How to Easily Create a SlideShare Presentation

Ginny Mineo

Updated: January 06, 2021

Published: January 05, 2021

You know how hot visual content is, and you want to jump on board to enjoy the engagement, traffic, and leads that follow. But maybe you're not keen on writing a blog post, and you don't have the production resources to create videos. What to do? Create a SlideShare presentation.

marketer creating a slideshare presentation

What is a SlideShare presentation?

A SlideShare presentation is a presentation hosted on SlideShare.net, a hosting service for presentations and infographics that functions as the world's largest content sharing community. By submitting a SlideShare presentation, you have the opportunity to get your content in front of their more than 80 million monthly visitors.

I know, I know. You may have felt personally victimized by PowerPoint sometime in your career. When you open it up, you're hit with stark black Calibri font on a white background, killing any creative spark you may have felt. It's daunting enough to create a 10-slide deck to report your monthly marketing metrics -- never mind putting together slides that can be seen by the large volume of SlideShare users.

Well, there's good news: Creating a SlideShare presentation in PowerPoint doesn't have to be that daunting. With the right templates and tools at your disposal, you could easily create an engaging, visual presentation -- all without fancy design programs, huge budgets, or hiring contractors.

How to Create a Stunning  SlideShare Presentation in PowerPoint

To help you make a SlideShare of your own, we've created some free PowerPoint presentation templates for making awesome SlideShares. That way, your presentations will look great  and be a breeze to put together.

Download the free PowerPoint templates , scroll down, and we'll walk through how to use them. When we're done, you'll know exactly how to create a sexy presentation that gets featured on SlideShare's homepage. Ready? Let's dive in.

1. Get a feel for the types of presentations you can find on SlideShare.

Just as you'd master any other medium, it helps to consume other content in that medium to get an idea of the format and what works. Go to SlideShare.net and discover SlideShares that interest you. You can view them on the platform or download them to your computer and peruse them on your local machine.

SlideShare Presentation Download

Here's how to download a PowerPoint from SlideShare:

  • Sign up for a SlideShare account.
  • Navigate to the SlideShare presentation that you want to download.
  • Click the button labeled " Download ."
  • When asked if you want to clip the slide, click " Continue to download ."
  • Click " Save File " and then confirm by clicking " OK ."

Some may not download as a .ppt file, and some may not be available to download at all. However, this method works in all other cases.

2. Decide on fonts and a color scheme.

Before you get too caught up in the specifics of your storyline, figure out which fonts and color scheme you want to use. (If you're using our free templates , you can skip this part.)

When you're choosing fonts , consider two different ones to use throughout your presentation -- one for your headers and one for your body text. Your header font should be bold and eye-catching, and your body text font should be simple and easy to read. The contrast between the two will make it much easier for your SlideShare viewers to grasp your core messages.

For your color scheme, pick a scheme that will have enough contrast between colors to make colors stand out. Whether you decide to use two, three, or four different colors in your presentation is up to you -- but certain color combinations go together better than others.

Below is an example of what certain fonts and color combinations can look like. Notice how the header fonts stand out much more than the body? You can also see what different color palettes might look like: The top is monochromatic, the middle is complementary, and the bottom is analogous.

3 combinations of header and body fonts.

3. Outline main takeaways and crucial sub-bullets.

Next up: Creating an outline for your SlideShare's narrative. I like to treat SlideShare outlines just like I would blog posts -- you decide on the working title and main takeaways first. Then, you elaborate on those sections with a few supporting points.

For each of those components (title, section headers, and a few supporting points), create a slide. Below is an example of what those slides might look like:

title slide using hubspot powerpoint template

Supporting Points

supporting point slide using hubspot powerpoint template

You'll also want to create slide placeholders for the call-to-action and conclusion slides (you don't need to elaborate on them just yet).

Keep in mind that these slides should not be complex -- just a title and maybe a few details that you want to remember down the road. No paragraphs. No supporting images. Nothing that's not built into your template already.

4. Fill out the body of your presentation.

Then, fill in the meat of the content -- all the slides between the headers. Just make sure you're not relying too much on text. SlideShare is a primarily visual platform -- people are used to breezing through presentations. So if your presentation reads like an ebook, you should edit down the text and rely more heavily on visual content.

