15 Most Badass Monologues In Video Game History

"Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?"

good speech for video games

Cinema has long been the go-to medium that everyone would look to for legendary monologues, and you'd expect no less from something that's been around for over 100 years. However, ever since video games evolved from blips and bloops and made cinematic storytelling possible, they've been brimming with memorable speeches that cause tingles to go up your spine, engraining themselves into your collective subconscious in the process.

Whether they spur us on into last stand battles, mockingly introduce us to ruined worlds or make us rethink everything we've done in the game up to that point, video game speeches have a unique relationship with the player.

What gives them their power is the fact that they're addressing you directly, pulling you in on a personal level and inviting you to react and respond to them - be it with your gun, your own dialogue options, or simply by playing the narrative laid out for you. A great video game monologue affects us in a way that no other medium ever will, and these are the greatest ones that will stuck with you forever.

Gamer, Researcher of strange things. I'm a writer-editor hybrid whose writings on video games, technology and movies can be found across the internet. I've even ventured into the realm of current affairs on occasion but, unable to face reality, have retreated into expatiating on things on screens instead.

The Top 5 Video Game Speeches of This Generation

As a major medium of the spoken word, speeches have played a role in some of gaming's greatest scenes. This generation is no exception. Which spiels from the period have we enjoyed the most?

Video games have been speaking to us ever since 1980, when arcade and Atari titles like Bezerk began synthesizing robotic voices - hashing out grainy one-liners of instruction and inspiration. These audio endeavors soon materialized into real-life voice acting, and before long extended dialogue sequences were a presentational staple, cinematic cutscenes were commonplace, and riveting characters began uttering riveting speeches and monologues. Conversing became immersing.

As facial animation and visual realism grows ever stronger, and the voice-acting talent pool ever fuller, the art of the video game speech has reached its highest state yet in this generation.

Which moments made our top 5? Read on to find out.

[ SPOILER WARNING] Massive spoilers to the endings of BioShock and Metal Gear Solid 4 are found within pages 4 and 6, respectively. Click with caution .

Mass Effect - Kirrahe Holds the Line

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXLVFnl3WcE

Sharp. Precise. Invoking but to-the-point. In little more than a minute, Captain Kirrahe gets his band of Salarian brothers ready for a suicide mission long before Mass Effect 2 rewrote the definition. Sure, objective completion and intuitive thinking might save the Captain a smattering of his men, but individually, these sons of the 3rd Infiltration Regiment STG are fully devoted to the notion that this, here on Virmire, is their final hour. For many, it will be.

Without the leadership of Kirrahe (who’s appropriately named after a mountain used to prepare U.S. paratroopers for D-Day ) Shepard’s mission never would have had a chance. Saren — the Reapers — would reign supreme.

But not this day. With a swift salvo of rhetoric, a timely thunder clap from the God of Punctuation, one of the more resonant moments in Mass Effect makes it mark. And the line is held.

Killzone 2 - Visari Readies for Bloodshed

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c2tX0Tdp-Q

Warmongering diatribes are a hallmark of the Visari administration - if Killzone provides an accurate account of it. Though played through the eyes of his enemies (AKA the good guys), each game in the series has opened to the pater familias of the Helghan Empire inciting his catechized corps of Helghast troops to the cause of ISA annihilation. With the walls closing in at the introduction of Killzone 2 , Scolar Visari spins his masterpiece: the “hold the line” speech every dictator dreams of.

Rico’s irritable avoidance of Visari’s stern warning even seeds the interlude sequence with a small touch of foreshadowing: The ISA have no idea what’s waiting on the planet Helghan, and the bloody montage that ensues when the speech concludes proves that this man means every word. It’s all the welcome back a Killzone 1 fan could have asked for.

BioShock — Confronting Andrew Ryan

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14pQ5B0iTUs

It’s one of the moments that defined the first BioShock : the haunting pre-mortem soliloquy of Andrew Ryan.

Here was a man who so despised Altruism — he believed every man was “entitled to the sweat of his own brow” — that he rejected the social hierarchies of sea-level civilization to construct his own metropolis, Rapture, leagues-deep in the middle of the Atlantic. He convinced society’s finest minds — doctors, scientists, entrepreneurial geniuses — to join him, and together they forged a thriving cultural mecca. At least, that’s how it began.

This Utopian ambition is introduced to us in an opening monologue that’s spectacular on its own — but even more powerful is our first/final live encounter with Ryan, after his dream has crumbled into pieces. It is at this moment when we witness his life’s cruel irony: a man of such Altruism animus, initiating his own death when it will only save others — Jack; Dr. Tenenbaum; the Little Sisters, if they’re alive — hollow objects of welfare, now, with his real love, the fruit of his labor, spoiling into decay.

