IGNOU PhD Selection Criteria

At IGNOU, entrance exams are used to select students for Ph.D. programs. General Instructions for submitting Online Application

• You need to register first, before filling of the online entrance application form.
• Click on the button  NEW REGISTRTION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
• Fill in the UserName and password in the appropriate columns correctly.
• Remember, while choosing your  UserName it must be in between 8 to 16 characters.
• While choosing your  password  it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
• After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
• Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.
• Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
• If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the "LOGIN" button.

Instructions pertaining to Reservation of Seats, Fees and Exam pattern for PhD Entrance Test – 2022

•  The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time.  Appendix II of the Information Brochure  may be referred in this regard.  
• Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong  (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2022).
• Submission of application forms will be online only.  Entrance Examination is compulsory for all candidates including MPhil / NET / JRF etc., for admission to Research Degree Programmes. No exemption from appearing for the Entrance Test is permissible.
• Application Fee for  submission of online application is  Rs 1000.  
•    Application fee is  non-refundable.
•    No request for   change in category,   shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
• Applicants are advised to submit onle application only, as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
• Eligibility for appearing in the Entrance Test  is subject to the candidate fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the IGNOU Regulations  for conduct of Research Programmes which is as under: 

A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, provided he/she:

   ....... Possesses Master’s Degree  from a University recognized by UGC or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in such fields of study as are notified for the purpose from time to time by the University with at least  55% marks [50% marks in the case of SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy Layer), EWS and Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of UGC from time to time. *

* Note : Applicants are requested to carefully go through the eligibility criteria as per the details mentioned at Annexure –II and make sure that they fulfill the same. If any discrepancy is found at a later stage, the University reserves all the rights to not consider such cases.

8.  In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

9.  Weightage of Entrance Test is 70% and 30% weightage is for the Interview.

10. 50% is the qualifying marks  in the Entrance Test for  Open Category.  For  SC/ST/OBC, EWS /PWD, the qualifying mark is  45% .

11. Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.

  Syllabus and Question paper

• a)   The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of MPhil / PhD Degrees) Regulations, 2022  comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject.
• b)   The question paper shall have  questions consisting of  50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject .

The admission to the Phd programs is strictly based on a performance achieved in the PhD Entrance Examination and Interview. Thereafter, IGNOU will release the final list of shortlisted candidates who are selected to get admission in selected disciplines.

IGNOU PhD 2024 Highlights

It is to inform all candidates that both category students have to attend the classes at the allotted centre to accomplish their course work given by the university. The student must have 80% attendance in the course work to be eligible for the term-end examination.

How to Apply for IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2024?

• Students can easily apply for Ph.D. Entrance Examination through online mode. Interested candidates have to click on the given application link and then click on the “Online Application Form” link for Ph.D. July 2023. After the click, you will go to the registration section where you have to click on New Registration to begin your registration procedure.
• Candidates have to fill all sections including the Registration and Application Form without any spelling mistakes
• Once you fill in the above details, it is mandatory to upload your recent passport-size scanned photograph and digital signature. A scanned photograph must be less than 200 KB in size and Signature must be less than 30 KB. After uploading, you have to re-verify your application with all the details that you provided to the university before submitting it. You can also get a print of your Application form before proceeding with payment.
• After checking your application, candidates have to pay their application fee by online mode. After completion of payment, you will get a payment receipt so keep it safe with you for any future reference.
• After successful payment, you will receive a notification or confirmation via SMS or through your registered email ID. If you didn’t get any confirmation then, please contact the IGNOU Ph.D. support team as fast as possible.
• Candidates have to note down their Application Number to login into the Ph.D. entrance portal to download their Admit Card and Result in the future.

It is compulsory to register yourself to fill out your application form online. Once you have paid your fees for the entrance exam will not be refundable to the candidate in any circumstances. There are no documents to needed submit while filling out an application form for Ph.D.  All original documents will have to be produced at the time of the Interview taken by the university.

