Essay on Mobile Phone: 250 Words

A mobile phone or cell phone is a hand-held portable radiophone that uses the cellular or satellite network for voice or data communication. Unlike landline phones, which are fixed, mobile phones can be easily carried, and one can contact a person anywhere whether at home, on the bus, in street, or in a meeting. Apart from talking, it can be used for sending SMS, e-mail and for taking photos and videos.

High-end mobiles act as mini computers, offering services like internet, diary, music, iPod, calculator, alarm clock, etc. It is extremely useful in emergencies. But there is a tendency to abuse it. To many, it is an Addiction rather than a necessity. A cell phone ringing in an auditorium is most annoying. Using a mobile phone while driving a car or a motorbike and crossing a road or a railway track had led to many accidents.

Teleshopping is a great nuisance. Privacy is often violated, as most mobile users are unaware that they could be photographed or tracked. Terrorists use this gadget to trigger bombs and achieve their ends. Mobiles can also cause health hazards. The radiations from mobiles may cause injury to the brain. Cellphones on vibration mode put in front pocket may damage the heartbeat system. With all its advantages, what is, therefore, needed is moderation in the use of mobile phones.

Essay on Mobile Phones: 400 Words

When telephone was first introduced in the world in the 1950s, people were keenly interested in it. As an easier way of communication, telephone has its own merit. Of late, the introduction of mobiles makes an easy access to communication. It is in fact inevitable in the present day of hurry and business. People have warmly accepted mobiles as the blessing of science. There is little doubt that without the use of mobiles none is nowadays able to lead one’s life quite normally. One is capable of communicating with people, staying far away very quickly. Thus many a problem can be well- solved by way of using these mobiles.

But everything has its merit and demerit. As science is a bane as well as a boon, mobiles are to some extent to be cursed. People, especially the young generation, have been abusing mobiles. They not only chat in an unexpected way but also indulge themselves in leading immoral life by abusing mobiles. Apart from this, several mercenary companies exploit the advantage of mobiles to meet their selfish ends. They do business through mobiles. As a result, young people have been misguided. To use mobiles is for them to be up to date. They avail themselves of the opportunity of the internet connection in their mobiles and do whatever they like to do. Obscene video clippings and some other versions of immoral entertainment are now available in mobiles. Therefore, the students have now tremendous fascination for the mobiles. Consequently, instead of studying, concentrate on using mobiles for sheer fun.

Another demerit is that because of the excessive use of the mobiles different companies plunge themselves into doing profitable business. Consequently, numerous towers have been erected for the network of mobiles. It is well known that a particular wave which is responsible for the mobile network does harm to the ecological balance of the environment. It is evident in the pale colors of the trees and fruits adjacent to the mobile towers.

Thus, it is the time to be conscious of the abuse of the mobiles. The concerned authority should take immediate steps to stop immoral business which is proliferating in abusing mobiles. All should remember that the sole purpose of mobile is to communicate. Entertainment may be available in the network of mobiles. But there should be no immoral design. Above all, the government should restrict the use of mobiles, so much so that anti-social activities may not be done through mobiles.

500 Words Essay On Smartphone

In many aspects, smartphones are beneficial in our daily lives. The use of cell phones is essential to everyday life. The smartphone is an excellent improvement to our life. Our work has been made simpler and more convenient due to it. It has numerous uses, including a phone, camera, music player, and alarm clock. We can maintain contact with our friends and family members thanks to it.

Understanding The Smartphone

A smartphone is a mobile gadget that makes it possible to combine cellular and mobile computing capabilities into a single device. In addition, compared to feature phones, smartphones offer more powerful hardware and robust mobile operating systems. Smartphones' robust operating systems enable online browsing, software, and multimedia features. They also support standard phone features like voice calls and text messaging.

Importance Of Smartphones In Our Life

A smartphone is a mobile phone that provides more sophisticated networking and computational capabilities than a typical mobile phone. A touchscreen interface, an internet connection, and an operating system that can execute downloaded programmes are all standard features of a smartphone.

The Simon Personal Communicator, built in 1992, was the original smartphone. It incorporated functions from many devices, including a cell phone, pager, fax machine, and contact book. However, cell phones did not take off until the 2000s.

The ability to always be online is one of the key factors contributing to cell phones' immense popularity. This enables us to keep up with current events, check our email and social media accounts, and even conduct online shopping. We can communicate with our friends and family via smartphones. We can reach them whenever we want by phone, text, or video-chat.

Smartphone Use By Students

Students can benefit from smartphones. They can use them to look up material swiftly, take class notes, and maintain organisation. Nevertheless, there are several drawbacks to using a smartphone in class. A student may not be paying attention to the lecture and miss vital information if they are continually using their phone.

While some schools have outlawed cell phone use in the classroom, others have welcomed it and have even developed apps that can be used for learning. The best course of action for each school's children is up to them.

The excessive use of cell phones has some drawbacks. For instance, if we are always staring at our phones, we risk missing out on what is happening worldwide. We could also develop a phone addiction and use them excessively. This may result in issues like anxiousness and lack of sleep.

My Life Experiences

In my home, there are five smartphones, one for my father, one for my mother, one for my sister, one for my brother, and one for myself. We all use smartphones for personal work. Smartphones help us in many ways, depending on how we use them. A smartphone can affect us in both ways, negatively and positively, depending on how we use it. My father always told us to use mobile phones with a limit. We all have phone-free zones in our house where we are not allowed to use any devices and we spend that time bonding with each other or reading books.

Overall, smartphones have a lot of benefits and uses that make our life easier. However, to use them wisely, we should be aware of any potential drawbacks.

Notebook Is A Must

It goes without saying that before you submit your paper to the teacher, you have to polish your essay, and in order to polish the document, you have to write drafts. Notebooks, such as Google Keep or Evernote, will help you to keep your takes regarding specific things that relate to the essay.

Moreover, if to take Evernote, you can share your documents with your colleagues if you work on an article together. Indubitably, it can be launched without the Internet connection and has two versions, free and paid.

Google Docs

Considering our job, our team also has to work with our phones, regularly taking notes on different aspects. And, obviously, we love typing on the phone. It goes far beyond that to write down a couple of sentences. Some of our staff members can even write the entire article on the phone without any inconvenience.

