Max planck luxembourg phd scholarships 2024.
The promotion of research and academic exchange with foreign scholars is a central goal pursued by the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law. As such, in order to assist young scholars further advance their research activity, the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg offers a limited number of scholarships for foreign doctoral candidates. These scholarships facilitate research stays at the Institute for one to six months during the 2024 calendar year.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be doctoral candidates working within the Institute’s various areas of research. They must intend to be affiliated with the Department of International Law and Dispute Resolution, or the Max Planck Fellowship Research Group, which focuses on the enforcement of European Financial Market Regulation or the Max Planck Law Research Group, which focuses on Memories of Mass Atrocities. While proficiency in English is compulsory, the call is open to doctoral candidates writing their thesis in languages other than English.
Application
To apply, interested candidates meeting the requirements of the call must submit the following documents, in English:
- a cover letter (max. 1 page), stating the motivation for their application, the correlation between the topic of their research and the Institute’s areas of research, the name of their PhD supervisor, the expected date of defence, and the desired time frame for the scholarship stay;
- an up-to-date curriculum vitae, with an indication of the class of degree awarded (undergraduate and postgraduate, if relevant) and the number of publications;
- a summary of the PhD project (max. 2 pages), including subject, description and work plan;
- two letters of recommendation (including one from the PhD supervisor, with his/her contact details).
Grant and benefits
The scholarship is paid in monthly instalments of 1.500 €. The selected applicants will be offered a workstation in the Institute’s reading room. They will have the opportunity to participate in the regular scientific events hosted at the Institute and will enjoy access to the Institute’s library.
During the funding period, the presence of the Scholarship Holder at the Institute is compulsory.
Deadline for applications
The deadline for applications is 15 July 2023 . Early applications are highly encouraged, as the application will be processed on a rolling basis.

Fully-funded PhD Program at University of Luxembourg
Fully-funded PhD Program at the University of Luxembourg. The University of Luxembourg invites applications to apply for Doctoral researchers (Ph.D. students) in economics or management of innovation. This is 14 months initial fixed-term contract, extendable up to 48 months maximum (depending on thesis progress evaluation) The incumbent will serve as a full-time position (40 h/week).
Responsibilities
The incumbent will do the following duties
- Work within the Research Unit of CREA, the Centre for Research in Economics and Management. In addition to that, may also contribute to research projects in the area of economics or management of innovation.
- Prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of economics or management of innovation, under the supervision of
- Professor Katrin Hussinger. However, the thesis work will be undertaken at the University of Luxembourg but can also be part of a jointly-supervised with another university.
- Furthermore, s/he will contribute to the teaching of classes ranging from one to three hours per week, of small group teachings and tutorials.
Requirements
Candidates must have the following qualifications in order to be eligible for this fully-funded PhD Program at University of Luxembourg
- Research master or a master in economics, management science, economics. In addition to that, s/he should have a good econometrics background.
- Knowledge of handling datasets (firm-level, patent level data) and also fluency in English.
Compensation
This a fully-funded position. In addition to that, position will have regular personal exchanges with the supervisor and the members of the thesis committee, and a high-quality research environment in the Doctoral School of Economics, Finance and Management Science.