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam Structure 2024

We can understand that many of the students are confused regarding the syllabus and structure of the Ph.D. Entrance Examination. • Submission of application for PhD Programme will be online only. The candidate can only apply for one Programme as the Entrance Test shall be conducted for all the Programmes on the same day.
• Application Fee for  submission of online application is  Rs 1000.  
• Application fee is  non-refundable.
• The number of seats to be advertised in different categories (GEN/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) is as per the Reservation Policy for Research Degree Programmes and DOPT,Govt of India .norms amended from time to time.  Appendix II of the Information Brochure  may be referred in this regard. 
• No request for   change in reservation category,   shall be entertained once the application has been successfully submitted.
• Five percent (5%) seats shall be reserved for Persons with Disabilities (with not less than 40% disability). However such candidates shall be adjusted against the appropriate category (Gen/SC/ST/OBC/EWS) to which they belong (Ref.Annexure II of Information Brochure 2023).
• Candidates awarded with fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests, as per the validity specified by the regulatory bodies, shall be exempted from Entrance Test and their selection will be based on interview. These candidates shall be considered as Category- A. Such candidates have to upload their valid fellowship award letter from the concerned implementing / awarding agency.
• For Category A Candidates , interview shall carry 100% weightage. All eligible candidates from Category A will be called for the interview.
• For Category B Candidates , the Entrance Test shall carry a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage shall be given to the interview. Those who secure at least 50% marks in the Entrance Test (45% marks in case of SC/ST/OBC (Non Creamy layers) / Differently abled persons and EWS) will be shortlisted for the interview in order of merit subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats.

Stage II: Interview:

• Eligible candidates from Category A & Category B shall be called for interview before the Discipline Specific Admission committee. Information in this regard shall be uploaded on the University website. The respective disciplines/ schools will communicate regarding the requirement for the interview.
• The interview shall have three components comprising Research Methodology (40%) Subject domain (40%) and Communication Skills (20%).
• Admission to the Ph.D Degree Programmes is strictly on merit, based on the performance in the Entrance Test and Interview taken together.
• A candidate will be eligible for admission and registration for the PhD programme, on the fulfillment of the following conditions :
• Candidates who have completed:
• A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade is allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision as per the decision of the UGC from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

In case, a candidate does not meet these minimum eligibility criteria and appears in the written examination, it is at the candidate’s own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the minimum eligibility requirements are not fulfilled, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.

Syllabus and Question paper

• a) The syllabus of the Entrance Test is as per the ‘University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022 comprising 50% on Research methodology and 50% on specific subject. The syllabus for each discipline is annexed at Appendix III of information brochure.
• b)  The question paper shall have questions consisting of  50% on research methodology and 50% on specific subject .

Registration fee, Cancellation of Admission and Refund of Fee

A non-refundable Registration Fee shall be charged along with the programme fee of first semester/year at the time of admission.

If a student applies for cancellation of application/admission and refund of fee, the refund request will be considered as per the University policy as under:

Before confirmation of admission:  Full Programme fee paid shall be refunded.  

After confirmation of admission:

Within 15 days of confirmation of admission : Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.500/- .  

Within 16-90 days of confirmation of admission:   Programme Fee paid shall be refunded after deduction of Rs.1000/- .  

After 90 days of confirmation of admission:   No refund shall be allowed.

IGNOU PhD entrance exam 2023 registration last date extended to January 3

IGNOU registration for BSc Nursing and BEd for January 2024 session has also been extended. The exam will be held on January 7.

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for submission of online application form for entrance test of PhD for July 2023 session, BSc Nursing and BEd for January 2024 session. Students will be able to submit the application form by January 3.

Students who are applying during this extended period will have to pay an additional late fee of Rs 200. Candidates will have to submit Rs 1,000 registration fee to complete the application form. As per the schedule, the exam will be held on January 7.

“The last date for submission of Online Application Form for Ph.D. (For July 2023 Session), BSc Nursing and BEd (For January, 2024 Session) has been extended till 03 January, 2024 up to 05:00 P.M with a late fee of Rs. 200,” the university said.

Entrance test will have 70% weightage and 30% weightage will be given to the interview round for PhD admission.

Applicants can follow the steps given below to register for the PhD entrance exam.

• Visit the IGNOU official website, ignouphd.samarth.edu.in.
• Click on the ‘New registration’ that appears on the homepage.
• Fill in basic details to generate username and password.
• Username should be between 8 to 16 characters.
• The password should be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
• After filling the mandatory information click the "SUBMIT" button.
• The username will be instantly sent through e-mail and SMS.

The entrance exam will be a 100-question, multiple-choice, objective-type exam. The exam will be divided into two sections:

• After the click, the registration section will open where candidates have to click on the “New Registration” tab to begin with the registration process.

• Once the application form is filled, candidates need to upload the recent scanned photograph (passport size) and digital signature in a prescribed format.
• Scanned Photograph – Less than 200 KB

Interview/ Presentation

• Candidates shortlisted based on performance in entrance test will be called for interview before the Discipline specific Doctoral Research Committee.
• Only selected candidates will get the offer letter.
• If candidates called for Interview does not mean that they can claim for admission. The Doctoral Research Committee may not recommend a candidate if the discipline does not have the specialization in which he/she wants to carry out research.

