The American Center of Research , a nonprofit institution dedicated to advancing knowledge of Jordan and the interconnected region, past and present, seeks a Research Assistant (or two) to aid in the implementation of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant supporting publication of the Temple of the Winged Lions (TWL) in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Petra. This position represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience working with an archive of archaeological material and the process of preparing it for publication, as well as to network with leading scholars.

The selected candidate(s) will be required to assist with a variety of matters, which may include but may not be limited to: digitizing archival documents related to the TWL excavation performed by the American Expedition to Petra and the CRM project undertaken by Temple of the Winged Lions Cultural Resource Management Initiative and making these available to contributors through either an online archive or direct correspondence; finding documents and/or information within the archives at the request of contributors and editors; becoming sufficiently versed in the archive to guide publication contributors to the appropriate available resources; creating or amending spreadsheets to aid in the utility and accessibility of data; conducting other research and support activities in the project’s archives for the contributors and editors; organizing images for publication; manage content on the TWL Facebook page; preparing and plotting data for the spatial-distribution analysis undertaken by specialist researchers; organizing objects for return to the Department of Antiquities; other duties as assigned.

This is expected to be a part time 0.5 FTE (half-time) position for six months, but extension may be possible for up to 18 months total. Compensation will be based on experience. The successful candidate will be based in Amman, Jordan, but a portion of the work may be undertaken remotely.

A postgraduate degree or enrollment is preferred but not required. Candidates with a university degree or seeking a degree focusing on art, archaeology, cultural heritage, curation/museums, heritage management, or similar of the Near or Middle Eastern region are preferred, but all others with sufficient relevant experience will be considered. For best consideration, cover letters should state and explain such experience clearly.

Job Description

A full-time research assistant is being sought to support multiple NIH-funded projects in the labs of Dr. Pearl Chiu (lab information) , Dr. Brooks Casas (lab information) and Dr. Read Montague at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. This position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, supporting activities at our collaborative research sites. Research assistants are an essential part of the scientific team and play a lead role in enrolling research participants, recording and managing study data, and maintaining positive communication with research participants. The successful team member will be highly detail-oriented, organized, and skilled with monitoring and adjusting priorities, problem solving, and generally ensuring the day-to-day implementation of the research studies. Data collection involves various modalities: behavioral tasks, use of electrochemical recording equipment, clinical assessments and/or interviews. Training and supervision will be provided for all aspects of the position. The research assistant will interact with clinical research participant populations prior to experiments (for example, informing them about the proposed experiment and obtaining informed consent); conducting study procedures in a clinical setting (such as an operating room or recovery suite during their stay in the hospital); interacting with the subjects after the experimental protocol (for example, paying them for their participation, and obtaining further behavioral or biological sample data); keeping careful records of the interaction with participant; adhering to Research Center and Hospital procedures including personal protective equipment protocols, performing other tasks related to the successful completion of research protocols and the effective operation of the scanners and research center.

- Facility with computer tools such as MS Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. - Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. - Ability to learn new technical and operational processes and adapt well to changes. - Demonstrated interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

- Coursework or degree in engineering, psychology, biology, neuroscience or closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. - Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management and general administration. - Demonstrated communication skills. - Demonstrated ability to follow instructions. - Previous research experience.

We are seeking a Research Assistant (Social Science Research Professional 1) for a continuing term.

This position is based in Stanford, California. 

Stanford University is seeking a Research Assistant (Social Science Research Professional 1) to perform work to support research or develop public programs and policies, applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory.

Duties include:

•    Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying basic knowledge and understanding of scientific theory when precedents do not provide specific guidance. General instruction provided by the supervisor as needed. May interpret study results in collaboration with supervisor or PI.          •    Participate in the development and administration of survey instruments and rating scales requiring judgment in applying non-routine procedures. Analyze and summarize results for review with supervisor. Audit the accuracy and validity of data •    Review and audit case report forms for completion and accuracy with source documents, and ensure compliance with research protocols.   •    Identify, select, extract and summarize data and structured information. Present summary of findings to supervisor. •    Conduct literature searches, and write literature summaries and manuscripts, requiring preliminary judgments after the supervisor outlines conceptual approach.  •    Build and organize data as requested by principal investigator or supervisor; use common statistical programs requiring the application of job control language in generating and organizing data. •    Adapt new, nonstandard methods outlined by supervisor in designing and evaluating phases of research projects, (i.e., educational materials, questionnaires, strategies for recruitment, data quality control procedures and processes). May follow up with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure renewals are approved and completed, seeking guidance where necessary. •    Assist with development, communication and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web updates, social media, and/or white papers, for use in recruitment, educational, or awareness of programs, with guidance from supervisor.  •    May orient and train new staff or students.

