in relation to the programme.

Learn The Spanish Language Spanish immersion course

As an international business school, ESCP Madrid campus welcomes students from all over the world and invites them to get familiarized with our Spanish culture by learning Spanish before starting the MSc programme.

We believe that the more Spanish the students speak, the easier they will find it to integrate into Spanish society and the more they will get out of their stay in Madrid. So, unless the students are a native or advanced Spanish speaker, we strongly recommend that they take this opportunity to work on their Spanish before they start the Master programme.

Students do not need to speak Spanish to enrol in the MSc programme as all courses are offered in English. However, some knowledge of Spanish can be useful to enjoy the full ESCP learning experience, become professionally bicultural and optimize networking with Spanish and Latin America students and alumni. This is why ESCP Madrid campus offers a Spanish Immersion course which is included in the tuition fee .

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any limitations as to which countries students can come from or which universities they are working with.

We especially encourage students from outside of Europe to take part in the Celonis STaR Program. All our materials are available in English.

However, Celonis is legally unable to transact (directly or indirectly) with the following countries: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria. In addition, Celonis does not do business in Russia. If the institution you are studying/working at or with is located in/belongs to one of these countries, then you will need to wait until the situation changes to apply for Celonis STaR Program.

Can I schedule a personal meeting with the Research & Innovation Coordinator?

Due to capacity reasons, we do not schedule calls with students. For every question you have regarding your project with Celonis, please first read the FAQs and the information and instructions we have given you in our welcome package (you get this after signing up for our STaR program).

If you have questions that are not answered by the FAQs, please check our Celonis Community (you will get the information how to engage here in your welcome letter after signing up)

If you have still not received the information you are looking for, you can write an email to [email protected] and state as a Subject “STaR Program + (topic of your question)”.

  • Please tell us specifically what your question is and where you need support. Our team will then get back to you. Because we get many requests, following up on your request can take up some days.

Can you help me find an academic supervisor?

If you already know your topic but do not have an academic supervisor yet, we can check within our network whether we know a suitable researcher who can support you. We cannot promise you that we will find somebody, but in most cases this is feasible. It depends on your university whether external supervisors are accepted.

Please note that all communication and the checking of all regulations is in your responsibility. We can only support in making the first introduction.

Do I need to sign any documents to work with you on my project? What about Data Declarations and Non-Disclosure?

If you need to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) depends on your topic. If you only use our standard material and don’t need anything further you don’t need to sign any documents.

If you need access to internal information at Celonis and your thesis contains confidential information (technical data, customer data), you have to sign a Non-Disclosure-Agreement (NDA).

If your project will contain this internal information, your academic supervisor will have to sign an NDA as well, and the project must not be published.

Please also check the Thesis Guidelines in your Welcome Letter for specific information on Non-Disclosure Agreements and Data Security.

How can Celonis support my project?

Celonis can provide researchers and thesis students free access to the academic version of our software and help you analyze your own data. We can provide our expertise and help you get started by giving you access to our digital training platform. We will also connect you with fellow students and researchers through the Celonis community platform. This support is entirely provided online by signing up to our thesis program.

Please do not contact us directly, but first follow the steps of this program. In some cases, we can also provide further support such as contact to experts or interviews. In these cases, we perform a pre-selection of relevant topics through a pitch, for which you can access a template after registration.

How do I find a suitable topic?

You as a student are responsible for finding a topic you want to research on. As a company we have no resources to guide you in finding a research topic. Please frame your topic in agreement with your academic supervisor. If you are writing your thesis with a company, please also make sure that the research topic is in line with your company supervisor.

How closely are you working with external students on their projects?

External students (those not working at Celonis) need to be mainly supervised by their academic and/or company supervisors. We do not have the capacity to support every project extensively.

I am a working student at a company and I would like to use the Celonis Academic Intelligent Business Cloud for my project, which is at the same time a commercial project at the company I work for. Is this possible?

Yes, but only if you use the academic version of our software just for the scope of the project, and only you personally have access to the Celonis account. Any primarily commercial use of our academic version is prohibited, as stated in the terms of use.

Is it also possible to write a doctoral/PhD thesis with support by Celonis?

Yes! If you want to write your PhD Thesis using Celonis materials, please sign up for our STaR programme. You may book an appointment with our Research & Innovation Coordinator, who will be able to discuss the scope of our involvement. However, we do not give out any PhD scholarships or working positions only with the purpose of writing a PhD thesis.

Is there a possibility to work with Celonis as a working student while I write my thesis?

At the moment, we do not offer working student positions only for the purpose of writing a thesis. However, you can check our career page for open internship or working student positions and then contact us to find out if a combination with your thesis topic is possible.

What does the Celonis STaR Program cover and what not?

How I Got the Job: Consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton

Caroline Collins

Carrie Collins, MPP Class of 2024, shares how she leveraged the resources available to her at Harris to secure her job as Associate Management Consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton before graduation.