Another thing to remember is to switch up your format from slide to slide. Try doing a checklist slide followed by, say, a quote slide -- it keeps people on their toes as they flip through your presentation.

checklist slide in hubspot powerpoint template

5. Add introduction slides.

After you've created the majority of your SlideShare presentation, head back to the start. Wonder why we didn't begin here? It'll be much easier to tee up the bulk of your content if you already know what that content is about. In this step, just introduce what you just wrote about -- it'll be a breeze.

6. Wrap up the conclusion.

Then, head to the end of your SlideShare and wrap it up in a slide or two. There is nothing more jarring than going from a body slide right to a CTA slide. You only need a slide or two to conclude your presentation, but it should naturally tee up the CTA that you will have next.

7. Add a call-to-action slide.

At the verrrrrry end of your SlideShare, you want to keep your viewers engaged by providing a call-to-action. The CTA could be about downloading an ebook, attending an event, or even just visiting your website -- pretty much any CTA you'd like to include. Here are two CTA slide examples that we included in the SlideShare template:

cta slide in hubspot powerpoint template

8. Edit, edit, edit.

You're almost there! Next, you need to go through and edit your copy and design components. Try to get another coworker -- marketer or not -- to give it a once over. If you need some direction, you can use our ultimate editing checklist  to make sure you're catching everything you can.

9. Add "animated slides" and clickable links.

Though it's easy to create a presentation in PowerPoint and upload it immediately to SlideShare, not all of the same features will appear in both programs. As a result, there are two things you'll need to add in: "animated slides" and clickable links.

As far as slide animation goes, SlideShare does not support PowerPoint animations. This means that all of those smooth entrances you planned for your text boxes and objects go out the window once you upload your presentation to SlideShare. But, it's easy to manually introduce new elements on a series of slides to make it seem like it's "animated."

Once you've built in your animations, you'll also need to make sure people can actually click on the CTAs in your presentation.

10. Upload your PDF to SlideShare.

After you're finished with your clickable links, your presentation will be in a PDF format. At this point, you're ready for the final step: uploading your PDF to SlideShare. When you do this, you have the option to add a description and tags, and even schedule the SlideShare to go live at a certain time. Once your SlideShare is live, you should spend some time promoting it on your blog and social media accounts, and to your email lists. (For more SlideShare promotion tips, check out this blog post .)

Just follow this process when you need to create a SlideShare presentation, and you won't have to fear that blank PowerPoint template ever again.

13 Presentation Tools That Will Keep Your Audience Engaged

A great conference presentation requires skill, practice, and the right tools. Use these tools to start giving crowd-pleasing presentations.

13 Tools That Will Help You Deliver an Engaging Presentation

The difference between delivering a good presentation and a great presentation at an SEO or digital marketing conference  or another type of event often comes down to which tools you use.

The right tools can help you interact with your audience, keep your listeners interested, and avoid resorting to using boring bullet points on every slide.

To save you some time, here’s a round-up of 13 of the best presentation tools that will help keep your audience engaged.

Tools for Building Your Slides

prezi

Prezi is one of the most popular presentation tools on the web. It’s unique because it lets you show your audience a big-picture view of your presentation, then zoom in on individual slides.

Prezi’s strength lies in helping you organize your thoughts while keeping your key message front and center. Your audience will never end up wondering, “What’s the point of all this again?” in the middle of your presentation.

You can try the basic version of Prezi for free. If you want more functionality, they also offer a number of paid options.

canva

If you want your presentation to look gorgeous, but you don’t have the design chops to build it from scratch yourself, Canva might be the perfect tool for you.

With more than 8,000 templates to choose from, as well as tons of fonts and other layout options, Canva lets you customize your presentation any way you want. They also have an impressive library of images, many of which are free.

Canva’s free version gives you 1 GB of storage and lets you add up to 10 team members. For more features and flexibility, you can try out their paid version.

Google Slides

google-slides

Looking for a simple, straightforward way to build your presentation? Google Slides has you covered.

While Google Slides may not be as aesthetically pleasing as some of the other options on this list, it makes up for that in practicality. It offers plenty of templates to choose from, lets you insert images, charts, and other media with a few clicks, and – best of all – makes it easy for multiple people to access the presentation and work on it together.

Google Slides works on both PC and Mac. It’s free to use.

keynote

Keynote is a simple and popular presentation creator for iOS and Mac. It’s quick and intuitive to learn, with plenty of themes and features.