But the speech isn’t memorable for its deadly swings of fate (if of golf clubs). In the end, we look back on Andrew Ryan’s death the way we do his life. In the end, he chose; a man, not a slave.

Gears of War 2 - Prescott Brings the Fight to the Locust

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m55z6O5Qlc

There are no would-you-kindly’s in Gears of War ; it’s a rarity when orders and observations aren’t grunted through teeth, laced with profanities or giddy about the amount of viscera splashing around at any given moment. But when the series does try to step away from its traditional bawdy bounds, when it overthrows action for emotion, poignancy, and carefully scripted drama, occasionally it will hit the mark surprisingly well.

Case in point: At the beginning of Gears of War 2 , with the COG haven of Jacinto on the verge of Locust annihilation, the Honorable Chairman Richard Prescott puts the entire human race on his shoulders and commemorates the first day Sera takes the fight to its underworld invaders in riveting fashion. He’s a windbreaker and walkie-talkie away from jumping in a King Raven and personally leading the assault.

The COG leader is described better as enigmatic than charismatic, and is scantly depicted as endearing throughout the main Gears trilogy. The gravity of the situation brings out his best, however, and while Prescott may not seem the ideal rallying symbol to motivate his army and the audience, both are left ravenous by the time he’s finished.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - Big Boss' Parting Words

Sometimes, the best speeches are those that don’t require a pulpit or a megaphone. When an organic moment between two or more readily-oratory participants suddenly produces a one-way conversation: one person gets on a roll — musing, brooding, eulogizing, ranting — and everyone else realizes it’s best to shut up and listen… and standby for cigar service, if necessary.

Big Boss closes out Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots with one such speech, the final reflections of an illustrious life silencing his last-living son, Solid Snake, into the role of a graceful bystander. The FOXHOUND founder formerly known as Naked Snake bears all (metaphorically speaking). Reflecting on exploits decades-past, appealing for recompense long-overdue, and dreaming about a future era that’s fast-approaching — it’s Hideo Kojima’s way of passing the torch to the next generation (be it the rapidly-ripened Snake or a completely different tangent — we’ll know when Metal Gear Solid 5 is revealed ) whilst tactfully closing the encyclopedia on the past. Furthermore, this being the work of said director, there almost has to be some sort of symbolism, some foreshadowing clue hidden with the patchwork of those white annual flowers. We won’t attempt to decode Kojima here, but it’s one of many reasons we keep returning to some of his finest work.

From a Salarian captain in Mass Effect to a business magnate in BioShock to a warrior politician in Gears of War , video games have shown how speeches can thrill - and also kill; an autocratic dictator in Killzone can revel in a bloody conflict while a lifelong solider in Metal Gear Solid sheds away its memory.

But even as the five speeches here are a testament to modern gaming’s ever-growing emotional spectrum, it’s important to remember their debt of gratitude to the moments of speaking splendor of generations gone by: the Metal Gear Solid’s, the Half-Life’s and so many more.

And as for the honorable mentions — that’s up to you. What other speeches deserve recognition? Which do you find inspirational? Which exciting, provoking, or eliciting of tears? Feel free to share in the comments below.

Seven Most Influential Speeches In Video Games

Posted By Shubhankar Parijat | On 20th, Dec. 2010

good speech for video games

Dialogues are a very vital part of any visual media of entertainment, which means video games as well. And the stronger and well-written the dialogues are, the better the story of the game turns out to be. It is believed by many that dialogues are the very backbone of any story, because if the dialogues fall flat, so does the entire narrative, for they are what drive the entire flow forward, lead one thing to the other.

Video games are no different in this aspect, especially the ones these days, what with them having so heavy and complex stories. And with strong speeches showered between regular intervals, a game can truly outshine its competition- if, of course, the speeches are well written and delivered.

Here is out list of the seven best speeches we have come across in games. These, we feel, were delivered and written nigh-perfectly, and provided for a few minutes of sheer awe and joy. Enjoy the list!

Remember, these speeches have been ranked and listed in no particular order.

Solid Snake- War Has Changed (Metal Gear Solid 4)

War has changed. It’s no longer about nations, ideologies, or ethnicity. It’s an endless series of proxy battles fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons, use ID-tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control… All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield… controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control… War becomes routine.

