Television programmes on girl child: An analysis of Telugu news channels

Profile image of John Babu K

2013, International Journal of Communication and Social Research

Irrespective of the tough legislations and laws, denigration of girl child even violence against girl child are growing in exponential manner in India. Entertainment and Education or Edutainment is a particularly useful strategy that entails the process of purposely designing and implementing a media message. To both entertain and educate, in order to increase audience members, television can provide knowledge about such an issue, create favorable attitudes, shift social norms, and change overt behavior. In this context, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) instituted the Awards for Gender Sensitive Programmes in Telugu Television in 2010 to promote and encourage discourse on girl-child issues such as early marriage, female foeticide and infanticide, etc. The present study has used the secondary data of content analysis of the television programs by Center for Media Studies (CMS) entrusted for close, critical and fair monitoring, recording the prime time programs between 6:30 pm and 10:30 pm of all the 19 Telugu channels in focus for the UNICEF Awards. There were eight categories identified for TV programming on girl child issues. The paper showcases the sincere efforts of TV channels by creating various programmes in different formats during the 100-day campaign and concludes with suggestions.

Gender equality forms a crucial aspect in developing a sustainable world. It is also a prime goal under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) developed by the United Nations Development Programme. The pivotal role played by media in promoting gender equality that eventually leads to the empowerment of women and girls alongside economic growth and development across the world cannot be ignored. Gender stereotyping can be defined as preconceived ideas whereby men and women are arbitrarily assigned characteristics and roles determined and limited by their gender. Stereotypes about any specific gender result from deeply ingrained attitudes, norms and prejudices against that specific gender. The role played by women and men in media are heavily influenced by existing social and cultural norms, including gender stereotypes. For example, women working as journalists or newsreaders tend to be thin and sexualised. Commercials for domestic products like detergents, floor cleaners and others often portray women wearing Indian ethnic salwar suit or sari, holding the product and telling the viewers how the product with its striking features has helped her in her household work. Sports media also contributes to the construction of masculinity since professional sports as a genre is dominated by men ranging from athletes and coaches to the commentators and reporters. This study is based on mixed methods approach starting with quantitative data collection using a survey of questions to capture how gender representation across television is perceived by the audience and then it is followed by qualitative analysis of a selection of soap operas, advertisements and news for a more in depth understanding of gender stereotyping in Indian television content.

Kids' television channels in India air a mix of foreign and domestic programming. Comparisons between the two types of programming have been made on a variety of issues. A less talked about aspect though, is the differences or similarities in how both types of productions represent gender. This study aims to identify whether both genders are presented equally in domestic and foreign productions that airs in India. A content analysis of evening prime time programming on various kids' channels showed that the average ratio of male to female characters in an individual programme was 3:1. Males also outnumbered females in the programming of the majority of the countries. The gender ratio of almost all countries' productions (including India) did not reflect the gender ratio of their own population as well as that of India's census population. All three countries (USA, India and Japan) with the highest number of programmes in this sample had more titles with the names of male characters than females. Among the character roles, the role of the protagonist's ally/friend/co-worker was the most common role which all countries allotted to both genders. In terms of gender representation, American productions were the most similar to Indian productions.

Empowering the girl child for a better tomorrow

girl child education essay in telugu

With a skewed gender ratio of 943 females per 1000 males (Census of India 2011), India is far from being called a developed country. While in many countries, a girl or boy child won’t negatively impact the parents, the birth of a girl child in India still remains a hiccup to many parents.

From the time she is born, the parents are ‘burdened’ until the point she is ‘married off’ to a ‘good family’. But in that process, they often forget that each of these girls has their own identity and are potential changemakers of tomorrow.

That being said, it would be a major improvement if we could’ve at least ensured that the “4.6 crore (45.8 million) females ‘missing’ in Indian demography in the year 2020” (UNFPA) could’ve seen the light of day.

