Apple's Keynote App Explained: What It Is, And How To Use It

Keynote app

In many instances in life, there is a need for presentations. Perhaps you've been tapped to give a keynote at a big work thing, or maybe you just want a more constructive way to sell your partner on a particular vacation destination. Either way, you don't need a full suite of professional tools to make a quality presentation in this day and age. All you need is your iPhone and Apple's Keynote app.

The Keynote app, as its name may imply, is an app designed to create quick and easy slideshow presentations from the comfort of your iPhone. Not only can you assemble a series of professional-quality slides in a snap, you can also invite other users to collaborate on the project with you, as well as broadcast your slideshow over the internet. If you need to cook up a convincing slideshow in a hurry, then the Keynote app will be your workplace buddy.

Is Keynote free to use?

As a first-party Apple product, the Keynote app comes preloaded on all modern iPhone models. Neither downloading nor using it costs anything, and in the event you delete it from your phone, you can easily re-download it from the Apple App Store.

Not only can you make and use slideshow presentations in the Keynote app proper, but after you've made a presentation, you can also export it to a variety of popular presentation formats, including Microsoft PowerPoint , a PDF, a standalone movie, and even an animated GIF.

Any presentations that you put together in the Keynote app are saved locally, so if you ever need to run through them again, you can just whip out your phone and show it to someone, as well as broadcast it over Apple's Keynote Live service. Whether you're in the office or out on a stroll, you can put on a presentation at a moment's notice!

How to make a presentation

The Keynote app utilizes a similar framework to slideshow systems like PowerPoint, but much more simplified for the sake of easy use on a mobile device. It only takes a few minutes to set up a quality presentation.

Open the Keynote app on your iPhone.

Tap the + sign on the top-right of the Home screen to create a new presentation.

Select a theme for your presentation.

On a slide, double-tap on a box to enter text, or tap the top + button to add media (pictures, links, etc.).

Tap the bottom + button to add additional slides.

To add a transition between slides, tap the three dots on the top-right of the screen.

Tap Transitions & Builds.

Tap the slide you want to add a transition to.

Tap Add Transition.

Tap the transition type you want.

Your presentation is automatically saved with every edit, so you can just hit the back button on the top left to return to the main menu when you're done. If you like, you can also press the three dots to access the Export option, allowing you to save your presentation as a standalone PowerPoint, PDF, video, or one of several other file types.

How to share a presentation

If you're working on a group project, either in school or in the office, you can use the Keynote app to invite others to work on your presentation alongside you. In the presentation editor, just tap the button with a person and a + sign on it on the top of the screen to get an invitation you can send to others via SMS, email, direct link, or social media. Anyone you send this link to will be able to see and make changes to your presentation.

If you want to share your finished presentation online, then it's time to broadcast with Keynote Live.

Open the Keynote app.

Select a presentation on the main menu.

Tap the three dots on the presentation's overview to open the More menu.

In the More menu, tap Use Keynote Live.

Tap Invite Viewers to send streaming invites to users on your iPhone contact list.

Tap More options to get a link you can send directly to others, as well as set a password for your presentation.

Once viewers have joined your presentation, tap the Play Now button at the bottom of the Keynote Live screen to begin streaming.

You can invite up to 100 users to view a single Keynote Live presentation. Anyone who follows the link will get a web version of your presentation stream, so they don't need to be using an iPhone themselves to see it.

'What is Keynote on iPhone?': How to use the Keynote app on your iPhone to make slideshow presentations on the go

  • Keynote is a presentation-creation app for your iPhone that can be used by students, professionals, and anyone who needs to make a slideshow.
  • The Keynote app comes preloaded on your iPhone , and can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store if you delete it.
  • Those familiar with Microsoft's PowerPoint program will quickly pick up on the value and the ease of using the iPhone's Keynote app.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories .

To Microsoft Word, you have Apple's Pages. To Microsoft's Excel, you have Apple's Numbers. And for PowerPoint, the Apple counterpart is Keynote, the presentation app that comes preloaded on your iPhone (and is free from the App Store if you deleted it).

Keynote is a presentation-design program perfect for everything from a report you're giving in school, to a proposal you want to share with your colleagues at the office. And once you spend some time with Keynote, you'll realize it's really not that hard to use.

Iphone 11 (from $699.99 at best buy), how to use keynote on your iphone.

To create a new Keynote project, open the Keynote app , which is a blue box with a white image of a lectern inside it.

Tap the "Create Presentation" icon — it's the plus (+) symbol in the top-right — then select the theme you wish to use. You can always use your own images in the slides, so don't be thrown off by the stock images.

Once inside the new project, double-tap in the various boxes on the first slide to add text or media. You can simply begin typing after double tapping, or hit the plus symbol at the top to add images, graphs, video, audio, drawings, and more.

To add a new slide, hit the plus symbol in a blue box at the bottom left corner of the screen. Slides can always be dragged into new order by tapping, holding, and moving them up or down in the pane on the left.

To add transitions between your slides (and alter various other settings) tap the three little dots in a circle in the top-right corner and select "Transitions and Builds." Then tap the slide to which you want to add a transition, tap "Add Transition," and then make your selection.

