Essay 77 – Advantages and disadvantages of having a car

Gt writing task 2 / essay sample # 77.

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Some people claim that there are more disadvantages to having a car than its advantages. Do you agree or disagree? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Model Answer 1: [Agreement]

The invention of automobiles was one of the most important events of the last century. However, some people argue that people who have cars have more drawbacks than its benefits. In this case, I agree with it. Furthermore, I will discuss both the positive and negative sides of car ownership.

Of late, people look for a way to feel more comfortable on the roads and for many, this can come with a car. In simple words, driving vehicles makes people’s life more convenient as this mode of transport takes all the hassles out of travel arrangements, like booking tickets for trains or buses and waiting in the long line, for example. Besides, personal vehicles have redefined the notion of empowerment for women and mobility for millions of individuals. Personal freedom derived from owning an automobile means people can go to work, shopping and other destinations whenever and at any time without depending on public transport’s fixed schedules.

On the contrary, all of these benefits have come at an enormous cost to the environment. Driving a motor vehicle contributes significantly to environmental damage. The first factor is air pollution as it releases greenhouse gases, like Nitrogen dioxide for example. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, car accounts for nearly 25 per cent of all greenhouse gases released into the ecology. The second factor is water pollution. Cars contaminate water sources in several ways. One is through deicing chemicals and oil, brake dust, and runoff of automotive fluids. In addition, the improper disposal of car oil is also a reason for groundwater pollution. Last but not least, cars contribute considerably to solid waste. This means millions of cars are scrapped every year. But regrettably, in most cases, these cars are not recycled. Ultimately, these are disposed of through a landfill site, which in turn leads to the destruction of the natural environment.

To wrap up, while the car is a convenient mode of transportation, it also has grave disadvantages. In my opinion, the negative impacts attached to having cars vastly outweigh any advantages. This is because it threatens the very existence of mankind.

Model Answer 2: [Disagreement]

In contemporary times, there are conflicting opinions about whether cars bring more harm than benefits, and some clearly express the view that owning cars brings more demerits. In my view, however, the advantages of owning a car significantly outweigh the disadvantages. This essay delves into this issue while also discussing both benefits and demerits of owning automobiles.

To begin with, having an automobile provides immense convenience and saves precious time. For instance, people who live far away from their workplaces or schools can avoid the hassles of public transportation and reach their destinations on time. Furthermore, cars provide freedom of movement, allowing people to travel and explore new places, and engage in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and skiing. These benefits contribute to a person’s overall quality of life. And perhaps this is why people who own cars would not want to live without them.

In addition, cars play a crucial role in the economy, providing numerous job opportunities in industries such as manufacturing, sales, maintenance and driving. Furthermore, the availability of cars enhances accessibility to essential services such as healthcare, grocery shopping, and emergency services. If someone, for example, does not own a car, it is less likely that he or she would go out and walk for several miles to get to a shopping mall in a city.

On the other hand, critics argue that cars can be a source of pollution, traffic congestion, and accidents. It is evident that car accidents claim thousands of innocent lives each year. Moreover, owning an automobile is expensive. It requires paying taxes, buying fuel, paying for the servicing and so on. This is why economically less affluent citizens in most countries can not afford a car.

In conclusion, the benefits of owning a car, including convenience, time-saving, mobility, and economic opportunities, outweigh the potential drawbacks. Since cars bring more advantages than disadvantages to their owners, I firmly disagree with the notion.

Ielts essay # 18 - discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car, ielts writing task 2/ ielts essay:, some people claim that there are more disadvantages of the car than its advantages., do you agree or disagree discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car., idea generation for this ielts essay:.

