How to Unmute Presentation on Google Meet

Sakshi Garg

One of the best features of Google Meet that makes it such a great collaboration app is that you can effortlessly share your screen with the meeting participants, allowing you to give Presentations just like you would in a conference room meeting in the office.

But lately, a lot of Google Meet users have reported trouble while using the Google Meet presentation feature that is just downright frustrating and defeats the whole purpose of using a Workstream Collaboration app.

Apparently, a lot of users are facing trouble in Google Meet presentations where the microphone would mute or stop working as soon as users switch to the presentation mode. There’s probably a bug somewhere in the system that Google developers will hopefully rectify pretty soon.

But until then, when you find yourself in this situation the next time, try this simple fix. Reset your microphone permissions for Google Meet in your browser and it should make the problem disappear. Almost like magic!

To reset your microphone permissions in a browser, let’s say, Google Chrome, click on the ‘lock’ icon on the left side of the Address Bar, and from the context menu, go to the drop-down menu next to the ‘Microphone’ option.

how to unmute your google meet presentation

The setting should be on ‘Allow’ currently. Change it to ‘Block’.

how to unmute your google meet presentation

The browser would ask you to reload the page to apply the settings. Click on ‘Reload’ and re-join the meeting.

Then, repeat the first step and go to the ‘lock’ icon again, and this time, select the option ‘Allow’ from the drop-down menu next to the microphone option. Reload, and re-join the meeting, and start presenting again. You should have the audio back in the presentation.

Losing the audio while you are presenting something in an online meeting is obviously very frustrating. But, this simple fix should help solve the problem if it’s happening for you in Google Meet.

2 Ways to Share Video With Audio in Google Meet

3 Ways To Share Audio on Google Meet along with Video

Google Meet has become the go-to platform for anyone who is working or studying from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic. While working from home has its merits, we are at the mercy of the technology to connect and share with our colleagues.

One common issue faced by Google Meet users is that they can’t share audio along with the video. The video you present will be played without any sound by default which puts users in a rather frustrating situation.

Luckily there are ways you can bypass this issue and play the video with sound in Google Meet. And I am going to tell you about not one but two ways to share video with audio in Google Meet, read on to find out.

Method #1: Present a Google Chrome Tab

This is the official solution to share audio with the video made available by Google itself. You can use the Present a Chrome Tab option to present an online video and audio to other participants of a Google Meet.

While the official announcement from the Google team stated that only G Suite users can access this feature, it appears to be working fine for regular Google accounts.

The basic benefit of this feature is that you can present a single Chrome tab that you have selected to the attendees of a meeting. However, you can switch between tabs to select a different tab at any moment.

You can follow these simple steps to present a video and audio combination to your Google Meet attendees:

Step 1. Join a Google Meet or start a new Meet.

Step 2. Click on the Present Now button that usually sits at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3. Click on Choose A Tab option from the next menu and you will be taken to a list of current Chrome Tabs.

Choose a tab

Step 4. Choose the tab containing the video you want to present and then click on the Share button at the bottom of the window.

Select Chrome tab

Chrome will inform you that you are currently sharing a tab with Google Meet attendees.

Switching shared tabs

You can switch the tab you are currently sharing during Google Meet through these steps:

Step 1. Open the tab you want to switch to from the currently shared Chrome tab.

Step 2. Locate the prompt at the top of the page that says “Share this tab instead” and click on it.

Share the tab instead

Confirm that you are now presenting the tab you had selected from the prompt.

Method #2: Adjust your Windows 10 microphone settings

One way to share video and audio at the same time in Google Meet is by tweaking your Windows 10 microphone settings. You can do that with the help of these steps:

Step 1. Open the start menu and click on the Setting options.

Step 2. Open System settings and then click on the Sound option in the left panel.

Step 3. Click on Manage sound devices and find input devices.

Step 4. Enable the Stereo Mix option and while you are at it make sure that the microphone option is available along with the Stereo Mix option.

Step 5. Now go to Google Meet and click on settings, open the audio option and set the Stereo Mix as your default microphone.

