Essay on grandmother

Essay on Grandmother: ‘Have you ever wondered what the circumstances surrounding your family may have been in the absence of an elderly figure? How would your parents have asked for advice when making certain decisions? When your parents scolded you, who would have pampered you? We as children are closer to our grandparents, especially our grandmother than any member of our family. Grandmother teaches us how to love, respect, care, and become responsible in life. God has blessed us with grandmothers because of their caring love and respectful attitude towards everyone.’

‘Grandmother wakes up early in the morning and takes care of family stuff. She manages all the house choirs and prepares breakfast for everyone. In her free time, she sits on her rocking chair on the balcony and murmurs songs. Everyone in the family respects her and reaches out to her for her guidance.’

‘This loving member of our family is getting old and she deserves the best care. Grandmother endured all the family’s sufferings and made sacrifices for everyone. They never discriminate against their grandchildren and have equal love for everyone, They are always there for us, guiding us through here decades of experience and teaching us the realities of life.’

We often get to hear that grandmothers are emotionally closer to their grandchildren than their parents. This is because we as children spend more time with them and they have a golden heart. Consider this example: our parents often say ‘no’ to things we like or want, but our grandmother always considers our interests and tries their best to keep us happy. They don’t want to see us sitting sad in a corner and feeling neglected.’

Grammy or Granny, Oma, or Abuela. No matter what you called her, your grandmother helped make you who you are today. And the loss of a beloved grandmother is often one of the first we experience. If you're an adult, you may be asked to write a eulogy for your grandmother, which can feel like a daunting task.

Jump ahead to these sections:

Steps for writing a thoughtful eulogy for grandma, eulogy examples for a grandmother, short tribute messages for a grandmother.

When you’re writing a eulogy for a grandmother, you may not know where or how to begin. If you shared a close bond with your grandmother, it could be even more difficult to express all of those feelings in one short speech.

Below, we’ll outline some helpful tips for writing a eulogy for a grandmother. We’ll also provide some examples of eulogies for grandmothers to spark your inspiration.

If writing a eulogy is just one of your tasks after losing a grandmother, our post-loss checklist can help you and your family sort through it all.

steps for writing a eulogy for a grandmother

Writing a eulogy for a grandmother isn't a one-step process. It takes preparation, time, and thought. However, writing a eulogy for grandma can be a cathartic and rewarding experience that ultimately leaves you feeling more settled and clear-minded about your grief. It can help you remember times you spent with your grandmother that were especially valuable and which you want to remember forever.

Here are the steps that we recommend for writing a eulogy for your grandmother.

1. Take some time to reflect

After any loss, it’s important to take time to reflect and grieve. You may only have a short time to compose a eulogy before the funeral, but you might be able to take a few hours away for yourself.

Treat yourself to a relaxing bubble bath or some quiet reflection. Think about the time you spent with your grandmother while she was here, and allow yourself to grieve.

2. Write down your unedited thoughts and feelings

Once the thoughts and emotions are freely flowing, grab paper and pen and begin to write. Don’t try to edit your writing at this point—write down whatever comes to you.

Think about the answers to some of these questions, if you need some inspiration:

  • What’s your fondest memory of your grandmother?
  • What do you admire most about the life your grandmother lived?
  • What’s the first memory you have with your grandma?
  • Did you see your grandmother as a role model? If so, how?
  • What was the thing you and your grandmother loved doing together?
  • What’s a joke you shared that no one else understood?
  • What smells, sounds, or sights will always remind you of your grandmother?
  • What’s your favorite thing about your grandmother?

Do you know how you want to be remembered?

Let your loved ones know. Create a free Cake end-of-life planning profile and share your funeral, legacy, legal, and health choices instantly.

3. Find out how much time you have

Composing a eulogy for a grandmother also involves some logistic considerations, like time limits. Your family is probably hosting the funeral, so you’ll have leeway when it comes to time.

If another person is hosting the memorial, or if you’ll have a priest or funeral director leading the service, make sure to find out how much time you have to give a eulogy.

