ભારત એક તહેવારોનો દેશ છે. ભારત દેશમાં બધાજ ધાર્મિક, સામાજિક તથા રાષ્ટ્રીય તહેવારોની ઊજવણી ખૂબ જ ધામધૂમથી થાય છે. એમાં પણ દિવાળી ભારતના લોકોનો એક લોકપ્રિય તહેવાર છે. દિવાળીએ હિન્દુ ધર્મનો મુખ્ય તહેવાર છે.

દિવાળી ગુજરાતી મહિના પ્રમાણે આસો મહિનામાં આવે છે. આસો મહિનાનો છેલ્લો દિવસ એટલે અમાસ આસો મહિનાની અમાસના દિવસને દિવાળીના દિવસ તરીકે ઊજવવામાં આવે છે. દર વર્ષે ઑક્ટોબર અથવા નવેમ્બર મહિનામાં દિવાળીનો તહેવાર આવે છે.

વિક્રમ સંવતનો છેલ્લો દિવસ એટલે આસો વદ અમાસ અને એના બીજા દિવસ થી વિક્રમ સંવતનું નવું વર્ષ શરુ થાય છે. તેથી નવા વર્ષની ઉજવણી આનંદ અને ઉલ્લાસથી કરવામાં આવે છે. સમગ્ર દેશમાં દિવાળીનો તહેવાર ખૂબ જ ધામધૂમ થી ઊજવવામાં આવે છે.

રામાયણ અનુસાર ભગવાન શ્રી રામે રાવણનો વધ કરી અને 14 વર્ષનો વનવાસ વિતાવ્યા પછી દિવાળીના દિવસે અયોધ્યા પરત ફર્યા. અયોધ્યા વાસીઓએ ભગવાન શ્રી રામના સ્વાગતમાં ઘેર ઘેર દિવા પ્રગટાવી રોશની કરી. અયોધ્યા વાસીઓએ ભગવાન શ્રી રામ, લક્ષ્મણ અને સીતાજીનું સ્વાગત ખૂબ જ ધામધૂમથી કર્યું.

દર વર્ષે આસો મહિનાની શરૂઆતથી જ દિવાળીની તૈયારીઓ શરુ થઇ જાય છે. લોકો ઘરની સાફસફાઈ કરે છે. લોકો ઘરની દીવાલો અને બારીબારણાં પર રંગરોગાન કરાવે છે. લોકો દિવાળી માટે નવા કપડાં, ફટાકડા, સુશોભનની વસ્તુઓ, નાસ્તા અને મીઠાઈઓ વગેરે જેવી વસ્તુઓની ખરીદી કરે છે.

ઘણા લોકો જાતજાતના નાસ્તા અને અલગ અલગ મીઠાઈઓ ઘરે પણ બનાવે છે. લોકો દિવાળીની ખરીદી કરવા માટે બજારમાં ઊમટી પડે છે. દિવાળીના દિવસોમાં બજારમાં લોકોની ભીડ જામ થઇ જાય છે. દિવાળીના દિવસોમાં લોકો મકાનો અને દુકાનો પર વીજળીના તોરણોથી રોશની કરે છે.

દિવાળીમાં મોટી મોટી ઇમારતો પણ રોશનીથી ઝળહળી ઊઠે છે. સ્ત્રીઓ ઘરના આંગણામાં દિવા પ્રગટાવે છે. સ્ત્રીઓ ઘરની બહાર સુંદર રંગોળી પણ બનાવે છે. રંગોળીની સાથે સાથે સાથિયા પણ કરે છે. અમુક લોકો આખા ઘરને રોશની કરીને શણગારે છે.

દિવાળીનો તહેવાર એટલે પાંચ દિવસનો તહેવાર. ધનતેરસ, કાળીચૌદસ, દિવાળી, બેસતુ વર્ષ અને ભાઈબીજ. ધનતેરસ ના દિવસે લોકો લક્ષ્મી પૂજન કરે છે. ધનતેરસે લોકો સોના ચાંદીના દાગીનાની ખરીદીને શુભ માને છે. એટલે જ લોકો ધનતેરસ ના દિવસે સોના ચાંદીના દાગીના ખરીદે છે.