  • Owning a car is expensive and requires additional costs to maintain and repair it. Not all families can afford it.
  • Cars have increased the level of air and noise pollution in cities, causing more humans to suffer from respiratory, heart diseases, or cancers.
  • City travellers have to spend longer hours on traffic jams. Using more private car, the density of traffic has been increased phenomenally and citizens have had to stay longer time on traffic load.
  • As the number of private cars increased, more car passengers have been injured or died by severe accidents.
  • More pedestrians’ accidents have been reported annually. As the usage of private cars increases, it is more probable that people walking through the street die by them.
  • Private car is more expensive than the public transportation. Paying huge money for tax, renewing of licence, or air care, people have to pay more for using cars.
  • More fossil fuels are consumed as more cars are used by people, leading other generations to face a shortage of these fuels.
  • The governmental expense will be raised far dramatically. To build and maintenance of more highways for more cars, hire more police force, the local government have to consider a larger budget.
  • The use of cars to commute has decreased the average health of car users as they do not need to do any physical movement.
  • The consumption of fuels to run the car is contributing to the rise if global warming and affecting the ozone layer.
  • The car owners need to worry about the safety and parking places for cars wherever s/he travels.
  • It saves the time as the commuters can reach his destination quickly than it would be required in a public bus.
  • The private car is a convenient mode of transportation. Having more comfortable seats, ventilation or other novel technologies help people to feel better than using other methods, like a bicycle or a public bus.
  • Users have more secure privacy compared to using public transportation.
  • This will increase more job opportunities because more workers will be involved in working in car companies or as drivers, reducing the unemployment rate.
  • The local state will have more budgets, paid by car owners’ taxes, to renew the roads. Annually, car drivers have to pay hundreds of dollars for renewing their car insurance, licence, tickets, or air care.
  • Other industries have been developed as car industries developed. The more humans use more private cars, the more car companies have to raise their technology, leading other mother industries to be developed too.
  • People can have absolute freedom on deciding the schedule and roads to reach their destination.
  • A private car owner can utilise his time but it is very tough to do so on a public bus.
  • In a car, a person does not have to worry about the dust, noise and fumes present in the road while in public transportation it is not always possible to avoid those.

Pros and Cons of Electric Cars

There are positives and negatives to owning a battery-electric, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

view of parked electric porsche car connected to the charging station in the garden garage

If the forecasts by regulators and automakers are correct, the future of the automobile is going to be heavily reliant on battery-electric propulsion. But we don't live in the future, we live in the present. It's a time of great transition for the industry, but there are a few kinks that still need working out.

Electric cars are efficient, quiet, and torque-rich. They can also be expensive, tend to be heavy, and are plagued by a limited public charging infrastructure—something we expect will get better in the coming years. There are a number of benefits to choosing some level of electrification in your next vehicle, but some tradeoffs do apply.

What Defines an Electric Car?

In today's automotive landscape, an electric car is defined as a passenger vehicle that uses an electric drive motor for propulsion. This broad definition, which technically encompasses a number of powertrain setups, includes hybrid vehicles.

2021 toyota prius prime

Those in search of emission-free electric driving currently have two options to choose from: hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicles (HFCVs or FCEVs) and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The former setup uses onboard fuel cells to react with hydrogen fuel (stored in an onboard tank) with oxygen to produce electricity to power such a vehicle's electric drive motor. The combination of these two chemicals (hydrogen and oxygen) results in HFCVs exhausting water vapor.

motor vehicle, automotive design, vehicle, land vehicle, grille, transport, headlamp, car, automotive lighting, gas pump,

Alas, the limited hydrogen infrastructure in the U.S. makes it difficult to refuel HFCVs. As such, the two HFCVs currently offered in the U.S., the Toyota Mirai sedan and the Hyundai Nexo SUV, are strictly sold in California, a state with an existing—but still subpar—hydrogen fueling infrastructure.

Thus BEVs are the sole option for those looking to switch to an emissions-free car. Like PHEVs, BEVs feature an external charge port that allows owners to charge their car's onboard battery pack using energy from an external source, such as the local energy grid. Unlike PHEVs, BEVs have no internal-combustion engine (ICE) onboard to serve as a generator or propulsion source. Without an ICE to lug around, BEVs feature larger-capacity battery packs that allow them to drive farther between charges.

Pros and Cons of Partial Electrification

PRO: Hybrids deliver better fuel economy without lifestyle changes.

Hybrids don't require you to change your driving habits in order to change your impact. These vehicles are not dependent on electricity, as both have internal combustion engines onboard that burn gasoline (or diesel in other markets), which is easy to find at any gas station. PHEVs are just the same, however, they offer owners the opportunity to dip their toe into the proverbial EV pool. Want to limit your emissions? Then plug in and charge the battery pack to enjoy a limited range of strictly battery-electric power.