Using Keynote can be a collaborative process; just hit the "Add People" button at the top of the screen (it looks like a silhouette of a stick figure's head and shoulders in a circle), and invite others to work with you.

Once you're happy with your Keynote presentation, it's time to export it. Tap those three dots at the top-right and select "Export." You can then choose the type of file you'd like to create, which can then be shared with others, saved to your phone, sent to Google Drive, and so on.

make presentation on iphone

Slideshow presentations can be notoriously snooze-worthy. Nearly all of us can remember sitting patiently while someone flipped through a seemingly endless stream of slides. Most people have realized that when it comes to presentations, less is more and being visual is better than putting all of our bullet points in each slide.

Our tools for creating presentations have also taken a big leap forward, and we can even create top-notch slideshows on iPhones and iPads, including the use of effects, transitions, video clips , background music, narration and captions.

Here are nine presentation apps for iOS that can get the job done.

make presentation on iphone

Keynote, part of the iWork suite of office and productivity apps for iPhone and iPad, is Apple's entry into the presentations software space, and most impressively — the one used by the late Steve Jobs himself. With Keynote you can make presentations for work or for school, for conferences or for pitches, for conceptual design or story boarding of any kind, and much, much more.

Part of what makes Keynote appealing over other presentation apps are the wealth of professional and modern templates and transitions it houses. The iPhone and iPad versions are easy to use and allow anyone to create a great looking presentation in very little time. Regardless what your presentation needs are, odds are you'll find something suitable for your project in Keynote.

iCloud users can sync their Keynote documents between iPhone, iPad, and with Keynote for Mac , as well as share and collaborate online via iWork on iCloud on iCloud.com. You can start a presentation on your iPad and pick up right where you left off on your Mac. No folders to weed through and organize, iCloud puts all your iWork documents where they need to be.

When it comes time to share your presentation with others, you can save in many different formats including .ppt and .pptx so anyone using Microsoft Office won't have compatibility issues. The opposite holds true as well and Keynote users can open Microsoft PowerPoint documents just as easily. Export to PDF is also supported. For those that are not completely sold on Keynote for iPad just yet, give Office for iPad a hard look too before deciding which one is right for your needs.

Keynote is $4.99 but is made free to any new iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad owner.

How to Make a Slideshow on iPhone: 3 Methods

Want to make a slideshow on your iPhone? Here are the three best ways to do it.

Whether if it’s on a vacation or simply in daily life, you have probably taken a lot of photos over the years, and now they’re all accumulated in your iPhone’s Photos app. Every one of them is too precious to delete. By making a slideshow, you can enjoy your pictures from a different perspective and share the joy of them with your family and friends.

Let’s look at three ways to make a slideshow on your iPhone using your device’s built-in methods. We’ll also introduce a top-rated app you can use if you want full control over your slideshow’s customization.

1. How to Make a Slideshow on Your iPhone Using the Photos App

Using the Photos App is the quickest way to create a slideshow on your iPhone. Here’s how:

  • Go to the Photos app.
  • Tap to Select to select the images and videos you want to use to make a slideshow.
  • Tap the Share icon.
  • Select Slideshow .

If you have thousands of photos on your iPhone, scrolling up and down endlessly to find related pictures can be tedious. You can filter your photos by selecting the Library tab and choosing Years , Months , or Days for easier navigation.

Another method is to use the Search tab. Using AI technology, your iPhone already organizes some of your photos into albums based on the image subject—for example, cats. You can also type keywords into the search bar to obtain the relevant pictures.

As you select photos for your slideshow, it’s best to gradually add them to a new album for this specific purpose. You wouldn’t want to start selecting pictures all over again should you accidentally deselect pictures or. worse, involuntarily exit the Photos app.

How to Customize Your Slideshow in Your iPhone’s Photos App

By default, your iPhone chooses the Origami theme and soundtrack for your slideshow. Origami gives a jingling, relaxing vibe. The other theme options available are Dissolve, Magazine, Push, and Ken Burns.

To customize your slideshow, tap the playing slideshow to bring up the bottom menu. Next, select Options to view the theme and soundtrack choices. You can also change the speed of your slideshow using the turtle-rabbit speed slider.

How to Save Your Slideshow in Your iPhone’s Photos App

So far, there’s no way to save a slideshow you created using this direct Photos app method. A workaround is to record your iPhone screen as the slideshow is playing. Then, trim off the imperfect start and end.

In the Photos app, you can only save a Memories slideshow. A Memories slideshow is a curated collection of photos your iPhone creates, such as “Year in Review.” Check out our complete guide on how to create a Memories slideshow on your iPhone .

2. How to Make a Slideshow on Your iPhone Using iMovie

iMovie is the default video editing software on Apple’s devices. You might already have iMovie preinstalled on your iPhone, but if not, you can download it for free from the App Store . Using iMovie allows greater customization for your slideshow.

Here’s how to create a slideshow in your iPhone’s iMovie app:

  • On iMovie’s main screen, select Create Project (+) .
  • Choose Movie .
  • Select all the pictures you want to include in your slideshow.
  • Then, tap Create Movie .

You can add more photos in-between the others by following these instructions:

  • Drag the playhead (the white line) to the position where you want to add a new photo or video.
  • Tap Add (+) .
  • Select Photos , Albums , or Videos . This depends on where your content is located.