કાળીચૌદસના દિવસે કાલિકામાતાની, ભૈરવની, હનુમાનદાદાની તથા ઘંટાકર્ણ મહાવીર ભગવાનની પૂજા થાય છે. દિવાળીના દિવસે ચોપડા પૂજન કરે છે. ચોપડા પૂજન કરીને ફટાકડા પણ ફોડે છે. બેસતા વર્ષના દિવસે લોકો દેવમંદિરે દર્શન કરવા જાય છે. બેસતા વર્ષના દિવસે લોકો એકબીજાને “સાલમુબારક” કહે છે.

લોકો નવા વર્ષમાં વડીલોને પગે લાગી ને આશીર્વાદ લે છે. તેઓ પોતાના સગાંવહાલાંને નવા વર્ષની શુભેચ્છાઓ પાઠવે છે. બેસતા વર્ષના દિવસે નૂતન વર્ષાભિનંદન પાઠવવા માટે આવેલા સગાસંબંધીઓ અને મિત્રોને મીઠાઈ તથા અન્ય વાનગીઓ ખવડાવવામાં આવેછે. દિવાળીમાં ખાવાની વાનગીઓમાં મઠિયા અને સુંવાળી ખૂબ જ પ્રખ્યાત છે.

ભાઈબીજના દિવસે ભાઈ બહેનના ઘરે જાય છે. બહેન ભાઈનું ભાવતું ભોજન જમાડે છે. અને ભાઈ બહેનને યથાશક્તિ પ્રમાણે ભેટ આપે છે. દિવાળીમાં આપણે કોઈની સાથે મનદુઃખ થયું હોય તો પણ આપણે તે ભૂલી જઈને નૂતન વર્ષની શુભેચ્છાઓ પાઠવવી જોઈએ. દિવાળી એ અંધકારને દૂર કરીને પ્રકાશ ફેલાવવાનો તહેવાર છે.

દિવાળીએ નાના બાળકોનો પ્રિય તહેવાર હોય છે. બાળકો દિવાળીની આતુરતાથી રાહ જોતા હોય છે. શાળાઓમાં પણ દિવાળીની રજાઓ આપવામાં આવે છે. બાળકોને દિવાળીમાં નવા નવા કપડાં પહેરવાની મજા પડી જાય છે. બાળકોને ફટાકડા ફોડવાની પણ ખૂબ મજા આવે છે. આમ, દિવાળીમાં બાળકો આનંદ આનંદ માં આવી જાય છે.

પ્રસ્તાવના: દિવાળી ભારતના મુખ્ય તહેવારોમાંનો એક છે. તે દર વર્ષે કાર્તિક મહિનાના નવા ચંદ્ર પર ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. દીપાવલીને પ્રકાશના તહેવાર તરીકે ઓળખવામાં આવે છે. દિવાળી અંધકાર પર પ્રકાશના વિજયનો તહેવાર છે.

ભારતના દરેક ઘરમાં આ દિવસે દીવા પ્રગટાવવામાં આવે છે, હિન્દુ માન્યતાઓ અનુસાર, કારતક મહિનાની નવી ચંદ્ર પર ભગવાન શ્રી રામ 14 વર્ષના વનવાસ અને રાવણનો વધ કર્યા બાદ અયોધ્યા પરત ફર્યા હતા.

અયોધ્યાના લોકોએ ત્યારબાદ શ્રી રામની અયોધ્યા પરત ફરતી વખતે ઘીના દીવા પ્રગટાવ્યા, ત્યારથી આ દિવસ દર વર્ષે દીપાવલી તરીકે ખૂબ ધામધૂમથી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.

દિવાળી કેમ ઉજવવામાં આવે છે ?

આ દિવસે ભગવાન રામ સીતા અને લક્ષ્મણ સાથે અયોધ્યા પહોંચ્યા હતા. અયોધ્યાના ગ્રામજનોએ રામ, લક્ષ્મણ અને સીતાબાઈનું સ્વાગત કર્યું અને તેમના ગામને રોશનીથી શણગાર્યું. જૈનો કહે છે કે આ તે દિવસ છે જ્યારે ભગવાન મહાવીરે “મોક્ષ અથવા મોક્ષ” પ્રાપ્ત કર્યો હતો. તેઓ આવી પ્રાપ્તિના આનંદમાં પ્રકાશ દર્શાવે છે. આર્ય સમાજના દયાનંદ સરસ્વતીએ પણ આ દિવસે ‘નિર્વાણ’ પ્રાપ્ત કર્યું.