You might also find out if other people will be giving eulogies at the funeral. If not, your speech will carry more weight. If several other people are preparing eulogies, you might speak with them and find out what they plan to say.

4. Brainstorm ideas for the speech

You already put your initial thoughts and feelings to paper in Step 2. Now, it’s time to create a more deliberate brainstorm, incorporating those ideas.

Look at all of the anecdotes, personality traits, and memories you jotted down. Think of how you would phrase those ideas if you were sharing them with friends or family. The tone of your eulogy should be respectful but conversational, and ultimately positive in nature.

If one story stands out to you as especially important, you can center your eulogy around it. If there’s a common theme amongst all of your ideas (i.e., your grandma’s loving attitude, sense of humor, etc.), you can use that theme to flesh out your speech.

5. Create an outline for your eulogy

An organized and logical outline will make the writing process faster and smoother. It will help you create a eulogy for your grandmother that makes sense and pays tribute at the same time.

For your outline, you’ll want to include the following template:

Introduction

Introduce yourself, if it’s a large audience with some attendants who might not know you. Let the attendees know that you’re the grandson or granddaughter of the deceased.

This part should take about 30 seconds or less. If you need more help, read our guide on how to start a eulogy .

Next is the body of your speech. This is where you’ll talk about your grandmother in more detail and share one or two memories. Organize the thoughts you put down in your brainstorm, either according to a theme or chronologically.

Create 5 to 10 subpoints in this section—one for each talking point or brainstorm idea you want to touch upon.

You’ll finish your eulogy by providing a final, short memory of your grandmother, or an all-encompassing depiction of her and her life.

You can close with what you’ll miss most about your grandmother and the things about her that you’ll most remember. You can also read our guide on how to end a eulogy for more tips.

6. Turn to family and friends

You might need more ideas for your eulogy, or you might want feedback on what you have so far. Either way, input from family and friends can be highly valuable when composing a funeral speech . Especially when you’re writing a eulogy for a grandmother, hearing your family’s memories and feelings can help you put yours into words.

Gather your family together to talk and reminisce about your grandmother. Ask them if they’ll be giving eulogies, and if not, if they’d like you to include anything on their behalf.

7. Sit down and write

Finally, it’s time to write your eulogy. You might be struggling with sadness and grief, but the sooner you put pen to paper and compose your eulogy, the better.

Take the outline you created and your brainstorm, and flesh out the introduction, body, and conclusion. For the introduction, you can lead to your speech by giving the overarching theme of the stories you’ll tell. Or, you can simply introduce yourself and start talking about your grandmother and the life she led.

In the body of your eulogy, you should include transitions from one story or explanation to another. Organize your thoughts along a logical timeline, and don’t try to fit in too much.

Conclude your eulogy by showing appreciation to the funeral attendees. Share any last words you have for the audience or words that you’d like to share with your grandmother directly.

8. Take some time away

After you’ve written your speech, it’s a good idea to set it aside for a short time. Leave the eulogy alone for a day, if you can, and come back to it with fresh eyes. This will allow you to experience your eulogy from the perspective of a listener.

It may also help to have someone read your speech back to you or use the “Read Aloud” function on Microsoft Word to listen to your words.

9. Consider the tone of your eulogy

When you re-read or listen to your speech, consider its tone. The tone of a eulogy should be respectful but generally casual. You can share feelings of grief—for example, “I was heartbroken when I found out my dear grandmother had passed.” However, the overall message of a eulogy should be uplifting and positive.

Focus on how your grandmother impacted the world in a positive way while she was alive and how her legacy will live on.

10. Revise and rewrite

You might have to edit and rewrite your eulogy multiple times before it’s just right. It’s okay to create a rough draft, and then decide to start all over again. Getting the right tone and conveying your genuine feelings isn’t easy to do on the first try.

11. Memorize and practice

Finally, decide how you’ll memorize your eulogy speech. Will you memorize the speech you wrote, word-for-word? That can take a great deal of time, and it often leads to an unnatural presentation. Alternatively, you can jot down the key points of your speech, and bring a notecard with you.

