Beginner’s Guide to Making Video with your Smartphone

By Joel Dignam

Introduction

Learn practical tips from Digital Storytellers on how to make a video with your smartphone including information about what you need, shooting tips and editing. These insights were gathered by Joel Dignam when he attended Digital Storytellers’ workshop at the FWD+Organise conference in December 2019.

I’ll confess, I’ve long dreamed of filming the next viral video. I imagine the thousands of shares, the glowing media coverage, and how I’ll then become an Instagram influencer and people will pay me to use their skincare products. Sadly, however, the latest video of my deadlifting has failed to achieve such status for me.

But that could all change soon, as I attended the FWD+Organise workshop on how to make video with your mobile phone . Run by Natasha Akib of Digital Storytellers , it was one of the best, and certainly the most practical session that I came across. The good news for you (and for me, as it makes writing this much simpler) is that it all boils down to some handy and straightforward tips and principles. (Thank you Natasha!)

What you need to start filming video with your mobile phone

There are five different things to think about.

Mobile phone

If you’ve got a smartphone, you’re probably already good to go. Most smartphones these days can film high-quality video.

This is the #1 most important thing, assuming you already have a smartphone. Using your phone microphone is bad. It’s in the wrong place, it’ll record badly, and your videos will be much worse for it. Natasha corroborated other recommendations I’ve come across in suggesting the Rode smartLav , instead.

Once you’ve got the smartLav (or equivalent), it’s strongly recommended to record video and audio with the same phone: avoid creating a separate audio file that you’ll then have to sync up. For interviews, it turns out this is super easy. You can also get an extension cable for the smartLav if you need to film from a longer distance.

This is a fancy industry term for a thingy you use to hold your phone. Start throwing it around in conversations with video contractors and they’ll knock 50% off their quote once they realise how savvy you are. A grip isn’t essential, but it can help to reduce shakiness and potentially free up your hands. Some types of grips you can consider are:

  • A selfie stick with a tripod ,
  • A gorilla grip can give you more flexibility and can be easier to mount on things, &/or
  • A gimbal (aka vimbal/ vimble ) – this is the fancy thing that you hold and it’s like a gyroscope or something that keeps the phone steady even as you move around. Great for tracking shots. Apparently these are much cheaper than they used to be (nowadays about $150).

You don’t need fancy lighting. Ideally you can use daylight or indoor lighting if you need. The important thing is that the light is falling towards the subject. Avoid a situation where the subject is between the camera and a light source. If need be, you can also use the flashlight of a second smartphone to provide some soft lighting.

Storage and batteries

Think ahead – make sure you won’t run out of space or juice. Standard filming uses about 150mb/minute, so make sure to have enough space and maybe delete some junk from your phone beforehand. Avoid filming in 4k, as it’s not really worth the additional space consumption.

For battery, make sure to start with a good charge, but you probably also want to get yourself a battery pack or similar so that you can keep charging while you are out and about.

Tips for shooting interviews

Next up we got a bunch of tips for shooting, especially interviews. At first, I thought this was oddly specific, but the idea is that even if your final video doesn’t look like an interview, you use interviews to get the soundbites that you use in the video. Probably the end result won’t show the interviewer or the questions, but the responses stand alone and are used to craft the narrative of the video.

So here’s how to do it.

  • Generally, you want to shoot horizontally, ie landscape. If you are very sure that the video is for a vertical format (like an Instagram story) that’s maybe different, but it’s a lot easier to go from landscape to portrait than vice-versa.
  • Don’t use the digital zoom! It makes everything look pixelated. Just get, in the timeless words of The Cure, close to me .
  • Give your phone lens a quick wipe before you start.

Interviewing

  • Apply the “rule of thirds”. That is, frame your shot so that the subject is in the left or right vertical third of the shot. They should be angled towards the centre such that an imaginary speech bubble out of their mouth would fill up the rest of the frame.
  • Height: the camera lens, the subject’s eyes, and the interviewer’s eyes should all be at the same level. Sitting down can help with this.
  • Use the background to tell a story. Think strategically about what’s going to be in the shot besides the subject.
  • Headroom: allow a bit of space above the head of the subject, as if they were wearing a small tiara.
  • Make sure that the subject answers questions with full sentences so that it will make sense once you edit out the questions!

Cutaways and B-Roll

Your video won’t be just talking heads though. “Cutaways” aka “B-Roll” are other shots you get for variety and visual interest. For example, every time there is a news story about power prices they have endless shots of people flicking on air conditioners. Hopefully though yours will be less cliched.

 Here the tips are:

  • Get about five seconds of each shot.
  • Use cutaways to convey the story you are telling: people in action, still or moving objects, scenery. Think about what imagery will help tell the story.
  • Use shots at a variety of distances: wide shots to give a sense of place, medium shots to cover who and what, tight shots to give detail.
  • Think about the camera angle and maybe play with it: you might film upwards, downwards, over the shoulder…different angles will convey a different meaning.
  • If you are moving your phone while filming, use subtle and controlled movements. Move very slowly. Otherwise, the footage will end up feeling very fast.

Almost there! You’ve got your A-roll (the interview content!), you’ve got your B-roll (the cutaways). Now you’re ready to put it all together.

As described by Natasha, the five steps of editing are:

1. File organisation

Get everything in the one place, even if it just means favouriting things on your smartphone or moving them all into a new folder. This will make your life a lot easier!

2. Create soundbites

Go through your A-roll and get rid of interviewer questions, ending up just with the responses. Then find the responses that you want to use to tell your story, and get them into the right order. You’re beginning to shape your narrative.

3. Cutaways

Think about what’s being said in each soundbite, and what cutaways will work with the content? In particular, when you jump from one soundbite to another, it will look disjointed – you can use a cutaway to paper over the transitions so that it’s smoother. (Imagine: Footage of soundbite 1 > cutaway 1 > Footage of soundbite 2 )

4. Titles and transitions

 Gotta have ‘em.

5. Exporting

Gotta do it.

Your software options are:

  • Kinemaster comes highly recommended for Android or iPhone . The user interface looked very friendly. There is a free version (with watermark) or it is $7.50 per month.
  • Other options for mobile are splice ( iPhone ) or quik ( Android / iPhone ).
  • On a laptop, Filmora comes highly recommended. You can try it for free and then buy a lifetime license. Another fancy option to check out is Lumen5 : it’s like Canva for video! That is, it sort of automatically can turn a story into an interesting video.

That’s a wrap

After Natasha’s workshop, I was kicking myself for the mistakes I’d previously made when making video, and also for all the times I didn’t make a video because I didn’t know how to do it. To be fair, creating a good story isn’t simple. But it’s a lot easier when you know a bit about the craft. So good luck with your storytelling, and I hope you end up with many unsolicited skincare products.

How to give a great presentation with just your phone.

how to make video presentation using cellphone

Mobile devices are becoming increasingly capable of doing more than offering the means for checking emails, sending text messages, and playing frivolous games. And of course, they can also be used to make calls! There are a plethora of apps and methods that can be used for creating, editing and presenting presentations using smart devices.

Previously, we presented a few of those options in our post about the best presentation apps for Android . This time we will provide you with a comprehensive guide regarding how you can use smart devices like smartphones, tablets and phablets to present your presentations.