તે રોશની અને આતશબાજીનો તહેવાર છે. તે દુર્ગા પૂજા પછી આવે છે કારણ કે પશ્ચિમ બંગાળ અને ઉત્તર ભારતમાં કેટલાક અન્ય સ્થળોએ દિવાળી દરમિયાન દેવી કાલીની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. જેમ પ્રકાશ અંધકારને દૂર રાખે છે તેમ દેવી કાલી આપણા વિશ્વમાં દુષ્ટ શક્તિઓને દૂર કરે છે.

આ તહેવાર માટે મહાન ગુનાઓ કરવામાં આવે છે. દરેક વ્યક્તિ દિવાળીના એક મહિના પહેલા વ્યવસ્થા કરવાનું શરૂ કરે છે, નવા કપડાં ખરીદવામાં આવે છે, ઘરો સાફ કરવામાં આવે છે અને લાઇટ, ફૂલો વગેરેથી શણગારવામાં આવે છે. લોકો તેમના નજીકના અને પ્રિયજનોને બોલાવે છે અને બોલાવે છે.

દિવાળીનો ઇતિહાસ

લંકાપતિ રાવણનો વધ કર્યા બાદ અને ચૌદ વર્ષનો વનવાસ વિતાવ્યા બાદ જ્યારે ભગવાન રામ અયોધ્યા પરત ફર્યા ત્યારે અયોધ્યાના લોકોએ તેમના સ્વાગત માટે અને તેમના આગમન પર ખુશી વ્યક્ત કરવા માટે દીવા પ્રગટાવ્યા હતા. આ જ દિવસની પવિત્ર સ્મૃતિમાં આ દિવસ ખૂબ જ ઉત્સાહથી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે.

આ દિવસ નિમિત્તે ભગવાન રામની સ્મૃતિ ખૂબ જ તાજી બની જાય છે. આ દિવસે સમુદ્ર મંથન સમયે લક્ષ્મીજીનો જન્મ થયો હતો, તેથી જ દીપાવલી પર લક્ષ્મીજીની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે અને ઘરમાં ધન અને સમૃદ્ધિની કામના કરવામાં આવે છે. આ દિવસે ભગવાન કૃષ્ણએ નરકાસુર નામના રાક્ષસનો પણ વધ કર્યો હતો.

દીપોત્સવ ઉજવવાની તૈયારીઓ

આ તહેવાર પર મિત્રો અને સંબંધીઓમાં મીઠાઈ બનાવવામાં આવે છે અને વહેંચવામાં આવે છે. લોકો મજા કરે છે અને દિવાળીના દિવસે ખૂબ મજા કરે છે. યુવાન અને વૃદ્ધ નવા કપડા પહેરે છે. આ સાથે રાત્રી દરમિયાન અગ્નિદાહ અને ફટાકડા પણ ફોડવામાં આવે છે. અગ્નિ-કાર્યની જ્વલંત જ્વાળાઓ અંધારી રાતમાં સંપૂર્ણ દૃશ્ય પ્રદાન કરે છે.

તહેવાર એક સુંદર દેખાવ આપે છે. દરેક વ્યક્તિ સારી રીતે સમલૈંગિક છે અને કેટલાક લોકો તેને ઉત્સાહપૂર્વક ઉજવે છે કેટલાક જુગારીઓ અનુસાર જુગારમાં સામેલ થાય છે, દિવાળીને તહેવારનો એક ભાગ બનાવે છે.

રાત્રે લોકો તેમના ઘરો, દિવાલો અને છતને માટીના વાસણોથી અજવાળે છે. ઝબકતી રોશનીઓ રાતના અંધારામાં પક્ષીનો નજારો આપે છે. મકાનો ઉપરાંત, જાહેર ઇમારતો અને સરકારી અધિકારીઓ પણ બળી ગયા છે. રોશની અને રોશનીનું દ્રશ્ય ખૂબ જ મોહક છે.

દિવાળીનું વર્ણન

દિવાળીનો તહેવાર કારતક મહિનાના નવા ચંદ્રના દિવસે ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. દીપાવલીનો તહેવાર પાંચ દિવસ સુધી ચાલતો સૌથી મોટો તહેવાર છે. દિવાળીના ત્રણ દિવસ પહેલા ધનતેરસ આવે છે, આ દિવસે અહોઇ માતાની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. આ દિવસે લોકો જૂના વાસણો વેચે છે અને નવા ખરીદે છે.

