How to Write an Essay in 2 Hours: A Complete Guide

5 page essay in two hours

The essay writing process isn’t easy, more so if it has to be done fast. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Academic assignments often come with tight deadlines. In some cases, short deadlines are deliberate to push learners to find efficient strategies to express their ideas and research findings quickly and succinctly. That 7 pages critical analysis that you may be working on could be a test of your art of fast writing without compromising on quality.

Approaching an Essay with a Tight Deadline

Here’s how you can approach an essay with a tight deadline.

Analyze the assignment

Before you write, make sure you understand what is required. A common problem with students is not paying enough attention to the assignment. The work won’t be complete if you do not answer the professor’s question. Remember, you can always ask for clarification if the question is not clear enough. Keep all requirements in mind not to waste time.

Use professional services

Tight deadlines and overlapping assignments can really test your limits. But all is not lost. Urgent paper writing services like FastEssay can help you complete your “ write my essay in 2 hours ” request. Yes, you heard that right. Whether your paper is urgent or otherwise, they got you covered. This company offers specialized expertise in virtually all disciplines and all academic levels from high school to PhD. They have experienced writers who can produce high-quality essays and be your lifeline in urgent situations.

Plan out time

A good plan is the secret to managing time and writing an essay in 2 hours. You need to know how much time you have and exactly what you need to do. For example, you can approach a 6 pages paper as follows;

  • Crafting thesis statement – 15 minutes;
  • Creating an outline – 10 minutes;
  • Research – 30 minutes for every page of the paper approximately.
  • Writing – 30-40 minutes;
  • Editing – 20 minutes.
  • References – 10-15 minutes.

Create thesis statement

The thesis statement is your paper framework, so pay attention to it. It’s the main idea you will dwell on in your paper. Trust us when we say you’ll stay focused and write a paper in 2 hours if you narrow your thoughts down to one. Only after establishing the focus of your paper is when you can decide what to write and how to convince your readers of your position.

Start with a flat outline

Creating an outline gives your paper a general structure and a step forward in writing an essay fast. It will help you avoid blank page fear. When you know what to write about, it becomes easier to keep focus and not get distracted. The trick is to write the argument in the outline. So, if you have any idea for the argument, put a note in the outline as well.

Research efficiently

Conducting research with a limited time may seem difficult. We all know that by now. But don’t worry, you can manage that as well. Do not get distracted. Look for specific information since you already have the topic and thoughts around it. Remember that to write an essay fast, you must conduct research quickly. Worry not about researching extensively. You can always do more research later.

Start writing

Many writers struggle to start with the introduction part, but that’s normal. If that’s the case with you, start with the body. You can always write the introduction and conclusion afterward. Starting with the body is much easier after all; how could you introduce something you haven’t done? Let the flow guide you, and then you will edit later. Another trick here is not to do more than you have to. If it’s a 6 to 10-page paper, why go for 10 when time is a constraint? Keep in mind that it’s about quality, not quantity.

How Can I Write an Essay in 2 Hours?

The most student thing ever is doing an assignment at the last minute. Every college student knows there’s never enough time to start early or do something without a hustle. Writing a complex essay is time-consuming and might need a whole day. However, sometimes, you may need less than 2 hours to complete the assignment due to such issues as procrastination, a tight schedule, or an unexpected deadline. The reality of needing to produce a high-quality essay quickly can strike anyone at any time.

But how can you manage to do a college essay within 2 hours? Therefore, you must refine your time management and writing skills to be able to express your thoughts and ideas concisely and effectively under pressure. All in all, students need proper training and a solid strategy to be able to write an essay within a short turnaround time. Let’s explore ideal strategies and tips to complete essay assignments while racing against the clock.

7 Best Tips to Write an Essay in 2 Hours

What are some of the strategies we can employ to write urgent essays? Many students need such tips since we’ve all been there where we must submit a paper urgently. The pressure to quickly produce a comprehensive and coherent piece on a complex topic can overwhelm even the most diligent learners. Yet, poorly researched essays or hurried writing can fail to meet the required standard. The following tips can be the easiest way to draft a successful essay .

  • Identify your essay topic. Do not underestimate the essence of your essay topic. It is very crucial. Depending on a few parameters, essay questions can either be given or will be open for writers to choose. In many cases, the title is always given. Whether in general overview or a specific approach, you should always focus on the type of analysis to accord with the article. Besides, decide the subject of the essay, the best approach plan, and the objectives you wish to meet in under 2 hours.
  • If you need to research, remember that you’ll not have time to think about your entire piece. Straight-up search for more specific facts and points. Find the main concept that you will apply to your essay. Due to time constraints, go for the kill – main points.
  • Outline your topic ideas. Have an outline to visualize the final paper. It’s easy to crack this. Start by stipulating your topic, follow by respective ideas, and remember to leave a space for further expounding. Lastly, make more detailed explanations related to your main idea.
  • Design your thesis statement. A thesis statement tells the reader how you will interpret the significance of the subject matter under discussion. It’s a road map for the paper. So, ensure it conveys the purpose of your essay and emphasizes the topic. Please do not take more than 5 minutes on it. It should be straightforward.
  • Write the body first. Begin with the body paragraphs where you argue your main points. This approach allows you to get into the crux of your essay immediately. It ensures you don’t run out of time before making your key arguments.
  • Draft the introduction and conclusion. Once the body of your essay is in place, drafting the introduction and conclusion becomes much easier. This strategy ensures that your opening and closing sections accurately reflect the content and direction of your entire essay. Begin with an attention grabber, something like a quote or some statistical data relevant to the subject. In conclusion, restate the thesis statement and connect it with the evidence you provided in your body.
  • Proofread your essay (5-10 minutes). This last step is equally essential. The main focus is ensuring that sentence construction is perfect, grammar is correct, and no errors and spelling mistakes are included. Polish your English to make it outstanding. Pay attention to the thesis statement and the topic sentences. That’s it! Your essay is now ready.

20 Strategies to Write an Essay in 2 Hours

This article is your ultimate list of strategies to boost your essay writing speed. Only two hours left before the deadline? You can handle that anyway.

Ready? Steady. Go!

20 Strategies to Write an Essay Super Fast

Essay Writing in 2 Hours

1. Keep calm: You can do it!

Two hours seem too short, but they are enough to craft a standard college essay if you’ve prepared and organized everything beforehand. So, the most efficient strategy would be to relax and not panic:

Try a short meditation session before writing, consider the above infographic, and keep reading to see what you need.

2. Organize your workspace

A well-organized workplace allows a student to focus and complete assignments faster.

(Yeah, it doesn’t sound realistic, given that many learn their materials and prepare for exams wherever possible — in bed, on the way to college, you name it! And yet, there’s a science behind it.)

So, if you want to write an essay faster, do it in a precisely organized place. Let it be a corner of a room with proper lighting ( temperatures around 3500K-4000K stimulate the brain and influence productivity), a table, and a comfortable chair. Also, make it encouraging and inspiring:

  • Prepare all the tools you’ll need for writing
  • Place your favorite photos or quotes nearby
  • Put a plant on the table (more on that below)

When sitting in an organized workspace, your brain gets a signal saying: “ It’s time to work! ” When you’re in bed with your laptop or on a cozy sofa you usually use to rest or read a book, your brain doesn’t have such associations; it’s lazy and wants to procrastinate.

Remember that, and “cheat” your brain like a boss. Make it focus and work when it should be focused and productive.

3. Try writing in a new place

A change of scenery can be refreshing, boost ideas, and encourage productivity. New places inspire people and give energy, so why not try this trick when you have an essay to complete?

Let’s take a coffee shop as an example:

Working there makes people more creative and efficient. It’s because of The Coffee Shop Effect : the perfect dose of noise (it enhances cognitive flexibility and improves performance) + visibility (others see us working, which satisfies our subconscious need for approval, aka social instinct).

Other examples of alternative places where you can write:

  • Local libraries
  • Coworking spaces
  • Public parks
  • A friend’s house
  • Botanical gardens

4. Eliminate distractions

Distractions in Writing

It can be challenging to do, but please do your best to remove everything (and everyone, lol ) that can distract you from writing.

Turn off your smartphone and laptop notifications. Ensure that you walk your dog before you start working and tell your friends and family members that you’ll be busy for the next two hours so that they won’t disturb you.

Take some snacks to avoid feeling hungry and minimize the noise around you.

Speaking of noise:

While background music and voices frustrate some writers, killing their inspiration and productivity, others work better in noisy environments. Find a quiet place if you’re one of the former and can’t focus when in a room with others.

If the circumstances don’t allow that, noise-cancellation headphones will help.

5. Put on your headphones

First, they’ll muffle outside sounds so that nothing will distract you from essay writing.

Second, they will signal to your relatives or roommates that you’re busy, so they shouldn’t touch you. Let them know they can’t ask you questions (yes, even quick ones), clarify any routine details, give you any duties, etc. When you’re in headphones, it means you’re absent.

If you’re okay with background music when studying, put on some with your headphones. Choose compositions that boost creativity and help you focus.

Most experts agree that the best music for work and study is soothing, melodic, and without lyrics. (Hearing a song’s words may take a listener’s focus away from their task.) Instrumental or classical music, jazz, nature sounds, and movie soundtracks are the most favorable options.

There are tons of corresponding playlists on YouTube. Choose one that helps you set the right mood.

6. Take a cup of coffee/tea before writing

Are you a coffee addict? Great! Let’s use this habit for your benefit.

Do your best to take a cup of your favorite coffee-based drink between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m . It’s the best time to reap the most from it: Cortisol levels start to dip, and the effect of the caffeine will be at its maximum.

Coffee helps you stay alert, improves creativity and mood, and stimulates productivity.

