  • Recycling Basics and Benefits

Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling can benefit your community, the economy, and the environment. Products should only be recycled if they cannot be reduced or reused. EPA promotes the waste management hierarchy , which ranks various waste management strategies from most to least environmentally preferred. The hierarchy prioritizes source reduction and the reuse of waste materials over recycling.

On this page:

In the United States in 2018, 292.4 million tons of trash were generated. 146.2 million tons ended up in landfills.

Benefits of Recycling

  • Recycling System Overview

Challenges to Recycling System

What is being done, environment.

Recycling provides many benefits to our environment. By recycling our materials, we create a healthier planet for ourselves and future generations.

Conserve natural resources: Recycling reduces the need to extract resources such as timber, water, and minerals for new products.

Climate change: According to the most recent EPA data , the recycling and composting of municipal solid waste (MSW or trash) saved over 193 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2018.

Energy savings: Recycling conserves energy. For example, recycling just 10 plastic bottles saves enough energy to power a laptop for more than 25 hours. To estimate how much energy you can save by recycling certain products, EPA developed the individual Waste Reduction Model (iWARM).

Waste and pollution reduction: Recycling diverts waste away from landfills and incinerators, which reduces the harmful effects of pollution and emissions.

EPA released significant findings on the economic benefits of the recycling industry with an update to the national Recycling Economic Information (REI) Study in 2020. This study analyzes the numbers of jobs, wages and tax revenues attributed to recycling. The study found that in a single year, recycling and reuse activities in the United States accounted for:

  • 681,000 jobs,
  • $37.8 billion in wages, and
  • $5.5 billion in tax revenues.

This equates to 1.17 jobs per 1,000 tons of materials recycled and $65.23 in wages and $9.42 in tax revenue for every ton of materials recycled. For more information, check out the full report .

Environmental Justice: Across the country, waste management facilities are concentrated in underserved communities, and they can have negative impacts on human health, property values, aesthetic and recreation values, and land productivity. Recycling provides these areas with a healthier and more sustainable alternative.

International: Waste generated in the United States also affects communities in other countries. Recycled materials are exported to some countries that are not able to manage those materials in an environmentally sound manner.

U.S. Recycling System Overview

The recycling process is made up of three steps that are repeated over and over again. This creates a continuous loop which is represented by the familiar chasing arrows recycling symbol. The three steps of the recycling process are described below.

Step 1: Collection and Processing

Businesses and consumers generate recyclables that are then collected by either a private hauler or government entity. There are several methods for collecting recyclables, including curbside collection, drop-off centers, and deposit or refund programs. Visit How do I recycle... Common Recyclables for information on specific materials.

After collection, recyclables are sent to a recovery facility to be sorted, cleaned, and processed into materials that can be used in manufacturing. Recyclables are bought and sold just like raw materials would be, and prices go up and down depending on supply and demand in the United States and around the world.

Step 2: Manufacturing

After processing, recyclables are made into new products at a recycling plant or similar facility. More and more of today's products are being manufactured with recycled content.

Recycled materials are also used in new ways such as recovered glass in asphalt to pave roads or recovered plastic in carpeting and park benches.

Step 3: Purchasing New Products Made from Recycled Materials

You help close the recycling loop by buying new products made from recycled materials. There are thousands of products that contain recycled content. When you go shopping, look for the following:

  • Products that can be easily recycled
  • Products that contain recycled content

Below are some of the terms used:

  • Recycled-content product - The product was manufactured with recycled materials either collected from a recycling program or from waste recovered during the normal manufacturing process. The label will sometimes include how much of the content came from recycled materials.
  • Post-consumer content - Very similar to recycled content, but the material comes only from recyclables collected from consumers or businesses through a recycling program.
  • Recyclable product - Products that can be collected, processed, and manufactured into new products after they have been used. These products do not necessarily contain recycled materials. Remember not all kinds of recyclables may be collected in your community, so be sure to check with your local recycling program before you buy.

Some common products you can find that are made with recycled content include the following:

  • Aluminum cans
  • Car bumpers
  • Cereal boxes
  • Comic books
  • Egg cartons
  • Glass containers
  • Laundry detergent bottles
  • Paper towels
  • Steel products

While the benefits of recycling are clear, the current system still faces many challenges.