વાસણો સાથે તમામ માટીકામ દુકાનો ખૂબ જ અનન્ય લાગે છે. ચતુર્દશીના દિવસે લોકો ઘરોમાંથી કચરો બહાર કાે છે. દિવાળીનો તહેવાર કારતક મહિનાના નવા ચંદ્ર પર ખૂબ જ ધામધૂમથી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. ધનતેરસના દિવસે વેપારીઓ તેમના નવા હિસાબના ચોપડા તૈયાર કરે છે.

બીજા દિવસે નરક ચૌદસ પર સૂર્યોદય પહેલા સ્નાન કરવું સારું માનવામાં આવે છે. નવા ચંદ્રના દિવસે લક્ષ્મીજીની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. પૂજામાં ખિલ-બાતાશેનો પ્રસાદ ચાવવામાં આવે છે. નવા કપડા પહેરવામાં આવે છે. અસંખ્ય દીવાઓની રંગબેરંગી લાઈટો મનને મોહિત કરે છે.

દુકાનો, બજારો અને ઘરોની સજાવટ દૃશ્યમાન રહે છે. બીજો દિવસ પરસ્પર મળવાનો દિવસ છે. એકબીજાને ગળે લગાવીને દિવાળીની શુભેચ્છા પાઠવવામાં આવે છે. ગૃહિણીઓ મહેમાનોનું સ્વાગત કરે છે. લોકો મોટા અને નાના, અમીર અને ગરીબનો ભેદ ભૂલીને સાથે મળીને આ તહેવાર ઉજવે છે.

લક્ષ્મી પૂજા

આ તહેવાર શરૂઆતમાં મહાલક્ષ્મી પૂજા તરીકે ઉજવવામાં આવતો હતો. મહાલક્ષ્મીજીનો જન્મ કાર્તિક અમાવસ્યાના દિવસે સમુદ્ર મંથનમાં થયો હતો. આજે પણ આ દિવસે ઘરોમાં મહાલક્ષ્મીજીની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે.

આ દિવસે લોકો તેમના પ્રિય ભાઈઓ અને મિત્રોને અભિનંદન આપે છે અને નવા વર્ષમાં સુખ અને સમૃદ્ધિની ઇચ્છા રાખે છે. છોકરાઓ અને છોકરીઓ નવા કપડા પહેરે છે અને મીઠાઈ વહેંચે છે. રાતના સમયે ફટાકડા ફોડવામાં આવે છે. ઘણા લોકો રાત્રે લક્ષ્મી પૂજા પણ કરે છે. કેટલીક જગ્યાએ દુર્ગા સપ્તમીનો પાઠ કરવામાં આવે છે. જેઓ તામસિક વલણ ધરાવે છે તેઓ જુગાર દ્વારા તેમની બુદ્ધિનો નાશ કરે છે.

સારા હેતુ માટે કરવામાં આવેલા તહેવારમાં પણ સમયાંતરે સમસ્યાઓ ભી થાય છે. ઘણા લોકો લક્ષ્મીની પૂજા કરે છે, જેની લોકો જુગાર માટે સંપત્તિ અને ખોરાકની પ્રાપ્તિ માટે ખૂબ આદર સાથે પૂજા કરતા હતા. જુગાર એક રિવાજ બની ગયો છે જે સમાજ અને પવિત્ર તહેવારો પર કલંક છે.

આ સિવાય, આધુનિક યુગમાં બોમ્બ ફટાકડાની ઘણી ખરાબ અસરો પણ જોવા મળે છે. આજના સમયમાં સમગ્ર ભારતમાં ફટાકડાનો ખૂબ જ જોરથી ઉપયોગ થાય છે. એવું માનવામાં આવે છે કે દિવાળીના દિવસે ભારતમાં પ્રદૂષણનું પ્રમાણ 50% વધે છે. ફટાકડાનો ઉપયોગ કરીને, આપણે થોડા સમય માટે આપણા પર્યાવરણને મોટા પ્રમાણમાં નાશ કરીએ છીએ.

