#Home Movie Review: An eminently comforting film with relatable characters
Rating: ( 3.5 / 5).
There is a scene in #Home where Indrans is sitting inside a restaurant separated from the relatively younger and 'cooler' members of his family. I once happened to see the exact real-life version of this scene when I went to a restaurant alone. This father was seated in front of me -- because my table had only one person -- while his son, wife, and kids occupied a different table. Indrans' character, Oliver Twist, reminded me of him. They couldn't have picked a better actor to play him.
Director: Rojin Thomas Cast: Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen, Manju Pillai, Kainakary Thankaraj Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video
Like the father in the above anecdote, the actor can convey volumes without saying anything. You can tell what he is thinking by simply looking at his face. Each member of the film's central family -- Kainakary Thankaraj as the grandfather; Indrans, the father; Manju Pillai, the mother; and Sreenath Basi and Naslen as their sons Anthony and Charles, respectively -- seems to experience this alienation to a certain degree. They seem to exist in separate compartments while living under the same roof.
When we meet Anthony, he is a filmmaker with a single film to his name, leading a disorderly existence. He has been struggling to complete the climax of his second film. The producer (Maniyanpilla Raju) is growing impatient by the day. The latter suggests that he write the last act in the same place where he wrote his successful debut. It's a nice segue to the film's title. Is a chaotic, messy lifestyle with your loved ones better than the same with yourself? #Home seeks to answer this question while addressing a lot of other things.
#Home is not so much an English Vinglish -style story of a person trying to learn about something as a document of a fictitious family, told like an epic (duration: 160 mins). I loved how the film gives equal space to every character and takes its time to bring out their peculiar characteristics. It packs so many relatable Indian moments: the mother trying to wake her son up by increasing the fan's speed; the same lazy son not bothering to put back all the teacups; and the two sons occasionally peeping inside the refrigerator because, as one of them says, "It's a habit, just like checking the phone all the time." Before I sat down to write this review, I came across at least four people who told me they saw themselves or their parents in these characters. For instance, Oliver notes down everything he learns about social media apps in a diary. My mother does that. If she saw this film, I'm sure she would be pointing to this scene like Leonardo DiCaprio in that meme. And Sreenath Bhasi's Anthony represents a multitude of young Indian men forced to detach themselves for the sake of work. Anthony is not the 'bad guy' here; his plight is perfectly understandable if you have experienced/are experiencing the same.
Yes, on the surface, #Home appears to be a story of a man trying to fill the emotional void caused by the technological divide and generational gap. But it's also, primarily, an emotionally overpowering story of self-acceptance. You could call it the 'coming-of-age' of a man in his 60s, triggered by a particular incident that becomes a major cause of embarrassment for Anthony, the filmmaker, and guilt for Oliver. It's a relief to see Indrans not play him too seriously. Oliver is, after all, someone who doesn't make a huge deal about all the conflicts he encounters. He has a sense of humour, and in some cases, he is not even trying to invoke laughter. It just happens organically, and who better than an actor blessed with an incredible flair for comedy. One of my favourite moments in the film has Anthony approaching a superstar named Vishal (Anoop Menon) to pitch his script, and he sees that the former has taken a liking to Oliver instead of him. Another wonderfully comical moment has Oliver accompanying his best friend Suryan (Johnny Antony in another hilarious performance) to a psychologist (Vijay Babu, vibrant as usual).
I must give #Home props for using this last stretch to address India's mental health stigma. Though initially apprehensive about the thought of anyone seeking expert help, Oliver doesn't take too long to warm up to the idea and eliminate whatever misconceptions he may have - learning the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist, for instance - even when his friend remains severely sceptical. The film makes some pertinent points even when the delivery seems straight out of an awareness video at times.
However, one thing that puzzled me is the choice of music in several places. I wonder why the makers chose to overstuff the film with generic, unmemorable tunes to inform us of the emotion of each scene? Since most actors here possess the gift of subtle expression, it's awkward when each performance gets constantly underscored by a corresponding piece of music to tell us what we are supposed to feel at a given point. Isn't everything evident without the inclusion of music? Not that there is anything wrong with using it -- it's cinema, after all -- but it would've worked better in moderation for a 160-min duration film. The familiarity of some musical choices begins to wear one down after a point. Sometimes the music is as intrusive as Charles' noisy demands.
Fortunately, the film's heavily poignant ending redeems its minor shortcomings. It got me teary-eyed in a way that no other recent Malayalam film managed to do. I must thank the makers for doing a film that helps reverse, to a certain extent, the after-effects of some of the dark Malayalam thrillers released recently.

Home movie review: Indrans' Malayalam film is a charming relationship drama
Home movie review: sometimes too sweets but most times heartwarming, rojin thomas brings to life a lovely family drama that is driven by indrans' effortless performance..
