This book focuses on not only solid mechanics problems (statics, dynamics, vibrations, dynamics of machines, strength of materials, engineering materials, composites, etc) but also on thermal sciences problems (thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, etc).

I bought this book for my MATLAB course and it’s really helped me. It was extremely useful in my linear algebra class, and I was able to use the book to help me apply MATLAB to GUI problems as well as higher level subjects like the Brayton cycle in thermodynamics.

This was a great textbook! I found it very helpful and useful to the course itself. It is one of the few textbooks that I think does a really good job of explaining everything that you need to know about MatLab. It is very comprehensive, and is easy to follow along and understand each step when trying to do something in MatLab. It is one of the best textbooks I’ve probably ever used. I had the pleasure of having the professor who wrote this textbook teach my class, and it was a great experience. I would recommend this textbook to anyone trying to learn anything about MatLab or who needed a refresher on the program.

Very useful resource, not only for the introductory level course, but 3&4000 level engineering courses; I referred to the book several times for Aerodynamics and Vibrations/Controls Lab, mostly for making plots.

I found the layout of the book to be well-planned, as you’re able to start learning-by-doing immediately using fundamental commands and functions with plenty of ‘FYI’ or ‘here’s another way to do it’ things thrown in along the way. There are several tables throughout the book as well as a good index I use often; the pages are flagged with sticky notes and I find it quicker than trying to filter through the weeds of an internet search.

Detailed examples are one of the best ways that I learn and there were so many of them that I felt like I truly understood what was going on.
