Visio Shortcuts for Zooming and Panning using Your Mouse and Keyboard

Zoom and Move Pages Around Quickly in Microsoft Visio Drawings

You can zoom and pan (move the page) in your Microsoft Visio diagrams quickly using your mouse and keyboard in three ways:

• Ctrl + Shift + mouse click
• Ctrl + Shift + mouse drag
• Ctrl + roller mouse wheel

Zoom in and out using mouse buttons and the keyboard

To zoom in and out by left or right-clicking the mouse:

• Press Ctrl + Shift + left click on the drawing to zoom in.
• Press Ctrl + Shift + right click on the drawing to zoom out.

To zoom in on a specific region:

• Press Ctrl + Shift + left mouse button and drag around the area you wish to zoom.

Pan using mouse buttons

To pan (move the page):

• Press the right mouse button and drag until the page is at the desired location. Your cursor will change to a hand when you're panning.

Pan using the right mouse button and keyboard

To pan using the right mouse button and keyboard:

• Press Ctrl + Shift + right mouse button and drag on the drawing to pan at the current zoom level.

Use the mouse wheel

If you have a mouse that has a wheel (roller mouse), you can zoom and pan using the wheel.

Zoom in and out using the mouse wheel and keyboard

To zoom in and out using the mouse wheel and keyboard:

• Press Ctrl while rolling the mouse wheel forward to zoom in.
• Press Ctrl while rolling the mouse wheel backward to zoom out.

Pan up and down using the mouse wheel

To pan up and down (you don't need to press any other keys on your keyboard):

• Roll the mouse wheel forward to pan the page down.
• Roll the mouse wheel backward to pan the page up.

Pan left and right using the mouse wheel and keyboard

To pan left and right using the mouse wheel and keyboard:

• Press Shift while rolling the mouse wheel forward to pan to the right.
• Press Shift while rolling the mouse roll backward to pan to the left.

Microsoft Visio - Changing View Modes

Visio has a few options for changing how you view the drawing. The View tab lists all the possible view options that you can use on the canvas. We will look at some of the commands that are useful in changing view modes.

Slide Snippets

The Slide Snippets Pane is available only in the latest Office 365 version of Visio. Basically, slide snippets allow you to directly export a Visio diagram as a PowerPoint slide.

To take a slide snippet, click the Slide Snippets Pane in the View tab to open it. Then, select an area of the drawing that you want to export to a PowerPoint slide and click the Add button in the Slide Snippets Pane. Add a title in the Enter title here... field and click Export to export the captured drawing to a PowerPoint slide.

Presentation Mode

The Presentation Mode shows a full screen view of the drawing without any distractions. This mode can also be toggled by pressing F5 on the keyboard.

Ruler, Grid and Guides

You can toggle between showing the vertical and horizontal rulers, the grid, and the guides by toggling the corresponding checkboxes in the Show area of the View tab. The scaling of the rulers and grid can also be adjusted. The grid allows to easily snap objects so that they are placed correctly on the canvas.

The Zoom section comprises of commands that allow you to change the zoom levels of the canvas. You can also fit the contents to window or adjust the contents to fill the page width.

The Window section lists commands that allow to arrange multiple windows on your screen. You can directly open a new window or arrange windows side by side. You can also cascade windows for easy switching between them.

Visio – How to Zoom & Pan (Tips and Keyboard Shortcuts)

Here are different mouse techniques to make you a Visio ninja:

• Ctrl + Shift + Mouse-click or Mouse-drag
• Ctrl or Shift + Roller-mouse movements
• Ctrl + Shift Zoom & Pan

The following techniques help you zoom in and out and pan the drawing window.

Zoom In 2x: Ctrl + Shift + Left Mouse-click

Double your zoom:

• Hold down the  Ctrl  +  Shift  keys, then
• Click the  left  mouse button

Zoom Out 2x: Ctrl + Shift + Right Mouse-click

Zoom out to half the previous level:

• Hold down the  Ctrl  +  Shift  keys and
• Click the  right  mouse button

Zoom to Region: Ctrl + Shift + Left Mouse-drag

Specify exactly where you want to zoom.

• Hold  Ctrl  +  Shift  down together, and
• Click the  left  mouse button.
• Drag a net around the area that you want to zoom.

Wheel-mouse Zoom & Pan

Use the “roller mouse” wheel to zoom and pan as follows:

Pan Up & Down: Wheel forward/backward

• Roll the wheel forward to pan the page downwards
• Roll the wheel backward to pan the page upwards.

Pan Left & Right: Shift + Wheel forward/backward

Hold the Shift key while rolling to pan left and right.

• Hold  Shift  key down, then roll the wheel  forward  to pan to the  right .
• Hold  Shift  key down, then roll the wheel  backward  to pan to the  left .
• Hold the Ctrl key while rolling to zoom in and out.
• Hold the Ctrl key down, then roll forward to zoom in.
• Hold the Ctrl key down, then roll backward to zoom out.