Next, let’s cover the basic customizations you can apply: photo display duration, theme, and transition effects.

How to Change the Photo Display Duration in iMovie

In iMovie, you can shorten or lengthen the time in which a photo is displayed on the screen. Here’s how:

  • Tap the photo to select it.
  • Drag the yellow handles to make the photo display duration shorter or longer.

How to Customize the Slideshow Theme and Audio in iMovie

To customize how your slideshow appears:

  • Tap anywhere on the black background to deselect your photo.
  • Tap the Settings icon at the bottom right.
  • Choose from a variety of themes, such as Travel, Playful, and Bright.
  • To use the theme’s corresponding soundtrack, turn on Theme Soundtrack .

How to Change Slideshow Transition Effect in iMovie

To choose different transitions to use between photos in your slideshow:

  • Tap to select the existing transition effect. This brings up a horizontal list of transition effects.
  • iMovie has common effects like Slide, Wipe, and Fade.
  • You can also change the transition duration from 0.5 to 2.0 seconds.

How to Save a Slideshow in Your iPhone’s iMovie App

Once you’ve completed your slideshow, here’s how to save it:

  • In your project, tap Done in the top-left corner.
  • Select Save Video . iMovie will export and save your slideshow in the Photos app.

3. How to Make a Slideshow on Your iPhone Using Splice

With more than 200,000 ratings, Splice is one of the most popular video-editing apps for iOS. You can download it for free from your iPhone’s App Store. Splice may suit you best if you already have some experience in video editing and prefer full control over your slideshow.

Tap New Project to start adding images and videos to your slideshow. Once all your media is loaded, there is a wide range of customization options you can apply. For example, in terms of transition effects, you can find twice the variety in Splice compared to iMovie.

You can also adjust each individual image setting, add text and captions, or incorporate interesting sounds from Splice’s audio library.

Download: Splice (Free, in-app purchases available)

Create Beautiful Slideshows on Your iPhone

There are three main ways to make a slideshow on your iPhone. First, you can use the Photos app. Second, check out Apple’s built-in video editing app, iMovie. Third, explore the App Store and use third-party apps like Splice to create your slideshow.

Thanks to our love of telling stories and sharing moments in life, there are countless slideshow apps you can use to make a slideshow on your iPhone.

How to Set Up a Presentation Using Your iPhone or iPad

author image

Table of Contents

These days, we’re more reliant than ever on mobile devices for productivity and connectivity, even in work scenarios like conferences and seminars. It’s easy and convenient to power your presentations with an iPhone or iPad, but you might not know how to connect to an external display.

We’ll explain how to mirror a small screen to a more prominent display such as a smart TV, projector or monitor, whether you’re prepping for a presentation in a smart office or streaming content at home.

How to give presentations from your iPhone or iPad

Bring your mobile presentation to life by connecting your iOS device to an external display. Several technologies can power mobile presentations on a larger screen, including AirPlay, which allows streaming and screen mirroring.

We’ll explain how sending your presentation to an external display works for the most common devices you’ll encounter.

1. Send an iOS presentation to an Apple TV.

Mirroring your presentation from an iPad or iPhone to an Apple TV is straightforward. Here’s how it works:

  • Power on your Apple TV. Make sure it’s on the same Wi-Fi network as your iOS device.
  • On your iOS device, load the presentation or content you want to share to the Apple TV.
  • Tap the AirPlay icon . (It looks like a rectangular screen with a triangle at the bottom.)
  • Choose your Apple TV .
  • Your content will begin. To stop streaming, tap the AirPlay icon in the app you’re streaming from.

2. Send an iOS presentation to a smart TV.

If you have an internet-enabled smart TV, you have a few options, depending on your TV model.

AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs

If you have an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, such as select Samsung models, LG TVs and Roku TVs, the process is nearly the same as using AirPlay with an Apple TV:

  • On your AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, go to Settings > General > Apple AirPlay Settings and enable AirPlay .
  • Tap the AirPlay icon .
  • Select your AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  • Play your presentation or content.

Smart TVs that aren’t AirPlay 2-compatible

If your internet-connected smart TV isn’t AirPlay compatible, consider a third-party mirroring app like AllCast. AllCast is an iOS app that wirelessly streams your phone’s content to an external monitor. Here’s how it works:

  • Download AllCast from the App Store on your iOS device.
  • Launch AllCast and tap the broadcast icon . It will find compatible devices on your network.
  • Select your smart TV.

AllCast is also compatible with Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV devices, Apple TV, Microsoft Xbox consoles, and smart TVs from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and more. While AllCast is free to download and use, in-app purchases allow you to remove ads and unlock features.

3. Send an iOS presentation to a Mac.

If you want to send your iOS presentation to a larger Mac, the process is simple.

  • Make sure your iOS device and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On your iOS device, open the Control Center.
  • Tap Screen Mirroring .
  • Select your Mac.
  • You may see an AirPlay passcode on your Mac screen. If so, enter the code on your iOS device.

4. Send an iOS presentation to a non-smart TV or projector.

Working with an old-school TV or a projector that doesn’t connect to the internet? Not a problem. Use a connector or adapter to achieve the same effect as mirroring.

