How Do I Create a Cover Page in Canva?

Creating a cover page can add a professional touch to any document or project. With Canva, the popular online design tool, you can easily create stunning and visually appealing cover pages in just a few simple steps. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating a cover page in Canva using various HTML styling elements.

Step 1: Creating a Canva Account

If you haven't already, head over to the Canva website and create an account. Simply provide your email address and choose a password to get started. Once you've created your account and logged in, you'll have access to all of Canva's amazing features.

Step 2: Choosing a Template

To create a cover page, start by clicking on the "Create a design" button on the Canva dashboard. You'll be presented with various templates to choose from. Use the search bar to find templates specifically designed for cover pages.

If you have specific requirements for your cover page, such as dimensions or theme, use the filters provided by Canva to refine your search further.

Step 3: Customizing Your Cover Page

Once you've selected a template that suits your needs, it's time to customize it according to your preferences. Canva provides an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that makes customization easy and fun.

  • Add Text: To add text to your cover page, simply click on the "Text" tab located on the left-hand side of the editor. Choose from Canva's wide range of fonts and enter your desired text. You can also resize, rotate, and change the color of your text using the options provided.
  • Add Images: Canva allows you to add images to your cover page to make it visually appealing. Click on the "Elements" tab and browse through Canva's extensive collection of images, icons, and illustrations. Simply drag and drop the desired image onto your cover page.
  • Customize Layout: Canva offers a variety of layout options for your cover page. Click on the "Layouts" tab to explore different arrangements of text and images. Experiment with different layouts until you find the one that best suits your needs.

Step 4: Downloading Your Cover Page

Once you're satisfied with the design of your cover page, it's time to download it. Canva provides various download options, including PDF, PNG, and JPEG formats. Simply click on the "Download" button located at the top right corner of the editor and choose your preferred format.

If you plan to make changes to your cover page later or use it for multiple projects, consider saving it as a Canva template. This will allow you to easily access and modify it whenever needed.

Remember, practice makes perfect! Don't be afraid to experiment with different templates, fonts, colors, and layouts in Canva to create unique and visually engaging cover pages.

Note: This tutorial assumes basic familiarity with HTML syntax. If you're new to HTML, it's recommended to learn the basics before attempting to incorporate HTML styling elements into your Canva designs.

How To Make A Cover Page For An Assignment? An Ultimate Guide

Level Up Your Assignment Game!

What if you made a shiny assignment but forgot to make the cover page? Remember that first impression in 'The Devil Wears Prada'? Well, your cover page deserves a standing ovation, not a silent groan from your teacher. But don't worry! Here's an ultimate guide on how to make a cover page for an assignment that will transform your cover page from 'blah' to 'wow' in no time!

What is a Cover Page in an Assignment?

The cover page, your essay's first impression, sets the stage for professionalism. It's where your name, course details, and due date greet your instructor. Though not always obligatory, its polished presentation can earn you favour. Following a good format often leads to higher scores, making it a smart academic move.

Why is a Cover Page Important?

As students, we all know the adage - you never get a second chance to make a first impression. That's where the cover page comes in - it's the gatekeeper to your assignment, and trust us, you don't want to drop the ball here. Mess it up, and your professor might write you off before they even start reading. But nail it? Well, that's like hitting a home run before you've even stepped up to the plate.

If you are thinking about how to make a cover page for an assignment, a well-formatted, error-free cover page is the key to unlocking your instructor's curiosity. Following the institution's template is just the cherry on top, showing you're a team player who respects the rules of the game.

How to Make a Cover Page for an Assignment?

When it comes to assignments, the cover page is our chance to grab the professor's attention right off the bat. Why settle for a drab intro when you can learn all about how to design the front page of an assignment? Let's dive into the essential elements of the cover page.

assignment cover page canva

1. Running Header

A running header goes on top of cover pages, separate from the main text. It's often used for APA style. Keep it short, 50 characters max, all uppercase.