You may also choose to read your eulogy, rather than memorize it. If you read your speech, though, try to memorize it to some extent so that you can look up from the page periodically.

Practice giving your eulogy multiple times until you feel comfortable. Public speaking is nerve-wracking for nearly everyone, and it’s okay to feel nervous. What’s important is that you pay your grandmother tribute with a heartfelt speech.

example eulogy for a grandmother excerpt

Sometimes, reading a eulogy example can help you to pen your own. Here are some examples of eulogies for a grandmother that we've created to help you in this task.

Eulogy example 1

Today, we are gathered here to remember and honor an amazing woman whose presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew her. Our beloved grandmother was not only the matriarch of our family but also a beacon of love and wisdom. Her life was a tapestry woven with threads of kindness, compassion, and laughter.

Grandma had a way of making everyone feel special, from her comforting hugs to her heartwarming stories that transported us to another time. Her kitchen was like heaven: aromas and flavors that became the essence of all of our family gatherings. Her wise words were like a steady compass, guiding us through life's challenges with grace and resilience.

Grandmother was a source of strength, and her nurturing spirit taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance. She had seen the world evolve through decades, and her experiences shaped her into a living embodiment of history and tradition. Her life was truly a testament to the power of love and the beauty of a life well-lived.

As we bid her farewell, let us hold onto the memories we've shared and the lessons she taught us. Let us continue to spread the love she created within our family and pass down her wisdom to the generations that follow. Though she may have left this world, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to live with kindness, compassion, and the wisdom she so graciously bestowed upon us.

Eulogy example 2

Dear friends and family,

Today, we gather to celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman whose creative spirit and storytelling prowess enriched our lives in countless ways. Our grandmother was a masterful weaver of tales, a painter of memories, and a sculptor of love. She didn't just live life; she transformed it into a masterpiece of wonder and imagination.

Her stories had the power to transport us to distant lands and bygone eras, igniting our imaginations and filling our hearts with delight. Her artistic endeavors knew no bounds, whether it was her beautiful tapestries, intricate crafts, or the enchanting worlds she painted with her words. She had a unique ability to see beauty in the ordinary and magic in the mundane.

Grandmother's artistic pursuits were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. Her home was a gallery of her creations, each piece telling a story of her boundless curiosity and endless creativity. She showed us that life is an intricate mosaic, and every moment is an opportunity to create something beautiful.

As we bid farewell to our beloved grandmother, let us remember the colors she added to our lives and the stories she etched into our hearts. Her legacy lives on not just in her artwork, but in the way she inspired us to find artistry in our own lives. Though she may have left this world, her creativity and imagination will forever guide us as we continue to shape our own stories.

From a grandson

  • Grandma may not have approved of everything we did, but the love she felt for us was unconditional. She never judged but tried to gently guide us in the right direction.
  • Grandmother’s favorite pastime was games: board games, card games, hide-and-seek when we were little, and games of all kinds. From a young age, we became enchanted by her world of games, and that joy will last for generations.

Woman dressed up, in wrinkles

The beautiful short woman, with a pale skin, having wrinkles all over the body, always left me stunned. How can one look so beautiful in a wrinkled skin? Well, the lady with the pale face, wrinkled skin, was wearing the most beautiful yellow traditional dress with the combination of orange; looks as if the sun and moon together spreading their brightness. Is my grandmother standing there? Oh! Yes it was my grandmother who was standing in the deep dark down of the night with all the brightness in her eyes.

My grandmother is one of the most beautiful women of my life. Who has not yet spent 100 years of life but of course 80 year of life span .My grandmother is full of religious thoughts. She believes that at attaining certain age a person should get involve himself or herself in god, in order to achieve salvation.

She believes that believing in god leads you to a certain positive energy which is further a basic principle of life. My grandmother do not believe the world of modernization as she believes that we are only copying the west countries and not trying to bring in our own method of modernization. She thinks the most important aspect of modernization is cleanliness, which India is far behind.