Coffee for Writing

Oh, you don’t drink coffee, do you? Try green tea instead.

Its ingredients positively influence health, and two specific ones — L-theanine and caffeine — stimulate the brain and help you stay bright-eyed. According to research, green tea boosts cognitive functions like attention and reaction time.

(That’s what you’ll need to write an essay fast, huh?)

7. Have a cat or plant nearby

Your cat can help you write faster. Communicating with these pets boosts a person’s mood and reduces anxiety and feelings of panic (such as those you might have about missing a deadline, for example).

Also, your fluffy four-legged friend will encourage you to take a short break during those two hours of writing (which are critical and pur-r-perfect for productive work and creativity boosts, by the way.)

As for plants, it’s worth having at least one at your desk. They reduce stress, sharpen your attention, and increase productivity.

8. Research and outline beforehand

Essay writing isn’t only about putting words on paper. First, you need to choose a topic (if your teacher didn’t assign any), research to choose references, decide on the arguments and evidence you’ll use, and craft an essay plan to organize all that information.

It sounds impossible to do in two hours, right?

That’s why you must organize your time with all this pre-writing work in mind.

You know the deadline and have two hours to complete a paper. Do preliminary research and craft an initial outline for your essay beforehand. Thus, you’ll know what to include in each paragraph and write your essay draft super fast.

9. Prepare a reward for yourself

Do you know about dopamine?

It’s a neurotransmitter responsible for our brain’s reward and pleasure system. Besides reinforcing behaviors essential for survival, it also impacts our ability to concentrate.

What does that have to do with essay writing?

Once you complete a task, your brain will release dopamine, which creates a sense of reward and satisfaction.

Why not “cheat” your brain and prepare a reward beforehand? Understanding the reward is waiting for it after you finish an essay will help the brain focus and make a sustained effort toward achieving this goal.

In plain English:

Tell yourself that you’ll eat that yummy chocolate once your essay is ready. The anticipation of this reward will cause the release of dopamine, optimizing your mental energy and cognitive performance and thus motivating you to complete the task faster.

What can be your reward?

  • Eating your favorite food
  • Watching a movie
  • Hanging out with friends
  • A weekend vacation
  • Relaxing procedures (a SPA session, massage, etc.)
  • Anything you love and that inspires you

10. Cut the writing into time blocks

Set a deadline for completing each part of your essay. It will help you focus on one specific task at a time and will serve as a psychological trick to “calm down” your brain:

Now, it knows it has, say, 30 minutes to write a paragraph, seeing it as a more achievable goal. Remember the “bird by bird” principle by Anne Lamott ? Just do a task step by step, “forgetting” about how lengthy or complex it is.

For example:

You have two hours (120 minutes) to write an essay.

Leave 15-20 minutes for a break (yes, you’ll need it!) and cut the rest of the time into sections. Let’s say that you leave 20 minutes for an introductory paragraph and 20 for a conclusion. So, 60 minutes are left for the body of the essay.

Not that bad, huh?

A standard 5-paragraph essay has three body paragraphs, so you have 20 minutes for each. It’s possible to achieve, don’t you think?

11. Write the body of the essay first

Most authors admit:

The most challenging part of the writing process is crafting the first sentence. It’s the blank page syndrome when you stare at the screen and can’t find the words to start your draft. Here’s the trick to avoid that:

Write the body of your essay first to initiate the process, and you can complete the introductory paragraph and conclusion later.

The key is knowing your thesis statement in advance so that you understand how to organize the text’s claims, arguments, and evidence.

12. Use essay templates

Ready-made templates save a huge amount of time!

Craft and save the outline templates for various essay types: argumentative, narrative , compare and contrast , etc. Every time you get a corresponding task assigned, you’ll already know its structure, thus saving time on outlining. All you’ll need to do is fill in the gaps with the necessary components.

(This also works for reference lists, title pages, and essay formatting.)

13. Set a timer

Remember Tip #10? You set deadlines for each part of the essay.

Want this strategy to be even more applicable? Set a timer each time you start a new paragraph and write nonstop within that period. It will be your extra motivation to finish writing before the alarm rings.

Use a traditional table clock, a corresponding app, or your smartphone’s timer. In knowing you have limited time, you will subconsciously try to make it — and write faster as a result. 14. Take a 15-minute break to recharge Please don’t write for two hours in a row: You won’t be more productive but will get tired sooner and slow down the whole process. Taking a break to clear your head and recharge your inner “battery” for more efficient work is critical.

So, here’s the plan:

You write for 45 minutes and then have a 15-20-minute break to recharge.

What to do during a break?

  • Have a snack. (Important! Don’t do it while scrolling Instagram on your laptop. Give your eyes some rest too.)
  • Take a walk in a nearby park.
  • Play with your pet.
  • Do some exercises: squats, push-ups, you name it! (Mini elliptical trainers are a great option to try.)

15. Drink water while writing

Water for Writing

Good hydration is critical for clear thinking.

Have a glass of water at the table when you write — and drink it once in a while. You’ll help your brain cells maintain a hydro-balance and stay productive for a faster and better writing performance.

16. Use the same document for your notes and draft

Write the essay in the same document where you crafted the outline and made notes. That way, you will have all the information in front of you to help boost your thought flow:

You won’t be switching back and forth between documents (shifting your focus from writing to other activities).

17. Try speech-to-text programs

Google Docs, Apple Dictation, Amazon Transcribe … These are just a few tools that can turn your spoken words into written text.

Dictate your essay out loud, and the program will convert it into text. This way, you’ll save time and only have to check the draft for errors, logical flow, grammar mistakes, the presence of all necessary elements, etc.

18. Write first; edit afterward

The most common piece of writing advice that works:

Don’t edit on the go (as you write). It will slow you down, distracting your brain from working. Writing and editing are different tasks, so do your best to separate them.

Don’t stop to edit your sentence even if you see a mistake. This is challenging for perfectionists, but they should remember a core idea behind fast writing:

“The first draft of anything is s**t.” ( Ernest Hemingway )

Make it a habit to “forget” about grammar mistakes and stylistic imperfections while writing. You’ll revise and polish everything later.

19. Speed up proofreading and editing

You won’t submit your essay for review once you’ve finished the draft, right? Proofreading and editing come next, so you’ll need some tricks to do it fast.

Examples of such tricks include:

  • Reading your draft aloud. (You’ll “hear” the typos and mistakes.)
  • Printing it out. (You’ll notice the flaws more easily.)
  • Reading the draft backward. (Do it sentence by sentence, starting from the last one

(Also, you can use grammar and plagiarism checkers to make the process faster.)

Here’s your checklist for faster self-editing:

Essay Proofreading

20. Delegate

The most evident and easiest way to get an essay ready in two hours is to delegate it to a professional writer.

Please don’t hesitate to ask for help with researching or outlining, try an essay writing app, or let an expert write a draft for you if you see that you can’t handle everything alone as fast as you need to.

How long it Takes to Write an Essay (Word and Page Count)

How long to write an essay

Writing essays or assignments is a tricky undertaking for most students. Time is ever not enough when writing an essay. For some, it takes little time to complete certain pages, while others might find it harder to achieve the same pages unless they have more time. To craft classy and A+ grade essays, you need to understand how long it takes to write an essay.

This article comprehensively answers the main question of how long it actually takes to write a standard essay, research paper, or assignment, which is a common question among students from every academic level.

Whether you take less or more time to write an essay, as long as you submit your essay on time and score the best grade, that’s it! However, knowing how much time it takes helps you plan your schedule, especially if you have little time in your hands to complete essays and other school assignments.

So, how long does it take to write an essay? We share with you some critical insights below.

How long Does it take to write an essay?

Writing an essay is not like wearing a pair of socks where you just do it. Instead, the process requires adequate planning, the actual writing, and polishing what you have written.

In a nutshell, although estimating the most ideal time to complete an entire essay is impossible, we can infer or estimate it based on the optimal time it takes.

The total time it takes to write an essay, research paper, term paper, or complete an assignment varies depending on a myriad of factors such as required length, writing and research skills of the writer, and the technicality of the subject or topic. It is possible to write a simple 500 to 600- word essay or paper in 2 hours or less for an average writer. However, it will take you almost 5-6 hours if you are a slow or inexperienced writer.

If you are writing a 1500-word essay, you can take 4-5 hours or even a day, depending on how complex the content is and your writing skills.

We have seen writers devour 20-page research papers in a day and 10–15-page essays in less than 15 hours.

Beginning with a 40-page thesis or research paper, we will break down how long it ideally takes to complete an essay or research paper up to the smallest assignment assigned to students, usually two pages or 500 words.

As we advance, refer to our article : The ideal length of a comprehensive essay for the exact word count and the number of pages.

40-page Thesis or Research paper

For an experienced writer, writing 40 pages, including research work, will take 2.5 to 3 days or 50-72 hours. This is considering that they will take breaks between or attend to personal issues. However, if research is done and only typing remains, it can take 8-12 hours to complete.

You can complete writing 40 pages for a slow writer in 6-8 days. Some people take ten days or more, but the assumption is that they have little time to write the paper as they have other commitments.

A 40-page research paper is 11000 words, which can be achieved by writing 3600 or 12 pages daily. However, considering that sections such as introduction, discussion, and conclusion are easy to tackle, the saved time is pushed to the complex parts of the research paper.

Whatever you do, resist the temptation of using an online paraphrasing tool or writing a bot to achieve the word count quickly. A paper written after researching, reading, and critically reasoning sounds better than that spun by a bot.

To write such a paper within those three days, research well, take notes and organize your research. Then, you can use online bibliography organizers and download the peer-reviewed journals into a folder for easy access.

Rationally, professors assign more time to complete long papers. Avoid the last-minute rush because you procrastinated. Begin early enough so that each part is not rushed and you can cover all the required details.