As follows, we would highly recommend you to use Google Docs on your smartphone because: a) it’s free, to say less; b) it’s incredibly easy-to-use, thanks to a thoughtful approach of the developers, who brush up the app before release it; and last but not least – c) – it synchronizes with all your devices whether it is a laptop, a pc, or a phone. With the help of Grammarly Keyboard , you ensure burnishing your syntax as well as lexicon, which makes your paper impeccable and unprecedented. Moreover, the aforementioned keyboard doesn’t require much space and works very rapidly and smoothly. Conversely, if you tend to write anything on your smartphone, you don’t need to drag or paste anything anywhere. The keyboard is the website per se, no matter where you write your text, it will fix the errors simultaneously. Even though Grammarly offers two options, one of them is paid one, using the keyboard is free of charge, just download it and enjoy writing flawless and clean essays.

Essays on Smartphone

In today's digital age, smartphones have become an essential part of our daily lives. From communication to entertainment, from productivity to social networking, smartphones have revolutionized the way we live and work. With the ever-growing popularity of smartphones, the choice of smartphone has become a crucial decision for many. In this essay, we will explore the various factors that one should consider when choosing a smartphone, and how to make an informed decision that best suits one's needs and preferences.

When it comes to choosing a smartphone, there are a plethora of options available in the market, each with its own set of features, specifications, and price points. With so many choices, it can be overwhelming to make the right decision. However, by considering certain key factors, one can narrow down the options and make a well-informed choice.

Operating System

The first and foremost factor to consider when choosing a smartphone is the operating system. There are primarily two dominant operating systems in the smartphone market – Android and iOS. Both operating systems have their own unique features and benefits, and the choice between the two largely depends on one's personal preference and usage. Android is known for its flexibility, customization options, and wide range of device options, while iOS is known for its seamless integration with other Apple devices, superior security, and optimized user experience. It's important to consider which operating system aligns best with one's needs and preferences before making a decision.

Hardware Specifications

Another important factor to consider is the hardware specifications of the smartphone. This includes the processor, RAM, storage capacity, camera quality, and battery life. The performance of a smartphone largely depends on its hardware specifications, and it's important to choose a smartphone that meets one's usage requirements. For instance, if one is a heavy multitasker and uses a lot of resource-intensive apps, a smartphone with a high-performance processor and ample RAM would be ideal. Similarly, if one is a photography enthusiast, a smartphone with a high-quality camera and ample storage capacity would be a priority.

Design and Build Quality

The design and build quality of a smartphone are also important considerations. Some people prefer sleek and slim designs, while others prioritize durability and ruggedness. The choice of design largely depends on one's personal style and usage. Additionally, the size and form factor of the smartphone should also be considered. Some people prefer larger-screen smartphones for media consumption and productivity, while others prefer smaller, more compact smartphones for portability and ease of use.

Display Quality

One cannot overlook the importance of the display quality when choosing a smartphone. The display is the primary interface through which one interacts with the smartphone, and it's important to choose a smartphone with a high-quality display that offers vibrant colors, sharp resolution, and good viewing angles. Additionally, factors such as display type (LCD, OLED, AMOLED), refresh rate, and brightness should also be considered.

Connectivity Options

Connectivity options such as 5G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC are also important considerations when choosing a smartphone. With the advent of 5G technology, having a smartphone that supports 5G connectivity can future-proof one's investment and ensure faster data speeds and lower latency. Additionally, having reliable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity is essential for seamless wireless connectivity with other devices.

Software and Ecosystem

One should also consider the software and ecosystem of the smartphone. This includes the availability of apps, software updates, and customer support. Both Android and iOS have a vast ecosystem of apps, but the availability of certain apps and the user experience may vary between the two platforms. It's important to consider the ecosystem that aligns best with one's needs and preferences.

Lastly, the price of the smartphone is a crucial factor to consider. Smartphones come in a wide range of price points, from budget-friendly options to premium flagship devices. It's important to set a budget and choose a smartphone that offers the best value for money. While premium flagship devices offer the latest and greatest features, budget-friendly options can also offer a compelling set of features at a more affordable price.

Choosing a smartphone is a decision that should be made based on careful consideration of various factors. By considering factors such as operating system, hardware specifications, design, display quality, connectivity options, software ecosystem, and price, one can make an informed decision that best suits one's needs and preferences. Ultimately, the choice of smartphone is a personal one, and it's important to choose a smartphone that aligns with one's lifestyle and usage.

Of course mobile phones are a boon given to the number of useful purposes they are used for like – internet, voice or video chat, documentation etc. Despite from the usual there are other uses like – social media and remain updated about the developments. Today every mobile phone user has a social media account, which he manages from his mobile phone. It helps him/her to remain connected to family and friends as well as other dignitaries like politicians, actors, cricketers etc.

But despite all the advantages, mobile phones could sometimes be annoying too. The use of mobile phones for various purposes and the accessibility of internet have compromised the privacy of the user. Also, every form that we fill today has a mandatory column asking to provide the phone number. Today the number of a common mobile phone user is available with many marketing agencies whose main aim is to sell their product. This loop hole in privacy has led to unwanted and unexpected marketing calls. People get annoying calls from insurance agents, marketing executives, etc, trying to sell their products to the mobile phone user, who is not at all interested.

Next in line is social media. Social media is a place where people share their views, pictures etc with those who are connected. However, this has also compromised the privacy to a certain level as someone undesirable could also peek into your account and send annoying messages; trailing you regularly. Such unwanted social buffs could be really annoying and some people are known to be trailed so regularly using inappropriate and indecent comments that they had to totally shut down their social media account.

In the end it would be more appropriate to say that mobile phones are both a boon and a bane. They are a boon when used appropriately and within limits but could be bane when they are used with mala fide intentions. Even a useful gadget as a mobile phone could be well annoying when it is used with the bad intention of deceiving someone, trailing him/her inappropriately on social media and other accounts.

The first smartphone was the Simon Personal Communicator, which was created in 1992. It combined features like a cell phone, pager, fax machine, and address book into one device. However, it was not until the 2000s that smartphones became truly popular.

One of the main reasons why smartphones are so popular is because they allow us to be connected to the internet at all times. This means we can stay up-to-date with what is happening in the world, check our email, and social media accounts, and even do online shopping.

Smartphones also allow us to stay connected with our friends and family members. We can call, text, or Facetime them whenever we want.

Smartphone use by Students:

Smartphones can be very beneficial for students. They can use them to look up information quickly, take notes in class, and stay organized. However, there are also some downsides to using a smartphone in school. For example, if a student is constantly on their phone, they might not be paying attention to the lecture and miss important information.