Next is the title, explaining your work's content. Write it in the title case, capitalising most words. Avoid abbreviations and aim for 15-20 words. Centre the fully written title on the cover page.

3. Institution/ University Name

Your university or institution name belongs on the cover page, too. Different from the title, it shows readers where you're from and did the research. For reports or presentations, include your workplace or school.

4. Student’s Name and ID

Clearly state the author(s) name(s) and id(s) on the cover page. Include affiliations for multiple authors. For group projects, list all students' names and universities before the title. This ensures proper author credit.

Including the date on your cover page tells readers when you finished the work. Use the exact publication date. This also helps for future reference if someone needs to find work within a certain timeframe.

6. Instructor’s Information

Providing your instructor's details, such as name, designation, and department, shows you completed the work for their specific class. It ensures the assignment reaches the right person and department, avoiding any confusion.

How to Make A Front Page of an Assignment: APA Format

The APA (American Psychological Association) format heavily emphasises the cover page details. To know how to make a cover page for an assignment in an APA format, follow these specific guidelines.

assignment cover page canva

1. Page Number Placement: Start by placing the page number in the upper-right corner, always as 1, aligning it with the one-inch margin. This will be part of your running head, a feature in APA format, but for student papers, it's just the page number.

2. Title Placement: Move down three or four lines (double-spaced) from the top and centre of your paper's title. Make it bold and use proper capitalization rules for titles.

3. Author's Name: After the title, leave an empty line, then write your name. Keep it simple without any special formatting. If there are multiple authors, separate their names with commas and use "and" before the last author's name.

4. Department and School: Below your name, write your department or division, followed by your school's name, separated by a comma.

5. Course Information: Directly below your school's name, include the course name along with its numeric code.

6. Instructor's Name: Under the course information, write your instructor's full name, including any titles like 'Dr.'

7. Date: Finally, on the last line, write the date. Spell out the month for clarity.

How to Create a Cover Page for an Assignment: MLA Format

In MLA (Modern Language Association) style, you usually don't need a cover page; instead, you list essential details at the start of the first page. If you are wondering how to make an assignment front page in MLA style, here are the instructions.

assignment cover page canva

1. Student’s Name: Begin with the first student’s name on the top-left corner of the page, double-spaced.

2. Additional Authors: If there are more authors, list each on a separate line following the first student’s name.

3. Instructor’s Name: Below the last author’s name, including the instructor’s title, like “Professor Willow,” on a new line.

4. Course Details: Write the course name along with its numeric code on the next line.

5. Date : Following the course details, write the date in full, avoiding abbreviations for months. You can use either day-month-year or month-day-year format.

6. Title of the Paper : Centre the title four or five lines below the date, maintaining double spacing. Remember to capitalise the title according to standard rules, avoiding bold or italics.

How to Design Cover Page for Assignment: CMS Format

CMS (Chicago Manual of Style), a citation method for acknowledging sources in academic papers, grants ownership rights to authors, preventing plagiarism and aiding readers in locating sources. However, mastering one style isn't sufficient due to varying rules.

assignment cover page canva

1. Margins: Leave one-inch margins on all sides of your cover page to give it a neat look and provide space for your text.

2. Font: Stick to Times or Times New Roman font in 12 pt size for a professional appearance that's easy to read.

3. Spacing: Double-space the text on your cover page to make it clear and readable.

4. Text Alignment: Align your text to the left to create a clean, organised appearance, avoiding fully justified text.

5. Indentation: Start paragraphs, block quotes, and bibliography entries with a 1/2" indent for a structured layout.

6. Page Numbers: Number your pages in the top right corner, excluding the cover page. Include your last name to avoid confusion if pages get mixed up.

7. Two-Sided Printing: Confirm with your teacher if you can print on both sides of the paper for eco-friendly printing.

8. Title: Centre the title of your paper halfway down the page for prominence and clarity.

9. Name: Centre your name under the title to identify yourself as the author.

10. Teacher's Information: Write your teacher's name, course title, and date at the bottom, centred in three lines.

11. Font Consistency: Maintain consistency by using Times or Times New Roman font in 12 pt size for the cover page. Avoid using bold, underline, or decorative fonts.

