The Range of ABM Thesis Topics

Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) encompasses a broad spectrum of topics that are crucial to the economic and operational fabric of organizations worldwide. Within academic circles, selecting a potent ABM thesis topic is not just a requirement for completion of one’s studies; it is an opportunity to contribute to the body of knowledge in a meaningful way. Thesis topics in this field can cover a range of issues from financial reporting to strategic management, each with the potential to significantly impact the current business practices and theories. A well-chosen thesis topic in ABM allows students to delve deeply into real-world problems, providing insights and solutions that are both innovative and practical. For students embarking on their academic journeys, understanding the relevance and application of their research within the broader context of ABM is key to developing work that is not only academically rigorous but also of tangible benefit to businesses and management practices globally.

Current Issues in ABM

In today’s dynamic economic environment, businesses face numerous challenges that affect their operational and strategic decisions. Economic fluctuations such as inflation, interest rate changes, and currency volatility significantly influence business planning and financial forecasting. These economic factors create a fertile ground for ABM research, where students can explore how businesses can adapt their financial management practices to remain resilient. Studies might focus on sectors that are particularly vulnerable to economic downturns or on strategies that firms use to hedge against economic uncertainty.

As digital technologies continue to evolve, traditional business models across various industries are being disrupted. This disruption is particularly evident in sectors like retail, banking, and media, where digital platforms, fintech innovations, and online services are replacing traditional operations. ABM thesis topics can delve into analyzing the long-term impacts of this technological shift, exploring how businesses can integrate new technologies with existing processes and how these changes affect overall industry standards. Research might also consider the role of digital literacy in management and operational efficiency.

The recent global events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, have exposed significant vulnerabilities in international supply chains. Issues such as dependency on single-source suppliers or the lack of supply chain agility have prompted businesses to rethink their approaches to global sourcing and logistics management. ABM research in this area could investigate strategies for building more resilient supply chains, examine the benefits of diversification, and propose frameworks for risk assessment and response. These topics are crucial for understanding how businesses can avoid potential disruptions and maintain steady operations in the face of global challenges.

Recent Trends in ABM

Digital transformation continues to be a pivotal trend in ABM, driving significant changes in how companies operate and deliver value to customers. The integration of digital technologies, such as cloud computing, AI, and IoT, into business processes is not just enhancing operational efficiency but is also creating new opportunities for customer engagement and service delivery. ABM thesis topics in this area might explore the effectiveness of digital tools in streamlining operations, the challenges companies face during digital integration, and the impact of these technologies on employee roles and skills. Furthermore, examining the digital maturity of different sectors can provide insights into the varying adoption rates and the factors influencing digital success.

As global awareness of environmental issues grows, businesses are increasingly held accountable for their social and environmental impacts. This shift has led to the integration of sustainability practices into core business strategies. ABM research could focus on how companies are implementing sustainable practices, measuring the impact of these initiatives on financial performance, and exploring consumer responses to CSR efforts. Another interesting angle might be the examination of sustainability reporting standards and their effectiveness in encouraging transparent practices, providing a critical look at how genuinely committed companies are to their professed sustainability goals.

In the age of big data, businesses are leveraging consumer information to tailor products, services, and marketing efforts to individual needs and preferences. This trend of personalization is reshaping marketing strategies and customer relationship management. ABM thesis topics could investigate the balance between effective personalization and privacy concerns, the technologies enabling personalized experiences, and the implications of personalization on consumer behavior. Additionally, studies could look into the ethical considerations of data usage in marketing and how regulations like GDPR influence business practices in terms of data collection and consumer rights.

Future Directions in ABM

Looking ahead, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in business operations and decision-making is poised to expand dramatically. AI’s potential to transform decision-making processes by providing deeper insights and predictive analytics offers profound implications for businesses in all sectors. Future ABM research could explore how AI can enhance strategic decisions, optimize operational efficiency, and personalize customer interactions more profoundly. Thesis topics might also consider the ethical dimensions of AI deployment in business, such as bias in AI algorithms and the impact of automation on employment.

As global interconnectivity increases, businesses must adapt their strategies to operate on a worldwide scale effectively. This involves not only managing cross-border logistics and multinational operations but also navigating diverse regulatory environments and cultural landscapes. Future ABM research could focus on developing new frameworks for global business management that accommodate these complexities. Topics might include the effectiveness of various international market entry strategies, the role of digital platforms in global commerce, and strategies for managing international teams and partnerships.