Play the video you want to present, and your Google Meet participants should be able to hear the audio from the video you are playing.

Bonus method: Use your mobile device to share audio

There is another option to share audio along with the video by using your mobile phone’s mic to talk while the video is being played through your PC.

However, this feature is currently available for Google Workplace hosts only and normal users can’t access it. All you have to do is select the “Use a phone for audio” feature available to Google Workplace hosts and your phone will now serve as a mic so you can speak through it while presenting a video from your PC.

How can I stop presenting in Google Meet?

Once you have finished presenting the video or Chrome tab in Google Meet you will eventually have to stop presenting it. Stopping your presentation is easy and all you have to do is this:

Step 1. Find the You are presenting button at the bottom of the screen and click on it.

Step 2. Click on the stop presenting option to stop your presentation.

Stop presenting

While Google Meet is a powerful tool, it still lacks some functionalities, such as the inability to share audio along with your videos. However, using the solutions I have shared with you in this article, you can easily overcome this issue and present clear audio with your videos.

My personal favorite is the share a tab method as it doesn’t require making any changes to settings and doesn’t require a special type of account to use.

Google Meet tips and tricks

Are you looking to jump into a Google Meet videoconference with friends, family, or co-workers? We’ll show you the best tips and tricks to use for the most optimal online meeting experience. Whether you use Google Meet on your PC, Mac, or mobile device, such as an Android smartphone, iPhone, or iPad, these tips will help you master videoconferencing. If you are using Google Hangouts instead, we have a great guide for Hangouts tips and tricks .

Change the meeting layout

Add captions to google meet, control google meet participants, phone into a google meet conference, allow google chrome notifications, record video meetings, share your screen during a meeting, adjust your video settings, google meet keyboard shortcuts.

Want to change how you view other participants and content? You can alter your layout easily when in a Google Meet videoconference on a PC or Mac. To change your layout during a meeting, click the More Options button (three vertical dots) and then Change Layout.  Here, you can select one of the available view types:

  • Auto: Allow Google Meet to choose the layout.
  • Tiled: Shows up to 16 people when no one is presenting. All participants appear in large tiles on the screen. The most active participants will appear to the side.
  • Spotlight: The current presentation or active participant will fill the window.
  • Sidebar: The active participant or presentation is shown in a large view, with additional participants shown to the side.

If you are having trouble following what is being said in your videoconference, you can turn on closed captions. Note that if you record a meeting, captions won’t appear when playing back the recording. If using Meet on a computer, closed captions are generally only offered in English unless you live in the “the Asia Pacific or EMEA regions,” in which case you can have captions in the following languages:

  • Spanish (Mexico)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Spanish (Spain)

For mobile, English is the only language offered.

To enable captions, click the Turn On Captions button [CC] , which can be found on the lower-right side of the Meet window. On mobile, the captions option should appear once you tap on the More icon (which looks like a vertical set of three dots). From the pop-up menu that appears, select Turn On Captions .

When on a Google Meet video call, you can select a participant and control different factors, including whether they are muted or pinned. Participants can also be removed from the call if desired. For personal meetings, only the event moderator can remove a participant.

Mute a participant

To mute another participant in Google Meet, do the following:

Windows and MacOS:  Move the mouse over the person’s thumbnail and then click the Mute icon (which looks like a microphone) when it appears on top of their thumbnail.

Android and iOS:  Tap on the meeting name at the top of the screen, then tap on the People tab, then tap on the three dots Menu icon next to the participant you want to mute and tap Mute .

Pin a participant

To pin a participant and keep their video in focus, do the following:

Windows and MacOS:  Click the Pin icon in the participant’s thumbnail.

Android:  Tap on the meeting name, select the People tab, tap on the Menu (three dots) icon of the person you want to pin, and then tap on Pin .

iOS:  Select and hold a person’s icon and then select the Pin icon on the pop-up menu.

