CBSE Class 10 Maths Case Study

CBSE Board has introduced the case study questions for the ongoing academic session 2021-22. The board will ask the paper on the basis of a different exam pattern which has been introduced this year where 50% syllabus is occupied for MCQ for Term 1 exam. Selfstudys has provided below the chapter-wise questions for CBSE Class 10 Maths. Students must solve these case study based problems as soon as they are done with their syllabus. 

These case studies are in the form of Multiple Choice Questions where students need to answer them as asked in the exam. Class 10 Maths (Formula, Case Based, MCQ, Assertion Reason Question with Solutions)

In order to score good marks in the term 1 exam students must be aware of the Important formulas, Case Based Questions, MCQ and Assertion Reasons with solutions. Solving these types of questions is important because the board will ask them in the Term 1 exam as per the changed exam pattern of CBSE Class 10th.

Important formulas should be necessarily learned by the students because the case studies are solved with the help of important formulas. Apart from that there are assertion reason based questions that are important too. 

Assertion Reasoning is a kind of question in which one statement (Assertion) is given and its reason is given (Explanation of statement). Students need to decide whether both the statement and reason are correct or not. If both are correct then they have to decide whether the given reason supports the statement or not. In such ways, assertion reasoning questions are being solved. However, for doing so and getting rid of confusions while solving. Students are advised to practice these as much as possible.

CBSE Class 10th Case study Questions

Recently CBSE Board has the exam pattern and included case study questions to make the final paper a little easier. However, Many students are nervous after hearing about the case based questions. To understand the assertion and reason, students need to know that there will be one statement that is known as assertion and another one will be the reason, which is supposed to be the reason for the given statement. However, it is students duty to determine whether the statement and reason are correct or not. If both are correct then it becomes important to check, does reason support the statement? 

Moreover, to solve the problem they need to look at the given options and then answer them.

Question 1:

The spherical mirror forms different types of images when the object is placed at different locations. When the image is formed on the screen, the image is real and when the image does not form on-screen, the image is virtual. When the two reflected rays meet actually, the image is real and when they appear to meet, the image is virtual. A concave mirror always forms a real and inverted image for different positions of the object. But if the object is placed between the focus and pole, the image formed is virtual and erect. A convex mirror always forms a virtual, erect, and diminished image. A concave mirror is used as a doctor’s head mirror to focus light on body parts like eyes, ears, nose, etc., to be examined because it can form erect and magnified images of the object. The convex mirror is used as a rear view mirror in automobiles because it can form a small and erect image of an object.

(i) When an object is placed at the center of curvature of a concave mirror, the image formed is

Answer: (c) same size as that of the object

(ii) No matter how far you stand from a mirror, your image appears erect. The mirror is likely to be

Answer: (d): The image is erect in a plane mirror and also in a convex mirror, for all positions of the object.

(iii) A child is standing in front of a magic mirror. She finds the image of her head bigger, the middle portion of her body of the same size and that of the legs smaller. The following is the order of combinations for the magic mirror from the top.

Answer: (c) : As the image of head is bigger, the upper portion of magic mirror is concave. The middle portion of the image is of same size, so, middle portion of magic mirror is plane. Now, the image of legs looks smaller, therefore, the lower portion of magic mirror is convex.

(iv) To get an image larger than the object, one can use (a) convex mirror but not a concave mirror (b) a concave mirror but not a convex mirror (c) either a convex mirror or a concave mirror (d) a plane mirror.

Question 2:

The lenses form different types of images when objects are placed at different locations. When a ray is incident parallel to the principal axis, then after refraction, it passes through the focus or appears to come from the focus.

When a ray goes through the optical center of the lens, it passes without any deviation. If the object is placed between the focus and the optical center of the convex lens, an erect and magnified image is formed.

As the object is brought closer to the convex lens from infinity to focus, the image moves away from the convex lens from focus to infinity. Also, the size of the image goes on increasing and the image is always real and inverted.

A concave lens always gives a virtual, erect, and diminished image irrespective of the position of the object.

Corrosion is the phenomenon of deterioration of surface of metal in presence of air and moisture. It is a natural process and in the presence of a moist atmosphere, chemically active metals get corroded. This is an oxidation reaction. Rusting is the process where iron corrodes due to exposure to the atmosphere. The main circumstance of corrosion occurs with iron because it is a structural material in construction, bridges, buildings, rail transport, ships, etc. Aluminium is also an important structural metal, but even aluminium undergoes oxidation reactions. However, aluminium doesn’t corrode or oxidize as rapidly as its reactivity suggests. Copper (Cu) corrodes and forms a basic green carbonate.

Oxidation is the process of gaining of oxygen, or losing of hydrogen. Reduction is the process of losing of oxygen or gaining of hydrogen. The substance which undergoes oxidation is the reducing agent while the substance which undergoes reduction is known as the oxidising agent. Oxidation and reduction always take place together and these type of reactions are known as redox reactions. Some of the examples of redox reactions are given below:

Question 3:

A chemical reaction is a representation of chemical change in terms of symbols and formulae of reactants and products. There are various types of chemical reactions like combination, decomposition, displacement, double displacement, oxidation and reduction reactions. Reactions in which heat is released along with the formation of products are called exothermic chemical reactions. All combustion reactions are exothermic reactions.