Why is Girl Child Education Sacrificed?

girl child education essay in telugu

When a girl is born, there are a series of other ‘problems’ that weigh down the Indian parent. UNICEF says that about 1 in 10 girls under the age of 20 have been forced to engage in sex or perform other sexual acts. This pushes parents to keep their girl children at home and compromise on their education.

Once they start menstruating, other health concerns set in. One in three schools around the world does not have basic sanitation, putting millions of children’s health at risk ( WaterAid Report, 2018 ), girls facing the brunt of it. In addition, almost 23 million girls in India drop out of school annually, because of a lack of menstrual hygiene management facilities ( Dasra , ‘Spot On’, 2014).

The COVID-19 pandemic has not only increased poverty but also put about 247 million children out of schools ( UNICEF 2020 ). The result of that is losing a safe space in school and seeing an increase in child labour. In fact, over 100 million girls are at risk of child marriage due to COVID-19 ( UNICEF 2020 ).

Among these crimes, one of the crucial ones, that is yet to be eliminated despite being illegal, is dowry. In fact, about 7000 dowry deaths were reported in the year 2020 ( Statista ).

girl child education essay in telugu

Families that reel in poverty and are unable to educate their daughters are faced with the brunt of dowry demands by people who use the lack of education to torment these daughters.

One such person who faced the struggles of such a situation was Devendra Kumar, who as a boy was abandoned by his parents when he was 2, in the slums of Delhi.

Devendra’s personal struggles pushed him towards finding a purpose in life. This purpose was fulfilled when he started the Ladli Foundation, an NGO focused on changing the lives of girl children in the country. With a shared vision, BYJU’S EFA joined hands with the Ladli Foundation to distribute over 1,00,000 licenses over 3 years.

The Story of Ladli Foundation

While Devendra raised his sister by himself, both of their education was severely compromised. When the time came for Devendra’s sister to be married, many families asked for dowry, banking on the fact that she was not educated.

“When a girl child is born, first, the parents think of how to get her married. In fact, they don’t save up for her education, but for her marriage. This is the reason for so many suicides and dowry deaths,” Devendra says.

Unable to tolerate this kind of injustice that happens with all those girls who are uneducated and are from poor families, he founded the NGO, Ladli Foundation.

The non-profit has been involved in various campaigns including Menstrual Hygiene Management, preventive healthcare camp, support to unmarried women, providing inclusive education to slum children, and drug de-addiction. These campaigns and activities cater to both girls and boys.

BYJU’S EFA has joined hands with the Ladli Foundation to distribute over 1,00,000 licenses over 3 years.

International Day of the Girl Child

On International Day of the Girl Child, Devendra shares that what we need to prioritise the most is healthcare and then, education. We as a society also need to put in the effort to eliminate gender-based violence (GBV).

Along with education, he further shares that we need to help them with vocational training and help them stand on their feet. That’s why Ladli also strongly believes in gender sensitisation and that it is key to change the overall standpoint of society.

While one section of rural India may not have access to modern-day digital facilities, there are a whole lot of girls who at least have smartphones. Devendra shares that the only thing they lack is access to good content through these devices.

“We saw that the girls had access to smartphones, but not to good educational facilities. That’s where our collaboration with BYJU’S EFA has helped,” says Devendra.

Joining Hands with BYJU’S Education for All

BYJU’S Education for All hopes to reach out to the lakhs of girl children who are severely impacted by the pandemic. Through the Ladli Foundation, it hopes to reach this number and educate as many girl children as possible.

In phase 1 of the partnership, BYJU’S EFA has distributed over 327 licenses to the child beneficiaries, of which the gender ratio remains neutral and are in grades 6-10.

“With the help of BYJU’S EFA, we have started an e-Pathanshaala with BYJU’S, through which our volunteers and interns guide the students to use the platform,” says Devendra.

While the partnership does have a goal of 1 lakh, Devendra strongly believes that this can go beyond and to help create a revolution.

