Factors affecting topic selection for theses and dissertations in
In many disciplines, there are studies on identifying the factors affecting the process of topic selection for theses or dissertations, but little studies have addressed the factors collectively in library and information science (LIS) and only descriptive scattered factors have been reported.

Theses in this collection have been scanned by the MIT Libraries or submitted in electronic format by thesis authors. Library and information science (LIS) is highly interdisciplinary by nature and is affected by the incessant evolution of technologies. A recent study surveying research trends in the years 2002—6 at various information science departments worldwide has found that a clear trend was identified in Masters theses and doctoral dissertations of social aspects of information moving into the spotlight.