12. Page Numbering and Count: Exclude the cover page from page numbering and total page count. It's not necessary to add a page number to the cover page.

How-To Geek

How to create custom cover pages in microsoft word.

A great cover page draws in readers.

Quick Links

How to add a ready-to-use cover page to your word document, how to create a custom cover page in microsoft word.

A great cover page draws in readers. If you use Microsoft Word, you're in luck, because Word has ready to use cover pages. But did you know that Word also lets you create custom cover pages? Here's how to use both.

Word includes some cover page templates you can insert and then customize a bit if you need a quick cover page for your document.

To find them, switch over to the "Insert" tab on Word's Ribbon and then click the "Cover Page" button. (If your window isn't maximized, you might see a "Pages" button instead. Click that to show the "Cover Page" button.)

On the drop-down menu, click the cover page you want to use.

You can now add your document title, subtitle, date, and other information, as well as change the design up a bit if you want.

Creating a cover page from a template is easy enough, but if you don't like any of the built-in designs, you can create your own. You can do this on an existing document, but it's easiest to start with a blank document. We're going to be saving the custom cover page so that you can quickly insert it into an existing document anyway.

You can create your cover page using pretty much any of Word's tools. You can add a background color, picture, or texture . You can also position those elements how you want and even apply Word's text wrapping tools to them.  Make it look however you want.

When it comes to content, you have a couple of options. You can just type the text you want, but that wouldn't make it much of a template unless you want the same text on the cover page every time you use it.

Instead, you can use Word's Quick Parts feature to add document properties to the document. To do that, switch over to the "Insert" tab and then click the "Quick Parts" button.

On the drop-down menu, point to the "Document Property" submenu, and you'll see a bunch of different properties you can insert into your document: author, title, company, publish date, and so on. Go ahead and insert whichever properties you want to appear on your title page.

When you're done, you'll have several fields on your page. When you insert your cover page into a document later on, those fields are populated with the actual properties from the document (and you can also edit them on the fly if you want).

They're super plain to start with, but you can treat them like any other text in Word by applying styles and formatting, centering them on the page---whatever. Here, we've centered them on the page, applied the Title style to the title, shifted things down on the page a bit, and inserted a filigree illustration for a little flair. It's not the prettiest cover page around, but it's a good working example.

Now that we've got our cover page the way we want it, it's time to create a cover page template out of it.

First, select everything in the document (that's why we recommend starting this in a blank document) by pressing Ctrl+A. Next, head back to the "Insert" tab and then click that "Cover Page" button again.

This time, choose the "Save Selection to Cover Page Gallery" command from the drop-down menu.

In the window that opens, give your cover page a name and fill out a brief description if you want. Click "OK" when you're done.

Now when you open the "Cover Page" drop-down menu in the future, you'll see your new cover page template in the "General" section. Click to insert it just like you would one of Word's built-in cover pages.

And that's it. Creating custom cover pages for your document is pretty easy once you know where to look. While you're at it, learn a few more quick tips on putting together professional-looking documents in Word .

Since 2016, she has covered smartphones, computer accessories, household electric appliances, and any product that helps bring convenience to one's life. Previously, she worked as an IT Analyst at TCS but found her calling at Guiding Tech.

In the last couple of years, I have tried many word-processing services , and still, Google Docs is one of my favorites. The ease with which lets me do my writing manages to win me over every single time. What’s more, the keyboard shortcuts are the icing on the cake.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs

However, apart from the standard word-processing features, Docs also has various cool features up its sleeves. For instance, you can make a timeline or a cover page for your project.

Yep, you heard us right! With Google Docs, you can design a neat cover page or title page for your assignment or project. And the good news is that it’s rather a simple affair.

Without further ado, let’s see how to make a cover page in Google Docs.

Making Your Own Cover Pages

Google Docs offers plenty of features to customize a document — be it adding image or messing around with different fonts and styles. To create your own cover letter, you’d have to put in some efforts as well as have an eye for creativity.