Remove a participant

To remove a participant, do the following:

Windows and MacOS:  Move the mouse over the thumbnail of the participant you want to remove and click the Remove From Meeting icon. Click Remove again to confirm.

Android:  Tap on the meeting name, select the People tab, tap the Menu (three dots) icon next to the participant you want to remove, and then tap Remove and  Remove again.

iOS:  Navigate to People , select the person’s name, and then tap Remove From Meeting . Then tap Remove .

You can join a Google Meet videoconference using your telephone. However, dialing in is only supported in meetings created via a Google Workspace account.

To call into a Google Meet conference, you can call the number provided to you by the meeting organizer. Otherwise, when you visit the Google Meet website, you can navigate to the meeting and then select Join > Use a Phone For Audio. Then click Dial In and choose your country. After that, dial the number and enter the PIN. To disconnect from the call, click End Call .

Do you want to allow Google Meet to send you notifications in the Chrome web browser? Follow these steps on Google Chrome on your Mac or PC to enable Meet to send push notifications to you about calls and chat messages. You can also follow these settings to disable such notifications if desired.

Step 1 : Open Chrome. Step 2 : Click More (three vertical dots) and select Settings . Step 3 : Select Privacy and Security , then choose Site Settings . Step 4 : Click the Notifications option. Step 5 : Scroll to Meet.Google.Com in the list and then click More (three vertical dots). Step 6 : Click Allow .

If you want to view a previously-held Google Meet call later, you might want to consider recording it. It’s worth noting, however, that recording a meeting is only available to certain Google Workspace users . Once you have joined a meeting on a PC or Mac, click the More button (three vertical dots), and then click Record Meeting . Once you begin recording, participants will be notified. To end the recording, follow the previous steps, but click Stop Recording instead. Select Stop Recording again to confirm.

Once recorded, the meeting will be saved to the meeting organizer’s Google Drive. A link will automatically be sent out to the meeting organizer and the person who initiated the recording so that it can be downloaded. If you are unable to start a meeting recording, check this guide from Google , as there are multiple reasons the option may be unavailable.

If you have content on your computer screen that you wish to share with others, you can do so in a Google Meet videoconference. Once you want to begin sharing content, you can do so on a Mac or PC by clicking the Present Now button shown in the bottom-right corner. You will then be asked if you wish to share Your E ntire Screen , A Window , or A Tab . On the next screen, a thumbnail of your screen will appear: Select the portion of your screen you want to share, then click Share to confirm you want to present. To stop presenting, click the Stop Sharing button at the bottom of the screen.

Google Meet calls offer screen-sharing capabilities for Android devices as well. Begin by tapping the More button (three vertical dots), then select Share Screen . Tap Start Sharing to confirm you want to begin presenting. Tap Start Now . To stop presenting, tap Stop Sharing . In iOS, tap the same More icon, select Share Screen , and then tap Start Broadcast . To end sharing, just tap Stop Sharing > OK .

Google Meet allows users to customize video resolution, which is not a feature shared by most other video platforms. Lowering the resolution can help maintain the video connection if you have a weak or spotty Wi-Fi connection. You can always revert to a higher resolution when connectivity gets better to get a superior video picture. Changing the resolution to suit the connection is easy to do by following these steps below:

Step 1: During a Google Meet call, click the More icon and then Settings . Then select the Video tab on the left.

Step 2: You have two choices for the type of resolution you desire to manipulate. You can select either Send or Receive Resolution . Send Resolution is what your camera will send to other members of the call, while the Receive Resolution is what you see from the other callers.

Step 3: Select the resolution you wish to use from Standard Definition (360p) to High Definition (720p). In order to take advantage of your connection for receiving, there are extra choices to consider. On receiving, you can choose from an Audio Only option, a Standard Definition (360p) One Video at a Time option, or Auto.

You’ll have to take some time to analyze the ins and outs of Google Meet’s system to reap its full efficiency potential. Google Meet has some remarkably helpful keyboard shortcuts that will vastly improve your operational experience if you are willing to make the effort to learn them. There are built-in shortcuts on Google Meet that will optimize its usability and vastly improve your overall experience. These keyboard shortcuts will allow you to control aspects of Google Meet without ever having to remove your hands from your keyboard.