Some schools have banned the use of phones in class, while others have embraced them and even created apps that can be used for educational purposes. It is up to each individual school to decide what is best for their students.

There are some disadvantages to using smartphones too much. For example, if we are always looking at our phones, we might miss out on what is happening around us. We might also become addicted to our phones and spend too much time on them. This can lead to problems like sleep deprivation and anxiety.

Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives today. They have revolutionized the way we communicate, work and entertain ourselves. A smartphone is a handheld device that combines the features of a phone, computer, camera, and many other useful applications. It runs on an operating system that allows it to perform various tasks and access the internet.

Smartphones have many advantages. The most obvious one is communication. With just a few taps, we can easily call or message our loved ones anywhere in the world. Smartphones have made it possible for us to stay connected with people at all times, whether it’s through social media, video calls or instant messaging apps.

Apart from communication, smartphones also serve as a mini-computer. We can perform various tasks such as checking emails, browsing the web, making presentations and even working on documents. All these functions help us to stay productive and efficient in our daily lives.

Entertainment is another major aspect of smartphones. With access to various apps, we can listen to music, play games, watch movies and shows, and stay updated with the latest news. Smartphones also have built-in cameras that allow us to capture memories on-the-go.

However, smartphones also have their downsides. The constant use of smartphones can lead to addiction and affect our social interactions. They also expose us to cybercrimes and other online dangers. Hence, it is important to use them in moderation and be aware of the risks involved.

In conclusion, smartphones have become an essential gadget in today’s world. They have made our lives easier and more convenient. However, we must use them responsibly and balance their usage with other activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Essay on Mobile Phone 250 Words:

Mobile phones have become an integral part of our daily lives. From texting and calling to keeping track of our schedules and accessing the internet, mobile phones have revolutionized the way we communicate and stay connected with the world.

It is hard to imagine a day without a phone in today’s fast-paced world. In this essay, we will discuss the impact of mobile phones on our lives and society.

Convenience

One of the biggest advantages of mobile phones is the convenience they offer. With a phone in our pocket, we can easily call or text someone at any time. We no longer have to rely on landline telephones, which were not only expensive but also limited to one location.

Mobile phones have made it easier for us to stay connected with our loved ones, whether they are in the same city or across the globe. Moreover, with features like email and messaging apps, staying in touch has become more affordable and convenient.

Productivity

Mobile phones have also increased our productivity. With a smartphone in hand, we have access to the internet anytime and anywhere. This means that we can work on the go, respond to urgent emails, and keep track of important tasks even when we are not at our desks.

Mobile phones have made it possible for us to be constantly connected with our work or business, allowing us to be more efficient and productive.

Mobile phones have also played a crucial role in revolutionizing the education sector. With internet access on our phones, we can easily search for information and learn new things on the go. Many educational apps have been developed to make learning more interactive and engaging, which has greatly benefited students of all ages.

Moreover, mobile phones are now used as a tool for distance education, making it easier for people to pursue their studies while balancing other commitments.

Social Impact

While there are many benefits of mobile phones, it is important to acknowledge the social impact they have had on our lives. With easy access to social media platforms, people tend to spend more time on their phones than interacting with others in person.

This has resulted in a decline in face-to-face communication and has affected personal relationships adversely. The constant use of mobile phones has also led to issues like addiction, cyberbullying, and privacy concerns.

In conclusion, it is evident that mobile phones have greatly impacted our lives in many ways. While they have made communication easier and increased productivity, we must also be aware of the negative effects they may have on our social interactions and well-being.

It is important to find a balance and use this technology responsibly to make the most out of its benefits while minimizing any potential harm

Essay about Smartphone Addiction:

Smartphone addiction has become a common problem in today’s society. With the advancement of technology, smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives. We use them for communication, entertainment, and even as a tool for work.

However, this constant presence of smartphones has led to an increase in addiction among individuals. In this essay, we will explore the causes and consequences of smartphone addiction.

One of the main causes of smartphone addiction is the need for constant stimulation. We have become accustomed to receiving instant gratification from our smartphones in the form of notifications, likes, and messages.

This constant flow of information and entertainment can be addictive, making it difficult for individuals to detach themselves from their devices. As a result, individuals spend excessive amounts of time on their smartphones, leading to neglecting other important aspects of their lives such as relationships and responsibilities.

Another factor that contributes to smartphone addiction is the fear of missing out (FOMO). Social media platforms have created a culture where individuals feel the need to constantly check for updates and stay connected with others. This fear of being left out can lead to addictive behavior, causing individuals to constantly be on their phones even when it is not necessary. Moreover, the endless scrolling and comparing oneself with others on social media can have negative effects on one’s self-esteem and mental health.

The consequences of smartphone addiction can be detrimental. It affects our physical and mental well-being as we spend long hours hunched over our screens, leading to posture problems and eye strain.

Moreover, excessive use of smartphones has been linked to sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, and even decreased productivity. Additionally, smartphone addiction can also lead to financial issues as individuals may overspend on in-app purchases or data plans.

In conclusion, smartphone addiction is a growing concern in today’s society with various causes and consequences. It is important for individuals to recognize their usage patterns and take necessary steps to limit their screen time.

Setting boundaries and finding alternative forms of leisure can help combat the negative effects of smartphone addiction. It is crucial to find a balance and not let our smartphones control our lives. So, we should use it as a tool for convenience rather than letting it consume us completely.

Argumentative Essay about Smartphone Addiction:

Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives. With their ever-increasing features and capabilities, it’s no surprise that people have become increasingly dependent on them. However, this dependence can turn into an addiction – a condition that is becoming more prevalent in today’s society.

Smartphone addiction is a growing concern and it’s important to understand its causes, consequences, and solutions.

One major cause of smartphone addiction is the need for constant connectivity. Smartphones have made it incredibly easy to stay connected with others at all times through social media platforms, messaging apps and emails.

This constant connectivity has blurred the boundaries between work and personal life, making it difficult for individuals to disconnect from their devices. As a result, people feel anxious and restless when they are unable to check their phones. This leads to a cycle of constantly checking for notifications and messages, causing addiction.

The consequences of smartphone addiction are numerous. The excessive use of smartphones can lead to physical health problems such as eye strain, neck and back pain, and disrupted sleep patterns.

Additionally, constant scrolling through social media feeds can cause feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem as individuals compare their lives to the seemingly perfect lives portrayed on social media.

Moreover, smartphone addiction can also negatively impact personal relationships as individuals become more engrossed in their virtual world than the real world.