The methods mentioned in this post can be used for presenting a slide deck made in PowerPoint, or a web app like Google Slides or Slide Magic . Many of the below mentioned methods can also be used for displaying photos, documents, spreadsheets and video presentations on a projector, monitor or computer screen using an Android or iOS device.

Choosing Between Wireless & Wired Connectivity

Before we proceed to the ‘how’, it’s worth pointing out that you should pick out the wireless and/or wired options for presenting your presentations according to the capability of the available hardware. For example, you might opt for HDMI or VGA connectivity, an app that lets you wirelessly connect to a monitor, a default mirroring feature in a projector or SmartTV, etc.

While wireless connectivity might seem like a convenient option, you must consider the available devices at the venue, as well as the capability of your smart device. While iOS devices tend to be more uniform, Android devices are a dime a dozen. This makes the latter unpredictable.

Moreover, different projectors and monitors have different connectivity options which you must account for, therefore, the first thing you must do is to be make sure what hardware is available for presenting your presentation; including the devices available at the presentation venue, and the capability of your own smartphone, tablet or hybrid device.

Connecting your ios device

Connecting & Mirroring your Device on a Projector, TV or Monitor

There are perhaps more methods for connecting a smart device than we can list down. There are several apps and devices which can allow you to connect and mirror your smart device on a projector, TV or monitor screen. We have listed down some of the commonly used methods that you can use connecting and mirroring an Android or iOS device.

Android devices tend to be quite unpredictable. There are so many companies manufacturing Android devices globally that it is likely you haven’t heard of a few dozen of them! This also means that different Android devices have very different capabilities, and many don’t support various methods and apps for wired or wireless mirroring. Here are a few common methods which should help you connect an Android device to a projector, TV or monitor screen.

Wired Connectivity

The most common method for connecting your Android device to a projector is by using MHL or HDMI. The connectivity options mentioned below may or may not be available for your smart device.

Android wired connectivity

Mini-HDMI and HDMI to VGA Adapter

You can use a mini-HDMI cable to connect your smart device to a projector. In case the projector you are using does not have an HDMI cable, you might need an HDMI to VGA Adapter .

hdmi to vga adapter

MHL is a technology used to connect mobile devices to monitors and TV screens. Provided your smartphone supports MHL, you can connect MHL to an HDMI adapter to connect to a projector. You can also use a Micro USB to VGA MHL Adapter to connect to multimedia devices.

Wireless Connectivity

Presenting a presentation wirelessly may have its pros and cons. You will require a reliable wireless connection, as any jitters caused by your wireless connection might result in unwanted disruptions. Here are a few reliable options that you can use to wirelessly present presentations via an Android smart device.

wireless android connection

Using Chromecast, you can cast your Android device to a large screen. This method is best suited for quick connectivity to TV screens. There are many conference rooms which use TV screens instead of projectors. This makes it possible to use devices like Chromecast. With Chromecast you can mirror an Android smartphone or tablet to the big screen by using the Google Cast app. Here is a video which shows you how to cast your Android device to a TV screen.

Android Mirroring Apps

There are a number of apps which allow mirroring Android screen to a computer. You can connect your computer to a projector or monitor to present your presentations using apps like AirDroid or simply use apps like Allcast for mirroring an Android device to a SmartTV. Allcast supports a plethora of devices for casting photos and videos. Some of the devices supported by Allcast include; Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, WDTV, Roku, Samsung, Sony and Panasonic Smart TVs, DLNA Renderers, etc.

Here is a video which shows how to mirror your Android screen using Mirror Beta, Allcast and Google Chrome. [Video Courtesy: Learn Share]

Mirror Your Smart Device to a Smart TV

If you require connecting to a SmartTV for presenting a presentation, you can make use of various SmartTV apps. It is likely that the TV in use already has apps or a mechanism for certain supported devices. For example, Samsung’s SmartTV’s provide mirroring options for mirroring Android devices from various Galaxy smartphone models. Here is a video which shows you how to mirror an Android device to a SmarTV. [Video Courtesy: GizmoBeast]

Projector Apps for Android

There are a number of projectors which have their own apps which allow sending files to a wireless projector. For example, Panasonic provides the Wireless Projector app for Android and iOS devices which enables displaying images, PDF, PowerPoint, Word and Excel files via an Android device to a Panasonic projector. The app requires a Wi-Fi connection to display content from Android devices to a supported projector.

You can look for similar apps for the projector at the presentation venue via the Google Play Store or check out the projector company’s website to find apps provided for wireless connectivity using mobile devices and tablets.

Projector Phone

While this isn’t a very common method, however, you might find it quite convenient for impromptu presentations. A projector phone is a smartphone with a built-in projector. With a projector phone you can instantly display the content of your device by projecting it on a flat surface via built-in pico projector. Back in the day Samsung’s Galaxy Beam came with a built-in HD projector, which was later followed by Galaxy Beam 2. Lately, the Akyumen Hawk projector phones and tablets have been providing HD projectors in their smart devices.

Apple’s smart devices have the ideal hardware for wireless presentations. Moreover, they tend to be more uniform, as they aren’t manufactured by dozens of companies. There are various ways by which you can present a presentation using an iPhone or iPad device. Here are a few wired and wireless options that you can use for your slide decks and video presentations.

There are only a handful of methods for wired connectivity for mirroring an iOS device and those too might require the use of an adapter.

wired connectivity for ios

HDMI and VGA

The most common method to connect an iOS device is to use a Digital AV or VGA adapter to connect your iPhone or iPad device to an HDMI or VGA cable connected to a projector, TV or computer. You can learn more about how to connect your iOS device to a projector, TV or computer via this Apple Support page.

hdmi and vga

Document Camera

While this might not be the preferred option, however, you can use a document camera to display the content of your iOS device by connecting the camera to a projector.

Document camera

Here are a few wireless connectivity options that you can use for mirroring your iOS device to a projector, TV or computer screen.

Wireless connectivity options

You can use Airplay to play photos and videos from an iOS device to an Apple TV or AirPort Express. Airplay is one of the most common methods to wirelessly stream content from iOS devices, however, the limited number of devices supported for Airplay reduces its utility for presenters. You can see this guide from the Apple Support page to learn all about using Airplay for wirelessly streaming your content to supported devices.

airplay

You might want to reduce the hassle of using an adapter and VGA cable by simply opting for connectivity via Apple TV. Using Apple TV you can connect your iOS device using Airplay. You can see a detailed guide for connecting an Apple TV to a projector from the video given above, which shows connectivity via HDMI, VGA and Apple TV.

Projector Apps for iOS

Just like there are projector apps for Android, there are apps for iOS provided by different companies that manufacture a range of projectors. For example, Panasonic’s Wireless Projector app for iOS provides the utility to wirelessly display files to a supported Panasonic projector using an iOS device.

AirServer is a software for mirroring your smart device to a PC, Mac or Xbox One. What’s great about AirServer is that it supports Mircast, Google Cast and AirPlay. AirServer is available for a number of platforms, including iOS and Android devices. Here is a video which provides an overview of AirServer. [Video Courtesy: Airserverapp]

Screen Mirroring Apps for iOS Devices

Mirroring360 is an app which allows wirelessly sharing an iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac or Windows screen. For iOS devices, you can install the Mirroring360 app on a Mac or PC and begin mirroring your iOS device using AirPlay. There are also other apps which provide a similar functionality such as; Reflector 2 and X-Mirage .