(i) The chemical reaction in which a single substance breaks down into two or more simpler substances upon heating is known as (a) thermal decomposition reaction (b) photo decomposition reaction (c) electric decomposition reaction (d) both (a) and (c)

Case study two takes forward the ideas produced by CurioUS and the Volunteer Events Team and further investigates how power performs in co-curation with community participants when the project is not on site of a museum. The case focuses on how the museum professional and the community participant experience power when non-selective curation in its infancy is applied and there is greater transparency of processes from the start. The research used a combination of auto-ethnographic observations which lay out backstage attempts to censor participant stories, followed by an analysis of questionnaires (n11/15) and interviews (n10/15) with the participants that present the front of stage perspective, as felt by them. It examines the binary positionings of Us and Them as found in the language participants use to describe their experience, which differs wildly from the auto-ethnographic observations. The observations presented here highlight the gaps and the incongruences of power operating in intercultural negotiations that are albeit perhaps subconscious and somewhat dispositional; they are coercive and symbolically violent in their othering and censoring actions. This phenomenon ultimately shows that reputational fear, which is also discussed as a finding in case study four, is disallowing missions of openness

The below picture are few natural examples of parabolic shape which is represented by a quadratic polynomial. A parabolic arch is an arch in the shape of a parabola. In structures, their curve represents an efficient method of load, and so can be found in bridges and in architecture in a variety of forms.

Development and growth are often used interchangeably, however, they represent distinct facets of progress. Growth primarily pertains to quantitative expansion, such as an augmentation in GDP, population, or production. It is quantifiable and readily observable. Conversely, development encompasses a broader range of factors. It encompasses enhancements in living standards, education, healthcare, and overall well-being. Development places emphasis on the quality of growth rather than mere quantity. It is possible for a nation to experience growth without truly developing, resulting in disparities and inequalities. Consequently, the pursuit of sustainable development is paramount, ensuring not only economic growth but also social progress, equity, and environmental sustainability. Striking a balance between growth and development is the ultimate challenge for societies striving for comprehensive advancement.

Q1) Is development only calculated in monetary terms? Mark 2

Answer Quality of life also depends on non materialistic thing like quality of air, peaceful society , healthy environment and law and order condition which cannot be majorly buy by money. Development is majorly a subjective term and hence precise by different people differently.

Answer An industrialist seek construction of dam for more electricity and more production however people who will required to migrate due to dam may not seek it as a development process in their life.

Q3) What are the two fundamental principle of development? Mark 1

Answer First different persons can have different developmental goals and second, what may be development for one may not be development for the other. It may even be destructive for the other.

Case Study 2:

A developed country is a highly industrial growth oriented country where quality of life is high, presence of developed economy and advanced technology. While the developing countries are those that are in either pre industrialization or in industrialization process. These economies are mostly relies in agrarian form of economy and there per capita income is generally less than the others. Another aspect of the developed countries are their highly dominating tertiary and Quaternary Sector. While tertiary sector provides services such as entertainment, finance and retailers quaternary sector comprises of knowledge based activities like of Information technology , research and development as well as areas of consulting services etc.  There is no all-agreed definition of a developed country.

Agencies such as the United Nations, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization, and the World Economic Forum use their indicators to club developed and developing countries. For example, the UN classifies countries into low, lower-middle, upper-middle, and high-income countries.

This classification is based on an individual country’s gross national income (GNI) per capita. Low –Income Economy: GNI per capita of up to $1,085 Lower Middle-income: GNI per capita up to $4,255 Upper-Middle-income: GNI per capita $13,205 High-Income economy: GNI per capita above $13,205.

Answer  Average income which is the total income of the country divided by its total population. The average income is also called per capita income

Answer  Development refers to a broader, multidimensional improvement in living standards, education, healthcare, and overall well-being. Growth is primarily quantitative and relates to an increase in factors like GDP, population, or production. While growth is measurable, development encompasses qualitative aspects and focuses on the quality of life.

Case Study 3:

The Human Development Report (HDR) by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a vital tool for assessing a nation’s progress beyond mere economic growth. In the context of India, the HDR provides a nuanced perspective. While India has made significant economic strides, socio-economic disparities persist. The report highlights challenges in health, education, and income inequality, reflecting the complexity of India’s development journey. It underscores the importance of inclusive policies to ensure that the nation’s remarkable growth benefits all citizens. As India continues its development path, the HDR serves as a crucial benchmark, guiding efforts towards a more equitable and prosperous future. A student’s BMI could be within the normal range or less than that (underweight) or more (obesity). For example, if a girl student is 14 years and 8 month old and the BMI is 15.2, then she is undernourished. Similarly, if the BMI of a boy aged 15 years and 6 months is 28, then he is overweight.

Answer BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a numerical measure that assesses a person’s body weight in relation to their height. It is calculated by dividing a person’s weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters. Continuous efforts to enhance the effectiveness of the PDS and reduce corruption are of utmost importance for its success in combating hunger and malnutrition in India.

Answer Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is a crucial demographic indicator that measures the number of deaths of infants under one year of age per 1,000 live births in a given population and time period

Case Study 5:

Despite being the first state in India to report COVID cases, Kerala was well-prepared due to its past experience in effectively managing the Nipah outbreak and Kerala floods. The state was able to initiate the necessary measures for containment because of its prior experience in mobilizing community-based groups, involving local self-government in decentralized planning, and participating in containment and relief measures, as well as having a well-equipped health system and infrastructure. The measures taken to “flatten the curve” in Kerala, which were unique to the state, and the factors that contributed to their success are described in detail using the framework developed after the Nipah outbreak containment experience. These insights are being shared with the hope that other regions can use them to replicate successful components.

Kerala’s remarkable success in managing the COVID-19 pandemic is a testament to its well-established infrastructure for social and human development. This foundation includes an efficient public healthcare delivery system that positions the state far ahead of the rest of India in numerous vital indicators.
