A list of 24 good dissertation topics in jewelry.

If you choose to advance with your academic studies beyond undergraduate level, crafting term papers and doing field research will be the order of the day as you edge closer to being christened a scholar. Scholars are known for producing practical knowledge through extensive field studies. Scholars are professors who are fundamentally PhD holders in some filed of specialization. Well, are you aspiring to be christened a professor of Jewelry? Jewels denote precious metals and other metallic valuables such as earrings, necklaces, rings and among others. Fashion has over the years become closely linked to jewelry thanks to the rate at which fashion designers continue to integrate jewels with clothing. These days and particularly for ladies, buying a good designer shoes or dress would be incomplete if the accessory lacks some kind of jewels attached to it. To men, adorning of jewels is best pronounced in watches, belts and shoe buckles. Further, it is hard to find ladies handbags which lack some sort of jewels such as zips and handles even if it is silver of gold coated.

With these in mind, writing a dissertation paper on jewels would be easier simply because there is plenty to put down. However, another hurdle arises. When you are assigned a dissertation on jewels, it is not a matter of writing whatever you think. This is an advance level of learning and people will be expecting a problem solving paper or rather, something which addresses a knowledge gap. This post therefore makes this easier by sampling some great term paper topics on jewelry, so take a leap in for more.

A jewel can convey different appropriations and feelings, such as a habitat, poetic and intangible space. Within the framework of the research project named “Possible but Improbable Spaces”, we had started with the experimentation around asymmetric architectures inspired by nature and its capacity to metamorphose. The transposition of the space scale to the jewellery field would imply the concretization of spatial concepts avoiding any explicit transposition of this universe or even miniaturization. This article focuses on the methodology underlying the creation of a contemporary jewellery collection inserted in the project referred above and its main principles: versatility and reuse. We had resorted to sketches, cardboard models, 3D software, 3D printing and traditional techniques. Considering the urgency for more sustainable answers, we should question whether jewellery should not definitively follow a new course at the level of its design and materiality. If in the 20th century, some designers began to integrate new material into their creations, for a conceptual or technical reason, at this time the issue of urgency at the environmental level arises. Finally, the non-resource or punctual use of precious materials minimizes the cost of each piece that becomes more dependent on its innovation, its narrative and less on the value of the material.

The jewellery industry thesis

Profile image of maria da Silva

2007, From dynamism to dormancy: the jewellery industry in Johannesburg 1925-2003

The thesis explores the development and ultimate stagnation of the jewellery industry in South Africa in the context of the country being a primary producer of precious metals and minerals. The jewellery industry is discussed from the theoretical framework of business clustering, and draws specific attention to the constraints faced by the industry, especially in the form of government policy.

This report presents the results of phase 1 of research which is intended to identify the main social, environmental and ethical issues in the jewellery sector and to assist industry bodies in identifying how to integrate ethical considerations into their activities. The phase one report is based on an extensive review of literature related to ethical issues in the jewellery sector, covering ethical issues throughout the jewellery supply chain, from extraction of jewellery materials by mining processes, through to the retail of finished jewellery. In addition to highlighting established existing knowledge and literature in this field, our report highlights gaps in the literature and understanding that will influence the form and focus of more applied research to be proposed for phase two of the project.

This dissertation examines the meaning of diamonds in imperial Britain in the nineteenth century and how Britain's involvement in diamond commodity chains across the century informed metropolitan consumers ' conception of and desire for diamond jewelry. It argues that knowledge about the conditions of production in colonial spaces and supply to the metropole increased diamond appreciation and, ultimately, consumption of diamond jewelry by white, middling- and upper-class Britons. Though predicated upon a useless luxury commodity, when economic depression struck in 1873, the diamond market remained relatively buoyant, thus enabling the growth of production and distribution monopolies in southern Africa and Europe. This fairly consistent consumer demand occurred because, increasingly, diamonds were associated with the maintenance of imperialism and white privilege. To own and wear diamonds was to proclaim one’s cultural enfranchisement in late Victorian society on a global s...

In this article, I mobilise a Global Production Networks (GPN) approach to study a campaign seeking to impact mining practices by targeting a key consumer market: gold jewellery. In doing so, I make two contributions. The first is empirical: documenting this exploratory campaign and mapping activist strategies and outcomes against the gold production network. The second is theoretical: evaluating whether the GPN toolkit can help explain how the nature of a commodity and its markets impact activist strategies and outcomes. Recasting industries as sites of social struggle, a GPN approach offers a more nuanced understanding of the power permeating markets than more conventional supply chain analyses. The results clarify the challenges activists face when politicising industries by targeting brands, particularly in the extractives sector. But the findings also illuminate opportunities, including the more subtle pathways of activist influence as they: i) gather and disseminate information, ii) place social and environmental issues on the industry agenda, iii) spur industry to create institutions around these issues, iv) insert themselves and their agenda into the production network, and v) form alliances with industry actors pushing for change.