30-page Research Paper/Thesis

If you are assigned a 30-page thesis or research paper, you can still complete it in under 2.5 days. Assuming you are writing 15 pages daily, it will only take two days. However, if you are a slow writer, you must take up to 5 days to complete a 30-page research paper.

As a student with much time planning, writing, and polishing, a 30-page paper should be in less than a week. If your deadline is two weeks, ensure you are done in the first week so you have enough time to rest, research further, and refine ideas in your paper.

Again, you must plan your research, writing, and revision processes. Ensure you take notes, have an organized list of bibliographies, and have downloaded the online peer-reviewed articles.

20-Page Research Paper

This is about 5000-5500 double-spaced paper.

A fast, accurate, and experienced professional writer can take 2 days to complete a 20-page paper. However, a slow writer will take up to 4 to 5 days to complete 20-pages. We have experimented with this with our writers internally and conducted online surveys with clients and students.

We can say that writing and research skills, typing speed, and organization define how fast you nail that 20-page research paper. If you are writing by hand, which is unlikely in this era, you will take more than 2 weeks.

The ultimate plan is to spend 30% of the time researching, 50% writing, and 20% editing and polishing. Once the writing process is organized, completing a 20-page research paper will be smooth, easy, and fun.

12-page Essay, Term paper, or Research Paper

We have seen writers complete 12-page papers in under 12 hours. All we can say is that skills, the complexity of the subject, typing speed, and experience matter.

Ideally, writing 12 pages needs between 12-20 hours. An advanced writer will complete a 12-page essay in 8-10 hours, while a slow writer will take as much as over 12 hours but not more than 20 hours.

The trick is planning, researching, and organising your research thoroughly, then writing the paper. You better use mind maps or concept maps to organize your thoughts around the paper. It makes it easy to own and achieve the vision of the paper. Also, limit distractions and focus on achieving the most in your paper.

A 10-page essay or Research paper

So, you have 2500 to 2750 words or 3000 words to write an essay, research paper, or term paper, and you wonder how long that will take. Well, writing a 10-page paper should take you 5-10 hours.

If you are a slow writer, it will take more than 12 hours, but not a day. This is the typical length of most assignments given in class as part of coursework. However, it is an ideal length for you to critically and comprehensively explore a given topic. This counts for 2500-3000 double-spaced paper or five pages of single-spaced paper.

To complete a 10-page paper faster, you need to begin by reading the prompt. It would help if you chose a good topic and researched to familiarize yourself with it. Next, write a clear thesis statement and refine it as you organize your research. Finally, write the paper and then edit it later.

Our professional paper writing service has writers who can complete your 10-page paper within a day or in 12 hours. Our experts draw from their experience, pro writing skills, research experience, and ability to organize thoughts faster. They have been doing this for the longest time and can complete your paper fast.

5-page Double-spaced Essay

A five-page essay is the most common assignment in tourism, management, leadership, anthropology, nursing, sociology, education, and many other disciplines.

The duration to complete depends on how complex the topic is, the depth of research required, and the actual deadline of the paper. It is about 1500 to 1650 words in length.

In a 5-page double-spaced essay, the introduction and conclusion comprise 20%, which leaves you with 80% of the word count for the body paragraphs. An expert writer can do the same in 3-4 hours if it is not complex. However, slow writers will take up to a day or two to complete the same length.

A standard 5-page paper can be written in 4-5 hours.

1000-word Essay

This is a 4-page, double-spaced paper. Depending on the extent of research required, special instructions, and skills of the writer, you can take 2-4 hours.

An essay pro will take 2 hours to complete a standard 1000-word essay , while a slow writer will need up to 7 hours. This is because they are each writing a 1000-word essay graded an A+ at the end of the day.

The trick is to familiarize yourself with the topic, write an outline, organize your research, and write the essay, then edit it after taking a short break.

500-word Essay

Writing a standard 500-word essay, which is two pages, takes 2 hours or less. Therefore, a standard writer will take 2-3 hours while an expert writer will take one and a half hours tops.

Once you get such an essay, write it faster, spend a few minutes understanding the gist of the essay, familiarizing yourself with the topics, and planning the paper. Often, it needs you to strikingly hook your readers and conclude the essay in a bang.

This is one of those essays you write as you cite and read internally as you listen to ensure that everything is well written. Again, you will need to have fast typing skills to achieve the page count in an hour or less.

Factors that Determine the time you take to write an essay

As we mentioned, a hoard of elements defines the time you will take to write an essay. Here are some of the vital factors:

  • The technicality of the content –the time you take to complete an essay depends on how complex the content is. For instance, if you are writing an argumentative or informative essay, you’d probably take less time than writing a technical essay on biology, nursing, physics, or geography.
  • Special guidelines from class– if there are special requirements, such as using the class text, you’d take less time writing your essay. However, suppose the special requirements need you to focus on an area or structure specifically. In that case, you will probably take more time to write the essay.
  • The extent of Research– an essay requiring in-depth research, reading, and critical analysis will take more time than a descriptive or explorative essay. The complexity of the subject defines the extent of the research. If your essay is on science and other technical subjects, it requires more research and time.
  • The time you have –the deadline of your essay defines the time you have to complete your essay. However, your schedule also determines how long you must complete an essay. Generally, the more time you have, the more time it takes to write an essay. To avoid writer’s block, consider finishing your essay on time within the standard time it takes to complete an essay. It makes you professional and timely and leaves you with more time to polish it.
  • Experience with writing– experienced writers will take less time writing an essay than average or novice writers. For instance, our fast essay writers take an hour or less to write a one-page essay of 275-300 words. Equally, they can complete a 10-page essay in under 12 hours.
  • Writing Skills –your writing skills also determine how quickly you write an essay. If you are skilled enough to plan, research, and write, you will complete your essay in the shortest record time.
  • Research Skills –the research strategies you use to get familiar with the topic, develop arguments, and offer examples. Also, define how long you’ll take to complete an essay or research paper. Besides, if you are organized enough, you will spend less time researching and writing an essay.
  • Front and Back matter requirements– if your essay requires a special cover page and references page or appendices, it might take slightly more time than an essay with a standard cover and title pages.

How the writing process affects the time you take to write an essay

Do you know that the writing process and how you apply it defines the time it takes to complete an essay? Well, it does. Before we tell you how-to, let’s re-cap the essay writing process.

The essay writing process entails three main stages:

  • Preparation/pre-writing : Here, you decide on the topic, do in-depth research to familiarize yourself with the topic, choose a tentative thesis statement, and create an essay outline.
  • Writing : Here is where the rubber meets the road. You develop your arguments in the body of your essay, provide evidence in the body paragraphs, and write the conclusion and introduction of your paper with the hook and thesis statement being prominent features.
  • Revision/post-writing : You revise for content, grammar, spelling, formatting, and organization.

This simple three-step writing process applies whether you are writing a case study, a term paper, a research paper, or any form of assignment.

Note that these steps become seamless as you practice and write more papers. You do not have to beat yourself up as they are not systematic. You can choose to begin with any step. However, ensure that the paper you write at the end will be worth the best grades.

Time-wise, the pre-writing or preparation stage should take 20% of your total time. Writing should always take 50% of the total time you have. Finally, you should spend 30% of the time in the post-writing stage.

So, if you have 24 hours to complete a 5-page essay, spend 5 hours brainstorming, outlining, and researching. You should then spend 12 hours writing the paper, inclusive of breaks. Note that you will write as you refer from sources, compare ideas, give examples, and offer evidence while citing the respective sources. The process is tedious but should be meticulous as it either makes or breaks your grade. Finally, you will spend the remaining 7 hours polishing the essay.

As you can see, this gives you ample time to run personal errands, attend to other personal issues, and complete your assignments on time.

Therefore, to write an essay fast, accurately, and efficiently, you need to plan your time against the structure of your essay.

How to improve your essay writing speed

In our article, we have used terms such as slow and novice writers to refer to average writers. It is not bad to be one. However, everyone aspires to be the best version of themselves. Writing challenging essays sucks, and the sooner you do away with them, the sooner your school life becomes less stressful. Here are some seven best strategies to improve your essay, assignment, coursework, or research paper writing speed.

1. Read and understand the instructions

A common mistake students make is casually reading the instructions and assuming they can head straight into writing a paper. If you want to write an essay fast , concentrate on what your professor wants before deciding how you meet these requirements. It cuts the time you would have wasted when you discover that you would have done it the other way around while in the middle of your writing.

2. Plan your essay/research paper

To write any paper faster, you have to plan adequately. Planning helps allocate time and spend time on the things that matter. Failing to plan is equal to failure. Therefore, write a great outline for your paper. Know what falls where. For instance, write a tentative thesis statement , plan what essay hook to use in your intro, and decide what the main message that supports the thesis each of the body paragraphs will harbor.

3. Conduct research

After planning your research, you need to conduct thorough research. The research aims to familiarize with the topic, collect views and perspectives on the topic, and refine the thesis statement. While researching, ensure that you take notes.

It would be prudent if you also take note of what other scholars have discussed your topic. Refine the scope of your paper and the focus of each paragraph. While researching, you can refine the outline to ensure that everything flows. Find evidence, examples, and quotes from books and scholarly articles to defend your thesis.

4. Organize your research

When you research and leave it at that – it is a recipe for failure. Instead, organize your research effectively. Here is the trick: download the downloadable scholarly articles and save them into a folder on your computer. You can also bookmark books. As you do so, use the digital bibliography or citation tools to organize the sources alphabetically as would appear on your reference page.

5. Find a suitable place to write it

Do not just write your paper anywhere. After all, you cannot do homework in the club, café, train or bus. Instead, it would help if you found a distraction-free place to do your homework . A place without distractions lets you sink in the mood of your assignment.