PRO: PHEVs suit the average commute.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the average one-way commute for American drivers is up to about 28 minutes each way per day. PHEVs, such as the Toyota RAV4 Prime or Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid, are capable of driving between 30–40 miles on battery power alone. In PHEVs like these, it's possible you may only find yourself burning gas when you go on an extended drive.

PRO: Charging is less of a concern.

It's not possible to buy a jerrycan's worth of extra electrons (yet) for an EV that runs out of juice. However, all it takes is a couple of gallons of gas to get a hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle back on the move. Plus, unlike our charging infrastructure (which, admittedly, continues to improve and grow by the day), there are gas stations everywhere.

CON: Combustion engine maintenance.

Because there's an ICE on board, hybrid and plug-in-hybrid vehicles still require the typical maintenance you expect of any gas-powered car. Electric motors, meanwhile, need comparatively little maintenance. Still, it's not all bad news. Thanks to the use of regenerative braking from the electric motor, an electrified vehicle's brakes often last longer and require less service than those of strictly ICE-powered vehicles.

CON : Still burning fossil fuels.

Gasoline-electric hybrids still burn fossil fuels, which means these vehicles still produce harmful emissions. A PHEVs ability to putter about on battery power alone means it's possible for consumers to largely avoid firing up the gas engine. Still, it will inevitably turn on and begin combusting fuel.

toyota mirai at fueling station 2022

Pros and Cons of Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Electric Vehicles

Pro: the technology works..

The California-only Toyota Mirai has a range of up to 402 miles and can be refueled nearly as quickly as a gasoline-powered car. It's as smooth and refined as an EV, and less complex than a PHEV.

CON: Good luck finding a fuel station.

If the infrastructure for electrical charging is still young, then hydrogen infrastructure is embryonic. Currently, HFCVs really only make sense in limited applications (mostly in California), or perhaps for fleet use.

tesla model s ev charging electric car

Pros and Cons of Battery-Electric Vehicles

Pro: performance and power delivery..

BEVs have the potential to be insanely quick. Just look at the Rivian R1T , a more than 7000-pound electric pickup truck that shot to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds under our watch. But the benefits of an electric motor are not limited strictly to straight-line acceleration. Thanks to the near-instant torque production of an electric motor, even more modestly powered BEVs tend to feel pretty peppy in typical driving situations.

PRO: Clean motoring.

With no exhaust (and thus no tailpipe emissions), electric motors are far cleaner than gas engines. Of course, just how much cleaner electric cars are compared to their gas-powered kin is dependent on a number of factors. For instance, if your local power plant produces electricity by burning fossil fuels, then the net environmental benefits of your EV lessen. That said, not all is lost. While many of America's power plants do burn fossil fuels, solar and wind farms can supplement the grid, further countering any emissions indirectly produced by EVs.

PRO: Less maintenance.

Due to the fact electric motors have fewer moving parts than combustion engines, electric vehicles require less maintenance relative to their gas- and diesel-powered counterparts. Even better, the fact EVs use regenerative braking to slow down, means these vehicles use their mechanical brakes less frequently. As such, the braking components on EVs tend to wear at a much slower rate than those of cars with combustion engines.

CON: Battery blues.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the expected life of an EV's battery pack is between 10 and 12 years. That said, battery packs can last longer than their estimate. Once a battery pack bites the dust, though, replacing it is rather pricey. As of this writing, new battery packs cost thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars to replace. These prices will likely come down as more battery-electric vehicles enter service. Likewise, consumers can save some money by purchasing a refurbished battery pack for their EV.

CON: Charging hassles.

America's EV charging infrastructure is still rather weak, which means it can be difficult to find an available charger, let alone a functioning one, in public places. On the plus side, the most cost-effective and efficient way to charge an EV is via an at-home charger. Specifically, when hooked up to a 240-volt Level 2 charger, which ought to ensure your EV gets a sufficient charge overnight. Depending on the specific EV you own, the range added overnight should be more than enough to cover your daily driving needs.

CON: Towing troubles.