Connect to a monitor with an adapter.

If you have access to a monitor and you don’t want to connect wirelessly, opt for an old-fashioned cable adapter. Apple sells a Lightning digital AV adapter with an additional power port (so you can charge your iPhone or iPad while you present from it).

At $49, Apple’s adapter is pricey for a one-off presentation, but if you travel a lot, the purchase could be worthwhile. Using Wi-Fi across various venues can be a gamble. If you’re presenting to clients, you may not want to roll the dice.

Connect to a projector with an adapter.

Many modern projectors have proprietary apps to connect to wirelessly from mobile devices, but they vary drastically in quality, availability and compatibility. If you want to be certain of your ability to connect to a specific projector, an adapter is an excellent option.

Newer projectors typically have HDMI and VGA ports. If you have a choice, opt for an HDMI adapter because it’ll be more versatile. If you need to connect to an older projector, you will probably have to connect using a VGA adapter; Apple sells one (also priced at $49) with an added charging port, so you don’t run out of juice.

FAQs about sending an iOS presentation to an external display

If you’re having trouble connecting your iPad or iPhone to a monitor or have other questions about creating a great presentation, you’ll find commonly asked questions below.

What is screen mirroring?

Screen mirroring is the process of displaying the contents of a device like an iPad or iPhone on another device, such as a television, external monitor or projector. Screen mirroring is sometimes confused with screencasting, which is the process of recording everything happening on your screen.

Why do people use screen mirroring?

Screen mirroring is helpful anytime you want to share small-screen content on a big screen. People use screen mirroring in both personal and professional settings, including watching entertainment and running through presentations.

Can you screen mirror without Wi-Fi?

The only way to screen mirror without Wi-Fi is to use a cable connection or adapter. Screen mirroring apps won’t work if you can’t access Wi-Fi. In fact, if you’re using a screen mirroring app, the device you’re mirroring from and the device you’re mirroring to have to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

One significant benefit of buying an HDMI adapter is that you no longer need to worry about Wi-Fi access when mirroring – you can plug in the cord and get started.

What are the best iPad apps for creating presentations?

There are many excellent presentation tools for all platforms. Keynote  is Apple’s answer to PowerPoint, and it’s a go-to among professionals who use Apple devices because it’s a free download from the App Store. You can also use PowerPoint on Apple devices via the PowerPoint mobile app. If you want to try something different,  Google Slides  is the current black horse in the presentation software arena, and it’s also available through Apple’s App Store.

Do I need an adapter to connect my iPad to my TV?

If you have Apple mobile devices and want to share content with a broader audience, an adapter is an excellent option. An adapter’s main advantage is allowing you to connect to nearly any external monitor. Adapters are helpful for people who want to mirror to an older TV or monitor without internet connectivity, as well as anyone who frequently hosts presentations in places without open Wi-Fi networks or smart monitors.

Can you screen mirror with an Android device?

Yes. Android and iOS both support business uses , such as screen mirroring for presentations. You can mirror your Android, PC or Google device on an external screen or projector with a built-in app, Bluetooth, a third-party app or an HDMI adapter. If you go down the app and Bluetooth route, ensure that your mobile device and the external monitor are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

How to make a video slideshow on your iPhone using Photos

Karen Haslam

There is more than one way to edit videos recorded on your iPhone to make a movie to share with friends and family, but one of our favouites is using the Memories feature in Photos.

However, despite Apple’s usual tendency to make features easy to use and discover, it has to be said that Memories is one of the best hidden tools on the iPhone and iPad.

This is partly because Apple just wants to do everything for you. Without you even asking Photos will take a collection of photos and videos and present you with a beautifully edited video montage. Except that most of the time our montages were spoiled by a screen shot of a bus timetable taken on the same day, or a video clip that showed a baby crying rather than laughing.

In this article we will look at:

  • How to make a Memories video on iPhone
  • How to add photos to Memories on the iPhone
  • How to use Memories to make a slideshow on your iPhone
  • and more…

Luckily it is possible to edit and finesse your iPhone Memories to make something you’d be proud to share on Facebook. Here’s how.

How to edit Memories in Photos

Memories are montages that combine your photos and videos. You could use the feature to make a video and photo montage of a holiday, or just add photos to make a beautiful slideshow that you can share with family and friends. Here’s how to choose the photos and video clips you want to appear.

  • Open Photos
  • Gather the images and videos you wish to be include into an Album (tap Select, tap on all the images and video you want to include, tap on Add To, Tap New Album, Choose a name and Tap Save).
  • Go to the Albums view and find the Album you just created. (Tap on Albums, bottom left of the menu).
  • In iOS 14 tap on the … in the top right (Tap on the > beside your Album name in older iOS versions)

Play Memory Movie iPhone

  • When you tap the Play icon your movie will start to play – but you can change the images and movies included, which you may want to do if you find that not all the images and video you selected are included or if you don’t like the music that plays.

Add Memory

  • The next screen gives you options to edit the Title, Title Image, Music, Duration, and Photos & Videos.
  • You could tap on Duration to increase the duration – this may mean that more of your videos and photos are included in your Memory. However, we’d suggest that if you want to be able to tweak things yourself then you should go straight to Photos & Videos.