There are several methods that can be used for connecting your Android or iOS device to a projector, TV screen, monitor or computer to present presentations. We have covered some of the most commonly used methods, with some recommended apps and devices that can help you use a wireless or wired connection for presenting presentations and picture slideshows, video presentations and to conduct Live demos using smart devices. It is quite likely that there might be easier and more robust methods introduced for mirroring and streaming content from smart devices in the near future.

If you know of a good app, device or method for wirelessly presenting presentations using an Android or iOS device, do share your thoughts with us via our comments section.

Hello, I enjoyed the read. I am the administrator of a school and I am looking for some sort of link that allows compatibility with ios and android. Most of my teachers have iPhones but then there is folk like me that use android. Our teachers have a projector in their rooms but I am trying to figure out if I have to buy a second device to hook up to all projectors to make it possible for any teacher to present in any room. Do you have any advice or input on the matter?

13th October 2017 at 6:10 pm

Most projectors support both Android and iOS devices and have apps for them. You might want to look into supported apps for your projector(s).

On a side note, if you wish to physically connect multiple projectors for a centralized control, you will need a KVM switch.

More device recommendations will be available in a new post I just submitted to my editor.

A Beginner’s Guide to Taking Great Video on Your Phone

how to make video presentation using cellphone

By Terry Sullivan

  • April 17, 2018

Not long ago, a filmmaker wouldn’t dream of shooting a movie on a phone because the quality was so inferior to what you could capture on pricier devices. But that’s changing. Consider this: The most recent project from the renowned American film director Steven Soderbergh, “Unsane,” was shot entirely on an iPhone .

Today, there are lots of reasons everyone from pro photographers to amateur shutterbugs are using phones to shoot video projects.

Like many of his peers, Christian Nachtrieb, a Boston-based corporate and wedding photographer, finds phones aren’t just continuing to improve in terms of quality, but they’re also extremely convenient. “It’s the readiness factor. Having a phone right in your pocket is a huge plus,” says Mr. Nachtrieb, who might see a stunning sunset, capture it on his phone, and then splice it into a final wedding video. “No one in a million years could tell the difference between our main cameras and the iPhone.”

What makes a good video good?

What do such improvements in video quality allow you to capture? In theory, a good video. But that can mean many things: Good on a technical level? Or, perhaps, a clip that’s simply fun to watch? First, let’s explore some of the basic elements that make up good video.

Technical excellence in a good video can be pretty easy to spot: we see examples of it all the time on television. During the 2018 Olympics, for instance, you could watch skilled videographers shoot breathtaking videos of athletes in spectacular settings. From a technical standpoint, here are some common elements in those and other types of video that you can apply to video captured on your phone.

Composition: To create compelling video, compose the elements in a scene or sequence deliberately. Use your phone’s LCD the way a fine-art painter might arrange forms, colors, lines and textures on canvas. (For more on composition, visit Kyle Cassidy’s article on Videomaker.com , which offers a wonderful introduction to composition and compositional devices, like the rule of thirds, as well as valuable tips, such as focusing on people’s eyes in your video.)

Lighting: Light not only defines your subjects but also sets the mood or evokes emotion. Experiment with light and be aware of where your main light source is. For instance, noon sunlight on a cloudless day creates unflattering shadows on your subject’s face, while an overcast or cloudy day produces a softer, more pleasant-looking light. And remember what the legendary film director Martin Scorsese once noted : “Light is at the core of who we are and how we understand ourselves.”

Point of view: Ask yourself “Where am I pointing my camera lens and from what angle?” Consider point of view figuratively, as well: “How will the video’s point of view help me tell the story?” Some videos are like selfies and use a very subjective point of view to connect viewers to the story. For other videos you might want a more detached, less personal point of view. And when shooting small children or babies, get right down on the floor to shoot.

A video can resonate for reasons other than exquisite technique. The subject might be funny, or the story simply thrilling, sad, or even chaotic. Sometimes, a powerful video, though technically flawed, still draws us in by other means. Two film sequences come to my mind that illustrate this point.

The first, the apology scene from “The Blair Witch Project,” presents a visually awkward composition, in which the subject’s face is dramatically cropped. Also, the lighting and audio are lousy. Yet, the monologue, a horror-film soliloquy of sorts, conveys intensity, mystery and a baroque quality. You can almost feel the presence of a dark force outside the visual frame.

In the second sequence, the “I just wanna go the distance” sequence from the movie “Rocky” (2:00 in the video clip), the video subtly elevates an ordinary moment of doubt. It’s an exceptionally quiet moment, where Sylvester Stallone, as Rocky, lies down next to Talia Shire, as Adrian, telling her he can’t beat the champ. For nearly two minutes, the camera slowly pans in as the fighter utters his thoughts. What transfixes us is primarily the audio, since there’s little action. Yet it’s visual, too. I can’t help thinking of it as an updated version of the intensity and pathos you see in the ancient Greek sculpture, “Dying Gaul.”

So, good video obviously operates on a very visual level, but it can be driven in nonvisual ways, too. Keep your eyes open for such opportunities.

Start with the right settings

Before taking video on your phone, set it up properly. One important setting is video resolution, which refers to how large your movie will be. Two common resolutions are 1080 HD and 4K, which is the larger of the two.

Next, check the frame rate, which sets how many individual frames per second (fps) your video records. Common settings are 30 fps, 60 fps, and less commonly, 24 fps. The higher the number, the smoother-looking video you’ll produce. Most video is shot at 30 fps or 29.97 fps (in the United States), although 60 fps will show smoother, less jittery video when depicting action. But some videographers, like Mr. Nachtrieb, prefer filming in 24 fps, which mimics the frame rate used in cinema films.

Each of these two settings affects some visual or audio component of your project. They also can determine the final file size of the video. For instance, a five-second video shot at 4K-resolution will be roughly four times the size of the same segment shot in 1080 HD resolution. “When it comes to resolution,” says Mr. Nachtrieb, “it’s always going to be a compromise between your storage capacity on your phone and the quality resolution you want. I try to shoot 4K whenever possible.”

An Easy, but Important Tip: Clean Your Lens Mr. Nachtrieb recalls how he and a friend were shooting the same subject one day, but his friend’s lens was dirty, which produced blurry video. “Make sure your lens is clear. If it’s not, carefully clean it with a microfiber cloth.”

How to improve your video quality

Shooting video on a phone isn’t the most intuitive experience. That’s because phones were designed as multipurpose devices, which also means they lack some important features, like a handgrip or optical zoom, which gets you closer to your subject without degrading image quality. (Instead, phones mostly use digital zoom, which often degrades image quality. So, avoid zooming in digitally. Instead, “zoom with your feet” or simply walk closer to your subject, if you can.) Here are several tips for getting better results.

1. Orientation: Be sure to orient your phone horizontally. “When I’m watching the news and there’s footage from a bystander that’s in portrait mode,” says Mr. Nachtrieb, “that’s an immediate signal that it’s an amateur video.” He says that while Instagram and Snapchat seem to be “aiding and abetting” users to create more portrait- or vertically-oriented footage, it’s best to avoid it.