The hassles of America's charging infrastructure are exacerbated when towing, too. With the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T capable of towing up to 10,000 and 11,000 pounds, respectively, the era of towing with an EV is upon us. Unfortunately, doing so takes a toll on range . We discovered both the Lightning and R1T's EPA-rated ranges were cut by nearly two-thirds when towing a 6100-pound camper. Unless the campsite or boat ramp is close by, then you may still be better off relying on a vehicle with an internal combustion engine to do your towing duties, as, in today's environment, it's far easier to find a reliable gas station over a charging station.

Sample Essay

Modernization has seen a plethora of innovations and ground-breaking revolutionary inventions. Modes of transport and the inventions of motor vehicles, particularly cars, have been a major breakthrough. Cars come along with immense benefits and merits from many aspects. However, certain ill effects and cons have crippled the situation today. In the following paragraphs, this essay shall see both the advantages and disadvantages of cars.

Motor vehicles, and particularly cars, seem inexorable from the present world’s regime. Cars come with a myriad of advantages, and the first one that comes to mind is the level of comfort that they have brought along. Having cars has made travelling extremely facile and easy going. Right from taking multiple stops on the way to enjoying the scenic beauty of nature as per the desire, cars have made it all possible. For the ones with claustrophobia or the ones who don’t feel comfortable travelling through a public means of transport, cars have been nothing short of a boon. Moreover, public transport at times, doesn’t give a frailing and queasy travellers the liberty to take the breaks in between the long hours of journey as it might be extremely strenuous for them to sit for the long hours of duration. Moreover, the seats as well, might not always be guaranteed, especially in the local modes of transportation.

However, owning a car might not be a cakewalk as it seems. Before chalking the demerits of owning a car, the contingency of having one comes to mind. Cars are on a very higher note when we compare the prices of travelling through a public transport vehicle and a private car. In addition to that, the money doesn’t cease to splurge once the car has been bought. Various documents, including driving licences, pollution certificates and incessant servicing maintenance of one’s car can make a notable dent in one’s wallet. Also, from the pollution point of view, more the number of cars, the more is the emittance of umteen amounts of toxic gases in the environment, which is severely catastrophic to the environment. Moreover, the traffic jams and the jam-packed roads owing to the increasing number of car owners have been really problematic for the people today.

Electric Cars: Advantages and Concerns Essay

An electric car is a general term that is used to refer to all varieties of highway-capable automobiles, which are propelled by electricity. The source of electricity can either be on-board rechargeable batteries or other electric energy generating and storage device. An electric car that is powered by on-board solar panels is specifically referred to as a solar car. While the one that derives its electricity from a gasoline generator is called a hybrid car. Similarly, cars that derive power from the on-board battery pack are more specifically referred to as battery electric cars/vehicles (BEC/V). In the recent past, the term electric vehicle has been used specifically to refer to lithium-ion battery-powered plugin electric cars.

Most commercial electric cars are fitted with one or more low power electric motors capable of providing instant torque for better performance. These cars also have a much better acceleration as compared to the conventional gasoline engine cars. Electric cars are also significantly quieter and are environmentally friendly since they don’t emit any tailpipe pollutants, as is the case for gasoline cars. These cars are thus considered the future solution to the problems of air pollution and greenhouse gases. Electric-powered vehicles also provide independence from the volatility of oil prices and the occasional gasoline price fluctuations, which occurs as a result of a disruption in the supply of oil from producing countries (Gabe 71).

In terms of energy efficiency, electric vehicles are more efficient than gasoline-powered cars in converting the stored energy to propel the car. Gasoline-powered cars are relatively inefficient at converting on-board-energy and only utilize about 15% of fuel energy to move the car. In addition to their strength in energy efficiency, electric-powered vehicles do not consume energy when not in motion. Most electric cars are also fitted with a regenerative braking system that recaptures for reuse as much as one-fifth of the energy that is used during braking (Kane 52).

However, electric cars have many hurdles to overcome if they are to compete effectively with the internal combustion engine cars. In terms of price, electric cars are astronomically expensive compared to internal combustion engine cars. Batteries alone cost a fortune, and yet their range is limited. Energy experts agree that for electric cars to be economically viable, battery manufacturers must find a way of building units that can last 15 years, improve their storage capacity, and cut the costs by about a factor of four.

