Certain hobbies such as photography are very expensive. Hobbies like gardening require hard physical work. Reading requires some serious intellectual exercise.

My hobby is stamp collecting. Every country in the modern world issues stamps off and on. Stamps are used to commemorate the birthday of renowned personalities of the nation, to mark some important events, and so on others occasions.

            Stamps are of different colors, sizes, and designs. They contain pictures of birds, persons, animals, plants, factories, etc. They mention their fiscal value and sometimes dates, months, and years.

            There are several philately societies concerned with the activity of stamp collecting. I’m a member of one such society known as the Indian Philately Society.

            I have about five thousand postage stamps. I have arranged them in albums according to the countries belonging to different continents. I have also made a list of stamps of different kinds such as scenery, birds, animals, people, scientific inventions, and discoveries, those relating to historical and geographical spheres, etc. I’m happy with my collection of stamps and very proud of them too.

 I believe that sports play an important role in the physical and mental development of an individual and everyone should participate in sports in order to be healthy and physically fit. I consider cycling as my favorite pastime and this sport is very important to me. I believe that after cycling one can concentrate more on the studies and that is the reason why I have regarded cycling as one of the qualities. Lance Armstrong is my sporting hero and I have actually learned a lot from Lance Armstrong. This inspirational personality has actually developed my interest in cycling.

Just two hours of cycling can easily nourish your mind and it can have certain positive effects on your soul as well. Cycling can easily be related to my personal attributes and it gives a soothing effect to my entire personality and my overall outlook.

I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also, I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book. Books provide the readers with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise, I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way. Reading helps me in many ways. My general knowledge has increased. I participated and won many quiz contests, science contests with the help of my hobby. It improves my grammar and vocabulary. My hobby helps me in my studies also. I always get distinctions in my subjects. So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world, I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

Kite-flying is my hobby. I like it very much. I have a good collection of kites. There are kites of many shapes and sizes. They are of many colors.

I keep the spot neat and clean. I have four plants of tomatoes in any garden. Daily I pluck two or three tomatoes and eat them raw. They are very tasty.

These great thinker-philosophers have been successfully redeeming my faith in mankind. I have the same feeling when I read about everyday incidents of communal harmony and religious tolerance I feel proud of my country when I read about young people who have achieved great heights in fields of science, management, arts, etc.

Reading besides providing emotional satisfaction, also gives valuable information about people, places, and objects. It is through books that I have visited many foreign countries, traveled in spaceships, had conversations,s and gained insight into the thoughts of the world leaders.

Indeed reading for me is more than a hobby. it is a passion, that I can never leave.

If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. My hobbies are Singing and listening to music. But singing is my favorite hobby. When I was 4 years old, my parents enrolled me in a Music Class in our Apartment. Our Music teacher’s name was Mrs.Sheela and used to teach me the basics of Music and Singing. From then I used to practice whatever my teacher taught me in Music Class whenever I am free. Also, my friends encourage me to sing during the lunch breaks and they enjoy my songs and have lunch.

I simply smile while singing a song which makes the listeners/observers smile as well. I have also participated and bagged few prizes in singing and music-related competitions which were organized in our school. 

Besides that my mom is also a renowned singer and she received many awards for the same. But she compromised her dream to take care of my family. Whenever I bag an award or prize from a singing competition, my mom is the first person who will be happy about that. My mom and I enjoy singing together and forget about the time. My mom also suggests to me the correction of tone and rhythm here and there when I am singing along. Sometimes, I feel that I am fulfilling her dream.

Since my Voice range is alto, I stuck only to singing melodious songs. But I dream to become a DJ or pop star in the future. For that I am practicing pop, pop alternative singing methods as well. Once I get familiar with the pop style methods, I will disclose to my friends that I can sing pop songs as well. Someday I wish to become a great singer in the world.

First, I like to finish all my school homework and then start watching TV. This lightens my mood and sparks up the excitement inside me, as it increases my curiosity about the world. Watching different useful stuff on TV enhances my knowledge horizons and gives me lots of joy.

It is a good habit because watching TV escorts a lot of knowledge in various fields. There are several channels on TV, which represent worldwide affairs. I watch the news and I like channels, such as animal planet, discovery channel or another informative channel. These channels increase my curiosity and encourage me to learn about different aspects of life.

I interestingly watch a cartoon network that provides me with creative and new ideas to make cartoons and arts. Some of my favourite comics are Mr Bean, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo and many more. Many art-themed cartoons, like The Pink Panther and SpongeBob, inspire me to draw them. Primarily, the artworks of comics attract me and inspire me to decorate my scrapbooks with their figures.

My parents praise my hobby, and they are also happy when they see me watching national and international news and several events on the TV. Moreover, they feel proud when they listen to the news update from me. 

Now, I study in class with two and eight years old girls. Creating jokes, sitting idle and spending time roaming around is unproductive, according to my parents. My parents made sure that I developed my hobbies from childhood. Therefore, they encouraged me to create some good habits.

I, too, have more than one hobby. Other than watching TV, I like to listen to music. This helps me keep myself calm after doing lots of work and gives my ears and heart a soothing effect. 

Besides these, I also have hobbies, such as reading comic books, painting, writing narrative stories, and maintaining a scrapbook. These activities make me happy and enhance my hidden qualities. Writing and reading boost my imagination. Along with these activities, I participate in gardening in my leisure time because I love to plant new and colourful flowers.