Impacting the Lives of Girl Children

The Ladli Foundation envisions a strong community of women who are gender-based violence survivors. It runs with the support of about 17 employees, 2300 volunteers, and over 1000 dynamic interns during their vacations, sourced from various universities.

BYJU’S Education for All hopes to reach out to the lakhs of girl children who are severely impacted by the pandemic. Through the Ladli Foundation, we hope to reach this number and educate as many girl children as possible and eliminate the gaps in creating inclusive education.

With the support of Ladli’s strong team, we strive to work together and give wings to as many girls as possible. This will truly push us and enable us to reach our dream of empowering more than 5 million children by 2025.

Women education in early Indian society was quite good but in the middle age, it was not because of numerous limitations towards women. However, again it is getting improved and better day by day as people in India have understood the fact that without the growth and development of women, the growth of the country is not possible. Girl Education was never considered necessary in the previous time. But over the period of time people have realized the importance of a girl’s education. It is now considered as the awakening of girls in the modern era. Women are now competing with men in all the spheres of life. But still, there are people who oppose girl’s education because they believe that a girl’s sphere is at home and also they think that it is wastage of money to spend on a girl’s education. This thought is wrong as girl education can bring an uprising in the culture.

Importance of Girl Education

There are a lot of advantages involved in the education of girls. A well-educated and grown up girl can play an important role in the development of the country. An educated girl can share the load and burden of the men in different fields. A well-educated girl if not forced to marry in her early age, can serve as writer, teacher, advocate, doctor, and scientist. She can perform very well in other important fields too.

Education is a boon for girls in this age of economic crises. In today’s time, it is really difficult to meet both the ends in a middle-class family. After the marriage, an educated girl can work and help her husband in bearing the expenses of the family. She can also earn if in case her husband expires and there is no helping hand in the family.

Education also broadens the thought of the women, thus it helps in the good upbringing of her children. It also gives her the freedom of thought to decide what best is there for her and the family.

Education helps a girl become economically independent while she knows her rights and women empowerment which helps her to fight against the problem of gender inequality.

The improvement of a nation depends on girl’s learning. So, girl’s education should be encouraged.

Girl Education Essay 3 (400 words)

Women education is essential for the appropriate social and economic development of the country. Both men and women run parallel like two wheels in every society. We can never overlook their contributions to the society and country.

Girl Education Essay 4 (500 words)

Female education is the need of the hour. We can’t become a developed nation without educating the women of the country. Women play an essential role in the all round progress of the country. Women must be educated to make a democracy successful. They are the real builders of a happy home.

By educating a man, we educate one person, but if we educate a woman, we educate the whole family. This highlights the significance of female education. It is true that a woman is the first teacher for her children and they receive their very first lesson in mother’s lap. Hence, if a mother is well-educated then she can play an important role in shaping her children’s future.

Educated Girls Vs Uneducated Girls

If we look at it, we will observe that a knowledgeable girl not only serve for her family but also serve for her nation. She can serve her nation as a teacher, a nurse, a doctor, an administrator, a soldier, a policewoman, a reporter, an athlete, etc.

It is a fact that the girls have gained more achievements than the boys in less time.

An educated wife can split the load of her husband’s life by doing jobs or by sharing her knowledgeable views about the jobs. An educated housewife can educate her children and can teach her children about the rights and moral values. She can also guide them to differentiate between good and bad things.

Girls are gaining their rights and respect in the society and our society is working hard for this. Girls have the potential to lead their country in every field.

Once Napoleon said – “Nation’s progress is impossible without trained and educated mothers and if the women of my country are not educated, about half of the people will be ignorant.” Thus we should create an atmosphere in which not a single woman remains uneducated.

Duties of a Girl and Contribution of Education

There are three major roles which are performed by women in her course of life – A daughter, a wife and a mother. Except for these significant duties, they have to establish themselves as good citizens of a nation. Hence, it is essential to give women a diverse kind of education from the one given to boys. Their learning should be in such a way that it should enable them to do their duties in an appropriate way. By education, they become fully mature in all the fields of life. An educated woman is well aware of her duties and rights. She can contribute to the development of the country in the same way as men do.