Microsoft Visio Zooming

To position shapes or to carry out precise work, Microsoft Visio zooming provides the ability to magnify a portion of a drawing.  Learn how zoom works in this 4-minute video backed up by the written steps underneath.

Use the zoom slider, as shown in Figure 1, on the Right-hand side of the status bar to zoom in and out.

Alternatively, click on the View Tab and in the Zoom group choose Zoom and then what factor needed as shown in Figure 2.

Fitting the window to a page

Click on the Fit page to current window button, as shown in Figure 3, on the right-hand side of the status bar.

Alternatively use the following shortcut key:

[Ctrl]+[Shift]+W – to fit the window to a page

Pan and Zoom window

On the View tab in the Show group, click on Task Panes and choose the Pan & Zoom option, as shown in Figure 4.

The Pan & Zoom window will usually appear, as shown in Figure 5, in the bottom right-hand side of the drawing page.

Use the slider on the right-hand side of the window to zoom in/out or use the handles, as shown in Figure 6.

Using Powerpoint Presentation Mode with Zoom

If you are in the habit of accessing your notes from the   Powerpoint   presenter view, you may find it hard to do while Zooming   because you end up displaying your notes along with the slideshow. Here’s how to do that in Zoom.   Note that these instructions are for folks wih just one screen.

Zooming in Presenter View

To view in Presenter View while presenting in Zoom, you will need to:  

• Click on Presenter View in the menu ribbon at the top of the screen.  

The presentation will look like this:  

  The notes appear in a pane on the right. The text wraps automatically, and a vertical scroll bar appears if necessary. You can change the size of the text in the Notes pane by using the two buttons at the lower left corner of the Notes pane:  

You can adjust the size of the current slide, and notes and next slide panels, by using your mouse to grab and drag the vertical line that separates the two panels.  

Then, when you share screen in Zoom, go to the Advanced tab:  

Here you can choose to share a Portion of Screen. When you choose this option, you can draw a rectangle around the part of the screen you want to share. Switch back to PowerPoint. Position the rectangle over the presentation and drag the corners to resize to fit completely. It will look like this:  

The green box is what's being shared. You can see your notes, the next slide, and what you look like on Zoom if your webcam is on.

There is another way that I have found:

Hold down Ctrl + Shift and pan with the right mouse button.

Use the Pan & Zoom window.

• @zwcloud. A shape could cover the whole of the visible page area. Dragging is used to move shapes, so there would be no way to differentiate between panning and moving a shape. –  Paul Herber Jan 24, 2019 at 15:42

Instructions.

To display the Pan & Zoom pane:

• Click on the View Menu, then click on the Task Panes icon, then click on Pan & Zoom. The Pan & Zoom pane will then open on the right. This will allow you to get very precise with your drawing.
• 00:04 I want to show you something that's called the pan and zoom window,

• 00:11 And I want to start a new diagram, however, I want to use a template.
• 00:16 So I'll pick on more templates.

• 00:29 Now of course, based on that template, it brought in certain stencils, obviously
• 00:35 based in the electrical model, but I'm going to open up the pan and zoom window.

How to zoom in presentation mode?

Im working with PPT for mac 2016. When showing a presentation i cannot zoom into a content. I can highlight but not zoom.

Can anyone help me? Im using a Whillemina Mouse for mac.

Create a PowerPoint presentation from Visio

You can share your Visio diagrams in PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 by creating slide snippets of your diagrams and then exporting them to PowerPoint. It's never been easier to get your diagrams into PowerPoint.

The ability to create slide snippets and export them to PowerPoint is only available with Visio Plan 2 . If you're not sure what version of Visio you're using, click File > Account > About Visio . The top-left corner of the dialog box tells you which version of Visio_generic you have:

Note:  In order to use this feature, you must have a  Microsoft 365 subscription . If you are a Microsoft 365 subscriber, make sure you have the latest version of Office . If you are an IT professional managing the Microsoft 365 update process, check out the channel releases page to learn which updates are provided in each channel.

Create and export slide snippets to PowerPoint

With your Visio diagram open, click View > Slide Snippets Pane . The Slide Snippets pane appears on the right side of your design window.

Click Add in the Slide Snippets pane and a snipping frame appears over your diagram.

Move the snipping frame over the portion of the diagram you want to show on a slide.

If necessary, drag the corners of the snipping frame until you have the size you want.

Enter a title for your slide in the text box beneath the slide preview.

To add another slide snippet, click Add again and then position and size the new snipping frame over the intended area of your diagram. If you need to delete a slide, select it in the Slide Snippets pane and then press Delete.

Click Export in the Slide Snippets pane to export your prepared slide snippets to a new PowerPoint slide deck. You can also export the slide snippets by clicking File > Create PowerPoint Presentation > Create Presentation .

If you overlap the snipping frame between different slides and then export to PowerPoint, the images use the  morphing slide transition  in PowerPoint. If you don't have the latest subscription version of PowerPoint or overlap slide snippets, the slides use the normal default slide transition.
