  • Must be South African
  • 18 – 35 years

The FET Certificate in Animal / Plant Production Learnership

This Learnership comprises of 30% of theory work / instructional learning and 70% workplace Learning. This Learnership is outcome based and is intended to contribute towards skills shortage in South Africa.

The DARD Learnership is based on a legal binding agreement between the employer, learner and the training service provider. The Learnership Programe shall be presented for a period of one year consisting of:

1. Theory – A 30% intensive instructional learning theory

2. Workplace Training – This is 70% workplace learning that shall take place at the farms and DARD Research Stations. The Learner shall be regarded as competent after the successful completion of the instructional learning phase, the workplace learning phase, the final submission of the Portfolio of Evidence (POE) and the successful external verification by AgriSeta.

Any contravention or deviation from the Leanership agreement during the twelve months’ period shall be dealt with by the DARD in accordance with section 17 and 18 of the Skills Development act 97 of 1998

it should be noted that after the successful completion of your Learnership. FET Certificate in Animal/Plant Production NQF 4 will be issued. However the Department Agriculture and Rural Development does not guarantee any permanent employment.

HOW TO APPLY

Complete the application form in your own writing. This application form is obtainable in the DARD website (www.kzndard.gov.za). Make sure that you do not leave empty spaces and the application form is signed and dated by the applicant. Attach certified copies of your certificates and identity document that are not older than twelve months. No late incomplete or unsigned application form shall be accepted. Fax and Emailed application shall not be accepted.

Qualifications Overview

This qualification will add value to a specific manufacturing, engineering and technology context by complementing contexts specific qualifications within these sectors in order to address these identified gaps.

This qualification provides learners with the range of learning and skills required to be able to perform a series of activities to support manufacturing, engineering and technology processes. Learners will acquire a range of skills in the identification of production parameters in manufacturing, engineering and technology industries and basic strategies to achieve them.

This qualification is run as a learnership over 12 months. Candidates will need to attend 2 days of training (on average) each month in addition to completing their assignments.

Delivery Method

Training will take place using the tried-and-tested benefits of instructor-led learning.

For large groups (10 or more), training times can be arranged according to your date and time requirements, delivered on-site at your premises or through a host company.

Who Should Attend

This qualification is geared towards individuals interested or involved in an organization's production technology function who have relevant experience but no formal qualifications. It also provides opportunities for people to move up the value chain.

Prerequisites

To ensure that you align your learners to the appropriate qualifications, we have built in a thorough pre-assessment process. Entry requirements for this course include:

• Communication at NQF Level 1. • Mathematical literacy NQF Level 1.

Learning Outcomes

• Communicate production and manufacturing related operational information to a variety of end users. • Optimize organizational structures, functions and processes in order to contribute to achieving production specifications. • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment through contributions made to production activities individually and in working groups. • Demonstrate an understanding of production technology practices, terminology and systems as applied in manufacturing, engineering and technology. • Apply quality standards and procedures in production activities.

This qualification is the first qualification in a pathway of three (3) qualifications for learners in the production technology environment.