Add photos and video to memory movie

  • To see all the images and photos in the album tap on the + and on the next screen you will see which photos and videos are selected and which aren’t. Assuming you wish to use them all, select all the items here and tap Done.

make presentation on iphone

  • You can flick through all the video clips and photos in this view and if you decide you want to remove any, just tap on the bin. Be careful not to accidentally delete something because if you want to add it again will lose what you have already edited!
  • Once you have finished editing, tap the
  • If you felt that the music wasn’t really in keeping with your video montage, tap on Music. You will be able to choose from various Soundtracks that Apple provides (these are surprisingly good), your own music collection, or None (if you don’t want music to be included). We’d recommend having a look at the Soundtracks on offer, so tap on Soundtracks.b

Music Choices Memories iPhone

  • Tap on a Soundtrack to listen to it while it downloads. If you decide on another then tap on that, give it a listen and tap on it if you decide that’s the one. Tap on the
  • If you wanted to change the title of your video, or the Title Style, then tap on Title. You can edit the words on the next screen and choose the font and size of the title from a selection here.
  • Finally, you can see how the montage will look if you view it in Portrait or Landscape mode – the phone will automatically switch the view depending on how you hold your phone. So if until now you have been viewing the video in portrait rather than landscape, this is where to see what it would look like in landscape. Our only criticism is it’s either or, you can’t choose to show some photos and video in landscape and others in portrait.
  • Now you have finished editing, tap on Done. Tap on the play button to view your masterpiece.
  • If you are ready to share your video tap on the Share icon (the one with the arrow coming out of a box). Save Video is a good option if you want to save the final video montage in an easy to share format. You will see that your will display a dialog box stating that it is Exporting Movie. The finished movie can be found in Photos.
  • Locate the movie in Photos (it will be the last thing added to All Photos). To share this to Facebook or similar tap on the Share icon again and choose your means of sharing.

Apple also makes an app called Clips, now in version 3 . Here’s how to use Clips . And the iMovie app is also available for the iPhone and iPad – here’s How to use iMovie on iPhone .

6 ways to create more interactive powerpoint presentations.

Engage your audience with cool, actionable features.

Quick Links

  • Add a QR code
  • Embed Microsoft Forms (Education or Business Only)
  • Embed a Live Web Page
  • Add Links and Menus
  • Add Clickable Images to Give More Info
  • Add a Countdown Timer

We've all been to a presentation where the speaker bores you to death with a mundane PowerPoint presentation. Actually, the speaker could have kept you much more engaged by adding some interactive features to their slideshow. Let's look into some of these options.

1. Add a QR code

Adding a QR code can be particularly useful if you want to direct your audience to an online form, website, or video.

Some websites have in-built ways to create a QR code. For example, on Microsoft Forms , when you click "Collect Responses," you'll see the QR code option via the icon highlighted in the screenshot below. You can either right-click the QR code to copy and paste it into your presentation, or click "Download" to add it to your device gallery to insert the QR code as a picture.

In fact, you can easily add a QR code to take your viewer to any website. On Microsoft Edge, right-click anywhere on a web page where there isn't already a link, and left-click "Create QR Code For This Page."

You can also create QR codes in other browsers, such as Chrome.

You can then copy or download the QR code to use wherever you like in your presentation.

2. Embed Microsoft Forms (Education or Business Only)

If you plan to send your PPT presentation to others—for example, if you're a trainer sending step-by-step instruction presentation, a teacher sending an independent learning task to your students, or a campaigner for your local councilor sending a persuasive PPT to constituents—you might want to embed a quiz, questionnaire, pole, or feedback survey in your presentation.

In PowerPoint, open the "Insert" tab on the ribbon, and in the Forms group, click "Forms". If you cannot see this option, you can add new buttons to the ribbon .

As at April 2024, this feature is only available for those using their work or school account. We're using a Microsoft 365 Personal account in the screenshot below, which is why the Forms icon is grayed out.

Then, a sidebar will appear on the right-hand side of your screen, where you can either choose a form you have already created or opt to craft a new form.

Now, you can share your PPT presentation with others , who can click the fields and submit their responses when they view the presentation.

3. Embed a Live Web Page

You could always screenshot a web page and paste that into your PPT, but that's not a very interactive addition to your presentation. Instead, you can embed a live web page into your PPT so that people with access to your presentation can interact actively with its contents.

To do this, we will need to add an add-in to our PPT account .

Add-ins are not always reliable or secure. Before installing an add-in to your Microsoft account, check that the author is a reputable company, and type the add-in's name into a search engine to read reviews and other users' experiences.

To embed a web page, add the Web Viewer add-in ( this is an add-in created by Microsoft ).

Go to the relevant slide and open the Web Viewer add-in. Then, copy and paste the secure URL into the field box, and remove https:// from the start of the address. In our example, we will add a selector wheel to our slide. Click "Preview" to see a sample of the web page's appearance in your presentation.

This is how ours will look.

When you or someone with access to your presentation views the slideshow, this web page will be live and interactive.

4. Add Links and Menus

As well as moving from one slide to the next through a keyboard action or mouse click, you can create links within your presentation to direct the audience to specific locations.

