Lahore has a population of about 19,418,854. It is the capital of the province of Punjab, in Pakistan. Lahore is located along the bank of river Ravi. It is centrally situated and is generally known as “The Heart of Pakistan”. Lahore is the heart of Pakistan, the historical city of Punjab and the second biggest city in Pakistan. It is truly in many ways a rare city. Lahore implies in different ways for different persons, it is the city of gardens, colleges, historical structures, Landmarks and the capital city of Punjab. Lahore enjoys the great geographical position bounded by the northern gulf of the Sheikhupura Area, around the far-east towards Wagah, along with the Kasur Area towards the south. The famous River Ravi flows around the north area of Lahore. Lahore city has a territory area of 404 km² and is expanding rapidly. The city of Lahore located around the River Ravi positioned about 20 km’s from the Wagah boundary and is fifty-five-kilo meters from the Indian city Amritsar.

Lahore is the core of education and training. It is the city where Punjab University and government College University located. The city had been made similar to the shape of a parallelogram and the area within the walls of a city (central Lahore or Older Lahore) is about 461-kilo meters. The position of the central Lahore is 31’-34′ Northern latitude and within 74’ — 20′ East longitude.

Lahore has a rich cultural heritage which it got from several civilizations. This city was successively supported as a regional capital for the empire of Shahi kingdoms in the 11th century, the Ghaznavids in the time of 12th Century, Mughal Empire within the sixteenth Century, the actual Sikh extension within the early nineteenth Century, also it has been the administrative center of the Punjab under the British Raj in the middle of the nineteenth Century and early twentieth Century. Lahore remained the traditional capital of Punjab for centuries.

Lahore had reached his glorious heights in the era of Mughal rulers. Under the rule of Mughals, this city had received the lovely fortification, beautiful buildings, gardens, tombs, mosques, and pavilions. There are several old titles documented for this beautiful city. These titles are Lahanoor, Mahmood pur, Loh pur, Lohar pur.

Lahore city is the capital of the province of Punjab, in Pakistan. It is centrally situated and is generally known as “The Heart of Pakistan”, the city is located on the banks of river Ravi. It is also known as the “Green City” and is home to many gardens and fertile alluvial plains. The city is famous for its poets, artists and the core of the film industry.

The eccentric city dates back to 850 A.D., it was taken over by Mahmood Ghaznavi in 1021 A.D. and made the capital of the entire Ghaznavid Empire by Masud, the son of Mahmood. This was the point in history where Lahore became the heart of the social, cultural and educational events and these activities made the city reach the peak of its magnificence under the rule of the Mughal Empire. It was under the Mughals that the city got its beautiful fort, infamous architecture, gardens, tombs, mosques and pavilions. There are many ancient names recorded in history for Lahore which include Lahanoor, Mahmood pur, Loh pur, Lohar pur and Samnadpal Nagiri.

The population of this city with a colorful history is around 6.5 million and it is the second largest city of Pakistan. The city has been constructed in the formation of a parallelogram and the area within the walls of the city (central Lahore or Old Lahore) is about 461 acres. The exact location of the district is 31-34′ North latitude and 74 – 20′ East longitude. Regarding the weather in the city, there are two main seasons namely winter and summer. The monsoon season is at its peak during July and August, and the rain during these two months accounts for more than half the rain in the city. The driest months of the year in this city are October and November and the winter seasons in which the winter rains occur are from December to February. Hence there is plenty rainfall which makes the city’s gardens look even more beautiful than they already are.

One of the most famous architectures of the city is known as the Lahore Fort which was built during Mughal Rule by Akbar the Great. This king also constructed the city walls which had 12 gates, some of these gates exist even today. Jahangir the son of Akbar, and Shah Jehan the son of Jahangir have been the builders of Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, they also have constructed many tombs and places. Another great Mughal Ruler known as Aurangzeb has also constructed another famous architecture in Lahore known as the Badshahi Mosque. These constructions are not only divine and beautiful but also great tourist attractions for the city. In the times of the Mughal era the river Ravi which now is miles away from the city used to clash with the ramparts of the fort and the mosque. When the British came they nicely combined the Mughal, Gothic, Victorian styles of architecture in the city. The architecture, beautiful history and the mixed culture of the city makes it a dynamic and vibrant city, one not to miss a visit to if given the chance.

I somehow managed to go there alone to be able to experience each and everything on my own. I realized after my visit that why people are in so much love with this city.

People & Culture

Lahore has a very rich cultural heritage which has kept it as the traditional capital of Punjab for so many centuries. Also, the people live there are so full of life and cheerful. I found most of them very straight-forward and funny.

I also knew about a lot of misperceptions people have about “Lahoris”. But after I paid a visit to Lahore and met a lot of people there, I came to know that it was actually the opposite. The people in Lahore don’t poke their noses into each others’ businesses and everyone has the right to live the way they want to.

Education and Training

Moreover, Lahore is considered to be a core of education and training. People from other cities come here to get higher studies from its prestigious colleges and universities. You would see the huge diversity in its population of 10 million. I also got to see and meet people from every religion, race, and walk of life.

Anarkali Bazaar

There are many places in Lahore which are worth visiting. I went to Anarkali bazaar which is the busiest part of Lahore. Although its streets were narrow and crowded, it is still one of the best experiences I had in my life. I bought a lot of dresses, shoes, and bags from there which are rarely found anywhere else.

Food Street

Food street of Lahore is another charming place to which I paid a visit. There is such a huge diversity in traditional and fast food dishes that I bet everyone can find his favorite food here. I tried a lot of dishes which were so mouth-watering that I still remember them.

Minar-e-Pakistan

Minar-e-Pakistan is situated in old Lahore which is a symbol of independence of Muslim. You can see the view of entire Lahore from the top of Minar-e-Pakistan. I also went to the top and the view was really breathtaking. I made a lot of photos as well to be able to recall my beautiful memories.

Masjid Wazir Khan

It is a 17th-century mosque which is located in the city of Lahore. It is a historical place which was commissioned during the ruling period of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. The architecture is so beautiful that it is really difficult to take eyes off it. I spend a lot of hours there praying and observing people around me.

There are other special places in Lahore as well like Lahore fort, Sunehri Masjid, Iqbal Park, Shalamar Garden, and so many more. People from all over the world come to visit these beautiful places of Lahore. I would also suggest you go and witness the beauty of Lahore yourself.