To combat smartphone addiction, individuals need to take proactive measures such as limiting screen time, practicing mindfulness and setting boundaries with their devices. It’s important for people to be aware of their smartphone usage patterns and make a conscious effort to disconnect from their phones during certain times of the day.

Furthermore, finding alternative activities that can provide a sense of fulfillment and relaxation, such as reading or exercising, can help reduce dependence on smartphones.

Overall, it’s essential for individuals to recognize the signs of smartphone addiction and take steps to maintain a healthy balance between technology and their daily lives.

In conclusion, while smartphones have undoubtedly improved our lives in many ways, we must also acknowledge the potential damage they can cause if not used in moderation. By understanding the causes, consequences and solutions of smartphone addiction, we can make informed decisions on how to use technology in a responsible and healthy manner.

Disadvantages of Smartphone Essay:

There are several disadvantages of using smartphones that we should be aware of. In this section, we will discuss some of the most common and concerning drawbacks associated with smartphone usage.

Firstly, one of the biggest problems with smartphones is addiction. With constant access to social media, games, and other forms of entertainment, it is easy to become glued to our phones all day long. This can lead to a decrease in productivity and overall well-being. Many people also experience anxiety and stress if they are separated from their smartphones for an extended period of time.

Another major disadvantage is the impact on our social interactions. With the rise of smartphones, face-to-face communication has decreased significantly. People often spend more time on their phones than engaging in conversations with those around them. This can lead to a decline in interpersonal skills and meaningful relationships.

Moreover, the excessive use of smartphones has also been linked to various health issues. Constantly staring at a screen can strain our eyes and cause headaches. The blue light emitted from phones can disrupt our sleep patterns, leading to fatigue and other related problems.

The constant use of smartphones can also contribute to sedentary behavior, leading to a more inactive lifestyle and potential health issues such as obesity.

Lastly, the constant need for upgrading to the latest smartphone models can also be a financial burden. Smartphones are expensive devices and constantly buying new ones can put a strain on our budgets. This pressure to keep up with the latest technology can also lead to feelings of inadequacy or inferiority if we cannot afford the newest models.

In conclusion, while smartphones offer numerous benefits and convenience, it is important to be aware of their disadvantages as well. It is essential to find a balance in our smartphone usage and not let them take over our lives completely. Limiting screen time, engaging in face-to-face interactions, and taking breaks from technology can help mitigate these drawbacks and promote a healthier relationship with our smartphones.

Smartphones in School Essay:

Smartphones have become a ubiquitous part of modern society, and their impact can be seen in all areas of our lives. This includes the education system, where smartphones have started to make their way into classrooms.

While some see this as a positive development, others argue that smartphones should not be allowed in schools. In this essay, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of allowing smartphones in schools.

On one hand, smartphones can be a great educational tool. Students have access to a vast amount of information at their fingertips, which allows them to conduct research quickly and efficiently. This can enhance their learning experience and help them stay up-to-date with current events.

Furthermore, smartphones can also come equipped with various educational apps that can make learning more engaging and interactive. These apps can be tailored to fit the needs of individual students, making learning more personalized.

However, there are also valid concerns about allowing smartphones in schools. One major concern is that smartphones can be a distraction for students. With access to social media and other forms of entertainment, students may find it difficult to focus on their studies. This distraction can have a negative impact on their academic performance and overall productivity.

Moreover, smartphones can also pose a security risk if not monitored properly. Students may use them to cheat on exams or engage in cyberbullying. This can create a negative and unsafe learning environment for students.

In conclusion, the use of smartphones in schools is a controversial topic with valid arguments on both sides. While smartphones can be beneficial in enhancing the learning experience, their potential to distract students and cause security issues cannot be ignored.

It is important for schools to carefully consider their policies regarding smartphone usage and find a balance between utilizing them for educational purposes while also monitoring their usage to avoid any negative consequences.

Cell Phone as an Indispensable Companion Essay

Life can be a tremendously overwhelming process depending on an individual’s direct surroundings. Challenges expert licensed require an inspiration factor particularly when an individual is away from home and relatives for some time.

Keeping contact with friends and kin is valuable in life to keep updated on what is occurring within the social order. There are several things in life we practically cannot live without which have proven to be of considerable help.

The cell phone has always been my most central companion and can be immensely categorized as the most noteworthy object in my existence.

This device has enabled me to keep up with friends and family and meet with new people who have contributed to my development and maturity in the current world characterized by inventions and socialization.

The portability attribute gives this device its splendor. The electronic machine is commonly found in all areas in the world hence easing the process of communication. It has brought a variety of innovative things for the user and to a substantial extent affected the way people relate in the globe.

I have used it for both private and specialized purposes in my occupation as a nurse. The cell phone is a vital way of communicating with superiors and colleagues while on the ground thus forestalling critical situations.

The phone enables the access of technologies like the camera and the related modifications. These have been helpful in several situations in my life. An example is a situation while at work when I had to deal with a tragedy involving a snake bite.

It was a life-threatening situation which involved identifying the snake to take the appropriate first-aid procedures. Through my know-how, I could make out the snake, but it had a particularly different shade of color which I could not relate to.

In nursing, there is room for risk-taking, so I had to be particularly certain on practical action to save the life of the combatant.

Luckily I remembered just in time that my phone had an inbuilt camera. I quickly photographed the snake and uploaded the image to a snake specialist who readily identified the species and advised us on how to deal with the situation.

Apart from the camera, there are several other features which increase the importance of this gadget. The latest phone offers superb quality music which is necessary for leisure purposes.

As a nurse, I was exposed to many situations while assisting navy personnel who are frequently faced with crises. Their controlling character personality constantly made the work look harder than it was; hence once in a while, I would listen to tunes from my phone to relax.

In today’s busy society, having a portable device to communicate through is expedient. Whether it is sending messages through the Internet or getting updated on the latest news, my cell phone has ensured that I am aware of the latest happenings.

Having reachable Internet is indispensable especially to a student who is required to do research. A feature like an alarm clock has enabled me to keep time for appointments and lectures.

The need for carrying several electronic devices like cameras, recorders, and melody players has been considerably reduced. An ultra-modern handset is presently equipped with all the features thus reducing the stress associated with carrying several types of equipment.

The technical progress has been of immense use in storing files in the form of text applications on the phone. Most of these features have eliminated carrying of bulky books and laptops in class especially when the cell phone has a memory of 10 GB.