Malayalam cinema is quietly making an impact with its simple stories. At a time when filmmakers are running behind stars to make pan-Indian cinema; Malayalam industry is betting its money on close-to-heart stories.
Rojin Thomas’s Home, which joins the list of recent feel-good Malayalam movies like Vikruthi and Android Kunjappan, works its magic with a simple story of a technology-challenged father, desperately trying to bond with his sons in the digital age. Home is a charming relationship drama but is too sweet at times making it slightly unbearable. However, it does leave you with a smile on your face with some lovely moments.
Watch Home trailer:
Home follows the relationship between Oliver Twist (Indrans) and his elder son Anthony Oliver Twist (Sreenath Bhasi) over a period of a few weeks. Anthony, a filmmaker basking in the success of his debut film, is struggling to write his second movie. With an ultimatum from his producer, he comes home, a place where he wrote his first script, to find some spark. Anthony’s father is over the moon to see his son back home, and his excitement knows no bounds as he goes around telling his friends about Anthony’s next project with a superstar. With constant pressure from the producer to complete the project, Anthony’s relationship with his family falls apart while his father tries his best to keep everything afloat.

What really works in the favour of Home is its simplistic storytelling. It doesn’t boast of a great storyline, but it manages to tug at heartstrings with a plot that’s peppered with some lovely moments and a heartwarming twist. The film does get needlessly long but it makes up for the length with some great performances from the lead cast. Veteran actor Indrans breathes life into the character of the father, who’s stuck between pleasing his sons and getting more comfortable with social media. Indrans makes this a great family drama with his effortless performance and the scenes between the members of the family are highly relatable. Sreenath Bhasi is equally good as the wayward filmmaker-son.
The film does touch upon sensitive themes like discussing meeting a psychologist, and how it’s not something to be ashamed about. There’s also a sub-plot about social media being both a boon and a bane. It’s a film you won’t mind recommending and it makes for a lovely watch with your family.

#Home: The heartfelt family drama that you should watch this Onam
#home movie review: amazon prime video's latest malayalam film #home beautifully captures the ironies of the highly connected world and the dying culture of person-to-person interaction..
When IBM first invented the world’s first smartphone called Simon Personal Communicator, the tech giant may have never thought the kind of monster it would become. Then, Steve Jobs came along and revolutionized mobile phones forever. The phones were no longer a mere tool to communicate; they radically changed the world and the way we perceive it. They replaced our libraries, book stores, newspapers and magazines. They turned everyone into a paparazzo and rendered photographers stationed at popular tourist spots jobless. They replaced our banks, music systems, and televisions. And more importantly, it has radically changed the way we interact with people in our personal life and social circle.
Amazon Prime Video’s latest Malayalam film #Home beautifully captures the ironies of the highly connected world and the dying culture of person-to-person interaction. The film, which is written and directed by Rojin Thomas, speaks the truth of our times. It puts in perspective how technology has brought the world closer and at the same time, drove us away from the people who matter to us the most.
Oliver Twist (played by a wonderful Indrans) is struggling to make sense of the fast-changing world. He notices that his eldest son Antony (Sreenath Bhasi) is very fond of interacting with people on the phone as opposed to talking to someone standing right next to him. Antony has been enslaved by his smartphone. So much so that as a sign of his servitude, he keeps his head always down, eyes boring into his phone. He hardly looks into the eyes of his family and friends. And when he does, he has nothing kind to say. All he feels is a strong sense of revulsion when he’s pushed to speak directly with another human being without the intermediary services of his mobile phone.
So Oliver Twist tries to learn how to operate a smartphone, hoping it would allow more ‘face time’ with his son, who lives in the next room of the same house. But, Oliver’s innocence and kindness are too fragile to survive the nasty world of the internet and social media. Things get ugly. Not for Oliver but for Antony. You can’t expect privacy at home after letting smartphones invade every aspect of your life, can you?
The hero of #Home is not a successful filmmaker, who is stuck on a creative block. Or a teenager, who is trying to become an internet celebrity. Or a successful author, who has an inspiring intellect. The hero of the film is someone who we take for granted in our lives. A man, who has done everything in his capacity to support his children’s dream and now struggles to find a respectable place at home, which he created. He is also a reminder of a generation and a period in human history when people used to value time and relationships and certain skill set like a good handwriting that would make an apology letter too good to reject.
Indrans is so natural in his role as a compassionate and forgiving father, who can’t understand why his son is afraid of his own feelings and so insecure. But, like a true hero, he never gives up on his son. He keeps his hope alive that one day, his son would stop being so harsh with him and show him some affection.