Who is a grandmother?

To understand the literal meaning of a grandmother, she  is a mother of the    father, but the word ‘grandmother’ has a much better meaning in one’s life, she is not only the mother of the father, but yes a person who always loves, takes care of the entire family, always try to lead you on right paths. For men may come, men may go, but a grandmother should never let be gone.

 Old is gold

It is rightly said that ‘old is gold’ the line helps me to explain well that being old, beautiful young and what not, she; my grandmother has always proved to be more than a gold in our lives. I have some most beautiful childhood memories with her, from helping her in household chores to not letting her to be alone when everyone not at home.

I have spent the most beautiful moments of life with my grandmother; from fighting with the siblings to sleep with her, or to ask for extra token of money than others, crying for each other when one had to leave, to not letting her stand with anyone else and even today after my marriage though we do not live together but the bond which we share is above all.

I feel the most luckiest that my marriage could happen in front of my grandparents and their blessings. Only some people could fulfill this desire.

Her lessons were always a blessing!

my grandmother

She has always tried to teach me the world of practicality, where she has always told me, how being a woman I can deal my life smoothly and correctly. Often, I’d wonder how anyone could live so long without much expectation from life neither with much health problems.

Then I remember that ‘ dadi ’ once told me, my fitness mantra is keep going and keep working as much as possible. Working hard keeps bringing new energies in us, and we do not become lazy. My grandmother is fond of animals, and have always taught me that no one can be a better friend than an animal, they will always stand by you and never betray.

So, therefore my grandmother has one buffalo, a dog, a rabbit and lots of pigeons. With them she tries to spend her most of the time. I am always compelled by myself to think will I ever be able to achieve what my grandmother has achieved all this while. Of course it’s a No but, will always try and understand her lessons, as they have always led me out of my difficult situations.

We are here

Let’s let them know that we are always there whenever they need us, let’s let them know that they have always lived for us and they have done a lot for us. Now it’s our turn to fulfill their wishes, though they do not expect much, but only a little care, a little attention and lots of love is what all they need. And they will fill our life with lots of brightness and happiness.

It is said that when old people live with you one have more disciplined, controlled life without much problems. A much more organised life is being lived. It is the truth that god is present in this world, it is us who have to find him in the form our parents, grandparents and children.

And talking about my grandmother, she has always been a god like personality in my life. I do not want to thank her, indeed want to tell her that I love her the most. She has been one of the greatest inspiration of life and her blessings were always a support to my life.

Delivery and Performance Tips

How you deliver your eulogy is just as important as the words you choose. If you’re worried about your delivery the these tips will help you give a powerful and heartfelt eulogy.

  • Practice beforehand: Take the time to rehearse your eulogy beforehand. It’s all about getting comfortable with what you’re going to say so you’re confident when you deliver it in front of others.
  • Speak slowly and clearly: When you’re nervous it’s easy to speak too quickly or fumble over your words. Instead try to tele a deep breath, relax and focus on speaking slowly and clearly.
  • Use body language: Your body language can convey just as much emotion as your words. Make eye contact with your audience, use hand gestures to emphasize important points and stand up straight with good posture.
  • Be authentic: Don’t try to be someone you’re not when delivering your eulogy. Speak from the heart and let your emotions show. Remember that it’s okay to show vulnerability and to let others see how much your grandmother meant to you.
  • Incorporate humor: If you feel it’s appropriate then share a funny or lighthearted story about your grandmother. It can help to break the tension and add some levity to the occasion. Just make sure that the humor is appropriate and respectful.
  • Take breaks if needed: Don’t worry about taking a moment to compose yourself if you become too emotional during your eulogy. Take a deep breath, collect your thoughts and continue when you’re ready.

Delivering a eulogy isn’t easy. Your emotions are likely to be high and you may not be comfortable with public speaking.

But if you practice beforehand and prepare fully you can make it much easier. In doing so you will deliver a eulogy that honors your grandmother’s memory and celebrates her life.