First off, you may want to add a border to your document. Sadly, Google Docs doesn’t have any native method to add borders. However, we have a nifty workaround in place. Here, we’ll have a table cell masquerading as a table border.

Step 1 : To add a page border, open File > Page Setup, lower the page margins, and hit the OK button.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 8

Step 2 : Next, click on Insert > Table > and select a cell.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 9

Now, all you have to do is drag the lower border to the bottom of the page, and ta-da! There’s your border added.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 10

Step 3: Now, you can go about your business of adding an image or adding text inside the cell just like any other document. You can even drag the image to the location of your choice.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 14

Just remember to choose the Wrap text option. Add the necessary text, and modify the font as you see fit, and you’ll have a rough structure of your cover page in no time.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 11

Other than that, if you plan to write over the image, the best option will be to utilize the Drawing tool. Here, you’d have all the tools at your disposal. So whether it’s adding text on images or clubbing a set of shapes, you can do a lot.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 12

After making the cover page, simply add the page numbers via Insert > Headers and page number > Page numbers. And that’s it. YOur cover page is almost ready. Just add the rest of the content.

How to Add an Attractive Cover Page

Don’t want to get down to all the complex stuff? After all, writing over a pre-formatted template is simple and easy. Thankfully, Google Docs has many templates in place for making an effective cover page. Though they may look a bit childish to some, you can always customize them as per your preference and project.

What I love about pre-formatted templates is that you don’t have to worry about the color theme in fonts.

Now that it’s settled, let’s get down to it.

Step 1: Open Google Docs and open the Template Gallery and scroll down to the Education section.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 1

Open any of the templates that suits your requirement the most.

Step 2: Now, this document is an open playbook, and you have to add your personal touches to it. For example, you can tweak the image or choose to replace it with a file from your PC. Or, if you want, you can change the color theme of the image on the cover page.

If you choose to tweak the image a bit, simply double click on it. To replace the image, right-click on it and select Replace image.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 5

The option to recolor it is available on the right panel. Click on the Recolor drop down and choose a color theme that sits best with your overall assignment. The same can be said of transparency and brightness.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 4

Perhaps, the best thing about Google Docs is that you can place an image anywhere you want. So, be it your company’s logo or some other small image, you can and move it a location of your choice.

Step 3: To replace the dummy text, double click on it, and add the appropriate title. The same is true of the name and other details.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 178

As we mentioned above, a template comes with its own color palette. Hence, to maintain the same theme across the document, the best thing would be to choose from the last line of color options.

Step 4: Last but not least, add the page number via Insert > Header and page number > Page number and choose the second option.

How To Make A Cover Page In Google Docs 7

Or, you can save the document as a template if you have a G Suite account. To do so, open the Template Gallery and click on the company name. Next, click on Submit Template button and select a document from your drive.

Create Cool Cover pages

And that’s not the end of the story. You can search the Internet for more refined templates, and then use it on your document. Or, if you’re on the mood to experiment, you can use either try Adobe Spark or Canva to whip up superb images. Having done that, you can simply import it to Google Docs. Yes, you can thank me later.

Next up: Again, Google Docs doesn’t a native method to add or play YouTube videos? If you are looking for a workaround, check out the post below.

28+ Best Free Assignment Cover Page Formats for MS Word

What is an assignment cover page, key elements for a comprehensive front page.

  • Institution Details: Begin by prominently featuring the name of your school, college, or institute. This establishes credibility and provides context for your assignment.
  • Personal Information: Include your own name to indicate authorship and ownership of the assignment. This adds a personal touch and facilitates easy identification.
  • Assignment Title: Clearly state the title of your assignment, conveying its purpose and focus. A concise and informative title sets the tone for your work.
  • Course Information: Specify the relevant course title or code to indicate the academic context in which your assignment was completed. This assists in proper categorization and organization.
  • Instructor’s Name: Acknowledge the teacher or professor who will be evaluating your assignment by including their name. This demonstrates respect and professionalism.
  • Due Date: Clearly indicate the deadline or due date for the assignment submission. This ensures timely assessment and helps you stay organized.

What are the basic tips?

  • Font style : It is always in the best interest to use bold, simple, and clear text instead of using fancy text fonts and styles. This helps the reader understand things in a better way.  Moreover, the usage of pictures behind texts must be avoided as it creates poor visibility for the reader when reading the text printed on it.
  • Presentation: Presentation plays an important role in expressing what you need to convey to someone and how you need to communicate it. Presenting the title page in the most effective manner is essential as this leaves an impression on the teacher reading the assignment. It also acts as a decisive tool for the teacher whether or not he/ she interestingly goes through the whole document.
  • Spell Check: Before handing over the assignment, one should take a brief review of all the spelling and also look for any grammatical errors.
  • Avoid plagiarism: A student must always be honest in what he writes. He should avoid copying material or texts from anywhere.
  • Personal detail: One should never forget to mention his/her name. The font size used for writing the name must be bigger so that it makes the name visible to the teacher.

Advantages of an Impressive Assignment Cover Page

  • Showcasing Professionalism: By meticulously designing your cover page, you demonstrate a strong commitment to professionalism. This attention to detail reflects positively on your work ethic and sets you apart as a dedicated student.
  • Creating a Positive Impression: A well-crafted front page sets the tone for your assignment, capturing the attention of your teacher or professor. It establishes a positive first impression, arousing their interest and encouraging them to delve further into your work.
  • Enhancing Visual Appeal: A visually appealing cover page enhances the overall presentation of your assignment. With carefully chosen fonts, colors, and layouts, you create an engaging and aesthetically pleasing introduction that captivates the reader’s attention.
  • Communicating Pertinent Information: It provides a concise summary of essential details, such as the assignment title, your name, and the due date. This ensures clarity and facilitates seamless identification and organization of your work.
  • Reflecting a Professional Attitude: By dedicating time and effort to creating an impressive cover page, you exemplify a professional attitude towards your academic pursuits. This level of dedication and care leaves a lasting impression on your teacher or professor.

Tips for Maximizing the Impact: Make Your Cover Page Stand Out

Maintain consistency with your assignment’s overall design and avoid using too many colors that may distract from the main message.
  • Opt for Legible Fonts: Use clear and readable fonts to enhance the accessibility and professionalism of your cover page. Avoid overly decorative or complex fonts that may hinder readability. Opt for fonts that align with your assignment’s tone and maintain consistency throughout the document.
  • Incorporate Relevant Graphics: Graphics can enhance the visual appeal of your cover page and reinforce the assignment’s subject matter. Choose images or icons that are directly related to the topic or convey the assignment’s main concept. Ensure that the graphics are high-quality and appropriately sized to maintain clarity.
  • Organize Information Effectively: Arrange the information in a logical and visually appealing manner. Use headings, subheadings, and bullet points to break down content and make it easier to read. Highlight key details such as the assignment title, your name, course information, and submission date.
  • Maintain Simplicity: While it’s important to make it visually appealing, avoid cluttering it with excessive elements. Keep the design clean and uncluttered, allowing the key information to stand out. Remember, simplicity often has a greater impact than complexity.
  • Preview and Proofread: Before finalizing, preview it to ensure that all elements are properly aligned and visually balanced. Proofread the content to eliminate any spelling or grammatical errors. A polished and error-free cover demonstrates your attention to detail and professionalism.

Young, Gay and Searching for Selfhood in 9/11-Era New York

IN TONGUES, by Thomas Grattan

Those who say that youth is wasted on the young ought to read a coming-of-age novel. “In Tongues,” Thomas Grattan’s second book, would cure any unwarranted nostalgia.

“In Tongues” follows the adventures of Gordon, a gay 20-something who, after a bad breakup, impulsively flees Minnesota for New York City. Grattan nails what it’s like to be so lonely, broke and without purpose that you weep on the subway. “My self-pity was large then,” our narrator tells us, “though maybe it was fear, the call and response of those two feelings so seamless it was difficult to distinguish follower and leader.”

It’s a novel of quest, Gordon in search of remedy for youth’s various ills. The pace is brisk; in mere pages, Gordon has found a bad job, a grim apartment and a friendly barkeep called Janice. Chosen family is one bulwark against solitude available to the queer; the other is sex. Gordon seeks this in the park, under cover of night or on the street, with passing strangers. The author’s frankness is welcome respite from the poetry too many aspire to: “As he moved into me roughly and without warning … I breathed deeply, working to feel what was good underneath that pain until good won out.”

It’s not hard for a comely young lad to find sex. What Gordon desires is validation. When an admirer studies him as one might a “precious mineral,” he allows, “I wanted to be that. Wanted, too, not to need his look to authenticate my value.” Poverty and purpose are more intractable problems, but fate brings Gordon into the circle of the West Village sophisticates Philip and Nicola. Seventy-year-old Philip is a blue-blooded art dealer; Nicola is his much younger Italian partner. Soon enough, Gordon has a slightly less bad job as their personal assistant.

The cover shows a panting dog’s mouth with several drops of saliva, against a hot pink background. The title is rendered above in red over a cream-colored background.

He assumes his strange role in these men’s lives — managing household tasks, yes, but also joining their dinner parties, where he’s introduced as “Friend Gordon.” The book jacket proclaims this work “steamy,” so maybe we’re meant to be titillated. In fact, these guys are less ménage à trois than modern family. Philip and Nicola supplant Gordon’s distant and lightly drawn mother and absentee father, an ineffectual guy with deep religious convictions. The younger man even wears his boss’s cast-off clothing, as a son might his dad’s. Yes, Gordon has a sexual encounter with Nicola, but it’s an exploratory one, almost innocent, something that may well strike straight readers as “steamy.”

Gordon cannot summon desire for Philip, but still delights in his attention: “Though I had no interest in sleeping with him, I didn’t want him to stop looking either.” This is something Grattan returns to a little too often, his novel less concerned with tongues than eyes, in seeing and being seen. “Once, in fourth grade,” Gordon relays, “the closest thing I’d understood about my interest in men and boys being a special attention I paid them, one of the Mikes in my class slammed me against a wall before I realized I’d been staring.” Now, Gordon wants to be looked upon, relishing “the thrill of being considered eye candy.”

His attempts to fit into this rarefied milieu are cringe-worthy — he’s rough around the edges in a way that his beauty cannot wholly offset. The real heartbreak comes in his romance with Pavel, an art star attached to Philip’s gallery. It’s maybe too inevitable that Pavel paints him. Gordon recalls that “an overeager student teacher once gave us an assignment to discuss a superpower we wished we had. I wrote about being invisible.” Now, at last, he is seen, and rendered on canvas. He might just be a masterpiece. But he cannot hold onto Pavel’s affection, just as he (inevitably) falls out of his bosses’ favor.

Gordon takes detours on the road to himself: accompanying Philip to Europe (they’re marooned there after the attacks of Sept. 11, more historical coincidence than something the novel undertakes to address); following Pavel to Mexico City; and in the book’s penultimate act, reuniting with his estranged father in Milwaukee. This is the novel’s most compelling section — Gordon ekes out a living, runs afoul of his pious father’s homophobia, and, to use the author’s favored metaphor, finally comes into focus for the reader.

“In Tongues,” like any bildungsroman, concludes once the hero has reached maturity. Grattan provides a coda. It’s not fair to call it a plot twist when Gordon, older and more established, reunites with Philip, now dying. The reader expects it, even demands it. The sexual charge has mellowed into warm feeling, as the book becomes an elegy for every gay reader rejected by a parent (and, tacitly, a generation of gay men robbed of their elders by AIDS). I was happy to see Gordon not simply surviving but thriving. Getting old is bittersweet, but growing up is a relief.