Women should be given equivalent chance in education like men and they should not be cut off from any development opportunities. To extend the significance and progress the level of women education all over the country, proper awareness programs are necessary, especially in the rural areas. A knowledgeable female can teach her whole family and also the whole country.

Girl Education Essay 5 (600 words)

In terms of inhabitants, India is the second largest nation in the world and the rate of female education is much low in India. Girl education was the subject of worry in India in the middle age though it has now been solved to an immense extent. Education to women has been given a lot of priority in India just like men to carry some encouraging changes in the community. Previously women were not permitted to exit the gate of their houses. They were only restricted to the household works.

Upliftment of Girl Education

The Upliftment of girl education was mainly done by Raja Ram Mohan Ray and Iswara Chandra Vidyasagar during the British rule in India. They paid attention towards women education. Also, there were some leaders like Jyotiba Phule & Baba Sahib Ambedkar from lower caste community who took various initiatives to make education available to the women of India. It was with their efforts that after the Independence the government also adopted various measures to provide education to women. As a result, the women’s literacy rate has grown up since 1947.

Despite the fact that many more women are getting educated and women are being literate nowadays, there is still a gap between the literacy rate of men and women. If we look closer towards the women literacy rate, the situation looks very discouraging. According to a survey only 60% of girls receive primary education and further, it lowers down drastically to 6% when it comes to high secondary education.

Factors Responsible for Low Rate of Girl Education

There are some factors which are responsible in our Indian society which restrict the girls to attend school. These are:

  • Parents negative attitude
  • Insufficient school infrastructure
  • Religious factor
  • Child marriage
  • Child labour

Poverty – Though education is free still there is a lot of cost involved in sending children to school. It includes the cost of uniform, stationery, books, and conveyance which is too much for a family living below poverty line. They can’t even afford a day’s meal, educational expenses are too far to incur. That is the reason why parents prefer to keep their girl child at home.

Distance – In many parts of India, a primary school is situated too far away from the villages. There is 4-5 hours long walk to reach the school. Keeping in mind the safety and other security factors parents restrict the girl child to go to school.

Insecurity – Girls sometimes have to face various forms of violence at the school. Including violence on the way to school, by the school teacher, students and other people involved in the school environment. So girls’ parents think that she might not be safe at that place hence forbid them from going to school.

Negative Attitude – People generally think that a girl should learn how to cook, how to maintain the house and to do household tasks as these should be the primary focus of girl’s life. Their contribution to the household work is valued more than their education.

Child Marriage – In Indian society, still there are cases of child marriage. A girl is forced to marry at an early age and is often pulled out of the school at a very early age. Due to early marriage, they get pregnant at an early age and thus all their time is devoted towards the child and no time is left for studying.

Child Labour – This is also a major cause to forbid girls from studying. Working and earning at an early age is the main factor to be held responsible for not studying. Parents due to poverty force girls to work at an early age hence the girls are forbidden from studying.

Religious factor – India is a vast country and consists of various religions. Some religious practitioners also forbid the girl child to be educated. According to them, it is against the religion.

There is an immense need of educating the parents about the merits and benefits of girl child education. It’s not only the duty of the government but it’s our responsibility also to educate people around us. The best thing is that our P.M. has taken a very good initiative towards the girl child education through ‘ Beti Bachao Beti Padhao ’ campaign in villages. As per him, if we want to see our country developed then we have to make all girls educated.

Girls’ education and gender equality is very important for strengthening the society and lowering crime rates; but girl’s education today goes beyond just sending girls to school. It is also about ensuring girl’s safety while they are in school.