2 Avoid Back Lighting: “Avoid having a window or light source behind your subject, since he or she will look silhouetted,” says Mr. Nachtrieb. Instead, have the light source more to the side of you or behind you.

3. Use both hands: “Always have two hands on the phone,” says Mr. Nachtrieb. “It may seem rudimentary, but it makes a big difference. Phone lenses generally have optical image stabilization built in, so they’re pretty stable already. But using two hands produces even steadier footage.” It also avoids what he calls the Jell-O effect. “If you’re moving the camera around too quickly, it can have a wavy quality to it.” Using two hands lessens the chance of creating this effect.

4. Lock Focus and Exposure: Mr. Nachtrieb suggests tapping on your phone’s LCD (on the point you want to focus on), which will lock focus on Google Android devices, or holding your finger in place, which locks focus on the Apple iPhone.“In low light, your phone’s camera will hunt for focus.” That makes it look less professional. Most phones let you also lock or manually adjust the exposure, too.

5. Improve Your Audio, Too: Most video pros say good quality audio is essential for powerful video. The good news is that the microphones on smartphones have improved in recent years. What’s more is that audio accessories, such as Bluetooth microphones, can make the audio in your video projects sound outstanding (which we’ll get to in a moment).

Here are two audio tricks: Borrow a second phone, start recording audio, and place the phone in your subject’s pocket. “Then, shoot video on your phone from far away,” says Mr. Nachtrieb. “You can always sync up the audio tracks later in video editing.” And when interviewing subjects, don’t interrupt their replies, says Mr. Nachtrieb.

6. Try Slow Mo and Time Lapse Effects: Many smartphones come with some powerful video features, including modes that appear to slow down or speed up time, which are more commonly known as slow motion and time lapse. The former captures video at an accelerated frame rate; when played back at normal speed, action in the video appears much slower than real time. With time lapse, a lower frame rate is used. When it’s played back at normal speed, action moves much faster than in real time. Both can produce compelling video.

Add accessories, or step up to a stand-alone camera

If you’re not happy with the hardware features on your phone, there are accessories to expand its capability and, in some cases, the quality of your video, particularly if you’re interested in Vlogging.

Here are a few products to consider, courtesy of our colleagues at Wirecutter, The New York Times Company’s product review site:

Accessory kit lenses :

Wirecutter testers like the Moment Wide-angle lens , $100. The lens attaches over a phone’s camera lens to give you a wider shot without drastically degrading image quality.

Now that we’ve answered a few basic questions, let’s dig deeper into why videos are so powerful.

What Makes Video Presentations so Effective?

Why do they increase the impact of your message?

Well, it’s simple, really – people are visual creatures. This means we take in more information by watching than by reading. Remember the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words”? Besides that, here are 4 other reasons video is so effective:

1. Conveys emotions better

No other communication channel conveys emotions better than video. That’s because video caters to the brain’s visual and auditory systems, helping the viewer pick up on cues like body language, facial expressions, imagery, and music.

2. Cements information better

According to research , people remember 10% of what they hear and 20% of what they read. However, they remember a staggering 80% of what they experienced. In short, visuals are easier to remember than text or audio because they help your audience “experience” your message. It makes video an essential part of creating presentations your audience will remember for a long time.

3. Makes it easier to digest information

Especially when explaining complicated concepts, video is a great way to present information in an easy-to-understand way. Not only is the format easy to take in, but it also makes breaking down concepts easier.

4. Builds relationships fast

I’m sure you know the marketing mantra: people buy from people they know, like, and trust. Nothing beats video in making prospects or your audience know, like, and trust you…   fast. Video is an instant relationship builder. It’s the next best thing to live face-to-face communication.

A video is a great tool that has made it easier to communicate thoughts and ideas with people – not just in a room, but even across the globe.

How to create killer Video Presentations – 4 Tips

Now you know why video presentations are important and which scenarios to use them in. Now to the fun part – tips on creating killer video presentations. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Tip #1 - Know your Audience

how to create a killer video presentations - know your audience

The most important aspect of creating a stellar presentation is to know and understand your audience. Even if you use the best video presentation maker , if you don’t target a specific, clearly defined audience, your presentation will flop. Understanding your audience will help you:

A. Communicate effectively

Effective communication involves knowing the language and examples that resonate with your audience.

B. Choose the right visuals

Certain visuals are more impactful when used on a particular audience. Study those that your audience will easily understand and relate to.

C. Connect on an emotional level

No matter the type of presentation, it’s crucial to connect with your audience on an emotional level. And to do that, you need to understand the emotional triggers to push in your video presentation.

Invest in adequate audience research. While it may be time-consuming (and a bit costly), it will pay off in the end.

Idea #2 - Brainstorm video content ideas

Create Killer Video Presentations - Brainstorm Video Content Ideas

Now that you have gathered enough audience data, it’s time to brainstorm some content ideas. Whether you’re creating your talk solo or as a team, 3 crucial questions will lay the foundation of your brainstorming session:

1. What do you want the video to achieve? 2. Which emotions do you want the video to evoke? 3. What will visual elements help your video achieve its goal?

The answers to these questions will help guide your ideas. They are key to creating a killer video that your audience will love.

Tip #3 - Craft engaging scripts

Craft Engaging Scripts

Audience research? Check.

Great idea? Check.

Now we get to another interesting stage of creating great video presentations  â€“ crafting an engaging script. Whether it’s a live presentation, a webinar, or even a product review, you’ll need a great script to ensure you keep your audience engaged.

Even if you love creating impromptu videos, having a script for your video presentations is important. And no, you need not be Quentin Tarantino to produce a great video script (although it won’t hurt to learn how to become a good copywriter). Here are 3 reasons a good video script is a must:

1) Helps structure your video

To ensure your video has a smooth and progressive flow, you’ll need a good script.

2) Eliminates “dead spots”

Dead spots, or moments of inactivity, are a great turn-off in a video. They reek of unprofessionalism and can lead to your audience disengaging. The best way to eliminate dead spots is to craft a solid video script .

3) Keeps you on track

It’s very easy to get sidetracked when creating a video . However, with a script, you minimize the instances of going off-topic.

Creating scripts for your videos is a best practice that shouldn’t be overlooked. If anything, invest more in your script than the visuals as a good script can save a video with poor visuals.

Pro-tip: Once you’re confident about your script, it is time to make things even more clear. A  storyboard will allow you to break down your video visually, scene by scene, describing what is happening in it.

Tip #4 - Invest in the Right Tools

video presentations right tools - InVideo

With video, one thing you should never skimp on is the tools you use, particularly your video editing software. While there is a gazillion free video editing software on the market, it’s highly recommended that you use a professional video editor . And that means going the paid route.

Why should you spend on a video editor when there are countless free options available? Here’s why:

A. Get more (professional) features

Creating professional-looking videos requires a lot of resources and features. Most free video editors lack the features that will enable you to create professional videos.

B. Avoid branding and ads

With video editing software, free is never free. That’s because you pay through being forced to include the video editors brand in your work. In other words, you pay by advertising for them. Besides branding, some free video editors may subject you to irritating in-app ads.