No such game-changing breakthroughs have been achieved so far by any of the electric vehicle manufacturers despite huge financial support from the government (Chao 56). The units being sold by Nissan, General Motors, Tesla, and Fisker remain disproportionately expensive. General Motors’ hybrid electric Chevy Volt, for example, is sold for a staggering $40,000. Nissan Leaf retails at $30,000, yet it is less capable than most car models that are powered by gasoline.

The continuous decline of global oil prices and the subsidization of fossil fuels through tax breaks is another stumbling block that is hindering the widespread adoption of electric cars. Huge government financial assistance and tax waivers are provided to oil exploration and refining companies. This makes gasoline to be relatively economical to use for car owners. And as long as tailpipe emissions have no priced harm, few buyers will be willing to spend a dime on transitioning to electric cars. A survey conducted in 2010 shows that although more than three-quarters of Americans were willing to buy electric cars for the sake of the environment, none was ready to pay more to own the cars (Michael 64).

The cost of maintenance of electric cars is another factor hindering mass transition from internal combustion engine cars. True, electric vehicles have fewer mechanical moving parts to break and therefore require less servicing. However, these cars are incredibly complex machines that require regular maintenance and expensive replacements. Battery charging infrastructure and charging time is another major shortcoming for electric cars. The batteries must be recharged periodically, with each recharging taking several hours. Although fast charging is available as an option, it usually takes at least 30 minutes, which is still a lot of time compared to the time it takes to refill a fuel tank.

There are also serious concerns over safety issues and the risk of fire associated with the use of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are highly vulnerable and are easily prone to thermal runaway if they are overcharged (Jim 40). The batteries can also rapture and in extreme cases, even explode when overheated. In fact, several fire incidents involving electric cars have been reported since the start of commercial production of plugin electric cars in 2008. Incidentally, most of these high-level fire accidents are almost entirely related to thermal runaway of lithium-ion battery packs.

Clearly, the future of electric cars doesn’t look promising, considering that the government’s financial support and funding are unlikely to increase. Things are also likely to get tougher for traditional electric car companies following the introduction of Google’s hugely successful self-driving cars (Smith 79). Google’s vehicles are expected to be more affordable and will liberate the cars from its driver. But as the experts have observed, the improvement of the battery performance range, charging time, and storage capacity will be the key to unlocking the full benefits and economic viability of electric cars.

essay about advantages and disadvantages of cars

IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample 9 – Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car

You should spend about  40  minutes on this task.

Some people claim that there are more disadvantages of the car than its advantages. Do you agree or disagree? Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a car.

Give reasons for your answer.

You should write at least  250  words.

Model Answer 1: In our lives, we travel from one place to another for a great variety of reasons and while travelling we greatly depend on cars, whether it is a private car or a public bus. The number of car owners is increasing every day because every person expects the freedom to travel and comfort while travelling. And that is why most of us want to own a car. However owning a car have many advantages and disadvantages as well.

The main advantage of owning a car is it gives the freedom to travel. If you have a car then you don’t need to be limited to fixed routes and timetables. Moreover, a car-owner can take is/her family members with him/her and other necessary goods whenever he/she wish which might have been impossible otherwise. In addition, personal cars give comfort while travelling on the contrary to the public buses which are so crowded and disgusting. You can read books, listen to music or even can play with kids while you are in your own car but those all seems to be impossible in a public transport. On the contrary, owning a car is very expensive. The price of the car, the cost of the tax, insurance cost, fuel cost, driver’s salary, car repairing etc. all must be considered before buying a car and that is why it is out of reach of the middle-class people.

Moreover, private cars can not carry many passengers at a time yet occupy spaces in the street. As the number of cars is increasing in the road so does the traffic jam. Perhaps the major disadvantage of cars, in general, is the huge damage they do to the human health and to the environment. More cars mean more pollution. The environment pollution is a serious issue today and at any cost, we must reduce the amount of pollution and if we consider it then owning a car is never a good idea.

To sum up, having a car gives someone freedom but if public transportation system is easily accessible, safe and efficient, then the idea of buying and owning a car should be abandoned.

Idea Generation for this IELTS Essay:

Essay Type:  Agree / Disagree as well as Advantages & Disadvantages.