Sustainability is expected to move from being a peripheral concern to a core function within business models. As public and regulatory pressures mount, businesses will likely incorporate sustainability not just for compliance but as a fundamental driver of innovation and competitive advantage. ABM thesis topics in this area might investigate how businesses can integrate sustainable practices across their entire operation, from supply chain management to end-product delivery. Research could also explore how sustainability initiatives influence consumer purchasing decisions and how companies can effectively communicate their sustainability achievements to stakeholders.

These future directions in ABM highlight the evolving nature of business challenges and opportunities, offering a rich array of topics for academic exploration and practical application. Each of these areas not only holds potential for substantial business impact but also for significant contributions to the broader field of business management and research.

The dynamic field of Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) continually adapts to the shifting landscapes of technology, global economics, and societal expectations. As this article has demonstrated, the range of potential thesis topics within ABM is both broad and deeply interconnected with current issues, recent trends, and future directions. Students choosing to delve into these areas have the opportunity to make meaningful academic contributions that could resonate well beyond the academic community and into the practical realms of business operations and strategy. By engaging with topics such as digital transformation, sustainability, and the integration of artificial intelligence, students can not only enhance their own knowledge and skills but also contribute to the evolution of business practices globally. The significance of ABM as an academic discipline lies in its direct impact on the real world, making the pursuit of these thesis topics not only a scholarly endeavor but also a potential catalyst for innovation and change in the business world.

Human resource management is one of the most interesting spheres of business. After all, it’s all about people!

There are three major areas of a human resource manager’s responsibilities. They are: staffing, allocating compensation and benefits for employees, and administrating work.

There’s so much you can do as an HR specialist. It’s as people-oriented as a profession can get. It’s always a continuous process, too. You’ll never get bored!

There are a number of questions an HR specialist needs to know the answer to. How to select the best recruits? How to encourage team spirit and teamwork among the employees? How to motivate people? How to appraise and how to punish? All of those questions and more are raised in our selection of human resources research topics!

  • Training of employees as a performance enhancer. How does training of employees correspond with their performance? Produce real-life data. Use a questionnaire to identify and determine the workforce needs in an organization. Analyze the data by calculating a simple percentage analysis. How much did employee training influence their performance? Was it cost-effective?
  • Performance evaluation and its impact on productivity. How does performance evaluation impact employee productivity? What is its purpose? What is the difference between formal and informal evaluations? How should a performance evaluation be carried out? Describe each of the steps. What is the influence of a poor evaluation on an employee’s morale and their absenteeism rate? Produce real-life data.
  • Motivation and its impact on morale. What motivation theories are there? Which are the most popular to utilize in organizations today? What does the process of staff motivation look like? Does it influence employee performance? Produce real-life data. Analyze the data by calculating a simple percentage analysis.
  • Performance appraisal and its impact on productivity. What is performance appraisal, and how is it different from performance evaluation / employee motivation? Why is it considered to be crucial for the growth and survival of an organization? What is the role of performance appraisal as a strategic factor? Describe what performance appraisal techniques are used in an organization. How does it impact employee productivity? Produce real-life data.
  • Human resource and its relevance in modern business. Why are the effective acquisition, utilization, and maintenance of human resources considered to be central to the growth of an organization? How can executive initiative utilize human resources profitably for an organization? What are the techniques of sustaining and developing human resources in an organization? How to achieve maximum cooperation between staff and management?

ABM student says upper level classes prepared her for the real world

Amy Deepee sits atop one of the bronze wolves at NC State University.

In just one semester, Amy Deepee has completed her master of science in engineering.

Deepee is part of the accelerated bachelor’s-master’s (ABM) program, which allows students to complete both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees within five years. Electrical engineering, Deepee’s specialty, is one of several programs in the College of Engineering with an ABM program.

She completed her bachelor’s in electrical engineering back in December.

“I had no plans to, and then I went into an advising appointment during my junior year and my advisor said I should consider the ABM program,” she said. “I didn’t really know it existed.”

Deepee met the GPA requirement, and her professors knew she had the work ethic to complete the program.