One of the desired applications of the cell phone is the ease of handling transactions. The risk of walking around with money amidst widespread mugging is reduced by the phone’s ability to administer on-spot transactions.

Electronic transfers involved in paying education fees are easy to perform compared to the long lines experienced in banking. Surveys indicate that students of a different kind use the cell phone frequently compared with other citizens.

As a student, its use is indispensable as evident in scholarly responsibilities. With lighter and more complicated versions being invented, it has continued to gain popularity among students.

My phone has a tracking contrivance through which it can be traced when lost, and can locate exactly where an individual is through GPRS, helping others tell my exact location.

Anything which is dominant transforms the social order; the cell phone has dwarfed the impact of other inventions like the TV. Everybody will find this device to be necessary for routine processes.

My mobile phone is a gadget which has profoundly influenced my daily activities; however, the cell phone has its disadvantages.

Privacy is not guaranteed as anybody can determine my location without my will; furthermore, its injurious health effects may discourage an individual from owning a handset.

In this world of constantly advancing expertise and competition, I foresee more features being added to this object and greater technology to reduce its health effects. Its benefits are more than the disadvantages in several aspects. This object remains vital to my livelihood.

Cell Phone Essay

In this cell phone essay you have to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the way in which cell phones and the internet dominate the ways in which people relate to each other socially.

This is the question:

These days, cell (mobile) phones and the internet are very important to the ways in which people relate to one another socially.

Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Analysing the Question

This is a type of question that has appeared in the IELTS test a few times:

  • The impacts of technology on the way we communicate with each other

With IELTS essay questions, you always need to note carefully exactly what you are being asked to write about.

In this case it is about cell / mobile phones and the internet . So you must write about both . Sometimes an essay may just ask you about one or the other.

This is also important in this cell phone essay:

  • 'The way in which people communicate with each other socially'

my smart phone essay

You are  not  being asked about work situations but social situations. So you should  not  talk about how these types of technology have impacted on organisations or workers.

You are also being asked if there are  more advantages or disadvantages . So you must clearly state your opinion on this and also write about both in your cell phone essay (as the suggestion is that there are both).

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or knowledge.

Write at least 250 words.

Cell Phone Essay Model Answer

It is rare these days to find someone who does not communicate and interact with others through a cell phone or the internet as they are widespread throughout society. I believe that the benefits of this development outweigh the drawbacks.

One main negative consequence of this development is that people may have become disconnected in relation to conversing with each other face-to-face. People now tend to use their cell phones or the internet to communicate, but rather than actually speaking, they send a message. Some of the most popular applications are WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Line, all of which encourage messaging. The result of this is that people may lack the benefits of engaging with others in conversation and the closeness this brings.

Despite this, there are several important advantages as well. Firstly, the internet and cell phones mean that people can stay connected however far away they are from each other. For instance, these days, many people live in different countries or go travelling in different countries. Cell phones and the internet mean that parents can easily keep in touch with their children who are on holiday and people who immigrate to live abroad can easily communicate with their loved ones when needed. In addition to this, the internet means that people also interact with strangers and increase their knowledge of other cultures because through such things as Facebook, people connect to all sorts of people around the world, becoming friends and also discussing and exchanging knowledge.

In conclusion, although a disadvantage of the internet and cell phones is the lack of face-to-face conversation, they have improved the way we can stay in contact with loved ones and exchange ideas with new people. Overall then, this is a positive development for society.

In today’s generation, our technology has been very advance. In the past, mobile phones are just used to communicate to anyone and anywhere. But in this present time, they are more than just a communication device. They have been a necessity in our everyday lives. Even children nowadays have their own cell phones. Many teenagers today describe their cell phones as their “life”. But as for me, I own a Blackberry Curve 3G phone and it can be very useful for communication, school, and entertainment. The main use of my mobile phone is for communication.

Describe a mobile phone

I can use it for sending text messages and for calling anyone from anywhere in the island without a landline connection. It also allows me to call for help during times of

emergencies. For example, if I encountered an accident, I can immediately call my friends or family for help. And any cellular phones can make a call to 911 in case there is no service to where the person is, or in case he has no load. In the past, whenever a person needs to get a hold of someone, he can only call them using their landline phone.

Or if he is not home, he needs to run to the nearest telephone booth to make a call. Because of technological advancements, I can also use my phone for sending e-mails and instant messages through Blackberry Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and MSN. Even social networks like Facebook and Twitter that can only be accessed through the computer can now be accessed on my phone. I will never be bored when I have my cell phone. It is not jus

a great communication device; it can be a good source of entertainment as well.

My favorite thing is my mobile phone

My phone’s entertainment feature is very useful whenever I am waiting for my ride, waiting for my next class or if I have a doctor’s appointment. There are thousands of free games available that can be downloaded easily. With the access on the internet, I can go on YouTube, Google, and Yahoo! anytime. I do not have to bring a camera, iPod, or mp3 players separately because my mobile phone has all their features. I can take pictures and videos, listen to music, watch movies, and play games with it.

It is hard to picture life as it was before the mobile phone was invented. I do not just use my phone’s entertainment feature for pleasure and entertainment, but for educational purposes as well. I cannot always go to the computer lab or use the computers in the classroom to look up something, so it is very convenient to go on Google on my phone. Having a dictionary with me helps a lot in writing my essays in English class, but having a dictionary on my phone is more convenient and saves more space in my bag.

I also use my phone as a calculator for mathematics class. My phone’s organizer helps me organize my plans and schedule of activities and events that I need to attend. My cell phone, being lightweight and small is very convenient to have and can be used anytime. A device small enough to fit in my pocket that can be used to communicate, for entertainment, and of good help in school is

a great invention. Carrying it will not be a hassle for me since it is small. Having all the features mentioned above in just one cell phone makes my life easier.

Americans check their phones 144 times a day: How you can break bad digital habits

thumbnail

Smartphones, first introduced in 1992, have become an integral part of our everyday lives — from communicating with loved ones to managing our finances.

The frequent use of them and other tech devices can be draining and distracting and still, it is difficult for us to cut down. Americans check their phones 144 times a day on average, according to a 2023 survey by Reviews.org .

Constantly looking at your smartphone can negatively impact the depth of your conversations, Anastasia Dedyukhina , a digital wellbeing expert, tells CNBC Make It. This is true even if it's just on a table nearby during a chat with a friend or colleague, according to a 2014 study .

"If I had my smartphone next to me, it would attract my attention, consciously or unconsciously," Dedyukhina says.