Main question of this IELTS Essay:

A. Do you agree that there are more disadvantages of the car than its advantages?

B. Advantages of having a car.

C. Disadvantages of having a car.

Note:  This essay topic is a bit tricky. It is a combination of both “Agree/ Disagree” and “Advantages & Disadvantages” type essay. First, you need to write whether you agree or disagree that cars have more disadvantages that the advantages they offer. Again you need to write down the advantages and disadvantages of owning a car.  In the introduction part of the essay you need to mention whether you agree or disagree. Then in the following paragraphs you can write the advantages and disadvantages of cars and at the end of the each paragraph you can summarise why having a car has more advantages than disadvantages and vice versa.

Disadvantages of having a car:

Agreement:  Why cars have more disadvantages than advantages? Considering all the disadvantages the cars have to the health, environment, government budget and the hassle and expenses the car owners have to bear, it is quite clear that having a car has more demerits and the advantages it offers.

Advantages of having a car:

  • The private car is a convenient mode of transportation. Having more comfortable seats, ventilation or other novel technologies help people to feel better than using other methods, like a bicycle or a public bus.
  • Users have a more secure privacy compared to using public transportation.

Disagreement:  Why cars have more advantages that disadvantages?

Considering the advantages the car ownership offers, I would say that it is more beneficial to own a car than using public transportation. Many people might argue against owning a car but I think most of them would buy a car if their financial condition allows them to do so.

[These ideas should be helpful for you to generate your own ideas and writing an excellent essay on the given IELTS Essay topic should be easier for you. If you have new ideas that we might have missed, add them in the comment section and we will publish it.]

Alternative Answer 2: Owning a car is a birth-right for some people while other people try their life-long to purchase one. Apart from these two groups, there are certain people who do not dare to even think about purchasing a car because of their miserable economic conditions. However, for all those people the four wheel car is a fancy machine with advantages and utility. Owning a car can also bring some drawbacks.

Among the advantages of owning a car, in my opinion, freedom of travelling is the most important one. Someone who owns a car can plan his route, timing and destination. He won’t have to wait for the schedule of a public bus, stand in a long queue, wait for hours for the bus to arrive, and sit in the public bus uncomfortably. A person car gives the freedom, saves time and the owner can utilise the time while he travels. Apart from that, he can carry the grocery, goods and other valuables in the car at his discretion. Owning a car also offers the flexibility of visiting relatives and friends who stay far away without much hassle of a public bus. Taking a child or an old person in a public bus is quite impossible and owning a car would facilitate someone to take his kid, old relatives with him if needed. The comfort and safety of a private car can’t be achieved in a public car. In terms of expense, sometimes personal car saves monthly expenses that would otherwise be required for a person if he travels frequently.

On the other hand owning a car has some disadvantages as well. First of all, private cars require the garage place and parking hassle. Sometimes the expenses on hiring a driver and purchasing fuel might exceed the budget for the people who could have easily availed public transportations for infrequent journeys. The traffic issue, paper renewal issue, tax, police cases are sometimes too much to handle for the personal car owners. For example, if a public bus gets busted in the middle of a road, the passenger can easily leave it a look for another one. But in this same situation, a private car owner who was riding in his car would have to take the burden of taking care of the busted car and reach to the automobile repairing centres.

In summary, though owning a car has some disadvantages, it offers many advantages as well.

Model Answer 3: People need different modes of transportation to move from one place to another. In the ancient time, they used horses and donkeys for this purpose and to carry their loads. With  the development of technology, people invented novel things such as cars, trains, aeroplanes, ships and this development has further enhanced the flexibility and convenience of transportation. Out of these vehicles, the private car is one of the best and most preferred vehicles for people to commute from one place to another but not without consequences.

Private cars have many advantages. Due to this, people who can afford a private car, want to own it. People with low-income class also dream to own a car one day. This simple phenomenon shows how advantageous of owning a private car can be. With a private car, people can plan their own journey, go somewhere whenever they want, take diversions to avoid bad traffic, avoid long queue for ticketing and enjoy the utmost flexibility and privacy of a soothing journey. This is a very handy thing in the emergency cases. For example, when someone gets sick, his family members can easily take him to a hospital regardless of the time. Finally, owning a private car offers someone the freedom to enjoy his time during the journey while it is quite impossible on a public bus.