Like Google Slides, Keynote lets you collaborate with other team members, and you can work from any device, from an iPhone to a web browser. You can easily export Keynote presentations as PowerPoint or PDF files. PC users can even use Keynote by logging into iCloud.com.

Keynote is free to use.

slideshare

Don’t just forget about your presentation after you deliver it. Make it keep working for you by uploading it to SlideShare.

Anyone can view your slides on SlideShare, so it’s a useful way to increase your name recognition and content marketing efforts online without doing any extra work.

SlideShare is free and compatible with Keynote, PowerPoint, PDF, and OpenOffice presentations. You can learn more about how to find success with SlideShare here .

Tools for Making Charts, Graphs & Other Visuals

Agencyanalytics.

agencyanalytics

If your presentation includes information about your online marketing campaigns or your website’s performance, AgencyAnalytics is a good place to get visual representations of your data.

AgencyAnalytics offers trackers and analytics for just about any kind of data you might want to gather, including your website’s rank, backlinks, social analytics, and PPC analytics. It can also complete a full SEO audit. It turns that information into simple, attractive charts, graphs, and other images that are ideal for including in presentations.

AgencyAnalytics starts at $49/month.

oomfo

Using PowerPoint to create your presentation? Don’t limit yourself to the built-in charts and graphs PowerPoint provides. Oomfo, a free plug-in for PowerPoint, generates all kinds of interesting and beautiful graphs that aren’t included in PowerPoint, like waterfall and Pareto charts.

powtoon

Animations are a great way to illustrate points and hold your audience’s attention. With PowToon, it takes only minutes to create beautiful, professional-looking animations to use in your presentations (and anywhere else you want). You don’t need to have any animation experience – PowToon makes it easy by providing templates and scripts.

PowToon offers a free version and a paid version starting at $19.

VideoScribe

video-scribe

Another great animation tool is VideoScribe.

VideoScribe makes whiteboard-style videos, saving you the time, cost, and hassle of hiring an artist yourself. If you want to create a diagram or drawing to illustrate a point in your presentation, VideoScribe might be the right tool for the job.

VideoScribe starts at $12/month.

time-glider

Timelines make a great addition to presentations. If you want to include a timeline on one of your slides, check out Timeglider, a simple and beautiful timeline creator. It lets you add as many data points as you want, zoom in and out on events, and see how different events overlap with each other.

For individuals, the tool costs $5/month or $50/year.

Tools for Interacting with Your Audience

slide-dog

SlideDog is another useful presentation tool. For starters, it gets rid of the need to make sure all your files are the same type – SlideDog lets you incorporate images, videos, PDFs, PowerPoint files, Prezi files, and more into the same presentation.

It also helps you reach out to your audience. You can poll the audience, ask and answer questions in real time, and request feedback on your presentation. You can even broadcast a live stream of your slides, so people can follow your presentation remotely from their own devices.

The pro version of SlideDog (which includes all the interactive features) starts at $8.33 per month. You can also start with the basic free version that lets you test-drive pro features for 15 minutes at a time.

slido

Slido is another great tool for interacting with your audience. Listeners can ask questions from their own devices, and the audience can vote on the best questions they want you to answer.

People can ask questions anonymously if they want, helping shy audience members feel more confident about speaking up. Slido also lets you poll the audience and share your slides with them in PDF form.

You can try Slido out for free, but to unlock all its features, you’ll need to buy a plan.

todaysmeet

Encourage backchannel communication among your audience members by setting up a TodaysMeet room at the start of your presentation.

TodaysMeet is a private chat platform that was created for use in classrooms, but it’s equally useful for presentations. Your audience will stay engaged by talking to each other, and they can ask you questions directly through the room.

TodaysMeet is free to use.

The Takeaway

Giving a great presentation takes skill, practice, and the right tools. Whether you want to upgrade from PowerPoint, try out some new ways of incorporating media into your slides, or interact with your audience more, you’ll find something on this list to help you put together a people-pleasing presentation. Be prepared and use tools to help!

How to Share Presentations: 5 Apps and Tricks to Publish Slides Online

best-apps-share-presentation primary img

Documents get printed, websites get published, spreadsheets get filed away for accountants to double-check later. Presentations, though, get presented. After all the time you spend making slides in PowerPoint, Keynote, or other presentation apps, often you only show those slides during a meeting or talk, then save them in case you give that talk again.

Your slides can do the same for your business. Here are the best ways to get extra results from your presentation by putting it online.