"I would also keep thinking about it because for our minds, a smartphone and the sound of a smartphone is a highly attractive stimuli. So when I hear my phone ringing and make a notification, for my mind, it's the same as if you were calling me by my name."

Frequently switching between tasks can have consequences on your health, according to Gloria Mark , a professor of informatics at the University of California, Irvine, who wrote a book about attention span and how to refocus when distracted. Shifting what you're focusing on often can increase levels of stress, require more mental effort to complete tasks and cause feelings of frustration and time pressure, Mark told Fast Company in 2008.

Here are some tips for practicing digital mindfulness from Dedyukhina who ditched her smartphone for a year and half.

4 tips for digital mindfulness in a tech-driven world

"Rather than trying to limit the bad habit, I would very much encourage you to have more good habits," Dedyukhina says.

These are a few healthy habits that she recommends adding to your routine:

  • Spend more time outdoors
  • Move your body often
  • Schedule time to hang out with your friends and family. It's even better if you plan an activity to do together

Subconsciously you may wonder if you're missing something

Perhaps one of the best ways you can be more mindful about your relationship with technology is by "removing gadgets out of your sight completely" during certain times of the day, Dedyukhina notes.

The simple practice of "not having your smartphone next to you when you're working if you don't need it" can help you to achieve more and increase your productivity, she says.

In a 2017 study of more than 500 undergraduate students, researchers randomly assigned participants to place their smartphones on their desk, in their pocket/bag or in a separate room as they completed cognitive capacity tests. Each group's members were told to put their phones on silent to prevent any interrupting sounds during the experiment.

Participants who left their phones in a separate room while answering the questions scored the highest, and those who kept their phones on their desks scored the lowest.

"Remember, it's a high priority, the phone, so subconsciously your mind is thinking, 'What if I'm missing something? What if there is something interesting?'" Dedyukhina says.

"So in a way you're not dedicating 100% of your energy to what you're doing, whether you're communicating with somebody, whether you're learning or whether you're working."

In the end, it's best to ask yourself what's triggering you to reach for your phone so often in the first place.

"If I take away your smartphone, you'll probably end up eating sugar or doing something else," she says. "So the problem is not the smartphone right?"

"Just pause there before you make any action and ask yourself, 'Why am I doing this exactly?' I won't suggest that you forbid yourself to do anything. But I would suggest taking a five-second pause."

Guernica’s founder defends retracting Israeli coexistence essay that caused firestorm

my smart phone essay

( JTA ) — The founder of Guernica, the progressive literary magazine that published and then retracted an essay by an Israeli writer last month , says he never wanted to publish the piece in the first place.

In a seven-paragraph statement published on Guernica’s website Friday , Michael Archer writes that he thought from the start that the essay, “From the Edges of a Broken World” by Joanna Chen, was a departure from the journal’s values.

“When Jina [Moore, the editor in chief and publisher of the magazine] called my attention to this piece, I disagreed that it was a fit for the magazine,” Archer wrote, explaining, “Rather than mine the personal to expose the political, individual angst was elevated above the collective suffering laid bare in the extensive body of work Guernica has published from the region.”

The statement, titled “Moving Forward,” appears to be the “more fulsome explanation” the publication promised in early March when it removed the essay, opening a new frontline in a broad battle over the Israel-Hamas war in the literary world . More than a dozen members of Guernica’s volunteer staff resigned to protest Chen’s essay, and Moore, who advocated for Chen’s essay, resigned earlier this month.

Chen, a British-Israeli leftist, wrote in the piece how, despite the massacre of Israelis on Oct. 7, she was trying to stay committed to her belief in Israeli-Arab coexistence. Madhuri Sastry, a co-publisher of the magazine, called the essay “a hand-wringing apologia for Zionism and the ongoing genocide in Palestine.”

In his statement, Archer says he and other members of Guernica’s volunteer staff had engaged in fierce discussions about the essay and the questions it posed both before and after its publication.

He also said he had appointed a new publisher, Magogodi aoMphela Makhene, a South African fiction writer and antiracist educator. In her own statement , Makhene wrote, “Especially in this season, I look forward to helping build a Guernica that’s alive with the messy and electric charge that is our shared humanity; a publication courageous enough to see our full complexity and offer a lighthouse illuminating our highest possibilities.”

In her first interview since the firestorm, Moore told Semafor’s Ben Smith in an interview published Monday that Chen’s essay had undergone the same editorial process as other pieces Guernica published during her tenure and rejected Archer’s suggestion that she had overridden his objections to publish it.

Moore said she found Archer’s portrayal of the essay as focusing on “personal angst” to be “dismissive.” She said she thought Chen had presented an important perspective, even though she said that in retrospect and given the feedback she had received, she might have edited it differently.

“I understood it to be asking an important question. I understood it not to necessarily find a particularly great answer,” Moore said about Chen’s essay, which has since been republished by Washington Monthly . “The sort of baseline question I understood it to be asking is: How can you operate from a position of empathy in such a moment? One of my takeaways from the piece was [that] it’s very difficult and it might not be possible.”

Smith asked Moore, who has reported from conflict zones around the world and lived extensively in East Africa, whether she saw what is happening in Gaza as “such an out-of-scale crazy set of atrocities by the Israelis” that it should not be subject to normal rules of debate and discourse. “I don’t think I’m qualified to answer that question,” she answered.

Smith also asked whether she thought the firestorm over Chen’s essay was “driven by antisemitism.” Critics of the decision to retract it said the episode was further evidence of antisemitic discourse in progressive and literary spaces .

Moore’s answer: “I’m not going to speculate about what’s inside people’s heads.”

She said she thought it was Guernica, and not Chen’s essay, that marked a departure from the 15-year-old literary magazine’s values.

“It’s not uncommon for smart people to disagree about how they interpret a piece. And I think that
in publishing, that’s a virtue and not a threat,” Moore said. “I don’t really know how to do a publication in a different way, which is one reason I knew I didn’t belong there anymore.”

NPR suspends senior editor Uri Berliner after essay accusing outlet of liberal bias

Npr suspended senior editor uri berliner a week after he authored an online essay accusing the outlet of allowing liberal bias in its coverage..

my smart phone essay

NPR has suspended a senior editor who authored an essay published last week on an online news site in which he argued that the network had "lost America's trust" because of a liberal bias in its coverage, the outlet reported.