I've always been interested in public sector consulting, so it was frustrating when I wasn't able to attend a Consulting Day event hosted through the Career Development Office (CDO) . I reached out to Ethan Rucker , the Associate Director of CDO, and asked if I could get him my resume and cover letter to share with Booz Allen Hamilton, which I knew would be at the fair. Ethan said, “While I can't promise they'll review it, you can send it to me.”

So I reached out to Kamillia Forbes , former president of Harris Student Government , who works at Booz Allen. I said, “Kam, I'm applying to this job, and you already have it. What do I need to know to really make myself stand out?” So she and I had a quick call while I was working on the cover letter for Ethan.

I eventually was given a screening call, where the Booz Allen representative instructed me to apply for a general management senior consultant position. On the night of my dog's birthday party, Booz Allen said that they wanted to interview me.

To prepare for the interview, I really did my homework. Kam connected me to Dave Sulek, Senior Vice President at Booz Allen, and we spoke about what Booz Allen is, what they do, why he pushed for more MPP hires, and what he thinks it's done for Booz Allen. During our conversation, something he said really struck me: “Booz Allen isn't really a consulting firm—we are a technology firm that does consulting. And that doesn't always appeal to people who are coming from public policy.” But for me, it was a watershed moment.

Government historically moves a little slower than other sectors, so technology as a solution had never really seemed viable to me. But, if governments worked with third party consulting firms, it could work.

I can use technology solutions to make the government better. It was a big light bulb moment.

The process with Booz Allen unfolded fairly quickly: I had behavioral interviews that were followed a couple days later with an email about security clearance, and the next day I got an email that they wanted to have a call to discuss my full-time offer. We went through the salary negotiation process, and I will be starting in August as a General Management Consultant at the Associate Level—the highest level they've ever hired out of Harris. I'm most excited, however, because I was able to get my offer signed even before finals during my fall quarter, which was huge.

At Booz Allen, I will also be on the Civilian Services team, so my whole job is how to use technology to create better delivery of government services for civilians. My soon-to-be colleagues are using generative AI, machine learning, and data science to optimize the use of resources to make sure we are giving as much as possible where there is the greatest need.

Subsequently, I spoke to Harris alums who work at Booz Allen and asked: "What kind of moments could I draw on to keep me pushing forward through mission-driven projects?" And every single person said that not only were they wildly fulfilled by their job, but they also saw immediate results from many of the projects—and got to know the people those projects benefited. Knowing that so many people who had come from the same program as I did felt like they were working towards tangible goals was a huge relief. It was a no-brainer to accept my job at Booz Allen.

Supreme Court Puppet Master’s Consulting Firm Clients Exposed in Leak

The consulting firm led by Leonard Leo , the architect of the Supreme Court ’s conservative supermajority, has worked for billionaire Charles Koch’s political advocacy network and a dark-money group that is currently arguing a Supreme Court case designed to preempt a wealth tax, according to documents obtained by Rolling Stone . The firm even worked to promote a book by Donald Trump cronies Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.

Leo has played a central role in shifting the high court and its decisions far to the right. As former President Donald Trump’s judicial adviser, Leo helped select three of the Supreme Court’s six conservative justices. He also leads a dark-money network that boosted their confirmations and helps determine what cases the justices hear and shape their rulings.

Leo co-chairs the Federalist Society, the conservative lawyers network. He is also the chairman of CRC. Like many consulting firms, CRC does not publicly disclose its clients. However, several of the firm’s clients were named in resumes that applicants submitted to an online jobs bank hosted by the Conservative Partnership Institute, which accidentally left the files exposed online .

One CRC employee’s 2024 resume says his clients include the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a dark-money group arguing a case before the Supreme Court this term that is designed to slam the door shut on a federal wealth tax. Experts say the case could upend the nation’s tax code.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

According to the CRC employee’s 2024 resume, Leo’s firm has also worked for the Koch network’s political advocacy arm, Americans for Prosperity. AFP’s super PAC spent more than $40 million supporting former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s failed Republican primary campaign against Trump this election cycle. AFP’s charitable arm has supported a case at the Supreme Court this term pushing justices to block the government from influencing content moderation by social media platforms.

The CRC employee’s resume also notes the firm has worked with Lewandowski, the former Trump campaign manager. The employee writes that he “helped generate extensive, positive news coverage” for Trump: America First , a book that Lewandowski co-wrote with Bossie.

Trump’s lawyer again tries to break michael cohen — with little success, cardi b is done with all politicians: 'damn, y’all not caring about nobody'.

Leo has played a key role in the ethics scandals. Leo reportedly arranged Alito’s seat on a private jet flight — paid for by a billionaire hedge-fund chief — as part of an undisclosed luxury fishing trip in Alaska. He also allegedly steered secret consulting payments to Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife.

