This year was so cold with freeze blowing compared to another years. Depressing drizzle days arrived neither my birthday.

All my cousins, aunts and family friends were invited for the occasion celebration. Not that I would wann to talk to them or look into their fake, cow looking faces, but it’s my parents inviting them every single year. My mom prepared for me a special sparkling pink dress that I had to wear. She knows I hate pink, but she got them for me anyway or maybe she didn’t even bother. Pretty disturbing cut of the dress combinated with the ugliest shade of pink made me look like rotting strawberry.

This glamorous day was supposed to be a day full of excitement, joy and expectations. The living room was tastefully decorated with very aromatic flowers, balloons and colourful paper buntings. As I was walking down the stairs a presently good smell burced into me. Smell of properly baked chicken with a sense of sezam and baked batatat potatoes. The whole stairwall was covered with sparkling glitters and shining little lights like in Hollywood. The music was already on so that meant someone had already arrived. I was walking as slowely as possible, if I could I wound crawl like snail, but with thith dress like this it was nearly impossible. I was suspicious who came so early and into my surprise, it was me cousin S. with his family I haven’t seen in months.

A euphoria of happiness came and I started screaming and brushed into S. arms. He hugged me so tight I could nearly breath. He changed. He was taller and much more musculant then last summer. They welcomed me by clapping hands and handshakes as if I was some kind of a celebrity. All the sweaty hands were all over me and I just wanted to bury myself. The birthday cake had been placed on a large table with fifteen candles fixed on it. It was a large and beautiful chocolate cake. I would rather have a vanilla one, but grandmom is allergic to vanilla. Dad lighted the candles with grandpas old lighter like little lives. The little lights were moving and waiving and small drops of wax started dropping on top of the cake. They were slowly sliding down towards sides of birthday candles while everyone was singing Happy Birthday to me. They were all out of harmony and just by the look on their faces I could tell that no one was enjoying that moment. I could feel all their eyes staring at me as I was trying not to laugh. When this moment (internity) of cowardness finished, I blew the candles in one blow, felt just like “victory”.

I had to sit on the head of the table because that’s a tradition in our families when someone has a birthday. The guests were served with appetizer, soup, main course, alcohol, soft drinks and tea. S. always sneaks some good rum for us and then we dink it in our backyard as everyone is already dunk at that time. We used to play we’re drunk pirates and we would kidnap our cousins and torture them. While all the slimy people at the table were having so much fun, merry-making and laughing at jokes that weren’t even funny.

When the party was over, I unpacked the gifts. I was surprised to, actually find so many lovely gifts. My father got me a new guitar. My mother bought me the pink dress and gave me a voucher to her favourite hair salon. But the loveliest gift was from S. who gave me a bouquet of red roses with our photo in the middle.

I thanked my parents for “the best birthday party ever”, said goodbye to my best cousin S. and went to bed.

It was my first week at university, and to celebrate my birthday, my friends wished me at 12 AM and gave me plenty of hugs. We decided to watch a movie of my choice, so I chose a horror movie. We ate lots of food, chatted and listened to music, which made for a nice, small party.

Later in the day, I went to see my family, who surprised me with the prettiest birthday cake I’d ever seen. The edge of the cake was completely made of Kit Kat’s, and the top was sprinkled with M&Ms. I blew the candles, cut the cake and cheered as I opened birthday presents. I played around with my younger siblings and watched a movie with them.

I think the reason this birthday party of sorts is memorable for me is because it was my first week in a new place. I was very frightened and nervous, but spending time with friends and family because of my birthday helped me feel more comfortable.

She told me that she is going to pick me up at 8:30 pm. I asked my parents. They said ok. Henna came after 1 and ½ hour to pick me up in a beautiful car. When I reached her house she opened the door. As soon as we entered all my friends were inside with many ballons, flowers.

They all shouted loud in a chorus- “Happy Birthday Vere”. All hugged me one by one and gave me gifts and roses. Then all of them sang my favorite song. I cut the cake which they bought. We danced, had food that Heena arranged for all of us and enjoyed a lot. I can never forget that birthday because it was the best birthday of my life and my friends and family made me realized that I am a big girl of 18 now.

I shall ever remember my twelfth birthday. It was celebrated in a grand style. My birthday falls on the 13th of April every year. Baisakhi is also celebrated the same day. My birthday falls in the spring season and days are very pleasant then.

This year a cool and fragrant breeze was blowing. All my friends and near relatives were invited for the occasion. A special sky-blue shirt and a black trouser were prepared for me. It was a day full of excitement, joy and expectations.

The drawing-room was tastefully decorated with flowers balloons and colourful paper buntings. In the evening, the celebrations began when all the guests arrived. Then I went into the hall dressed in my special clothes.

They were all waiting for me. They welcomed me by clapping hands and handshakes The birthday cake had been placed on a large table with ten candles fixed on it. It was a large and beautiful chocolate cake.

Candles were lit. I blew them out in one blow and then cut the cake. Friends and relatives cheered me loudly, clapped and sang “happy birthday to you”. I was given so many presents, all wrapped beautifully.

The guests were served with cake pieces, sweets, snacks and soft drinks and tea. There was much fun, merry-making, laughter and jokes. Children were given toffees and chocolates. As a return gift, every person was given a set of books.