  • Many people are confused about what items can be recycled, where they can be recycled and how. This often leads to recyclables going in the trash or trash going in the recycling bin.
  • America’s recycling infrastructure has not kept pace with today’s waste stream. Communication between the manufacturers of new materials and products and the recycling industry needs to be improved to prepare for and optimally manage the recycling of new materials.
  • Domestic markets for recycled materials need to be strengthened in the United States. Historically, some of the recycled materials generated in the U.S. have been exported internationally. However, changing international policies have limited the export of materials. Improving communication among the different sectors of the recycling system is needed to strengthen the development of existing materials markets and to develop new innovative markets.
  • We need to better integrate recycled materials and end-of-life management into product and packaging designs.
  • More consistent measurement methodologies are necessary to improve recycling system performance. These more standardized metrics can then be used to create effective goals and track progress.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: Transforming U.S. Recycling and Waste Management:   The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a historic investment in the health, equity, and resilience of American communities. With unprecedented funding to support state and local waste management infrastructure and recycling programs, EPA will improve health and safety and help establish and increase recycling programs nationwide.

National Recycling Strategy : EPA developed the National Recycling Strategy with a focus on advancing the national municipal solid waste recycling system. It identifies strategic objectives and actions to create a stronger, more resilient, and cost-effective recycling system.

Draft Strategy to Prevent Plastics Pollution: This strategy builds upon EPA’s National Recycling Strategy and focuses on actions to reduce, reuse, collect, and capture plastic waste.

America Recycles Day : Every year on November 15, EPA reminds everyone of the importance and impact of recycling through education and outreach.

Basel Convention :  The United States is a signatory to the Basel Convention, but has not yet become a Party to the Convention. The Basel Convention establishes standards for the transboundary movement of various types of waste.

What is recycling—and why is it so important to recycle? This helpful guide covers everything you should know.

presentation about the importance of recycling

For many of us, recycling has become second nature. Our plastic bottles and paper waste go in their respective bins, and the waste gets picked up on the curb. Yet, even though recycling is a staple in our routines, many of us still don't know what recycling actually is .

Recycling is more than just putting paper and plastic waste in a bin. And believe it or not, many items that have a recycling symbol aren't actually recyclable. So how do we know what's being recycled and what isn't?

To ensure our recycling actually gets recycled, we need to understand what recycling means and what it does for the planet. Here is your go-to guide to recycling.

What Is Recycling?

presentation about the importance of recycling

So, what is recycling? According to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) , recycling is the "process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products." The collection stage begins the process, and it's usually the part we consumers participate in. We collect our plastic, paper, metal, and electronic waste . And then we dispose of each in respectively labeled bins.

However, recycling is more than just dividing your waste. You may get rid of your waste via drop-off locations, curbside pickup, or deposit programs, but the recycling isn't complete. The recycling process has only just begun.

After waste gets picked up, it's sent to a facility to get sorted. The sorting process is done by both machinery and employees who make sure everything in the bin actually can be recycled. And once the waste is sorted, it gets processed and sold to various markets.

Once sent to manufacturers, your waste is ready to be remade into something new. Check the labels on your household items. Some of your clothes, detergent containers, and paper towels may be made using recycled materials. This leads us to our next point: Recycling matters.

Why Is Recycling Important?

presentation about the importance of recycling

The simple answer is: Recycling is important because it's good for the environment. But there's more.

Humans generate a lot of waste. Some of it's physical, including the trash in our kitchen bins . And some of it is harder to see, such as fuel, chemicals, and energy. Both come into play when our garbage ends up in the landfill .

However, recycling keeps non- biodegradable products out of landfills. This then prevents greenhouse gas emissions from getting released and trapped in the atmosphere. According to the EPA, 292.4 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) was produced in 2018. That's 4.9 pounds per person per day. Of the MSW generated, about 69 million tons were recycled. That's 69 million tons of waste kept out of the landfill.

Plus, recycling materials can cut down energy consumption. If one ton of office paper is recycled, it saves the energy equivalent of consuming 322 gallons of gasoline . In addition, recycling 10 plastic bottles can save enough energy to power a laptop for over 25 hours.