If your roommates are noisy, try the library or find an excellent place to complete your essay without distractions. Avoid noisy and busy places as they will steal away your concentration.

If you work well with music, find some slow music that does not distract your concentration. As well, have some water to replenish yourself as you write. Finally, have a spot with good, reliable, and safe internet to research online, write, and countercheck facts without reading hardcover books.

6. Break the paper into sections

When writing, a paper with some structure or skeleton will be completed much faster than that without broken parts.

Breaking your essay into sections helps you know what areas to focus on the most. Besides, you can jump sections and complete the easier ones without disturbing the flow of your essay or research paper.

Writing the paper as a block denies you the chance to be creative. Ideas tend to get to us when we are busy elsewhere. When you have a section, you can quickly incorporate the idea and return to the previous section, and the essay will still flow, regardless.

After finishing a section, take a break to return fresh to complete the next one until your essay or research paper is completed.

7. Write fast, then polish later

Instead of being a perfectionist as you write, focus on just writing. Leave the editing and polishing for later.

To write an essay or research paper faster, you need to write, flow your ideas, and maintain the gist of the essay. Then, you can correct the typos, errors, and omissions later. Doing so saves you the stress of rushing through polishing, which is integral for the best grades.

Parting Shot!

The truth on the ground is that writing an essay, research paper, term paper, or assignment sucks. To write an essay or any assignment, the writing process entails preparation, writing, and revision. Following these three steps ensures you get a good grade on your assignment.

Time is money, and is better if you learn how to manage it. To write a great essay, you must be diligent, patient and committed. Typically, you will develop ideas about a topic from the introduction to the conclusion. In between, you have the body paragraphs that take time and skill. Therefore, it is critical to understand the ideal time it takes to write a comprehensive essay.

How to Finish an Essay Last Minute and Do it without Losing Quality

Adela B.

Table of contents

It’s the start of the week; you head to college and realize everybody is talking about the research paper submission. “Isn’t that due next week?” you ask, only to be told it was due the previous day. You hurriedly check your calendar and are in for a rude shock – you missed the deadline.

Just then, your alarm rings, and you wake up sweating. Thankfully, it was a dream!

However, the fact remains that you have a submission in four days, and you are nowhere close to starting it.

Given the busy college schedules, academic pressures, tight deadlines, and in many cases, even juggling a part-time job, it’s no surprise that college students are struggling with stress and anxiety.

Need a College Essay Urgently? Order Now and Get 15% Off

According to a 2018 American College Health Association report , over 60% of college students said they had experienced “overwhelming anxiety” in the past year. Looming essay deadlines have a significant role in contributing to this stress.

Smart Last-Minute Essay Writing Tips You Can Use

Doing an essay last minute is enough to give you the chills. Regardless of how much you plan to start early, you constantly find yourself racing against time.

However, doing an essay last minute does not mean you compromise on the quality. Here are 14 smart ways to write your last-minute essay and still do a good job.

#1. Stop panicking

At this point, you are filled with anger, self-loathe, and guilt. You keep telling yourself that you should have started earlier and hate yourself for putting off the college essay till the very end. While you are bound to have such negative thoughts, you must do away with them because they are futile and will only obstruct your concentration.

The first step to approaching a last-minute essay is to stop panicking and actively start working toward your essay. It would be best if you created a positive mindset and workspace to do full justice to it.

#2. Stay away from distractions

When you begin work on your essay, you receive a notification on your phone, and the next thing you know, you have spent the next few hours doing everything else but working on your college essay.

It’s easy to get distracted and away with time, but you must remind yourself that you cannot afford to do so. Doing an essay last minute requires your undivided attention, considering you have limited time.

So, whether it’s Instagram, Netflix, or even your friends, stay away from distractions and focus on completing the essay.

Here’s an interesting TEDx Talk by Chris Bailey on focusing better.

#3. Commit to a topic

Writing a last-minute essay makes you more likely to doubt yourself and be in two minds. After reading the instructions carefully and researching, choose an essay topic and stick to it. By second-guessing yourself at every point, you will only be wasting time.

#4. Work on the outline

You may wonder if you can afford to work on an essay outline when you run out of time. The answer is yes; structuring your essay is always worth it.

Having an effective essay outline saves you time, ensures you have covered the key points, and maintains a logical flow throughout. For instance, if you are writing a research paper, the outline needs to include the following sections:

  • Title – the shortest page; this needs to mention what your paper is about succinctly;
  • Abstract – a summary of your paper in 150 – 200 words;
  • Introduction – include the essay hook, explanation of the topic, and the thesis statement;
  • Methodology – describe the methods used to conduct the research;
  • Results – state the outcome and substantiate it with statistical data, tables, and graphs;
  • Conclusion – reinstate the thesis statement while summarizing the findings of the research;
  • References and Citations – cite all the references in this section.

Once you have established these, note down the points you plan to include under each section before you begin writing.

#5. Set mini-deadlines

In an ideal world, one would finish the essay in a single sitting, but we all know that’s a little too difficult to achieve. There does come the point when we reach a stage of exhaustion, and pushing ourselves to work beyond that means doom.

To avoid burnout, break your writing into parts and give yourself mini-deadlines. For example, aim to finish writing three sections in four hours and then allow yourself to relax. Tackling the paper in parts keeps your mind fresh, and you can think more clearly in the process.

#6. Set a timer

Since you already created an outline, set a timer for writing every essay section and try to finish before the timer goes off.

For instance, you can set the time at 15 minutes for writing the introduction and try to complete it before the end of the 15 minutes. Once you finish the introduction section, take five minutes to review it and see if it makes sense without bothering to correct the grammar.

Set the timer again for the first body paragraph, then the second, until you have covered all the sections on your outline.

#7. Increase your typing speed

It won't be easy to finish your essay fast if you’re a slow writer. To finish writing within the shortest time possible, you need to increase your typing speed.

How do you increase your typing speed? Sit upright and maintain a good posture while typing (ensure you are not looking at your screen at an angle). Let your elbows rest on the table and slightly elevate your wrists.

As you type, focus on the screen instead of your hands. This will help you start typing faster.

#8. Use writing and editing tools to save time

Want to save time? Several writing and editing tools can automate some processes to save time and help you finish your work faster. Some of the best online tools you can use when writing last-minute college essays include:

a) Grammarly

Grammarly is one of the best editing tools for editing your essay. The software uses artificial intelligence to identify errors related to spelling, punctuation, sentence structures, and even plagiarism.

After you finish writing, pass your essay through Grammarly to help you identify and correct grammatical errors. It will save you the time you’d spend revising your essay to identify and correct such mistakes manually.

b) Evernote

To finish your essay faster, you’ll need to organize your notes to promote the flow of thought and help you write more quickly.

Evernote is one online writing tool that will help you organize your notes effectively, so you don’t need to keep everything in your head when researching. You can take clips, and screenshots of relevant web pages, reference documents, images, and graphics for later use when writing.

This way, you won’t need to surf the internet all over again when you start writing. You can use the software anywhere, at any time, without any charges.

c) Hemingway Editor

Another editing tool to help you edit faster when writing last-minute college essays is the Hemingway Editor. You can decide to type on the app or copy-paste your essay onto the app after you finish writing.

Instead of spending time reading your essay and trying to identify errors alone, Hemingway will help you highlight lengthy and complex sentences and suggest ways to improve them.

It will also identify adverbs and weakening phrases to eliminate from your essay to make it more meaningful. This online editor will improve readability and make your essay easy to read and understand.

d) Dynalist

Nothing makes writing easier and faster than outlining. They help you organize your ideas ahead of time so that when you start writing, you won’t get stuck in the middle. An essay outline will also help you stay on topic and answer all the essay prompts effectively.

The good news is that you can use online tools to write outlines fast to save time, and one of them is Dynalist. You can use the free version of this online tool to capture your points into flawless outlines and flesh them out later when you start writing.

These tools will help you finish writing fast since you won’t spend much time editing manually after writing.

#9. Turn off spelling and grammar checks

While writing tools help you edit your work, the best way to write faster is to turn off the spelling and grammar checkers until you finish writing your first draft.

Since you want to write fast to finish your last-minute essay, underlining errors as you write may be more of a distraction. The checkers sometimes underline correct words, and you may spend time thinking about how to replace the word or correct sentences instead of focusing on writing.

Therefore, consider turning them off until your first draft is ready; you can turn them on and start editing your essay.

#10. Write the introduction and conclusion at the end

Introductions and conclusions tend to require more time when writing an essay. This is because they are supposed to be compelling, thoughtful, and engaging. You, therefore, need a little brainstorming to write these parts.

To save yourself some time, skip the introduction and go straight to explaining your points in the body paragraph.

You’ll spend less time on this section since you have already researched and identified your sources. After completing the essay body, you’ll have a clearer picture of your essay, and the introduction will take you less time to write.

The conclusion will also take less time to write since it will summarize the points you already discussed in the essay.

#11. Cite references alongside

Citing references is an integral part of essay writing. Citing sources and providing evidence to support your claims shows you pay attention to detail and adds to the credibility of your essay.

However, given a situation where you are writing a last-minute essay, there are chances of making more errors or skipping this step altogether. To avoid this mistake, citing references and to write the essay is a good idea.

What does this mean? Every time you include a quote, fact, or piece of information that needs referencing, ensure you make a note of it immediately, so you don’t waste any time hunting for it later.

Alternatively, you can also use a citation generator.

Citing all your reference articles can be time-consuming and deter you from completing your essay fast .

You can use several citation generators to cite articles accurately to have your essay references right. You must copy and paste the generated citation to your list of references at the end of the essay.

Some of the best citation generators you can use include MyBib, CiteThisForMe, CiteFast, and Bibme. The tools help you format your references in APA, MLA, or Chicago style, depending on your essay instructions, all for free.