Amy Deepee, seated, reads a copy of the Technician, NC State's student newspaper.

“As time went on, I was kind of burnt out and I wasn’t really interested, but then there was this summer class that one of my friends told me about, this Python class,” she said. “I took it and it was really impactful.”

The course was offered as an undergraduate class, which Deepee planned to take, but her friends changed her mind.

“Everyone was like, ‘Hey, look, it’s gonna be a little bit harder, but why not just take the grad version and just get credit for it?’” she said. “I ended up taking it and it was probably one of the coolest classes I’ve taken to this day. That convinced me to do ABM.”

The Python course was the first of many graduate level courses Deepee took in her time in her bachelor’s program. She found the research components of the upper level courses particularly compelling.

Not only was she taking graduate-level courses in undergrad, but Deepee also did undergraduate research, participated in the electrical and computer engineering honor society and was a member of the ultimate frisbee club.

“Club level ultimate frisbee is obviously commitment, but it was something that was a break from everything else,” she said. “It was me running around, getting to play a sport. I’m not a big gym rat, but I do like the gym, and that’s something that’s always been my one to two hours of not schoolwork. I think the gym and sports have kept me sane.”

Deepee will be working full time at Lenovo starting this summer. She will be moving to nearby Morrisville, North Carolina.

“I should say, no more school for me for a while,” she said with a laugh.

Amyy Deepee, right, smiles for a photo with three friends during an NC State football game.

Deepee said her experience at NC State really helped prepare her for job opportunities and her future in engineering.

“NC State advertises its undergrad research pretty hard,” she said. “I had to do research if I did engineering, and I think having the opportunity to do undergrad research was huge. I was working with Ph.D. [students] on their projects when I was a sophomore and junior. Getting to be involved in undergrad research set me up to get internships and get full-time jobs and gave me a lot of specialized knowledge.”

Of all her courses from the last five years, Deepee says her Python course especially prepared her for upcoming work with Lenovo.

“I’ll walk into an interview or talk to anyone and they’re like, ‘How did you get to work on that? How does that even work? That’s technology that I haven’t even worked on,’” she said. “So, full circle. The project-based classes really did it for me.”

Mom delivers baby in car hours before defending her Rutgers doctoral thesis

Giving birth and defending a doctoral dissertation could easily be considered among the most stressful items on a bucket list. For Tamiah Brevard-Rodriguez, it was all in a day’s work. One day’s work.

She even grabbed a shower in between.

On March 24, Brevard-Rodriguez, director of Aresty Research Center at Rutgers University, was finishing up preparations for her doctoral defense the next day. Eight months pregnant with her second child, she didn’t feel terrific, but she persisted.

She was trying to hone down to 20 minutes her remarks on “The Beauty Performances of Black College Women: A Narrative Inquiry Study Exploring the Realities of Race, Respectability, and Beauty Standards on a Historically White Campus.” The Zoom link had gone out to family, friends, and colleagues for the defense, scheduled for 1 p.m. the next day.

“Operation Dissertation before Baby,” as she called it, was a go.

But at 2:15 a.m. on March 25 her water broke, a month and a day early.

As the contractions came closer and closer, her wife drove her down the Garden State Parkway, trying to get to Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center in Montclair before Baby Enzo showed up.

But the baby was faster than a speeding Maserati and arrived in the front seat at 5:55 a.m., after just three pushes. He weighed in at 5-pounds 12-ounces, 19 inches long, and in perfect health for a baby four weeks early.

“I did have to detail her car afterward,” the new mom said of her wife.

Brevard-Rodriguez was feeling so good after the birth that she decided against asking to reschedule her thesis defense.

“I had more than enough time to regroup, shower, eat and proceed with the dissertation,” she said. She had a quick nap, too. The doctors and nurses supported her decision and made sure she had access to reliable wifi at the hospital.

She gave her defense with a Rutgers background screen. When she learned she had passed, she dropped the fake background, and people could see Brevard-Rodriguez in her maternity bed, and Enzo in her wife’s arms.

“I said, ‘You guys missed the big news,’ and they just fell out,” said Brevard-Rodriguez, who waited for the reveal because she didn’t want extra sympathy from her dissertation committee.

Melina Mangin, chair of the Educational Theory, Policy & Administration Department at the Graduate School of Education, was astounded.