Recycling can even reduce the need to extract natural materials from the environment. To create new items out of natural materials, manufacturers often contribute to deforestation , thus destroying natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Plus, the sourcing of natural materials still creates air and water pollution.

Because recycling decreases landfill waste, saves energy, and conserves natural resources, it also decreases carbon emissions and mitigates global warming's impact . So recycling can help you decrease your carbon footprint and live more sustainably.

Even still, recycling only does this when it's done correctly—and it can be tricky to get it right. That's why it's just as important to know which items can and can't be recycled.

What You Can Do to Help

presentation about the importance of recycling

1. Learn the Labels

The tiny triangle that tells you an item is recyclable isn't enough. On plastic items specifically, there may be a number 1-7 printed on the item. This number represents the type of plastic the item is made of, thus telling you how it can be recycled.

Your local recycling facility has a more detailed description of what to do with each type of plastic. That's why it's important to know the recycling rules in your area. What's recyclable for a friend in a city 1,000 miles away might not be recyclable for you.

2. Clean Your Recyclables

Most of our recyclable waste comes from takeout containers , meaning those containers are covered in excess food waste. And while the container itself may be recyclable plastic or cardboard, if it's dirty with food waste, it won't get recycled in the facility. Instead, it'll be sorted out and sent to a landfill.

Before throwing dirty recyclables in the recycling bin, be sure to rinse out the food waste. And if you're not sure what to do with organic food waste, try composting it.

3. Do Your Research

When in doubt, look it up! We have guides on how to recycle even the most complicated items, including electronic waste , worn-out clothes , shredded paper , shoes , pizza boxes , pillows , and more. That way, you'll never be left wondering how to dispose of an item responsibly.

4. Avoid Single-Use Items

While recycling is beneficial to the environment, it's more eco-friendly to avoid single-use items altogether. Instead, use reusable water bottles , utensils, coffee cups , tote bags , and more.

When you swap single-use items for reusable ones, you also decrease the amount of waste you produce. And then you won't have to worry about how to correctly recycle those confusing items.

The Importance of Recycling

recycling

Recycling is a practice that turns waste materials into new materials or objects. It can also include the recovery of energy. The recyclability of a material depends on its ability to regain its original properties. In other words, if a plastic bottle can be recycled into a new product, it is reusable. It’s important to note that recycling is not just a good way to save the environment; it’s also a smart way to save money.

Recycling is important because it reduces pollution. It helps conserve natural resources like trees and oil and reduces the amount of waste in landfills. It also helps us conserve energy, which is crucial for our environment. By recycling, we can make more use of the resources that we have. That way, we can reduce our energy bills. Recycling also helps the environment by reducing pollution, which in turn helps keep our air and water clean.

Although recycling reduces the amount of waste in landfills, it is not a perfect solution. Recycling is just one of several options for disposing of waste. It works best when the economics are in our favor. However, when economics do not favor recycling, it’s inappropriate. In addition, it can cause additional costs because it requires consumers and businesses to take actions that they won’t otherwise do.

Recycling reduces pollution by diverting waste from landfills and creating new products. Recycling also conserves natural resources by avoiding the need to extract raw materials from the Earth. It helps preserve the natural habitats for future generations. By reusing materials, you can light a light bulb for four hours with a single glass bottle, which saves energy and money.

Recycling also creates jobs. It is estimated that the recycling industry creates more jobs in the US than the auto industry. This industry is composed of numerous processes that separate recyclable materials. The most common of these is recycling electronics. The recycling process involves breaking down old computers and other electronics and then transporting them to recycling facilities.

Recycling is an excellent way to reduce the amount of trash thrown out. Many communities and businesses to make it easy for people to recycle. For instance, many recycle bins are placed in public locations. Many businesses also provide bins for home and business owners to use. It is important to use these recycling services. The more you recycle, the better for the environment.

The recycling rate in countries like Switzerland is one of the highest in the world. Compared to the US, it is a lot better in Europe. Countries like Switzerland have strict recycling laws and charge residents for disposal of their trash. The country also has a ban on landfills. Several countries recycle over 50 percent of their waste. They have many other programs and policies to help their residents recycle.