#12. Proofread

Proofreading the college essay must not be overlooked regardless of how much time you have in hand. This is even more crucial while writing an article in a hurry because you are more likely to make mistakes.

After all the effort put in, the last thing you would want is to submit an essay with grammatical mistakes and formatting errors.

So, put aside quality time to proofread your essay and edit it accordingly. It is also a good idea to share a copy with your parents or friends and get a second set of eyes on your work.

#13. Take short breaks

Even though it’s the last minute and you want to finish writing your college essay fast, short breaks can still come in handy.

Sitting on the table for too long can tire your mind and body, making you a less effective writer. When your mind is clogged up, it hinders the flow of ideas, and you may be unable to knit your ideas into meaningful paragraphs.

Therefore, consider taking short breaks of 5 to 10 minutes, after which you can return to your table and write with a fresh mind.

#14. Get professional help

Doing a last-minute essay can be overwhelming. Sometimes you don’t know where to begin, and your anxiety gets the better of you.

The Time it takes to Write a 5-Page Paper or Essay: In Hours

  • by Joseph Kenas
  • January 11, 2024

The-Time-it-Takes-to-Write-a-5-Page-Paper-or-Essay

The question of how long does it take to write a 5-page essay is a question that has every student has to ask. When you think about it, it isn’t that hard to write a 5-page essay.

However, when you add in the other assignments and tests the student has, it becomes a lot harder. We can help you estimate how long it would actually take to write a 5-page essay.

What is a 5-Page Paper?

A five-page paper is a common assignment in college or university. It is given for short papers to help students write better papers and it’s about 500-1000 words. The five-page paper is also known as a five-page essay or a five-page assignment and students are expected to write five pages including the title page and reference page.

Although the number of pages in a paper depends on the assignment, some professors will assign a page limit, in this case, 5 pages.

Regardless, it is important to remember that the page count is the total number of pages within the paper, including the abstract, introduction, discussion, conclusion, references, and appendix.

How Long Does it take to Write a 5-Page Paper?

The time taken to write a 5-page paper varies between 8 and 48 hours on average. While a good writer can take 8 hours, other writers may take a day or two. This is because, the time taken depends on factors like the complexity of the subject the topic of research, research method, writing and typing skills, and your professor’s specification.

writing an essay

It is important to note that the longer it takes to write a certain paper, the more comprehensive the work.

This is mainly due to the research involved.

With that said, different levels of study require different depths of research.

This is to say, the length of a 5-page paper may also depend on the level of study you’re at.

Basically, there are a lot of factors that can play a role in how long it takes to actually write the paper. An undergraduate student will often write a 5-page paper in a day or two.

A 1st-year undergraduate will take a module that requires about 5-6 hours to produce a 5-page paper. A 1st-year undergraduate could complete a 5-page paper in a day, but a 3rd year could take a week. A Ph.D. student could take up to a month to produce a 5-page paper.

How to Write a Good 5-Page Essay

We wrote a full guide on how to write a good essay for you to learn in-depth details of the steps involved. But here is a good summary. Writing a 5-page essay involves the following simples steps.

1. Do Comprehensive Research

doing research

Before you start writing your essay, you should do extensive research on the topic.

It is better to have a lot of information than to have the essay filled with mistakes.

Doing research on your essay topic is an important part of writing an essay because, the more information you have, the greater your chances of success.

Some research sources include interviews, books, journals, newspapers, and the internet.

2. Write an Outline

Before you start to write, it is important to make notes of the various parts of your essay. This will help you bring order to your ideas and make writing the essay more logical and therefore easier.

The general outline of a 5-page essay includes an introduction, at least 3 paragraph body, and a conclusion.

3. Write an Introduction to Your Essay

An introduction is the first and the most important paragraph in an essay. It sets out what you are going to say, to whom and why.

What you write here needs to hook the reader’s interest, and make him or her want to keep reading. An excellent introduction should include all the following:

  • An attention grabber
  • An opening sentence that gives the reader a clue as to what is to come.
  • A summary of the main points to follow.
  • A statement of the topic.
  • A transition sentence to guide the reader from your introduction to your body paragraphs.

4. Write the Main Body

The main body of the essay is where you should place all of your strongest evidence. It contains the essential information about your subject and it’s your most effective way of showing your reader why your topic is important.

Essay body

This is where you’ll make the case for your topic and try to convince people that your position is worth considering.

You could have the best thesis statement in the world, but if the evidence isn’t good, your essay will fall flat.

The main body of your essay is also where you should answer the questions your thesis statement poses.

This is where you should be focused on proving your thesis.

You should have at least three paragraphs in your 5-page essay’s main body, and you should make sure each paragraph has a topic sentence and at least two examples.

Such an essay is long. If you are writing a short essay, look at our guide on how to write a short essay for more insight on the same.

5. Write the Conclusion

The conclusion of an essay is the place where the writer’s voice becomes most apparent. It is the place where you wrap up everything that has been said, and where you make your personal opinion clear.

A good conclusion shows how the main body is related to your thesis and draws a final judgment based on the evidence.

The conclusion is the very last impression you leave with your reader and it can be a very powerful and persuasive tool if used correctly.

6. Proofreading and Editing

One of the main reasons students don’t get good grades on their essays is because they don’t proofread them enough.

The only way you are going to be able to improve your grades is by proofreading your work properly. Most students think that they have written the perfect essay when in fact it is filled with errors.

Proofreading is not something you can do in a few minutes. You have to take your time and read your work over and over again to eliminate all grammatical and spelling errors.

Tips on How to Format a Good 5-Page Essay

The format of a paper is a style of writing that a student uses when writing a research paper. Formatting is not hard to do and anyone can learn how to do it with some practice.

The main purpose of formatting a research paper is to make the paper easier to read. Also, a paper that is formatted correctly has a professional look. Some of the basic formats for most writing styles include

  • Font type; Time New Roman
  • Font size; 12
  • Double line spaces
  • An inch margin on all sides
  • Half inch paragraph indentations

How to Write a Two Page Essay Quickly

Last Updated: March 28, 2023 Fact Checked

She earned her PhD in English from the University of Georgia in 2015. There are 9 references cited in this article, which can be found at the bottom of the page. Writing a two page essay can be a daunting task. After all, writing takes specific skills and a lot of practice. If you are well-organized and have a specific plan, it can be done both successfully and quickly. College students, high school students, and people in most professions have to write from time to time (or every day). For many people, writing can be stressful. It helps to have a system in place to help make the process as efficient (and painless) as possible.

Getting Organized

Step 1 Make sure that you are ready to write.

  • If your instructor has given you a clear prompt, decide now how you will approach the question. For example, if the given assignment is "Write an essay on the women's movement. Was it successful?", you will need to decide which side you are going to take. Once you narrow your focus, your essay will be much easier to organize.
  • If you have a much broader assignment, it will be up to you to focus your topic. For example, if your assignment is "Write about something that interests you", you will not want to make the topic of your essay "Sports," especially for a short two-page essay. Choose a very specific topic, such as "Tailgating in the American South."

Step 3 Know your subject.

  • It's unlikely that you will need further research for a two-page paper, but if you aren't sure about the requirements, ask your teacher.

Step 4 Organize your materials.

Drafting Your Essay

Step 1 Brainstorm your thesis...

  • For example, if you're supposed to write a two-page essay about something that interests you, think about who your audience is (and how much explaining you'll have to do), what is the most relevant information, and why your topic is interesting to you.
  • Branching is another technique you can use while creating your thesis. Try to imagine your topic as a tree. Write your basic idea in the middle of your paper, and then "branch" out from there, adding ideas and thoughts to your central topic.
  • Another approach to try is brainstorming. To do this, write down anything and everything you know or need to know about your topic. Don't edit yourself, just get some thoughts down on paper. Once you can see your ideas, they will start to take shape. It's often helpful to do this before you try to write a formal outline, as you'll have a better idea of what you want to cover.

Step 2 Write your thesis statement.

  • For example, if you were writing an essay about college sports, a poor thesis would be, "College sports are very controversial in many ways." This is too vague, and it does not clearly take a position to argue. It will leave your reader wondering what argument you are making in your essay.
  • An example of a strong thesis for the same topic might be, "College athletes should be paid a salary for playing their sport." This is more successful because it indicates the topic you will address. It's also limited enough that you can adequately discuss it in a two-page paper.

Step 3 Put your thoughts on paper.

  • You don't necessarily need to do a formal outline to start with. Brainstorming or making a list-type outline, where you list out ideas that are related to your topic without putting them in a specific order, can help you know what you want to write about.
  • Once you have listed the ideas that support your thesis, you'll have a better sense of how to organize them.

Step 4 Include specific examples.

  • Note that not all teachers prefer or even accept this type of thesis, which is often referred to as a "multi-prong" or "three-prong" thesis. However, this type of thesis is often appropriate for very short writing assignments such as a two-page essay. If you're not sure what your teacher's preferences are, ask before you begin writing.
  • It's helpful to list specific examples in your outline, so that you know what evidence you have for each point. This can also be helpful to show you whether you have gaps or imbalances in your approach. For example, do you have just one example for one point, but three for another point? It would be better to use roughly the same number of examples per point, or even see if the less-supported point could be incorporated elsewhere.

Step 5 Cite your sources in your outline.

  • One type of citation is known as parenthetical documentation. For this method, you provide information about the source within the text of your essay. An example of this would be, "Brown argues that Einstein's theory of relativity is the most important scholarly achievement of the twentieth century (292)." The name Brown refers to the author of the book in this example, and 292 is the page number where this information is found. There are different ways to cite various sources, so make sure you know how to properly credit all of the sources you plan to use. [1] X Research source
  • Sometimes you may be asked to use footnotes or endnotes. While less common in brief essays, some teachers and bosses prefer them. Footnotes and endnotes include more thorough information about the source used. Often, when they replace parenthetical documentation, a Works Cited page is not required. [2] X Research source

Writing Your Essay

Step 1 Write your body paragraphs.

