10 Most Important Questions From Class 6 Maths Chapters

Below are 10 important questions from Class 6 Maths chapters that are important for preparing well and understanding concepts easily.

1. What are the different types of angles? Describe each type.

Ans:

Acute Angle: Less than 90 degrees.

Right Angle: Exactly 90 degrees.

Obtuse Angle: Greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees.

Straight Angle: Exactly 180 degrees.

Reflex Angle: Greater than 180 degrees but less than 360 degrees.

2. How do you find the perimeter of a rectangle? Give an example.

Ans: The perimeter (P) of a rectangle is calculated using the formula: P = 2(length + width).

Example: For a rectangle with length 5 cm and width 3 cm, P = 2(5 + 3) = 2 × 8 = 16 cm.

3. Explain the concept of a fraction. How do you add two fractions with the same denominator?

A fraction represents a part of a whole, expressed as $\dfrac{a}{b}$, where 'a' is the numerator and 'b' is the denominator.

To add two fractions with the same denominator, add the numerators and keep the denominator the same.

Example: $\dfrac{2}{5} + \dfrac{3}{5} = \dfrac{(2 + 3)}{5} = \dfrac{5}{5} = 1$.

4. What is the difference between a prime number and a composite number? Provide examples.

A prime number has exactly two distinct positive divisors: 1 and itself (e.g., 2, 3, 5).

A composite number has more than two positive divisors (e.g., 4, 6, 8).

5. How do you convert a fraction into a decimal? Show with an example.

Ans: To convert a fraction to a decimal, divide the numerator by the denominator.

Example: $\dfrac{3}{4}$ = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75.

6. What is the area of a square? How do you calculate it? Provide a numerical example.

Ans: The area (A) of a square is calculated using the formula: A = side × side (or A = side²).

Example: If the side of the square is 4 cm, A = 4 × 4 = 16 cm².

7. Explain the order of operations (BODMAS). Why is it important?

BODMAS stands for Brackets, Orders (i.e., powers and roots), Division and Multiplication (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right).

It is important because it ensures that mathematical expressions are solved in a consistent and correct manner.

8. What is a ratio? How do you simplify a ratio? Give an example.

A ratio compares two quantities, expressed as a:b.

To simplify a ratio, divide both terms by their greatest common divisor (GCD).

Example: The ratio 8:12 can be simplified to 2:3 (by dividing both by 4).

9. Describe the properties of even and odd numbers. How can you identify them?

Even numbers: Divisible by 2 (e.g., 0, 2, 4).

Odd numbers: Not divisible by 2 (e.g., 1, 3, 5).

To identify: An even number ends with 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, while an odd number ends with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9.

10. How do you represent data using a bar graph? Explain the steps involved.

Collect Data: Gather the data you want to represent.

Choose Scale: Decide on a scale for the graph.

Draw Axes: Draw horizontal and vertical axes.

Label Axes: Label each axis according to the data.

Draw Bars: For each category, draw a bar whose height corresponds to the data value.