There is more to #Home than its main subject of people’s growing digital addiction. At the heart of this slice-of-life movie lies a universal drama, which unfolds in every Indian household. In a way, it is as effective a film as The Great Indian Kitchen. While the Jeo Baby directorial made patriarchal husbands squirm in their seats, #Home would do the same to cocky, egoistic and ungrateful sons, who never appreciate the contributions of their father to their life.

Movie Review | Home, where emotions have no bridles
As a tale packed with loads of warmth, Home sails smoothly leaving enough room to feel, think, fret and rejoice. Written and directed by Rojin Thomas, Home depicts the tight and loose chords of family ties.
The title suggests the milieu where the drama has been pitched in. A father, mother, their grown-up sons and an ailing grandpa make the home. The father, Oliver Twist -- a Dickensian inspiration -- is a grounded and timid human soul overwhelmed by the technological advances around him.
Meanwhile, the elder son Antony Oliver Twist, a film director who has delivered a hit in his debut movie, is a victim of his own image trap. He has to deal with a spasmodic love relation, a nagging but good at heart film producer and a looming threat of financial liabilities.
Movie Review | Indrans, Bhavana-starrer 'Rani- The Real Story' is a pacy investigative thriller
Indrans-starrer 'Jackson Bazaar Youth' is quirky, yet emotional | Movie Review
The younger son, a happy-go-lucky social media geek, is loud in expressing his feelings and maintains the 'cheer' factor in the family. Kuttiyamma, the mother, represents the anxious guardian in any household busy juggling with the chores and charting her plans for the future of her children.
The drama dwells on this filial fabric for most of the time until it veers into a different premise. The dialogues go overboard at times, but find the grip soon and chugs ahead engagingly. There are several comic gags mostly ingrained right inside the storyline, making timely flourishes.
There are some adjunct tales, latched to main plot, which remain untold, but can be surmised from gestures, adding to the beauty of the narrative. Here, Indrans excels as a man of stories who subtly carries his past without a fuss.
In essence, Home narrates the tale of human emotions pegged at different levels of age, situation, perspective and approach and the longing to breach the mind's borders to find some space. Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Manju Pillai and Nalsen K Gafoor excel in their roles.
In addition, noteworthy performance of an array of actors including Johny Antony, Vijay Babu, Srikant Murali, Shaju K S, Maniyan Pilla Raju, Anoop Menon, Kainakary Thankaraj, Deepa Thomas, Priyanka Nair, Asha Arvind, Minon, Ashlin Joseph, KPSC Lalitha lent an arresting momentum to the narrative.
The beautiful songs by Rahul Subrahmanian and brilliant visuals captured by Neil D' Cuncha blend with the emotions to form a mesmerising treat. The movie also deals with various aspects of communication gadgets and the disastrous outcomes of using them without proper knowledge. The scenes pitting the loser in the race against the winner at times make the contrast far too obvious, but the narrative blisters vanish as the bigger saga unfolds.
The story drags on occasionally, leaves gaps and gets predictable, but it has enough stunners as well to get you to the zenith of the drama. Released on Amazon Prime, Home makes for a delightful watch for a thorough entertainment for movie lovers of all groups

‘Home’ review: A heart-warming experience that lingers on – and on
Rojin thomas’s family drama is out on amazon prime video..
Rojin Thomas’s Home promises a heart-warming experience and achieves both a heart-warming and seat-warming experience. The Malayalam drama on Amazon Prime Video comes in at an extended two hours and 41 minutes, delivering feel-good vibes, observational comedy and homilies about life and family.
The storytelling is as unhurried and old-fashioned as the hero, a techno-illiterate man who has fallen behind in the age of the smartphone and social media. Oliver (Indrans) lives with his father (Kainakary Thankaraj), wife Kuttiyamma (Manju Pillai) and son Charles (Naslen) in Thiruvanthapuram. Oliver’s older son Anthony (Sreenath Bhasi) is a filmmaker struggling to complete his second movie.
Suffering from writer’s block, easily distracted by the pings and beeps emanating ever so often from his phone, and anxious about his impending marriage to girlfriend Priya (Deepa Thomas), Anthony fails to notice his father’s fumbling attempts to reach out to him. Anthony’s dismissive attitude towards the nondescript and frequently tongue-tied Oliver is in stark contrast with his admiration for Priya’s high-achieving father Joseph (Sreekanth Murali).
Wounded by his son’s open contempt and Charles’s occasional sneering, Oliver pours out his woes to his hypochondriac childhood friend Suryan (Johny Antony). Oliver’s attempts to master the mysteries of the smartphone lead to a series of misadventures that are embarrassing for Anthony but revelatory for Oliver.