Senate Democrats subpoenaed Leo after he refused to detail the gifts and payments he has directed to Supreme Court justices and their spouses. The District of Columbia’s attorney general is also reportedly investigating whether Leo has misused nonprofit laws for personal enrichment.

Documents show CRC has worked with major corporate clients as well as ideologically conservative startups.

In 2020, E&E News named one of the firm’s corporate clients: Chevron. The outlet reported that CRC had sought to get journalists to write about how green groups had wrongfully “claimed solidarity” with black protesters while “backing radical policies like the Green New Deal which would bring harm to minority communities. The message’s tagline suggested it was sent by Chevron.

The CRC employee’s 2020 resume file lists another corporate client: pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly. Like its competitors, the drugmaker has faced scrutiny from Democratic lawmakers for jacking up the price of insulin products that diabetics need to live. While Lilly announced a price cut last year, The Los Angeles Times noted that the new price was “still higher by two-thirds than it should be,” and the company could actually end up collecting higher profits.

CRC has also worked with the right-wing social video platform Rumble, according to company filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Gianni Infantino hits back at criticism of FIFA over ‘overloaded’ football calendar

FIFA President Gianni Infantino makes a speech during the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok on May 17, 2024. FIFA and the top domestic leagues are on a collision course after the global governing body’s president Gianni Infantino hit back at claims that FIFA is to blame for saturating the calendar with new events.

At a European Leagues meeting in London last month, Premier League boss Richard Masters rebuked FIFA for not consulting national leagues before expanding the annual, seven-team Club World Cup to a 32-team competition that will be played every four years, with the first edition scheduled to run from June 15 to July 13 in the United States next summer.

Masters said the football calendar had reached a “tipping point” in terms of fixture congestion, with players telling their clubs they felt “overloaded”.

A week after those comments, the World Leagues Association (WLA), which Masters chairs, teamed up with players’ union FIFPro to demand FIFA moves the Club World Cup two weeks forward , reopens talks on player-release windows for international matches and scraps the old Club World Cup, which has been rebranded the Intercontinental Cup and will still be played every year.

Those demands came in an angry email to Infantino and FIFA’s general secretary Mattias Grafstrom which prompted an equally spiky response from Grafstrom a week later.

The email from the players and leagues accused FIFA of making unilateral decisions on the calendar that “benefit its own competitions and commercial interests” to the detriment of national competitions.

In his riposte, Grafstrom strongly rejected the claim that FIFA had failed to consult the relevant parties but invited FIFPro and WLA for talks on the calendar this summer.

That invitation, however, is unlikely to be enough to stop the players’ union and leagues from taking legal action — possibly in multiple national courts — against FIFA in the coming months. In fact, that looks almost certain after Infantino’s outburst.

master thesis consulting

Speaking at the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok on Friday, Infantino told delegates he wanted to respond to “critics” who have accused FIFA of “organising too many games”.

Having pointed out that most of the new events FIFA has created are in the women’s game, the Swiss-Italian said that even the after the new Club World Cup starts, FIFA will still only organise “around one percent of the games played by the top teams”.

FIFA said it is a similar story in terms of men’s international football, with FIFA responsible for less than two per cent of fixtures played by national sides, with the vast majority staged by the game’s six confederations.

“But with these one to two per cent of matches, FIFA finances football all over the world,” said Infantino. “Our revenues aren’t just going to a few rich clubs but they go all over the world. No other organisation does that.

“So, I hope these figures show that we should stop this futile debate that’s really pointless.”

If Infantino really thinks this intervention will end the debate, he is likely to be disappointed, as the WLA, which represents 44 top leagues, including the Bundesliga , LaLiga and Serie A , is in no mood to back down on what it views as an existential threat to domestic football leagues.

It believes that the top players are going to be forced to take mini-breaks during never-ending seasons, in order to avoid injury and maintain their form. This, the leagues say, will inevitably damage the product they sell to broadcasters, match-going fans and sponsors.

For the leagues, the timing of the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup is the straw that broke the camel’s back, as it means participating players will not be able to get the four-week, off-season break that medical experts and players’ unions want before they are expected back in for pre-season training.

The solution, they believe, is obvious: move the new tournament forward so it finishes by the end of June. FIFA, however, has not wanted to give up the international window that sits at the start of June, which many nations use to schedule friendlies.

FIFPro, which is upset with FIFA for not agreeing to mandatory rest periods, and the WLA believe the recent European Court of Justice ruling on how FIFA and UEFA responded to the European Super League in 2021 has made it clear that governing bodies cannot just impose their will on others without taking steps to make sure their decisions are fair, transparent and proportionate.

The WLA, in fact, has considered taking legal action against FIFA as a unified body but some of its members, including Mexico ’s Liga MX, America’s MLS and the Saudi Pro League, voted against the idea. The majority of its members do want to take action, though, so a more individual approach is expected.

FIFA, on the other hand, will point out that the game benefits financially from having a coordinated calendar and the money it raises from its tournaments are ploughed back into development programmes around the globe.