Recycling also helps the environment by reducing the need to harvest raw materials. This means less damage to wild animals and less pollution. In other words, recycling is better than destroying the land for raw materials. Moreover, recycling prevents a large amount of energy from going to waste. The resources used to manufacture goods are also saved.

Recycling is the process of recovering materials from waste and reusing them. By doing so, the materials can be used to make new products. Typically, recycling centers collect recyclable materials through curbside pickup or by companies that pay consumers to take their recyclables to a recycling facility. The recycling process includes sorting, cleaning, and processing items to create new materials.

Recycling rates need to increase in the United States. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the country recycles about 32 percent of its municipal waste. However, glass and plastics recycling rates have remained stagnant and under 10 percent. This situation has a direct impact on the most marginalized communities. It’s not enough to recycle more, recycling programs must be more effective.

One of the biggest challenges in recycling is plastics. Consumer goods companies are reluctant to buy recycled plastic because it is often contaminated with other materials. They prefer virgin plastic, which is more pure. Greenpeace is filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. To solve the issue, recyclers and consumers can join a local recycling program.

The Importance of recycling Daniel Walsh Cas 100 A Penn State Hazleton

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zvRF8LYfMk

Introduction + Main Points Recycling is the Solution to Pollution • Americans are not fully aware of pollution • Recycling should be enforced more strictly • Criminals should have to clean up trash during their time in prison

America has to become more aware of pollution • Some cities like San Diego for example use direct mailers, TV ads, and interactive web sites, to increase public awareness. • Americans should understand that it is morally and ethically right to recycle. • It can improve our overall health. • It is a required by law in Philadelphia that every building recycles. • Source:http://www.keepphiladelphiabeautiful.org/schoolrecycling.html

Counter Arguments against pollution awareness • Some might argue that people should be allowed to manage their waste w/o interference of the law BUT… If humans produce trash they should agree that it is morally and LAWFULLY responsible to clean it up !

Recycling should be enforced more strictly • Stronger fines should be made for dumping and littering. • In some cities, like Philadelphia there is a minimum fine of $300 dollars for littering • The fine for dumping in Philadelphia is $50000 for first time offenders, double for second time offenders. Source: http://webapps.phila.gov/council/attachments/5339.pdf

Counter arguments against enforcing recycling • People are hard headed and complain that the fines are high enough already But… It really is a major problem and that if fines were raised most people would think twice about littering.

Criminals in jail have should have to clean up trash during time in prison • In rare occasions some criminals might be seen on the side of the road cleaning up trash, this should be put into practice more often. • Instead of a 6 month jail sentence Chris Brown opted to clean up trash and graffiti for his conviction of assault on his girlfriend. • This is a very constructive way of paying back society for committing their crimes. Source: http://www.mamaflosatx.com/2009/07/who-should-be-cleaning-up-this-mess.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/22/no-jail-chris-brown-strik_n_219212.html

Counter arguments of criminals cleaning up trash • A possible argument might be that criminals still have rights and should not have to pick up others trash But… If someone is in jail b/c of a crime they committed they should have to repay society by doing constructive things like recycling trash

Recycling Statistics • Since 1980, the generation of municipal solid waste has grown by 60%. • almost half of the paper used in the USA is now being recycled into new paper products. • The largest category of recycled paper goods was newspaper at 89%. • Source: http://www.greenhq.net/united-states-recycling-statistics.html

Conclusion - Why Recycling is Important • Recycling should be taken very seriously. • Its not hard to clean up trash and dispose of it after a person creates garbage. • Some ways to do this is to just hold on to your trash until you see a trash can, or keep a small bag in your car for trash. • People should also use recycling containers instead of trash containers for plastic and glass objects.

59 Recycling Facts: Learn The Importance Of Waste Management

Process Of Recycling

Recycling industrial waste, recycling plastic, sorting waste.

Over seven billion people live in the world, and each has its own waste to control.

On average, a person throws away around 4 lb (1.8 kg) of waste every day, and this data conjures up to 1.5 t (1.3 mt) of solid waste every year from a single person. Over seven billion people add to this waste, so we are going through so many environmental problems.

Many of us do not know, but 75% of this trash added every year consists of recyclable materials. This waste and materials can be reused to make new items, which is what recycling is.