Most of the parents in rural areas are now seem to be convinced in sending their girl child to school, but it is important that girls finish all necessary levels of education, learn extra skills and competencies for showcasing same level of competitiveness in the labour market. Education helps shape independent thinking of girls so as to enable them take decisions of their lives on their own and differentiate between right and wrong so that they are able to contribute towards societal development.

Paragraph on Girl Education 150 Words

Girls are undoubtedly an indispensable part of our society. No society or culture can progress without the presence of girls. Until few years ago, people in India and several other underdeveloped and developing countries used to think that girls should stay at home, cook food and look after the kids and elderly. But now the mindset has been changed; girls in India are bringing accolades to their parents and they are doing well in every field such as academics, sports, politics, etc.

This could only be possible through encouraging girls’ education. Education is the only weapon that can empower girls and consequently strengthen the society. It is good to see that the modern age is changing its attitude towards girls and giving them all the support to prove their potential. Gender equality plays an important role in this change of attitude. Every girl is capable of doing extraordinary work provided they get proper education and upbringing.

Girls’ education and gender equality are the part of broader and holistic efforts made by the World Bank Group. It promotes girls’ education and ensures that girls do not suffer unreasonably in poor and vulnerable family due to lack of support and care. It also works towards advancing the skills and creating job opportunities for young girls and women.

Girls have equal rights to education; though education system may vary in curriculum, administration and personnel, but it has a strong influence on the students they serve. Gradually, women are asserting their independence, using their rights for creating education and job opportunities for themselves. Gender inequality is clearly one of the important roadblocks in girls’ education. Many communities in India still believe that boys are the only contender of their culture and tradition; and girls are born to serve within the four walls of a home.

Hence, it is important that holistic approach is adopted in order to encourage gender equality in each and every sphere whether it’s home, office or any other government institution, etc. The open and honest discussion on girls’ education and women empowerment can actually prove to be a solution to violence against females. Education will not only make them independent, but will also promote their sound mental development and give them a stronger personality.

Paragraph on Girl Education 250 Words

Girls’ education is important from every perspective of life and society. Educated women lead a healthier life compared to the uneducated women; they participate in the family matters and in the formal labour markets too; earn well, marry at a considerable age and plan a family in a better manner. Not only do they take right decisions for themselves, but they also provide better education and health care options to their children. All these factors together can help eradicate poverty, crimes and disease rates. Girls’ education is an important element for the foundation of a strong society as well as forging a sound national identity.

Poverty and lack of knowledge are important factors for depriving girls from education. Different studies reveal that girl children in rural areas have to put up with a host of disadvantages such as low family income, lack of education, living in remote locations, inaccessibility to health and education centres, minority backgrounds, etc. Violence and various forms of crimes against women deprive them of gaining sound education and also living in a protected environment where they can gain an uninterrupted progress.

Fortunately in the present times, girls are gradually overcoming every social as well as psychological barrier. In fact, the government and NGOs are taking several steps in promoting girl’s education and gender equality. The latest campaign ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ is one such example. It is also important that girls themselves come forward and make a contribution towards the progress of girl’s education. However, sadly most of the girls in rural areas still succumb to fate and accept whatever is decided for them. They need to understand that only education can help them in leading a better and empowered life. Education will not only change their way of thinking, but will also help them in improving their life and the life of their family.

Paragraph on Girl Education 300 Words

Advocacy on girls’ education is often witnessed by the media, NGOs, trusts, government, etc but convincing everyone of girls’ education is still really quite a task in rural and remote regions. Even though girls today are competing with men in every sphere of life, but still there are many people who are against girls’ education. They believe that girls souls be confined to home because that’s their actual area of work; they even argue that money should not be wasted on girls’ education. This conventional view is absolutely baseless because time and again girls have proved themselves equally capable to that of boys.

Girls’ education can completely change the face of the society as girls are doing better in every field now-a-days. Every girl must be given an opportunity to study and shouldn’t be discriminated on the basis of their gender. In most of the villages, even today, a girl is forced to leave school and get married at an early age because they are considered to be the liability for the family. Uneducated girls in such circumstances face several crimes, such as related to dowry, domestic violence, etc.