If there’s one thing that’s inevitable when it comes to software, it’s that one time or another you’ll encounter glitches. This is where paid video editors have a great advantage over their free counterparts – you’ll have access to customer support.

From hardware (like cameras) to software (like video editing software), the tools you use will determine the quality of your videos. Invest in professional tools, and your presentations will sweep your audience off their feet because they’ll be more polished.

Pro tip: If you don't have the time or bandwidth to find your way around an editing tool, simply sign up to InVideo for business and get presentations created using tailor-made templates and on-demand editing services. Sign up for a free demo here .

Tip #5 - Adopt Video Presentation Best Practices

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when creating presentations . Most winning video presentations are based on common fundamental principles that work. Here are some you need to know:

1) Create impactful intros (and outros)

Your intro is the most important part of your presentation as it sets the tone for the rest of the talk. If you can’t engage your audience with your intro, you probably won’t get another chance to engage them.

2) Keep it short, sharp, and sweet

No matter how engaging your video is, always remember it’s not a movie. The point is to keep your audience engaged enough to pass on your information, no more no less.

3) Be professional

Don’t throw out your professional etiquette just because you’re on (or using) video. Maintain professionalism in your video presentations by, for example, using clean language and maintaining a good posture.

4) Use quality sound

Sound plays an integral part in presentations. Whether it’s music or speech, make sure it’s crisp, clear, and audible.

By following these (and other) video presentation best practices, success is inevitable. Remember, the presentation is not about you; it’s about your audience. So, ensure that your presentations provide a good user experience for your audience.

video presentation templates in InVideo

Templates are lifesavers. They help you create a decent presentation in a snap, even if you are a newbie.

Here are 3 simple questions to help you determine if a template is good:

1) Is it editable? – Are you able to change things like playback speed, effects, or text, so you produce something you like? Stay away from rigid templates that don’t give you the freedom to create with ease.

2) Is it customizable? – Can you design brand-specific clips using your company’s colors, fonts, and styling? Good templates give you wiggle room to include your brand’s specific needs.

3) Is it campaign-specific? – Different videos fit different scenarios. Ideally, you want templates tailored to your current campaign.  That way, you have less tweaking to do because the templates are close to what you want.

5 Awesome Video Presentation ideas to bring The House Down

Presentation is both an art and science. Get the balance right, and you have the audience eating out of the palm of your hand. Here are some ideas to help you do just that.

Idea #1 - Tickle them with humor

Humor is a powerful learning tool.

According to studies by Physiology Org humor leads to learning because of it:

- Attracts and sustains attention. - Relieves tension and produces a relaxed atmosphere. - Enhances participation. - Increases retention and motivation. - Bonds the student and the teacher.

However, to reap all these benefits, the humor must be appropriate and on-topic. So spice up your presentation with a joke or two. The result? Your audience will laugh and learn.

Idea #2 - Use Relevant Examples

Effective presenters use timely, powerful illustrations.

The word illustration comes from the Latin term ‘illustration,’ which means illumination. So practical examples are like windows of your presentation. They let light in. They help people see or understand the material better.

Here are 5 questions to ask about your illustrations:

1. Are they relevant to the topic? 2. Are they suited to the audience? 3. Are they suited to the time limit? 4. Are they enlightening? 5. Are they well told?

Grab compelling examples from books, movies, TV shows, history, children, current events, and captivating real-life incidents. Use good illustrations ram your points home.

Idea #3 - Wield Questions like a Ninja

Questions are an integral part of learning.

Sharp questions aid learning. Plus, they keep listeners highly engaged.

Ask questions:

- At the beginning of your presentation to draw your audience in. - In the middle of the presentation to revive waning audience interest. - At the end of the talk, so the audience reflects on the material.

Also, allow the audience to ask questions. When your audience asks questions, they switch from passive spectators to active participants.

Idea #4 - Be Minimal

Have you ever sat through a presentation and felt:

- Dazed? - Confused? - Strained?

More than likely, the reason is the presenter drowned you in a blaze of inessential stuff. There was too much going on you couldn’t cope with.

Minimalism is removing all unnecessary material, leaving only the bare minimum needed to put your points across. It means using just enough text, visuals, scenes, or slides to make the point and no more. A minimal presentation is clean and uncluttered.

Simple yet intriguing. Plain but profound. Basic but punchy.

Most importantly, it makes learning easy and enjoyable.

Idea #5 - Connect emotionally with a story

Stories are speakers’ most powerful weapons. That’s because stories play a dual purpose –

- Engage intellectually - Connect Emotionally

And an emotional connection is key to bringing the house down with your presentation. Why?

An emotional connection:

- Endears you to your audience - Makes your presentation memorable - Inspires your audience to take action

By using a relevant story in your video presentation, you’ll ensure that your audience walks the entire journey with you from intro to outro.

6 PowerPoint Presentation tips to wow your audience

powerpoint presentation tips

No business video guide is complete without PowerPoint, the staple software for business presentations.

Here are 6 golden rules to help you nail your next PowerPoint presentation and leave your audience crying for more:

1. Keep Things Simple

Legendary artist Leonardo da Vinci once said something profound:

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication".

With the plethora of apps and templates at your disposal, you will be tempted to complicate things. Don’t. Keep things simple.

Simple design. Simple colors. Simple story.

People get swamped and confused by complicated stuff but easily absorb and appreciate straightforward material.

2. Good visual contrast

What use is your blockbuster presentation if the audience can’t see it?

You want people to enjoy your presentation, not endure it. If you use dark fonts on dark backgrounds or light fonts on light backgrounds, you’ll strain your audience’s eyes. They’ll struggle to see your lovely slides.

Classic black-on-white color contrast does just fine. You can use colors like red, blue, or yellow for headings and images. If you don’t like black and white, you can use other colors you prefer as long as the contrast of your combination is bold and strong.

3. Use a few words and animations

It’s easy to go overboard with fancy animations and a gushing stream of words. Only use as many words as it takes to get your point across and no more.

Too many words cause the audience to read rather than listen. Remember, your slides are there to compliment your talk, not substitute it. Also, a lot of words will fill up many slides that wear your audience down.

Ruthlessly cut out senseless animations that don’t add value to your talk.

4. Use excellent images

Images are to a presentation, what water is to fish. Without them, your presentation becomes bland. It lacks the needed fizz to keep your audience hooked. But only include relevant images.

Not only that. Above all, make sure all pictures are of high quality. Amateur-looking clip art causes the audience not to take you seriously.

Pro-tip: Get access to millions of stock assets and tailor-made templates with InVideo for business . Sign up for a free demo here .

5. Smooth and fast transitions

While PowerPoint transitions can make your presentation engaging, don’t overdo them, especially the advanced ones. Not only do they quickly drain power on weaker machines, but they also distract the audience. Stick to simpler and faster transitions like wipe or slide.

6. Avoid overloading your slides

In presentations, less is more.

Having a lot going on your screen confuses and overwhelms listeners.

Cramming too much info into your slides is a big no-no. Clutter is your enemy. Strip your slides down to essential words and images. Your audience will love you for it and leave you with many takeaways.

Pro looking Video Presentations – No longer an option

With Industry 4.0 fast coming into its own, going digital is no longer an option for businesses and speakers.