On the contrary, private car ownership has many demerits as well. It is far more expensive than public transportation. The cost of  fuel, driver, licence, insurance, maintenance, repairing etc. will often increase the monthly expense for a family. Furthermore, those cars produce toxic gas such as greenhouse gases, CO2 and CO that are harmful to the human health and the environment. Private cars are the main reason for congestion on the roads and the increasing environmental pollution.

To some up, I think the private car is a very useful vehicle that offers more advantages than demerits to its owner. However, the environmental issues due to excessive use of cars should not be ignored and we should use private cars absolutely when it is necessary and at other times, we should use public transportations.

Cars: The Good and the Bad

Cars are viewed to be one of the automobile machines which enables individuals to attain their destinations to pursue a particular mission. There are certain motives why cars are deemed to be good. For example, cars are good when you consider that they help in the traveling to reach precise destinations of an individuals' choice. However, there are also other motives why cars are bad. A typical example is that they frequently cause road accidents leading to extreme injuries and even loss of life. The following articles discuss the reasons why most motors are considered good and bad by using most of the people.

Motor Vehicles and Environment Article

According to the above article, cars have been considered to be good due to the fact they provide a reliable and convenient means of mobility to a huge growing number of people across the globe. Another reason why cars are good is that a person can easily control its pace either to move faster or slower (Blomquist, 2012). This can be done by installation of a supercharger and a turbo which both aids in the control of speed. Also, cars are good since they enable an owner not rely on the public transportation in case there is need to reach a particular destination faster. However, there are reasons why cars have been viewed to be bad, for instance, cars are the primary source of air pollution. Cars produce a toxic substance which largely contributes to the pollution of the environment (Blomquist, 2012). Such poisonous substances lead to global warming which accounts for the increasing greenhouse gas emissions across the globe.

A lot of congestions is often witnessed along various roads specifically in urban areas. Many people find it a waste of time as they stream to various destinations such as workplaces and homes. Further, cars involve a lot of cost regarding buying and other maintenance services that are provided to the car to ensure it moves smoothly. Additional costs associated with cars are insurance costs, licenses, registration and inspection making it very expensive to own a car.

The article also states that a lot of cars cause accidents leading to loss of life and injury to victims involved. A lot of individuals, therefore, lose their friends and relatives on occasions of accidents. This makes cars to be considered to be bad since they are a threat to human life. Additionally, cars contribute to health complications such as stress and high levels of blood pressure (Blomquist, 2012). The health problems are mostly due to lack of exercise by individuals who own cars since they prefer to reach any destination of their choice even if the distance is short. Such individuals end up dying at an early age due to non-physical activities to sustain blood pressure and flow in their body.

Global Cars Brands

The global car's brand identifies specific features which make a car good. Cars, for instance, have air conditioner compressors (AC).The AC acts as lifesavers for the drivers and owners especially those who are living in regions with hot climates (Ewing et al.2013, 10). Another feature which makes cars the best is the driverless nature of certain cars such that they can move without being steered by the driver to move in the right directions. Cars also have good multimedia features such as touch screen multimedia which makes it easy to control some songs that the owner would like to listen to while driving. According to Ewing et al.(2013, 10), Some of the cars such as BMW5 have a means of communication installed in them which allows an individual to communicate effectively while driving to different destinations.

According to the global cars brand article, cars can also be customized to suit the needs of the particular user. For example, one can remove certain unnecessary parts of the car and replace them with other elements one considers to be appealing. This, therefore, makes the car a good property to the owner. However, there are certain reasons for the article which makes a car bad. Most often cars cause accidents on the roads causing loss of lives of very innocent people (Ewing et al.2013, 10). Such accidents could be as a result of the technology used in the making of the specific cars by the brand company.

The other reason why a car is viewed to be bad is the adverse environmental effects experienced in the environment which causes global warming across the globe. The article also states that cars are very to purchase and maintain rendering it difficult to own cars. A lot of costs are often involved. Further, cars do not get decomposed once they become old and cannot be used for any other business (Ewing et al.2013, 10). The remaining scrap metals are usually hazardous to human health. They can cause injury if stepped on by an individual. Apart from killing people cars also kill animals leading to loss of certain essential species across the globe. This mostly occurs in areas where wild animals are usually protected by various government agencies. The above reasons, therefore, make cars a bad property to own.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Car

Looking for advantages and disadvantages of Car?