Solid Snake is a great speaker, perhaps one of the best we have seen in any game, and he was probably at his peak in Metal Gear Solid 4. The very opening scene of MGS4 started off with a bang, as Solid Snake went on about how war has become much more complex and deep than it originally was. And with Kojima’s superb direction, the intro scene feels like nothing but a movie.

Visari- Defenders Of The Helghast Dream, Now Is Our Time (Killzone)

My people, sons and daughters of Helghan. For many years we have been a broken nation- shunned, oppressed and conquered by those we sought to escape. Days ago, I asked for time, and that time was granted by you. You, the strength in my arm, the holders of my dreams. Our forefathers embarked on the greatest exodus in the history of all mankind. An exodus for freedom. Helghan became that freedom. Our new world changed our bodies. At first, it weakened us. But in fact, we were growing stronger. In the time you have given me, I have rebuilt our nation. I have rebuilt our strength. And I have rebuilt our pride. Our enemies at home have been re-educated. We have given them new insights into our cause. On this day, we stand united once more. On this day, those driven to divide us will hear our voice. On this day, we shall act as one, and we shall be ignored no more. Defenders of the Helghast dream, now is our time.

The opening, and the best, few minutes of Killzone. Scolar Visari is a genius- that much can be figured out upon hearing his awesome speeches. And like the analogies that are drawn quite a lot of time not just in the game, but even on the forums, he was much like Adolf Hitler- a misguided genius. And yet, upon hearing Visari speak, we almost start believing him, start sympathizing with him. We start believing in the Helghan dream. That is how good a speaker he is- was. May he rest in peace.

Chairman Prescott- Humans Are No Strangers To War (Gears of War 2)

Humans are no strangers to war. After all, we’ve been fighting for as long as we can remember. War is all we know. In the past, we fought for emulsion. We fought for country. We fought for freedom. But all that changed after E-Day. For fifteen years, we have been fighting for our very survival against inhuman, genocidal monsters. But it is a fight we cannot continue. Humanity faces extinction, unless we end this war now. We had hoped the Lightmass bombing would decimate the Locust Horde, but they survived… and have returned stronger than ever. They’ve brought with them a force that can sink entire cities. Even Jacinto, our last beacon of hope through all these dark days, is now at risk. Soon, we’ll have nothing left to defend. And that means, we have only one option… attack. Gears, what I ask of you now is not an easy thing, but it is necessary. If we are to survive, if we are to live long enough to see the seasons pass, our children grow, and experience a time of peace that we have never known, we must now take this fight to the Locust. We will go to where they live and where they breed, and we will destroy them. This is the day we take the battle to the heart of the enemy. This is the day that we correct the course of human history. This is the day we ensure our survival as a species. Soldiers of the COG, my fellow Gears, go forth and bring back the hope of humanity.

Gears of War 2 is, according to many people, not half of what the original Gears was, but an epic storyline, presented through brilliantly directed cutscenes, make it an awesome game. And with a speech to boot at the very beginning, it becomes completely unforgettable. Chairman Prescott motivates his people to take one final stand against the Locust as their final hope, or all life would diminish, until the human race is completely eradicated, and these “genocidal” aliens take over.

7 talks on the benefits of gaming

[ted id=1618]

This weekend, hundreds of video games enthusiasts lined up in the cold, waiting 12 hours-plus to be the first to get their hands on Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U. And when the game  Call of Duty: Black Ops was released in 2010, gamers around the world played it for more than 600 million hours in just the first 45 days. That is the equivalent of 68 years.

While some people worry about the popularity of video games, in today’s talk, brain scientist Daphne Bavelier suggests that gaming may be far more beneficial than we think (in moderation) — even if the game is all about shooting up the enemy.

“Most of you have thought, ‘Come on, can’t you do something more productive than shooting zombies?’ I’d like you to put this knee-jerk reaction in the context of how you’d feel if you found your girl playing Soduku,” Bavelier says. “In reasonable doses, action-packed shooter games have quite powerful positive effects on many different aspects of our behavior.”

In the lab, Bavelier and her team measure the impact of gameplay on the brain. While your mom might have told you that staring at screens will wreck your eyes, Bavelier’s lab actually found that playing 5 to 15 hours a week of video games correlates with better vision — and the ability to see more detail in the context of clutter.

It’s another common trope that gaming causes attention problems. However, Bavelier shows data that people who play video games are better able to keep track of objects around them — while the average person can track three objects effectively, video gamers can track six to seven objects. They’re also better able to multitask in general.

