According to the exam pattern, the exam is conducted in four tiers, two tiers in computer-based test followed by the third which is a descriptive test, and the fourth which is skill test. SSC CGL Selection Process 2022:

Candidates will be recruited on the basis of the 4 stages of the exam

• Tier I Exam: It is an online exam for those whose application is received.
• SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam: Candidates who qualify in Tier 1 appear for the Tier 2 Computer Based Examination
• Tier-III: It is a Pen and Paper Mode (Descriptive paper) for those who clear Tier 2.

Exam Marking Scheme

• Tier-I:  There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III, and Paper-IV.
• Tier-II: There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III, and Paper-IV.

• DEST (Data Entry Speed Test):  For the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax), DEST Exam through SSC CGL 2022 exam is conducted to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.
• CPT (Computer Proficiency Test):  Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides are the three modules that are important for this exam and the commission demands a candidate to be proficient in it for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner).

• Synonyms and Antonyms – Synonyms mean the words which have the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or other words in a language. An Antonym is the opposite of another word. For example, the Antonym of the day is night.

• What is SSC CGL Syllabus 2024?

The SSC CGL Syllabus 2024 PDF  will be released by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) on their official website along with the official notification. SSC will also announce if there will be any changes in the SSC CGL syllabus and exam pattern. SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The General Intelligence section of the SSC CGL syllabus 2024 aims to test the logical thinking ability of the candidate. Both verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions are asked in this section. The questions are focused heavily on decision-making, analogies, series, and intelligence. The following are the important topics from this section:

In the SSC CGL Syllabus for the Tier 1 exam, the General Awareness section includes questions from current affairs, basic science, and general knowledge. Questions are generally centred on India's history and its neighbouring countries of the sub-continent. The topics included in this section are given below.

The questions in this section are designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. This section is common in both Tier-1 & Tier-2 with some repetitive topics, so prepare well to save time during your next stage for the same chapters. The topics for SSC CGL Quantitative Aptitude as set by the commission are given below.

In the SSC CGL Tier 1 English exam, Questions in this section will be designed to test the aspirant’s understanding and knowledge of the English Language. Candidates' basic comprehension and writing ability would also be tested so a good command over the following topics would help the candidates to score good marks in this section.

The Tier-2 exam is conducted through online mode after the preliminary exam is concluded. The Mains Exam will be conducted as an objective multiple-choice exam, except for Module II (Data Entry Speed Test) of Section III of Paper 1. The Mathematical Ability section tests candidates' number knowledge and sense. Questions are slightly easier than the Tier-1 Exam. The important topics to prepare for are listed below.

Listed below are the important topics asked in the Reasoning and General Intelligence of Session-I of Paper-I.

The fluency in the English Language will be tested based on this section of the SSC CGL Tier-II Syllabus. A basic knowledge of the English language in terms of the following topics is necessary to get good marks in this section of the Tier-II Exam. The syllabus for reading comprehension is not specific and is added in the syllabus to check candidates' quick responses to the situations.

For some candidates, the Statistics section of the SSC CGL syllabus 2024 might be tough & difficult to understand. The basic tip is to get the concept clear and repetitive revision of the concepts would be beneficial to grab good marks in this section too. The SSC CGL Tier-2 Syllabus for Statistics is described as follows-

This paper is conducted exclusively for the post of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO). A total of 200 questions are asked in the paper, out of which 120 questions are from Economics and 80 questions are from Finance.

The SSC CGL syllabus 2024 for Tier III consists of a descriptive Paper that includes Letter Writing and Application Writing. Letter writing includes both formal letters (letter to the editor, letter to the municipality, etc) and informal letters (letter to a friend, etc). The paper is in English/ Hindi language and will constitute 100 marks. Candidates have to complete the entire paper in 60 minutes.  It should also be noted that the minimum qualifying marks for this Tier III paper are 33%.

The SSC CGL exam is administered by the Staff Selection Commission in order to select applicants for desk jobs in the central government departments and ministries. The same subjects covered in last year's syllabus will be covered in SSC CGL 2023. The candidates who are chosen for CGL positions must perform computer entries. The Commission is using the CPT and DEST to assess proficiency in computer operations. The candidates can see the syllabus for Computer-Proficiency Test and Date Entry Speed Test as below:

SSC CGL CPT Syllabus

In the SSC CGL Tier 2, the Commission substituted the Computer Knowledge Test (CKT) for a different CPT. The official notification states that the Computer Knowledge Test (CKT) is necessary yet qualifying in nature. The candidates must pass the CKT; otherwise, their scores will not be taken into account for the final merit list. The Computer Knowledge Test will be conducted to test the computer proficiency of the candidates. The Commission also mentioned that for the following SSC CGL posts, the Commission will set higher qualifying standards for the candidates:

• Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA & AFHQ
• Assistant in Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs
• Assistant (GSI) in the Ministry of Mines
• Assistant in Indian Meteorological Department (Ministry of Earth Sciences)
• Inspector (CGST &Central Excise)
• Inspector (Preventive officer) & Inspector (Examiner) in CBIC and Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant in the Department of Post

SSC CGL Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) Syllabus

The purpose of the DEST is for the Commission to evaluate candidates' accuracy and speed when entering data into a computer. The DEST lasts for a mere fifteen minutes. For the course of fifteen (15) minutes, a "Data Entry Speed Test" (DEST) skill test involving the passing of roughly two thousand (2,000) key depressions will be done. The Commission mentioned that there will be two categories of mistakes in the SSC CGL DEST. These are 

• Full Mistake
• Half Mistake

The Commission has mentioned the following rules for consideration of full and half mistakes:

SSC CGL DEST Full Mistake Criteria

The Commission will consider full mistake on the Data Entry Speed Test" (DEST) in case of the following:

• For every omission of a word/figure.
• For repetition of word/figure, e.g. ‘I will will be honored ..........’
• For every addition of a word/figure not found in the passage.
• For Incomplete words (half-typed words will be treated as mistake).
• For every spelling error committed by way of repetition, addition, omission, or substitution of a letter/letters, e.g. if the word ‘spelling’ is typed as seeplings; seplling; speling; seepling; etc.
• For every substitution of a wrong word/figure, except transposition of words.

SSC CGL DEST Half Mistake Criteria

The Commission will consider the following as a half-mistake on the Data Entry Speed Test" (DEST):

• Spacing Errors: Where no space is provided between two words, e.g. ‘Iwill’, or undesired space is provided between the words or letters of a word e.g.‘I w ill’ (space left between a word).
• Wrong Capitalisation: Wrong typing of a capital letter for a small letter or vice-versa.
• Punctuation Errors: Where the punctuation mark is omitted, added, or substituted by another.
• Transposition Errors: Where words are transposed, e.g. the words ‘I will’ are typed as ‘will I’.
• Paragraphic Errors: Each irrational paragraph that begins with a space that is not uniform—that is, a paragraph that begins with manual spaces—will be regarded as a half-mistake if the Tab Key is not pressed.

• Mandatory Tier-I Examination: Tier-I examination is compulsory for all positions listed in the SSC CGL notification, requiring candidates to concurrently prepare for both Tier 1 and Tier 2 exams.

• Paper II is designated for candidates applying for Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) positions in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Negative Marking:

• In Tier-I, an incorrect answer results in a deduction of 0.5 marks.

Yes there is a provision for negative marking in SSC CGL 2024 exam. For Tier 1 and Tier 2 (Paper 1, 3, and 4), every incorrect response will result in a deduction of 0.50 marks. SSC CGL 2024 Tier 3 is an exam that is conducted in pen and paper mode. It is a descriptive exam that will contain essays, letter writing, application and precis questions. According to the exam pattern for the SSC CGL 2024 exam, the number of tiers in the exam will be 2. The number of tiers has been reduced from 4 to 2 in 2022. The SSC CGL 2024 exam will be conducted online as a Computer-Based Test (CBT) in both tiers at the designated exam centres. A total of 100 questions will be asked in the Tier 1 exam with the total marks being 200. The number of questions asked in Tier 2 are as follows:

• Paper I: 150 Questions
• Paper II: 100 Questions
• Paper III: 100 Questions

Thus, the total marks of Tier 2 will be:

• Paper I: 450 Marks
• Paper II: 200 Marks
• Paper III: 200 Marks

The candidates who are willing to take up the SSC CGL exam undergo two stages of the selection process ie tier 1 and tier 2. Tier 1 and 2 are objective types of questions.  

Tier 1 Examination:

• Tier-I will consist of  Objective Type, Multiple choice  questions.
• The questions will be set both in  English  &  Hindi  except for English Comprehension.
• There will be a negative marking of  0.50  for each wrong answer.

Tier 2 examination:

• As per the SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2023, SSC CGL Tier-II Exam Pattern 2023 will include conducting Paper-I, Paper-II,  and  Paper-III  in separate shift(s)/ day(s).
• Paper-I  is  compulsory  for all the posts.
• Paper-II  will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of  Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)  in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for these Posts.