Dance, in my opinion, is a feeling that showcases various cultures and traditions. I find immense pleasure in learning about different traditions through dance. Similarly, while reading “Harry Potter,” I couldn’t help but identify with the protagonist and adopt some of his traits. Books have a way of molding my personality and helping me become a better version of myself.

A World of Endless Possibilities: Throughout my life, I have devoured over 2000 books, exploring a wide range of genres and themes. I don’t limit myself to a particular genre; instead, I value the essence and power of words within each book. One of the joys of reading as a hobby is the intoxicating scent of new books and the satisfying sound of crisp pages turning, ushering me into the next chapter of the story.

Journeying Through Books: One of the reasons I adore reading so much is the ability to travel through books. While I may not have the means to travel frequently, books allow me to embark on extraordinary journeys. I can wander through the Mediterranean islands or bask in the sun-drenched beaches of Florida. Through the pages of a book, I can traverse different centuries, living the lives of nobles, or even see the world through the eyes of princes and princesses. Each book offers me a private escape and leaves me feeling transformed.

The Power of Knowledge : Reading provides me with a wealth of information that expands my mind and equips me to face life’s challenges. I acquire insights and knowledge that others may be unaware of, making me feel prepared and confident. Books are not merely a way to pass the time; they have become an integral part of my life.

Nurturing the Passion: Recognizing my early passion for reading, my father gifted me a membership to our city’s library. Now, I visit the library every week, sometimes even twice, to borrow my favorite books and indulge in my passion for reading. What was once a hobby has transformed into a true passion that I wholeheartedly embrace.

Reading books is not just a pastime for me; it is a passion that brings me joy, knowledge, and inspiration. Through books, I embark on endless adventures, explore diverse perspectives, and nurture my imagination. The enchanting world of books has become an integral part of my life, shaping me into a more enlightened and fulfilled individual.

My Hobby Essay in English for Matric to Graduation in 1000-2000 Words

A hobby provides one with a welcome change. When one is back home after a strenuous day with an exhausted and jaded mind, one’s mind is enlivened by a hobby. It is an occupation in which one is one’s own master, no terms are dictated; no restrictions are imposed. If one succeeds, it is so pleasant and heartening; if one does not, it hardly matters.

There is no end to the kinds of hobbies. Stamp collecting seems to be one of the most popular and universally practiced hobbies. Students derive great pleasure from it. Autograph collecting is another favorite. It provides opportunities to meet great people. It also helps people to cast off their shyness and approach great men. However, once when I approached a great dramatist to get this autograph, he wrote in my autograph book – getting autographs is a sign of adolescence. I felt so flushed, I have never again asked anyone for his autograph. Fishing is yet another on popular hobby. Nevertheless, it is a hobby essentially of the reflective or imaginative mind. One can sit for hours near a tank or a rivulet, with rod or line in hand, lost in the paradise of one’s own creation. Rambling in the countryside is a very refreshing pursuit. It helps to restore man’s ties with nature, which stand almost snapped. Besides, it can prove highly educational. Someone with well-developed creative faculties can make decorative pieces with the odd knick-knack available in the house. One of my friends has made the Minar-a-Pakistan purely from empty penicillin vials. Another one makes beautiful decorative wall plates with empty cigarette packets. Then there are gardening, horse-riding, reading favorite authors, photography, painting, music coin or insect collecting, hitch-hiking and so on. In fact, hobbies can be multiplied and infinitum.

Some of the hobbies can be quite ridiculous too. One of my friends has the hobby of collecting discarded tins and bus cartons, and empty bottles. Another one is interested in collecting the small confectionery wrappings. Still another one’s hobby is to collect a variety of cigars. Great men too have hobbies. They derive considerable personal pleasure from their pursuits but their hobbies are motivated by some other consideration too. A politician may turn to a science laboratory or a priest may take to dramatics purely for relaxation and still produce remarkable results.

A few basic principles ought to be observed in the selection of hobbies. A hobby should of course be an absorbing source of pleasure. But it should be pursued as a hobby only. It should not be allowed to become a passion or an obsession. Nor should it be allowed to interfere in one’s professional life. Secondly, it should be within one’s means. It should not be expensive that it starts draining one’s financial resources. Photography and record – collecting have become luxuries. If one can afford them. They are highly satisfying. But there can be equally satisfying inexpensive hobbies to-reading, writing or painting, for example. Painting or writing can even be made a source of income. Thirdly, hobbies should not be absurd, idle pursuits. They should serve some useful purpose. There is palmistry, a fascinating and educational study. There is gardening to provide physical exercise as well as fresh vegetables and colourful flowers. Finally, hobbies are purely personal affairs. They should not be allowed to distract one from one’s domestic and social obligations.

Hobbies are very popular in the west. It is a common saying that Every Englishman rides a hobbyhorse. But Pakistanis do not fully realise the importance and advantage of such a pursuit. Our most popular hobby seems to be gossiping. Ladies, in particular, hold coffee-cum-mud flinging sessions in the afternoon. How light and relaxed they feel after a two-hour long character dissection of their neighbours. One who is strained in his professional life feels the need of relaxation. Since many of us do not take their jobs seriously, they are mostly in a state of idle relaxation.