To create a link, right-click the outline of the clickable object, and click "Link."

In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, click "Place In This Document," choose the landing destination, and click "OK."

What's more, to make it clear that an object is clickable, you can use action buttons. Open the "Insert" tab on the ribbon, click "Shape," and then choose an appropriate action button. Usefully, PPT will automatically prompt you to add a link to these shapes.

You might also want a menu that displays on every slide. Once you have created the menu, add the links using the method outlined above. Then, select all the items, press Ctrl+C (copy), and then use Ctrl+V to paste them in your other slides.

5. Add Clickable Images to Give More Info

Through PowerPoint's animations, you can give your viewer the power to choose what they see and when they see it. This works nicely whether you're planning to send your presentation to others to run through independently or whether you're presenting in front of a group and want your audience to decide which action they want to take.

Start by creating the objects that will be clickable (trigger) and the items that will appear (pop-up).

Then, select all the pop-ups together. When you click "Animations" on the ribbon and choose an appropriate animation for the effect you want to achieve, this will be applied to all objects you have selected.

The next step is to rename the triggers in your presentation. To do this, open the "Home" tab, and in the Editing group, click "Select", and then "Selection Pane."

With the Selection Pane open, select each trigger on your slide individually, and rename them in the Selection Pane, so that they can be easily linked to in the next step.

Finally, go back to the first pop-up. Open the "Animations" tab, and in the Advanced Animation group, click the "Trigger" drop-down arrow. Then, you can set the item to appear when a trigger is clicked in your presentation.

If you want your item to disappear when the trigger is clicked again, select the pop-up, click "Add Animation" in the Advanced Animation group, choose an Exit animation, and follow the same step to link that animation to the trigger button.

6. Add a Countdown Timer

A great way to get your audience to engage with your PPT presentation is to keep them on edge by adding a countdown timer. Whether you're leading a presentation and want to let your audience stop to discuss a topic, or running an online quiz with time-limit questions, having a countdown timer means your audience will keep their eye on your slide throughout.

To do this, you need to animate text boxes or shapes containing your countdown numbers. Choose and format a shape and type the highest number that your countdown clock will need. In our case, we're creating a 10-second timer.

Now, with your shape selected, open the "Animations" tab on the ribbon and click the animation drop-down arrow. Then, in the Exit menu, click "Disappear."

Open the Animation Pane, and click the drop-down arrow next to the animation you've just added. From there, choose "Timing."

Make sure "On Click" is selected in the Start menu, and change the Delay option to "1 second," before clicking "OK."

Then, with this shape still selected, press Ctrl+C (copy), and then Ctrl+V (paste). In the second box, type 9 . With the Animation Pane still open and this second shape selected, click the drop-down arrow and choose "Timing" again. Change the Start option to "After Previous," and make sure the Delay option is 1 second. Then, click "OK."

We can now use this second shape as our template, as when we copy and paste it again, the animations will also duplicate. With this second shape selected, press Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, type 8 into the box, and continue to do the same until you get to 0 .

Next, remove the animations from the "0" box, as you don't want this to disappear. To do this, click the shape, and in the Animation Pane drop-down, click "Remove."

You now need to layer them in order. Right-click the box containing number 1, and click "Bring To Front." You will now see that box on the top. Do the same with the other numbers in ascending order.

Finally, you need to align the objects together. Click anywhere on your slide and press Ctrl+A. Then, in the Home tab on the ribbon, click "Arrange." First click "Align Center," and then bring the menu up again, so that you can click "Align Middle."

Press Ctrl+A again to select your timer, and you can then move your timer or copy and paste it elsewhere.

Press F5 to see the presentation in action, and when you get to the slide containing the timer, click anywhere on the slide to see your countdown timer in action!

Now that your PPT presentation is more interactive, make sure you've avoided these eight common presentational mistakes before you present your slides.

Of course! That’s the point! Slidesgo is all for customization since day one, so you’ll be able to make any changes to presentations generated by the AI. We humans are irreplaceable, after all! Thanks to the online editor, you can do whatever modifications you may need, without having to install any software. Colors, text, images, icons, placement, the final decision concerning all of the elements is up to you.

Can I add my own images?

Absolutely. That’s a basic function, and we made sure to have it available. Would it make sense to have a portfolio template generated by an AI without a single picture of your own work? In any case, we also offer the possibility of asking the AI to generate images for you via prompts. Additionally, you can also check out the integrated gallery of images from Freepik and use them. If making an impression is your goal, you’ll have an easy time!

Is this new functionality free? As in “free of charge”? Do you mean it?

Yes, it is, and we mean it. We even asked our buddies at Wepik, who are the ones hosting this AI presentation maker, and they told us “yup, it’s on the house”.

Are there more presentation designs available?

From time to time, we’ll be adding more designs. The cool thing is that you’ll have at your disposal a lot of content from Freepik and Flaticon when using the AI presentation maker. Oh, and just as a reminder, if you feel like you want to do things yourself and don’t want to rely on an AI, you’re on Slidesgo, the leading website when it comes to presentation templates. We have thousands of them, and counting!.

How can I download my presentation?