નિષ્કર્ષ – દિવાળીનો તહેવાર દરેકના જીવનમાં ખુશીઓ લાવે છે. નવું જીવન જીવવાનો ઉત્સાહ આપે છે. કેટલાક લોકો આ દિવસે જુગાર રમે છે, જે ઘર અને સમાજ માટે ખૂબ જ ખરાબ બાબત છે.

દરેક સમાજમાં અલગ અલગ તહેવારો ઉજવામાં આવે છે અને તહેવારો દ્વારા દરેક સમાજ પોતાની ખુશી એક સાથે વ્યક્ત કરે છે. હિન્દુઓના મુખ્ય તહેવારો રક્ષાબંધન, હોળી, દશેરા અને દિવાળી છે. તેમાંથી દિવાળી સૌથી મહત્વનો તહેવાર છે. આ ઉત્સવનું નામ પડતાં જ મનમાં મોર નાચવા લાગે છે. રોશનીનો તહેવાર હોવાથી, આ તહેવાર આપણા બધાના હૃદયને પ્રકાશિત કરે છે.

કારતક મહિનાની અમાવાસ્યાના દિવસે દિવાળી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. અમાવસ્યાની કાળી રાત અસંખ્ય દીવાઓથી ચમકવા લાગે છે. કહેવાય છે કે ભગવાન રામ 14 વર્ષના વનવાસ પછી અયોધ્યા પરત ફર્યા હતા, જેમાં અયોધ્યાના લોકોએ દીપ પ્રગટાવીને તેમનું સ્વાગત કર્યું હતું અને ખુશીથી નાચી ઉઠીયા હતા.

શ્રીકૃષ્ણએ આ દિવસે નરકાસુર નામના રાક્ષસનો પણ વધ કર્યો હતો અને વિજય મેળવ્યો હતો. આ દિવસ ભગવાન મહાવીર સ્વામીનો નિર્વાણ દિવસ પણ છે. આ બધા કારણોસર આપણે દિવાળીનો તહેવાર ઉજવીએ છીએ.

લગભગ તમામ ધર્મના લોકો આ તહેવાર ઉજવે છે. આ તહેવારના આગમનના ઘણા દિવસો પહેલા, ઘરોને પ્લાસ્ટર અને શણગારવાનું શરૂ થાય છે.

નવા કપડા બને છે, મીઠાઈઓ બનાવવામાં આવે છે. વરસાદ પછીની ગંદકી ભવ્યતા અને સ્વચ્છતામાં ફેરવાઈ જાય છે.દરેક ઘર લક્ષ્મીજીના આગમનમાં ઝગમગાટ થાય છે.

આ તહેવાર પાંચ દિવસ સુધી ઉજવવામાં આવે છે. આ તહેવાર ધનતેરસથી ભાઈ દૂજ સુધી ચાલુ રહે છે. ધનતેરસના દિવસે વેપારી અને ધંધા કરનારઓ હિસાબના નવા ચોપડા બનાવે છે. બીજા દિવસે નરક ચૌદસના દિવસે સૂર્યોદય પહેલા સ્નાન કરવું શુભ માનવામાં આવે છે. અમાવાસ્યાના દિવસે લક્ષ્મીજીની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે.

પતાસાનો પ્રસાદ ચઢાવવામાં આવે છે. નવા વસ્ત્રો પહેરવામાં આવે છે. સ્પાર્કલર્સ, ફટાકડા છોડવામાં આવે છે. અસંખ્ય દીવાઓની રંગબેરંગી રોશની મનને મોહી લે છે. દુકાનો, બજારો અને ઘરોમાં સજાવટ રહે છે.

બીજા દિવસે બેસતું વર્ષ હોય છે. તે દિવસે એકબીજાને ગળે લગાવીને નવા વર્ષની શુભેચ્છાઓ આપવામાં આવે છે. ઘરોમાં મહેમાનોનું સ્વાગત કરવામાં આવે છે. લોકો નાના-મોટા, અમીર-ગરીબનો ભેદ ભૂલીને સાથે મળીને આ તહેવાર ઉજવે છે.

દિવાળીનો તહેવાર દરેકના જીવનમાં ખુશીઓ લઈને આવે છે. નવું જીવન જીવવાનો ઉત્સાહ પૂરો પાડે છે. કેટલાક લોકો આ દિવસે જુગાર રમે છે જે ઘર અને સમાજ માટે ખૂબ જ ખરાબ બાબત છે.