We have collected some solid points that will help you understand the pros and cons of Car in detail.

But first, let’s understand the topic:

What is Car?

Car is a four-wheeled motor vehicle used for transportation.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Car

The following are the advantages and disadvantages of Car:

Advantages and disadvantages of Car

Advantages of Car

  • Convenience – Cars provide a convenient way to travel from one place to another. They allow us to go where we want, when we want, without having to rely on public transportation or the schedules of others. Cars also enable us to carry more passengers and cargo than other forms of transportation, which can be especially useful for families or individuals with a lot of luggage.
  • Speed – Cars can travel at high speeds, which can save us time when we need to get somewhere quickly. This is especially true when driving on highways or other roads with little traffic. Additionally, cars can be used to transport emergency personnel and patients to hospitals quickly, which can be lifesaving in critical situations.
  • Freedom – Owning a car provides a sense of freedom and independence. It allows us to explore new places, take road trips, and visit friends and family who live far away. Having a car also gives us the flexibility to run errands and complete tasks without having to rely on anyone else.
  • Comfort – Cars provide a comfortable way to travel, especially during long journeys. They are equipped with amenities such as air conditioning, comfortable seating, and music systems that make the journey more enjoyable. Additionally, cars provide shelter from the elements, which can be especially useful during inclement weather.
  • Employment opportunities – Cars can also provide employment opportunities, especially for drivers who work in the transportation industry. This can include jobs such as taxi drivers, delivery drivers, and truck drivers. Additionally, owning a car can make it easier to access job opportunities in areas that are not served by public transportation.

Cars emit harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, which can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. Additionally, cars contribute to climate change by releasing greenhouse gases that trap heat in the atmosphere.
  • Traffic congestion – Cars can contribute to traffic congestion, especially in urban areas. This can lead to longer commute times, increased stress, and reduced productivity. Traffic congestion can also impact emergency response times, making it more difficult for first responders to reach those in need.
  • Expense – Owning a car can be expensive, especially when factoring in the cost of gas, maintenance, insurance, and repairs. Additionally, car ownership requires a significant investment upfront, which can be a barrier for those with limited financial resources. Cars can also lose value quickly, making it difficult to recoup the initial investment.
  • Safety concerns – Cars can be dangerous, especially when driven recklessly or in adverse weather conditions. • Initial Investment is Steep: If you buying an electric car, then you need to have more money. The price of gas-powered vehicles is lesser than EVs. Though technology is advancing and the cost to produce cars continues to drop, still they have higher prices.
  • Short Driving Range and Speed: Electric vehicles are limited by speed and range. Most of these have a range of 50 to 100 miles and need to be recharged again. Which is not suitable for long drives.
  • Battery Replacement: Based on the type and usage of the battery, almost all vehicles need to change their batteries after 3 to 10 years.
  • Minimal Amount of Options: The truth here is there are a limited number of choices to customize and choose electric vehicles. But, a vast amount of customization is available in EVs.
  • Electricity isn’t Free: Here we also need to consider the electricity or charging costs. In a few cases, electric cars need a huge charge to work properly which increases your monthly electricity bill.
  • Recharge Stations: Electric recharge stations are still in the development stages. Not all places will have electric fuelling stations. So when you go for a long trip, then it might be difficult to find a charging station.

Difference Between Electric Vehicle and Gas Vehicle

From the name, we can say that electric cars are powered by electricity and gas cars requires gasoline to work. The amazing thing about EVs is that they have motors as the big moving part. It also has a pack of rechargeable batteries inside it, which powers the motor. Gas cars require combustion engines to move. Fuel is burnt inside which generates the needed energy to start the engine.

Gas vehicles have a hidden fuel tank. In electric vehicles, there is a set of batteries installed. Instead of filling the fuel, you need to recharge the battery in an EV. EVs don’t leave a trace of emissions when they are on the roads. They even don’t need a tailpipe