The practice of recycling ensures that no items that can be used again go to waste. The use of new materials can be reduced substantially if recycled materials from solid waste can be used to make new products. The energy consumption will reduce quite a bit.

Recycling also ensures that the non-recycled trash does not reach landfills to cause more pollution in the world. Plastic bottles and plastic bags create a lot of pollution globally, so it is mandatory to practice recycling to save the planet from destruction. Switzerland leads the race for recycling rates, followed by Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway.

Here are a few items that can be recycled to keep in mind when you recycle trash; glass, plastic, paper, metal, batteries, textile, food waste, and electronic equipment.

All the different products that can be made from these materials like glass bottles, office paper, plastic bottles, and more need a lot of raw materials and some intense manufacturing that in turn pollute the environment.

For instance, if not recycled, a glass bottle will take 4000 years to decompose entirely. This can become even longer if the bottle is kept in a landfill. Glass is fully recyclable and can be recycled again and again without losing any purity and quality.

Recycled paper saves trees, water, oil, and electricity. A family typically uses paper worth seven trees in a year. Think how many trees you save if you reduce using a new sheet of paper every day.

A lot of food waste can be seen in the world. Food waste, solid waste like plastic, glass, aluminum, and more add to the woes of the environment.

We have to start with recycling and saving the planet. Most of the waste stream in the world is recyclable. Only 30% of the waste stream is recycled in America, while 75% is recyclable.

Learn more recycling facts here in the coming topics.

Recycling is a way of renewing an object that has already served its previous purpose. People can make a new product of recycled waste, and every time you recycle a product, you protect the environment a bit.

We use less water, cut fewer trees, use less energy, and protect the raw materials that are depleting at an alarming rate. Let us know some recycling facts and the process of how to do it.

Paper is one of the most important resources globally, and all parts of the world use it. However, paper waste can be harmful to the environment.

The paper is first taken to a recycling plant and then separated into different grades and types. Soapy water is used to wash the separated paper to remove inks, staples, plastic film, and glue.

A slurry is created by mixing the mixture with water and then recycled. Recycled paper is the next best thing and should be used worldwide.

Just recycling a ton of paper can eventually save 7000 gals (31822.6 l) of water, 17 trees, a lot of electricity, and 2 bbl (318 l) oil.

Just saving natural resources to produce a ton of paper can power a home for five long months.

Recycling plastic is a lot different and needed as plastic bottles and plastic bags have crowded the whole world with pollution.

When plastic is recycled, it is first sorted into different colors and types.

It is then filtered of all the contaminants and then turned into fibers by chopping and melting into pellets.

New products can be made by recycling plastic bags and plastic bottles.

Recycled plastic can be used to make new products, including construction materials, fleece fabrics, insulation, and molted furniture.

Metals like aluminum cans are first chopped up, then put through the heat to remove the paint coating, and then heated again to melt the substance.

The melted metal is then filtered and put into ingots. It is then rolled into a flat sheet.

The flat sheet can be used to make new materials. Metal recycling is one of the best cost-effective solutions for recycling.

Aluminum is almost recyclable an infinite number of times.

In just 60 days, aluminum can be thrown into a recycler, recycled, made into a new can, and bought back into your grocery shelf.

Glass recycling is also very effective as it is first collected, sorted by color, and then washed. Removing the impurities is important for the process. The processed glass is crushed and mixed with soda ash, sand, and limestone.

The mixture is then melted and molded into new glass products, which can be anything from a glass bottle to a glass jar.

It is also important to recycle electronic waste and clothes/fabric.

First, recycle, and you will reduce the pollution in the environment. Reuse the processed products to help further. In any industry in the world, waste is produced in a large amount.

Air pollution is quite common in industries, be it in manufacturing or medical.

An immense amount of toxic waste is released from these industries every day, which is deadly to nature.

Recycling helps reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and the use of landfills.

Using an industrial composting system is important instead of putting the waste out in the world.

Microorganisms are used to break down biodegradable organic waste.

Many countries even use the product of this process as an alternative fuel.

Many countries have made it compulsory for industries to implement composting in their industries.

Some of the waste materials from industries are melted down and made into new objects.

Plastic bottles are melted to make polyester used for clothing.