  • Make sure that each body paragraph has a topic sentence . This sentence makes it clear to your reader what each paragraph is about. For example, if you were writing an essay about the labor force during World War II, you might say, "Women were an important part of the workforce in World War II because they learned new jobs that were previously reserved only for men."
  • Include specific supporting examples in each body paragraph. For instance, if you were writing an essay about the labor force during World War II, you might say, "Many women became welders during World War II, which illustrates that gender roles in the workplace were changing."

Step 2 Write your introduction...

  • Start off with a broad contextual statement, but don't make it so broad as to have no relevance. Statements that begin like "Throughout history" or "In modern society" are "fluff" statements and don't provide any real context for your argument.
  • A good way to think of your introduction is as an inverted pyramid. Start with the broad statement that sets the scene, and then narrow down until you reach your thesis.
  • Include your thesis statement at the end of the conclusion.
  • Spend some time on your first sentence. It should be interesting and grab the attention of your reader. Try starting with a fascinating example or an exciting quotation.
  • Use your conclusion to tie together the strands of your argument. In some cases, such as persuasive essays , it's appropriate to include a call to action. You can also return to an anecdote or theme you brought up in the introduction to give your paper great symmetry.

Step 3 Use clear and concise language.

  • Watch out for the passive voice. Beginning writers often use the passive voice because it's wordier, which may be mistaken for "fancier." Here's an example of the passive voice: "It is believed by many that today's growing social violence is being caused by video games." Be verbs are often signs of passive voice. Reword it actively this way: "Many people blame video games for today's growing social violence." This is a clear grammatical order: People (subject) blame (verb) video games (direct object).
  • Avoid wordy constructions such as "It is believed that" or "This is suggestive of that." You can communicate these ideas more clearly and concisely: "People believe that" or "This suggests that."

Step 4 Use appropriate style and tone.

  • Some short essays may be more appropriate in the first-person, using "I." If you've been assigned to write a personal or persuasive essay, the first-person voice is often more personal and effective than using third-person.
  • Aim for parallel structure in sentences. Often, sentences end up sounding clunky if you ignore parallel structure. For example: "Paying college athletes is more important than to give them scholarships." Convert the infinitive "to give" to the gerund form "giving" for parallelism: "Paying college athletes is more important than giving them scholarships."

Step 5 Use transitions.

  • Here are some examples of transition words: similarly, in comparison, as a result, otherwise. During the editing process, you can try using several variations to see which best fits your style of writing. [8] X Research source

Editing Your Essay

Step 1 Walk away.

  • Be aware that the "grammar check" in word processors is often incorrect about issues, and may even suggest changes that make your writing incorrect. Don't rely only on technology.

Step 3 Read out loud.

  • There are several methods for creating a title. One idea is to begin your title with a question, such as "How..." or "Why...". Another method is to choose a specific example that occurs within your paper and use that as a starting point for your title. [10] X Research source

Step 7 Give your paper one final review.

Write 5 Page Essay In 2 Hours

by unoassignment ·

This article is aimed at students who need effective and time-saving tips to complete a 5-page paper writing an essay faster. A five-page essay will not be your best work, but if you follow this guide, it can be a passable paper. If you follow these steps, you will write well, but not on the way to an A + grade.

case study

Writing in one night a 10-20-page research paper is not easy, and there are bound to be mistakes and typos. For this reason, you may need to write an entire research paper within a short time. Whether you hold yourself accountable or hesitate, if you have to write a major piece of research in just one night, something can get out of hand.

We must admit that the quality of your essay will suffer if you only have an hour to complete it. When students are asked to write an essay of five paragraphs in less than an hour, they understand that the essay must be written in a few hours per day. They think that writing short essays takes up very little time, and it is a challenge to write a short essay in such a short time.

It is not possible to determine exactly how long it takes to write any paper of any type, whether 5 pages, 6 pages, or 1 page. The complexity of the subject and the research needed are the most important factors that largely determine how much time it takes to write a 5-page essay or research paper in a certain number of pages. There are a number of factors that determine how much time it takes to write or research an essay of this length, including, as mentioned above, the research required, the complexity of a topic, and the skills and experience of the authors, all of which can make you decide your topic, build a detailed plan and work several hours a day, you can learn how great writers deal with a 5-page essay.

I think you have given solid advice on how to do a good job in a reasonable time. I have been a writing teacher for some time and I know that this approach does not work for those who have difficulty with the basics. Writing work is not like solving a mathematical problem or reading a chapter from a book.

When I went to college, I developed a system to crank out papers in record time. I started writing papers two or three days before the due date and writing most of them in one day. I am glad that I did not have to write more essays than I would have done if I had been at university or law school.

This system for creating papers in record time allowed me to spend more time doing things I enjoyed, such as writing this blog or a long walk in the woods. Today I will report on how this system can get you to write essays faster without compromising the quality of your writing.

Writing 5 pages takes 1 hour for the average typist on a keyboard and 2.1 hours for handwriting. If you are a slow or hesitant writer, one hour per page is the maximum I would suggest.

do my assignment

In all likelihood, you can write a decent 10-12 page paper in five hours. Spend half an hour researching your subject, have an hour to explain what you have learned about paper format, and use the last half hour to edit and create a bibliography.

Your thesis forms the framework for all your work, and a good thesis gives the rest of your essay a positive academic outlook. Based on a correct thesis, you can also write an introductory paragraph for your work. Introduce your subject and try to attract the attention of your teacher and other readers with this work.

Think of a few arguments that you can protect in your dissertation. Once your arguments are ready, you can start researching to support them. As with any thesis, you need to find supporting sources, but if you have something handy, that’s fine, given the time constraints.

In this case, I did not skip the steps to write a five-paragraph essay. Take the points from the first article, the others from the second, and the others from the third. The introduction and conclusion should be in a short paragraph in the body.

The actual writing process is somewhat different, but this is a general overview of how to write a 20-page essay in a short text. After you have written, edited, and rewritten the introduction, you must move on to the next piece, in this case, the first paragraph.

A 10-page essay is a regular task that students receive for their coursework. It seems to be a good length for many topics that professors want to write and research about.

The time it takes to write a 10-page essay depends on how long it takes you to go through the steps in writing an essay. For me, I type 35 words per minute, so it would take me 14.3 hours to type an essay of 3,000 words. Most students ask me how long it takes me to write five-page essays.

If you follow these guidelines, you will know how to write a 15-page paper without compromising its quality. As a rule, we insist that students revise their papers and give tips for writing a 5-paragraph essay. In the first two weeks, the authors focus on the title page, abstract, introduction, methods, and parts of the material.

It is not possible to approximate the time required for a five-page paper with double spacing. Various factors determine how much time you will spend writing a five-page essay. These factors include the number of papers you have read, the complexity of your subject matter, and the depth of your research.

Steps To Write A Great 5-Page Essay

Table of Contents

Want to craft a great 5-Page essay ? There are steps to write great long form essay with efficiency.

Writing long essay is definitely not an easy task. Many hours are needed to think, research, outline, write, and edit.

Students are often asked to write an effective 5-page essay about a particular topic. The truth is, you may run into difficulty on writing one if your experience level is not too high.

Writing an essay like a pro is a skill that takes time to gain, and requires lots of practice.

Check these seven steps to make your next 5-page essay a great one

person writing on brown wooden table near white ceramic mug

There are 7 steps you can follow to write a great 5-page essay.

1. Start with a Planning Stage

This is where you map out your details and consider the content you want to write about. It’s paramount to have an idea of where you’re headed and what you’re going to say before you begin writing.

2. Make your research

This part is where you gather your evidence and data. You might want to search for statistics or compare two or more things. Before you write, have all your ideas and information in a neat format.

3. Pick an essay thesis

In your very first paragraph, you may want to introduce your thesis. The thesis is what the writer wants the reader to understand at the onset. It’s not just a title or a word, it’s a whole idea that you want the reader to grasp in the very first paragraph. It doesn’t have to be a huge one either.

It can be as small as a statement like, “Many people think that dogs are a better family pet than cats.”

Thesis is what you’re trying to prove and get across. In this case, “Dogs are better than cats because dogs are loyal, loving, and obedient while cats are independent, selfish, and rude.”

4. Create an essay outline

This will help you avoid many pitfalls when writing. An outline helps you to stay organized and on track as you write. It makes it easier to keep your thought process clear and concise.

5. Write your essay

You will spend most of your time at this stage of the writing process. This should be a fun experience, you should try and have more fun than stress about this part. Try to not think so much about what you are writing and why you’re writing it, just do it.

At all times, stay vigilant and vigilant, if you feel like you are getting stuck, take a break and then continue writing.

Your goal when writing essays is to answer your questions in a well-written manner. Your goal is not to impress people, and so you should not write your essay just to write it. Don’t get ahead of yourself.

When you write about the world, or yourself, you should write about what you know best. For example, if you want to write about your own feelings, you should write about your own experiences.

This should help you to connect back to your own experiences and emotions. This is one of the best ways to write your essay. If you get stuck at this point, take a break. Then you can come back to the essay with fresh inspiration.

You should use short paragraphs, and you should use plenty of writing down notes. This will help you get clear in your head. Your aim in writing an essay should be to get to the end with clarity. This means that you should be able to get your thoughts together and make sure that they are organized and connected.

6. Edit and proofread your essay

It is important to proofread your essay. You should do this before you write your final copy. This will enable you to see any spelling errors, grammar errors, and organizational errors.