We named our kids after beloved relatives. My mother-in-law said my son's name was overused, but we gave it to him anyway.

  • My family is somewhat traditional, and baby names are handed down through the generations.
  • I love naming someone for a close relative to pay tribute to them.
  • My mother-in-law said one of the names we liked had been overused, but we went ahead anyway.

Insider Today

I recently met a grandfather, son, and grandson who shared the same name. They were called William Senior, William Junior, and William III.

While I'm not a fan of the Roman numerals, my family does much the same thing with the names we hand down .

It's not for everyone. My husband and I have been criticized for the "boring" manner in which we've named our kids after relatives — many of whom are deceased.

"Couldn't you have been more imaginative?" a friend once remarked.

I told her that we had some incredible role models in our family. And what better way for a child to honor their legacy than to share their name?

My mother-in-law initially disapproved of the name we planned for her grandson

Our 15-year-old daughter, Daisy Grace, is named for her paternal and maternal great-grandmothers . Both were wise, formidable women — but also kind.

Related stories

Meanwhile, our son, Robert, 13, shares the name of his late, charismatic paternal great-grandfather, late paternal grandfather, and eldest uncle. Robert is also my father's middle name.

When I was pregnant in 2010, my mother-in-law said she disapproved of our naming strategy at that particular time. "Robert is over-used in our family," she said.

We ignored her, thinking it was more important to pay tribute to our relatives. She has since come around to the idea.

She also understands why our son's middle name is Ridley, my maiden name. I didn't change my last name when I got married for professional reasons — and, more importantly, personal ones.

Without my son sharing at least one part of my name, Ridley would have died out with me. My dad is an only child, and my sister took her husband's last name when they got married .

My son is proud of his name because he admires his late granddad

I recently asked the kids if they liked their names . They said they did.

Daisy said she enjoyed learning about her late great-grandmothers. She looks at their photos and remarks on her resemblance to them.

Meanwhile, my son worships the memory of his paternal granddad, despite being a one-year-old when he died. He fought in World War II . Robert, a history buff, thinks he's hero because he survived the Battle of Arnhem while serving in a parachute division.

It would be nice if our children continued our naming tradition when they began to have families of their own. But there's no pressure. I've promised them that my nose won't be put out of joint if they don't.

By around 2 p.m., just after lunch, activity at the critical care unit of the Jayadeva hospital in Bengaluru, India, is at an ebb. No one is running down the halls with X-rays, bills or samples of body fluids to be tested. The morning rounds are over. The doctors are gone, and the nursing shift has just changed.

That’s when Girish Balakrishnappa walks in. He is a staff nurse but has the demeanor of a teacher. He starts off by asking everyone to put their phones on silent and gather around. Patients who can walk drag chairs toward him. Those who can’t walk sit up in their beds. Others are asleep, their family members taking notes for them.

Girish Balakrishnappa, a nurse, speaks as he walks between rows of seated patients and their family members in a hospital ward.

Over the next hour, the nurses, physicians and technicians fall back, ceding the floor to Mr. Balakrishnappa as the ward morphs into an intensive care unit classroom. The students are anxious cardiac care patients, some of whom have only just awakened from open-heart surgery, and their even more anxious families. Mr. Balakrishnappa will tell them how to cough without stressing their hearts, how to scratch without ripping open their wounds and how a pacemaker works.

He will explain that having open-heart surgery does not mean the doctors will remove the heart. In India, where health care walks hand in hand with superstition, myths and luck, Mr. Balakrishnappa helps patients sift through good and bad information — a matter of life and death both inside a critical care ward and after patients are discharged.

This ad hoc classroom is part of a decade-long experiment unfolding in Asia that has been testing a simple yet radical idea: If patients are most comforted by their loved ones, why not involve them in the medical process and see how that affects recovery?

This approach also emerged as part of a solution to the enduring problems faced by health systems across the world that were battered by the Covid-19 pandemic. The World Health Organization estimates that between 80,000 and 180,000 health care workers may have died of Covid-19 between January 2020 to May 2021, which created a dangerous shortage in the work force.