Thomas’s screenplay plays out like a limited-episode series crunched into a movie. Home attempts to reach a meeting point between rootedness and individualism, personal contact and the new-fangled but distancing seductions of the smartphone.
Gentle comedy about human foibles is balanced with folksy wisdom about the importance of family ties. Oliver Twist’s journey of self-discovery and his own back story (including the one about his unusual name) prove that he is more hip than square, despite what his son thinks.
Thomas treats deep wounds with a bandage that has a smiley stuck on it. A less cheerful movie might have been more harsh on Anthony, who often comes off as being obnoxious to Oliver. Even Anthony’s girlfriend suffers the blast of his disdain – a situation that resolves itself without any damage to Anthony.
With compromise rather than confrontation in mind, Home focuses on creating relatable situations and amplifying the excellent chemistry between the ensemble set of actors. The movie’s hero is unmistakably Indrans, one of cinema’s finest chameleons.
Indrans’s superlative performance is both understated and attention-grabbing, minimalist in gesture and expression and maximalist in impact. The rest of the cast is on a roll too, helping Home reach its destination despite its numerous detours.

Home is a feel-good family film directed by Rojin Thomas. The film stars Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen and Manju Pillai in the lead roles.
Home unfolds the story of most of the present-day families. The film revolves around Oliver Twist (Indrans), who constantly tries to get close to his son Antony (Sreenath Bhasi), a filmmaker who has nomophobia. Despite this, Antony doesn't take his father's feelings seriously and taunts him for being technologically challenged. All this leads to a problematic situation in Antony's career, causing a trivial issue with his father. What happens next and how Antony realizes the worth of his father and family form the rest of the plot.
Home speaks the story of the majority of people and families in the world. It specifically points to how mobile and technology have taken over the boomers, leaving little to no time for their parents and family. The film throws light upon the importance of living your life free of technology and with people around you. It also highlights how mobile phones have unconsciously affected our lives in a drastic manner.
The film carries a very relevant subject and message. It is an eye-opener for the boomer generation on how ignorant they have been towards their technologically uneducated parents. The film strongly conveys the emotions of parents, for which the credit goes to its cast and their performance.
The film's cast includes Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen and Manju Pillai. Hats off to Indrans. He is the backbone of this film with truly remarkable performance. He strongly holds the credit for the emotional foundation the film is built on. Sreenath Bhasi is yet another strong part of the film. He has balanced the paradoxical emotional state that every youngster today goes through. Naslen has given his best performance till date. Manju Pillai was very convincing and befitting for the role of Kuttiyamma (Oliver's Wife). Performance-wise, the film stays solid and deserves accolades.
Neil D' Kunha's cinematography is another beautiful aspect of the film. The film journeys through many beautiful frames and colours. It carries the moments with its beautiful visuals and keeps up a pleasant mood throughout the film. Visually the film is wonderful.
Written and directed by Rojin Thomas, the film tries to lift a very beautiful and worthy message, which it did portray successfully, but not in the most effective manner. The film throughout was enjoyable, but the frequency of the writing was up and down. It has some witty, emotional, and lovely moments, but at the same time, the pace and the predictable writing take it down the steep.
Despite the minor flaws, the film is emotionally captivating with Indran's strong performance. A bit more betterment in direction and script could have carved an amazing feel-good drama.

Home is 2021 feel good, family entertainer by Rojin Thomas , starring Indrans , Sreenath Bhasi , Manju Pillai , Nalsen K. Gafoor , Vijay Babu, Srikanth Murali and others.
Like the name, the movie Home is about the life of a family. Oliver Twist (Indrans) lives with his wife Kuttiyamma (Manju Pillai), his two sons Antony (Sreenath Bhasi) and Charles (Nalsen) and his father (Kainakary Thankaraj). His elder son Antony has completed his debut film, which became very successful. But later on, he lost his focus and commitment and struggling to finish the script of his 2nd film planned with a big superstar. When the producer saw him struggling to write in his dirty room, he asked Antony to complete the script from his home, where he wrote his 1st movie. As seen in any other house nowadays, Antony and Charles are addicted to mobile phones and social media applications. Upon excitement, Oliver Twist also wishes to buy a smartphone and learn to use social media and other applications with the help of his sons. The rest of the movie shows how the mobile phone changes Oliver Twist and his family’s life and how they manage to retain happiness and unity in their family.