Initial studies suggest that these benefits may be trainable. In one study, Bavelier’s lab gave participants a test, and then asked them to play 10 hours of video games over a period of two weeks. When they came back for a post-test, their performance improved — and the improvement was still measurable five months later. Bavelier’s lab hopes to use these findings to create games that can improve eyesight or help keep the brains of senior citizens sharp.

To hear more about Bavelier’s studies, watch her talk . And after the jump, six other talks that suggest video games may simply have a bad reputation.

Jane McGonigal: Gaming can make a better world Video game designer Jane McGonigal is deeply inspired by video games like World of Warcraft — because they call on players to become heroes and save worlds.  In this blockbuster talk from TED2010, she shares why she thinks it’s possible to harness the power of gaming to solve real-world problems like hunger, poverty, climate change and war.

Gabe Zichermann: How games make kids smarter Gabe Zichermann wishes that we could channel the era of Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? —when students, parents and teachers agreed that video games were great. In this talk from TEDxKids@Brussels, Zichermann suggests that video games make kids better at problem-solving and multitasking, and should be championed rather than villainized.

Ali Carr-Chellman: Gaming to re-engage boys in learning Many boys are having a hard time in school—they’re disproportionally suspended, marked as learning disabled, and diagnosed with ADHD. In this talk from TEDxPSU, Ali Carr-Chellman ponders whether this could be a simple culture clash. She shares a fascinating idea — that creating educational video games full of rich narratives could help boy culture connect with school culture.

Tom Chatfield: 7 ways games reward the brain Video games are transfixing, says Tom Chatfield at TEDGlobal 2010. Why? Because they offer emotional rewards and satisfy our ambitions. In this talk, he wonders if other tasks — for example, going green or losing weight — could be made fun by emulating the brilliance of game design.

[ted id=1501]

Jane McGonigal: The game that can give you 10 extra years of life After a severe concussion, Jane McGonigal found herself on mandatory bedrest and feeling deeply depressed. In this talk from TEDGlobal 2012, she shares how she found her way out of a downward spiral — by creating a video game, SuperBetter , that helps people heal. ( Check out the TED Blog post: 10 online games … with a social purpose .)

[ted id=361]

David Perry: Are games better than life? Speaking in 2006, game designer David Perry says we’re at an interesting moment in video game history—where graphics and audio have gotten extremely lifelike. Which means that the next generation (meaning: now) could have games that actually surpass real life. While Perry is excited for what’s to come, he points out that video game makers have a big responsibility given their influence and reach, and hopes that his industry will rise to the challenge. What do you think: Has it?

Regular visitors of  With a Terrible Fate  may recall that, last February, I delivered a speech as part of the Lowell House Speech Series at Harvard University. In it, I discussed my decision to pursue the study of video game philosophy instead of medicine. This year, on 1.26.16, I delivered another speech as part of that same Speech Series; in it, I discuss why video games are worth playing and studying at any age.

I offer the transcript below, in full:

What are video games good for? I study the stories of video games, so I worry about that question a lot. I want to share one way I think the special stories of video games, and the way we engage them, teach gamers to learn from one another.

We often try to communicate with one another by referencing our experiences. We argue about aspects of society that offend us; we talk about aspects of our identities that other people lack direct knowledge of – if you are a woman and feel that your employer treats female employees worse than men, you might want me to understand what that is like, although I am a man. We want to convey to others what it is like to be us – but how can we, when others have no way of standing in our shoes?

Video games can help us share who we are. Let me explain why.

When I was in high school, I played a little-known video game called “ Nier .” The game tells the story of a man, Nier, who will stop at nothing to save his daughter, Yonah, from a deadly plague. The emotional depth and complexity of this game were what first motivated me to study and analyze video games in school. If you haven’t yet, you owe it to yourself to play it some day.

At the same time that I dove into analyzing Nier , I also felt compelled to share the game with two of my closest high school friends, Dan and Nate. Just as I wanted everyone I knew to read The Catcher in the Rye after I first encountered the classic in middle school, I now wanted Dan and Nate to experience this game. One after the other, I passed my copy of the game along to Dan and then Nate in the hall between classes.

But when I spoke with them both after they handed the game back to me, I discovered something I hadn’t expected: although they had played the same game as I had, we each made different choices in the game—something that couldn’t have happened if we’d all seen the same movie or read the same book. I had focused on exploring the secrets of the game’s world, digging through virtual basements for classified government records to learn what had caused the apocalypse. Dan focused instead on exploring the relationship between Nier—the player’s character—and Yonah. He completed quests collecting food for Yonah, and she surprised him by making him a cake to thank him. Nate found the desolate wasteland of the game depressing, so he completed it once and moved on.