Oil filters, industrial transformers, and big containers are recycled by this method.

Harmful gases like carbon dioxide are released, and it is very important to recycle this industrial waste at the earliest.

Many countries have used some of the gases to make electricity and fuel.

Useful material can be extracted from industrial waste.

From broken thermometers, mercury can be extracted; and from paint and batteries, lead can be extracted.

There are many other ways that you can recycle waste, and all these steps are just a start.

It is important to improve recycling rates and educate people on all of the positive ways to save the environment.

New and useful products can be made by processing plastic and recycling.

When plastic recycling is done correctly, it can help to reduce the use of landfills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, stop plastic pollution, and save the world.

In modern times, plastic is the most popular and useful material, and you can see plastic being used for plastic bags and plastic bottles.

Plastic is excellent for recycling, and even mixed things like tubs, trays, and films can be recycled. It is both environmentally and economically valuable to recycle plastic.

Plastic bags and bottles, and all other items made of plastic, are recycled in a series of ways.

First, the plastic is sorted by the polymer type of the material, and then the plastic is shredded and washed.

The next step of recycling is to melt the plastic and turn it into pellets. The pellets are used to make new materials.

Reusing plastic again and again after recycling reduces the need to produce new plastic.

Doing this can help to conserve non-renewable fossil fuels.

Stopping the production of new plastic stops the consumption of energy and raw materials.

Not producing plastic also reduces the emission of harmful gases in the atmosphere.

It is very important to sort the waste first to process it further to remove impurities from the items.

To sort your trash, first, file everything separately and divide the things between recyclable ones and non-recyclable ones.

After you are done, pack your recyclable waste into a bag and take it to centers where you donate them.

There are also buy-back centers that take the recycled waste from you for a nominal price.

Alternatively, there are also places where recycled waste gets collected from your homes daily or weekly.

21.5 million t (19504471.9 mt) of food waste is seen throughout the world each year.

For all the food scraps, if we start composting all the food waste from each person in the world, its effect is unthinkable.

It will have the same impact as removing two million vehicles off the road.

Just by saving and recycling 10% of newspapers people buy, we will save 25 million trees in the world each year.

Just in the United States itself, if you gather all the plastic bottles thrown away by people, those bottles, if made into a queue, will encircle the Earth's circumference five times.

Aluminum is really harmful in terms of pollution, and recycling is very important.

Solid waste of aluminum stays on the surface for many years, and the recycling rates of this are also very slow all over the world.

But wouldn't you recycle aluminum if you knew that a can of aluminum, if recycled, will power a television for three hours?

For each ton of recycled glass, 694 lb (315 kg) of carbon dioxide is saved from being released into the atmosphere, saving the planet from air pollution in the process.

When you clean out your house, you may find some clothes that you don't wear and use anymore. Instead of throwing them out, give them to the needy or donate the clothes to places that desperately need them.

If you recycle clothes, less fabric, water, and fertilizers are needed to grow the cotton that is used to make these clothes.

These recycling facts will help you understand many things that would allow the environment to grow and sustain a lot better than it is today.

Q: How much waste ends up in landfills?

A: According to statistics, in the United States itself, 150 million t (136 million mt) of waste end up in landfills. Out of this, around 30 million t (27.2 million mt) are of food, and about 26 million t (23 million mt) are of plastic.

Q: How much plastic is thrown away every day?

A: 300 million t (272 million mt)of plastic are thrown out each year globally. Thirty-eight billion plastic water bottles are thrown each year in the landfills in the U.S.

Q: What will happen if we don't recycle?

A: Natural habitats are being destroyed every day because of not recycling products. If proper measures are not taken, it won't be that long before we lose all our resources soon.

Q: How much waste is actually recycled?

A: Around 32.1% of waste is recycled in the U.S as of 2018. With proper awareness, these numbers can quickly increase as the majority of the waste produced is recyclable.

Q: Is glass 100% recyclable?

A: Yes, glass is 100% recyclable and can be used an endless number of times.

Q: Can you recycle aluminum foil?

A: Yes, aluminum foil can be recycled, but to do that, the tin foil needs to be cleaned first. It can be made into any number of items.

Q: Which color is not common for sorting?

A: The color which is not common for sorting when recycling glass is blue.