→ Need an app to make that presentation? Jump over to our Best Presentation Apps roundup for 13 tools to make a full presentation in minutes, then come back here to learn how to share it.

The Simple Option: Embed Presentations From Your Presentation App

Google Slides Embed

The easiest way to share a presentation is with your presentation app’s built-in sharing and embed tools, something that comes with most online presentation apps today including Google Slides , PowerPoint Online , Keynote , Zoho Slides , Slides , Prezi , Microsoft Sway , Adobe Spark , Canva , Swipe , and Slidebean . Typically, these apps let you copy a sharing link from your presentation to let others view your presentation in that app online. Or, you can copy embed code to put an interactive version of your presentation in your blog or website, much like embedding a YouTube video in a page.

Tip : Deskset and Evernote Presentation Mode don’t include embeds, but you can export your presentation as a PDF, then embed it online using any of the tools below.

Another option is to stream your presentation during your talk, something Keynote Live , Zoho Show Broadcast , Slides Present Live , and Slidebean Live Mode all offer from their apps. Those tools stream your presentation in real-time and give you a link to share so viewer can watch on their own devices. Flip to the next slide in your deck, and everyone will see the new slide along with your online audience. Zoho Slides includes a chat panel for audience feedback, and Slidebean has an option to let the audience help control the slides for a multi-presenter presentation.

PowerPoint Office Presentation Service also lets you stream a PowerPoint presentation online through PowerPoint’s Windows apps—though not its web, mobile or Mac apps. Google Slides’ Hangouts On Air integration lets you stream a Google Slides presentation through YouTube, and here you could include audio from your presentation too. That option could work for any presentation app as long as you use Hangouts’ option to show your desktop.

Either way, you’ll need to promote the presentation yourself. These tools are a great option if you already have a popular blog and want to embed a copy of your presentation in it along with your own presentation notes.

Want to use Microsoft's PowerPoint to build and share your presentation? Learn everything you need to build and share your next presentation in our PowerPoint Online guide —including tips to sync all of your presentations to PowerPoint Online automatically.

The Social Option: Three Apps to Share Presentations

alt

Sharing a link to your presentation or embedding it in your site is a great way to let your followers know about your talk. Want to reach new people? Presentation sharing apps are the better option. They’re social networks built around presentations, for an easier way both to publish your presentation and help people find it.

Save a copy of your presentation in PowerPoint or PDF format. Then upload your presentation file to one of these apps, and add a name, description, category, and other details. You can then share a link to your presentation or embed it on your site, as with online presentation apps. Best of all, your presentation will now be publicly visible online, and should get new visitors through Google and search inside that presentation app. That makes your presentation a way to share your ideas with a far wider audience who might not otherwise have found your presentation on your blog.

Here are the best options from ten tools we’ve tried:

For clipping favorite slides from popular presentations

Slideshare upload options

SlideShare is the most popular way to share slides online. As part of Microsoft’s LinkedIn professional social network, publishing your presentation on SlideShare is another way to fill out your business profile. You’ll get a profile page on SlideShare with each presentation you’ve shared where people can follow you to get notified every time you publish a new presentation. And you can add presentations to your LinkedIn profile, alongside your job and education history.

You can upload a PDF or PowerPoint file to SlideShare, then add a description, category, and tags to help people discover it—along with additional presentation files or YouTube videos if you want. SlideShare will automatically copy the text out of your slides and include them under it to help your presentation show up in search results. You can also add links to slides, to send viewers to your website. Then, anyone who views your presentation can click through it online, download a PDF copy, or add a comment.

SlideShare includes one other handy tool: A Clip Slide button on presentations so you can save slides you like to your own collection. That’s a great way to build a library of inspiration from other presentations you find on SlideShare, with quotes and ideas you could then reference in your future presentations.

SlideShare Price: Free

Speaker Deck

For a presentation-focused landing page

Speaker Deck upload options

Speaker Deck is a simpler slide sharing tool, Vimeo to SlideShare’s YouTube. Share a presentation, and Speaker Deck will show it full-width in a preview page that focused on just your slides. Scroll down to see your presentation description, with a download button to save a PDF copy of the presentation if you’d like. And at the very bottom, you’ll find related presentations from Speaker Deck’s collection of featured presentations in the same category as your own.

