Udit finished his SSC from Jageshwar High School, Kunauli, Supaul, Bihar and obtained his intermediate degree from Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal. He moved to Mumbai on a musical scholarship for Nepalese through Indian Embassy in Nepal to study classical music at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. There, he was mentored by ‘Pandit Dinkar Kaikini.’

He has several solo albums like Bhajan Sangam, Bhajan Vatika, I Love You, Dil Deewana, Yeh Dosti, Love is Life, Jaanam, Jhumka de Jhumka, Sona No Ghadulo, Dhuli Ganga, and Ma Tarini.
Controversy
Udit Narayan was already married to Ranjana Narayan Jha when he got married to his second wife Deepa in 1985. Years later, Ranjana filed a case against the singer asking him to accord her the status of his wife. Later, an agreement was signed between Ranjana and Udit accepting each other as “husband and wife.” The agreement stated that it would give equal rights ‘of a wife’ to Ranjana and would not affect the status of his other wife Deepa and their son.

Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan was born Udit Narayan Jha on December 1, 1955 in Baisi, Bihar, India. He began performing as a folk artist in the 1970s, and began his successful run in Bollywood with the 1980 Hindi language movie Unees-Bees . He continued to work steadily, all of which led to the soundtrack for the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak , a project that garnered him his first Filmfare Award. He became a mainstay in for the next two decades winning numerous musical awards for his work in such projects as 1996’s Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge , 1997’s Raja Hindustani , 2000’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam , 2001’s Lagaan , 2002’s Zindagi Khoobsoorat Hai , and 2004’s Swades . He won a 2005 National Film Award for his music production work on Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar . During this time he was given national honors and by the early 2010s he was capturing Lifietime Achievement awards from various institutions. He was still scoring chart success forty years after his movie debut with the 2021 single “Kisi Din Banoongi Main Raja” .

Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan on Monday got nostalgic about his journey in the movies as he completed 41 years in the film industry. Udit Narayan, one of the biggest singing stars in the ’90s, took to Instagram to celebrate the special day and thanked his listeners for fulfilling his dream of becoming a playback singer.
“41 years ago, my first ever playback venture in the Indian Film & Music industry for the film ‘Unees Bees’ released, composed by Rajesh Roshan ji. I was fortunate to sing my debut song with my idol Shri Mohammad Rafi saab,” he wrote.

“Thanks to everyone who gave me the opportunity to work with them, the young boy from Mithilanchal fulfilled his ambition of becoming a playback singer. Thank you fans & well wishers for recognising 5th July as Udit Narayan day,” the singer wrote, captioning a black-and-white image of himself in a studio from the early days of his career.
While Udit Narayan began his career in 1980, it was only eight years later that fame embraced him as he sang for the Aamir Khan -starrer musical romance Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. From “Papa Kehte Hain”, “Akele Hain” to “Ae Mere Humsafar”, Narayan belted one hit after the other in the album, composed by Anand-Milind.

Udit Narayan has been married twice, first to Ranjana Narayan Jha and then to Deepa Narayan Jha. Udit and Deepa were married in 1985. With Deepa Narayan, who is a Nepali singer and also a producer of Nepali films. they has one son, Aditya Narayan, who is also a playback singer. In 2006, Ranjana Narayan claimed to be Udit Narayan’s first wife, but Udit consistently denied it. Later, he accepted her as his wife and promised to provide funds, etc. for her maintenance.