When you proofread, you should take all of your notes that you have made and incorporate them into the finished copy. You should never stop editing until you are completely satisfied with your piece.

7. Formatting your essay

This is another important step to write your essay. You should be sure to format your text because it is a way of making sure that your content is easy to read. You should use proper headings, indent, and bullet points.

This should be the final step in the writing process before submitting your essay.

The five-paragraph essay has been a staple in the American public school system for a long time. Due to its archaic style, teachers and students find it rather tedious to write and take.

Novice high school students may have difficulty writing, as it is hard to write a logical and informative paper when your experience is poor.

The automatic flow of the paragraph is most times the source of frustrations for both the writer and their audience. The difficult part about writing a five-paragraph essay is that there is not much variety or variety of themes or topics.

As a result of its broad, overarching nature, it encourages overly general thesis statements that lead to poorer writing quality.

The Introduction

This paragraph should have the purpose of the essay. It should introduce the issue that is the central focus of the argument. Make it clear to the reader as to why you are writing the essay. Give your readers a glimpse into what they can expect to find in the essay. Next, make it clear to the reader that you are going to solve the issue that you are writing about.

The body provides the hook to the essay, making it possible for the reader to connect it to the introduction. In the five-paragraph essay, the hook typically ends at the end of the second paragraph. The body should have a thesis statement and three points.

A thesis statement is like a question. Make it clear to the reader and then put the question out there. Now, present three points that answer the question. They should be linked together by transitions.

A transition is like a bridge. A reader could walk away from the essay and not understand what you are saying. Transitions make your points clear, and helps the reader to connect them.

The Conclusion

The conclusion is usually short. It should reiterate the main point and provide a call to action. It is usually 2-3 sentences. The conclusion tells the reader the thesis was proven, and gives a new perspective on the topic. In an argumentative essay, the conclusion should also explain in detail why the thesis statement was proven.

We have found that five-paragraph essays are difficult to write. Writing them typically takes hours on the first paper, or a lot of energy with no result.

You can avoid this by following these eleven steps, which will guide you in how to write a five-page essay. Draft a topic, argument, relevant examples, impact, thesis, body, conclusion, outline, conclusion and criticism.

Have you ever sat down to write a 5-to-7-page essay, only to have your 10-minute deadline pass, with only one sentence typed? It’s probably happened to you. Students who are working on essays are often inundated with information, and they struggle to keep up.

Students are often faced with the challenge of differentiating useful to their essay topic and most critical to their argument. They’re also faced with the challenge of deciding which examples may be beneficial and which will be irrelevant.

With a good amount of planning, however, essays can be approached in an organized manner. In this chapter, you’ll get the basic tools to help you organize and plan your first five paragraphs.

How can you write a 5-page essay in no time? We have compiled a checklist of the essentials you need to complete in order to write a 5-page paper. This checklist is very helpful in understanding what things you need to achieve when you first start working on your essay.

The first five-paragraph formula is the best-known and most commonly used structure. It’s an easily memorized formula for constructing a logical, cohesive first five paragraphs quickly.

Think of the five-paragraph structure as a series of questions you must answer in the following order:

1. Introduction: starts the flow of the story. The first paragraph of your introduction (the first question) should do one of two things:

• Introduce the topic with a hook i.e. The one single thing that makes your story interesting.

• Provide the reader with a reason to care.

2. Development and Support: are the meat of the story. The first three paragraphs of your story should ask, What’s in it for me and/or What’s in it for us.

3. Conclusion: A final note that ties up the story. The next, or last paragraph (the conclusion), can be a summary of all the hooks you’ve used in the story. It can be a series of follow-up questions, or it can just be a simple conclusion.

The first five-paragraph formula is a handy tool for structuring and drafting your story from beginning to end.

Writing well-researched and informative texts is not always a walk in the park. If you are struggling to write a 5-page essay or any other research paper for that matter, don’t be disheartened.

Whether you are writing a 5-page research paper, a 5-page speech or a 5-page book report, it’s all about your personal touch.

This way you can enjoy the process and come up with a better grade without having to worry about grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Hacks How to Write a 10 and 20 page Paper in One Night

Hacks-How-to-Write-a-10-and-20-page-Paper-in-One-Night

It’s the night before a big paper is due. For whatever reason, you find yourself needing to write an entire research paper in a very short amount of time. While procrastination isn’t ideal, extenuating circumstances may have caused your timeline to get pushed back. So, here you are, looking for how to write a 10-page paper or how to write a 20-page paper in one night.

It goes without saying the best way to write a paper is to give yourself enough time to outline, draft, and edit. Yet, it’s still possible to write in less time. Take heed of these best tips and tricks to organize your thoughts and get your thesis on paper as fast as possible.

How to prepare before you write, 1. create a schedule to maximize your time.

You’ve likely already spent time panicking. Once you calm yourself of the anxiety of having to finish a 10- or 20-page paper in one night, organize your plan of attack. First, you should designate an area free of distractions so that you can focus. Aside from a few breaks and snacks, it’s best to set up a comfortable place to write. Give yourself some time to outline and find/cite research . Once you know how you’re going to approach the subject, then you can start drafting.

2. Determine your Main Topic

If you’ve been given a prompt, then your topic is clear. However, sometimes you have the freedom to choose what your research will be about. In this case, it’s smartest to choose a topic that you are already knowledgeable about. That way, you will save yourself key time that would have otherwise been spent on research. If you don’t feel strongly about any particular topic, then at least try to pick one that has a lot of information available.

3. Perform Research

Start looking up sources to cite that support your thesis, or main argument. As you research, be sure to take notes. One of the best ways to do this is to use a word processor like Google Docs or Microsoft Word to copy and paste URLs. For each source, it would be best to copy/paste one main sentence that covers its point.

Then, you can write brief notes in your own words that summarize what you have read from that source. While you are performing research, you can start to put together an outline, or the flow of how you will present your ideas broken down by topic and argument.

4. Outline 3-5 subtopics

Once you’ve chosen your topic, then try to pull 3-5 subtopics from it. Each sub-topic should be juicy enough to be able to write a lot about it. The subtopics are your supporting paragraphs which fill the body of the research paper. They should basically be mini essays within themselves.

Writing in One Night

Writing a long research paper in one night isn’t ideal, but it is doable. Some of the best ways to get it done is to follow these 5 tips:

1. Plan and Outline

Take those few extra moments to plan and outline your paper. While it may feel like a waste of valuable time, it is going to help you stay on track. When you have an outline and you get to the middle of your paper, you won’t feel lost as to how to continue. An outline will be useful to you like a map is on a journey.

2. Use Specialized Search

Take advantage of search tools that are designed for scholars. For example, a few of these include: Google Scholar and Elsevier .

3. Leverage Tools

There are citation management tools that will help you find sources for your topic. Mendeley is just one of them. You can type parts of your paper into the tool and find quotes of value. Be sure to cite everything you use to avoid plagiarism .

4. Proofread and Edit

Once you complete writing 10 to 20 pages, you may feel like throwing in the towel and going to sleep for a few hours. However, it is crucial to power through and proofread your paper. If you have anyone available who can read your paper over, that would be best because it’s hard to catch mistakes when you’ve been looking at the same thing for so long. But, if no one is available, try to read your paper back to yourself out loud. This way, you may be able to catch typos better.

5. Check Formatting

Every research paper needs to adhere to a particular format guideline. Whether it’s APA, MLA, or another standard formatting practice, be sure to double check that your layout adheres to the guidelines.

When to start writing.

If you have yet to find yourself trying to write a paper at the last minute and all the notes above are scaring you out of procrastination, then that’s a good start! Perhaps you were recently assigned a research paper. In this case, the best way to tackle the project is to do the following:

Start Early

Get started right away. Even if it means just performing early research or writing an outline, starting early is going to save you from having to write a paper in one night down the line. When you start early, you benefit greatly because you can: leverage peers for ideas, take the necessary time to edit and rewrite, and you lower your risk of picking a topic with too little information and having to change topics at the last minute.

Writing in Stages

Starting early also affords you the opportunity to write in stages. You can think of writing as a cycle when you write in stages. First, you can create your outline. Then, you can write the introduction, edit it, and rewrite anything you may need to before moving on to the next piece (or the first body paragraph, in this case).

Use a Timeline

Create a timeline for your writing in stages. If you start four weeks in advance, for example, you have time to do all of the following:

  • Fully understand the assignment and ask any questions
  • Start to read and document sources
  • Create notecards and cite books for sources
  • Write a summary of what you’ve discovered so far that will be used in some of your paper
  • Create 3-5 subtopics and outline points you want to explore
  • Look for more sources on your subtopics
  • Start writing summaries on each subtopic
  • Write some analysis of your findings
  • Start to piece together the research paper based on your notes and outline (almost like completing a puzzle)
  • Edit and proofread / ask for feedback

The Writing Process

The actual writing process is a little different for everyone, but this is a general overview for how to write a 20-page paper, or one that is shorter.

  • Start with a Thesis: Your thesis is one sentence that clearly and concisely explains what you are going to prove with research.
  • Include a Menu Sentence: At the end of your introduction, you will briefly outline your subtopics in what is often referred to as a “menu sentence.” This allows the reader to understand what they can expect to learn about as they continue to read your paper.
  • Create a Detailed Introduction: Your introduction should be detailed enough so that someone with little to no knowledge about your subject matter can understand what the paper is about.
  • Keep References: Be sure to write your references as you go along so that you basically can create your bibliography in the process of writing. Again, this is where a tool like Mendeley may be useful.
  • Write First: Write first and edit later. You want to get all your ideas down on the page before you start judging or editing the writing.
  • Save Often: Create the draft on a cloud platform that is automatically saved (i.e. Google Docs in case your computer crashes) or email the work to yourself as you go.