You can’t search through Speaker Deck’s library of presentations, though you can look through them by category, with newer presentations showed first. Hover your mouse over a presentation thumbnail and move it from left to right to quickly peek at each of the slides. Then, if you want to embed your presentation in your site, add your presentation link to Embedly’s Speaker Deck site and copy its embed code. It’s a tad more hassle, but you get an ad-free page for your presentation that’s far more focused on your slides than what other sites offer.

Speaker Deck Price: Free

For embedding specific slides from a presentation

Scribd embed options screenshot

Scribd is designed for sharing PDF files, and today is mainly focused on a subscription eBook library, with everything from popular best sellers to self-published books to user guides and other free PDF uploads. That vast library means it’s a popular place to search for content—and if you publish your presentation there, it might get discovered when people search for what you talked about.

The best reason to share your presentation on Scribd, though, is that its Embed tool offers far more options. Use the Autosize embed option to match the embed to your slide size, then on down the embed page under Options , choose the Slideshow style to let viewers click between slides (with the default Scroll option, they’ll need to scroll down as in a PDF file to view next slides). You can also set which page—or slide—to show first, if you’d like to embed different parts of your presentation in separate blog posts, perhaps.

Scribd Price: Free to publish and view free content; subscription from $9.99/month to read unlimited paid eBooks

The Streaming Option: Present Your Slides Online in Real Time

Want to present online in real-time, where people can follow your presentation online during your talk? That’s another way to build buzz around your talk and expand your audience. Even if your presentation app doesn’t include a streaming tool, there are other options.

One way is to run a webinar, using Hangouts (as Google Slides offers for its streaming slides), GoToWebinar, Zoom, or other popular video streaming services. With those tools, you’d start a webinar stream, open your presentation in your normal presentation app, then share your screen using the webinar app’s screen share option. That will give you a full video of your talk, complete with audio and your slides. Check out our roundup of the best webinar apps to find the perfect tool for your next talk.

Or, you could use an app designed around streaming presentations—essentially standalone versions of the built-in streaming tools in Keynote and Zoho Slides. Here are two great options.

For a live stream of your slides with polls and videos

Presentain screenshot

For the closest alternative to the built-in streaming in presentation apps, Presentain lets you upload your presentation, present it, and stream the presentation in real-time to anyone with the link or embed. It’s best for letting people in the audience view your slides on their own device while you’re presenting. You can add animations to your slides online and use the web app to show the presentation on a projector—and to copy a link to share the live presentation with followers.

Then use the Presentain mobile app to start the presentation, switch slides, add polls where your audience can share their thoughts in real-time, and play YouTube videos embedded in your presentation. When you’re done, you can see stats about your presentation and polls online and save your presentation, upgrading your account only on the days you need to stream presentations.

Presentain Price: from $3 for one day of streaming unlimited presentations, so you can purchase a plan only for the days you’re presenting

SlidePresenter

For making a video of your full presentation

SlidePresenter

Want a full video of your presentation, complete with your slides, a video of you talking, and your audio? SlidePresenter is the app you need. Using its web app (which requires Flash or a recent version of Google Chrome), start by uploading your slides. Then enable your camera and microphone and start the presentation online, talking through your slides and pressing arrow keys to switch slides. Press your space bar when finished, and SlidePresenter will save a video of your talk that you can share online.

You could use it to record your talk while you’re giving it, but SlidePresenter is best to make a separate copy of your talk for your online audience. It’s an easy way to make a webinar of your presentation to share anytime.

SlidePresenter Price: Free 14 day trial

Next time you give a presentation, don’t save the file in your Documents folder and forget about it. Instead, using your presentation apps’ built-in sharing tools or one of these services, your presentation can be as valuable as a new video or blog post for your company with almost no extra work. It’s a great way to get the most out of your presentation efforts.

SlideShare is an excellent online platform where you can upload your content in the form of PowerPoint or PDF slides for others to read and download, or can read and download slides uploaded by others. It is a free of cost website. SlideShare is not limited to a specific subject or topic but rather host content about everything. Its search engine is very quick and get you a list of almost precise presentations that you look for in search query. Its intuitive interface makes it easy to use. It works equally well whether you are it in web browser or through its dedicated smartphone app.

SlideShare require you to have an account if you want to download a presentation, while no login is required if you are only reading te slides on the website, which is sometimes a problem for first time downloading users who have to get the files quickly. Other than this, it serves its purpose perfectly well.