And one of the most important communication mediums in the digital age is video. That’s why you can’t afford to ignore video any more. Whether you’re speaking before a live audience or seeking to disseminate information to a global audience, video presentations are the way to go.

#1. Set up for the video you want

The best videos are those that were planned. So before you head out, whip out your smartphone, and hit record, take a moment to sit and plan your shots and your content.

Thinking of creating a short film or music video? Plan by creating a frame-by-frame storyboard. Not only will this help you set up your shots, this can also be your editing guide once you start combining all your clips together.

Another way to prepare is to download all the apps you’ll need. Sure, your phone’s camera could have the best lens or sensors in the market — but all this is useless if you don’t have software to help you edit.

So before anything else, take a look around your phone’s app store for editing apps you can download. One worth checking out is Instasize , an editing software with several tools you can use to spruce up your video — from settings to play around with, to ready-made filters you can choose with a tap of your screen.

#3. Get yourself a tripod

Aside from software, consider getting your hands on some hardware as well. A tripod, for example, can help you control the movement of your phone or camera — especially at night or in low lighting when you’re likely to get blurry, shaky shots.

There are so many kinds of tripods out in the market. The trick to getting the right one is knowing what kind of videos you want to shoot, then buying the hardware to match your objective.

  • Tabletop tripods , just as the name suggests, are best for when you want to mount your phone on a flat surface and maybe shoot a vlog or do a livestream.
  • Traditional tripods , on the other hand, have longer legs — perfect for outdoor use when shooting landscape scenes and timelapse videos.
  • If you’re planning to get some pretty dynamic shots, your best bet is an octopus-type tripod . This tripod has flexible legs you can wrap around poles or branches when you need to shoot from dynamic angles.

#4.  Pay special attention to lighting

Of all the elements necessary in creating a stunning video, lighting is probably the one that can make or break your shot. This is especially true for smartphone cameras because they tend to have smaller lenses and image sensors compared to actual video cams.

So when it comes to shooting videos with your phone, make sure you always have a decent light source. If you’re shooting someone’s face like in most make-up tutorials, one tip is to invest in a ring light . Not only does it create a beautiful catch light on your subject’s eyes, it also casts a diffused light that eliminates unsightly shadows from the face.

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by HUDA KATTAN (@hudabeauty) on Dec 15, 2019 at 6:48am PST

If you’re shooting outdoors, remember that the sun is your friend — if you know what time of day to shoot.

  • The midday sun will give you the most light, and because of its position in the sky, will most likely lead to energetic shots that are higher in contrast.
  • The sun before dusk , on the other hand, tends to cast golden hues, which is perfect if you’re trying to achieve a more relaxed vibe and aesthetic.

#5. Sometimes vertical is better

A few years ago, shooting videos in landscape mode used to be the rule of thumb. This was especially true when the goal was to include as much of the scenery as possible in your frame.

Today though, with Instagram Stories, IGTV, and more recently, TikTok taking the social media scene by storm, vertical has become the orientation of choice.

Vertical videos_Instasize

So when it comes to shooting videos for social media, try playing around with a vertical framing, especially if you’re sharing these on your Stories or other vertical-favoring platforms. If you’re planning to upload your video as content, then you should make sure that your shots can be easily cropped into a square format.

When it comes to shooting videos for social media, try playing around with a vertical framing, especially if you’re sharing these on your Stories or other vertical-favoring platforms.

#6. Know your length limits

Social media platforms tend to come with unique viewing behaviors, which means people are bound to interact with your video differently, depending on the platform it’s on.

For example, research says that if you want people to view your videos on Instagram from start to finish, you should limit your length to 30-seconds, which is enough time to keep your audience’s attention before they scroll on to the next bit of content.

Instagram Stories, on the other hand, can run for up to 15 seconds — but it’s still best to keep it as short as you can, especially when people tend to tap on to the next Story once they’ve become disinterested in what they’re viewing.

When it comes to Twitter and Facebook, the ideal times are 45 seconds and 1 minute respectively — giving you a few more seconds to catch your audience’s attention.

If you’re looking to create long-form films that run 2 minutes or more, YouTube or IGTV are your best bet. These two channels are people’s go-to for watching webisodes, music videos, and vlogs, both of which tend to run a bit longer than your average snackable content.

#7.  Be smart with sound

A recent survey shows that 92% of people watch mobile videos with the sound off. So when you shoot your videos, especially when you’re planning to upload on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, try not to rely so much on audio. Create video content that can exist on mute by adding captions or subtitles when necessary.

92% of people watch mobile videos with the sound off. Create video content that can exist on mute by adding captions or subtitles when necessary.

If your video doesn’t have any monologue or dialogue, try adding an interesting soundtrack or play around with sound effects instead. You could even try composing your own — in case you didn’t know, sharing original music as content is actually a great way to monetize Instagram.

#8. Get a microphone

If you’re planning on filming some video content with dialogue or a voice-over, getting a microphone is always a great idea. Unlike video cameras that come with an external microphone attached to them, your smartphone’s microphone is built-in, and will likely capture much more surrounding noise than you’d like.

If you’re planning on filming some video content with dialogue or a voice-over, getting a microphone is always a great idea.

For vlogs or live music sessions, a shotgun mic works best because you can just attach it to your phone and point it in the direction of the sound you want to capture. If you’re planning to shoot interviews, invest in lapel mics you can easily pin to the shirt of the speaker.

#9.  Clean your lens

As basic as this sounds, this tip is actually a really important one that many tend to dismiss. Your smartphone’s camera doesn’t usually come with a lens cap, so every time you hold it, shove it in your bag or down your pocket, or even just place it on any surface, you’re actually dirtying up your lens.

The accumulation of dust, dirt, and fingerprints on your lens can result in blurry and cloudy shots with diffused lighting.

That’s why it’s always good practice to wipe your lens down before recording. Keep a microfiber cloth handy; using a tissue or your shirt can scratch your lens and lead to bigger problems.

Conclusion: Keep Exploring

The last and final tip is to have fun. Get creative. Keep watching videos to gain some inspiration.

Did a clip just go viral on social media? See how you can create branded content based on it. Stay on top of the trends to keep creating videos that are modern.

Feel free to seek inspiration from other video forms as well. Got some favorite movies? List down some peg-worthy scenes and try to replicate the composition for your videos. This could very much help you create long-form videos that are watchable till the last second.

Pocket-lint

10 tips for recording better video with your smartphone.

Recording video has never been so easy or effortless thanks to smartphones. Here are 10 tips to help you.

Key Takeaways

  • Recording video on your smartphone is easier than ever, and with a few key tips, you can capture great footage for vlogging, indie films, and more.
  • Use landscape orientation for a visually pleasing video and to avoid black vertical bars on the sides. Fill the frame with your subject and play with different angles for variety.
  • Use external lighting for better results, avoid heavily backlit settings, and consider using a gimbal for smooth and stable footage.
  • Edit your videos on your smartphone with apps like iMovie or LumaFusion.

Recording video used to require expensive specialised equipment, but these days, everyone has a powerful video camera in their pocket: a smartphone . In fact, smartphones have become more important as mobile creativity tools, to the point where some see it as the primary purpose, as important as communication.

