Burj khalifa: world’s tallest building – essay sample.

Admin

Living in the 21st century means living in the age of technological wonders—considering, at least, you are living in a first-world or second-world country. Technological progress manifests itself in the surroundings of a modern individual, starting from coffee machines and ending up with larger-than-usual skyscrapers. Speaking of the latter, they have evolved greatly from the times of the Home Insurance Building in Chicago—the first skyscraper ever built. Today, the most technologically-advanced skyscraper is the famous Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

The Burj Khalifa (or how it was called until 2010, Burj Dubai) opened on January 14th, 2010. Even before the building construction was finished, starting from 2007, it had become the highest skyscraper in the world. Its exact height is 2,722 feet, or 829,8 meters, and it obviously can be seen from any point in Dubai. The number of floors, however, is a bit fewer than some might expects: Burj Khalifa totals in 163 floors, which is 16’2” (about 5 meters) for each floor.

Burj Khalifa looks like a stalagmite, which means it resembles vertical minerals growing from cave floors. Stalagmites usually have a shape of a cone, and so does Burj Khalifa; if you look at it from a distance, it will remind you of a gigantic sharp cone made of glass and steel.

The most impressive aspect about Burj Khalifa is that it had been planned to be a “city within the city”; this means inside the tower, you can find parks, alleys, districts, fountains, and so on. The glass of the tower’s surface always shines, because it is washed every single day, and the make of concrete of which the tower was built from was invented specifically for Burj Khalifa. There are three entrances to the tower, because it is so huge that one or two would not be enough. At the foot of the skyscraper, there is a big artificial lake that measures up to 12 hectares.

Inside, the building is as magnificent as it is from the outside. The interiors were projected by famous designers—for example, the interior of the Armani hotel, located on the floors from first to 39th, was designed by Giorgio Armani himself. The air inside Burj Khalifa is conditioned and flavored—it is said that the flavor was also designed exclusively for the tower; 57 elevators work 24 hours each day to transport visitors between floors.

Writing about Burj Khalifa is a thankless job. The existence of this building is a miracle itself, considering how it stands against the wind, gravity, and other natural forces. With a truly oriental luxurious scope, Burj Khalifa was designed and built to embody the impossible. And one can bravely state that nothing like this skyscraper has ever been built on Earth before.

Burj Khalifa: Behind A Wall of Text Essay

Defining the key terms, what the terms refer to, concerning three main ideas.

Several important terms in the paper are worth paying closer attention to. According to the existing definitions, the terms below can be interpreted in the following way:

  • A spire is a sharp pointy element at the top of a building
  • Reflective may be interpreted in several ways:thoughtful; able to reflect
  • Recreation facilities mean places to have rest and fun on
  • To enable means to make something capable of something
  • Inauguration can be defined as the opening ceremony.
  • Residential is the one in which a person can live (as opposed to the place where office premises re located).
  • A sky lobby is the hall of a skyscraper.
  • The terms and words highlighted in the paper refer to the following words:
  • “Measuring” refers to the Dubai Burj Khalifa and denotes its height.
  • “Situated” refers to the Dubai Burj Khalifa and denotes its position.
  • “Designed” refers to the Dubai Burj Khalifa (impressive skyscraper).
  • “Which” refers to 162 floors.
  • “This” refers to the fact that Burj was built for residential purposes; i.e., “this fact.”
  • “Its” (parking spaces and elevators) refers to the Dubai Burj Khalifa.
  • “Its” (exterior) refers to the Dubai Burj Khalifa.
  • “These” refers to reflective glass panels of the Burj Khalifa.

The paper incorporates several key ideas. Three of them are described below.

Location and dimensions of the Burj Khalifa

Starting, appropriately enough, with the description of the place in which the Burj Khalifa located, the author of the article provides not only a brief mentioning of the specifics of the area, such as the man-made lake, which the building is situated on, but also the numerical data concerning the Burj Khalifa.

For instance, the author mentions that the building is 828 meters high, that its top can be spotted 95 meters away and that the building is almost twice as high as the famous New York Empire State Building, which is only 443 meters high. Therefore, it can be concluded that the first topic raised by the author is “Location and dimensions of Burj Khalifa.”

Internal features of the Burj Khalifa

One must admit that the author of the article provides a very detailed description of the Burj Khalifa’s interior. When reading the article, one can feel inside the Burj Khalifa. Indeed, the images of office floors, sky lobbies and swimming pools literally come to life. While the article does not mention the exterior much, only saying that it is covered with glass, the insides of the building are depicted in a very graphic manner.