As I discussed Nier with my friends over lunches and in between classes, I learned about my friends and myself through the choices that we each made. We talked about how a single story prompted us to act differently from one another, and we accounted for our actions. Through these conversations, I learned how much Dan valued the intimacy fathers share with their daughters; I learned that Nate wanted to be excited about the environments of video game worlds, so that he could jump at the opportunity to explore them. Through these conversations, I began to articulate to my friends my desire to unravel mysteries.

Video games allow players to share their experiences with one another by grounding them in a common story. Games invite players to enter a single world, chart their own course through it, and compare their journeys with their friends. By giving us a special position in an artistic world, our choices become part of the work of art—something we can discuss and make meaning out of with others.

When I think about video games’ practical value, I always reflect on the degree to which they can unify people and allow them to understand and share their way of being. This invitation to share ourselves with others is the hidden utility of the engaging, epic stories waiting in the many worlds of video games.

But be warned, it can take a lot of work to get to know someone else—so you may just need to spend many hours playing video games.

Voice overs for video games

Table of contents.

How do you set up voice overs for video games? Are professional actors your only option? Find out in this article.

Game developers perform a variety of tasks when working on a new release, from world building and rendering to motion capture and sound effects. All of which involves advanced equipment that costs thousands of dollars.

However, you don’t have access to the same resources as video game industry giants. You might be an indie developer working on a small project who thinks your budget is too low for voice over work.

Thankfully, there are some affordable voice over options out there. This article will explore them.

Why are video game voiceovers important?

Video game voice over jobs are highly desirable. Many people apply for open positions because developers and casting directors pay professional new voices large amounts to elevate their games.

Here’s how video game voice acting can be beneficial.

Improve immersion for gamers

The more engrossed people are in a video game, the more likely they are to keep playing it. High-quality dubbing is a great way to make your video games more immersive. By conveying proper emotions and interacting naturally, the  characters  keep the user engaged.

Make character interactions more realistic

Even though most video games focus on excellent background music and action scenes, gamers also appreciate good character voices. If they sound like real people, users rarely skip the cut scenes. Instead, they enjoy the conversations because they add a new layer to the gameplay.

Create a more professional product

Whether you’re working on a virtual reality or standard game, you want your project to be professional. Voice overs are perfect for this purpose. They show players you’ve taken the time to pick talented voice actors or use compelling AI-generated voices to optimize your title.

Your options for voicing your video game characters

There are many methods of adding voice overs to your game project.

Professional video game voice actors

The most significant benefit of hiring professional voice actors is that they’re most likely to deliver a natural performance. After all, you’re recruiting real-life people for the job, so the chances of  robotic  conversations are minimal.

That said, there are a few downsides of this solution, like the cost. Many can charge well over $1,000 for just a few hours of their time.

Another disadvantage of hiring voice actors is that you must be thorough during the selection process, which can take a lot of time. Cold reads and other testing methods may also require you to buy specialized equipment in your home studio or professional recording studio.

Additionally, some voice actors are only good when filming in front of a camera. They rely on facial expressions to deliver a compelling performance, which isn’t available in your case. This can further delay the casting process.

Another option for incorporating voice overs is to record yourself. The DIY route is relatively affordable, as you don’t have to pay others for your project. You may also connect with the characters better because you wrote them.

As for the drawbacks, keep in mind that the method is only relatively affordable. There are no recruitment expenses, but you’ll need to invest in microphones, headphones, and other equipment.

There are many other problems associated with this option. For instance, you might struggle to synchronize your voice with character motions if you’re inexperienced. Finally, importing the audio to your editing software may be time-consuming if you have poorly optimized apps.

Freelancer voice actors

In addition to partnering with full-time voice actors or shooting a DIY recording session, you can also hire freelance voice actors. Many platforms allow you to contact and book freelance talent, but Fiverr is the most popular choice.

As the largest digital service marketplace, it offers a streamlined way to pay others for voice overs. Gigs are Fiverr’s term for these digital services.

There are several advantages of booking freelance voice overs using this software. Primarily, thousands of actors offer their services, resulting in competitive pricing. Plus, the website’s intuitive interface makes for seamless collaboration.

On the other hand, you might have trouble finding the right talent. You can focus on artists with five-star ratings only, but these might be too expensive. Other options may offer low-quality services and lack appropriate recording booths and other equipment.

Speechify Voiceover

It’s sometimes hard to distinguish  AI-generated voices  from those produced by real-life individuals. That’s exactly the case with Speeechify Voiceover. This  text to speech  (TTS) platform has robust voice over capabilities to take your video games to the next level.