Today, India has one doctor for every 834 people, compared with a rate of around 2.4 doctors for every 1,000 people in the United States. But only 80 percent of Indian doctors are allopathic, or practicing Western medicine. The rest practice traditional healing such as Ayurveda, naturopathy, homeopathy or Unani medicine. Similar shortages plague India’s nursing industry, where there are just 1.7 nurses per 1,000 people, compared with 12.7 in the United States.

Those numbers are important, but the lesson behind them is equally so: how a lack of communication between doctors and patients affects patient health. According to Noora Health, which has introduced its “care companion” program in hundreds of hospitals and thousands of clinics in India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, when medical information is properly communicated to patients and their families, not only are common post-surgery complications reduced, but so are acts of violence by frustrated family members against health care workers.

“We realized that caregivers get little to no guidance within the health care system,” said Shahed Alam, a co-founder of Noora Health, a Bengaluru-based nonprofit. “Many patients do not know why they are in the hospital, what’s going to be done to them. Doctors and nurses go from patient to patient, repeating the same information.”

By training hospital staff to train patients and their family members, he added, “It reduces the palpable anxiety in the ward.”

During the pandemic, Noora Health’s work became even more relevant: The lockdown turned family members into primary care givers for Covid-19 patients and for those with complex illnesses like tuberculosis and cardiac problems. The organization responded by expanding virtual training programs and developing new guidelines for respiratory hygiene, mental health and health care worker safety.

Many patients and their family members come to see Mr. Balakrishnappa as a therapist, coach, friend and philosopher all rolled into one. He teaches patients about everything from managing their side effects to the importance of hand washing. He wraps up each class with breathing exercises.

At the end of each class, Mr. Balakrishnappa takes questions, most of which are about diet and the side-effects of medicines. Some patients wonder how much longer they will be in the I.C.U. He patiently answers every question. By the end of their stay, patients and families have fortified their bonds by sharing the sacred space of life and death.

“There is strength in this. They form human connections that are needed to survive their medical conditions,” Mr. Balakrishnappa explained to me. After a full day of teaching patients how to navigate the hospital, he catches a quick lunch in the canteen when I sit down with him. I ask him if he gets bored repeating the same things over and over.

“Never. If I get bored, people lose lives,” he replied. “Most of my patients are not educated, don’t speak English, and it is important that they have all the information they need, or else they will not make a full recovery.”

Patients, too, tell me that the time they spend with Mr. Balakrishnappa is the high point of their day — and having high points inside a hospital is no small thing. I asked Dilip Kumar, a 9-year-old boy who spent a month in the I.C.U. after being treated for a hole in his heart, what was the most helpful advice he received. He thinks for a bit before explaining that Mr. Balakrishnappa had warned him he’d be scared when he woke up after surgery in the recovery ward.

“He told me to not to panic or pull at the wire attached to me and told me that my mom will not be allowed inside the ward,” Dilip replied, “and that I have to be twice as brave inside the operating theater and in the recovery ward, where I’ll be alone. But only for a bit.”

Three days after his discharge, I visited Dilip at home in the gold-mining district of Kolar, outside Bengaluru. His favorite thing about being home was that he was not “cold all the time due to the air-conditioner.” He was still wearing his face mask, as Mr. Balakrishnappa had instructed. It covered most of his tiny face but it was easy to tell when he smiled — the kind of smile many children have that goes from their mouth to their eyes.

His mother, Manjula, was making sure everyone in the family was following hand hygiene as taught at the hospital. She told me that Dilip missed the nursing staff and, “of course, Girish.” She missed him too, she added. “He was a friend, and it was unexpected to make friends at such a big hospital,” she said, adding that they talk about Mr. Balakrishnappa at home all the time.

“Without him, I would not have been able to go through this,” she said. “He taught me how to take care of my child.”

A girl wanted to help buy her mom’s headstone. She made a lemonade stand.

essay for grand mother

Emouree Johnson looked around at the graves in a northern Alabama cemetery last month and noticed her mother’s looked different from the rest.