With a little practice and access to a few key tips, even you - yes, you - can start recording great footage, vlogging, or make an indie film or documentary using just your smartphone.

Thus, in an effort to help you capture whatever it is you want in the best way possible, Pocket-lint has rounded up ten tips. Although some of the tips might seem obvious, following all of them should result in an amazing video every time.

Tips for recording better video with your smartphone

Nothing ruins great footage like having two black vertical bars along both sides of your video. To avoid this amateur mistake, make sure to use landscape orientation and not portrait orientation while recording.

Not only does landscape make your video seem more aesthetically pleasing in general, but it'll also make it more enjoyable to watch when viewed on a TV, monitor, tablet or a phone being held in landscape. Plus, you'll capture more in the actual video.

So just remember: unless you're filming specifically for vertical-oriented services like TikTok, YouTube Shorts or Instagram Stories never hold your phone vertically while recording.

Now that you're recording in the proper orientation (see above), fill the frame with your subject. You can also put them or it slightly off-centre to create a more visually interesting scene. Just play around and see what looks best.

Most phone camera apps have the option to enable gridlines if you go into the camera settings, where you have vertical and horizontal grids on the screen while shooting. The most popular framing tool is the 'rule of thirds', so if you enable a 3x3 grid on your camera app, you can line up the subject with one of the vertical 'third' lines or use the horizontal lines to get the horizon line in the desired position.

If you're going to edit the video afterwards, it's also a good principle to shoot the subject from multiple focal lengths and angles. Play with wide shots, portrait shots and close-ups. Wider shots are great for establishing the scene and placing the subject, whereas closer shots are good for conveying emotion, or showing finer details.

Nothing is worse than digital zoom - just ask any professional photographer. Thankfully, we're now in an era where a lot of the top smartphones come with a lossless or 'optical' zoom, which lets you zoom in without losing a lot (if any) of the detail.

In order to zoom in while recording without losing the crisp, vivid quality you desire in videos, you'll need a device that offers a decent optical zoom - such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra . If you have a smartphone with more than one camera on the back, often one of the extra lenses is a designated "telephoto" lens.

If you don't have a smartphone with lossless zooming, you'll need to get closer to your subject or use an accessory like the clip-on lenses from Moment , as an example. In general, you should always get as close as you can, especially for tight shots on faces. Let us see those freckles and fine lines and cheek fuzz.

We've all seen those videos where the subject has yellow skin and red devilish eyes combined with super dark backgrounds. The culprit? Well, yes, it's the photographer...but it's also the flash.

Smartphones, you see, come equipped with small LED lights that are too harsh and can easily skew the colour temperature of photos. Also, the video will often still come out poorly lit in the end. If you want to record a photo at night, you'll have to find another light source. Or, if your phone has a night mode for shooting, you can also use that. For video though, there aren't many phones out there that shoot great footage in low light.

If you do want or need extra lighting, thankfully you can pick it up relatively cheap. Search Amazon for affordable ring lights if you want an evenly lit face for filming yourself talking to the camera, or pick up some small battery-powered LED panels. They'll give you a much more flattering look, with softer shadows than the LED flash on your phone ever could.

Zhiyun Fiveray M40

We love the Zhiyun M40 pocket video light. It's no exaggeration to say that we use it almost every single day to light the photos that you see on this website. It's small and portable but kicks out a crazy 40W of light to illuminate even the most challenging scenes.

Backlighting

There's something else you should keep in mind when thinking about lighting: avoiding heavily backlit settings where possible.

You may be able to see people and their faces when they're backlit, but your smartphone camera usually can't and will output footage with a bright light haloing a dark figure. That figure will also have no visible features, meaning you just missed whatever it was you were trying to capture. Unless your phone has some really advanced HDR capabilities, that's something you definitely need to keep an eye on.

To avoid this situation, try configuring a basic light setup. Those of you who are recording on the fly can also improve a backlit situation by moving to one side or another, or moving your subject so that they're facing the light. Although the HDR effect on modern phones goes a long way towards correcting this issue, you should try reducing the effects on your end as well.

Time-lapse or time-lapse photography is a cinematography technique whereby the frequency at which film frames are captured (the frame rate) is much lower than that used to view the sequence. When you replay this sequence at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster and thus lapsing.

Simply put: time-lapse photography is time manipulation. Objects and events that would normally take hours, days, months, or years can be captured and then viewed later at a much faster speed, thanks to time-lapse photography techniques.

Before the Instagram team debuted Hyperlapse, creating a time-lapse video with your smartphone was both tedious and, to be honest, hard. Since then, most manufacturers have just built the feature right into the pre-installed camera app. Apple iPhones , for instance, have a time-lapse feature in the camera.

Still, some phones don't have it, and if yours doesn't you could always try a third-party app like Framelapse which is pretty popular.

Stabilising and smooth footage

One advancement to come out of the smartphone industry in recent years is electronic and optical image stabilisation. In essence, it reduces any handshake to a minimum if you're shooting handheld. It works relatively well, but if you're moving to follow a subject or using it to pan or orbit around a person or object, you're best bet is getting a physical gimbal that works with your phone to make it really smooth.

DJI Osmo Mobile 6

DJI's portable smartphone gimbal is a really handy tool to use for smooth footage and combines with the DJI app to offer some incredibly smart features like automatic object tracking. Plus, you get physical controls to record video and move the phone.

One such gimbal is the DJI Osmo Mobile 6. With your phone attached and the app loaded, you'll be able to utilise the power of your phone's video capabilities, but the stabilisation offered by the gimbal will give you a clean, cinematic look you'd struggle to get shooting handheld. No matter how stable your grip is.

  • Best smartphone gimbals: The top stabilisers for mobile filmmaking

Snapchat was one of the first apps to totally change the way we shoot video. With it, you can quickly send a video (or snap) of yourself at work to a friend and then they can open it, screenshot it if they want, and reply with their own video response.

You can make snaps even more fun by adding augmented reality-based special effects and sounds, with a feature called Lenses. Most of these effects are applied to your face in real time, but there are also 3D World Lenses that uniquely affect the surrounding environment.

  • What's the point of Snapchat and how does it work?

This animation is overlaid on the world around us and can be captured and then shared with our friends in a chat or followers via our story. Both Lenses and World Lenses are frequently changed by Snapchat, though popular ones are recurring. Lastly, there are filters, which you can use to jazz up your snap.

You can add coloured filters, the current time, local weather, speed overlays, or geo-filters to your video. Now, once you're done playing with any of these Snapchat features, you can always save your snap locally to your device and then share it with others via other social networks or SMS. But, if Snapchat isn't your thing, try Instagram . Instagram offers several filters and lenses for videos, too.

Accessories

Let's be honest: smartphone cameras are just not as good as the powerhouses made by Canon, Panasonic or Sony, mostly because smartphone cameras and their stock camera apps lack finer controls and other things, even though they are getting much better.

If you, therefore, want to take your smartphone video-recording skills to the next level, without having to buy a pricey mirrorless camera , you might want to consider buying accessories that reveal your camera's true potential. You can get everything from tripod mounting systems to creative lens add-ons.