Udit Narayan Biography
Udit Narayan Jha was born to a farmer in Nepal on December 01, 1955. He did his schooling from Shree Public Bindeshawari Secondary School, Rajbiraj, Nepal.
He finished his SSC from Jageshwar High School, Kunauli, Supaul, Bihar and obtained his intermediate Degree from Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Campus, Kathmandu, Nepal and later moved to Mumbai.
On a musical scholarship for Nepalese through Indian Embassy in Nepal to study classical Music at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan where he was mentored by “Pandit Dinkar Kaikini’” Who is known as the most prominent and successful Bollywood playback singer of all time.
His voice was just another level of melodious, he had taken a storm in 1980s and 1990s with his beautiful ‘voice, to die for ’ voice. He got to sing with legends Mohammed Rafi in his Bollywood Playback debut in movie Unees-Bees in 1980 and also with Kishore Kumar in the 1980s.
He finally made his mark in 1988 movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, his song “Papa Kehte Hain” was his notable performance which earned him his first Filmfare Award in the 1980s and he established himself in Bollywood Playback Singing.
He is the only male singer in the history of the Filmfare Awards to have won in over three decades.
Udit Narayan’s father was a Farmer while his mother was a Folk Dancer. He got married to Deepa Narayan Jha and have a son Aditya Narayan Jha who is a Playback singer in Bollywood.
In the year 1980, He got his break to sing in a Hindi film when music director Rajesh Roshan offered him to sing in the movie “Unees Bees ”.
It was big thing for Udit Narayan, as he got an opportunity to sing with his mentor, the great Mohammed Rafi. He was noticed but his real big break came in the year 1988. He sang a very famous song “ Papa Kehte Hain ” from the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
Which went on to become that year’s biggest hit. This song gave him instant stardom and he went on to bag his first Filmfare award . This movie was also the launch pad of actors Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla and female playback singer Alka Yagnik.
After the huge success of this movie, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik sang for movies like Dil and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, which went on to become huge hits. Udit Narayan also tried his hand at acting and did some Nepali movies like Kusume Rumal and Pirati, which were not much successful.
But he sang in some of the most famous Nepali movies and became a famous singer in Nepal.
Though Udit Narayan was gaining much popularity, he got overshadowed by Kumar Sanu, who another famous Indian playback singer. For five years, though he was nominated in the Best Male Playback singer category,
It was Kumar Sanu who finally won. In the year 1995, his career had a turning point when he sang the hit song “ Mehendi Laga Ke Rakhna” for the movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaaenge.
The song went on to become a huge hit and won accolades from one and all. He won the Filmfare award for the Best Male Playback singer that year. He won his third Filmfare award the next year itself for the song “Pardesi ” from the movie Raja Hindustani.
Udit Narayan is one of the most acclaimed singers of the present generation and has been praised by senior and established singers and composers for his original style and voice quality.
He is the onscreen voice of the three major superstars of Indian cinema namely Shah Rukh Khan , Aamir Khan and Salman Khan . Nepali Cinema:
Narayan’s friend Jiyand Nawab Deedag suggested he change his work from old to modern in order to be selected as a playback singer, but this didn’t work and, considering old films in 1973, Narayan sang a song for a Nepali film called Sindoor.
This was a comedy song for the famous Nepali comedians GopalRaj Mainali (Chankhe) and Basundhara Bhushal (Nakkali) . Narayan sang this song with Sushma Shrestha, now known as Poornima in Hindi films.
Narayan has also acted in two Nepali films – Kusume Rumal and Pirati in 1985. In 2004, he released his first non-movie Nepalese album, Upahaar . in which he sang duets with his wife Deepa Jha. Narayan has many solo albums as well, such as.

In 2015 Udit Narayan was involved in a mega series campaign Melancholy, where 421 Nepali artists had sung a 33 minutes 49-second long environmental song, in which 365 artists set a Guinness World Record on 19 May 2016 at Radio Nepal Studio , Singhadurbar , Kathamandu . It is written, composed and directed by environmentalist Nipesh.

His journey into the world of music began at a young age of 10 when he started singing for Radio Nepal, performing Maithli and Nepali folk songs. He dedicated almost eight years of his early career to Kathmandu Radio Nepal Station. His talent was recognized by the Indian Embassy, which offered him a music scholarship to study classical music at the renowned Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in Mumbai.
Without hesitation, Udit Narayan moved to Mumbai in 1978 to pursue his musical education. His big break came in 1980 when the noted music director Rajesh Roshan invited him to sing a song in the Hindi movie "Unees Bees." This opportunity allowed him to sing alongside his inspiration, the legendary Mohammed Rafi.
However, his career soared to great heights in 1988 with the release of the superhit Bollywood movie "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak." His rendition of "Papa Kehte Hain" in this film earned him his first Filmfare Award and marked the beginning of his successful journey as a playback singer in the Indian film industry. This film also catapulted actors Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, as well as playback singer Alka Yagnik, to stardom.
In the years that followed, Udit Narayan continued to lend his enchanting voice to numerous hit songs in both Hindi and Nepali cinema. His association with Aamir Khan, in particular, resulted in several chart-topping tracks in movies like "Dil," "Jo Jeeta Wohi Shikander," and more.
During the mid-1990s, he faced tough competition from Kumar Sanu, another immensely popular Indian playback singer. However, Udit Narayan made a remarkable comeback with the iconic song "Mehndi Lagake Rakhna" in the movie "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," which won him his second Filmfare Award.
He continued to dominate the Bollywood playback singing scene for the next decade, collaborating with renowned music directors and film directors, including his notable partnership with Shahrukh Khan in many superhit movies.