The 7-year-old saw granite and marble headstones jutting out from the grass near other graves, inscribed with epitaphs. But beside her mother’s grave stood a green postcard-size marker with her name and a generic sunset photo printed on white paper.

Emouree pointed at the other headstones and asked, “Why doesn’t mommy have one of those?,” recalled Jennifer Bordner, the girl’s grandmother. They visited the cemetery on Easter to lay flowers for Emouree’s mother, Karli Bordner, who died weeks earlier at the age of 29.

A headstone would cost at least $500, which the family was working to save, Jennifer Bordner said she explained to her granddaughter.

Emouree wanted to pitch in. The next day, she set up a lemonade stand at the Scottsboro, Ala., house where she lives with Bordner. Emouree asked family members to share photos of her stand on social media to help spread the word about her cause.

“I knew my grandmother didn’t have the money,” Emouree told The Washington Post. “And I was really trying to help her.”

The photos of the stand — which showed Emouree sitting outside with a clear pitcher of lemonade, a green bucket of ice and a stack of red Solo Cups — were shared so widely that over the next week, hundreds of people started visiting the stand and donating to an online fundraiser. Emouree ultimately helped raise about $15,000.

“I never expected this,” said Bordner, 53. “And I’m still trying to catch my breath.”

Bordner’s daughter and granddaughter had been living with her in Scottsboro for about three years. She described the relationship between her daughter and Emouree as “one of those mommy-daughter best-friend type of things.”

They had a special saying they would repeat to each other: “One, four, three. That’s enough for me, always and forever,” the digits representing the number of letters in the phrase “I love you,” Bordner said.

“She was all for her daughter,” she said of Karli Bordner. “That was her whole world.”

Karli Bordner helped teach Emouree how to play soccer, basketball and softball, then cheered her on at games. They spent hours after school dancing and making TikTok videos. When Emouree brought report cards home with straight As, Karli Bordner took her shopping for makeup products her daughter had seen on YouTube.

On March 12, Emouree and Jennifer and Karli Bordner spent the night curled up in the same bed, watching Adam Sandler movies before they all fell asleep. And just before Emouree nodded off, she said she and Karli Bordner whispered to each other:

One, four, three. That’s enough for me, always and forever.

It was one of the last things Emouree heard her mother say.

The next morning, Bordner said her daughter left the house. Police later arrived at her door to report that Karli Bordner had been found dead. The family is still waiting to hear from authorities about an official cause, Bordner said.

The days that followed were grief-stricken. Emouree pored over the videos she had made with her mother, Bordner said. When she received her next report card, Emouree tried to call her mother’s cellphone, hoping to share the news about her good grades.

“She was still waiting for her mommy to come in and give her a hug,” Bordner said.

On March 17, which would have been Karli Bordner’s 30th birthday, the family hosted a balloon release. They buried her at the cemetery in Guntersville, Ala., the next day and visited her grave again on Easter to lay flowers.

That was when Emouree noticed the marker and had the idea to start a lemonade stand. She asked to stop by a produce stand on the way home from the cemetery.

“I bought four lemons,” Emouree told The Post. “And I thought it would help.”

She opened the stand on April 1, selling her lemonade for $1 per cup.

As photos of her stand spread on social media that week, people turned out in droves. Strangers showed up with batches of fresh lemons to help keep her stand going. Donations started pouring in.

“All of a sudden, they’re calling and saying that all these city officials are coming, several different fire departments, there’s people coming from Tennessee,” Bordner said. “I don’t know where all these people come from, but it’s been a lot.”

Emouree poured lemonade for five days. Her grandmother recalled her saying, “I cannot believe so many people care for and love my mommy.”

“She was really excited about it,” Bordner said.

Between the lemonade stand and online donations , she said the family received enough to cover funeral costs plus start an account for Emouree to use in the future.

As for the headstone, a company is now donating one to the Bordners.

They haven’t decided when it will replace the marker at the cemetery, but Bordner said they do know what it will say:
