Invitation of Applications for 2022/2023 Housemanship / Internship Programme at Nigerian Navy Reference Hospitals Ojo Lagos and Calabar

The Nigerian Navy, in pursuance of its Corporate Social Responsibility, invites application from suitably qualified Nigerians for the 2022/2023 Housemanship/ Internship programme in the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospitals (NNRH) Ojo, Lagos and Calabar, Cross Rivers. 

ELIGIBILITY 

Candidates for the Housemanship/Internship programme must possess the following qualifications: 

a. MBBS/MBBCH or its equivalent from accredited institutions for medical doctors. Certificate of provisional registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

b. Bachelor of Dental Surgery or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Dental Surgeons. Certificate of provisional registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NNRH Calabar only). 

c. Doctor of Optometry and its equivalent from accredited institutions for Optometrists. Provisional professional license of the Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar).

d. Doctor/Bachelor of Pharmacy or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Pharmacists. Certificate of provisional registration with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

e. Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Medical Laboratory Scientists. Provisional license from Medical Laboratory Science of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

f. BSc Nursing or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Nurses. Certificate of provisional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

g. Bachelor in Physiotherapy/Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Physiotherapists. Provisional professional license of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

h. BSc Radiography/BRad or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Radiographers. Provisional professional License of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar).

j. BSc/HND Dental Therapy or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Dental Therapists. Provisional professional license of the Dental Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

k. BSGHND for Dental Technologists or its equivalent from accredited institutions for Dental Technologists. Provisional professional license of the Dental Technologists Board of Nigeria (NNRH Ojo and NNRH Calabar). 

METHOD OF APPLICATION 

Candidates are to forward written application with relevant documents to the Naval Headquarters. These relevant documents include current provisional practicing licence, certificate of registration with professional association, state of origin certificate and birth certificate. The application must also be accompanied with a curriculum vitae which must contain the candidate's contact phone number, email address and addresses of 3 referees one of whom must be from the candidate's institution. Note that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview. Entries close 14 October 2022. All applications and relevant documents are to be submitted to the address below:

Medical House officers are doctors who just graduated from medical school and are currently undergoing their one-year mandatory training program in a hospital approved and licensed by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria ( MDCN ) for their permanent license.

When medical students graduate from medical school in Nigeria , what they get is just a temporary license that is valid for just 1 year. A one-year training program is mandatory to get a permanent license to practice as a physician in the country. And this license can be renewed on a yearly basis.

Medical housemanship is a term used to refer to this training program where freshly graduated doctors are trained for one year in order for them to qualify as medical officers.

The term medical housemanship is commonly mistaken for medical internship, however, they are very different.

While medical housemanship is used to describe the one-year skill-acquisition program for newly graduated doctors, medical internship, however, is used to describe a similar one-year program but for other health professionals that are not doctors like; nurses, radiographers, med lab scientists, physiotherapists, etc.