“Tamiah had delivered a flawless defense with zero indication that she had just given birth,” she said. “She really took the idea of productivity to the next level!”

Finishing her doctorate in education and having her last child were fitting 40th birthday presents to herself, Brevard-Rodriguez said. She turned 40 in November and returns to work in late August.

RIT graduate pursues Ph.D. across time zones

Nastaran Nagshineh is shown with other faculty in a small room where she defended her thesis.

Nastaran Nagshineh, center, defended her Ph.D. thesis at RIT in April. Faculty from RIT’s Rochester and Dubai campuses served on her thesis committee and include, from left to right, Kathleen Lamkin-Kennard, Steven Weinstein, Nathaniel Barlow, and David Kofke (a professor at the University at Buffalo). Mohamed Samaha participated remotely and appears on the video screen behind the group and alongside Nagshineh’s picture.

Nastaran Nagshineh is one of the first Ph.D. candidates to bridge RIT’s Rochester and Dubai campuses. Her accomplishment creates a path for future students at the university’s international campuses.

Nagshineh completed her Ph.D. in mathematical modeling while working full time as a mathematics lecturer at RIT Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, teaching as many as five classes a semester. She described her Ph.D. journey as “an exercise in perseverance” due to competing demands and long days. Rochester is eight hours behind Dubai, and the time difference meant many late-night classes and meetings.

“I saw this collaboration as an opportunity, rather than as a challenge, because my primary adviser, Dr. Steven Weinstein (RIT professor of chemical engineering), and my co-adviser, Dr. Mohamed Samaha (RIT Dubai associate professor of mechanical engineering), both have the same area of research interest,” she said. “They both worked toward my success.”

Nagshineh is one of 67 RIT Ph.D. students who defended their thesis this academic year and who will earn their doctorate. RIT awarded 63 Ph.D. degrees in 2023.

In 2020-2021, RIT’s Graduate School met and surpassed the university’s goal of conferring 50 Ph.D. degrees during an academic year. That number will continue to grow as students cycle through the seven new Ph.D. programs that RIT has added since 2017, said Diane Slusarski , dean of RIT’s Graduate School.

Meeting these goals puts RIT on a path toward achieving an “R1,” or research-intensive designation, from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning. RIT is currently ranked as an R2 institution . Many factors go into changing a university’s status, including research investment and maintaining a three-year average of 70 Ph.D. degrees awarded per year, according to Slusarski.

“We have met the goals of the strategic plan, and now we look forward to contributing to the research innovation in the future,” Slusarski said. “We want to help the new programs thrive and win national research awards.”

RIT’s emphasis on high-level research is seen in Nagshineh’s Ph.D. work. She applies mathematical modeling to the field of fluid dynamics. Her research has been published in top-tier journals and has gained notice, said Weinstein, her thesis adviser.

Weinstein describes Nagshineh’s accomplishments as “a testament to a fantastic work ethic and commitment” and is inspirational to younger students at Rochester and Dubai.

“The collaboration between RIT Dubai/Rochester has continued,” he said. “Another paper was submitted a few weeks ago with Mohamed Samaha and Nate Barlow (RIT associate professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics) as co-authors, as well as Cade Reinberger, a younger Ph.D. student in my research group.”

Mathematical modeling is one of RIT’s newer Ph.D. degree programs, and Nagshineh is among its earliest graduates. The program has doubled in size since it began accepting students in 2017, Slusarski said. This past fall, the mathematical modeling program had 35 students, with two graduating this year.

Altogether, RIT has 13 Ph.D. degree programs currently enrolling 438 students, with computing and information sciences accounting for the largest with 117 students. RIT’s other Ph.D. programs include astrophysical sciences and technology , biomedical and chemical engineering , business administration , color science , electrical and computer engineering, imaging science , mechanical and industrial engineering , microsystems engineering , and sustainability .

New programs in cognitive science and physics will launch in the fall.

The growth in RIT graduate education—with more than 3,000 master’s and doctoral students—reflects a demographic change in the student population, Slusarski said. “We have a higher percentage of women in the graduate programs than we have for RIT undergraduate programs.”

RIT’s graduate programs enroll 42 percent women, according to Christie Leone , assistant dean for the Graduate School.

Nagshineh, who also holds an MS in electrical engineering from RIT Dubai, welcomes her role as a mentor to other women students on both campuses.