Clinical Research Technician/Assistant - Term Limited

The Clinical Research Technician/Assistant will be working on a new clinical research study within the Department of Anesthesiology. The study, COMPASS (COmprehensive Mobile Precision Approach for Scalable Solutions in mental health treatment), is focused on the effects of wearable and mobile technology on mental health outcomes. The project's goals are to reduce the burden of depression and other mental health conditions via mobile technology-delivered interventions, as well as to accelerate recovery from mental illness by better matching pharmacological, psychological, and mobile-based treatments to patients. The Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for participant recruitment and follow-up tasks, including facilitating data collection and other study tasks.

This is a regular, but term-limited position, which will end after approximately two years.

We are looking to hire two full time staff at the Clinical Research Technician and four full time staff at the Clinical Research Assistant level. You will be considered for both depending on the positions still available and your experience.

This position is hybrid. The candidates will come into the Ann Arbor office about once a week to take care of shipping and specimen processing. The rest of the time will be remote work with UM provided technology.

Responsibilities*

The Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, screening, consenting, and enrolling research participants from multiple sites. The Clinical Research Coordinator will provide support to participants around the multiple technological components of this study, including installing the study smartphone application(s), electronic consenting, and setup of wearable devices. The Clinical Research Coordinator will support consenting, enrollment, and follow-up tasks as needed and requested by participants and the study team.

  • Will support in-person consenting, enrollment, and follow-up tasks as needed and requested by participants and the study team

The CRC will work with Study Coordinators to

  • organize and reach out to lists of participants that may be contacted for recruitment,
  • track and follow participants the study after their initial enrollment,
  • enter and manage data,
  • conduct chart reviews as necessary,
  • prepare and send participant mailings,
  • support the distribution of participant incentives,
  • provide customer support around participant usage of the study's technologies.
  • perform other routine project tasks.

Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the Research Intern

Required Qualifications*

CRC Technician:

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary. (Please review SoCRAs Definition of a Clinical Research Professional for qualifying experience prior to applying.)  or An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD. Or Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.  

CR Assistant:

  • High school diploma or GED is necessary

Both: 

  • Experience communicating with diverse patient populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with participants. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully while meeting competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and exercise good judgment.
  • Excellent attendance and strong work ethic in past settings.
  • The candidate for this position must also be able to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines and demonstrate a strong ability to keep accurate and detailed records of all study procedures. 
  • Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Applications.
  • Have reliable transportation given the potential for travel to multiple recruitment sites and participant follow-up appointments.

Desired Qualifications*

CRC Technician : Bachelors degree in health science or equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable.

CRC Assistant : Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable.

  • An understanding of medical terminology.
  • Experience in a large complex health care setting.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.
  • Evidence of course work or experience in Research Methods and clinical experience is preferred, but not required.  
  • Experience using MS Excel, Qualtrics, REDCap, and/or Microsoft Access are preferred. 
  • Previous experience conducting health-related research or with mental health populations is preferred, but not required.

Work Schedule

Monday- Friday 9am- 5pm with some flexibility.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

This position is term-limited for about 2 years (ending May 2026) with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Assistant Business Specialist

The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success.  Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices.  The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.

The Business Operations Office of the Business Services Directorate seeks an Assistant Business Specialist for a two-year term, rotational assignment.  Responsibilities include providing business, financial or contractual support to a variety of departments/divisions within the Laboratory (Business Offices, Budget Office, Fiscal Services, Procurement and Property Management).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Under general supervision, assignments could typically involve:

Review, coordination, and control of data used for preparation of budgets and forecasts.

Maintenance of routine financial/business records and reports.

Prepare and maintain financial/business office documentation.

Assist in the review and testing of financial internal control documents.

Support various organizations during periods of peak effort (proposal submission, budget submission, year-end processing, etc.).

Duties will vary with the specific assignment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline, preferably in accounting, finance, procurement, mathematics, or statistics.

Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with all MS Office products.

Clear and concise oral and written communication skills and effective interaction in a team environment.

Demonstrable problem-solving skills.

Ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels.

Flexible team player with the ability to interact with staff to accomplish objectives and resolve issues.

Ability to prioritize and effectively deal with deadlines.

Knowledge of BNL policies and procedures.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials, including utilizing its query capability.

Compensation:

Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable, and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $65650- $95200 / year.