વિશ્વની પ્રત્યેક પ્રજા કોઇને કોઇ પ્રકારના ઉત્સવો ઉજવીને જીવનમાં ઉત્સાહ અને પ્રેરણાનું સિંચન કરતી હોય છે વર્ષ દરમિયાન એક હજાર જેટલા ઉત્સો થાય છે. જેમાંથી ઘણાં ઉત્સવો વહેતા સમયની સાથે પોતાનો પ્રભાવ ગુમાવી બેઠા છે. જયારે ઘણા ઉત્સવો હજી ૫ણ જીવંત છે. જેમાં ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિના દર્શન થાય છે.આ બધા જ ઉત્સવોમાં સૌથી વધુ પ્રભાવશાળી ઉત્સવ છે દિવાળી.

દિવાળી એટલે ઝગમગતાં દિવડાઓનો ઉત્સવ. આ ઉત્સવ સંસ્કૃતમાં ‘દિપાવલી’ અને પ્રાકૃતમાં ‘દિવાલિયા’ નામે જાણીતો છે. દિવાળીએ ભારતનો અતિ પ્રાચીન ઉત્સવ ગણાય છે. પ્રારંભમાં આ ઉત્સવ ઋતુ ઉત્સવના રૂ૫માં હતો ૫છી સિધુ સંસ્કૃતિના યુગમાં આ ઉત્સવ નેસર્ગિકરૂપે ઉજવાતો હતો. ૫છી સમય જતાં એ કૃષિ ઉત્સવ તરીકે ઉજવાતો થયો ત્યાર૫છી એણે લોકઉત્સવનું રૂપ ઘારણ કર્યુ.

દિવાળીનો ઉત્સવ વાઘબારસ, ધનતેરસ, કાળી ચૌદસ, દિવાળી, બેસતુ વર્ષ અને ભાઇબીજ એમ છ દિવસ સુઘી ચાલતો તહેવાર છે.

દિવાળી આવે એ ૫હેલાં જ લોકો પોતાના ઘરની સાફ-સફાઇ કરી દે છે. જુની વસ્તુઓ કાઢીને નવી વસ્તુઓ વસાવે છે. નવા ક૫ડાં ખરીદે છે. બહારગામ રહેતાં લોકો દિવાળી આવતા પોતાના વતનમાં ફરે છે. દિવાળીએ પોતાના કટુંબ સાથે હળીમળીને ઉજવાતો ઉત્સવ છે. નાના-મોટા સૌ ભેગા મળીને આ ઉત્સવ મનાવે છે. ફટાકડા ફોડે છે. રોકેટ છોડે છે. વગેરે દ્વારા સૌ આનંદ મેળવે છે.

દિવાળીના તહેવારમાં ધનતેરસ ના દિવસે ધન(લક્ષ્મી)ની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. દેવોના વૈધ ધન્વંતરી નો આ જન્મદિવસ ગણાય છે.  લોકો પોતાના ઘરમાં ધનની પૂજા કરે છે. દુકાનદારો દુકાનમાં રહેલા સાધનોની પૂજા કરે છે. અને નવીન ચો૫ડાથી નવા હિસાબની શરૂઆત કરે છે. આ દિવસે સ્ત્રીઓ વહેલી ઉઠીને વડના પાંદડાંના ૫ડિયા બનાવી તેમાં દીવા પ્રગટાવી નદીઓમાં તરતા મૂકે છે. આ દિવસે ઘણાં લોકો પિતૃઓનું શ્રાધ ૫ણ કરે છે. અને ગાયોના ધણની પૂજા કરવામાં આવે છે. ગાયોને રંગથી રંગવામાં ૫ણ આવે છે.

કાળી ચૌદસના દિવસે ગામડાઓમાં ખેડૂતો ઉકરડા ભરીને ખેતરમાં નાખે છે. શકિતના કે દેવીના પૂજકો તેમજ ભૂવાઓ ભૂતને બાકળા નાખવા જાય છે. ઘણા ભૂવા રાતવેળાના સ્મશાનમાં જઇને સાધના કરે છે. આ દિવસે આંખોમાં મેશ આંજવાનું મહત્વ ઘણું મોટું છે. એના માટે એક કહેવત જાણીતી છે.