“As a young woman in an Arabic country, the power of women is often underestimated and undervalued, and I hope to serve as a role model to female students, especially those that question their path,” Nagshineh said.

She plans to continue in her career as a professor and a researcher. “I would like to pursue a research program where I can advise my own students and teach them more deeply.”

What I’ve Learned From My Students’ College Essays

The genre is often maligned for being formulaic and melodramatic, but it’s more important than you think.

An illustration of a high school student with blue hair, dreaming of what to write in their college essay.

By Nell Freudenberger

Most high school seniors approach the college essay with dread. Either their upbringing hasn’t supplied them with several hundred words of adversity, or worse, they’re afraid that packaging the genuine trauma they’ve experienced is the only way to secure their future. The college counselor at the Brooklyn high school where I’m a writing tutor advises against trauma porn. “Keep it brief , ” she says, “and show how you rose above it.”

I started volunteering in New York City schools in my 20s, before I had kids of my own. At the time, I liked hanging out with teenagers, whom I sometimes had more interesting conversations with than I did my peers. Often I worked with students who spoke English as a second language or who used slang in their writing, and at first I was hung up on grammar. Should I correct any deviation from “standard English” to appeal to some Wizard of Oz behind the curtains of a college admissions office? Or should I encourage students to write the way they speak, in pursuit of an authentic voice, that most elusive of literary qualities?

In fact, I was missing the point. One of many lessons the students have taught me is to let the story dictate the voice of the essay. A few years ago, I worked with a boy who claimed to have nothing to write about. His life had been ordinary, he said; nothing had happened to him. I asked if he wanted to try writing about a family member, his favorite school subject, a summer job? He glanced at his phone, his posture and expression suggesting that he’d rather be anywhere but in front of a computer with me. “Hobbies?” I suggested, without much hope. He gave me a shy glance. “I like to box,” he said.

I’ve had this experience with reluctant writers again and again — when a topic clicks with a student, an essay can unfurl spontaneously. Of course the primary goal of a college essay is to help its author get an education that leads to a career. Changes in testing policies and financial aid have made applying to college more confusing than ever, but essays have remained basically the same. I would argue that they’re much more than an onerous task or rote exercise, and that unlike standardized tests they are infinitely variable and sometimes beautiful. College essays also provide an opportunity to learn precision, clarity and the process of working toward the truth through multiple revisions.

When a topic clicks with a student, an essay can unfurl spontaneously.

Even if writing doesn’t end up being fundamental to their future professions, students learn to choose language carefully and to be suspicious of the first words that come to mind. Especially now, as college students shoulder so much of the country’s ethical responsibility for war with their protest movement, essay writing teaches prospective students an increasingly urgent lesson: that choosing their own words over ready-made phrases is the only reliable way to ensure they’re thinking for themselves.

Teenagers are ideal writers for several reasons. They’re usually free of preconceptions about writing, and they tend not to use self-consciously ‘‘literary’’ language. They’re allergic to hypocrisy and are generally unfiltered: They overshare, ask personal questions and call you out for microaggressions as well as less egregious (but still mortifying) verbal errors, such as referring to weed as ‘‘pot.’’ Most important, they have yet to put down their best stories in a finished form.

I can imagine an essay taking a risk and distinguishing itself formally — a poem or a one-act play — but most kids use a more straightforward model: a hook followed by a narrative built around “small moments” that lead to a concluding lesson or aspiration for the future. I never get tired of working with students on these essays because each one is different, and the short, rigid form sometimes makes an emotional story even more powerful. Before I read Javier Zamora’s wrenching “Solito,” I worked with a student who had been transported by a coyote into the U.S. and was reunited with his mother in the parking lot of a big-box store. I don’t remember whether this essay focused on specific skills or coping mechanisms that he gained from his ordeal. I remember only the bliss of the parent-and-child reunion in that uninspiring setting. If I were making a case to an admissions officer, I would suggest that simply being able to convey that experience demonstrates the kind of resilience that any college should admire.

The essays that have stayed with me over the years don’t follow a pattern. There are some narratives on very predictable topics — living up to the expectations of immigrant parents, or suffering from depression in 2020 — that are moving because of the attention with which the student describes the experience. One girl determined to become an engineer while watching her father build furniture from scraps after work; a boy, grieving for his mother during lockdown, began taking pictures of the sky.