SlideShare: A Visual and User-Friendly Platform for Sharing and Discovering Presentations

SlideShare is a useful tool for individuals and businesses looking to share and discover visual content. Its large library, user-friendly interface, and offline viewing capabilities make it a popular choice among learners and educators. However, its limited editing features and lack of interactivity may not meet the needs of all users.

1. SlideShare's interface is intuitive and easy to navigate, making it simple for users to find and view relevant content.2. With millions of presentations available, SlideShare offers a wealth of information across various topics and industries.3. SlideShare allows users to easily share content on other social media platforms, expanding its reach and promoting engagement.4. SlideShare provides detailed analytics on the performance of uploaded content, allowing users to track views and engagement.5. SlideShare allows users to download and save presentations for offline viewing, making it a great tool for on-the-go learning.

While SlideShare is great for sharing presentations, its editing features are limited compared to other presentation software. SlideShare does not allow for much interactivity between presenters and viewers, making it difficult to engage in live Q&A sessions or get feedback in real-time.

Used monthly for more than 2 years

Waste of precious time

It’s simple. They want $ to share presentations somebody else uploaded for free. We are students, and they want to leech the few bucks that university left in our pockets.

Slide content is great. But not curated, so why charge so much???

It is a waste of time. This was a great site years ago when uploading and sharing good educational ppt was an option. Now there are ads every 2 slides which makes it impossible to navigate. If there is an option to download a presentation for free, I couldn’t find it.

Amazing Platform form Sharing presentation Slides

Regarding Storage of presentation slides my rating is full. A wide range of presentations can be downloaded and used for personal presentations. So this has been helping students and employees for long time now.

SlideShare is one of the best source available online to get bulk of information in the form of slides or PPT Presentations. If someone needs any information in the form of presentation they can go for SlideShare without any doubt. It is helpful for people who often create Slides with amazing information, they can upload the slides and can share it any social media.

I tried to get slides for a specific topic that I wanted to present, but it was not available, which means you might sometime don't get specific required slides, but other than that I was able to get most of my required presentations.

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

  • Guy Kawasaki

presentation tools slideshare

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.

Migrating Some Legacy e-Governance Applications to Post-Quantum Cryptography

Description.

This paper speaks about our experience in adding support for post-quantum cryptography to a number of software components underlying and supporting the e-Governance processes of Estonia. In the paper, we briefly introduce our approach with state of the art of post-quantum engineering and our methodology. Then, we describe several Estonia’s e-Government-related projects and provide an experience report about our efforts to make them quantum safe. We present some engineering problems we had to tackle with, different project-specific approaches, etc. Overall, we believe that this paper would be beneficial for the general audience interested in practical adoption of post-quantum cryptography.

Google Cloud Next 2024: Everything announced so far

Google’s Cloud Next 2024 event takes place in Las Vegas through Thursday, and that means lots of new cloud-focused news on everything from Gemini, Google’s AI-powered chatbot , to AI to devops and security. Last year’s event was the first in-person Cloud Next since 2019, and Google took to the stage to show off its ongoing dedication to AI with its Duet AI for Gmail and many other debuts , expansion of generative AI to its security product line in addition to other enterprise-focused updates and debuts .

Don’t have time to watch the full archive of Google’s keynote event ? That’s OK; we’ve summed up the most important parts of the event below, with additional details from the TechCrunch team on the ground at the event. And that Tuesday’s updates aren’t the only things Google is making available to non-attendees, Wednesday’s developer-focused stream begins at 10:30 a.m. PT right here .

Google Vids

Leveraging AI to help customers develop creative content is something Big Tech is looking for, and Tuesday, Google introduced its version. Google Vids, a new AI-fueled video creation tool , is the latest feature added to the Google Workspace.

Here’s how it works: Google claims users can make videos alongside other Workspace tools like Docs and Sheets. The editing, writing and production is all there. You can also collaborate with colleagues in real time within Google Vids. Read more

Gemini Code Assist

After reading about Google’s new Gemini Code Assist , an enterprise-focused AI code completion and assistance tool, you may be asking yourself if that sounds familiar. And you would be correct. TechCrunch Senior Editor Frederic Lardinois writes that “Google previously offered a similar service under the now-defunct Duet AI branding.” Then Gemini came along. Code Assist is a direct competitor to GitHub’s Copilot Enterprise. Here’s why