Indrans as Oliver Twist made everyone stun. Oliver Twist is a well deserved and career-best character for him. His body language and modulations made the character feel real. It is doubtful anyone in the industry can carry a character like him. The actual innocence and simplicity of Indrans are reflected in Oliver Twist as well. In a scene he hides emotion from his family by standing outside the house, it was a brilliant performance. That smile of Oliver Twist at the end make our heart fill with emotions. Manju Pillai as Kuttiyamma is another apt casting. She was exactly like a mother, who loves her family a lot and is strict at times. There’s a scene she says there’s not a good photo of her in their family album. It is actually a reality for many. Kuttiyamma is a different character in her career. Srinath Bhasi , as usual, was very natural. He was calm throughout. His dialogue delivery and acting were excellent. Nalsen is surprising with his all recent character. He has a bright future in the industry. Deepa Thomas and Johny Antony were fabulous. Rest all the cast did their part perfectly.
Home is a kind of rare movie that fills your heart with happiness and satisfaction. After a long time, Malayalam Cinema witness an entertaining, feel-good film. With a lot of emotions and fun, the movie Home keeps you entertained throughout. Even though the movie is lengthy, we never feel any lag or non-relatable scenes. All the departments did a good job. Especially the cinematography and background scores. Rojin Thomas ‘s writing and filmmaking deserve the whole praise for this fabulous heartwarming film. Home will always be one of the best feel-good movies in Malayalam.

•STORY IDEA:
#Home deals with the life and family of Oliver Twist (Indrans) who lives with his two sons, his wife, and with his grandfather. The elder son Antony Oliver (Sreenath Bhasi) is a young filmmaker who is busy with the writing of his second film and the younger son (Charles Oliver) is techy who needs his back papers to be cleared. Kuttiyama (Manju Pillai) is a loving wife and caring mother and Appachan (Kainakary Thankaraj) is a person who doesn’t talk much. Antony’s first film was a super hit so he faces much pressure to complete his second script. His producer Baby (Maniyanpilla Raju) forces him to complete it within a couple of days or else the project will be dropped. As Antony completed his first script from his home his producer advises him to return home to complete the script. He followed the idea and returns home but things get turned upside. His father Oliver was excited to see his son after a long time but Oliver is a technology-challenged person who is not good at using smartphones and social media. Oliver finds struggles to keep his wanting closeness with their sons and gets disappointed. Soon the home of Oliver comes with some unexpected happening followed by several events that unfold the rest of the story.
•ANALYSIS INTO DIRECTION, STORY, SCREENPLAY, AND DIALOGUES:
The film #Home is directed by Rojin Thomas who had previously directed the hit film Philips and the Monkey Pen. The story, screenplay, and dialogue are also written by Rojin Thomas. The film is produced by Vijay Babu under his production company of Friday Film House and the movie is currently streaming through Amazon Prime Videos.
Home is something that comes with many life and emotions, it’s a place that we can find ourselves, it’s like a place where we can find happiness and it’s a place where we are secured so for me my home is my heaven. Like I said #Home is a movie filled with joy, happiness, sentiments, and surprises which can give smile on everyone’s face. The story of this film is compressed with the events that can happen in any home, it’s linked with the current living scenarios. The story is great, it correctly got the components to connect with the mind of the audience also, the way the story unfolds with the various event leading to the climax was beautifully written. The detailing of the script and how every character was written out need to be specially mentioned because every character which appears in the film connects with us, how are their life, what are their emotions and how they are going through it and also the happiness which comes across them easily makes an adequate connection so while watching one can feel the presence of their home. The plot is served with several happenings, many events are leading the story and its connecting scenes are also in a huge a number so one needs to focus and also the film is having a duration of 161 minutes so to be hitched within the film the story and screenplay needs to be effective and fortunately the well productive writing and the balanced presentation of screenplay makes the script steady. Therefore one doesn’t need to be worried about the lengthy duration, the fine writing, and the competent making makes this film like a sweet home.
The direction from Rojin Thomas was outstanding, the way he made the movie is heart whelming. The making of Rojin Thomas was entirely passionate, he was having the right ideas on how to make this movie pleasing and while watching one get easily related to its premise. The fun-filled and feel-good moments he had brought out in the making and on the script were elegant because accurate attachment to relate the story and its characters were in the right manner. The way he took the movie step by step to express the emotions of the characters was refreshing and the pleasant feel which the movie passes through the making makes the film more compelling. Importantly the director had authentically used the talents of every actor, the guidelines he gave to the performers to present the acting as natural was evident. The surprising factor is that the director did the right justice to the script because the maker had cleverly understood the exact time and right moment on where to add the emotions and also when to attach the next associating scenes so no one can feel any kind of incompatibility, therefore the constant making will help to hook on within the film and its surroundings. Also like I said the feel-good components are surrounded by the story and making so none of these factors was overdramatic, everything was properly balanced on the right scale avoiding the cliches.