  • Best smartphone camera accessories

And finally, sometimes a little editing is required in order to make your footage go from "meh" to "wow". And nowadays, you can do some intense editing on your smartphone as well, meaning you won't need to invest in fancy desktop software.

Everything from basic trimming to adding transitions, titles, and effects is simple on both iOS and Android mobile devices. Whether your next video is a montage or a school project, mobile apps can streamline the video-editing process.

Apple's own iMovie for iPhone and iPad, for instance, includes titles and transitions and even supports making theatrical trailers on the go. Other features include picture-in-picture, split screen, and slow-motion effects. It's very similar to iMovie on the Mac, in fact. For iPad Pro , you might want to give LumaFusion or Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve a go, although those are quite pricey if you want a full suite of features.

One of our favourites for Android is LumaFusion , which costs $29.99 but offers all the powers of a non-linear desktop video editor on your mobile device. If you want to get started for free, though, Adobe's Premiere Rush app is a powerful video editing tool with some of the features of Premiere Pro, stripped down to the essentials that can be used by anybody.

It offers fast video editing, much like other mobile apps, where you can just drag and drop footage and photos in the order you like and trim them down, but it is also compatible with Premiere Pro so you can export the end result to the desktop software and refine with greater control.

In conclusion, with remote control applications available in the market, flipping slides in PowerPoint has become much easier and more convenient. Whether using Microsoft PowerPoint Remote, Google Slides Remote or Keynote Remote, you can control your presentations remotely and make your presentations more dynamic. Try them and discover the comfort that these applications provide in your presentations.

4. How to configure scroll controls on your cell phone for a smooth presentation

Setting up the scroll controls on your phone properly is essential to ensure a smooth and seamless presentation. To achieve this, follow these simple steps:

First, make sure you have the latest version of the operating system On your cellphone. This will ensure that you have access to ‌all the latest features and improvements related to scroll controls.

Once you have updated your operating system, go to your phone's settings and look for the "Display Settings" section. Within this section,⁢ you will find the “Scroll Controls” option. Click on it to access configuration options.

Within the “Movement Controls” section, you will have the option to customize different aspects, such as sensitivity and type of movement. Adjust the sensitivity according to your personal preferences, keeping in mind that high sensitivity may result in faster movements, while low sensitivity will allow for more precise control.

Additionally, you can choose between different types of movement, such as vertical or horizontal scrolling. Depending on the nature of your presentation‌ and how you want to interact with it, select the most appropriate type of movement.

Remember that setting scroll controls appropriately will allow you to have complete control over your presentation, facilitating a smooth and uninterrupted experience. Don't hesitate to experiment and adjust the different parameters according to your personal needs and preferences. Now you are ready to give an impeccable presentation from your cell phone!

5. Tips to avoid connection problems during the presentation with your cell phone

1. Keep your cell phone updated: Before the presentation, make sure your phone is running the latest version of the operating system. Updates typically include performance improvements and bug fixes that may solve problems of connection.

2. Use a stable Wi-Fi network: It is advisable to connect to a Wi-Fi network rather than relying solely on mobile data. Look for a network with a strong and stable signal to avoid interruptions during the presentation. If Wi-Fi is not available,‌ consider sharing mobile data with other device for a more reliable connection.

3. Close unnecessary applications: Before starting the presentation, close all unnecessary applications and services. This will free up cell phone resources and help maintain a stable connection. Additionally, avoid downloading or streaming heavy content during your presentation, as this can affect connection speed and cause interruptions.

6. ⁢Customizing the cell phone's functions as a slide controller in PowerPoint

Did you know that your cell phone can become a practical slide controller for PowerPoint? With a little customization, you can leave traditional devices behind and use your own mobile phone to make presentations more conveniently and easily. Next, we will show you how to adapt the functions of your cell phone to make the most of this tool.

1. Download the appropriate app: To get started, you'll need to download an app on your phone that allows you to control PowerPoint from your device. There are various options available for both iPhone and Android. Some of the most popular apps are “Microsoft Office Remote” ⁢and “Remote for‌ PowerPoint,” which offer an intuitive interface⁤ and additional features to enhance your presentation experience.

2. Set up the remote connection: ⁢ Once you have installed the application, make sure that your cell phone and your computer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Open PowerPoint on your computer and enable the remote control option. In your cell phone application, look for the option to connect the device with PowerPoint and follow the ⁤steps indicated.⁢ Once the connection is made, your cell phone will ⁤act as a wireless controller.

3. Customize your controller: Now that you have your phone configured as a slide controller, you can customize the functions to your needs. In your chosen app, look for the ‌customization options and adjust the actions‌ you want to perform. For example, you can advance and rewind slides, activate the virtual laser pointer, adjust the volume and many other useful functions for your presentation.

7. Recommendations to maximize efficiency when using your cell phone as a remote control in PowerPoint

To maximize efficiency when using your cell phone as a remote control in PowerPoint, follow these recommendations:

1. Connect your cell phone and computer to the same network: ‍ Make sure that both your cell phone and the computer you are presenting on are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. This will allow a stable connection and avoid possible interruptions during⁤ the presentation.

2.‌ Download a remote control app: There are various applications available in app stores, both for Android and iOS devices, that allow you to control PowerPoint from your cell phone. Find one that fits your needs and make sure it's compatible with the version of PowerPoint you're using.

3. Familiarize yourself with the app's controls and functions: ⁢Before using your phone as a remote control in PowerPoint, take some time to explore all the features and controls of the application you downloaded. Make sure you know how to move slides forward and back, activate the laser pointer, handle videos or animations, etc. This will help you have more precise and smooth control during your presentation.

How do I increase video quality on my phone? 5 tips to take your video to the next level

how to make video presentation using cellphone

Many of us use our smartphones to capture video and pictures as precious memories. My phone's library houses almost 18,000 of my digital memories, so it's no surprise that it takes up most of the space on my device.

As our little pocket cameras became more powerful, their quality and versatility began to rival and replace the handheld cameras we used to carry around. Smartphone video cameras are pretty foolproof and easy to use, but there are a few things to keep in mind when filming so the results are amazing every time.

Watch this video to see how to shoot better video on your smartphone.

Tips for better cell phone video

  • Film horizontally, not vertically.

I know, I know, this is very controversial. My argument is this: What is the shape of your TV screen? Computer screen? How about the screen at the movie theater? Horizontal.

Plus, horizontal video also gives you more room to fit everything and everyone in the frame at the same time.

  • Make sure there is good lighting.

Good lighting is essential for good video, and it's much easier than you think to get it right.

It's this simple: you want the light to shine on what you're filming. So consider having the subject face a window, use a small light or use the flash on your smartphone to properly light your video.

  • Don't use the zoom on the phone.

Many smartphones have multiple lenses on the back, each capable of a different depth. This is useful, but when you're filming, and the phone switches from one lens to another, the picture jumps. Instead, try zooming in with your body, by which I mean physically moving closer to whatever you're filming.

  • Download a third-party app.

Third-party video apps can provide options like those found on handheld cameras, such as adjusting the white balance or changing the focus and exposure. Plus, some have a super smooth zoom feature that surpasses your smartphone's digital zoom.

  • Don't let your finger ruin the shot!

Sometimes our fingertips like to photobomb the videos we're filming, so check the corners to make sure they're not making a sneaky cameo.