Materials and construction of the Burj Khalifa

The author of the article also provides a very detailed description of the material, which the Burj Khalifa was made of. Therefore, the third and the final theme that the author touches upon can be referred to as “materials and construction of the Burj Khalifa.”

According to what the author says, to create the building, more than 330,000 cubic meters of concrete was required. In addition, in the course of building the place, 31,400 metric tons of steel was used. As for the exterior of the building, which has also been mentioned in the article briefly, 28.261 reflective glass panels cover the walls on the outside.

The author also mentions the issues that are related to the specifics of the building construction, such as the fact that 15,000 liters of water are collected from the air conditioning system annually. Later used for gardening purposes, this is quite an impressive amount of water, the author says.

Topic Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the tallest free-standing structure in the world. Before its inauguration in 2010, the building was called the Burj Dubai. Located on the coast of Dubai, this building is considered to be a modern icon. Dubai's tallest building The interior of the Burj Khalifa, Dubai's tallest building, features more than 3 million square feet of interior space. The interior design process began in the early stages of the structural and architectural development. The SOM interiors team drew inspiration from the region and its culture. The shape of the building is reminiscent of a shamrock, and the soaring structure evokes the idea of a stationary spacecraft. When the oil boom in the UAE came along, the rulers of Dubai put into motion a plan to make the city a popular tourist destination. The Burj Khalifa was a key part of the tourist plan. The building stands over 2,717 feet tall with 160 floors. It holds several Guinness World Records, including tallest human-made structure and highest restaurant. It is over half a mile tall, and has a 102-metre-high observation deck. World's tallest free-standing structure The Burj Khalifa is the tallest free-standing structure in the world, with 160 stories and 154 usable floors. It also features six underground levels and one million square feet of space. It began construction in 2004 and took about six years to complete. The cost was around $1.5 billion. It was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The two main architects were Adrian Smith and Bill Baker. The previous tallest structure was the KVLY-TV mast in North Dakota, which was 629m high. It was the tallest building in the western hemisphere for a while and was also the second tallest broadcasting mast in the world. Built in 1963, it cost around $500,000 USD to construct. The Burj Mubarak al-Kabir, a tower in Kuwait, will reach 3,284 ft in 2026. In addition, the Jeddah Tower is slated to be completed by 2020. Eventually, the skymile tower will dwarf all of these buildings with its incredible height of 5,577 ft. Highest outdoor observation deck The highest outdoor observation deck in the world can be found at Level 148 of the Burj Khalifa. Although the view from this deck is stunning at any time, the views at sunset are especially breathtaking. The sun sets in the haze of the city, and the view is framed in dusky colors. Visitors can view Dubai and its skyline from the 148th floor of the Burj Khalifa. There are also observation decks on the 125th and 124th floors. Although they are not as high, they are still well worth the price. Ticket prices start at just 200AED for non-prime hours and rise to 300AED at prime sunset times. Visitors can purchase tickets to the Burj Khalifa at the Dubai Mall or on the website. Tickets are also available online at third-party websites, which offer discounts. Ticket prices depend on the floor of the observation deck and the time of day. A standard experience ticket, which gives access to levels 124 and 125, costs $45 during prime hours. Art in the lobby The Burj Khalifa is one of the tallest buildings in the world and its lobby is home to an art installation that features a piece by internationally acclaimed artist Jaume Plensa. The sculpture, World Voices, is composed of 196 cymbals that represent the different cultures of the world. The 196 cymbals are suspended from two pools of water and are composed of different materials and are meant to represent the 196 nations that make up the world. The art installation is set to run until January 2022 and will feature works by internationally renowned artists. The exhibit features new and previously unseen works and research on colour, light and materiality. It will feature seven pieces from the artist's Alice series, which was first realized in 2017. Cost of a trip to the top A trip to the top of the Burj Khalifa can be expensive. There are many ways to cut the cost of visiting the tower, including skipping the line and buying tickets online. You'll find that the general admission ticket is the most affordable option. Buying tickets online will save you time and frustration in lines, and will also skip the second line at the ticketing counter. A general admission ticket will cost you around 38 euros per person. It's also possible to purchase a skip-the-line ticket for 55 euros. To make the most of your visit, make sure you book in advance. While the views from each level are similar, higher-level experiences are more expensive. If you can afford it, consider booking a trip to the top during sunset.