The writing of the screenplay was also excellent especially when it comes to portraying emotions. The entire screenplay is flowing with many feelings and emotions like parenthood, affection, care, respect, brotherhood, anger, sorrow, love, and selfishness so bringing out all of these emotions and blending with the characters was written out perfectly. These emotions were settling with the characters appropriately and a faithful job was done to mix them with various situations. In the second half, the script is having a subplot that carries a flashback and it was penned flawlessly also how this subplot connects to the present scenarios was written out genuinely resulting in a wonderful ending. The dialogues were also extremely powerful, particularly the dialogue of the sentimental scenes. Those words from the actor Indrans was having the power to melt the heart. Also, the motivating dialogues were not at all felt dramatic, some of the inspiring words were giving more beauty to the scenarios. So overall Rojin Thomas after his first film ‘The Philps and the Monkey Pen’ had once again bounce with an enjoyable entertainer that has a striking making and a gratifying story, offering a movie that has its moments of a sweet and loving home.
•PERFORMANCE OF ACTORS:
The film comprises the casting of Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi, Nalsen K. Gafoor, Manju Pillai, Kainakary Thankaraj, Deepa Thomas, Vijay Babu, Anoop Menon, Johny Antony, Priyanka Nair, Minon, Aju Varghese, Asha Aravind, Srikant Murali, Pauly Valsan and many more. Indrans as Oliver Twist did a spectacular performance, the movie is all about his shining performance. He was living as the character, the qualities and mannerisms he expressed for his father’s character was fascinating to watch. The affection and love of a father were amazingly seen in the acting of Indrans. His love towards his two sons, his concern about the family, and the innocence in his character were acted out brilliantly. His sentimental scenes were priceless, the sorrowful emotions which come to his face at the emotional scenes were charming to pass its feel. The dialogue delivery was authentic and the way he expresses was purely natural, therefore like said #Home is all about the incredible performance from Indrans. Sreenath Bhasi as Antony Oliver Twist did an impressive performance. His combination scene with Indrans was beautiful filling with love, anger, and affection. The amazing dialogue delivery by Sreenath Bhasi was having the perfect timing especially when it comes to the scenes having anger. Manju Pillai as Kuttiyamma who performed as the mother and wife were excellent. The scenes which she uses to express the love and concern of a caring mother were awesome to watch. Nalsen K. Gafoor as Charles Oliver Twist did a speculator performance. His situational humor and the way he presented it were entertaining. His character has the love and affection for his brother and family and Nalsen had given his best to make it more beautiful. Vijay Babu as the psychiatrist Dr. Franklin was good with the right qualities of a psychiatrist. His approach and the way he carried the character were adequate. Deepa Thomas as Priya did a noteworthy performance. As a lover the behavior she gave to the character was catchy. The supporting roles played by Srikant Murali and Johny Antony were wonderful. Johnny Antony as the friend of Indrans did a strong performance, his comedies were funny and the timing of dialogue was impressive. Priyanka Nair’s role and KPSC Lalitha’s role were unexpected and they delivered a good surprising performance. Pauly Valsan, Ashlin Jospeh, Asha Aravind, and Kiran Aravindakshan come with small roles and everyone was fine with their performance. Anoop Menon, Aju Varghese and Maniyanpilla Raju did complete justice to their respective cameo roles.
•MUSIC & TECHNICAL SIDE:
The cinematography is done by Neil D’Cuncha and the editing is made by Prejish Prakash whereas the musical composition of the film is tuned by Rahul Subrahmanian. The cinematography was rich in visuals, the shots and frames of a home were beautifully captured. The close-up shots to catch the emotions of the characters were giving more appealing. The incredible lighting techniques enforced in the indoor scenes and dark scenes were flawless. The editing by Prejish Prakash was not giving any kind of mismatching experience, the cuts were sharp and perfect and also some of the grading tunes were impressive. As the music director, Rahul Subramanian did a specular job. The songs were enjoyable to hear and the exceptional background score had given more impact. The song ‘Onnu Unarane Vanu’ was melodious with the right beats and had linked genuinely to set the flashback scenes. Another song called ‘Mukiluthodaanaayi’ was amusing to hear with its delightful tunes and lyrics. The background score was extraordinary, for building the feel-good emotions the background tunes had done a significant job. All the background tunes were perfectly sinking to bring out the precise emotions and feelings. Also, the background score had clearly helped to showcase the ongoing emotion of the characters which will help to realize their present feeling.
•CONCLUSION:
So overall #Home had given me a delightful heart whelming experience, the performance from actors and the well-written script and fantastic making make this movie charming like a sweet home. I strongly recommend this beautiful movie to watch with your family and with your loved ones, the character Oliver Twist played by Indrans will surely find a place in your hearts.
WORTH WATCH FAMILY ENTERTAINER.