Uri Berliner was suspended Friday for five days without pay, NPR reported Tuesday . The revelation came exactly a week after Berliner publicly claimed in an essay for The Free Press, an online news publication, that NPR had allowed a "liberal bent" to influence its coverage, causing the outlet to steadily lose credibility with audiences.

The essay reignited the criticism that many prominent conservatives have long leveled against NPR and prompted newsroom leadership to implement monthly internal reviews of the network's coverage, NPR reported. Berliner's essay also angered many of his colleagues and exposed NPR's new chief executive Katherine Maher to a string of attacks from conservatives over her past social media posts.

In a statement Monday to NPR, Maher refuted Berliner's claims by underscoring NPR's commitment to objective coverage of national issues.

"In America everyone is entitled to free speech as a private citizen," Maher said. "What matters is NPR's work and my commitment as its CEO: public service, editorial independence, and the mission to serve all of the American public. NPR is independent, beholden to no party, and without commercial interests."

Berliner rails against NPR's coverage of COVID-19, diversity efforts

Berliner, a senior business editor who has worked at NPR for 25 years, argued in the Free Press essay that “people at every level of NPR have comfortably coalesced around the progressive worldview.”

While he claimed that NPR has always had a "liberal bent" ever since he was hired at the outlet, he wrote that it has since lost its "open-minded spirit," and, hence, "an audience that reflects America."

The Peabody Award-winning journalist highlighted what he viewed as examples of the network's partisan coverage of several major news events, including the origins of COVID-19 and the war in Gaza . Berliner also lambasted NPR's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies – as reflected both within its newsroom and in its coverage – as making race and identity "paramount in nearly every aspect of the workplace.”

"All this reflected a broader movement in the culture of people clustering together based on ideology or a characteristic of birth," he wrote.

Uri Berliner's essay fuels conservative attacks on NPR

In response to the essay, many prominent conservatives and Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, launched renewed attacks at NPR for what they perceive as partisan coverage.

Conservative activist Christopher Rufo in particular targeted Maher for messages she posted to social media years before joining the network – her  first at a news organization . Among the posts singled out were  a 2020 tweet that called Trump racist .

Trump reiterated on his social media platform, Truth Social, his longstanding argument that NPR’s government funding should be rescinded.

NPR issues formal rebuke to Berliner

Berliner provided an NPR reporter with a copy of the formal rebuke for review in which the organization told the editor he had not been approved to write for other news outlets, as is required of NPR journalists.

NPR also said he publicly released confidential proprietary information about audience demographics, the outlet reported.

Leadership said the letter was a "final warning" for Berliner, who would be fired for future violations of NPR's policies, according to NPR's reporting. Berliner, who is a dues-paying member of NPR's newsroom union, told the NPR reporter that he is not appealing the punishment.

A spokeswoman for NPR said the outlet declined to comment on Berliner's essay or the news of his suspension when reached Tuesday by USA TODAY.

"NPR does not comment on individual personnel matters, including discipline," according to the statement. "We expect all of our employees to comply with NPR policies and procedures, which for our editorial staff includes the NPR Ethics Handbook ."

NPR staffer express dismay; leadership puts coverage reviews in place

According to the NPR article, Berliner's essay also invoked the ire of many of his colleagues and the reporters whose stories he would be responsible for editing.

"Newsrooms run on trust," NPR political correspondent Danielle Kurtzleben said in a post last week on social media site X, though he didn't mention Berliner by name. "If you violate everyone's trust by going to another outlet and [expletive] on your colleagues (while doing a bad job journalistically, for that matter), I don't know how you do your job now."

Amid the fallout, NPR reported that NPR's chief news executive Edith Chapin announced to the newsroom late Monday afternoon that Executive Editor Eva Rodriguez would lead monthly meetings to review coverage.

Berliner expressed no regrets about publishing the essay in an interview with NPR, adding that he tried repeatedly to make his concerns over NPR's coverage known to news leaders.

"I love NPR and feel it's a national trust," Berliner says. "We have great journalists here. If they shed their opinions and did the great journalism they're capable of, this would be a much more interesting and fulfilling organization for our listeners."

Francis Collins: Why I’m going public with my prostate cancer diagnosis

I served medical research. now it’s serving me. and i don’t want to waste time..

Over my 40 years as a physician-scientist, I’ve had the privilege of advising many patients facing serious medical diagnoses. I’ve seen them go through the excruciating experience of waiting for the results of a critical blood test, biopsy or scan that could dramatically affect their future hopes and dreams.

But this time, I was the one lying in the PET scanner as it searched for possible evidence of spread of my aggressive prostate cancer . I spent those 30 minutes in quiet prayer. If that cancer had already spread to my lymph nodes, bones, lungs or brain, it could still be treated — but it would no longer be curable.

Why am I going public about this cancer that many men are uncomfortable talking about? Because I want to lift the veil and share lifesaving information, and I want all men to benefit from the medical research to which I’ve devoted my career and that is now guiding my care.

Five years before that fateful PET scan, my doctor had noted a slow rise in my PSA, the blood test for prostate-specific antigen. To contribute to knowledge and receive expert care, I enrolled in a clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health, the agency I led from 2009 through late 2021.

At first, there wasn’t much to worry about — targeted biopsies identified a slow-growing grade of prostate cancer that doesn’t require treatment and can be tracked via regular checkups, referred to as “active surveillance.” This initial diagnosis was not particularly surprising. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the United States, and about 40 percent of men over age 65 — I’m 73 — have low-grade prostate cancer . Many of them never know it, and very few of them develop advanced disease.

Why am I going public about this cancer that many men are uncomfortable talking about? Because I want to lift the veil and share lifesaving information.

But in my case, things took a turn about a month ago when my PSA rose sharply to 22 — normal at my age is less than 5. An MRI scan showed that the tumor had significantly enlarged and might have even breached the capsule that surrounds the prostate, posing a significant risk that the cancer cells might have spread to other parts of the body.

New biopsies taken from the mass showed transformation into a much more aggressive cancer. When I heard the diagnosis was now a 9 on a cancer-grading scale that goes only to 10, I knew that everything had changed.

Thus, that PET scan, which was ordered to determine if the cancer had spread beyond the prostate, carried high significance. Would a cure still be possible, or would it be time to get my affairs in order? A few hours later, when my doctors showed me the scan results, I felt a rush of profound relief and gratitude. There was no detectable evidence of cancer outside of the primary tumor.

Later this month, I will undergo a radical prostatectomy — a procedure that will remove my entire prostate gland. This will be part of the same NIH research protocol — I want as much information as possible to be learned from my case, to help others in the future.