Education certainly has the potential to change everything as it awakens people’s mind especially that of the girls. An educated girl can grow up to be one such person who is mentally sound enough to take the right decisions for herself. She will be empowered to decide the correct age for her marriage and giving birth to a child. Education is the only solution to several social problems or evils prevalent in a society. An educated girl can help earn livelihood for herself and support her family too. She can impart education to her children, thereby contributing to a better and educated society. Education improves knowledge; thus, an education girl can even save her children, family and herself from various types of diseases. An educated girl is a boon to the community because she is capable of giving a new social makeup to the society.

Paragraph on Girl Education 350 Words

Girls’ education has always been a matter of discussion. Since ages, girls have been considered weaker and thus are suggested to stay at home and take care of the household issues. But time is changing now; girls today are crossing the borders of their respective houses and doing wonders. Girls who were presumed to be physically weak are to everyone’s surprise now joining the army, navy, air force, wrestling, shooting and every other field that was once considered to be the male dominated regions.

But still today, a considerable section of India, especially in rural areas, particularly parents still hesitate to send girls to schools. There are several reasons behind this and age-old mindset is one of the biggest reasons. In a country like India where a majority of population worship goddesses like Durga, Kali, Shakti, Saraswati, etc, it is really strange to notice that girls are not allowed to take their own decisions. Lack of education gives birth to several ill-practices as grave as child marriage, dowry system, domestic violence and various other crimes against women.

Government must take some important steps towards promoting girl education such as providing scholarships, stipends, certificates, etc to the girls in order to motivate them. Reducing distance to school would not only ensure safety of girls in remote areas, but would also encourage parents to send their daughters to school. It is also important that young boys and men are included in the discussions about societal and cultural practices and crimes against women; such discussions may change the conservative mindset of the male towards their female counterparts. In order to increase the confidence of girls and young women in the education system, authority must build safe and inclusive learning atmosphere for them.

Gender-sensitive curriculum would enhance their practical knowledge too, thereby preparing them for the future. More and more female teachers should be hired in schools; this would inspire girls to study harder and follow their teacher’s footprints. Government must also take firm steps to end early/child marriage; all these and several other steps would certainly increase the sense of responsibility in parents too and would motivate girls to gain education and grow up to be an independent person.

Paragraph on Girl Education 400 Words

Introduction

Girl education is highly important for bringing equality in the society and infusing confidence in females. Unfortunately majority of the girls in rural areas in India are still illiterate; government and various NGOs are taking several steps towards liberating women and girl education is one of the most important steps towards the same. Many schools and colleges are opened for girls. Girl education is certainly receiving a great encouragement and the move made by our country towards this direction is highly appreciated.

Benefits of Girl Education

An educated girl is an asset to the society in the form of a daughter, wife and mother and most importantly she is an example for herself. Women are gaining great recognition on national as well as international platform. Educated girls are working in every sphere of society such as banks, hospitals, private firms and government offices. They are also earning name and fame in sports, such as wrestling, cricket, shooting, etc and most of them have brought accolades to the country on an international level too. Only education has made it successful. Girl education has also led to their economic independence and gender equality. They are capable of taking their decisions and fighting against crimes such as dowry, child marriage, trafficking, etc.

Steps towards Girl Education

Unfortunately, most of the people in rural areas are still against girls’ education. Even if they send their daughters to schools, most of the girls cannot study beyond primary level due to poverty, considerable distance of the school, lack of safety in schools, etc. So our government needs to take more efficient steps in promoting girl education nationwide especially in the rural areas. Every village should have a school particularly for girls; safety of girls in schools must be increased so that girls can go to co-education schools as well. Special training should be given to girls to increase their skills which would help them in fetching jobs for themselves.

Education Specific to Girls

Though, there is no distinction between the syllabus of boys and girls in today’s education system; but it is also important that girls are also trained on extracurricular subjects such as health, hygiene, painting, music, cookery, arts, etc so that they can even begin their own venture, if required.