Among the new features are voice prompts to kick off the AI-based “Help me write” feature in Gmail while on the go . Another one for Gmail includes a way to instantly turn rough email drafts into a more polished email. Over on Sheets, you can send out a customizable alert when a certain field changes. Meanwhile, a new set of templates make starting a new spreadsheet easier. For the Doc lovers, there is support for tabs now. This is good because, according to the company, you can “organize information in a single document instead of linking to multiple documents or searching through Drive.” Of course, subscribers get the goodies first. Google also seems to have plans to monetize two of its new AI features for the Google Workspace productivity suite. This will look like $10/month/user add-on packages. One will be for the new AI meetings and messaging add-on that takes notes for you, provides meeting summaries and translates content into 69 languages. The other is for the introduced AI security package, which helps admins keep Google Workspace content more secure. Read more

In February, Google announced an image generator built into Gemini, Google’s AI-powered chatbot. The company pulled it shortly after it was found to be randomly injecting gender and racial diversity into prompts about people. This resulted in some offensive inaccuracies. While we waited for an eventual re-release, Google came out with the enhanced image-generating tool, Imagen 2 . This is inside its Vertex AI developer platform and has more of a focus on enterprise. Imagen 2 is now generally available and comes with some fun new capabilities, including inpainting and outpainting. There’s also Google’s calling “text-to-live images” where you  can now create short, four-second videos from text prompts, along the lines of AI-powered clip generation tools like Runway ,  Pika  and  Irreverent Labs . Vertex AI Agent Builder

We can all use a little bit of help, right? Meet Google’s Vertex AI Agent Builder, a new tool to help companies build AI agents.

“Vertex AI Agent Builder allows people to very easily and quickly build conversational agents,” Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said. “You can build and deploy production-ready, generative AI-powered conversational agents and instruct and guide them the same way that you do humans to improve the quality and correctness of answers from models.”

To do this, the company uses a process called “grounding,” where the answers are tied to something considered to be a reliable source. In this case, it’s relying on Google Search (which in reality could or could not be accurate). Read more

Google's new AI video generator is more HR than Hollywood

Google vids punches up corporate presentations with ai..

For most of us, creating documents, spreadsheets and slide decks is an inescapable part of work life in 2024. What's not is creating videos. That’s something Google would like to change. On Tuesday, the company announced Google Vids, a video creation app for work that the company says can make everyone a “great storyteller” using the power of AI.

Vids uses Gemini , Google’s latest AI model, to quickly create videos for the workplace. Type in a prompt, feed in some documents, pictures, and videos, and sit back and relax as Vids generates an entire storyboard, script, music and voiceover. "As a storytelling medium, video has become ubiquitous for its immediacy and ability to ‘cut through the noise,’ but it can be daunting to know where to start," said Aparna Pappu, a Google vice president, in a blog post announcing the app. "Vids is your video, writing, production and editing assistant, all in one."

In a promotional video, Google uses Vids to create a video recapping moments from its Cloud Next conference in Las Vegas, an annual event during which it showed off the app. Based on a simple prompt telling it to create a recap video and attaching a document full of information about the event, Vids generates a narrative outline that can be edited. It then lets the user select a template for the video — you can choose between research proposal, new employee intro, team milestone, quarterly business update, and many more — and then crunches for a few moments before spitting out a first draft of a video, complete with a storyboard, stock media, music, transitions, and animation. It even generates a script and a voiceover, although you can also record your own. And you can manually choose photos from Google Drive or Google Photos to drop them seamlessly into the video.

It all looks pretty slick, but it’s important to remember what Vids is not: a replacement for AI-powered video generation tools like OpenAI’s upcoming Sora or Runway’s Gen-2 that create videos from scratch from text prompts. Instead. Google Vids uses AI to understand your prompt, generate a script and a voiceover, and stitch together stock images, videos, music, transitions, and animations to create what is, effectively, a souped up slide deck. And because Vids is a part of Google Workspace, you can collaborate in real time just like Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

Who asked for this? My guess is HR departments and chiefs of staff, who frequently need to create onboarding videos for new employees, announce company milestones, or create training materials for teams. But if and when Google chooses to make Vids available beyond Workspace, which is typically used by businesses, I can also see people using this beyond work like easily creating videos for a birthday party or a vacation using their own photos and videos whenever it becomes available more broadly

Vids will be available in June and is first coming to Workspace Labs, which means you’ll need to opt in to test it. It’s not clear yet when it will be available more broadly.