The most important shortcut on windows and Chrome OS is ( Shift + ?), which will open a pop-up that will show you all of the other possible keyboard shortcuts you can use in Meet. For MacOS, this shortcut is ( Command + ? ).

Here are a few shortcuts you can do in Meet:

  • Mute/unmute microphone: Ctrl + D or Command + D
  • Turn on or turn off camera: Ctrl + E or Command + E
  • Announce current speaker: Ctrl + Alt + S or Ctrl + Command + S

Have you seen new features coming to Google’s free apps for Google Workspace users? Or maybe you’ve seen the term "Google Workspace" while browsing the web. What is Google Workspace? Who can use it? What’s included? We're here to reveal all.

Here’s everything you need to know about Google Workspace. What is Google Workspace? Once known as G Suite, and before that, Gmail for Your Domain, the service is now called Google Workspace. This is a Google-owned service that provides productivity applications, collaboration tools, and cloud storage in one package for your large or small business. What’s included in Google Workspace?

As a Google Drive user, you may have heard or read about Google One. What was once simply paid additional storage for Google Drive is now known as Google One. Since 2018, Google Drive users have had the option to subscribe to the service for the added storage along with extra benefits.

You may be wondering if you need Google One, what the benefits of the service include, and how much it costs. We’re here to give you answers. Google One versus Google Drive

Google Hangouts is finally, really going away for everyone in November of 2022, and Google Chat is ready to step in as a full-featured replacement. Once reserved for Google Workspace subscribers, Chat generally offers more capabilities, so it's a good trade.

Every change involves learning how the new system works, and the fine details can sometimes be frustrating. Getting an early start is the best way to take control of the situation and manage the transition on your own schedule.

Google Meet finally gets an unmute shortcut

Google Meet is finally catching up to Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Google Meet is rolling out a new feature that will allow you to unmute yourself using a simple shortcut. This is similar to Zoom’s push-to-talk feature.

Before most virtual meetings commence, participants are often required (or choose) to mute their mics.

Then, in order to speak, they’d often have to go through a few clicks or presses to unmute. Now, Google Meet is about to change that with its new Unmute Shortcut feature.

The new Unmute shortcut feature will start rolling out in a few weeks.

Meet the new Google Meet Unmute shortcut

google meet transcription feature

The new feature was announced via a Google blog post as part of the Google Workspace Updates Weekly Recap for August 26, 2022.

According to the tech giant, starting September 9th, the new feature will be available to all Workspace users and users with Google accounts on all web browsers. A complete rollout will continue over the next two or so weeks.

However, it should be noted that the new unmute shortcut is off by default. Users will have to enable it manually via their Google Meet settings to be able to use it.

How to use Google Meet’s new Unmute shortcut

mac space bar

To unmute yourself during a Google Meet meeting, simply press and hold the spacebar key. To return to mute, simply release your hand.

By simplifying the process of unmuting yourself, this nifty little one-tap feature can help to improve participation during virtual meetings.

What’s more, it can automatically mute itself if you forget to do so after you’ve unmuted yourself. This way, you can focus more on the meeting than how to (un)mute yourself.

Google Meet getting better

The Unmute shortcut is similar to how walkie-talkies work and can be found on Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Other updates to Google Meet includes custom background and live translations.

Google meet, google meet can now ‘hide tiles without video’.

Avatar for Abner Li

Google Meet is rolling out a nice option to hide contact tiles that lack video so your grid isn’t inundated with profile pictures or letters.

“…users can change their layouts to avoid cluttering the screen if they are interested to only see the participants with their videos on.”

When a person that has video turned off speaks, their tile will appear on screen.

To enable, go to Settings > Change layout. The new “Hide tiles without video” toggle appears below the options for Auto, Tiles, Spotlight, and Sidebar, as well as the Tile density slider.