Education in general, is important for everyone and an educated girl is no less than any boy. Time has come when parents must start showing equal faith in the girl child too, only then the society and the nation would flourish.

Essay on Girl Education

If we see our India it is the second-largest country in the world, wherein in some fields we are equal to other countries, but when it comes to education for girls we are too behind, hence the rate of girl education is very very low. India is known for the study of a goddess but when it comes to the real picture it’s different. The poor people are not able to give proper education to their daughters. Education for girls has somewhat improved over the last few decades but there is still a long way to go, and for this the government should take action. In The past, people were not much interested in educating their daughters, they used to think that they should not leave home. But slowly the time is changing, people are also changing their mindset in terms of giving education to their daughters because they also want to see them getting success in their life but still not happening to people living in rural areas.

Girl education is a term used in context to describe and resolve issues in the educational upliftment of women as a group. Historically in almost all major societies and cultures, women were expected to be doing household chores and all major social work were done by the men. Men used to be the ones competing for positions and resources in society. When education became a thing it was men who started to learn new things and have a formal process to get through with the education.

As the industrial revolution came into existence the ability of men which gave them an edge over women became irrelevant. Women went out and started contributing to society. But there was one problem, women were yet to achieve their fair share of education and hence were unable to compete with men for the position available.

Challenges in Girl Education

Poverty: A major challenge in girl education is poverty. When families struggle to get their basic needs it becomes tough for them to send their children for education. Even if somehow they can afford some basic schooling it always prefers boys over girls to send them for education.

Social Conservatism: In many developing countries the boy stays with parents throughout their life and takes care of them. While girls marry and move in with their husband and his family. This always reduces the incentive for families to educate their girls.

Safety: In many countries, the safety of girls is very risky and families stop their education over their safety. This as a society is our responsibility to create a safe environment for everyone at least till they don't fear to come for education.

Religion: Some of the religious texts have girl children forbidden to have education, at least it is how the religious texts get translated by the religious people for use in daily life. This prevents families from sending their girl child for education.

Many organizations have come forward to help the world with the issue involved in girl child education. This problem is more acute in developing nations as compared to developed countries. We as a nation should have to definitely work on it as India suffers most from this issue. We have the second largest population and so we have the second-largest women population and if we won't be able to bring them to the frontline with better education it will be very tough for us to compete with the world.

child marriage essay in telugu

The Impact and Causes of Child Marriage

Child marriage is nothing less than the exploitation of a right. To marry, the child must have reached 18 years of age in almost every country. It is a violation of their rights to marry the child before they reach 18 years.

The practice of child marriage has been a common cause. Many people consider a girl to be someone else’s property from the moment she is born.

The elders also want to help their families grow so that they can marry the children to define their status. To get rid of loans, taxes, and dowry, the poor practice child marriage.

Children, particularly girls, can experience life-altering effects from child marriage. Children are responsible for household chores. They may not be mentally or physically ready, but they are responsible for the household responsibilities.

People expect minor boys to take on financial responsibility, but the girls must look after their family and house. They are restricted from learning and playing.

Their health is also at risk from the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV. It is especially harmful for young girls to get pregnant.

How to end child marriage

It is urgent that child marriage be stopped. To end this social evil, all people must question the old norms. We must also get rid of the notion that girls are inferior to men.

Children, particularly girls, must be empowered to make their own changes. They must have access to high-quality education so that they can live independently later.

Children need safe spaces to be free to express their opinions and voice their opinion. To ensure that everyone has equal protection and value, it is important to eliminate all forms of gender discrimination.

Conclusion of the Child Marriage Essay

Summarising, a marriage should be a sacred union of mature individuals and not an unsound institution that compromises the future of our children. This problem must be addressed at the grassroots level, starting with ending poverty and reducing lack of education. People will learn more and be better.