The easiest way is to click on “Download” to get your presentation in .pdf format. But there are other options! You can click on “Present” to enter the presenter view and start presenting right away! There’s also the “Share” option, which gives you a shareable link. This way, any friend, relative, colleague—anyone, really—will be able to access your presentation in a moment.

Discover more content

This is just the beginning! Slidesgo has thousands of customizable templates for Google Slides and PowerPoint. Our designers have created them with much care and love, and the variety of topics, themes and styles is, how to put it, immense! We also have a blog, in which we post articles for those who want to find inspiration or need to learn a bit more about Google Slides or PowerPoint. Do you have kids? We’ve got a section dedicated to printable coloring pages! Have a look around and make the most of our site!

artificial emotional intelligence —

Major chatgpt-4o update allows audio-video talks with an “emotional” ai chatbot, new gpt-4o model can sing a bedtime story, detect facial expressions, read emotions..

Benj Edwards and Kyle Orland - May 13, 2024 5:58 pm UTC

Abstract multicolored waveform

On Monday, OpenAI debuted GPT-4o (o for "omni"), a major new AI model that can ostensibly converse using speech in real time, reading emotional cues and responding to visual input. It operates faster than OpenAI's previous best model, GPT-4 Turbo , and will be free for ChatGPT users and available as a service through API, rolling out over the next few weeks, OpenAI says.

Further Reading

OpenAI revealed the new audio conversation and vision comprehension capabilities in a YouTube livestream titled "OpenAI Spring Update," presented by OpenAI CTO Mira Murati and employees Mark Chen and Barret Zoph that included live demos of GPT-4o in action.

OpenAI claims that GPT-4o responds to audio inputs in about 320 milliseconds on average, which is similar to human response times in conversation, according to a 2009 study , and much shorter than the typical 2–3 second lag experienced with previous models. With GPT-4o, OpenAI says it trained a brand-new AI model end-to-end using text, vision, and audio in a way that all inputs and outputs "are processed by the same neural network."

"Because GPT-4o is our first model combining all of these modalities, we are still just scratching the surface of exploring what the model can do and its limitations," OpenAI says.

During the livestream, OpenAI demonstrated GPT-4o's real-time audio conversation capabilities, showcasing its ability to engage in natural, responsive dialogue. The AI assistant seemed to easily pick up on emotions, adapted its tone and style to match the user's requests, and even incorporated sound effects, laughing, and singing into its responses.

OpenAI CTO Mira Murati seen debuting GPT-4o during OpenAI's Spring Update livestream on May 13, 2024.

The presenters also highlighted GPT-4o's enhanced visual comprehension. By uploading screenshots, documents containing text and images, or charts, users can apparently hold conversations about the visual content and receive data analysis from GPT-4o. In the live demo, the AI assistant demonstrated its ability to analyze selfies, detect emotions, and engage in lighthearted banter about the images.

Additionally, GPT-4o exhibited improved speed and quality in more than 50 languages, which OpenAI says covers 97 percent of the world's population. The model also showcased its real-time translation capabilities, facilitating conversations between speakers of different languages with near-instantaneous translations.

OpenAI first added conversational voice features to ChatGPT in September 2023 that utilized Whisper , an AI speech recognition model, for input and a custom voice synthesis technology for output. In the past, OpenAI's multimodal ChatGPT interface used three processes: transcription (from speech to text), intelligence (processing the text as tokens), and text to speech, bringing increased latency with each step. With GPT-4o, all of those steps reportedly happen at once. It "reasons across voice, text, and vision," according to Murati. They called this an "omnimodel" in a slide shown on-screen behind Murati during the livestream.

OpenAI announced that GPT-4o will be accessible to all ChatGPT users, with paid subscribers having access to five times the rate limits of free users. GPT-4o in API form will also reportedly feature twice the speed, 50 percent lower cost, and five-times higher rate limits compared to GPT-4 Turbo. (Right now, GPT-4o is only available as a text model in ChatGPT, and the audio/video features have not launched yet.)

In <em>Her</em>, the main character talks to an AI personality through wireless earbuds similar to AirPods.

The capabilities demonstrated during the livestream and numerous videos on OpenAI's website recall the conversational AI agent in the 2013 sci-fi film Her . In that film, the lead character develops a personal attachment to the AI personality. With the simulated emotional expressiveness of GPT-4o from OpenAI (artificial emotional intelligence, you could call it), it's not inconceivable that similar emotional attachments on the human side may develop with OpenAI's assistant, as we've already seen in the past.

Murati acknowledged the new challenges posed by GPT-4o's real-time audio and image capabilities in terms of safety, and stated that the company will continue researching safety and soliciting feedback from test users during its iterative deployment over the coming weeks.

"GPT-4o has also undergone extensive external red teaming with 70+ external experts in domains such as social psychology, bias and fairness, and misinformation to identify risks that are introduced or amplified by the newly added modalities," says OpenAI. "We used these learnings [sic] to build out our safety interventions in order to improve the safety of interacting with GPT-4o. We will continue to mitigate new risks as they’re discovered."

Updates to ChatGPT

Also on Monday, OpenAI announced several updates to ChatGPT, including a ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, which began to roll our to a few testers who subscribe to ChatGPT Plus today and will become "more broadly available" in the coming weeks, according to OpenAI. OpenAI is also streamlining the ChatGPT interface with a new home screen and message layout.

