Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has granted an Autonomous status for M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) permitting to start admissions for Full Time Ph.D. Programme from the year 2021-22. In view of this, M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology has developed a Ph.D. Doctoral Programme in Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Management Studies.

The research scholars admitted for full time Ph.D. Doctoral Programme in MSRIT will be given a fellowship amount of Rs.25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand only) per month for a period of 3 years from the date of registration which is based on the recommendation of the Committee each year. Indeed, it is a great opportunity for the eligible candidates to pursue their Ph.D. programme in most reputed M S Ramaiah Institute of Technology.

Applications are invited for the admission of Ph.D. (Full Time) in the following Departments:

Eligibility

Candidates with valid VTU-ETR score OR Candidates qualified in the UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/CAT or other similar national tests and having qualifying percentile/percentage scores in their respective validity periods.

Admission to the Ph.D course is entirely based on merit. Candidates have to meet the basic eligibility criteria set by the college to apply. 

Application Procedure 

When applying for the VTU Ph.D course, students must follow the steps to register online and fill in the application form.

VTU Fees 2020-21 is approved in 131st executive council meeting.As students may note that there are no changes in the VTU fee structure as previously notified by VTU. Students and parents can acquiant themselves with the fee structure for the academic year 2020-21.

Students and parents had expressed their financial hardship and raised grieviences with regard to fee payment. In a UGC letter dated 9th June 2020, UGC addresses the Colleges to consider the Fee payment sympathetically given the extraordinary situation.However, now the approved VTU fee structure is released.

Also, VTU has provided some instructions to the Principals of all Engineering Colleges.

Points to be noted:

1.Ensure that the fee payment is done online and submit the receipt of the same to the Registrar. In addition to this, enter the fee amount head wise.For example Registration fee, e-learning fee.

2.Submit the details of the fee payment in the enclosed formats both in hard and softcopy. Ensure that the Softcopy is in MS-Excel and email it to [email protected] with copy to [email protected].

3 The repeater and readmitted students from previous years who are seeking admission to higher semester during the current academic year will also pay others fees as per this fee structure.

4 Registration Fee: To be collected from the students admitted in the college other than admitted through KEA.

5 Teachers development and Student Development: Send these fees to the D.D.P.I. & Officer in-Charge, Karnataka State Teachers Benefit Fund, " Shikshakara Sadana", Opp: Cauvery Bhavan , K G Road, Bangalore - 560 002. Also, submit a copy of the Statement to the University.

6 NSS Fee: As per letter of Karnataka State Govt., College can retain the NSS fee collected from the students. It need not send it to the University. The College must utilize the amount as per Govt. Order.

7 Indian Red Cross: In the total fee collected amount for the year w.r.t. Indian Red Cross Membership, College can retain 70%.It must utilize it for activities of Red Cross Unit of the college. And it must remit 30% to Indian Red Cross Society and submit a copy of letter to the University.

8 Women Cell: In the total collected amount, College must send 50% to University and retain 50% in the College. It must utilize the amount for women Cell activities.Moreover, it must submit Annual report of activities to the University.

With reference to the above, the University has received letters complaining that few colleges are collecting fees from parents for the reserving seats for admission to various programmes in their colleges. It may be noted that the 10+2 results of PU Board Karnataka are still awaited. Hence, institutes are informed to stop such practices which causes inconvinience to the students and parents.

The fee shall be paid online through VTU web portal and the receipt of the same shall be enclosed with the list. The fee paid shall match with the number of students.

# Indian Red Cross:

In the total fee collected amount for the year w.r.t. Indian Red Cross Membership, 70% has to be retained in the college and utilized for activities of Red Cross Unit of the college and 30% shall be remitted to Indian Red Cross Society and a copy of letter to be submitted to the University

#* Women Cell:

In the total collected amount 50% shall be sent to University and 50% shall be retained in the College and utilized for women Cell activities. Annual report of activities shall be submitted to the University.

The Principals are requested to send the list of admitted students within the specified date.

VTU Research Fees Payment last date for Phd and MSc

All the research scholars pursuing research under VTU Research Resource Centre are hereby informed to pay the fees on or before 20th June 2017 as per the revised fee structure given below:

VTU or Visvesvaraya Technological University has 194 colleges and offers 28 disciplines in varied undergraduate courses. Also, it offers 71 disciplines in post graduate studies. It offers doctoral studies in both part-time as well as a full-time option. The university is famous for a relatively different PhD course structure that it follows. The PhD programme here is split into different stages. What is different here is that, at the beginning of the II Part of the programme, which is followed by the course work in the previous part, the scholar is expected to face the comprehensive VIVA VOCE.

 This Comprehensive VIVA is slightly different from other universities and has the following details:

The scholar is expected to submit a written request for the conduct of the same within a span of maximum six months from the completion of the course work in Part I of the programme. A further extension of 6 months may be requested by the scholar with due approval of the research guide, in the case of any health related issues.

The research centre of the university has the responsibility or organising the comprehensive VIVA in consultation with the doctoral committee. It usually gets scheduled within the span of one month of the request submitted by the scholar. It is a tough closed door examination which includes the members of the doctoral committee, other than the scholar, and the research supervisor. The doctoral committee has the right to invite examiners also if the research guide has recommended any specialist or expert in the area of study.

The scholar is expected to prepare a presentation on the research topic. It should include in detail the work done so far, and what is the proposed work for the future. The intention of the doctoral committee is to verify and ensure that the scholar is through with the fundamental concepts, and also has the know how to apply the knowledge for the smooth conduct of the research work.

You got to be prepared and thorough at tackling the comprehensive VIVA. Be very particular about having a good study on the existing literature in your area of study. Particularly the one that has been taken up in the past 3 years as this is where the new trends could be understood. You must also know where your study fits in to fill the gap that has been created by previous studies. Your research methodology should be elaborate and simplified to the extent that each stage should smoothly graduate to the next one. Have the justification ready for your chosen research tools and techniques as well.