Home Movie Review: A Feel-Good Film That Focuses On Characters Cinema Rarely Does, Indrans Wins Heart!
Rojin thomas, in his writing and direction, is headstrong about one thing, and that is not having a hero in his film..
Star Cast: Indrans, Sreenath Bhasi , Nalsen K. Gafoor, Manju Pillai, Deepa Thomas and ensemble.
Director: Rojin Thomas
What’s Good: Finally, a film acknowledging all the characters cinema has forever used as plot points, and making them the hero. The beauty is, there is no hero here, just Oliver Twist and his cuteness.
What’s Bad: The runtime as long as a period drama which leads to the film become preachy and dilutes the purpose.
Loo Break: Take time and watch this one. Have an empty bladder so you can enjoy the moments that are small but highly relatable.
Watch or Not?: It is a feel-good film, and one that has released after a very long time. I want you to watch and cherish your daily life on screen.
Language: Malayalam (Subtitles)
Available on: Amazon Prime Video
Children grow up but for their parents they are always the munchkins they one day brought home. Technically challenged Oliver Twist (Indrans) is father to two such boys who are now grown up and navigating their route in their respective lives but forget to acknowledge their father who is a silent giver, but never glorifies his victories. Get on board for this journey is heart breaks and Self-realisation; come out of it with a smile.
Home Movie Review: Script Analysis
The definition of family over the years has changed drastically. The dynamic that children and their parents share even more. Home, in its primary conflict, acknowledges this very argument and what it does to people who have a lot to learn about the modern world yet. Written by Rojin Thomas, the story is set in a house lavish enough to accommodate a joint family. The father is a silent doer. He almost does all the chores with his wife without complaining. Once when he does, he regrets it later.
So Rojin makes Oliver Twist, the father, aka Papa, the hero of his story. The perspective throughout is his and how he sees his ecosystem in a mansion unfold around him. Youngest son Charles (Nalsen), clever for his own good, is a lazy chap but still close to parents. Eldest Antony, a budding filmmaker is arrogant, and an outright toxic man, only spitting negativity because he has problems going on in his personal life. Of course, he has a soft corner too, but the arrogant side overpowers.
Now, Oliver, whom Antony sees like an average Joe good for nothing, has to become his son’s friend. He is also an old man wanting to learn the new technology, precisely smart phone. Home is a tale of a family we have seen or maybe one we are living in. The characters are people from around us, their problems and struggles are real, and so are their solutions. Thomas creates the main plot relatable to the tee and makes sure his audience connects to even the Fish Tank stand that breaks one day, signifying the chaos in the household and the pressure it has created. You will see.
Home at the core becomes a story of acceptance. Accepting your family with its simplicity, they need not be extra ordinary or superhumans to feel proud of them. Oliver Twist craves for his son to give him the same acknowledgement he provides to his overachiever father-in-law, but he never really gets angry at Antony for not giving it. Thomas definitely draws inspiration from people around him.
Rojin makes sure he doesn’t make Oliver a saint. In the beginning you see him being a rebel in front of his disabled father, and later when Sreenath’s Antony does it in full throttle, you observe genes have indeed passed from generation to generation.
But what pulls down the energy in this tale about love, longing, and acceptance is the writer deciding to branch out the story to the maximum. We are introduced to multiple conflicts that do have a stake in the summation, but not enough to invest our time into. For example, for a brief moment, Home acknowledges mental health, never to be spoken again. It talks about smartphone addiction, only to be used as a reason. It only becomes preachy and doesn’t add much.
Home Movie Review: Star Performance
Rojin Thomas wins a gold in casting. Every actor performing their parts to perfection and finesse. Indrans playing Oliver Twist is what experience does to a seasoned actor. Differentiating whether it is acting or documentation becomes difficult, and he wins heart with his smile. I was for real hurt when Antony burst out at him.
Sreenath Bhasi becomes the son parents don’t want theirs to become. He gets the tone right and becomes a layered character expected out of him. Nalsen K Gafoor gets to show his versatility in a week. A brainwashed teen in Kuruthi and a lively chap in Home, he has the charm.
Manju Pillai manages to win hearts even amid all these talented men. Her portrayal of the mother who is stuck between a family that is borderline crazy is worth watching.
Home Movie Review: Direction, Music
Rojin Thomas, in his writing and direction, is headstrong about one thing, and that is not having a hero in his film. It’s a family-like yours and mine, and this is the time camera zooms in into the ones it has neglected for years. He brings warmth in his direction, be it Indrans curiosity to learn smart phone, or him sad face that pierces out heart, he knows what draws audience.
Rahul Subrahmanian’s music serves the purpose and works well with the script, but I am not sure about the recall value.