Whatever setting you pick only applies to your screen and “does not impact what other participants see or set for their layouts during the meeting.” It’s great if you’re projecting your screen on a larger display (for a meeting).

This feature is rolling out starting today “to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts.”

Google Meet hide tiles

Meanwhile , Google Meet is expanding its ultra-low latency live streaming option that provides “virtually lag-free streaming experience, significantly increased speaker video resolution, improved automatic camera cuts that focus on the most relevant speakers and content, and more.”

Previously, only the first 10,000 people in a 100,000-viewer stream got this experience. That’s now been boosted to the first 25,000, with everyone else on standard live streaming. In terms of availability:

Google Slides: How to delete a slide in your presentation

Google Slides offers tools to create an engaging presentation, but don't go overboard and draft a long pitch with dozens of slides. Incorporating the required elements while removing the unnecessary ones is essential to delivering a high-quality presentation. Eliminate unwanted slides and streamline your narrative in no time. Whether you use Google Slides on the web, iPhone, iPad, or Android phone , here's how to remove clutter from your presentation.

How to autoplay your Google Slides presentation

Delete a slide in google slides on the web.

Most Google Slides users prefer the web version to create and manage their presentations. Use the steps below to delete a slide on Google Slides.

  • Open Google Slides on the web, sign in with your account, and open a presentation.
  • Select the slide you want to remove.
  • Right-click it and click Delete from the context menu.

Google Slides doesn't ask for confirmation. It removes the slide from the presentation immediately. The context menu also offers other useful options, such as duplicate slides, skip slides, themes, backgrounds, and more. The trick works on Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks.

Remove multiple slides in Google Slides on the web

Do you want to remove several slides at once in Google Slides? You don't need to repeat the above steps, which can be time-consuming. You have several options to delete multiple slides in Google Slides.

  • Launch Google Slides and open the presentation you want to trim.
  • Keep pressing Ctrl and select the slides you want to remove. Right-click any selected slide and select Delete from the context menu.

You can also use the trick below to select multiple slides with a single click.

  • Open a presentation in Google Slides. If you have dozens of slides, switch to the Grid view in the lower-left corner.
  • Hold the Shift key and select the first and end slides of the range. Check all the selected slides. Right-click it and select Delete .

If you don't want to use a context menu, click the Delete or Backspace key on the keyboard to erase slides.

Remove a slide in Google Slides on Android

Google Slides offers robust mobile and tablet apps, which can be handy for making last-minute tweaks to your presentation. Let's start with Android and remove slides from your presentation.

  • Launch Google Slides on Android and open a presentation.
  • Tap a slide and select Edit slide .
  • Find all your slides preview at the bottom. Long tap a slide. Close
  • Tap the three-dot menu at the top and select Delete . Close

You can also select multiple slides from the bottom preview and delete them at once.

Remove a slide in Google Slides on an iPhone or iPad

If you use Google Slides on an iPhone or iPad, go through the steps below to remove unnecessary slides. We use an iPad as an example.

  • Open Google Slides on your iPad and select a presentation.
  • Slides open the first presentation page. Double-tap to open the preview in the sidebar.
  • Long tap a presentation and tap the bin icon in the upper-right corner.

To delete several slides at once, long tap a slide, select several other slides, and tap Delete . You'll find the Undo button in the same top menu.

Recover deleted slides on Google Slides

When you deal with dozens of slides in a presentation, you may accidentally delete a slide. Use the Edit > Undo button or press the Ctrl + Z keys on Windows or Cmd + Z on Mac to recover your deleted slides. You must rectify your error before closing the presentation. You can't close and reopen your presentation and use the Undo function to recover deleted slides.

Google Slides for mobile users can find the Undo button at the top. Check the screenshot below for reference.

Keep it short and crisp

Apart from removing slides, you can add a live timer to pace your presentation better. Since Google Slides doesn't offer a way to add a timer, check out our guide to learn third-party hacks to add a timer . If you use an eligible Google Workspace or Google One AI Premium plan, explore Gemini integration in Google Slides and create and insert accompanying images into your slides in seconds.