For example, you can choose from hundreds of natural-sounding voices in different languages. Whether you’re shooting for a Spanish or Arabic audience, Speechify won’t let you down.

Another impressive feature of the best voice over software is the ease of use. You need only enter or paste your  text  into the field and press the Play button. From there, you can customize the audio by playing with the volume, pitch, and accents.

Once you’re done, you can download your demo reels or podcasts for offline listening or social media sharing. And you won’t have to pay a dime because Speechify has a free trial.

Online Games Good or Bad Speech

Online Gaming is a new fad amongst all age groups today especially amongst teenagers which has its own advantages and disadvantages. Online Games Good or Bad Speech is among the ASL Topics and we have composed two sample speeches that can help you prepare for your English assessment.

Online Game: Good Or Bad Speech Sample 1 [400-500 words]

Good morning everyone! I am ABC and today I stand before you to present an insightful and informative speech on whether Online games are good or bad? Online gaming is a double-edged sword that has its own share of merits and demerits. Post pandemic most of our life has become virtual and hence, being completely cut off from online gaming is impossible and even if possible, it will do more harm than good as children and teenagers will be deprived of leisure. Coming on to the bright side of online gaming, there are a plethora of benefits of online gaming as they hone our Analytical thinking, inculcate the importance of Goal-oriented Behaviour as a lot of online Games involve missions and levels which requires really good gaming skills, and online gaming makes teenagers more prudent and alert. India has witnessed a huge boom in the gaming market because the majority of our population is young, mobile phones are available at low cost, and easily available on the Internet. India is among the top 5 online mobile gaming industries and as per research which shows 30 percent of people believe playing online games enhances cognitive skills. Playing online games helps teenagers connect with their peers as most of the teenagers play online games and also if played within limits then it is a really good leisure activity. Now after exploring the merits, we will now understand the dark side of online Gaming. Playing excessive online games reduces our interest in other important activities like academics, outdoor sports. Moreover, all day of sitting and playing online games is detrimental for physical and mental health. Also at times, kids can download games from unsafe sources which may bring viruses to their mobile phone or PC. Also, these games are highly addictive in nature which not only distorts focus but also inhibits delayed gratification among children. Playing action games frequently makes children impulsive and aggressive. The research found that gaming addiction is correlated with low-self esteem, negative beliefs about one’s self, and poor social relationships. Be careful while playing online games, as the most attractive game can be the biggest distraction that can hinder you from achieving your goals and dreams. Now after taking both merits and demerits of online gaming into consideration it is safe to say that online games are beneficial as well as harmful depending completely on us whether we allow these games to overpower our willpower or not. Otherwise if played in limit playing games can be a rewarding experience as well.

Online Game: Good Or Bad Speech Sample 2 [200-300 Words]

Good morning everyone! I am ABC and today I stand before you to present an insightful and informative speech on Online games: good or bad? Just like a coin, online gaming has two sides that must be understood comprehensively. First, we will explore the bright side of online gaming and some of the benefits of online gaming can’t be ignored as it helps us in improving our critical thinking skills as games with tough missions and levels require us to think critically, encourage out of the box and solution-oriented manner of thinking as some missions in a particular game may require spontaneity and smartness in order to crack those missions. Also if played within limits, online gaming, especially with friends, can be a rewarding experience indeed after a tiresome and hectic day at work or College and it improves the presence of mind and alertness. Now further, let’s explore the dark side of online gaming. Some of its demerits are that it takes up a lot of our time, if we get addicted to it and it also deviates us from our main goals and work. Playing violent and action games can definitely instill violence and aggression in our behavior. Thus, we must be cautious of online gaming and play these games within the limit as playing them excessively can hinder our social relationships and affect our health. After taking both the pros and cons of online gaming into account, it is advisable to play online games but only within a limit so that it does not overpower our willpower.

The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from March 2024

Stephan adamus, 3 up, 3 down – march 2024.