While there are no guarantees, my doctors believe I have a high likelihood of being cured by the surgery.

My situation is far better than my father’s when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer four decades ago. He was about the same age that I am now, but it wasn’t possible back then to assess how advanced the cancer might be. He was treated with a hormonal therapy that might not have been necessary and had a significant negative impact on his quality of life.

Because of research supported by NIH, along with highly effective collaborations with the private sector, prostate cancer can now be treated with individualized precision and improved outcomes.

As in my case, high-resolution MRI scans can now be used to delineate the precise location of a tumor. When combined with real-time ultrasound, this allows pinpoint targeting of the prostate biopsies. My surgeon will be assisted by a sophisticated robot named for Leonardo da Vinci that employs a less invasive surgical approach than previous techniques, requiring just a few small incisions.

Advances in clinical treatments have been informed by large-scale, rigorously designed trials that have assessed the risks and benefits and were possible because of the willingness of cancer patients to enroll in such trials.

I feel compelled to tell this story openly. I hope it helps someone. I don’t want to waste time.

If my cancer recurs, the DNA analysis that has been carried out on my tumor will guide the precise choice of therapies. As a researcher who had the privilege of leading the Human Genome Project , it is truly gratifying to see how these advances in genomics have transformed the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

I want all men to have the same opportunity that I did. Prostate cancer is still the No. 2 cancer killer among men. I want the goals of the Cancer Moonshot to be met — to end cancer as we know it. Early detection really matters, and when combined with active surveillance can identify the risky cancers like mine, and leave the rest alone. The five-year relative survival rate for prostate cancer is 97 percent, according to the American Cancer Society , but it’s only 34 percent if the cancer has spread to distant areas of the body.

But lack of information and confusion about the best approach to prostate cancer screening have impeded progress. Currently, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that all men age 55 to 69 discuss PSA screening with their primary-care physician, but it recommends against starting PSA screening after age 70.

Other groups, like the American Urological Association , suggest that screening should start earlier, especially for men with a family history — like me — and for African American men, who have a higher risk of prostate cancer. But these recommendations are not consistently being followed.

Our health-care system is afflicted with health inequities. For example, the image-guided biopsies are not available everywhere and to everyone. Finally, many men are fearful of the surgical approach to prostate cancer because of the risk of incontinence and impotence, but advances in surgical techniques have made those outcomes considerably less troublesome than in the past. Similarly, the alternative therapeutic approaches of radiation and hormonal therapy have seen significant advances.

A little over a year ago, while I was praying for a dying friend, I had the experience of receiving a clear and unmistakable message. This has almost never happened to me. It was just this: “Don’t waste your time, you may not have much left.” Gulp.

Having now received a diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer and feeling grateful for all the ways I have benefited from research advances, I feel compelled to tell this story openly. I hope it helps someone. I don’t want to waste time.

Francis S. Collins served as director of the National Institutes of Health from 2009 to 2021 and as director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at NIH from 1993 to 2008. He is a physician-geneticist and leads a White House initiative to eliminate hepatitis C in the United States, while also continuing to pursue his research interests as a distinguished NIH investigator.

An earlier version of this article said prostate cancer is the No. 2 killer of men. It is the No. 2 cause of cancer death among men. The article has been updated.

NPR Editor Who Accused Broadcaster of Liberal Bias Resigns

Uri Berliner, who has worked at NPR for 25 years, said in an essay last week that the nonprofit had allowed progressive bias to taint its coverage.

Uri Berliner, the NPR editor who accused the broadcaster of liberal bias in an online essay last week, prompting criticism from conservatives and recrimination from many of his co-workers, has resigned from the nonprofit.

Mr. Berliner said in a social media post on Wednesday that he was resigning because of criticism from the network’s chief executive, Katherine Maher.

“I cannot work in a newsroom where I am disparaged by a new C.E.O. whose divisive views confirm the very problems at NPR I cite in my Free Press essay,” Mr. Berliner wrote.

In his brief resignation letter, addressed to Ms. Maher, Mr. Berliner said he loved NPR, calling it a “great American institution” and adding that he respects “the integrity of my colleagues and wish for NPR to thrive and do important journalism.”

An NPR spokeswoman, Isabel Lara, said the nonprofit does not comment on personnel matters.

In an interview, Mr. Berliner said his decision to resign from NPR coalesced early this week after an email exchange with Ms. Maher. He said in the interview that he could infer from one of her emails that a memo she had sent to employees last week about workplace integrity was referring to him even though he had not been mentioned by name. In the email, which was sent to Mr. Berliner on Monday, Ms. Maher said her memo “stands for itself in reflecting my perspective on our organization.”

“Everything completely changed for me on Monday afternoon,” Mr. Berliner said.

Mr. Berliner’s essay stirred up a hornet’s nest of criticism of NPR and made Mr. Berliner something of a pariah within the network. Several employees told The New York Times that they no longer wished to work with him, and his essay was denounced by Edith Chapin, the network’s top editor.

Many journalists at NPR pushed back against the essay, including the “Morning Edition” host Steve Inskeep, who said on the newsletter platform Substack that Mr. Berliner failed to “engage anyone who had a different point of view.”

“This article needed a better editor,” Mr. Inskeep wrote. “I don’t know who, if anyone, edited Uri’s story, but they let him publish an article that discredited itself.”

Mr. Berliner’s essay found some defenders among the ranks of former NPR employees. Jeffrey A. Dvorkin, a former ombudsman, said on social media that Mr. Berliner was “not wrong.” Chuck Holmes, a former managing editor at NPR, called Mr. Berliner’s essay “brave” on Facebook.

Critics of NPR, including conservative activists, used Mr. Berliner’s essay in The Free Press to impugn the network’s journalism and its leadership. One of them, Christopher Rufo, began resurfacing social media posts from Ms. Maher that were critical of President Donald J. Trump and embraced progressive causes. Mr. Rufo has a history of pressuring media organizations to cover critical stories of well-known figures, including the plagiarism allegations against Claudine Gay, the former Harvard president.

NPR said in a statement earlier this week that Ms. Maher’s social media posts predated her term as chief executive, adding that she was not working in news at the time.

Before he resigned from NPR, Mr. Berliner was on a five-day suspension from the network for violating company policy against working for outside organizations without securing permission.

Mr. Berliner said he did not have any immediate plans after leaving NPR, adding that he was looking forward to getting more sleep and spending time with his family.