Home Movie Review: The Last Word
It is a slice of life film for real. The family in Home is yours and mine. You will find characters that resemble people in your life. Watch Home and live the feel-good vibe for a few hours amid these testing times.

'Ruslaan' Review: Aayush Sharma shines in a wafer-thin script
'ruslaan' movie review: while the aayush sharma film had the potential to be an engaging drama like 'mission kashmir' or a cat-and-mouse chase like 'tiger' and 'pathaan', it missed the mark..
Listen to Story
- 'Ruslaan' projects Aayush Sharma as an action star, but lacks strong screenplay
- The film's plot about a police officer's son overcoming a tainted past lacks drama and emotions
- Aayush Sharma shows improvement since debut film but needs a better script
Cast & Crew
Aayush Sharma
Release Date: 26 Apr, 2024
The makers of 'Ruslaan' were on an assignment: to project Aayush Sharma as the next action star, and they did it well. Like most of the cinematic war heroes, he is impulsive and impatient, defies protocols, yet displays remarkable courage and love for his motherland. In his third film, the actor impresses audiences with his well-sculpted body, agility, and his alpha-man attitude. While the film hails him as the 'undefeatable hero', it fails in its screenplay.
A police officer adopts the son of a terrorist. He grows up aspiring to overcome his tainted past and serve the nation to prove his deshbhakti (patriotism). A story like this is a potboiler missing from the screens in recent times. If only the film had been made a couple of decades back, it would have left audiences whistling and cheering for the protagonist as he fought his tumultuous life.
Watch | Trailer of Aayush Sharma's Ruslaan
Aayush Sharma has certainly come a long way since his debut film, 'Loveyatri', but he still has room for improvement in emotional scenes. Despite his character's family being tragically wiped out, enduring bullying during childhood, and carrying the tag of a 'terrorist's son', 'Ruslaan' fails to evoke any sympathy from the audience.
Also, what's with the raised eyebrows every time you want to look intense? So not needed, young man! Aayush can dance well, fight like a champ, and looks presentable on screen too. All he needs now is a good script and a director to prove his mettle as an actor.
Newcomer Sushrii Mishraa has a delightful screen presence and can give competition to men when it comes to action. However, her character lacked depth. She didn't get an opportunity to exhibit her acting prowess. The makers also failed to give veteran actor Jagapathi Babu a role worth biting into, as he's reduced to being a sorrowful father and police officer. Even as the character's dynamics change, their impact remains minimal. Vidya Malvade, as a senior RAW officer, managed to make the most of her limited screen time in the film.
Apart from the turbulent storytelling, debutant director Karan Butani has done a fair job of helming a sleek and stylish film. He was also ably supported by his action director and cinematographer. At times, 'Ruslaan' even resembles a commercial for world tourism, seamlessly transporting viewers from one location to another. However, the music is forgettable, ironically, given that the lead character is portrayed as a gifted musician. There are also moments when one questions how Ruslaan, an untrained aspiring agent, can fight and kill like a professional. These small details are often overlooked by the makers, but they make a significant difference.
The angle of the 'good and bad Muslim' is subtly played with, and 'Ruslaan' once again portrays Pakistan and China as sworn enemies of India. The Kashmir issue is also hinted at as the antagonist laments over his family being killed by Indian soldiers. However, the desh-bhakti in the film is abundant, and the monologues don't sound jingoistic. But it's rather distasteful to see the half-hearted efforts of the makers when an actor from Bhutan is cast and is repeatedly addressed as ‘Chinese'.
Recalling the story of a Punjabi agent who masqueraded as a Pakistani officer for years before getting caught, Vidya Malvade's character says, "Ek accha agent banne ke liye ek accha actor banna bhi important hai" (to be a good agent, you have to be a good actor). This made us think that 'ek acchi film banane ke liye, apart from all the glam, ek accha screenplay sabse important hota hai' (To make a good film, you need a good screenplay too).
While 'Ruslaan' had the potential to be an engaging drama like 'Mission Kashmir' or a cat-and-mouse chase like 'Tiger' and 'Pathaan', it missed the mark. 3 out of 5 stars for 'Ruslaan' Published By: Arushi Jain Published On: Apr 26, 2024 ALSO READ | 'Ruslaan' actor Aayush Sharma says his kids 'imitate his action scenes at home'

Much of #Home is set in a multi-level house where the family lives. In recent Malayalam films, homes have been the site for deep dysfunction and death - think Joji, Kala, Kuruthi - but this film's default mode is a lingering sweetness, much of which comes from Indrans who plays Oliver Twist. His diminutive frame and unassuming manner speak volumes.

Rojin Thomas's #Home is a straightforward drama about the emotional distance between a father and his son. For the most part, #Home seems all too familiar, and it sometimes feels contrived.