March 2024 ended up being kind of a strange month for video game reviews. There were lots of high profile releases, but nothing scored especially high or low. Everything seemed to side in the 65-85 range. But with some major releases, a score in the 80s can seem like a disappointment. There were a few disappointments in that sense: games that were good, but not truly great. With all that being said, here are The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from March 2024:

Balatro is the biggest surprise in COGconnected’s Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from March 2024. It’s the only game from the entire month that score in the 90s. It’s a deck-building game, based on Poker. The gameplay is incredibly addictive. Our reviewer’s only complaint is they wished the graphics were sharper. They admitted “I’m not much of a poker or deck builder player, but I find the combination of the two irresistible.” Balatro is a must-play for people who normally aren’t fans of card games.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 scored a lot better than the original game in the series. The original game didn’t score great because of its below average performance. But over time, players discovered how fun Dragon’s Dogma’s gameplay was. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is more of an update than a sequel, and still makes some odd choices. But its open exploration, epic boss battles, and pawn systems are really fantastic. Our reviewer concluded “the rewards are rich, singular, and utterly immersive in ways that have rarely been seen in the genre”. Just be ready to embrace Dragon’s Dogma 2’s unique choices.

WWE 2K24 is another major sequel that played it safe, and scored in the 80s. We could have picked from several games for this third position on The Three Best (and Worst) Video Games from March 2024, but WWE 2K24 has a lot of people excited. It sticks to WWE 2K23’s formula, but updates the roster and adds an excellent WrestleMania-themed campaign. Our reviewer concluded “Each thoughtful tweak and refinement improves the gameplay to faithfully replicate the television experience”. Overall, WWE 2K24 is the best game in the long-running WWE 2K series yet.

Controversial late-game foul against UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards draws ire: ‘I wasn’t given an explanation’

CLEVELAND, OHIO - APRIL 5: Aaliyah Edwards #3 of the UConn Huskies celebrates against the Iowa Hawkeyes during the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament Final Four semifinal game at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on April 5, 2024 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by C. Morgan Engel/NCAA Photos via Getty Images)

In Friday night’s Final Four, UConn trailed Iowa 70-64 with 2:14 to play, a chance at returning to the national title game to face South Carolina dwindling. But the Huskies rallied with two stops and two scores. When KK Arnold stole the ball with nine seconds to play, UConn was down just one with a shot for the win.

Instead, the Huskies never took that shot. After a UConn timeout, Aaliyah Edwards set a pick on the wing for Paige Bueckers to fly off and potentially take the game-winning jumper, but Edwards was whistled for a moving screen with 3.9 seconds left. The turnover gave the Hawkeyes the ball back on their side of the court, and the Huskies would never regain possession, losing 71-69.

“I wasn’t given an explanation,” Edwards said after the loss. “There was no real time to get an explanation. From my point of view, it was pretty clean.”

UConn coach Geno Auriemma and the Huskies bench were immediately distraught, and social media erupted in their defense. Stars from the WNBA and NBA insisted a referee could not make a call of that magnitude so late in the game, relying on the truism that a certain amount of contact has to be allowed down the stretch.

NAAAAAHHHHHH!!! I ain’t rolling with that call. — LeBron James (@KingJames) April 6, 2024
To call that on a game deciding play is so wrong WOW — Kelsey Plum (@Kelseyplum10) April 6, 2024

In a season that has shone an unflattering spotlight on women’s college basketball referees, many fans and basketball insiders have complained the quality of officiating has not risen to the level of the play on the court. And this was another indication the referees couldn’t meet the moment.

Nevertheless, regardless of the stakes of the call — that Edwards’ college career ended on a moving screen — the reasoning behind the referee’s decision is plausible. Edwards’ legs are outside her shoulders, and she’s leaning to her left as Gabbie Marshall runs through. It’s a call that wouldn’t have drawn much ire in the first quarter.

In the fourth quarter, however, fans would have preferred to see the players decide the game rather than the referees. But in effect, Edwards did.

Dawn Staley Broke Down in Tears in Emotional Postgame Interview After South Carolina’s Title Win Over Iowa

  • Author: Kristen Wong

In this story:

The women’s NCAA tournament wrapped up on Sunday with a fairytale ending for Dawn Staley and the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks , who beat the Iowa Hawkeyes, 87—75, to secure its third national title in school history and become the 10th undefeated champion in Division I history.

After the final whistle, Staley struggled to find the words to describe what she was feeling and needed a minute to compose herself. In the postgame interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe, the Gamecocks coach teared up on camera and appeared to be completely overwhelmed with emotions.

“I’m so proud, so proud,” Staley told Rowe. “I am so incredibly happy for our players. It doesn’t always end like you want it to end, much like last year… I’m just super proud of where I work, I’m super proud of our fans. It’s awesome. It’s unbelievable.”