And as we mentioned briefly above, when using the GPT-4o model (once it becomes widely available), ChatGPT Free users will have access to web browsing, data analytics, the GPT Store , and Memory features, which were previously limited to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers.

I grew up in the US, live right next door to the US, and dislike that kind of chirpiness in general. But even so, it sounds way over the top. It's not that you'd never hear that level from an actual person, but it would indicate that the person was insincere (above and beyond formulaic "how are you" when you don't actually care), and not very good at acting and/or gauging their audience. From your name I'm guessing maybe you come from somewhere other than the US and aren't quite calibrated to see it as excessive even for the US. But I admit I could also be the one who's miscalibrated, especially because I'm old. And it's true 's true that women are really expected to lay it on pretty thick in some situations.

What is a slideshow?

What are slideshows used for.

Meetings and presentations

Slideshows are most frequently used to create professional presentations for business meetings, conferences, and educational purposes. A  slideshow program  allows people to organize content, include visuals, and enhance the overall impact of their message.

Visual storytelling

Because slideshows sequentially display engaging visuals, text, and other multimedia, they’re a strong way to tell a cohesive and compelling narrative from start to finish.

Content creation

Slideshows give content creators a versatile and efficient way to organize information, increase visual appeal, and communicate effectively across different contexts.

Photo and video sharing

Slideshow makers are popular for creating photo and video presentations, especially for events like weddings, birthdays, and vacations. People can add transitions, music, and captions to fully bring the photo-sharing experience to life.

Training and tutorials

Slideshows help break down complex information into digestible chunks with the support of visuals and text, making them ideal for instructional materials, tutorials, and training modules.

Collaborative projects

In collaborative settings, teams use slideshow makers to create joint presentations or reports. The best slideshow makers enable multiple contributors to add their content simultaneously, which helps ensure a cohesive and unified presentation.

What are the features of a slideshow creator?

Slideshow creators vary in what they offer but ideally include:

A library of templates, themes, and images.

If you’re not a designer, this feature is huge. Simply browse the options available in your slideshow maker library to create a polished, professionally designed presentation in a flash. Be sure to confirm that access to the library is free and the images are approved for unrestricted usage.

Audio and video compatibility.

Keeping your audience engaged is key to any successful slideshow presentation. To mix things up, being able to add a multimedia element—like a song or a video clip—will help people stay focused and interested.

Presentation tools.

Handy presenter tools go a long way toward making your slideshow experience seamless. For example, straightforward slide navigation, slideshow keyboard shortcuts, pen and highlighter markup, and adjustable resolution settings.

AI assistance.

With AI revolutionizing content creation, using a slideshow maker that has AI capabilities will enhance efficiency and innovation. Depending on the slideshow app you have, creating an entire slideshow could be as easy as a quick prompt, like “Make a presentation about the benefits of sustainable fashion that has 15 slides.”

Animations.

Like audio and video, animations give your audience a bit of sensory surprise that can capture their attention.

Slide transitions.

Add some pizzazz to how you change slides with visual effects like fading, wiping, and zooming.

Screen recording.

Being able to record your screen in a slideshow maker is helpful when giving an instructional talk, software demonstration, and other types of presentations that require visual aids.

A place to put speaker notes.

Having somewhere to jot a few notes down will help remind you of everything you want to cover as you present.

Different viewing options.

Looking at different views—for example, a presenter view, an audience view, and a high-level view of slide order—is useful when organizing your slideshow’s structure and understanding and preparing for what you’ll see versus what your audience will see.

How do I choose the right slideshow maker?

When choosing a slideshow maker, keep the following questions in mind to make sure you get the most for your money:

Is it scalable with your business?

As your organization grows and changes, it’s important to have flexible technology that adapts to new needs. Having certain features—such as cloud-based collaboration, compatibility with other work apps, and a mobile app—will help ensure that no matter how your business changes, the slideshow maker is up to the task. This also applies to pricing plans. Consider choosing a slideshow app that has a subscription plan (so the software is always up to date), volume-based pricing, or enterprise-level pricing.

Does it have a variety of visual elements?

It’s pretty much a given that a slideshow maker will allow you to add images, but think outside the JPEG box—what other visual elements are available to you? Features like preset themes, free templates, SmartArt, a built-in clip art library, shape tools, background styles, 3D models, and charts and graphs provide diverse ways to switch up how a slideshow looks without relying solely on adding your own images.

Is it easy to use?

You could have the most feature-rich slideshow maker on the market, but if it isn’t easy to use, you probably won’t use it. Or you will, but you’ll be frustrated, waste valuable time, and have difficulty convincing people you work with to use it. As you research slideshow makers, look for videos that show the apps’ interfaces in action to help you decide if they’re intuitive and will have a shorter learning curve.

Does it have collaboration and sharing options?

Because making a slideshow is often a collaborative effort, it’s worthwhile to find a slideshow creator that was designed with this in mind. Pick one that offers editing controls and commenting, as well as the ability to work on a slideshow at the same time as someone else. Having a cloud-based slideshow maker will be key here. You’ll not only save yourself time but also keep things simple by not having multiple versions of the same slideshow.