If, as Lorrie Moore said, “a short story is a love affair; a novel is a marriage,” what is a college essay? Every once in a while I sit down next to a student and start reading, and I have to suppress my excitement, because there on the Google Doc in front of me is a real writer’s voice. One of the first students I ever worked with wrote about falling in love with another girl in dance class, the absolute magic of watching her move and the terror in the conflict between her feelings and the instruction of her religious middle school. She made me think that college essays are less like love than limerence: one-sided, obsessive, idiosyncratic but profound, the first draft of the most personal story their writers will ever tell.

Absenteeism is one of the most common problems committed by the students, many reasons arise from different sources why absenteeism happens. Students, as expected to do excellence in their academics, are also expected to have a good standing in their attendance in school. But somehow there still other students who commit many absentees, that’s why this study aims to find the effects of absenteeism to the academic performance of Grade 12 Accountancy, Business and Management students to immediately address it effects and continuously leads them to academic success and excellence. A qualitative method was used in the study. Using descriptive research design it focused on the assessment of four academic variables identified as affected by students’ absenteeism such as Projects, Quizzes, Group Activities, and Quarterly Exams. Data were gathered by distributing questionnaires to the target respondents. The results of the study revealed that absenteeism negatively affects the academic performance of the Grade 12 ABM Students in terms of the (1) Projects –students’ absenteeism causes delayed submission of the project directly affects their grades (2) Quizzes –absenteeism affects the total scores of the students in quizzes, it resulted in low grades (3) Group Activities –absenteeism affects the opportunity of the students to take part in the group activities resulting in no record in students’ output. (4) Quarterly exams -absenteeism causes delayed in taking the quarterly exam on time, this directly affects the scores of the students in their quarterly exams. The results show the need for the students to avoid absenteeism for it directly affects their academic performance. Parents with the help of teachers and school administrators must check the number of absentees of the students to immediately call the attention of the involved students. Proper counseling, evaluation, and guidance must be given to the students for them to avoid absenteeism. Students are productive when they attend their class regularly, leading them to academic success and excellence.

As of 2012 there has been an alarming increase of 20% Filipino recidivists (Bureau of Corrections, 2012). It continues to increase up until the present time. Thus, this study examined how Individual Differences, Family, Peers, State Policies for Employment, and Spirituality foster successful reintegration of ex-offenders and ultimately lessen recidivism among them. Through delving into the personal lived experiences of the ex-offender during their re-entry, the researchers intend to know how these factors play out in their successful re-entry experience. Findings suggest that these factors heavily affect the reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals. However, a new factor, politics, emerged in our present study indicating that it also assists successful reintegration. The six factors are interdependent and found to have corresponding subthemes. In addition, the researchers have found out that the factors may overlap with one another and may or may not exist without the other. In general, findings provide several suggestions for better correctional facilities, better government policies, and alternative approaches for successful reintegration and lessening recidivism rates.

This qualitative study sought to describe the experiences of five male and five female individuals who have experienced bereavement before reaching the age of 18, experiencing the loss of a parent between the age of 4 to 17. The participants’ lived experiences and their worldviews were the principal factors explored. Additionally, factors such as their attributions and coping mechanisms were considered. The following dominant themes were identified: the need for an immediate maturity, impairment in tackling significant life events resulting from their parent’s absence, observed gender differences in coping, and their positive worldviews. Their shared positive appraisal constituted the suggested theory, referred to by the researchers in this study as Affirmative Response Action Theory. The theory proposed described how the participants in this study took positive action as a response to grief from the early loss of a parent, not only in affirming the consequences of the death itself, but also of the need for their immediate maturity and accepting a sense of responsibility for the loss, all of which were done in a resilient fashion.

Students’ preference to teachers’ teaching strategies is a study to learn the importance of teaching strategies towards the needs of the students. One of the areas that have been studied in the past to evaluate a number of these factors in relationship to teaching effectiveness is teaching styles. A teaching style, as defined in this study, includes a teacher's way of communicating with the students, the choices s/he makes to create a desired classroom climate, the level of directiveness taken, and the choices s/he makes in tools, methods, strategies, and evaluation techniques. In other words, teaching style refers to the beliefs of a teacher that translate into their classroom behavior and choices. Different teachers also have different teaching strategies, and that is the main reason why several students won’t participate during class’ recitation and activities. The study is important to help teachers to learn what students need to do in order to create relationship or connection towards each others’ learning benefits. This study will also show the benefit of teachers’ improvements needed to create the connection between students and teachers.