Qualifying Marks for IGNOU PhD Entrance Test 2022 – Candidates have to secure at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers) / Differently abled candidates) to qualify the IGNOU PhD Entrance Test.

• Make a payment of Rs 1000/- for the application Form fee.
• Download the Fee Receipt and Enrolment paper for future use.

IGNOU Ph.D. Entrance Exam 2024

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam 2024 will be conducted on 07 January 2024 by  the National Testing Agency ( NTA).  The test will be conducted in various centers across the country. Anyone intending to take admitted to the IGNOU Ph.D. program under any specialization is required to take the test. The minimum eligibility criteria to take the test is that the candidates must have a PG or MPhil degree from a UGC-recognized institution.

IGNOU PhD Entrance Exam  has 70% weightage in the selection process, and after qualifying for the test, candidates will be able to go in the Interview/ Viva round. The question paper contains 50% of questions from specified subjects and the rest 50% from research methodology. The exam duration is 3 Hours  which has 100 questions of 4 marks each.

Before applying to admission in IGNOU PhD Admission 2024, the candidates must look for the minimum eligibility criteria announced by the university on its official website. The criteria announced by the university for PhD admission to the session 2024 are:

• Students must have completed the postgraduate degree with good marks from a UGC-approved university in a relevant discipline. 
• Students have required the minimum aggregate mark in the mater's results for the general category is 55%.
• For the reserved category students (SC/ST, Differently abled),the minimum aggregate mark is 50%.

IGNOU Ph.D Admission 2024: Selection Process

The University offers IGNOU PhD program in 30+ specializations but the PhD ignou admission process is the same for all. The university selects a candidate in 2 steps (entrance exam & interview). One can get admission based on their performance in both steps. first, the university will conduct an entrance exam and the exam score will lead to students in the interview round. Afterwards, the university will release a list of selected candidates based on their performance in both rounds.

The application registration deadline was december 30 but has now been extended till january 14. the last date of successful transaction of fee in online mode is january 15 (11:50 pm)..

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the entrance exam application deadline for PhD admissions at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) for the July 2021 session. Students can apply online at ignou.nta.ac.in.

Earlier, the application registration deadline was December 30, which has now been extended till January 14. The last date of successful transaction of fee in online mode is January 15 (11:50 pm).

How to apply for IGNOU PhD entrance exam 2021

Step 1: Visit the official website of IGNOU-ignou.nta.ac.in.

Step 2: Click on the IGNOU PhD registration on the homepage.

Step 3: Fill in the application form.

Step 4: Pay the application fees and submit the form.

After registration, candidates will be allowed to make corrections to their application form from January 16 to January 18, 2022. “The candidates are requested to undertake the correction(s) very carefully as no further chance of correction will be provided to the candidates after the correction period,” the statement added.

Last Date of IGNOU Admission 2024: Get Registration and Re-Registration Dates

A lot of students are now preferring to pursue distance education and online modes of learning in different programmes such as B.A ., B.com , M.A., MBA , CFN, and DEVMT. One of the most preferred institutes in India for distance learning is IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University). 

Admissions to IGNOU are done in two major sessions, i.e. January and July. Students might get confused with these sessions and their last date. In this blog, we will answer your question: What is the Last Date of IGNOU Admission 2024? along with the upcoming session schedule.

• IGNOU starts admission for the January 2024 session, Students can apply by the extended last date 29 February 2024 at @ignou.ac.in .
• IGNOU has extended the re-registration last date for the January session. The extended last date is 29 February 2024 for IGNOU Re-registration in January session.

IGNOU Admission 2024: January Session

The second session of the IGNOU admissions process is the January session. Recently, the IGNOU has announced that the application for admission in the December-January session will start in the last week of December 2023.

IGNOU Admission 2024: July Session

Recently, the last date for Re-registration for the July session was extended to 29 February 2024 . Refer to the table below to know all the details and schedule of the July session:

How To Take Admission to IGNOU?

After knowing the details and schedule of IGNOU Admission, the candidates need to know how to pursue further with their admission process.

Here are the steps that a candidate should follow:

• Visit the official website i.e. ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. 
• Select “Register Online” and choose “Fresh Admission”.
• Fill out the registration form with all the required educational and personal details. Submit the application after reviewing your details.
• Login with your registered credentials and select the programs you wish to apply for.
• Upload your documents like photograms, and signature. 
• Click on Declaration and pay the registration fee through an acceptable payment method.  

There are two sessions for the IGNOU Admissions i.e. January and July.

The last date for admissions in the July session of IGNOU is 20th October 2023.

Don’t worry if you have missed the last date of IGNOU admission. The candidates can still apply for the exam through the “late admission process”.