Dawn Staley was very emotional in an interview with ESPN on ABC's Holly Rowe after South Carolina won the National Championship. 🏀🏆 pic.twitter.com/Pk7JmutV1D — Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) April 7, 2024

This past season, Staley’s Gamecocks bulldozed their way to a perfect 38-0 record one year after falling short to Iowa in the Final Four. Despite trailing Iowa by as many as 11 points in the first quarter, South Carolina avenged last year’s semifinals loss with an all-around dominant performance in which four players recorded double figures; freshman Tessa Johnson led the way with 19 points while star center Kamilla Cardoso had 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Staley, the AP Coach of the Year, now boasts a 109—3 record in her last three seasons at South Carolina and becomes the fifth coach to win three championships, joining Geno Auriemma, Pat Summitt, Kim Mulkey and Tara VanDerveer.

“You have to let young people be who they are,” continued Staley. “But you also have to guide them and help navigate them. When young people lock in and have a belief and have a trust, and their parents have that same trust, this is what can happen. They made history. They etched their names into history books.”

After NCAA title win, Dawn Staley spoke about her faith. It's nothing new for SC coach.

good speech for video games

South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley , seconds after completing a perfect 38-0 season to win her second NCAA championship in three seasons and third overall , doubled over and broke down during an on-court interview as she tried to celebrate her Christian faith.

Eventually, she composed herself and got the words out.

"We serve an unbelievable God — we serve an unbelievable God," Staley eventually told ESPN's Holly Rowe . "Uncommon favor, unbelievable. So proud, I'm so proud."

Staley would also take the time to thank and praise her players, assistants and support staff. But, before the brief interview would end, Staley would once again return to religion.

"God is funny like that, He is funny," Staley added later. "He rips your heart and He makes you believe. He makes you believe the unimaginable. Thank you, Jesus, thank you."

Staley has talked about her faith after other big moments

This is not new for Staley, nor is it uncommon for coaches and players across all sports to praise God moments after victories; Staley has been outspoken about her faith, repeatedly attributing it to her successes as a player and coach. But it has also become a source of pushback and controversy for some, with critics suggesting that she is pushing advocacy and pressing her beliefs onto others.

On March 31, which was Easter Sunday, the Gamecocks prevailed over Oregon State in a 70-58 victory that advanced South Carolina to the Final Four. Interviewed on the court after the victory, Staley took the time to praise God.

"He's really funny," Staley said then. "The devastating loss that we had last year, to put us back here on a totally different team — if you don't believe in God, something's wrong with you, seriously. I'm a believer. I'm a believer because He makes things come true. When you're at your worst, He's at his best."

Critics, including a faction on social media , pointed out that there are almost certainly faithful believers on losing teams whose hopes are dashed in defeat . Others felt that Staley's comments minimized the hard work and achievements of her players. Staley's outspoken expression of her faith has even led to questions about potential violations of her players' religious freedoms under the First Amendment.

An article published by the Daily Beast exploring the issue quoted Annie Laurie Gaylor, co-president of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, saying that Staley "appears to have no boundaries when it comes to pushing religion on a captive audience of students dying to please her."

Opponents to Staley's open expression have also argued that nonreligious students or players may feel uncomfortable when faced with Staley's open praise of Christianity.

Staley: 'I'm not here to offend anybody'

Staley does appear to be aware of some of the pushback. On March 31, hours after the victory over Oregon State, Staley posted a message on social media alluding to her "something's wrong with you" comments, saying she was "not ashamed to praise" God.

She also responded to those criticisms a few days later, after she won the 2024 Naismith Coach of the Year award.

"I said, 'If you don't know there's a God then something's wrong with you' —  if I said, 'If you don't watch women's basketball, something's seriously wrong with you,' would you take it as threatening as somebody took the other one?" Staley told FOX Carolina News April 3. "I mean, it's a figure of speech. If you can't comprehend that, then tune me out. Tune me out. I'm not here to offend anybody. ...

"I'm not going to apologize for what I said and what I feel because I know my life and I know why things have happened in my life and I'm going to salute God as much as I can because I know it's not just my doing."

There are also plenty of people on the other side , people who support Staley's open celebration of her faith . Some have suggested Staley is facing a double standard not applied to male coaches, in particular to football coaches like Clemson's Dabo Swinney , who is similarly outspoken about his faith .

In December 2022, Swinney infamously said during a press conference that Clemson "built this program in God's name, image and likeness," referencing the influx of NIL deals exploding in college sports.

Staley, 53, played college basketball at Virginia and was a five-time WNBA All-Star, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and was enshrined into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, in the class of 2013. She has coached at South Carolina 16 seasons and has compiled a 440-106 (.806) record in that span, including a 109-3 (.973) mark over the past three seasons.