This research study aimed to investigate the functional analysis of verbs in children’s spoken Cebuano. Moreover, the study analyzed the functions of the language, classifications of verbs, and markers among the elicited word conversations. There were 8 student participants. The results revealed that the participants in general often use intransitive over transitive verbs. In general, the Cebuano children were found to use intransitive verbs for they are simpler to use in expressing their emotional and physical needs or experiences and it is easier for them communicate with. Thus, the children’s use of the language is mostly representational, and their usage of the verb constructions is for conveying meaning.

Trafficking in human beings is turning to be a “glocal” phenomenon - subject to increasing international attention in recent years and continuing to be a local development concern. Several domestic anti-trafficking initiatives both by the government and non-government organizations have been spawned in the Philippines. While there is a wealth of documented experience, research, and analysis on sex work and sex trafficking of women and children that cover a spectrum of trafficking issues: trends; causes; abusive practices; and policy and program interventions by multilateral institutions, states, and NGOs certain gaps remain. A rapid assessment on child trafficking in eight selected sites (Bask Pardo, Bulacao, Cansaga, Lamac, San Roque, Tangke, Labogon, and Umapad was conducted to gather baseline information on the incidence and prevalence of child trafficking in these area. The study mainly used the community organizing and participatory action research (COPAR) approach in the study. The narratives showed that it cannot be divorced from the specific characteristic of feminization that has been widely acknowledged globally with women and children not only trafficked for sexual exploitation, but also for other types of work. Actual reported cases of trafficking were not documented in the study. It relied mainly on the anecdotal reports of the research participants. The level of awareness on child trafficking varied across sites as gleaned from the information shared by the participants on the subject matter of child trafficking. In all the study areas, there were intermittent cases of domestic violence, incest, rape, drug addiction, pornography and other violent forms of child abuse. These put children in greater risk of trafficking as a result of their psychological and emotional trauma. Moreover, prostitution as a form of abuse is also a high-risk factor in child trafficking. There is no single reason why children are trafficked (UNICEF 2009) but rather a wide range of factors and layers of vulnerabilities related to children as individuals, their families, and the socio-economic context in which they live. These factors may be directly experienced by children who are abused or forced to drop out of school. There are also family-related factors such as family breakdown, domestic violence, substance abuse, and neglect. Socioeconomic factors in which a child is living tend to be indistinct and wide ranging, encompassing social norms and attitudes, market forces, economic opportunities or the lack thereof, labour and migration patterns, legal and policy frameworks, influence of peer pressure and the media, such as poverty and lack of education and employment opportunities. There were reported cases on demands for child labor and sex with children. The anecdotal reports used in this study reveal discernable patterns of child trafficking in the eight sites. These patterns can be categorized in relation to the purposes for which children are trafficked and the processes by which they are trafficked. The main purpose for which children are trafficked in the study areas is for sexual exploitation such as through child prostitution or the production of child pornography with sporadic reference to the trafficking of children for the purposes of exploitative labor such as domestic services. Subsequent efforts must be undertaken to gather disaggregated data using community-based mechanisms for data collection in order to generate standard indicators on child trafficking that can be used to establish a national profile.Tackling this difficult technical issue of quantitative data should be simultaneously done with developing evidence-based child protection systems since it offers a more clear-cut conceptual framework that ensures sustainable and better outcomes for children, so that they are protected against all forms of abuse, exploitation, neglect and violence. This calls for the development and strengthening of grassroots legal and policy frameworks and social behavior changes. Direct involvement to sensitize the residents of the barangayis needed to take collective action on the issue of child trafficking. Participation in formal structures and inclusion in formal procedures of planning, implementation, and evaluating community-wide activities relative to the issue is also necessary. Community organizations pave the way for functional community-based planning, implementing and evaluating of child protection programs where these strategies may be adapted such as education and training, networking, mobilization on child protection and development concerns, implementing of livelihood projects, and developing secondary leaders.