Sources to Consider Using

When writing your research paper and finding sources, it’s best to use a mix of sources. This may include:

  • Internet: The Internet is filled with limitless possibilities. When you use the Internet, it’s best to find credible and trustworthy sources to avoid using fake news as a source. That’s why tools like Google Scholar can be so helpful.
  • Textbooks: It’s more likely than not that you’ll be able to use your class textbook as a source for the research you are conducting.
  • Books: Additionally, other books outside of those you read within your class will prove useful in any research paper.

Final Steps: Editing and Formatting

Once you’ve written all your ideas on the page, it’s time to edit. It cannot be stressed enough that editing is pivotal before submission. This is especially true if you’ve been writing under immense pressure.

Writing a 10- or 20-page research paper in one night is not easy, so there are bound to be mistakes and typos. The best way to catch these mistakes is to follow these tips:

  • Take a break before you edit so you can come back to the page with somewhat fresh eyes and a clearer head
  • Read it out loud to edit and catch mistakes because sometimes your brain will override typos or missing words to make sense of what it is reading
  • If possible, ask someone else to look it over
  • Consider using footnotes or block quotes
  • Format according to how your university asks – MLA or APA, etc.

The Bottom Line

Life throws curveballs your way without warning. Whether you are holding yourself accountable for procrastinating or something out of your control came up, you may find yourself needing to write a big research paper in one night. It’s not the best-case scenario, but with the right tools and tricks up your sleeve, you can surely get it done!

High school, college, and university writing assignments frequently consist of five-page essays. It aids in the development of several abilities necessary for academic success, including creative and analytical thinking. In order to compose essays rapidly, college students need to be able to write at a rate of 60 to 70 words per minute. The solution, however, differs. However, you need to pay attention to elements that are important. factors include the difficulty of the subject, the research techniques, the structure, and the writing prowess.. Amass all the knowledge you can about the topic. Study a variety of sources to comprehend the topic of your essay and gather evidence to support your thesis. You can also look at official records and course materials from a recognised university in addition to digital resources. When you do research on your subject, you come up with original ideas that improve the readability and value of your essay. An outline serves as a structure that defines your essay. It aids in essay organisation and allows you to check the coherence of your arguments. A excellent outline provides specific information for each heading and subtitle so that you may concentrate on the main idea and stay on topic. Mention all of the important passages and perceptive points in your outline. Remember that a five-page essay should have three sections: an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. Your introduction should begin with a “hook” that seizes the reader’s interest and presents the main topic. You could, for instance, begin your article with pertinent statistics.

To improve the tone of your writing, include a strong thesis statement. Be succinct and to the point. The length of your introduction part as a whole shouldn’t exceed half a standard page. Keep the main body a little more in-depth because you need to cover five pages. It needs to be at least four pages long. This section should be broken up into paragraphs that discuss both your general and unique perspectives on the essay’s subject. You can create these paragraphs with the aid of your outline headings. Aim for five to eight sentences per paragraph. Pick the strongest justifications to back up your claims, and make sure to give each concept and viewpoint a paragraph. You can write material that is easy to grasp with its assistance. The average length of a document of 5 pages is seen in operating manuals, academic essays, and longer blog articles. The average single-spaced page has 500 words.

In addition, you can recommend books or articles for additional reading. This concludes your five-page essay and should take up the second part of the fifth page. You can improve your essay’s clarity and precision by rewriting it. The best method to expedite this process is to read aloud to yourself while making modifications. 6 dead in Sydney shopping mall stabbing attack. Here's the latest

Emergency services are seen outside the scene of a stabbing in Sydney, on Saturday, April 13.

Six people are dead  and several others injured after a man went on a stabbing rampage in a shopping mall in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday afternoon local time, one of the country’s worst mass killings in recent years. The suspect was  shot dead .

Eyewitnesses described  “pandemonium”  as they fled from the attack, with many  forced to hide in shops . Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the attack was “beyond words and understanding,” but amid the “shocking violence,” there were glimmers of heroism.

Here’s the latest if you are just joining us:

Six dead: New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb said  four women and a man died  at the shopping mall, while a fifth woman later died at the hospital. Webb added that  eight additional people  are being treated for injuries at hospitals in Sydney.

Baby among those injured: A  nine-month-old baby is confirmed  to be among the injured and has been in surgery, Webb said. Australian media outlets have reported that the baby’s mother had died, but Webb could not confirm the reports.

Suspect shot: A police inspector shot the attacker dead on the scene. Police believe the suspect was a 40-year-old man who acted alone, but could not provide further identification details. Early indications suggest the attack was  not terror-related .

"Hero" police officer: The police officer who shot the suspect is being hailed as a “hero,” with  Albanese saying , “There is no doubt that she saved lives through her action.” The officer was nearby when the violence unfolded and shot the attacker when he raised his knife at her, police said.

People react outside Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center on Saturday.

Witnesses describe scene: Eyewitnesses described panic and “pandemonium” as fleeing shoppers fell over each other and hid in shops. One woman, Crystal Wang,  told CNN  she hid in a clothing store for over an hour with other shoppers. Another man told Australia’s state broadcaster ABC that the attacker was stabbing people “indiscriminately.”

Rare attack: The attack has shocked Australia, a country where  mass casualty events are rare . The deadliest in its history was an April 1996 mass shooting in the town of Port Arthur, Tasmania, that killed 35 people and became known as the Port Arthur massacre. More recently, at least four people were killed and one injured in a mass shooting in the northern city of Darwin in 2019.

"He sends the assurance of his spiritual closeness to all affected by this senseless tragedy, especially those who are now mourning the loss of a loved one," the statement read. "He likewise offers his prayers for the dead, injured, as well as the first responders, and invokes upon the nation the divine blessings of consolation and strength."

Britain's King Charles III, who is head of state in Australia, said he and his wife Queen Camilla are "utterly shocked and horrified" by the shopping mall stabbing in Sydney that left six dead.

"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those who have been so brutally killed during such a senseless attack," a statement from Buckingham Palace said.

"While details of these shocking circumstances are still emerging, our thoughts are also with those who were involved in the response, and we give thanks for the bravery of the first responders and emergency services."

9-month-old baby among victims receiving treatment in hospital

From CNN's Chris Liakos and Sophie Tanno

A nine-month-old baby is confirmed to be among eight victims who have been admitted to hospital following the mass stabbing attack at Sydney's Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall.

New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb on Saturday confirmed that eight people are currently being treated for different injuries in hospitals around Sydney, including the infant, who has been in surgery.

Webb said "the last update I had was that it (the baby) had been in surgery and it's too early to say really. But it's awful."

She could not confirm Australian media reports that the baby's mother had died.

"I've heard that same rumour but I can't confirm that," she said.

Early indications say attack was not terror related, police say

From CNN's Chris Liakos

Police and ambulances are seen outside the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall after a stabbing in Sydney on April 13.

New South Wales police commissioner Karen Webb said on Saturday that early indications suggest the Sydney mall stabbing attack is not terror related but cautioned that the investigation remains ongoing.

Webb told reporters that current elements do not point to a terror motive, adding however that the investigation will be ongoing "for many many days" and that it is "too early to say" what was behind the attack.

According to Webb, police believe that the suspect is a 40-year-old man but as background checks remain ongoing, she could not provide further identification details.

Webb said she was "confident" that there is no ongoing risk and that "we are dealing with one person who is now deceased."

The suspect was shot dead at the scene by a lone officer, police earlier said.

"Do not go down there": Witnesses describe scenes of pandemonium in Sydney shopping mall

From CNN"s Sophie Tanno

Witnesses inside the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall when the attack took place have described scenes of chaos.

CNN’s Australian affiliate, 9 News Sydney, spoke to an eyewitness who said people were running through the shopping center and falling over each other, describing the situation as “pandemonium.”

Two brothers who were there told 9 News they saw a baby and mother stabbed and tried to help.

“The baby got stabbed and the mum got stabbed," one of the brothers said. “We were holding the baby and trying to compress the baby. Same with the mother, trying to compress the blood from stopping.”

One man described seeing a man in a green shirt stabbing others "indiscriminately."

"[We just heard] screaming, screaming and it didn't seem that long before we heard 'boom boom boom' of the gunshot and we thought, 'We hope it's the police,'" the witness told Australia's state broadcaster ABC. "[A person] is dying 10 metres away … I grabbed towels and there were three people dying around me. "It was just carnage."

Another man who did not give his name told ABC that the attacker would have continued his deadly rampage if the police officer had not intervened.

"If she did not shoot him, he would have kept going, he was on the rampage," he said.

Woman hid at back of clothes shop for over an hour during attack

From CNN's Sophie Tanno

One eyewitness who was inside Westfield Bondi Junction shopping mall when the attack unfolded described hiding in the back of a shop.

Crystal Wang explained how, after arriving at Westfield at around 3.20pm – just as the attack began – she walked into a clothes store where "the girls at the shop shut the door behind me and turned off lights."

She continued: "I was really confused, and they told me someone is stabbing people with a knife in the mall. I was hiding at the back of the shop, saw some people fleeing, and then heard [a] few gun shots.”

At first, Crystal thought there had been a power cut, before she realized the severity of the situation she had found herself in.

"A siren went on and not long after, I heard gun shots and started to panic, I was worried the attacker also had a gun," she said. "That's when the shop assistants asked everyone to hide in their storage room."

She added that management announcements probably made the situation worse.

“They were saying 'all the customers please evacuate immediately.' "We were obviously locked inside, just really confused if we should get out of the shop or stay in. "The lady who's making the announcement is obviously panicking as well, which just made us more anxious. She was even swearing at the end of her announcements."

Crystal and other shoppers stayed in hiding for an hour and half, until they were able to leave.