When the party was over, I unpacked the gifts. I was surprised to find so many lovely gifts. My father gave me a wristwatch My mother bought me a new bicycle. I thanked my parents for celebrating my birthday in such a grand style. I shall ever remember the day.

Birthdays are a lot of fun. Your friends come together to celebrate your life and have a great time together. In my short life, I have seen a few birthdays. For the most part, they have been all the same. My parents send out the invitations, my friends dress up and come at the appointed hour, we eat a lot of food, play a lot of games and have a lot of fun.

One of the problems with birthdays though, all the good ones seem to melt together. It is hard to distinguish one birthday from another. They all seem to have a common theme and one good party is the same as the one previous to it and the one previous to that one.

Sometimes it is hard to pick one but not this time. I have one particular birthday that has stood out in my memory and while it does not haunt me it does not leave my memory banks. It is just kind of there reminding me that not all birthdays are memorable for good reasons. This particular birthday was not marred by accidents, injuries, or disasters. And the memorable part came after it was over.

It all took place on my 19th birthday, a year out of high school. I was a freshman in college at the time and my friends who attended were my classmates. It was not an exotic affair, just friends gathering together to celebrate a birthday over a nice dinner in town.

None of us had a car so we took the bus to the restaurant. This particular restaurant was not that expensive but it was very birthday friendly. That allowed us to have a good time without disturbing other dinner guests. I do not remember what we ate but it was good. That much I do remember about the food. the cake was shaped like a heart because my birthday falls on Valentine’s Day.

I have become tired of heart-shaped cakes as I seem to have one every year. My birthday wishes now are to get a different shaped cake next year. Before they presented me with their gifts they had to sing Happy Birthday to me which I appreciated but thought they could have skipped that part.

Of course, they did not have to but friends being friends always give something nice to their buddy on their birthday. This part I enjoyed immensely but it did not separate this particular day from all the previous ones. I always received gifts n my birthday.

I am not sure how long the party lasted but it could not go to late as our college had a curfew and we had to be back by 10 or we would be in trouble, birthday or not. By all accounts, this was not a memorable birthday. It was the standard party most people receive on their special day. Good friends just gathered together for a great time of fun and food.

What made it memorable was the news I received after I returned to my college dorm room. My family had called with sad news. One of my best childhood friends had passed away earlier that night. We were friends since before we went to elementary school and we faced school life together. He was more outgoing than I and he had a lot of friends.

What made it hard to fathom was my friend did not have a dangerous or contagious disease. Nor did he take a lot of risks when participating in different activities. No, he died of appendicitis. It had burst before the doctors could save him.

Maybe I would have understood it better if he had not died from such a simple medical procedure. There are times I think about my friend and that keeps this birthday standing out above all the rest.

My favourite day of the year for me is my birthday, which is on December 20. It's the day when I can do whatever I feel like, and I am made to feel extra special by my parents. One thing I always ensure is that my birthday celebrations should involve the most special people of my life, that is, my family and friends, and that I should also do some good to the needy and underprivileged children. Here is a detailed explanation of how I celebrated my birthday in one of the previous years.

Celebrations At School

On my birthday, which was on December 20’ 2008, the whole school sang a birthday song for me in the morning assembly. I wore my favourite dress to school instead of the school uniform and distributed sweets among all students and teachers. For my friends who reside far from my house, I planned a party.

We went for lunch, my father picked us up and drove us to a restaurant. They were all talking happily as they ate lunch. After lunch and dessert, my father dropped off my friends at their houses before we returned home.

Evening Celebrations

I had a variety of plans for the evening. A birthday party was planned by my parents at home with lovely decorations and a big theme cake.

The Cake | The decoration was done by an event planner, and the cake was also customised. It was of light blue and pink colour and had detailing made of cream-like flowers and leaves, with two candles attached at the top of it. It was made of two layers, the first layer was of strawberry flavour, and the other was of vanilla.

What We Did | By 5:30, all of my friends and family members had arrived wearing party clothes. They all wished me birthday. Around six o'clock, we had begun playing games like races, musical chairs, and other activities. After playing, I cut the cake, and everyone handed me gifts. Although I had to wait, I was very eager to open the gifts. After the cutting of the cake, dinner was served, with a few starters, and both vegetarian and non-vegetarian main course. I also gave the guests a return gift as an expression of thanks. The return gift consisted of a small ‘thank you’ card and some chocolates.

Gifts I Got

Everyone went back to their homes after dinner, and I started opening the gifts, no matter small or big. I received one Barbie doll set, some chocolates, video games and one handmade card made by my friend. I became emotional on seeing the handmade card as it was beautifully crafted, having some pictures of my friends attached to it. I kept this card safely inside my almirah so that it remained as it is and did not get lost.

My parents and I were feeling incredibly exhausted, but we were happy that we had a great party and a meaningful day. My parents got emotional thinking that time was flying by too fast, and soon I would grow up enough to get married and leave their house.

Answer: I like to go to school on that day because I feel special. Everyone wears uniforms, but I get to wear coloured dresses. I take chocolates with me and distribute them to my classmates and the teachers.

Answer : I get a lot of gifts. My parents always give me things that I wish for. All my friends and relatives also bring beautiful gifts in the evening. The best part is that I get a lot of chocolates.

Answer: The best part of my birthday is that I don’t have to study. No one asks me about exams and school. All my friends come home, and I get to play for the entire day. My mother also cooks all my favourite dishes.
